Welcome to Night five Mac Daily for Friday, july third, twenty twenty six. I'm your host, Chance Miller. We are sponsored this week by Back Blaze Leading off today, Tim Cook reportedly this week held constructive talks with EU regulators over the availability of Siri AI and new Apple intelligence features in the European Union. The backstory here is that during WWDC, Apple announced that Siri AI would not launch in the EU alongside IOS twenty seven and iPadOS twenty seven due to the Digital Markets Act People said that EU regulators did not accept any of its proposed solutions to bring Siri AI to the EU while safely supporting other virtual assistance Apple's proposed solution was called Trusted System Agent, which the company described as an intermediary that would allow virtual assistance to safely access the same features and capabilities as Siri AI in the European Union Aeppople said it proposed an eighteen month transition period that would allow Siri AI to launch while the company gradually rolled out trusted System agent but claimed the European Commission rejected the plan Now, as reported by the Financial Times, Tim Cook this week held a virtual meeting with European Commission regulators to address this impasse over Siri AI An EU spokesperson said the virtual meeting involved a constructive exchange on topics of common interest on which the work continues The meeting included a discussion about how Apple can launch Siri AI in Europe while avoiding fines under the Digital Markets Act The report did not indicate how much progress has been made in these talks between Apple and the European Commission It does at least signal that the talks are ongoing and that Apple is committed to at least trying to find a way to launch Siri AI in the European Union In other News todayay, Apple has acquired a variety of different apps recently, and the latest is called Pay which won the twenty twenty five Apple Design Award in the innovation category Due to the Digital Markets Act in the European Union, Apple is now required to disclose acquisitions above a certain size to the European Commission Th those acquisitions are then publicized on the European Commission website The latest edition is an acquisition for Rabbit three Times company that does business as play From the listing, Apple says that it will acquire certain assets and have the right to offer employment and to hire certain employees of the company Apple describes play as a sophisticated, yet accessible tool that lets users build interactive prototypes with Swift UI frameworks Apple says it has a thoughtfully crafted user interface that is both powerful and easy to navigate and helps designers create interactive prototypes and collaborate across Mac and iPhone all synced in real time for seamless creativity. Apple says the acquisition was completed back in February and at that time the play app was removed from the apppp store As is almost always the case with these types of acquisitions, it's unclear what exactly will happen next for Play and its developers Perhaps Apple will integrate these features into X code or relaunch Pay altogether as a standalone application But either way, it's likely that we'll see these tools from play added to Apple's free developer resources at some point in the future We are sponsored this week by Back Blaze. P, of course, disagrees and says the injunction didn't prevent it from instituting new fees on external purchases. And now the Supreme Court will hear its appeal.
