Gessing is a complicated profession, which is why we're here to discuss M mall, shhadow Lord. Currently airing on Disney pllus. My name is Dan Moore and I'm joined as always by my co host, Tony Sinalarars is here, Hi, Tony I'm also here Benish is also also here, Hi cat. Hello. You always seem a little upset that I'm here. Great to be here. In our preach chat this time, we discovered that I love olives and Tony and Dan hate olives So listeners Please write in into your opinion about all of this. Why are you involving the listeners? Because you told me to stop doing ethical dilemmas. Okay. I don't think you okay. This is a spir thing happening here. You do have a tendency when there is some kind of conflict between people in your life, you know, you believe somebody else believes be and you're like, let me go and poll is who wants to be a millionaire. you can't all the audience. I'm just gonna to say as someone who's known you for over a decade, you do have a tendency to do selective polling and go until that you reach a majority of people that are ave what you have stated agreement with your belief and then you immediately stop So I'm just saying M. What's your point? I I don't have a point. I'm just saying I've observed your methods, such as they are Uh We okay, so we u Do you wantan to start with an apology, Dan? As I usually open most conversations. We recorded our last episode a while back. have Steve As, What are you apologizing for I'm doing an apology tour. I've done something terrible. No, it's that I didn't record a podcast because we were traveling. So we are behind a little bit and we are going to attempt to cover four episodes of Maul. Yes, that's right. Episode four is something different. Yes Beginning with chapter five. inquisition Um How Shall we do this Let's go for speed over accuracy. I it was not exact exactly what I was going for, but okay. You asked my I did I did watch this episode twice. I even took notes. I would nomin Tony. Tony, you're up All right. I'm really just like the deathbird U Episode five, This is all about the Epire is arriving on Janx Things are going bad for basically all of the different groups we've been following Lawsuds boss gets disappeared. There's a jerk imperial guy named Lieutenant Blake who looks like he was probably vice president of his turning point chapter in college accurate. And he's not the worst one because there's also an inquisitor specifically Marak who is a character we've seen in live action much later in Star Wars, which is always one of those things where you have to pause and be like, when have I seen this person before? Was it live action? Was it cartoon? Was it before the? Did we know was coming back? Because we spent so much time talking about who was Moroccoan and what doing And then he didn't come backt he hasn't appeared yet. Well you time goes that way And I did look up and discover I think technically he we saw him briefly in the Tales of the Empire series where I think in the where where the inquisitors hang out when Baris becomes an inquisitor hang out to the which mainly suggests that by the time we see him in U he's an Ohsoka in a live action role and he's no longer an inquisitor there. He's now just a mercenary. Yes. Mucher much Heins. We don't know what he is and like again, there' so a of and he's nothing. and I feeling it's amaz this is actually like I find this character so interesting. There was so much build up for him. He then just dies. I think be totally find the character interesting because you are falling into what we call The Boba Fet effect where there is actually nothing interesting about this character in your mind. Yeah no like the character itself being like he' composed of vapor. Iree Sly his character must be I agreree characters un interesteresting forgotten tell us. But what is interesting is how they're creating this character is like they did a lot of buildup. He turns out he's nothing. he's totally unimportant. He vaporizes And now they're going back and being like, oh, we're now going like make was important. It was important at one point. So now when you watch chronologically you go toakka it's going to have a big effect of like What? But who will do thatver? I just throw in an interesting tidbit. I did learn while doing a little bit of research on these episodes He is also technically, you know how all the inquisitors have like a title like seventh sister, third brother, etcetera. Yeah, I guess first brother. first brother. Yes.. So he is my theory a very early inquisitor whichich just means so like by the time he's in Ahsoka, is he like old but we don't know what kind of cure's be like twenty years. so yeah, we don't know anything about it Technically, this is still my recap. But maybe you your sith for so long that it like turns you into dust Maybe. Lbody else Yeah. U Oh, goingt hear a real Do the first brother sisters names, do they if your first brother are you Is that like a unique Identifier according to the lists I have found. Wh Please cite your sources? Reddit assembled from various Okay. So not Wikipedia Wikipedia didn't have a convenient list. So I found Reddit sources where people had put them all together based on things like different Lucas film published like reference books becausecause he's misidentified the other another character will appear later is misidentified as first Brother in one printing and then they fm corrected it. Evil Deathbird? Yes. Yeah who is evil Dathird's name eleventh brother And And for some reason Barack gets a name Yes, someome of them have names, some of them do not or you don't know their names. but the The numbers with only one exception, the numbers, I believe are unique There is a third both a third brother and a third sister, but I think one of them is only referenced in passing And so it So that might be it could be a continuity error where they just did not make that character. but otherwise it seems like So when one gets killed, it's not like everybody moves up her as far as we know. Have you just been watching one piece Tony? I know I know Dan has because I've watched him. Have you been watching not? Okay. Are there Are there Jedi in it? No, but there are assassins who are named like mister onene mister two and then but they do move up. When you kill them, you just promoted to being on or they have to like put out a memo to everybody like It's real annoying business cards. Yeah. Yeah They work with people at businesscards All right so we're two lines into the summar. Okay. Moroc is there, Lieutenant Blake is there and a million stormtroopers are there Our Jedi friends, Devin and Master Doci want to get off the planet, but it is not really able to do so Um And we get our first glimpse of Janx' public transit. There's a lot of like people walking around, people getting yelled at by things here Uh, and, uh Moroc is walking around doing spooky stuff. Theres I feel like there's an important scene where Moroc is at the warehouse where Maul fought