We would absolutely love to hear from you this morning, but we are top. rememember that we are top of the best third place teams at least for now An early goal undo in Scotland last night, David James Listen, first of all, let's talk about that goal. From a goalkeeper' point of view, Angus Gun. Absolutely no chance he leathered that didn' he Yeah, good morning, Gordon. I hope that landing off the land post wasn't too harsh for you Do know? it was a fantastic strike Oviously very close, very hard. The one thing I would say is that goalkeepers practice volleys and half vollys a lot and therefore there's a part of me that thinks do you just read it as a normal volley and try and get something on it. but he was very close. Yeah, it was a bad start for Scotland Jamen, you telling me you' to go got that? I think that's what you're saying here What I would say is I've tried to catch them and they've gone in, so possibly not, but it' just the first thing I thought was it's a volley and that's what you warm up with. So there was a part of me that thought but it was as I say tremendously close and I didn't see the speed, it must have been one of the hardest shots of the World Cup so far. Yeah, Morocco looking really good. David. here's the thing and I need to hear your answer on this because I'm furious about the referee That John McGinn situation, it was a clear penalty, was it? not even with your three lines on your chest. Right. I Everyone screams about consistency in refereing and VAR and my argument for this is always that the same people have to make the same decisions and therefore they're being consistent, not everybody do the same decisions as everyone else because that wouldn't be human. and that's why we've got human referees and VAR. He was consistent. They were consistent. I mean there was a couple of penalties there could have been penalties which weren't. so I can't blame him for consistency. However, you would think the VAR would have at least got him over to the monitor to make sure and we've seen already in this World Cup, haven't we with with them Baay that referees are preared to stick by their on field decision. I think that was a clear case of possibly a referee standing by his word We do complain, don't we that the game iss not a contact sport anymore, but really he was letting it go, wasn't he? He was and that's the thing. there was consistency all over the field. so in part because it was Scotland, of course there's the side we could all be frustrated about, but he was consistent throughout the game, wasn't he what can we expect? Okay, right. let's get your voices, your opinions, your thoughts, please Scotland and also Morocco fans we want to hear from you call us. Oh way to wait five nine hundred nine six nine three, please join the debate. give us a call, get involved. Later on the show we will be doing our World Cup week one Awards, best team, best player, best fans, villains of the tournament so far and England fans, David It is a long wait for that second game, isn't it? What selections issues do you think Thomas Dookco's facing I headaded the game against Ghana on Tuesday night, whereere are the headaches? If there are any Well I don't think he has any headaches in the moment. I think he's in a wonderful place. He's probably like you were at the top of that lamp post at the moment. I think's I think there would have been a plan. and logically there would if there's going to be rotation, which I believe there will be, some kind of rotation, I think this would have been in this sort of set set up for the for the group stages. obbviously monitoring players fitness and stuff will be the key thing since the game and during training. But yeah, they're in a good space at the moment. So I think Thomas Sukeal is quite happy with whatever he has to face. in for the next game against Ghana Is there an argument to start how we finished because the four players that came on tryed of change the momentum in the game, didn't they There is, yeah. and this is the point. I mean, we're all we're all managers, aren't we when it comes to team selection and the likes of Marcus Rashford, I would love to see start a game, see how he gets on. I think there's a key thing here for for players in preparation for a game when you're starting is very fundamentally different to when you're on a bench. And I think if you're going to be using u different players in starting positions and either Ga definitely against Panama There would have to be some changes and that's not to rest players necessarary. That is just to get people used to getting ready two star game. So whether it's the ending lineup or whether there's something else up Thomas Toule sleeve I'm sure there'll be some changes G man. You arere listening to the lovely voice of David James this morning. If you want to put a point to him, get in touch with us, please do. We will talk England.it wait five nine hundred nine six nine three callalls on all aspects of the World Cup as well. After a week and a bit of a play now, Ill tell you what it feels like it's about three months old this World Cup to me, I'm absolutely broken. No Scotland, no party, no voice. And we're here until twelve. You've only got an hour to get your calling.it to wit five nine hundred nine six nine fe, but let's start with Scotland. Kevin is with us. Kevin. now how are you feeling this morning It I w know would you have taken that a few days ago I would have taken one now probably ye after Morocco's performance against Brazil He love our You know, watching the game and watching the highlights again this morning, you know, we bit gutted that we had get a bit more, I think, particularly with the penalty. They says, well, been after seventy one seconds, whatever it was, you're feeding the worst. But after the whole game, you're thinking we deserved at least I think a draw last night Yeah What' do you think about the I for the in cf He was well, I think, was it consistent, David de consent, I think he was consistently incorrect And you know, Sammy