I thought a couple of those red cards were questionable, but Let us know what you think. The number to dial is zero eight zero eight five nine hundredzer nine six nine three. Scotland in action tonight. Scotland fans give us a call. England play Croatia on Wednesday. We want to hear from you, your thoughts, whatever you're thinking, Are you enjoying the World Cup so far? We are here until seven thirty tonight Right, Callers already lined up on six hundred six. The first live show from World Cup twenty twenty six this summer. We are live from Houston, Texas Absolutely boiling outdoors. We're a little cooler in a hotel room this evening and our first caller on the show is Scotland fan Joyce back home getting ready for a two AM kickoff against Haiti. So Joyce, what what's the plan? The plan is another half hour and then I'm going to have a couple of hours kip and then I'll be getting up and ready to go all night. So you're getting a little power kip in first, Joyce. What where about where about in Scotland are you I'm not. I'm actually in Shropshire Srop here disruption Yeah. Okay. So what so what's what's your thoughts? you are you getting nervous, Joyce I am actually. I was out at the Eururos' two years ago So I know how wrong it can go, but we've just got to keep positive and and when we can do it this time Yeah, a lot of talk in the build up to the World Cup about the Scotland in the opening match against Germany and the fact that that seemed to really set the team back No you've got to win tonight really, haven't you against Haiti? Everybody is thinking that that's a gimme. but I've got to say myself and Ally agree on this It's not a gimmy, is it No, it's not. It really isn't. They're big, they're fast you know, Scotland's just got to be on its game So think is crossed that Even though my heart supported onm still hoping Shanklin's scores tonight Yeah. and I mean, do do you think Steve Clark is it one of those games where you think Joyce he should go for it tonight get let the let the shackles off and just get out there and go toe to toe with Haiti. He has to. We have to. I think that's where we've gone wrong in the euros for the last forice was of cle it a bit too safe. No, let's just go for it and let's see what happens Do you want John McGin back in that team tonight, Joyce because obviously in the foral win against Bolivia, he was on the bench for that game But everyone's playing so well, it's actually it's actually quite tricky Steve Clark, isn't it It is. there's quite a lot of of players on for But obviously being sort of quite local, yeah, I'd love to see John again. Imagine, Jorce if Stave Clark left John McGinn on the bench and Scotland don't get a result. I mean, that's I know what Bruce is saying there, but that's not going to happen, is it? I mean, he's going not. Imagine imagine the outcry if that if that you know, so ye so So Chris, who does he come in for then? Be if you look at that team against Bolivia Midfield four. So the wide men there were Ganon doke and Christy, Mc Tominay and Louis Fergus central Midfield and then the two' going to play in front of Louis Fergonight you know, you'd say it's a McTominy A, you gott to have your big hitters. starting you're talking about you know, a hugely influential player you know phenomenalally is in the Premier Lague He hass been brilliant in a Scotland jersey I mean, so he's going to start in front of Louewis Ferguson. I would be shocked. I would eat my hat. Bruce. You've got a hat well, haven't? Yeah. Yeah I don't want to put a spoiler out there, but Chris Chris has bought some should we say costume? some costume items this after which will which will pop up on the BBC sports Socials at some point Yeah. Okay, so keep an eye out for that. just finally Joyce, so is it is it full kit tonight? have you got the replica kit Well I mean, is you know you got the Scotland shirt on? Yeah. Well, as my husband is actually out in Boston, I don't think I think I'll just still be in my pajamas, so I'll be fine Scotland pajamas, though, right Oh yeah, definitely Definitely ood. Excellent. Joyce enjoy the game. That is Scotland Haiti. It kicks off at two AM UK time before that though tonight, Chris. So we've got after six o six tonight CQatar, Switzerland kicks off at eight. There are four commentaries in the space of eleven hours Ian Dennis and Don Dublin doing Brazil Morocco. That's a game. is goodn't it? that's the other two teams in Scotland group, which hence why Scotland have to be Haiti. I think they could nick a point againgst either Brazil or Mor. You're going Haiti. I'd say Haiti Well you normally, right, Im sure Someone who knows, give us a call.o eight eight five nine and nine six nine three. Terry's an England fan who's given us a call and Chris, you wanted someone who's already been out here watching football. Terry, you watched the warm upp games, is that right? I got back yesterday. so I went to the Tamp game last Saturday and it was so so hot and humid No wonder they didn't play very well. I don't know how they managed to run around in that. U, but we were we were better in Orlando against the Costa Rica It was yeah, it was I thought we did better Definitely. And do you read too a lot into those friendly games, Terry? because I mean, I don't get excited at the best of times but I don't I just think that he I mean, Thomas tooool is difficult for him. is' just use them as as warm up games,n'tly That's that that's what they are practice games Yes. they are, they are, just like When we were at the Brazil World Cup, we had a couple of games in Miami But it acclimatizes them to playing in that heat And and okay, he swapped Certainly in Tampa, you know the whole team swapped. there was another, you know, eleven eleven players on. Yeah, I think so because they've got to get used to playing in that heat It was just Unbearable. it really was But yes, I do, actually. I thought we played much better on Saturday And I personally prior to seeing the game on Saturday would not have taken Anthony Gordon I would have taken Wellbeck because he was the top England premiership goals scorer last season So why didn't he take W Cck? I would have taken him not Gordon, but I have to say, I changed my mind on Saturday. I thought Anthony Gordon played really well Yeah. I mean that I mean cost Costa