I'm Robberie Samage and tonight we have got Conicoy alongside me. who's actually been to a World Cup and he was ten times the number of caps as Chris Sutton. Last night England played their first game on American soil against New Zealandross. He nine for his country that gives England a lead just before the break So Connor for the warm upp game, it was pretty hard. what I think I turned over at Wednesday is Con C England win the World Cup. For me, they've got a really good chance. I'm going to be completely honest, Robt all about this debate, but I think they've got a really good chance and I'm not one of these people who are negative on England already, so I hope you do England fans number to call isz eight to a five nine hundredzo nine six nine three yesterday C to Scotland were a lot more entertaining than England when they play Bolivia in Cleveland. She Aams to the left hand side. Chest takes a heavy touch, might still get a shot of you want to go. just on the stroke of the forty five minute mark, it is Bolivian Hill, Scotland Port Sot is this finally the Scotland get out of the World Cup group and into the knockout for the first time in their group Haiti, Morocco and Brazil. I think they put themselves in a really good position, Rob. I'm going to be honest, but it's going to be tough, really tough for me when I look at Scotland's group but they've started well, obviously in these games that we're seeing and a real good opportunity for them, I think Scotland fans, can you reach the knockouts callers on zero eight zero eight five nine zero nine six nine three and also we want a call tonight from someone who's actually going out to the World Cup. Where are you going? Have you got your tickets and ves sorted out yet. We're here until eight o'clock you can b your call right now on zero two eight five nine oero nine six nine three. So just before we got the calls England. to win Good chance How a good j How he not be not. Well tell me why tellell me why they going to win it? Because they've got a really good team. How are they going to be France for Portugal? Costyan Costy How are they going to be France? Of course they can.ve got they've got a world class team for me. Team. Yes. world class team? A cl A world class manager. Well cllass manager. they've got a real good opportunity. Do you know what, Rob? I listen to you a lot on this program a lot And I've listened to you in the car and it's a lot of waffling and now I'm here with you. So let's enjoy ourselves. So England can win the World Cup England could to win the World Cup says C. I' always going five nine nine six, nine three. Rob, how are you from Lestter How you Robert? England going to win World Cu I think they've got every chance that I think is going to be difficult. It's It's a long tournament, we've got the weather weather to contend to I think and substitutes are going to be really important important in the tournament because Do we have the sub substites good enough to replace the ones on the pitch? and is Hurricane going to be able to play everyute minute every game. because I don't think we've got another goal scorer in the team I've tot scored a lot ofals,'t Olly Watkon score a lot of goals for me. So Avvent Tony's notinning the Wor Cup. I'm not saying Aventony's going to win the Wor Cup. what I'm saying is we just have not got a lot of goals in team. of course' a lot of goals in team an awful lot of goals in team. So no matter where they're playing, they've still scored goals So for me, I completely agree by the way, in terms of the heat and in terms of all the things that come with what this tournament is going to bring. But at the same time, I can comp I'm not on board with was all looking at who's not going now and what players aren't going to be there. I'm on board with what and I think that's a really good squad. And I know you got your well shot on. I really know that. No listen Of course, I got my Welsh hat on, but I'm looking at it And Rob Listen, the substitution is a key. First and foremost, I'll ask you this and Connor. who's Bellingham, Roders and Bellingham every day of the week Yeah, no, I. E It's aough question that for me Rob. Real tough question. I think Roger is brilliant but I think' I think I'm with Rob. I think I go with Bellingham just because of Wow fact I enjoyed him. yesday, by the way. I enjoyed yester when he played second half. Yeah and I really enjoyed a little bit of responsibility for I say a little bit, a lot of responsibility for him. but I think I agree with Rob. I think I'll go with you just over him just because of . Connor says a world class team, Rob, is it a world class back for Well class back back four we've got some good players and again W class what was Connor said No, no not work And again, I think And again, I think like the substitutees replacements would also be a challenge in right defence as well for England You don't want to say? theain reason I called. Yeah yeah. The main reason I called actually would just say that I'm quite sort jealous of the England fans who are going out to the World Cup because I was one of the fortunate English fans whoort have booked up and went to the US in ' ninety four and when of course and England didn't get there. so I hope the fans have a better experience than maybe what I had in Hurica in ninety four Okay. Well did get to see some fantastic games. I saw like Brazil play in San Francisco, which was One of my best in footballing experiences until Lester went won the Premier League. Rob, brilliant. thank you. You've done well tonight, speaking to one Lester Legend. Let's go to Rob's in Coldest, how are you, Rob Good evening. I'm fine Robie. Hello, Connor. Hello Mate. At the risk us Hello att the risk of sound already miserable. notot in those heats I just think it's asking too much of France, Germany and England and we've got a really good manager. I think we've got a really good team. The world class thing, I don't think that matters. I think if you bring the right group of people together you know, you look at Grece, you look at other teams that do not have world class clers, you can do well. But that heap will just drain us game after game and I just can't see it. I know what you I know kind of thinks you've got a world class chance and the can'er winning it. Robby, I'm not so sure you do. What are your thoughts Yeah, I think for me, Rob, listen, I think what you' saying about the heat and the factors that come with being in America, I think is right. I think it's really true. I think What you're probably seeing with the England team now in terms of what we' seeen last night in the game and probably what they're doing in training trying to accimatize that heat as much as possible as quick as possible. But in terms of team coming together and picking a team. I think we've heard Thomas Tukel say over previous weeks about how much he's picked a team and I think we can see that with the squad is picked and the plays is left out now. we can go into it again. I'm sure people will do over a summit if it doesn't go right in terms of what plers could have gone. But at the same time, I'd rather focus on the team he's picked and I you understand the plays he's picked for that but I completely agree. I completelyree in terms of the factors, but I'm hopingngland overcome that on one of the p. Whats thinking as a deffender a right footer as a left backike I think only Thomas Tucher will know what he's thinking, if I'm being honest at Does it give you bance? No, because you' a right force on that side? Do you want balance yet? then you look somebody like Luke S sure, who's had a great season. couldould he you have gone? off course, he could off. But Thomas Tule's obviously seen something from the group of players. play Nico R there. Of course you can. And then he you'll come inside So another thing with this squad of playays is that you can play in different ways as well S you can play with