Certainly with the penalty decisions, them I've seen them giveiven I thinks a bit polite to say the Mcins an absolute stonewaller. and the McTomy one, you would you would take that as well, but for me, that's not a penalty but the drum again, I don't I fail to see why that's not a penalty kick. you know, he's put the ball past him and he's taken out the game. there's also a red card possible red card with Adams C thatC Adams earlier on. I think you know he's the last man last defender in the booking. Adams just didn't go This theig penalty is the one for me which It's a very very poor decision. and I can't believe VR didn't get cant get involved either Kevin, I good morning, first of all, I mean,'s an interesting mean Yeah I'm all right,, not as well as you possibly, but The consistency thing. I mean, as I say, the referee was consistent. I'm not saying it was it was in in Scotland's favour by any means, but att least he was consistent. Do you not feel though, given The way that the game went. I mean, seventy one seconds, seventy seconds, whatever it was for the first goal is not a great way to start a game But I just felt that Scotland's passing was poor. and they allowed Morocco to have more more say in the game than possibly they should have done. I mean, we're talk about basic passing here. Do you think that sort of was because of the early goal or because of frustration? Yeah, it's losing a go of sub subopimopptim like seventy one seconds, you're wondering chasing the game. But I think we' showed this as well against Haii the first game, I think the passing is poor ad mation was ped as well I think the call obviously knocked his back And have we think confidence Morocco'sails would up. Morocco certainly could have scored one or two more, I think those early stages but I think we settled into the game. and the passing get a little bit better, but I'm still you know expecting a bit more from the kind of leaders and the team, the generals and the team, I think McGn certainly stepped up last night and McTominy he's maybe still not one hundred percent with his with the stomach bug I think he had before the first game. He's still maybe not one hundred percent. But he's he's the one that we need to play Mc Tomy player can take on anyone. If if he's not at full fitness or he's not on top of his game then we struggle in midfield Ke one Kevin. Kevin, stick with us just a second. We'll come back again and D and get excited about him in just second. We're just going to go to Ellan at Olddroid. There's been a wicket at the Oval Yes and an oovation for Henry Nichols out for one hundred and twenty one Brilliant innings by him. two hundred and sixty one for four New Zealand now. The lead is three hundred and sixty one, but Joffer Archer having missed out with a wicket on the very first ball of the day when Darryl Mitchell was put down difficult chance by Brooke at slip. No mistake by Brooke this time. Archer the bowler and Brooke taking the catch at second slip. So excellent work by Henry Nichols, who didn't play the first game at Lords then Cane Williamson retiring after that game gave him the opportunity to come in and he has more than done his bit. twow hundred sixty one for four New Zealand, they are so much on top here, but at least England have something to cheer them slightly on this gy morning at the Oval. Eleanor Alllddrooy, thank you very much. indeed. David James is coming back to Kevin's point there. There was a suggestion of a red card. There wasn't there a yellow on Chay Adams. Did that seem like the right decision Yeah do you know what? In gameplay, I thought, yekay, yellow card makes sense. when they saw the replay And again, I mean, this is we're talking about consistency of the referee on the field, which is one thing. We're also talking about VAR and I think it's been applauded from what I've sensed in the earlier stages of this World Cup the consistency of the VAR because when you look at the replay, the ball bounced Bono was nowhere near it and you would think Shay Adams would have made it before Bono. therefore that is goal scoring opportunity. Again, not saying that the referee would have overturned his on field decision, but at least give him the opportunity to have a look at the monitor and then make a decision. So possibly there, a red card there, possibly a penalty. I mean, there was a lot for for Scotland fans and just general fans of of refereing to be slightly aggrieved by Yeah fans of refereeing there aren't too many of them at the moment Gordon I'm a fan of referees, but they are human and they are allowed to make mistakes. and I think possibly there was a few made yesterday Strongly disagree with you there, David. Let's bring Kevin, stay with us. because I want to bring Robert in here. Robert, there were probably two penalty calls here, but of in your mind, which was the most obvious? John McGinn isn't a guy who goes down he's lazy No and he' li withng greatgests on these year he's been there It kind of the pan was me Well if you made mistakes, w the haot turn and she w would make go bit go bit the more and she She doesn't really it And ye you go these stupid things were cor on or And there's no V had running A. She well I that's the one me You mean mister So how can you can do with that because that was a we in painay. I was slowly and I tell you what I'm what to say every. Robert. So David, what do you think then? you know, it should it have gone to VAR, David. That's the thing that I was surprised about. Yeah, there' so I don't obviously I'm not part of FIFA and I wasn't there in any refereing discussions after the France game and the Ibai incident. questioning whether That incident within Bape. And if you can't remember it, and Bape goes through I can't remember who tackled him now. Someone brought him down and the referee went to the monitor, basically said that Mbapee engaged contact and didn't give the penalty. Everyone else seemed to think that it should have been a stonewall penalty and whether or not that incident has been mentioned