Rica, I've got to say, I mean, that was a that was a gimmy for England. I think that with regards Danny Wellbeck, I you know, I get that, but I wouldn't have said that Gordon and Wellbeck necessarily would have been competing for the same position Ivan Tony Ivan Tony' the one, isn't it really where you think would But Ivanony Ble account had a brilliant season in Saudi. So you know, getting o gives gives England that physicality. But I think that might have been a Tough call that for Thomas Duchle Well, it might be, but you know, Tony is used to playing in that heat If you honestly, it is so hot. It is so hot And they've just got to get used to that And where we're playing, the first game being in Dallas, it's going to be that same heat and the humidity we're in Houston. Yeah, we're in Houston now myself and and Bruce and it' I mean it's really hot. Actually I was out shopping earlier and I said to the guy I mean, it's always this hot. He said it's actually cool for today. It stings your skin. When the sun is out, honestly feels like you're actually You're actually burning up. Terry, did you try and get done does. Did you try and get tickets for tournament games like any of the group games or potential knockout games or did you choose the warm up games specifically? Well I don't know if I'm politically allowed to say this, but I didn't really want to give Trump any more money Okay I I went to I went to the friendlies because I need I wanted my caps so that I don't know if you know about how the England Travel Suorters Club work. but you get two caps per game you go to Yeah. and and So I'm full caps off a top Kapper. So I didn't get the sixty dollarars tickets right the way through. I did get a sixty dollarars ticket for the quarter fininal. So I'm actually got a flight booked on the twenty ninth of June If we win our group our round of sixteen will be in Mexico City And I've got a slight book to Mexico on the twenty ninth of June. U And then I will go to the quarter final. I will use my do sixty dollars ticket if we win that game U and that will be in Miami. tell you what Ter, you are in for a treat if can get to play in the Aztec. Yeah. I mean the atmosphere for the opener was absolutely brilliant. It's a, you know, it's I mean, you've been there before Buce, haven't you? It's a very vibrant city. And the celebrations. Yeah, the celebrations from from the Mexican fans actually on the evening after they'd won that game was something I don't think I've ever They seen ever explore. What wereere you there? So how was the Okay, so how did the altitude affect you U didnn't really affect me because I'm super fit. I think for people like Bruce that way sort of affected but Yeahet, it's two thousand two hundred meters above sea level. I think John Murray said that it's twice Twice the height of Ben Nevis right? Would he be right? You and John Murray both operate at altitude anyway because you're both well over six foot. whereereas I am actually quite low altitude, are't I? So I do think I'd I mean Terry Terry that's a really good point Terry makes from you know, everybody talk about, you know the heat here in the US. It wasn't actually overly hot, but that altitude and England, if England get to the last which we think they will do. I mean, they're not going to get a long time to a climbate. Terry, what Mexico have never lost in the No, they've got an incredible record. Terry, what do you think about England's chances overall in the tournament just to finish Um as good as they've been in so this will be my fifth World Cup that I will have gone to all of the ones that I've been to, I would say that this is the most I think we've got more chance this time. of getting past the semif final Um Personally, I think it's good that Toucal is not English because he hasn't got the same pressure on him. an English manager would have. But I'm quietly confident And I know it was only Costa Rica on Saturday, but I was impressed with how how they played Um So I am quietly confident Now I will end up in Miami at the course final. Okay. Terry, that is a fantastic call. Thank you very much for calling six zero six. eight zo eight five nine zo nine six nine three is the number to dial. Here's a stat for you, Chris that I did in my in my in my World Cup research twenty two previous World Cups And none have ever been won by an in inverted commerce foreign manager. So every manager that's won a World Cup for that nation has been from that nation. So Thomas T, if he wins it for England be the first one to do that or Anchlotti for Brazil or Roberto Martinez for Paor Chew. Do think they're thinking about that right now? No No, I don't. eight five, nine z nine six nine three is the number to dial. We've heard from Joyce who's watching Scotland tonight, full commentary of that game on five live, two AM UK time. That's against Haiti Terry's been out to watch England in the warm upp games, hopes to be coming back to Mexico City for the quarter final. Let's get Adam on the show. Adam are you coming out here to watch England play in the World Cup? Yeah, I'm quite fortunate I'm coming out for the first three group games And yeah, hopefully the fourth game as well. Okay. how how was it getting the tickets? has it cost you an absolute forortune have you had to sell the house No no, not quite as bad as that. ortunate I'm in the official fans club as one of the previous callers was talking about I think it was Cry there U So no, I've I'm not in the top cap that I'm in the second category. So I've been quite fortunate in In that regard,'ve been saving for a couple of years to come out here and obviously see you boys and hopefully England go far in this tournament And Terry, the last caller was really quite optimistic and bullish about England's chances. Wh whereere are you? I mean, you know, before the tournament, I always think England have a chance of winning tournaments. People might think I'm stupid for saying that. But when it gets to knockout football, England are capable of beating Spain, England are capable of beating France, England are capable beating Brazil and Argentinea in one off games, aren't they? Yeah, I think you're right, Chris. I think England on the day have got a chance to be beating anyone. As again, you know, we had our chances in the Euros. Once I get