John Stones going toentiment if's going to play fullbacks going into centiment. can play with Nicke' Rileilly starting in centiment and playing a right footed left back and Jed Spence, whatever that may be. So I can understand where he's done, but it's obvious to everybody what we're seeing. He's picked a team rather than individuals. And I think that's the biggest thing with his squad. and can they overcome the heat and can they overcome the factors and maybe a stoppage for a storm for example, all these bits that are going to come can they overcome it? We've got a whael class manager and I know we're have a little bit of laugh about whale class, but nobody can say he's not a whel class manager which I believe he is. Stehven I mean, can I just say can I just say I don't think I don't think you start Bellingham. I think you start Rogers because I don't think Bellingham is a team player. And that's the thing about too that he's not scared to leave world class players out, which is something we've never done in the past. We tri to f too many world class players in And it just doesn't work. You need a team. I might be wrong, Let's wait and see. and I hope I'm wrong about the hate because obviously Thank you so much for the call zero eight zero eight five nine zero nine six nine three is the number to call. Stephven. how are you Hello, good evening. I'm fine. Thank you very much. I was contacted because slightly a different angle on what you're discussing. I was um Press seecretary of Weembley foootball Club. in nineteen sixty six when The England, when we won the World Cup, trained there So I had to pl the fantastic experience and memory and I have photographs and autographs of the England team training at Wendley foootball Club Fale Farm Wow. That was a wonderful experience. Yeah. Weembley football cllub, that are they still in existence at any level? They are. They' in theb Combined countter is division one. Wow. I think that's I think that's number five or six. here I. But Amazing. So on England this time then do you think You know, this England team can replicate sixty six I'm not terribly optimistic. C has very confidence Yeah, I'm I wish I could be, but I'm a bit disappointed that But Trent isn't in the squad. I think he's such a brilliant parser of the ball and player Let's look past that though, Stehvent make it Let's look past the players who aren't there. Trent's a wonderful player. I completely agree with you. but he's not there. So let's focus on who is because Reach James a wonderful pass of the board as well. if I'm being completely honest down. Do you know what you said there about? you're not optimistic. Are you not optimistic because England haven't won something for so long or youre not optimistic because you're not happy with a squad? I'm more optimistm sorry, the reason I'm saying it is because I'm because of the strength of countries like France an Argentina U I just think in Spain, I just think that they're better teams I hope to be wrong. Don't get me wrong. I'll be cheering on England and getting up at whatever h the matches are on I just I just think the competition will be too strong.re they going into the world C be good form as what's the last couple results? What is Japan is it one now Honestly, Rob. has facts. of course I was asking. No, of course. the got beat to Japan, of course. And it was that It wasn't was wein, but it wasn't a nice game yesday, of course it wasn't, but let's not judge them on. Let's judge them where they're at now and where they're going to be. And for me, every other nation in the Wale Cup For example, a big part of why I feel how I feel about Rob is because of the season Harry Kans up That's a big part of it and any other nation in that tourament takes Hurricane Yeah ye. because we've got we've got the best staker in the world at this moment in time and that shoes way Well, instead of Haand for me. Yeahah nineteen After this season Norway right Let's say what after the season It season with by M. So Norway would swap Harleand forade P probably wouldn't because it's Norway and's Nor reggion. And it' Nor reggion. But for me I would I would have Harryane over at Illand Hound at this point. No we wouldn't. You stay any other nation, but no we wouldn't. He scored over sixty goals. But you did' No we scored all sixty goals. That's it. That's. I't leave it there. But you said An of the nation would take it. No way they wouldn't. No, I think they would I think they would. No, we would take Hicado Hallard Not one hundred percent. But what I'm saying is, yes, they would I think any other nation takes T Hicane Stehven. Yeah, that's I think that's true. His record is outstanding standing. Thank you Stepeven. Thank you. Stepven, than you so much for call anyy Norwegian fans out there. Oh eight two eight five ninezero nine six nine three. You're not ten Harry Kan had an unbelievable season. I think he's the best in the world Best in the world, yes, right now Yes. So Norway, take him. No, no, it don't take Of course if he's the best donon't take care over Holland. If dont if he's the best in the world now, you take him. So so you're not manager of Fororest Green now, you're manager of Norway. who's the best strikke in the world right now I would I would st Harland's mighty. No no, answer the question. Who's the best in the will right now, Rob Crect. Yeah. So you're taking him. Of course you are. I'm not taking over Harlland, Robert, you take every other nation, I'm taking Hurricane, but not Norway. G Ireland Ando' is the best, who' sc got the most go in Pmer League the best league the world Now this season Yeah He's not in the Pier League H he? No, I'll ask you a question. No, no, whoo scored the most out of both of them? I'm asking over sixty goals? Wh' scored the best go in Pier League this season?as it Hllland? Thank you very. the hardest leaking. Josh, how are you, Josh All right, Robbie, right Connor. Hello, Mate ion. aick quick question for Connor here. How do you approach a worldorld Cup Conor player is going to be there primarily sort of like in and around the place. We're not playing much football necessarily. For me, it's a squad game for a reason it's a very long tournament. Look at the versatility value. of certain players in that squad as well, Connor. And then like relating it to Mus field of women's football with the lion Ses Serena were able to substitute finishers and she had clear roles for every single squad member So whetever you were starting coming off the bench being being sort of in and around the place with of character and the jorkey value and and you know, what The address in room quality is Connor. from just from your own perspective of a glass tourament, you give us a bit of insight into that, please? Mate It's a great question, Josh. It really is, Mate. Do you know what? I'm so happy you've asked it because I think we've mentioned a lot about the squad that's picked and the people he's picked within this squad and the people he's left out. and I think we talk about it too much as a nation of people who've been left out. We can look at this squad and look at why he's took each individual player for me. And I've got firsth experience of going to a competition. I've had stick over it in the past about going and not playing and going I went with a clear roll. I really did and went Make sure I was driving and pushing and people might make fun of me and people might be say things. I'm not saying that to Cry in a little bit. I'm saying it in terms of I was the proudest man in the world, going to the World Cup knowing what my role was, knowing that I was going to drive and pushion and really push everybody in train every day to make sure I was ready if I was needed. that was one, but also to make sure it gave us best possible chance and I could give myself in every way to what the country needed at that moment in time. Now preparing for it is a little bit different