around the referee in circles to like, okay, we're not going to go into that position. We don't need that embarrassment again and let's stick with the VAR decision, not the monitor Um, Yeah, as I say, I think they should have both gone to the monitor I say a defend the referees on field decision, but you you trust that VAR would say to him, hang on a minute, you might not have seen it properly He's got the cam on there and everything. even on the cam, it probably looked like it was a possible penalty. So there is a lot of frustration there. I'm not going to blame the onfield referee for the decisions he makes us That's the term that's really beginning to wind me up is initiating contact. You can just imagine that crumbling down into grassroots football and now being used as an argument. He initiated contact Riff Jim what, we can't hear that in football down whatute. Yeah Yeah, but go the thing is this happens. it's been a frustration. I mean, I go back to my career. The amount I'll tell you, I think nearly every penalty I gave away where someone initiated contract Um player, know, a player sticks the leg out to make the contact whatever. U I'm don't think in a John McGinn case that was a u that was an issue in the Unbatan I didn't see it again properly to know whether it was right or wrong. I trust that you know I actually applauded the referee for sticking with his decision. because as I say, you can understand the ramifications around FIFA and the refereing department The VAR has been overturned It doesn't look good, so I just wonder whether there is a conversation that's been going on behind closed doors The one for me with McGginn is that the defender seemed to be quite reckless in the way he came steaming across the box and took McGgin out. That was the issue for me. know If you look at the bigger picture of how the tackle was made, it looked a bit loose. Kevin, you mentioned Ben Gannon Dke there and I'm sure we'll talk about them later in the show as well, but why do you think Stevie Clark didn't start him? because he looks Our danger man, doesn't he Yeah, he's he's the he's the one that we're putting a lot of hopes on in terms of creativity in terms of pace, taking taking taking the man on the bol line and cutting the ball back acrossing the ball in. Fal ball is not good as it could be that'll come, but he was certainly the spark other night against Haiti, I think maybe against Morocco against a far greater far better team Brazil be the same, I'd be surprised if st start. it didn't start last night'd be surprised if he starts against Brazil, but I can see him coming on But it's just to keep it tight, I suppose, you know, sol in the midfield I think was the key last night It didn't last too long. seventy one seconds weren't that solid But I think Ganond coming on for sure against Grazelle Maybe get the winner, maybe get the third one that'll seeal a victory against Brazil. We never know. David there's a little bit the one no winner. I like that. I like No Well, I take one now, but I see one's a nice you know my p' Bzil the one be on for every game. so' take that. but anything at tst Brazil, a good performance. I think that's the main thing and let's see what happens David, there's a liverpool connection there was' no Band Dpe. He looks like a player, doesn't he Yeah, the I mean if I put my manager's head on, there was a moment in the game last night where You went down the right. I can't remember who did it. I think they did an overlap and he didn't feed them the ball and straightway the arms went up from the player. there's a bit with the end products and Kevin sort of alluded it to it there, you know, getting to the byy line and the final cross wasn't right, he'll get it How many times do you need to be in a position to get it right against an opposition like Morocco, yester. I mean, fortunately for Scotland, Morocco weren't on it like they were possibly against Brazil. otherwise it could have been three or four Um I don't know if Kevin or or Robert had seen the highlights of the Brazil game last night They look pretty good. And if you're going to give the ball away to a team like Brazil, then you could end up in a very bad situation. So therefore, the question is Is he going to be the player that's going to get the right crosses in? Is he going to make the right passes or is he going to be sort of running around in circles and end up losing a ball Thanks very much, Kevin. Thankk you, Robert, is all for coming on. We really appreciate your time. Remember you can get in touch as well. Oh eight two eight, five ninez nine six nine three, we would love to hear from you. Michael is a Scotland fan, joins us now, Michael. I'm openly jealous. Am I right in saying you're off to Miami time to fly, but yes You're a mad. You're a mad, man, Ia, Listen them, we've talked a lot about the penalties, but the last twenty five minutes Scotland seemed to turn up and it was a different game, so there are positives are there not Michael to take from that game Yeah, I think so. and I've heard you talking about being gan and doak there. and I think twenty five minutes where we managed to play Mc Tommy a little bit further forward causeed a little bit of chaos at talk with London Bikes and And should have been Gar andor because thats that outlet on the right hand side, you know, he he just brings up peace and so many players doesntar who they are They're terrified by pace. Like you get beind they're terrified by it. And I think definitely pos those things. Yeah, can I yeah, I agree, Michael. I mean the interesting thing is U When Dykes went on, I mean he offered he offered a different threat, didnn't he, obviously with his aerial presence I don't know how if you feel the same, but when Gunadke gets on the ball. It would have been lovely to have seen him do things quicker Um he had the space just to knock knock and run, but it seemed like he picked the ball up and waited to take someone on when you could just put the ball in and early balls. Yeah. and did you did you see that think