New Messages features, watchOS 27 support — Jun 24, 2026 — starts at 0:00
Welcome to N five Mac Daily for Wednesday, june twenty fourth, twenty twenty six I'm your host, Chance Miller We are sponsored this week by Robo Rock. Leading off today, we talked yesterday about some of the changes in IOS twenty seven beta two But now one more big upgrade has been discovered As it turns out, IOS twenty seven Ba two includes some welcome new features for RCS conversations in the messages app We've talked before about the Messages app benefiting from a variety of new features in IOS twenty seven, like AI suggestions and smarter smart replies. these new updates to RCS might be the best upgrades First, IOS twenty seven beta two adds support for inline replies for iPhone and Android RCS messages So in an RCS thread in the messages app, you can now long press and reply directly to a specific message from another person This is exactly how it's worked on iMessage for years IOS twenty seven beta two also adds proper support for tap back reactions for RCS messages. So now if someone long presses and reacts to a message that notification will be displayed properly across Android and iPhone with RCS These changes are part of the RCS two point seven standard whichich means there may be even more improvements coming in IOS twenty seven RCS two point seven includes other new features that are not yet implemented in IOS twenty seven including the ability to edit and unsend messages These are, of course, features already supported for iMessage conversations, so hopefully Apple is also working at bringing these features to RCS for iPhone and Android messaging Next up today, the wait for a new Apple TV four K has been longer than expected But a new report from Bloomberg indicates it might finally be on track for a launch this fall with three new features Bloomberg says that the new Apple TV, as well as an update to the HomePod Mini, are both in advanced testing inside Apple The expectation is that they will launch this year When the new Apple TV in particular does arrive, it's expected to include three changes port for Siri AI stated remote other various Apple intelligence features Siri AI wasn't mentioned at all for TVOS twenty seven during WWDC And that's likely because it will require the new hardware of this upcoming Apple TV to be supported The hardware inside the current Apple TV isn't powerful enough to run the Siri AI models The same also applies to the HomePod and HomePod Mi, which were not given any Siri AI story as part of WWDC Again, likely because Apple needs new hardware to bring the features to that platform So if all goes according to plan and that's a big if, we should be getting a new HomePod mini and a new Apple TV later this year, with proper support for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI sponsored this week by Robaock If you're looking to upgrade your cleaning routine for prime dayay, now is a great time. Roborock is offering limited time deals across its lineup of robot vacuums and wet dry vacuums with savings of up to one thousand five hundred dollars. In an interview with Tech Radar hate Duleie Apple Watch and Health Product Marketing mananager at Apple offered some more context on these watchOS compatibility changes According to Duley, the decision to drop those models stemmed from a goal of ensuring that users have the best experience with their device, no matter which Apple Watch model they're using Stie said,Qote, With every software release across every single one of our platforms, we always want to ensure that you have the best experience So we make power and performance a priority The great new features in WOS, including the capabilities of Siri AI and the new tap gesture. best with the processing power that's in Apple Watch Series nine, Ultra two, and later. endnd quote Dooie also emphasized that older Apple Watch models can still be paired with iPhones that are running the latest software. and they will continue to receive security updates So for example, if you have an Apple Watch sereries eight that's not supported by watch OS twenty seven, You can still pair it to your iPhone that's running iOS twenty seven. There is no sort of incompatibility between those devices. Still, Apple Watch users have expressed frustration that Apple is dropping so many devices from W US support this year ahead of the update being released to everybody this fall That wraps up another episode of Night to fiveive Mac Daily As always, you can find all of the latest Apple news on ny five Mac. com Follow along with me on threads at Chance H Miller.