for this one because obviously they've had a few weeks now since the end of the season. So we're now seeing what warm up games. I went to one in Qatar And the one in Qatar obviously went straight from the Premer League season straight into a World Cup. So we had no games we just went straight into it. So it was a different preparation. but for me, it made me the proudest man in the world and I think we can see from the squad he iss picked. And so for example, we talk to someone Harry McGu, I love to bit, by the way I'm really good friends with him and he's a brilliant brilliant player. was going off Thomas Tle's comments in the last camp in March Was Harry McGuire going to go and play. Now Harry McGuire would go and expect to play. Now how is Harry McGuire then if he gets left out of the team, if he doesn't play for a competition? Whereas somebody like Dan Bh, for example, who's gone in probably the role I just didn't hoent in twenty you is play the tournament for the rooy you play Yeah, yeah, he did. And again, it's something that people have brought up to me before all about. how can he say that he didn't play? But there's a role for everybody. you've got to go and give the best your self every day. You've got to go and push to try and give the nation what they want and what we've craveved for so long, which is a trophy. Now we didn't manage to do that. I'm just hoping this group of players can do that. But it may me the proudest man in the world going to do what I done and there's players in this group will have to do that unless England go and fly through the group and they win the first two and they won by a load of golden and then they might kill a game in the third one There are going to be players in this group who need to take on that role and responsibility and And it's a big role and responsibility and I'll always say that. Josh, I'm glad you' asked that question because you couldn't have asked if Chris was on, couldould you Chris, you know when Connor said he's went there to drive the school Chris would only go to drive the bus There's a very important that. But Connor, you know, from from your leadership qualities as well, obviously Ctain Dolves in you and you were down at my team Eon in the midst of a relegation battle and you know, show different sides to your personality through able for those sides probably. L you know, the whole team that you were part of was kind of growing up the table. It was you work in progress you know, the style of football and all the rest of it. So You know, Same for the international scene, isn't it? You know, players are used to play in one style But then you've got to bring that all together in the international scene. And this is where for me, the international managers don't get as much credit as they perhaps deserve because You, the taking players you play on ball taking players to play toktaka high press all the rest of it. and we have to find that sort of mold that shoots the whole group, D't thec Conor showholders You from your own experience working with Gareth, how did he go about that I think together. Yeah, think I think with Garth Mates. I think with Garareiff, he was somebody who was more of a manager. He obviously let Steve Holland, as you mentioned before, Sv about. He let Steve Holland do a lot of the coaching. he took a lot of it. Gareth would do a lot of the meetings and Gariff as a man manager was unbelievable. The environment he created within the squad. The fact that and this might sound stuid, people people will say, of course you want to go and play for England, believe me before me P playlays didn't want to go and play for England. We've heard the stories before. So the environment he created was unbelievable. But I think your point there about trying to bring in loads of plers from loads of different styles. I think that's a big part of why Thomas Tug' has been given this world Thomas T has been given this job to go and win the World Cup or to win the next competition. That's what he's been given this job for in my eyes and it's up to him now to develop that style of play to make sure all these players play a certain way. I thinkc's a big squad.' h It's an athletic squad. We seen it yesday when the lads were walking out further for the national anthems. They're absolutely huge in every aspect now. He wants to be aggressive and he wants to go and I think the second half team was more aggressive than the first half team. I think he said it in his interview after the game I don't think he was too happy with the first to have one. And we mentioned before about an actual team now We look at somebody like Ky Gordon, who's super aggressive, probably one of the most aggressive players in the team, but everybody loves Marcus Rash for e quality. So how then do you go for that sort of thing. But I think this is why he's been given given the job, Josh in terms of bringing this squad together and going winning the World Cup for me. Josh would you have would you have if you were Norway, would you take K over Holland? if you were Norway Well, to be honest, Sobbie, I'd love to be in that in But if you were just if you're in Norway manager right now and somebody said, Ill tell you what In the World Cup, you're in your trading camp. Irlland, come over here we're going to swap you for Ary Kane. Do you think there all way manager would do that I think the Norway manager had stick to his gun stick with Haul and R beat was used Can I just ask you sorry, Josh, Can I just dash you c on Rob? Can I just dash you c on? wouldould you bring Harlland in over Kayain W you if you was England manager, you'd have Hlland over Cane? No, I'd have Cane for England But you said your words, not mine. you said everyvery the nation would have came. but he said, Yeah know they would for me. Well, o. Josh, thank you so much for the call eight to eight five nine nine six. Now I tell you what, you're going to be a fantastic managage, I can tell We're doing our a license together. Yeah ye. yeah, you can see your detail, you can see the way you speak about it You'll make a great manager. I appreciate that Roby. And we spent bit of time together,? Itich would be good.'s something you want to go into eventually. Yeah, I'd love to. I'd love to and it's important to keeping, atet? We have a good chance, both. You'll do really well, I can sense it. Oh eight eight five nine hundred nine six nine three is a number to call right there in England had their warm up game against New Zealand in a one wh One they'll win and after the game manager Thomas Tule spoke to Gary Flinton. Thomas, first of all, what did you like today from your men in searing temperatures? I lik the second half more than the first half. I think we had a little bit more bite in our game and were more attacking on and off the ball and invested a little bit more. first half, we just lacked discipline in our positions and slowed our game down and we took shots and crosses from positions where we normally don't shoot and cross But okay, listen and to put it in context, there is some like a lot of players were with us last time in November. They missed March camp. so it's half a year that they didn't play for us. We have four training sessions together. Then it's a first match in the heat and the first match on a very difficult on a very difficult surface that didn't help us as a dominating team. So overall we won, we have a clean sheet and a lot of stuff to get better at, which it's a good moment because we have still one more match. we will get better with the opponents getting better with the stress coming It brings the best out of us. In terms of your sort of two starting eles here today, did you sort of mix and match it as much as anything to get your players thinking about how things might work? It was quite a mix now, and I think that is also part of the reason why things were not so fluid and not so automatic. We just wanted to give everyone