Sorry did you see the Brazil game last night or any of the highlights? And no, I didn't catch any of that to be honest. So Okay. I don't know if you're inins in Kevin's camp here where you're going to win a one nill with a Ganondke winner. but there was Yeah of course yeah. But there was there were loads of moments to start with where Brazil were excellent. but in the second half, they did it what they normally do which is cancede lots of chances. And I'm just thinking that do Gan and doke and die combination with McTomine a better fitter McDomine. Do you think there's a chance? For me, Adams such a brilliant player. He's technically really good. and in all honesty caused an issue which could have been a red card in the game last night I thought. To me, Dikes just if you if I was a defender to Cle Land and D h every bit of that, you know, he just he's physical. He did win a couple of headirers when he came on. he genuinely tends to It's just got that chaos element to it and it's something we might need we tend to be we tend to struggle if we're a little bit predictable. We can do the unpredictable, we cause people problems, I think Michael, I've got to you a little bit about the high jinks, the shenanigans, the mischief, the nonsense. Listen, I'm really struggling to reaclimatize to normal life. I don't know how to behave properly anymore. How much fun have you had in Boston It's been the best. It's like, I think don't know.'s it's been unlike any other trip, I think, obviously it's the USA. so there's a kind of hip anyway or April we kind I think we' got the perfect city. We kind of came over here and sort of thought you think you're Irish, de? Well, you're not anymore. So we we've taken over now. so apparently that's the thing that Boston's now blue and not green. So which is fine. but I mean, I've been a USort of sports fun on my life as well. in Boston, they're all my teams. So as soon as the jraw was named, my wife was like, oh, you're going, aren't you? I of course I'm going. So it's been incredible. It's just been so good natured like just a genuine sort of t know like even the people in Boston have appreciated the atmosphere trade because it's led to like the town loosening like rules and like people drinking in the streets and enjoying it and nobody being bothered about it and stuff has been so cool. . I was going to ask you, Michael,, the one thing that you've seen was that was peaked atart an Army. For me, there was an incident at sort of crossroads whereere about three lads got into somebody's car uninvited and just drove off, just disappeared. I don't know where they went but that was kind of ye that classic Tartan arrmy mischief, But what did you see today was one of my favorite things out today. We were just in like a square and there was obviously two statues with kind of cones on them. And then there was a very elderly woman who was really like against the cones and kept pushing them off T minutes. Srish people would put the cles on and she would push them off. and that was for forty minutes that happened to D. It was just it was just so ridiculous And everyone's cheering as they go on and booing as they come off. and she change and give up. too be fair, she kind of won I thing because we gave up before she did. And Michael just to add there, you're off to Miami now. I mean when do you come home? when do you actually get home I think I fly on Thursday home but return on Friday morning. so back in Edinburgh on Friday morning and drive The God government Nice good good What did you get up to other than climbing up lamp posts And while the eleven o'clock in the morning version of this story is very different from the one that I would give you if you're having a drink outside. you know that I went to this incredible event put on by David Yarrow, the artist And they raised over two million quids for charity for street soccer, Scotland, which was incredible. And one of the lots, you know just to give you an idea of what they managed to pull together Golf with Rory McArooy, an invitation to be his guest at a major Then there was Ry McArooy And that did all right as an auction lot. But the we guy the I was stand the moment for me was being with the Tartan Army when the wee guy Craig Ferguson arrived having walked all the way from Los Angeles one hundred and four marathons three thousand miles raised one point three million pounds And there must have been five thousand Tartan army there to greet him in Memorial Park, which wass a site that I will hold with me forever. It was incredible to see the reception he gotght and then his m mom lost his kilt in New York Which is pretty pretty painful. but it's been amazing, Michael, isn't it? just to be part of that that spirit. It was I'm just so glad we went to the first game when there was a victory because that's a long way back from Foxborough If you're on the back of a big be Yeah. I'd tell they too lessons learned though yesterday, the transport and everything I find way, way better in the second game. so And I Right Michael, safe travels enjoy Miami. Thankks so for com on. We appreciate your time. Thank you. Ga, thank you, Michael. Right, please get in touch by the way, we are in the traditional fighting talk slot. So we've got to do a few questions. You can get involved in this as well. eight fivez five eight on text and our social media channel. So Mr. David James first question for you that I'd like to put to you is a team of week one and there are a few contenders here, but who just sneaks ahead for you It's only been a week It like you. It feels like it's been three or four weeks already team of this is so bad because the way that the games are spread out so much. I'm going to go for Mexico U first team to qualify show first te to play two games, first team to qualify. So yeah it's quite simple, Mexico, but they the atmosphere U in Mexico as well. I mean you're tal about the atmosphere for the suppters there for Scotland in Boston But I think what we've seen in Mexico has been World Cup football festivals