out there, I think once the momentum goes, once the the teams start performing and start playing, you know get used to the climate and the conditions We've got a good chance of any of the big hitters in Europe, whether that be Spain or France, etcetera you know, if you asked me a couple of weeks ago, I was sort of thinking, you know last sixteen, but you know, as you get closer and closer to the tournament and as you said, you watch the watchatch the team get used to the climate? you know you've always got a chance to go go deep into a tournament I think a bit like we did in previous tournaments, we may have a situation if we win the group We may then have to play some of the big hites early in the tournament, but then if you're going to win the World Cup, you've got to be the best sidize anyway Yeah, I was just looking at that actually Adam. So if England win the group, they would play one of the third place teams in Atlanta on July the first. I know I know fans of other nations get really annoyed about England, England fans making plans if this happens if that happens then if they won that, that would probably be the Mexico game in Mexico City, which we've just been talking about. And then it gets tricky after I mean you'd think it would get tricky. You're looking at the likes of Brazil, Argenta, Portugal. But about Eland finished second? Eactly you got that m? How much? Do you want it? Do you want it? good Toronto, I think Yeah. D in Toronto, I think it is Yeah, if England a runner up in the group, they play a runner up from group K, which is the Portugal Colombia DR Congo Uzbekistan group. If you won that you potentially meet Spain in the last sixteen. But listen, what about third place? I've not done that. That's a bit too complicated. It's too complicated. Oh there we go I't done it. Well, yeah, as a fan, you need to have a little think about it because obviously I've got you the ticket for the fourth game last thirty two. So What I've done as I've based myself in North Charlotte, which is sort of equal distance between of Oonte, Kansas and Atlanta So then potentially I don't think we'll be going to Kansas. if we can't come first or second in this group, then you know we don't deserve to win it. But yeah, you've got you've got to cover all the bases What's Adam, what are you most looking forward to about getting out here? What's the best thing about watching England abroad in m tournaments Yeah, so I've been quite fortunate. I went to South Africa. I was out there for three weeks. Obviously we didn't the whole tournament we didn't do very well. and actually watched the last two group games and the last sixteen game then. For me, I read a lot of American fiction and I'm just really, really keen to go out to America, explore it, you know and getting excited now listening to you guys and Rick Edwards on his podadcast about the tournament, traveling around and you know it's all about I see football as an opportunity to to travel different places you don't normally go to and use it as a reason to go to places you wouldn't go normally. So really excited to get out there. It going be in New York, or or New Jersey, going to go to Boston. So yeah, just see some of these cities you read about and hear about on the news regularly. Do you know a guy from from Suffolk founded? Boston are R from Wer? Suffolk, Suffolk. Bruce's County. Suffolk. Great County.reat people. Yeah. And the guy who founded Toronto, Major John Simcoo, he's from Exeter. Devs What about that? Adam That is why I love traveveling with Chris. So into the history. You checked in knowledge Unbelievable. You checked in, didn't you to the hotel here yesterday and the first thing you said to the receptionist was, who is the most famous person? come from Houston. Yeah, let's put that out there. Okay. Let's put that out to the listeners. do you want to have a guess the most famous person people from? Well the most famous person from Houston has still because they've got no one in many If I was quicker, I'd be on Google looking, I'm sorry, Chris, but no I can't recommend anyone from Houston Sh we shouldhould we leave it until after the news? People can sort of have a think about it. Texas eight five hundred five I mean, it's debatable, isn't it? Because there are we discussed it last night. There are some big hitters stars Not I mean, not just sort of local hitters. we're talking world young stars here Alare Beyon, Beyonce That's. How Google d is. Very good, very good. Adam, have a great trip out here. ennjoy the football. Thank you very much for calling six hundred six. The number to dial iszero eight zero eight five nine hundred nine six nine three. H's another one evening six hundred six Oh this is naughty. It's conceivable Scotland could effectively be out of the World Cup before England. E kick off that's from Simon I mean, come on Sim. you' better. Yeah the point Simon is making is, as you said, Chris, the Haiti game feels so important because Morocco and Brazil are also in group. but that's a little jab, isn't it? It's a little unnecessary He' being a little bit mischievous with that. And then we've got we've got some texts in about people from Houston. Yeah. I don't want to give any more than that. Your favorite film was in dirty dancing Mace. Yeah. Yeah. I think people will get that one now. Anyway, let's get back to the calls. Number the dialar is zer eight zero eight five ninezero nine six nine three, Keep the texts coming in on eight fivezero five eight, taking the calls for the next fifty minutes or so Alie has been waiting a while. Alie, Scotland fan, great name. teeen What do you think then Alie? What do you think about Scotland's chances in the World Cup? Can they get out of the group stages at a major tournament first time ever Good evening, Alli, goodood evening Christian canan they? Yeah, maybe, but I've I have been here before. I'm old enough to You know, one of the first World Cups I remember was nineteen seventy eight when I would have been eleven years old And Ily so many people get Yeah it was indeed. Yeahah I could I bought the single and I could recite every word if I wasn't too embarrassed to shame myself by that. really All Alli Ali, tell us tellell us some of the players who played in ' seventy eight. For Scotland. we had. pain me. Arch again move very