the forty five minutes and not For no one read too much into it. So like I said, some of them played last time together in November and today there was two very different different teams on the pitch. They never played together in these formations. So everything fine. I knew that it can look like this. It felt almost like it feels at the moment a little bit like a pre season tour And these matches takes a little bit of time to not get impatient now because we trained good and the energy is right. And like I said, I think like when the stress level comes for our players ing the best of them. And wasas the heat sort of exactly what you thought it would be or what the players felt it would be? Heat was quite something, so it was full sun. It was difficult, but it is good that we are exposed now because it's better if we feel what's coming and it's better to get used to it because it will come at some point. And no baseball cap today was the heat even too much for the baseball cap. Stange I felt like if I wear a cap I will sweat even more. so I found a place in the shade on the bench and stay there That was Thomas Tuool speaking with Gary Flint. I've got a text here, Connor. When was the last time Harry Kane turned up when it really mattered. Not a big game player whereas Harland is Jinx in Bristol Well is He's a big game player. That's a big game. No no you' sitting the of asses. that's What was his name Jins in Bristol. Jinx a phone. When was the last time Harry Caine turned up and when it really mattered? for B Mit last season over sixty goals. Yeah. shouldould we crack on with the next bit? I'm an ask' get aggressive I'm asking No tell messaging' back. Messaging back and just like Oh I've got his number Just sounds to give us a bell? Yeah ye Yeah. Oh eight to eight five, nine z nine six nine three donon't get aggressive. John, how were you Scotland for Ilwn really entertaining not like England Jon was it last night It was amazing, Robbie and Cnard. it was just yeah, fantastic. You know wouldn't it g in the first forty five minutes and you can bring on another person place it's just, you know, perfect scenario. It's unusual for Scotland to have it that easy, but Yeah Connor said they're not going to get out of the Conor said they're not going to get out the group John playing simple N next Sunday's a big game isn't it? That That's it if they win that, they've got three points right away You know, Monoon but asell of play before that, you don't know what's going to happen there But then this is it it's plain and simple. beat Haiti. you've got three points. you know thenen you've got Morocco, then you've got Brazil But yeah, we've got to win the first game. It's obvious. If you don't w if we don't win the first game we'll be coming home again probably. John C Connor is probably too young to remember when Scotland played Brazil. Was it David Nary Well, actually think before that I played them in seventy four? seventy four. When was when was David Nary's goal? David Ny he was eighty two. eighty two. great goal. great goal. When when were Pa Lambert played against Brazil? Paul Lambert would have been in one of them squads, no, becausecause he told us a story once. He was my manager Paul Lambert He told me. to be ninety eight. ninety eight. Was that ninety eight? yes, we told He told us. Yeah because we had Morocco then as well. Unfortunately Morocco did his three no ninety So we had Morocco, you know, so we've got two teams from ninety eight again. Yeah. So he told us he told a story once and he said he was lining up in a tone and he said he just looked to his left and they were like gods, honestly, yellow, blue, just ready to go. and he was brilliant for his poor land, but I remember him telling the story about playing against Rivaldo. So it would have been ninet eight wouldn't? That team in that team in eighty two The Brazilian team. Was it wasas it Zikel Crase Yeah, yeah. Well you of course you had a great game against Italy to member. Yes. had a great game with the Itals beat them. two that wasame John John Just quick one. It' a great world c. John who starts up front a big talk got to be I think you've got to play what you had last night. Shanklland and Adams, they worked well together. So why wouldn't you play them? Yeah. I know exactly what you mean, man, and I think they've been brilliant. I think they've been really good. and the biggest thing for me with the Scotland team Listen with all that a bit of laugh, you should know better than listen to Robert this moment in time, mate If I'm being completely honest. you you having a laugh over Scotland, but ha'ving a laugh in Scotland. No no. you was So So what I'm saying is about the squad. I think it's a property. You know, we're talking about a team. He looks what I love seeing about Scotland, did he look so together. honestly. He really, really did and that gives him the best chance. I know we've got the quality of McGain and the quality of McTomy. I know that, but I just think he looked like a proper team and that's going to give him the best chance for me. It was a devastating blow Billy Gilmore. I was a blowner Yeah, that's unfortunate. Yeah, he said being so un lucky at things with injury ser really has. It's just it's some players can get that unfortunately. they can just get injer this at the wrong time and it' But they are still a good squad, like you see. And I think the thing is with us Scotland iss a teams Pimedadonas. Some countries that maybe have got preid donor cent their teams. you know, somebody thinks they're passed and not set you know, it's just because you' going about Portgal, times better without Ronaldo, France and Barpe, possibly. it's just it's just John, who So where are you going to finish in the group? Come on, give us a prediction Id take thug and then qualify thug. I think like you see, we've got to win the first game And if we can then maybe get a draw against Monocco, that'd be great. But it's the first ces of Ky, Robby. We've got to be Hai, plain and simple. If we don't win that, we're probably coming home again. And hypothetically, Joh, we'reving a debate here Like hypothetically Joon I know you Adams and Shanklin you take. If you had a choice to put Harland or Kaine in your team, which one I me take any of them. No, if you that's take one. That's the it one John Iick Hand because of a siege of aiege. you can' no, no No, John. I can't get on board. Thank, John, we're talking about now. Thanks, John. Thank you so much for the call, John. Let's go Dave in Wington now you, Dave Hi, nice to meet you again, Noby. Nice to meet you, Dave I've got a couple of points I'd like to make if that's all right. Ooures I was saying to the producer that I think sometimes England a pretty bore watch at times. know I know we're only on friendls building up to the World Cup Sometimes I sit there watching thinking, I'm going to put a soap oa on laughing and joking, you know? because They are sometimesakake as any've C the shorry sorry Cola, ye. No you guys don't make on your quest reggarding your point about Kanan Harand, yeah very, very closely matched players. has a goal potential, it's got to be Harry Kane every time. He might not always have a great game, just slightly above howland only make a lot of sense. he's got to be on the team shape. but the point I was wanting to make about that was If he gets injured, who's going to fill his boots? Wh's going to get us over the line? Be I think sometimes when he's not scoring Where's the Great threat coming from us, yeah? Yeah. No, I I can get the board of what you say in terms of the greatreat threat. Sorry to interrupt to today Dave. Yeah, but. I'm not one Listen, it might just be me. might be an individual point of view. I'm not oneed who likes because Rob mentioned before about what if you're man. I'm not the manager. I don't want to think of Harrry not being f I don't want to think of that because my whole