You know, there's something I about to ask you about that because I think seeeeing that as Teka. and how a lot of the commentators, a lot of the pundits talked about it as this magical arena D did you ever have the chance to play there David it? you did, did you No, I do only I went to Tijuana for a day trip. That's the only time I've ever been to Mexico. but the S I've mentioned this a few times on radio, so I apologize if you've heard me say before. Copa seventy one, the Lost Lionesses. they played at the Azteca. Um, it has It has this status like the the newew Weembley's gaining but the oldld Wembley had that I think any footballer given the opportunity to play there would would they wouldn't walk orr do fifteen marathons necessarily, but yeah, that it's like a mecca of stadia in the football world, isn't it? And still holds a tremendous atmosphere re prettyty special One thing I't know was Davidaddle the artist auctioned off a picture right? And it was the one of Madonna holding the World Cu But I'd never noticed it before. His left hand the hand of God was almost touching the sl tire at the top of the Aeca. which felt like it was almost photoshopped, but it wasn't. My team of the week, by the way, is predictable. France, I just think they look like they are absolute dynamite of Mappy up front on they qualified yet Is that a good point, David James? I'. just say, good point, good point. playayer of the tournament so far, David James. Oh they jo it frustrates me saying this, but he deserves it. L Leonna Messi. Lonna Messi Welcomeind more Hatick Yeah Well, I mean, you look at the hatch trick two from outside the box. He's only played one game. I mean he could end up with another golden boot which is great which means Argentina won't win the Rc. I should know it would be his first golden boot,n't it would be it would be yeah for me ye, Tartan classes on here, Ben Gannon Dke, Second best fans of the tournament so far, David James. Second best fans. Yeah, this there is a u There is a the reason why you're saying second isn't there, Gordon. U I'm going to go for the USA I think As much as the Mexico fans have been superb, we expect that because it's Mexico and the Azteca. I think from what I've seen from the USA fans They've really bought into this worldld Cup Um They're sing along, they're qualified and it's actually nice to think that a non traditional football nation is actually really getting into the spirit of things Yeah Norm we were pretty good with the roow. I thought that was all right. but actually when you see the Dutch fans doing, I think it's called the left, doesn't it? where they do the dance to the right, dance to the left they're Dutch soldier boy. It's pretty impressive seeing that. Right villain of the tournament so far, David James Um Elmaron for his sending off yesterday.. Again, we're talking about VAR, they use the VAR the right way there Whatever he said we don't know, but he should have known the rules that you can't speak with your hand over your mouth and it suggested that it was a derogatory term or wording to the opposition player and yes, he got sent off and deser deservedly so For me is Ilgiz Tantashev the referee in the Scotland Morocco match, you might not be This seems to be a theme going on here There is a theme. listen, you pay for the Scottish guy, you get Scottish answers. What about the worst I think I'll know the answer to this, but the worst thing about the tournament So far in your eyes, David. celebrity spy Yes. Yeahah really I don't know what the listeners think. I don't know if there's an app or there's something on the FIFA app where you name the celebrities at certain games But they spend so much time looking at these celebrities and off the celebries aren't even watching a football match, which is disrespectful Do you know what I'm with you on that and actually it's a good point. Do you agree with David James? you disagree? What's the thing that's wound you up the most about the World Cup so far? The show is not just about us. it's about you. We want your nominations. David James is a question I've always wanted to ask you How good was the Gie bag in two thousand two? W wasas it Bexs that sorted you all out with a little present? Wow, how did you know about the goodie bag? I think this might have been sitting in my back pocket for a long time. I heard it was Epic. Absolutely epic. two thousand two. I think we Yeah, well actually the goodie bag wasn't just a goody bag for the tournament. there was a couple of events. I think there was an event at his house and we were given Itsny because I found in the loft a motororlla foam with David and Victoria on it and it was presented in a lovely presentation box Amazing. I didn't have any credit on it It had a massive SIM card. I think it was one of those SIM cards which was the size of a credit card because they were the smallest things you could get at the time. That's incredible. See by this stage of the tournament and I think in that one you were still in it after a week, do you start to get bored or is there enough to keep you occupied? Because I think even by then you were beginning to look after yourselves a bit better with that stuff, weren't you Yeah, I think the I don't know what the players are doing now with regards to social media and what they're allowed to or what they to want to say. We had a wonderful time in Japan and Korea. when we played cards, we did we did some fun stuff together. There was a wonderful karaoke in Joju Island that we enjoyed myself, Teddy Sheraringham Michael Owen sat around cheering, not drinking obviously. It was a really good time. mean that was a wonderful World Cup. and I've got to say, God, I' got to bring it up. listening to Michael speak there at least, what it sounds like is that the World Cup is being properly enjoyed in the USA and I think there was a lot of question markarks over whether that was achievable or whether it's just the Scottish fans that are bringing it to the bring it to the US. but it's really wonderful to hear