famously We had Gordon McQueen, we had Joe Jordan, we had John Robertson, I think we had oh Derek Johnson, Willy Johnson, who we don't like to talk about U Is this a quiz It was elevant squad we had in seventy eight I do think though maybe in terms of experience and quality and sheer class, the squad we've got this year probably is the first one to really match it particularly in midfield. one of the reasons I'm cautiousullly optimistic if we put it that way going in tonight as I think I would put our midfield of McTominay, McGin and Lewis Ferguson up against any in the top six. you know, it's a phenomenally good midfield And if we can get that functioning as it's capable of thenen yeah, then there's a lot of reasons to be to be hopeful that could go well I mean you're I mean, am I right I saying you're saying you' put the Scotland midfield up there with the you're saying the top six so say you put it up there with the Portuguese midfield they got Vatinia and Nvez and Bruno Fernandez. you think that Scotland have got a midfield to ase I think they don't match anybody I think if that midfield from Portugal was coming up against McTomy, Mcgan and Lizz Ferguson, and also you can add Ryan and Christie and whoever else might be around about them, the read Ben Ganond Dor, who I'm very excited about. and all of that together, I think that that Portuguese midfield would be worried about going on to the pitch. They would they would take us very very seriously indeed. you know, we might be you know slightly behind in terms of the ratings or the players, but you know, you've got Yeahah, you get players there that have been you know McDomine Ballandor nominee McGinn just won the UFR cup, whatever they call it these days. and Louis Ferguson, you know widely acclaimed by people who know the most talented of all of them I mean a lot of good players around. so yeah, they could more than hold their own What's your plan, Alie for watching listening to the game tonight becausecause we had Joyce on earlier who gave us a call. She was going to get a couple of hours kipp in and then get up and watch the game. Are you pushing on through from here I'm afraid so. yeah. I'm glad to have a few minutes taken out by talking to you because I'm basically just pacing pacing the room for long at I will I'm actually really looking forward to the Brazil Morocco game. giv us some sense of what we're coming up against, but I think just on football in terms, that's going to be one of the best given for the tournaments. U And that'll get me through most of it and I'm working really hard at not starting drinking just yet because it's a long night. Yeah you got you can have to pace yourself. Yeah. you don't have a few and then and then nod off before kickoff and miss it give us a score prediction Allied I think we will win too nil tonight That would that would be if Scotland did do that it would be brilliant just, you know, just ticking that box off to a flyer and then really to two bites of the ch. I mean three points may be enough anyway. That's it Chr who know Yeah because those best third place teams is eight of them from the twelve groups will go through three points maybe enough. had a little look actually at the last two eos and there were a few countries that didn't get through on three points on goal difference, but you would be unlucky. So have you got the Scotland passage? No We did the England Hang on Be I mean because of your Scottish roots and it's a little bit disappointed. Hang on, have I have let' have a look, let's have a look if Scotland U I thought I did that earlier on got it I got I got it. If Scotland win the group, right? They will play the runners up in group F. So that is Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Chunisia and that game would be in Houston here on Monday, the twenty ninth of June. If Scotland finish a runner up in the group, they would play the winner of group F same group they would go to Guadaloupe M Mexico Mexico. And third, third place. Well, no because it's too complicated, Chris, because in third place you could go anywhere. there's about eight different eight million different possibilities on that. So I think that's good enough. Ali, thank you very much for the call. Enjoy the game tonight Thank you very much. That was. That was Al. Yeahah, Thankks Al. Number dial lowo eight zero eight five n zer nine six nine three. My little word of caution I'm going to strike Chris and you've already said this Haiti, Scotland have come unstuck. You know, I think a lot of people might be underestimating. I don't think Ali was but underestimating Haiti a little bit. and you go back in Scotland's World Cup history and we were talking about that great team in nineteen seventy eight, their opening game, they lost to Peru World Cup. No one expected that. nineteen ninety Italia ninety Scotland lost to Costa Rica. Scotland fans will well know this And I think we'll go into the game tonight with a bit of trepidation they're playing well. But you know what? Steve Clark and I know Stehven Naysmith that, you know, one of his one of his assistants they you know, they are brilliantly prepared. They'll know the danger of Haiti. I'm going to call them Haiti, not Haiti. they'll know their danger as well, but and realize the magnitude of this game, but it would be brilliant if Scotland Got off to a flyer. I probably shouldn't read this one out. Do you want to read can you see that one? What this one here with the lad? Yeah. The lad I went to school with once had a holiday near Houston. That's all I've got. That's David B ABB fan Chris is okay. Wow. Well your friends messaging in. He could do a bit better than that, Couldn't he, David? And Paul in T Ls met ABB in Berlin during a breakfast appearance with Rick I remember that with Rick Julieen Leureon Anthony Gordon's bicycle accident in full likero Lama garb. Wes Anderson is Houston's most famous son And Rushmore was filmed at his high school there since John's school. Neil Armstrong is from Ohio we'd established that where I was born So that's from Pauling. Anderson. and I' think it West Craven You looking now very quickly Film director F filmirector fmirector Anderson. Yes Yes. fil. Great films, Chris, greatreat films. Yeah, I wouldn't want to jump in there and just you know, take them away from