situation of thinking England I've got a chance this W Cp is Harricane being fit. So at the minute he fit Let's keep him fit. He scored Jeseves is seenty nine goal for England Jesse. He's going into the tournament full of kind of enthusiasm and ready to go when he's firing all cylinders. So for me, let's not think about it. let's not be negative like we do in English nation. I' not going be negative.'re not we're not going to be negative. I've got one other points to make Even though you did say we're not going to harp on our players who have not gone to the World Cup. I will make a point I am united bo the poet I was going to make was MagGuire doesn't always have a good game again, but he tends to deliver something you know, whether it be a header or make a goal, you know I hope we don't regret not put picking him in the team Yeah, and ye, you know No, I know exactly what you say and it's a great point sport. and I think he's a fantastic season. by the way and he's a really, really good player. but I think looking at this squad For example, if Harry Mcuire wins I don't H Magu plays and that's not me being out of order. That's not me. I don't think he does. because I think there's other play plays in front of him listening to Thomas Tuland in the last March squad when he said he's still number five center backack. there's still center backs in front of Harry Maguire whether people like it or not there is. So I think he doesn't he goes and doesn't play. Now then you're asking what sort of player is he around camp if he's not playing He' expected to play. He's had an unbelievable England career. He's been fantastic F England Nobody has ten that away. He's a brilliant brilliant footballer. I'm just looking at the squad he's picked What players are right for each individual role. And we hadard the call before so didn't we say about roles and responsibilities within the team. Harry Mcuire is going to go and want to play every minute of every game. Of course he should want to. But how is he going to be if that doesn't happen? That's just my argument with it at thisent in time, to be honest with you Do you think J think do you think he should have gotone a head ahead of then Dave Well, I'm not sure. J don know that one No, not really no. only reason is John St hasn't played many minutes is he this season. top top player though topop player I mean, how far do you think we can go guys? arere you confident in of think she's going to win it world class. I think we can win it. I think we can win it. I swearest honest to Godmate. I think we can win it. I think we can and you might think I'm sounding stupid or England have to win the world Cup at some point. England have to win it all they don't have to some point. Of course they do. Of course do you have to win it because the squads are too good the plers are too good And we need I am hoping this is this team that's come together goes and does what we all want it to do. So as a team then, so I can say to the both of you now On Harry Kane. probably gets into that franam Mh Death and rise No, you've asked the question, why I'miving you answer possibly. And then're walking away from the question. Do thatis get in Portual' team in midfield M inststead of who for me Vinia I think someone, no one's talking about athleticism and things like that. I think Portugal would love Declan Rise having the ability to have him to play instead of who. O of the One of them Dave and England So England going to win it? likeike kindon of thinks they will. I'm not going to say we' I'm going to I hope he's right, but I'm going to say We need to get to at least the semifinals, know with the team we've got, you know, they can do it, but you know, It's a tough ass because there's some great teams there knocking around, you know, Portugal Portugal, how good how good are Brazil going to be? I mean, I mean and how good is Spain, you know You've got your m I mean, golden boot your mou. I mean, he's just mustard, doesnn't he? you know what I mean? Dave. Yeah. so yeah. thank you so much for the call. Listen, I do always plant pans out. Listen, do I want name the to do Well? yes, I do. I don't think you do that. No, I do. I wouldn't do well. I do I do. I wouldn't do well because it's it's a preicious team. I do wouldnt do well. of course I do because Yeah there's something to watch on the telly What I mean, if they're still in it? because some of the games some of the games early. Yeah. Yeah I think you strive I think you're one of the people who thrive if Englanderbol I' Welsh, you know going back to what you just said about a semifinal. Yeah. Do you know if? So you know England got to a semifinal the Garth Yeah got to the quarterf final in the World Cup in Qatar? We got to two finals in the Euros. Do you think The country accepts the semifinal M' thing to do. No, neither way. No. Neither do I. Honestly. Neither do I because we brought the manager into this job take us to the next step. That's what we've done because Gar have done an unbelievable job. Yeah. But even he still then got stick The missed opportunity toil home in the final. L outide it's But they haven't qualified for the No other soundy sl good said they? you want tona do that thing again? whereere you go right next call? Oh Frzer, how are you? Scotland fan, How are you, Frzer? How you doing guys? Yeah. ye Yeah're looking for looking forward to the tournament. So'm I'm heading out weekend Tuesday. Oh, you're heading out to Boston. Yeah. to Bost man Yeah, going with my family, going with my wife and two sons So it they for missing the first game and I'm just hoping that we're still in the tournament when I get thew. So whichich games you watch? you going to watch the Scotland, Brazil, Scotland, Morocco So Morocco game and then the Biz getting of the best games phrase, aren't you Well top of a lifetime really, you know, you might not say a win, but you're going for the Mas games. Yeah, But I suppose, you know, we we've got a healthy dose of realism haven't we? you know, it's like we beat Bolivia last night for h play well. No noobbody's saying, you know, were that we're going to win the tournament. I think like for Scotland to to give get at the group, you know, that's going to be that's going to be the big the big goal, isn't it? So So F is obviously, you know, financially, obviously it's be seeing the prices, we're seeing, you know, getting around cities, you know, the cost for you and your family, you going be your wife and your two sons, you said That's could it be expensive I've got two boys at fourteen and fifteen. We get our tickets through The Scottish FA through the kind of it used to be called the traravel Club, but the Sorters Club you've got enough points you get there you get the kind of standard price tickets. So we've not paid over the odds for our tickets. That's been okay, you know, from from that point of view, although the tickets are about just over three hundred pounds on average, which it's a lot for UK prices I think for American sporting events's not. And how would you travel around the cities? what would you do? because I've heard about the prices when you're there Yeah, so like we're taking kid of trains and stuff, I'm not driving wh are they? like, you know, that I think one of the games in Boston, you know, the the kind of the train to the stadium, you know, is It N normally twelve dollars or something like that and you go and watch a Patriot's game. but for mere there it's eighty dollars.in't no, it's a nightmare. and is The thing is, I suppose that the Euros, when we went up the Euros public transport was fees, including your ticket. So It's just G me guys The hosts, you know, I don't know what it's like in Canada or what it's like in Mexico, but I know that it's certainly in U say like the prices seem to be quite high really, don't it?'s fair It's fair play to be a phrase because for me that is just madness what you've just told me