It certainly as we are talking the World Cup, of course, not just Scotland, not just England, all of the World Cup, and we would love to hear from you today. Please give us a shout. ero eight zero eight five, nine hundredo nine six nine three. That's the number. zer eight eight five, nine hundreder nine six nine three, get involved in the conversation, get involved in the debate. Right Let's start with Stewart. Stewart' with us Hello Stewart, what are you thinking then your views of the Scotland game last night Hello there. Well firstly I've got an English accent, but I was born in Scotland. I Scott to me' avers. But But yeah, very very well, a little bit disappointed obviously, I mean, there's a lot of a lot of people saying about the negativityity again, you know Should be a play the two up front? wasas it a bit much haing through just through the back and shing the wing backs? It started to be difficult, but it was a game we didn't want to lose, but after a minute and a half, it was a disaster. Shey sorry, Stuart. I mean the The thing I find interesting is that the setup Take away the first seventy minutes, which might sound completely foolish in some sense takeake away the first seventy seconds, sorry Um, it kind of works Well, it did yeah, I mean, that was the thing that We kind of We held our own and we had a few chances and obviously the penalty claims, which we would have been claiming were soft if they've been given the other way. but you've seen them given, but we did, we held our own and we just we just didn't quite have that fininal thing up top. I mean, leaving Ben Gandk on the bench and when he came on, he looked brilliant. but I know he was he was kind of cramping up at the end of the first game stuff. so you have to Maybe save them for the Brazil game, but you it was we might move an old trigleer of event for the one hundred ten zero formation a few years ago. We might have to go for a eleven zero zero against Brazil And there's still a hope. there's still a chance. We could still go through on three U same We did we have a good we have a good game. We have chanies. we You know, we we gameame Morocco are at top top side and St's the biggest's the bigg criticism isn't it? Stuart? That's theg criticism Steie Clark, sometimes isn' it that are a little bit too reserved. Do you think the shackles need to be thrown off a bit Well, I think just you know, just with the momentum that we had from the first game and the fans and America, I think they should have just gone for it. that's kind of game that we had to raise our level up to was you know, Brazil was obvious going to be you just write that off straight away. but I was saying to my pals last night that we genuinely think that we Brazil was more of a getting something from game. you know, we've not gone too bad against them with narrow margins than the last World Cup. but Ddgy penalty and all that and on goal I don' willll have to Yeah, it's still living the dream thing. I still think we could do it. and we've got a great team and Steve Clark has done absolutely amazing and you know, some of the tactics have proven absolutely fantastic to get us there And I just think if we actually get through the group stages, I think that weight will come off and it'll give us a little bit of freedom you know, we could even get through to all r. It's true. There's a couple of things I mean, first of all, Kevin's already said that Gun and Dke's going to come on to score the winner. so don't worry about own goals. last great. don't want to cause any kind of controversy here, but do you think there's a part where conversation could have been along the too cool line of don't play with fear, especially at half time because even though you one knill down Morocco weren't battering Scotland. Um No And do you think that conversation could be had prior to the the Brazil game? Well, yeah, pro. I mean, you look at some of the players we've got we've got some great flare players. We've got some great players that can go forward and you've got people that can score from set P season You know McGin and Tanney the they can school from outside the box and Kenny McLan more than obviouslyay. I just think that the way Scotland has played in the last couple years positivity, there's a belief And I just think that we just held back from that last night which we really should have just gone for it. And it's difficult because it's a game you didn't want to lose or you couldn't lose And we did and we'd lost that after seventy seconds, the way you were saying For the rest of the game, we're more than map stump and You know, we really did. And you can only give us a little bit of hope know Mco absolutely Yeah, they were they went crazy on on, you know, Morocco how they're run again Brazil, We how they we'rening against Morocco. Why can't we just that get that drill, we need that one point. I want to ask David about that because you know, you know what it smells like an assisting chapel, right? You've been in the dressing room. Is Stevie Clark a football man who really understands what's necessary to get a result? And football fans will always call for positive football and attacking football. But the reality is if you play that way you get in Scottish parliland pumped. Yeah. Well, there's so many different things that we don't know. I was trying to think of that American general who said itnown unknowns or whatever it was. For example, I think it was Michael alluded to it there about Scott McTomine not being one hundred percent in the last game. If you haven't got your best players at one hundred percent, then the pressure then goes on to the other players or the next level of player. And if they're not confident to be able to hold the the man hold the stick if you like then all of a sudden, you get a slightly negative performance. The other side of this is Cark might Clark you might be thinking We could still get through with two defeats at one nil, notot saying that he went out to get beaten, of course, but there's a difference between