our listeners. Our listeners can probably message in and give us those. eight five ninezero nine six nine three is the number to dial. Neil has done just that. He's been waiting a while. Neil is an England fan. Neil are you getting out here to the states to Mexico to watch some football I'm most certainly going out of the states, but not to Mexico, Unfortunately. Okay. Okay What's your plan then? What's your plan So the plan is we leave next Saturday. There's five of us, my son. James, Mattty, Alice and Adam So we're off to New York, flight to New York couple of days in New York, probably taking a Yankees game on the Sunday so could about that on the Sunday And then on the Monday we're off up to Boston also ready for game two against Ghana I in Folxborough And then back to New York And then we may just take a little excursion down to Philadelphia. to take in Irico's Curaco But only if the dynamic pricing works in our favour, we're not that bothered about the game, to be fair And then back to New York for the third group game against Panama in the Met Lve Stadium in New Jersey I mean, it sounds like this has all taken a lot of planning And when when when did you when did you start making plans? Be there's a fair few of you, isn't it five, you say? Yeah be fair, and to be fair to my son and the rest of the guys, they'd be most glred at the legwork, to be fair. But literally, as the draw was being made in December, we were booking flights. I was in the pub at the time And they were booking flights literally in the pub as the draw was being made, we knew we were playing and that was what we did and we booked the flights there and then And whatip What what's your feeling on England? Are you is there's a lot of optimistic English fans out there. I understand why what's What's your feeling Well, you've got to be reasonably sort of confident in terms of the squad that we've got. And as someone said earlier on, If we can't get out this group, then that would be pretty poor, to be fair And then once you go through into the knockout stages, you know, again We've gone deep in the competitions for the last few times, obviously two Euros fininals a quarter final semif fin the last two World Cups respectively. And again, when you get that deep in a tournament, you know We have got the quality, but sometimes you know as you know, it's There's a bit of look involved in terms of what happens you know at that stage in the tournament. but As you say you' got a bin it to win it, you know just keep going keep going deep in the tournament. And I think that experience that there are some players, not all the players clearly that have been around the squad and have had that experience of been you know, going de going to the final. We were out in Berlin two years ago watching the final, which was disappointing at the end, obviously But again, it's It's just that being there and getting there and getting over the line and You know, you just got to hope one day, one day, one day we can do it Is there anything which worries you about the England team? I mean, are you one of those peopleople have talked about Well Harry Kane, the reliance on him if he, you know, gets dehydrated a little bit of cramp has to come off, you know after twenty five minutes. Are you worried about his replacements or Where are you on that He's clearly a pivotal player in the whole England setup and he's And clearly the goals are massively important for England you know, so he's what it seenty nine, He scored it Its seventy nine' against New Zealand I think you've probably disappointed it came off against Costa Rica because it' almost certainly you've been takingen up a penalty that Anthony Gordon took on the on Wednesday. But yeah it' important, but there are other players. you know, we have got goals in this side But clearly it is a key figure in that side. I mean, what is it now? It's some sixty plus goldals he's got for you know for his club and country this season, which is' ridiculous isn't it? Those numbers are just. O off the off the chart really. But what you've got also is know what I'm looking forward to as an Nland Forest supportorter is watching Elliot Anderson shine in the World Cup because he is an Absolute gem of the player Yeah looks like it looks like we're going to lose him at Forest. It looks like he's going to be off to J just a city were What do you think? Well if they do, it's going take a very, very large fe to take him away from Nottingham forest. but either way, you know, watch it's been an absolute privilege watching him play for Nottinggham Forest over the last couple of years. And again, I watched him on his debut at Villa Park against Senegal. and literally from the minute one it's like I know not some Senegal a Beor Paron against Andora And he just looked for a minute one, albeit opposition taken into account. It just looked like he'd been there for a very, very long time and he felt at home. He always wants the ball, always wants, always available and always got a progressive pass you going forward. Neil. Thankk you very much for the call. N d Dial iso eight five ninezero nine six nine three enjoy the football out here, Neil. No, I was trying to think whether there were any player puns. The only one I can think of though but it's Golf Agel Cabrei, the Argentine is El Pato and that is the duck. It's a Spanish because he waddles a bit like a duck. he was a duck enjoying life. Yeah. I mean I loved it Chris? Very good. Right. Whatere about baffled? we did but what's baffled you, Chris?ess I've just s of one, I've got two actually. R. Did you see the picture of the England players doing a bit of head tennis in the pool and M Marcus Rashford? a head? that baffled me. But another thing baffled me, I was at Mexico airport yesterday and our producer George, George Cummins' having a little bit of a romance with on Yoggan cllock. No I mean unbelievable. He went in for a big hug. I know George' who did. George went in for a big hug and Yoggen gave him a big bear hug. I mean, wow. It was it was unbelievable. George has interviewed him over the years And there's a bit of mutual respect, but I didn't see that coming. They were like Tom Cruz and David Bckam at the US game. I mean just just an incredible romance. Yeah. Big names, big hugs, bigig embrace. Unb belieieve. George