about the ticket prices. So I think the biggest thing that Scotland bring to these not just a good side and when we talkking about the team and where they are at this moment in time is the supp us. like Wales does suppterses well ye The suppters are unbelievable at these competitions. you know, people don't perhaps understand that, you know, like for Scotland, that is what it's about. you know, for you've get so many different clubs and then they all come together and You know, it's really unparalleled because you get such a great time, everybody's so friendly, you know, and we just want the teams to do well. support the team and you know, but they don't do well you know, we're well aware of where we are in the world. What our position is in the world. Weard you talking earlier on like who would get into the otom not Oh phrase is' just Go on go on your bank phase No, just just like if you're trying to think about who would get into the The England school from the Scotland squad doing in a parallel to a France questionion whoo if we got that get Maybe McTomy, maybe Mageden after Dswell Avilla Obama is not Rob nobody's going to get a look. you know, Roberon maybe, I don't think so. you know, we see There is he's probably going to be onforming the World Cup back 's not played a lot. didn't take a lot for Liverpool. Yeah we have no left on doing packing them O'eilly complained. They you put Robinson over O'Rilly If you're talking about balance and a left footed left back. Robinson' a top player. Tomy get getting in the squad yeah Main, yeah, you were looking for something there waiting. again, you go to they agreed but yeah, Magain no Mcgin, no McGin doesn't get nameam thiswood Okay but Motomy does. There you go, Frase. I can't see any more than Hemisphere team winning the World Cup, not in those heat. I've got a text here, Connor. When was the last time Harry Kane turned up when it really mattered. Not a big game player, whereas Harand is Jinx in Bristol He's a big game player. That's a big game. not what you said one of ass is that's What was his name Jins in Bristol. Jinx phone. When was the last time Harry came turned up whenever your mased? by me un it last season. G over sixty goals. Yeah. We crack on anpect. I'm an ask Yeah' get aggressed. I an ask. No. I just don tell messaging back Messaging back. and just like I've got his number. Messes be say're having lagh together at that We so it's good. Good stuff. At least your misses listens to it. eight to eight five nineero nine six nine C is a number. T call Cple the text here U hereere's one for you. England will definitely win the World Cup, like you said in twenty one are thirty. I never said No not this one. but you said they will win it. Not this one, but you said eventually they will win it. Yeah, they've got to. Yeah, they've got to. Al says in Oxfland, they'll win it in twenty one thirty twenty one thirty Yeah what we are now We're in twenty twenty six. So they're in twenty hundred and four years. Yeah. anotherother negative message. You don't really need them. So looking at the stats, Kane. Okay, Hland? We don all agree that the best league in the world is rem Lague Yeahah the Pm Lag. So last season in the Premer Lague U thirty five games twenty seven goals ex this so hard. Yeah.ty five. involments in thirty five games and Harry K in the Bunders Lager What' do you think it was? I don't know But go on, I'm sure youre going to tell me No, I'm asking a question. It was thirty one games, thirty six goals. Yeah and five assists so that's forty one goal involvement and thirty one games. So You know, you'd argue that he did score more goals Chapan'seague. I think he's got about four to fifteen goals in the areicate. Yeah So the basis of that, if it was a Ballonor right now, Kain would be ahead of Sley of Harland in a hundred percent, yeah. Yeah without a doubt. Yeah, Simon, how are you Hi am Robby Barcading in. All right, si, how are you si? Yeah, I'm good, Pal. How you? If you could have if you could have Harry Kane or Harand in the Welsh team, who would you take? I would have Harland Is that lie? Is he well, sorry Yeahes. Yeah. that's because he' well still,n't You don't like them out you No. I'm just saying I'm just saying I'm not being kind of horrible about it. but you No, I'm not because we just said they're about this season where Kane's at Surely that's. That's where we're at. N that fortunate us to go to the Man City Arsenal game. And Harand was like absolutely phenomenal. It's all over the pitch had his shirt ripped off, he was he was he was amazing. Like my little boy's ten He'd like he idolizes iny thought it was amazing. But like my my sort of main point being like I', you know, I'm little bit older, you know, my first my first game card if with Wales against Wester the nineteen ninety one in Rus Rushsy scored the win one. You know, we got Rushy up front. We got Dean Saunders, you got Sparky We got all these boys up front. It doesn't matter, you know But you know, all it all depends on As a team, or you got it back And you know, I don't mean any disrespect to any any of those lads, but you know, you look at n ninety four when we could have qualified for the worldorld Cup We had poull voting you know, taking that penalty, banging but off a cross bar. Rain Rain that Yeah, or maybe, you know, we were All of boys, Eric Young, Kit Simons Chris Coleman, all those boys, you know, they were decent, but it makes it makes a difference. We always use to sw goals. Is that what he say about England then s? the back for England is not strong enough Yeah, yes, mate. Yeah, like you look at it, like and you know, I think Carl has said about Aarry Maguire. L he getess he gets a lot of grief. Id take him every day. you know, please what, you know, what it You know like it's our Mar G I've got loads of time for. He's brilliant. too be fair to lad Again went to the M at the Asenal game. He was like he was brilliant. But sorry to interrupt me. Do you take Harry McGuay when he starts? Is that what we're saying I would, yeah. Over over oververstones. He's not playing for most of the season.n't He hasn't played since It's minutes since December. minutes this is about now. this is about getting through the tournament. He's for me, Johon Stones is our best center off Is been f I' fully fit and playing. I agree. But what I'm saying to I completely agree with the call. Simon, I completely agree with the call by the way. I always remember being there in guitar wr right and a little story when went to guitar So Steve Holland was brilliant I mentioned Steve on the call today. and he said to us to win majorouraments, you have to keep clean sheets. So when we got to the final of the Euros We conceded one goal Fr a free kick from Denmark, if you remember in the semiin finals before we got to the finals, we can see one goal from a set piece In Qatar, we conceded two in the first game and straight awayay he nailed us and he said, no no, we can't concede goals. So I completely agree with the com with the call, but I'm just saying I'm not saying I wouldn't take Hry McGuay. I'm certainly not saying that. but I'm saying from Thomas Tuk's point of view, he has a dilema because if you take Harry McGuay and Har MGuay doesn't what then did you get from the nation becausecause he saved himself a little bit because then if England go and get beats against Croatian affairs game, everyone goes how Do you know what I mean? So ye not one hundred percent one hundred percent get it. but at the same time And this is like this is not a facitious thing at all He's still getting paid the same, isn't he? Like to him, it doesn't really it doesn't make a difference either way For me, Mark Gay here at the back and and Jon Stones would be phenomenal. Harry MagGuire, if you want to play a threeree, Harry McGuire The one I don't understand if I'm being completely honest is Jed Bence on a left. Like Yeah,' got so many options