going for the win and losing two nil in both games and being eliminated straight away on three points to losing one knal, losing one knal having a minus to one goal difference. I mean all these things have to come into play because I think like Stewart said there. I mean, there's a part where you look at Brazil and you would go, okay, well, Brazil going to beat us And if you accept that before you go out there, then what they beat is by four mill or one mill where you're going to take the one mill. So there's a lot of different things. I just hope for Scotland's sake and because I think they're wonderful players the the key players the likes some Mc Tom and A Mcin TiNy are absolutely on it against Brazil because I think Brazil will create loads of chances, but I think this could be one of those epic games in the World Cup whichich yeah, I mean, I'm laughing I mean, you might need to find yourself a lampost somewhere Gordon because it could be one of those games. if there's ever a stage for it to happen, obviously has to be the World Cup in Miami. Well, I'll be lying if I said I't been looking at flights on the internet and I'm sure just before we let you go, have you done a little bit of research about the last thirty two Oh well, yes, yeah, I'm going to have to hopefully win the win the lottery tonight to get out there. but I mean, you you never you just you never, never know You never know. And the dream is that we have a dream, we have a dream as always. You certainly do. Jurie, thanks so much for coming on really appreciate your time today Brilliant to have you on We've got a little message here actually. David here we go says good news, Scotland will finish at least third. Bad news is because they finish group games first All the other teams can see what result they need to finish at least third and their respective groups. You're going to see a lot of draws the last round of group matches. that's from Benny. interestnteresting in that one David, isn't it? Do you think thats gamesmanship at play there? Yeah, well, mean unfortunately that is the luck of the draw, isn't it? I mean Scotland could have been drawn in a favorable position with that with that scenario. I mean, I tell you what, just get a point against Brazil and you don't have to worry about it. There'll be teams sweating wait for waiting for their games. but Yeah, it is the full life keeps turning awake and it feels longer than a week. It's the time difference. that's what it is. Yeah. Scotland look I think on paper Brazil, one of the top ranked teams and Scotland aren it becomes a Brazil win, but the World Cup, as we've already seen them, this is the beauty of the football in the World Cup Anything's achievable. you take a four or draw now and I think anyone watching would happily accept watching a f old draw. and that would see Scotland through I think it's called the Cape Verde speech, isn't it? if they can get an ill nill against Spain That's what ad be to No do not try and do Nil Nil. That has got to be the worst plan. the worst Nil Yeah. Go for the forall At least you'll be ent theertaining. That's definitely David James' career from what I saw that's a bit harsh. And a lovely message here. Gordon and Dave, this is Ellie and Dorking, Lving the show. I so wish I'd been in Boston. what an atmosphere the Tatan Amy always create. Your talk, Gordon about the money raised and the achievements of the marathon runner brought tears to my eyes, amazing achievement. You can get a point against Brazil if you just unsettle them, Ellie Thank you so much for your message. really, really appreciate it. from Ellie and Thorking. Let's go to Ellie All droid at the Oval. Ellie, what's happening there sayour post in Boston made me think there is a man living his best life Things have peaked at that point for you, so I loved that for you completely. I kind of feel always feel like I'm living my best life and I'm watching cricket as you know, but we're in a little bit of a holding pattern. I think here probably New Zealand completely in control on this fourth day of the test match. two hundred eighty five for four they currently are, so the lead is three hundred eighty five, which is more than England have ever chased to win a test match So it's really a question, I think of when they decide to declare and then give themselves the chance to take all ten England wickets and go for the win which would level the series England. Have had a little bit of success this morning, Henry Nichols, caught at second slip by Harry Brook off the balling of Joffra Archer for one hundred twenty one and we've seen much tighter lines from Josh Tan Joffer R Acher in particular this morning and the first bowling change of the day has just happened with Sonny Baker coming on to bowl from the pavilion end. But Cd's overhead here at the Oval but you can probably hear the hum of the crowd in good spirits on this Saturday lunchtime. two hundred eighty five for four New Zealand Lovely stuff, always good to hear Ellie Alddroid on a Saturday morning living her best life at the cricket as she does. David James, coming back to you and I listened to an awful lot of five Live and my recovery period when I came back from Boston with England fans, England pundits talking about that first performance from Thomas Tull And it's difficult to acknowledge this, but I thought England looked Marvelous in the second half, reallyally, really impressive team Particularly for me, I think Harry Kane has got himself in the shape of his life, you know, as a wonderful athlete yourself, David, he looks like he's reverse aging, doesn't he Yeah, I don't know what is happening in Byn at the moment Bn Munich, but watching Harry Cane during the season, it was like, who is this guy? wasas this the same guy that was playing in Tottenham and and not looking half the half the figure that he is. and Manuel Nooyer is another one. who was looking at times last season, thinking, hang a minute, this guy' fourty years old and he looks like he's twenty eight. So something' going on