has grilled him down the ears and now they're hugging in airports. Okay. that's that's baffled. We've had two baffled there because we've had Marcus Rashford's ha as well. give us a call on that. Bugged U Well, I mentioned the opening game Mexico played well, but South Africa you've waited sixteen years South Africa twenty ten host of the World Cup and you get your chance to perform on the big stage once again and under Hugo Bros they were just dross weren't they They didn't turn up. Sadly Scotland without Bill Bills Bill Yeah Yeah. And we had Chris Wadle, but also in that nineteen ninety World Cup squad for England, Neil Webb Feet Those are weak actually. do you like those?ice? Do you like those? Right. Anything else, anything else that' caught your eye, go on J just in Scotland it's not about the World Cup reported from Stehen McGowan who's a journalist for the for the herald. he doesn't get many things wrong right. He was the first one to report Martin O'Neil was going to get the Celtic job once again. I mean, you know, many people thought it would happen. He reported it talking about Hart's compens compensation package revealed as rangers close in on McKinness. So Derek McKinnness from Hearts to Rangers as you know, it's been reported, respected. journalist Stepven McGowan. I mean, How would How would Harts fans feel about that and Rangers talk to Danny Roll to to Rb Salzburg. Shankland already. Shank Gone. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Okay Okay eight zero eight five nine zero nine six nine three prodroucer George Jurgen Klops Best Pal, newew Best Pal also passed me a note Arbaowower being linked at the Fulham job with obviously Marco Silver. I mean look. So he's just lost his job, hasn't he? realal Madrid? Yeah I mean If youre full him Are you really excited about Harbolo? That's a bit of an un in realal Madrids manager. I' just been sacked. But they all get sacked.'s isn't it Its Fill's here from Fullam fans Yeah, yeah ye Yeahah yeah yeah, Harts fans, Rangers fans as well. Paul's a Scotland fan. I think Paul's calling to chat World Cup. evening Paul even, even class. Good to talk pase. Hey yeah, yeah. I've did quite a bit of enj just one I'm quite happy Danel know maybe going to Salthburg I can It was a bit rsue mentality bon but like like come on. so I'd be delighted to be we getting my finhing with Squts football inside out. you know that. and more excitement. so Well but it's a place for Celtic Cheso. if you know the reports good up Celtic underball and hardball and Sean Maloney and I got pty purthty bonus But what the guys did to be Martine Neil and that's the way you treat them. But Anyway, not don't we youuse that or not Yeah no I saw reported maybe something's going on in the background. I mean seems to be the way that Celtic are doing their business in the background and taking the time. So I'm sure something will happen with with Melan and fothering him but I mean, it's a fascinating summer really, isn't it for Scottish football and of course the national team playing this evening. what what are you thinking? There's this there's this great optimism I understand why there is Paul So do you, but the pressure is on tonight, isn't it And as if a beat Haiti, by just no means by the way, the No I don't know inside out but before I' reading articles I've got a lot of good play, quite physical. But listen Allt, you've got Steve Clark He he's managed West Brom in the Premier League to probably highest position ever. And is managed under Ost Marino You takaking this to two euros. Granted it went great when we got the adut Listen it'sroud to be involved.n's it a funny story. If you don' mind me scaring that As I remember I was fifteen years old, there was a World Cup ninety eight st to France, Scotland Brazil and my m get tickets for his mum. And for months ween all good tickets do you want to come? I said,h yeah, that's great And I'm sting National Radio. I bottled up Chris right. I got homstick and I said, No, I don't want to go I'm where my small do not. So I stayed there and I said My said D don't worry I said don't worry. I said,' get I' see go theame in the World Cu twenty eight years later so I just I can't believe it. So I'm delighted to know about it because and one thing I would say guys if it's all right. In you because you work in the media, but I wouldn't name the individual, but it was a certain commentary team that we were talking about Jon Magin Scotland in general, saying that Joh McGghamn is a pub player and And I think a comment' been about A okay Yeah, yeah, know yeah ye yeah, I know I know where you go. the comment was also made becoming quite floppy but that was too teams like Scotland. Now as just reminded National Radio all the finds and g breh. Sotland's wing grou So regardless of the World Cup being expanded, Scotland would have been there by its right. It beat teams like Denmark. so we got there well in merit by the way. So I just think people need to know that. And by the way, John McGgin, who comments to that on say thei school I've got none but respect for a guy. The guy's one a Eural. the captain ask him for and he's doing a great job doing my memory. So I just think look Scotland can do this. I'm proud to be Scotland, but listen If you're working theedia you've got to be factual based that, that's my opinion on Chris, you're a big advocate. he's gott his fo You always, you always in the Aave you told that about that mense? Yeah, no, I think a lot of what you, you know, you said, if not everything I'd you know, I'd pretty much agree with. I mean Bruce mentioned earlier about the possibility of McGginn not starting, but I don't know where you are Paul on that. That's not going to happen is immagine the uppw if if John Mcgan didn't start the game Oh, definitely. not. I've Joh I didn't playing notes of Mc Tomy But listen, I don't think we should be afraid because we've got great attack in play mean know I to back at the game against Denmark. It's one of the best games I've ever worked This be Scotland. and we've got an attacking fl. It defense to be bit roate times, but listen, two PCsason games and how many goes could to score eight, I think. so In England, I don't think England have been great in a pre season. I still think they make go far, rightough because I promed to Cle