down there. Yeah. we mentioned we mention Lukeh show as well Lu show's obvious med out on the squad As So So so these these are Louis Holes, another one who' missed missed out on the squad. Oh suddenly. Yeahah So these are these are situations what you look at you go, but Thomas Du has obviously seening something. Asney he's obviously looking at this going and this is the way I need to go. now you mentioned in int of the game, he lik the second half team Bet than the first half here last night. So is that a way he's going? I don't know. but in terms of these players, I think we need to stop looking on the players who are't there now andm going like what have we got? Let's go for it as much of you Yeah. one hundred percent. No you definitely right, mate. You defin be right.ound Yeah Yeah, let's go I was just going to say, thank you thought you finished going chaos. I was just going to say You know, as you say, the players you haven't gone kind is huge on that and rightly so and As Connor says, if it lose the first game, people will pick holes in it. you know, I was watching Connor's A license and I was picking holes in that, you know, when he was putting out the presentation But coming on s side. more holes than he should have be as well siz No no, no, no holes for me, Robby Bach. And I'm just just saying, you know, like from W's point of view, obviously, Craig's doing a phenomenal job U we're all building into the future. and lucky not to get there. But at the same time Wishing the English lads all the best. Sy, well done, Si. Thankk you so much for the call. Oh Well England w and the World Cup Ruddy How are you pull?? How are you pulled tellell, I'm very well. Tell me what have you done with my friend Christopher Well, Christopher is not here he's got a not he when you send him to America or something? He's going to America to cover the tournament I think for the BBC. I think he's going for five or six weeks. You know, so you know, he spending time with his family today, you know, but Connor has been brilliant in his go. I don't know me I don't know. L, look, look tell tell your friend Conor that when England wins the World Cup Pig will fly No, no, I don't like them sorts of calls, mate. I really don't. I don't agree with you in that. Well I'm speaking I'm speaking what I think like you you speak what you speak. Now tell me, stook on a world class manager. Yes me, yes.. Yeah He couldn't win the Champions League with PSG he had everything there on there. He woned with Chelsea because the team was already there. M and Robby could have guided him then Do you think? And then he was dismissed by by Bay and Munich And who do my immunic reglation with compompany apprentership Pmiership championship manager who got relegated. Yeah. Yeah.m sure I'm sure you could got Chelsea for his own country Yeah Germany. He was not good enough for that. And he goes England, the same old story. That's when pigs will fly when we win. England goes there and there, they give him two years to get us to the World Cup. and then they were worried just in case somebody takes him over, they give him another four years They did a shime mine with with Gareth Southgate. And when he was appointed, the BBC radio five might block me He says, no, we won't have anything against God. They got him ideas Okay, too be fair, two years or four years I would have accepted it. Not only that, but the night of him and you expect us that we deserve to win, we don't deserve to win that And that's the reason why we will not win it. Okay. I thing gets stighten up.. I think we've got a chance to fair Paul.u said they got a great chance to winning it. Yeah, no, I did I think I think' got a great chance to win it. And going back to your point of the Champions League, I'm sure you could have won the Champions League. I'm not sure Robby could to be honest with you both I couldn have done it without Robbie. I couldn't have done it He would have been number one. that would have been his number two. Yeah. now but but we could have won the Champions League with Robby with the players who had they were there. So don't you the man donon't you think the manager is good enough then Pa Thomas Stuke, not good enough for England when heases telling me what has he done Please C. Yeah, no. If you go back to the Champions League situation you said that Chelsea team was ready. I'm not really sure what makes a team ready. need after that. No, no, but you need a manager to push you over the line. You need a top manager to get you to the Champions League. could have done that You couldn't You could't. Oh giveive me a break, will you? No, no, you couldn't. And I could have done better with the Englland sideide. No Believe me. I'm seventy eight years old. seventy eight. You're sounding good.' Yes, believe me. Yeah I have a photograph Yeah let me. I have a photogoph from Brian Clve is black and white And he says Very best wishes, Paul Brian Klaus sign in black in black bb selan Wow,'s a significant brain Cl. Listen, Paul, thank you so much for the call away to a five nine o nine six nine three is the number to call. It was thirty three degrees in Tampa Bay for England's first warm upp game after the match. Anthony Gordon spoke to Gary Flintoff about playing in that heat First of all, on the heat, how was it out there? Tough. I'd love to say it was easy and give you a false answer but I cannot. It was that really tough. Good. I enjoyed it. U But yeah, really tough it just changes changes everything like You just get tired quicker, obviously and h m stately obviously there, but it dries a pitch and then you touch you have to readjust. changes everything. Is that just physical tiredness or does it also affect the brain as well? Well, physical then leads on to mental and that's when you kind of have to gather yourself, be mentally composed enough to say, right It is hot. I need to save my legs a little bit I think in England I can run all day by that he's probably going to have to be a little bit more smart. And I just wonder with the water breras are you almost sort of reworking things in your mind? Are you almost playing four quarters now? A little bit yeah. I think I'm definitely waiting on them twenty two minutes. So excited h I see the guys bringing the water over. And it got the ice toiles and stuff it It's a great couple of monutes Now you of course, have had a very busy summer already I just wondering in terms of the move to Barceloa, was that something you wanted to get boxed off and done before you came on England duty Yeah definitely. I made that clear quite early. I definitely needed that to happen because I went through the Ouros last time with a large chf of speculation and it was just a nightmare for me. I struggled to avoid the distraction. My teammates are asking you about it, Y agents' calling you, There's a lot going on And it's just better to have a clear focus. Now that's all wrapped up And really just focus on England to focus on giving everything to aor Cup And I must say I've got to thank Barcelona and especially Newcastle as well because they were so good to deal with 've done everything on my behalf and we're really good to meet both teams. It seems a long time ago I first spoke to you on the pitch side at Guterson Park in the Everton Blue, one of your very first games and now you're a Barcelona player. I mean, in your own mind, sort of have you sort of come to terms with that as of yet U I probably won't until I put the shirt on. I think I was just saying e, it's more for me family. I've told them since five or six years old that I would get to that stage probably delusionally in many ways. but I always believed I would get to the stage but I'm not satisfied at all. My family was saying congrats to stuff after, which I was really grateful for, but I want to win everything about Barcelona. I didn't dream of playing for Barcelona just to put the shirt on. I want to win everything. So