there And I' go back to the conversation we're having with Stuart there There's this bit where Thomas Suchers had alluded to having to tell the players or he said that players had to play the second half without fear Um And you saw that and they responded, the to all first half for a game of football which wasn't particularly great even though it had four goals in it Um was a stark difference to what we saw in the second half and that was an England side who went on the front foot went for them had little reply against them. And as you said, look fantastic. Harry Kane. I mean, Marcus Rashford coming on. One thing I didn't realize until afterwards three goals scorers all play abroad Um, I mean, which is something I don't think that's I I'm sure there's a statician. out there, statatician out there somewhere who might say that's the first time that's happened multiple goals scores. for England in a World Cup tournent who don't play in England great observation that is. That's why David James is on the big box here at F.ight? We've got a couple of clubs dollars. Big dollars, big doars We've got Pul England fan. Paul, What are your thoughts? You've heard David they're talking about the job Thomas Stkele is doing. What are your thoughts, Paul? good morning. Yeah, yeah. I've fought this before toment and stuff like that work in the press conferences before but other clubs And that's not the thing that differe is what is. We got asked about B numbers from be no catching for that last that play that's twenty two years old and so. Just ask about that against sp theiams We I this being exception first, so voc they're happy to talk about his fitness and where he is on it end in this weeeak spot. And you you come my that any smok. So and I think you best not in Monday Not his money, he invests so much on the physicalical ability set. he probably knows as much about their bodies than they do themselves. So everything's finite And start like whatever you think about it. We know, I think sorry to interru, Pul. sorry to interrupt. we've got another wicket at the oval E Eleanor Oer Yes, fififth New Zealand wicket has gone down in bizarre fashion. Tom Blundell, just edging one down the legs side, Joe Rot goes for it, fumbles it and just fumbles it into the glass of James Rue behind the stumps and the two of them end up in a pile on the floor hugging each other, but actually James Rue takes the catch with a great sense of relief. sixixteen runs for Tom Blundell, two hundred ninety for five New Zealand three hundred and ninety is the lead Thank you very much, Hllie David James I think Pauls saying there, isn't he that Well he'sn as the professor in Germany, isn't he? Thomas Duke? He does seem to understand the physicality of his players in great detail Yes But you won't be the only manager. I mean, all this data is available. The I think the big question obviously is how you use the data. The one thing and the caveat to this is Do ask the question. Harry Kanes we mentioned, he's having or had a stellar season in Bay Munich with the amount of goals winning awards left right and center Marcus Rashford, who was re emerged as the the talent that he was in the early stage of his Manchester Unite career and Jude Bellingham, who arguably didn't play as many games as he would have expected. going back to the fitness one I just think in these three players, you've got three players in such a good space at the moment that Thomas Sukal will see the numbers, yes, but he probably sees and can empathize with them Um and see the confidence they've got to say, yeah, you go do what I've asked you to do because I know you'll do it that So I think there's a sort of a location thing here rather than just a physical thing Paul very briefly how far England can go in this tournament, Paul? I think I think they can go a reasonable way, but it're not going to be and what you just said, what you just said there and then run back and it's got like a good point on in one at three two and that could craz them say, good go good get bot. They must have seen that I think what's happening? They're just been in the aron mode haveve been on the bare ground rides went to the second half and they see the lights of then coming on. It passed mod to which by the game, did it it seems seems like. P question He certainly did.ented poll. Thanks for coming on. George is with us well. George from England's point of view. What are your thoughts? Well, it's a horrible humid Morning I'm absolutely buzzing for the game on Tuesday. What a performance in midwk What an absolute result. The second half I don't think I've seen anything like it before. We play with such freedom. these big name players finally fully living up to their potential It's great to say and Id think it's all down to one man. Thomas Tull, what a bloke. The people beyond the scenes England had did an absolutely fantastic job of appointing him. a proven champion, a German man who's showing the discipline that his nation shows And he's installing that in England. We're absolutely fantastic at the minute. And I can't wait see this gar in a game He' going to be an absolute goldfest yet again eorge what's winding you up about theournent Oh, um ' say it's got well because of the ticketing prices, youve got a lot of day trippers there. and it's given me a bit of Eurvisionish vibes U instead of football vies, if you get what I mean George, just quickly the on the hydration brake advert brake tactical adjustment brake Do you find it ironic that everyone booze, it seems, when the announcement's made and then everyone starts singing whatever songs being played? U Yeah, I guess so You talk about your vision and it's like everyone starts singing. it's like, Ohh we don't like this, but let's sing the song Yeah, well they' know what they're doing the Americans. they're papering over it. Um And I guess it's worked out well for them, but for me, I mean I'm not on board with it whatsoever. I'm glad that we've not got advertisement breaks in the UK. I'd much rather have Em hang Gorge