seem to be quite a, he's an astent manager and whatnot, but I think I think Scotland can I think I'd be delighted to Scotland Pete Haiti We maybe in adrro against Morocco I can't wait the ent to play Bissil. went on to lose. The only thing I do worry about nobody flip it You can tell me from mom here two top teams qualify automatically and I think it's the best tw qualifyrect Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised. where it's more difficult not to qualify gotten to master by a goal That would be the typical Scottish way, but I'm hoping we bre that look and we do qualify but Do you guys think Scotland double do it to next r I think Scotland will get four points you know, I think Scotland will will get a draw against Brazil or Morocco. I think they're brilliantly organized. I also think Scotland have will have different ways of playing under Steve Clark. that will be interesting. I mean, there's talk about him, you know, they may be wanting an extra body in midfield U tonight against Hateper I mean, I think it' to be brave with that and, you know I think he will be, but then against Morocco and Brazil, I'm sure he'll try and shore up that midfield area G big got funast Yeah No exactly tonight. Yeah Yeah. And I think there'd be I mean he would come in for heavy criticism if he went you know, that extra midfield and people would view that. as as being slightly negative. Just going back to your story, Paul, G story. I mean, in the end you've been proven right though, haven't you? because Scotland have gotten to another World Cup. I don know I just I'm got do you want us just I may don't to be there Well I'm not there want to be over there, but I think it's it's about time twenty eight year too long. Yeah and he's quite bans. They've got l'ing for the best well renowned band and I ten you just I want to go with to media where the Scottish fans over in Boston dancing the police officers that f me I thought I about the camera Idate about summer the summer type of football is amazing A least I You're right, Paul. Thank you so much for the call. Enjoy the game tonight. It is so exciting to have Scotland back at the World Cup full commentary five live, two AM UK time, Haiti against Scotland, Alista Lamont and Pat Nevin with your commentary there. And before that, eleven o'clock kickoff UK time, Ian Dennis and Deon Dublin with Brazil against Morocco live from New York. And before that at eight o'clock, so that's not too far away Qatar against Switzerland, which is wonder call, isn't it which is being played in San Francisco. We are going to be doing a World Cup simulation game, Chris. We're going to do that in a second. So you know, even though it's the majorournent we're going to be hotter than ever on the divers. We're not having it. Yeah. We're not having it. You know, it doesn't matter, you know the biggest tournament the world. Yeah. If you dive, if you throw yourself to the ground, we will hunt you down or we will call you out Yeah Yeah, yeah. But before that, we're going to speak to David. David's an England fan and just by what I've read on my screen here, David, you don't sound massively optimistic about how England might go in this tournament. They start on Wednesday against Croatia. Yeah, hello Can you hear me Yeah,. Yeah, had a had a Yeah, what I want used to say is team that will win the World Cup be the team that plays with a consistent sty of playing Last night we saw Canada and Azegolina. And what you saw with Canada was a team that was playing in a consistent slow The moment the ball is with the opposition, there's intense pressure on the ball. They've got pling man for man in midfield and the defense is pretty well forward lost Yeah. he's gone So so I think David David wasn't suggesting that Canada could win the World Cup. I don't know whether he was having a little pop at Thomas Tkele there in England. I may be wrong. Call back David, but ye you know the thing about was he talking about consistent style of play and you know the players understanding their role andk responsibility within that framework. But yeah, call back, David because were you having a pop at England? wereere you riding England off? Yeah. But I think that's quite interesting Chris because I would say going into this tournament, I mean, we're talking about potential selection issues either or with you know, Gay He Gordon or Rashford Bellingamore Rogers But actually we do have a very clear idea, I think, of how England are going to go about it in this tournament under Thomas I. Well yeah, then as I say, we want David to call back for. I actually think that, you know, just talking about Scotland having different ways of playing. I think you have to be adaptable, especially in these conditions Right. So David, give us a call back eight zero eight five nine zer nine six nine three ten minutes left of sixzo six then it's the build upp to atar, Switzerland full commentary from eight o'clock. You're looking forward to that. We got to get some lunch in and some Germany Curusu prepping as well and watch three games of football So there's a lot to do. There's a lot to do. Let's do the simulation game. It is time to name and shame those divers. Regrettably, I've got to say they've already been some. at this World Cup. Chris is on the lookout as ever, it is time the simulation gate Right. No, he wasn't came across and they see they came together. he's saying clearly, it was a shoulder to shoulder challenge. and even though Him andas is stand on the ground me. there as he came across Ember Carson. I mean, Raol Himanoos has gone down quite dramatically A trying to get wideer Rem goes down in stages Amyon R wags his finger to the referees say I didn't touch him, but it's a yellow car for the big defender and a free kick here for Paraguay. There's nothing there's absolutely no contact at all. Amon was rolling and writhing and yelping as he went down The referee' blowning hisist he's cupping his hand to his ear and he's taking instruction here either from his system or the VAR. We're seeing it here on the little TV, saying a VR check for mistaken identity. This is totally baffling. He's going to see the screen. Camera l's listen, this is the referee. clear visible No contact simulation by aacker butterfly, yellow card freaking. He's realised it was a dive by