I've got to this point it's another level, another big step. and now I'm ready to go to the next step again. Yeah, Marcus has already gone down that route clearly. Did you tap into his knowledge a little bit before deciding Not before, I don't like to rarely discuss that with anyone because I don't like to put people in difficult positions. teammates, coaches, anyone like that like to just rarely keep it to myself but. We've spoke you know post and he's given me some really good information, tellld me about the team, places to live So we've had some goodcus discussions which have really helped me. You really are living the dream, aren't you as a football? I mean, a great worldld cup with England. I mean this could be ammazing for you this summer. Yeah, I'll be living in dream when we win You know, talk about the heat, you know, looking at England. I know it's hypothetical this con, but they could play Mexico city in the last sixteen in Mexico And you win that Argentina Brazil And you said they could win it. Fain in the final Yeah, but you've got to beat them at some point. I mean,'ve from we've gone from situations in this country where Everybody talks about was having an easy route It's too easy for them that They've got to get there. They should get there. That's what And now of we have a hard route and it's can't get there. We need to do something at some point. We gott to just keep on burying the England team just for whatever route they've got. You've got to go and beat them at some point Very good point C. eight to eight five nine zero nine six nine three Craig, how are you? Hello there. How are you? How are you Robby? Very well, Thankks Greg Very good. A I alive in that world or are we just waiting? No, no, you know you don't lie if you don't lie. That's it actually. haven't you can. I put it on the background and I wanted to I didn't want to get the background noise. Okay Yeah .yway, Robby, very nice to. And Conor, and Connor C here,K Hion.K mate, I'm good Thankk you, mate.'m all good, I'm good So it's an England far I' sport England the World Cup obviously I went to the semifinal against Denmark in the EurRros and I was at the final as well, unftunately. But we had a certain style of play in the South gate And we played in the sem played in every match apart from the final And I do think it's because we scored so early in the final And so suddenly Italy changed their pattern, their press, they went higher And we never quite played the way South Ka want us to play and everyone in the time everyone well everyone, the majority of people in the UK were going get rid of ouring rubbish not getting the best on these players Forgetting, I'm fifty two. getting how when we have the All the best guys in well, all the very good players Beckon the Gerard. That was it e Euro two thousand four, What's Euro that And we always went out the quarterfinal stage And when people were clamoring for South Ka to go It was just a case of be careful what you wish for. And I don't know enough about this current. I don't like to watch these friends and everything You know, it's like Rpello w one every game, I think is all qualifying for Was it Jeremy when one of that spa time with all the wges D't really mind these games. It's like when it comes to competition football P your foot down, you do your best. You play this on you And you know, you've been brought to play it. And Falkate did a tremendous job there I don't know how Tooa is going to do But if he doesn't get to the calluse or semies Yeah, we've been as well as su in the last three or four tournaments Yeah and to be honest with you it's a great point and going back to your Gareth point to start off with. I completely agree with you. I think at the time, what we do in this country and I think we all do it at some point in our lives where we don't look at actually the bigger picture sometimes. We just look at, o we're not going to w one that tourament. So we never won the two euros after getting into the final E evenven Savve says it was a mis chance. You can't say it was a miss chance of course it was, But we were there. and I understand what you're saying. couldould we score too early? I don't agree with that. I think we should have been good enough to hold on to The lead that we had and go again with the players that we had. it didn't play againame. Connor, we didn't power againame after we scored early. No we didn't see. didn't play the game where the back forward is playing around And if you I am a bit of a stop off. if you look at France's record in major competitions. they don't they don't score they don't go win four or five every again No, no, you spot on but go go go talking about Gareth. I honestly think I think you're exactly right. I only think now are we giving Gareth the credit he deserves because of what he' done with the nation now I don't know where Thomas Tull takes us. I just think the FA The FA have appointed a really, really good manager. That's all I can go after the minute Ilyly. So do we go back to looking like you said, look looking at the games they should be winning or do we go back at looking at the the job the manager has done. So I just think he's good manager.'s been given the England job. Oh twenty five, nine nine six nine three. Thank you, Craig. Norry, how are you Good evening Robby. Good evening Conor. Good evening. Good evening. How are you I'm good b Listen, I'm going to tell you something right now. Scotland are going reached the minimum als on And I think that just like the finurnish goes. I think them about be mines to sendif finals I watched Scott McGs B love you last night citable Holy patiently. notot getting everybody roing about And that's why they come out there for no winners They play the mars, they play the temperature, They've got all those You see all those talking about or how hot it is blah blah, blah As you Scottish players, you bike can bike playe today in Scotland? about slnshake. But no There's not you're not getting to you're not getting to the semif final D you know I know, ye, you know Let me to tell you this Roby, we're going to be a heatast sorory Oh yeah that's the big game Fal. Yeah F. H teeen then we'll beat Morocco to one and then we'll draw one one with Brazil. Do you whatraw Sorry not. you know what I can say though Rob, is that momentum builds in these tournaments now They've won last night and obviously all Scotland fans are really happy and really excited and like they should be because that was a really good performance last night But then they do go and be Hity. You've also got three points on the board then Mentum takes you a long way and now I'm not saying they're going go make the semi But what I'm saying is momentum takes you a long way and it can carry you through games at these competitions't even Do it't make a semis? No I don't make semis so can I just interupt for one. Go on, make one. Have you noticed go S been scoreing up games cause a number of laars And because they got they've got good players by the way. We're talking we're talking about a p Scotland te Sank was right on for M Scott was So can se' a porture S just straakers And his battround goes that's what Scott needed She Adams is actually joining the news beenit aog te a very loyal Scotland players And he's brought the goals in there as well A lot of teams are going to be afraid to Scotland Yeah it's not a good game for anybody. It really isn't. But for me the big thing is momentum. Mentum for Scotland for teamm in Scotland and I don't mean that in but they a team who were together. they've not got really big names. They've got real good players, but no real big names and that's what makes them a good team. But for me theent momentum is massive, massive. names. No, they have big names, but what I'm saying is what makes them a good team is that just together not they' not massive big Yeah Yeah, there's more than that, mate not Scotlland a good team