Almiron. and justice is done? Yeah, it's absolutely the right decision because we said it didn't we? we said there's no contact there. Yeah, it's correctly overturned. Almon should look at himself because the way went down griping any outples That's really unseemening. It doesn't help anyone I love that Chris. So you get c called that out in front of the whole stadium by the referee. Yeah and that's that's the way it should be as ridiculous from Raal Himanz as well, but from from Mexico, not the Meico Meico which which we wanted to see but the winner of this this week's simulation game. Yeah, Al Moron as Jonathan Pierce said, he was rolling He was writhing, he was yelping. wasasn't he? I mean, he's better than. He's a good player, isn't he? But doing that. I mean, in front of the world, the world saw it, you were called out. It doesn't matter who you are. doesn't matter how big a star you are. If you throw yourself to the ground in this World Cup, whether it's in Canada, whether it's in the USA or whether it's in Mexico, we will just call you out We will call you out and we will get you. You better than that. Miguel Almmeron first winner of the simulation game on six hundred six this World Cup. couple more calls to get in before we hand it back to Aaron Paul Aaron by the way, who willll be doing some of the six hundred six shows during the tournament this summer alongside David James, Chris and I back in action. I think next weekend, Chris taking the callaturday So where are we Where are you don't know It's either going we in Dallas? Dallas. I think we're Dallas Oh Oh that'sciting isn't it? Never been to Dallas a Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. let's get Russell on. Russell's called six hundredo six tonight. The number to dial as always zero eight zero eight five n zer nine six nine three. and Rusll, you're going to lob a name in here in England midfielder. We've not even mentioned on the show yet this evening said go on, go on, giveive us. Yeah, a massive call out for Eberichi Eze to start. No expert that I've heard or read about have He mentioned him in the starting lineup I think he's the most creative, inventive, whatever you want to call it player in the England squad think that he say the conditions that we're likely to play in. I think you can slow the game up, I think and accelerate the game I think it's more controlled is brilliant Passing is excellent like the pass he put through to Morgan Rogers the other evening. which should have been put away. I know it was only Costa Rica But we weren't looking too great until he came on. He Five shots, one resulted in the penalty you know, as I said, he put that that through ball through to Morgan Rogers So just tell me why guy isn't being mentioned Do know what I actually think you make a pretty good case for Ezza, but there would be I think the majority of people in the country would say, well, Would you have them ahead of Bellingham? Would you have him ahead of Rogers based on performances this season Has he has he has he played regularly for Arsenal, which he, you know, hasn't done all the time. But I do agree with you in terms of his talent and what he has to offer. But isn't that isn't it brilliant for Thomas Tukell that he has that array of options? Can I just say that our Tetter, in my view the guy up, stitched asay up because he's tried him in a numerous positions which hasn't worked f E. Cryal palace he had a most glorious season. But then Crystal Palace were a counter attack team. also a Tibppy Tappy team and he just didn't sit in So therefore, I think Tuor might Having seen the other evening might have talked to Eay and said you can have a roaming role. and, you know, play to your to the the extent of your creativity And In that regard, I think the guy is to my mind, he should start. Bellingham is a red card waiting to happen, that will never happen to would trip over his own shadow H Okaykay. All right. well we'll watch out for that Russell. Thank you for the call. last caller on World Cup six hundred six tonight firstirst of the tournament is Keith. Another England fan. Keith, do you like the look of the the England squad? who Thomas Tuchles picked how he's going to line it up? This is what I'm ringing around. I've been dying to ring six or six since Mr. Totle an MC squad, which I haven't in the main, I haven't got a problem with I at six hundred six is There's been a lot of six sucesses, Keith since he picked the sc. I will be amazed. If a team with a right footed left back wins the Wor Cup We have a problem on that left hand side. We' no attacking wth at all Louis Hall must be watching those games the warm up match is shaking his head. wondering why he's not being picked G' been the best l back in the Premier League this season. He had Lamin Yamal in his pocket when Yamal played at Stain. James's Park with Larcelona Yeah, I agree with you on Lewis Hall and the quality and the balance which he which he gives well any team, whether it's England or Newcastle. But I think that Bruce just said you got Nico O'Rilly, who's a left footed left back. I think you're talking about Jed Spence when he plays there, aren't you? No, I'm talking about Jed Spence and Lver meant to uplad left back against Costa Rica doesn't even play a left back the Newcastle well he has he has done at times. But I think I think we can only we have to be fair to Thomas Duchal. And I get your point about if England do play right foot and left back about the lack of balance they would be on that side Well, we've got but we can we yeah, but we're talking about two to friendly games, to, you know, practice games I think I think your call is very valid if Thomas Toule starts a right footed left back against Croatia, then I think you have a point Well I think you' a better player than the Lutrom City, to be honest with you If I if I would have in Lewis Hall when Mr. Toul rang me and said, I'm sorry Louis, you're not in my squad America I just said to him I respect your decision, Mr. Toule, but I think ultimately you'll be proved wrong it'll cost us That's what it work it Okay Keith it's a good point. It's a strong point interesteresting want to finish the shot. There has been some good right footed left backs over the years Yeah Dennis Irwin is Irish. You just said we didn't say English.