the cops and he's like touching stuff and getting like force echoes out of itychometry. yes. Psychometry. Thank you for saying that word because I was not going to be able to say it correctly. You're such Lawson finally gets released from his interrogation and goes home to find bunch of TI in this house. But do we think I think he was released on purpose, knowing that he was going to lure the Jedi to him Maybe that is certainly what happens. I believe that is a recap of episode five Inquisition. Yeah, the only other thing in there that I'm just and I'm looking purely in the B me summary is that Riley Lawson's son calls his mom who we see for the first time And his mom is like, notot helpful. Yeah, your dad. What trouble is he into now? He should just listen to the empire. Yep, not She's on the cuscent. So she's like She's way in on the fascism. Yeah. you know, she's been red pilled so She She's listening some very questionable. So that's chapter five, chapter six Kight of the Hunted T which is basasically picks up exactly where we' left off with Docy Devin talking to Lawson and Riley about what's going on with them. They are immediately found by Barack. This episode is basically people running people run the entire time. The entire thing is basically a big chas scinge. Maul eventually shows up to help Devin when they're on they get separated on a train They fight Moroak, they basically ditch him by cutting the train apart Um And then they go to That was a good I think, we'll talk about you. I recall you being enjoying that battle scene very much. I think there's a lot of really good fight scenes in this. We also this is, I think where they go to Lawson's friend, Rina Sewell, who we saw earlier and basically try to get off world but the emmpire finds them there U And so yeah, that's how they get into that fight with Maul. Maul is still traraping after Devin trying to convince her that she should be his prntice Um I will say what I liked about this episode is that it's very claustrophobic I thought that fight in the apartment is really well choreographed it was interesting in that Morak is forced to essentially only use a single blade of his lightsaber because they're in a very small apartment and it's not really useful. So I thought that was kind of cool the way they showed them adapting to their surroundings. It's also just, I think, you know, and this is a function of animation, I think the fights are really well choreographed and well shot. Yeah and They're more interesting than soka by a lot. I compare this with a lot of live action stuff, which I think is not as well done to sort of cross the streams for a second. I've been watching Daredevil show, also on Disney plus. the fights there, I think are badly choreographed and badly shot. I don't I think I'm more neutral on the new daredevil, but the fight scenes like I just kind of too. I went back and rewatched There's just a lot happening in the dark. There's I also went back and rewatched some of the fight scenes from a couple clips of fight scenes from the original Netflix show of that and it was night and day, how much better those are shots? I think with live action, you got to be a lot lazier because you don't have to the people who are filming and the choreography can be separate, right? And when you're animating you have to do you have to actually think through and storyboard it all out. But they actually do storyboard and anime. Star Wars is all done with previs. So it's basically like they half animate it. Before they shoot it. Why was Ashsoka so bad? I think I don't know. The choreography was so boring. I mean, I guess that probably the limiting fact the limiting factor is humanity because they can only choreograph things that, you know, that stuff performers can actually do is animation the witcher or even again let's go back to one piece when they have like Zoro fighting a hundred like it's good choreography posossible to do good live action. Even part of the Caribbean had amazing footwork. I think some of it is just the imagination of fights in animation is just always going to be over the top. And and I have to say, you know, we've seen a lot of lightsaber fights in our in our Star Wars consumption tiny little show manages to do a bunch of kind of weird, interesting things we haven't seen before with like like young Jedi and a an elderly Jedi fighting Maul and Mul's got two then Maul has his double blades and then you know, Maul fightingouble blade the double blade. Yeah Maul fighting the Inquisitor and the and the Jedi Devin is there like, am I part of this fight or not? Yeah. L I also they also do they do there's a lot of property damage. Yeah I agree. They they do a lot of fun stuff. and I'm jumping to the last episode, right? but like I love when it's fun to see like two Jedi who know each other teaming up Um who aren't Anakin and enob but like when they're driving away quickly and Devin gives Decky the look and he jumps out and they basically say the speeder bike and ram L like that's cool. That's just really fun and cool and destructive. I mean, jumping ahead This show has a surprising amount of basically car chases. Yeah with good car chases already. Yeah. really And I was like, we're gonna do this again, but they keep It helps that They're short usually or at least they or they're in segments, right? Like it also we're doing this and now something else right there are speeder bikes chasing us. Now there's basically a you know, a drops shhip chaping us. now we're but like like I ride. Yes. and they totally work on like the rule of cool where it's like, you know, a force powerower can just do whatever you want you know and make something exciting happen. It also helps that the The surroundings are more claustrophobic, as we said with some of the fight scenes too like they're in a city, right? And they have to like, oh, there's different levels to the city. There's tunnels, there's bridges like all those things play part. Like I think I think back, you know, I love rebels, but like there's that one stretch of highway on L fall that I feel like every single chance is really just long straight highway. Or tattooing Yeah Yeah And Clone Wars just had those all those there were all these battlefields on Clone Wars that were just like a flat plane Yeah that I feel like was probably a representation of the limitation of animation. kind of capacities at the time But the environments were rarely. interesteresting in a way that like Here is this planet that we've never heard of and it's like, You know, we are going to make it feel different than Coruscan even though's a big Coruscan planet. But I think the closer saw the Colaran battles is when they're on that bridge, the Mandalorian bad guys against the stormtroopers and they're both like shooting each other not undercover and back and forth and no one's getting hit. like, That feels very clone Wars to me, but I' data Should we talk about it? I jump way ahead I'll have one last thing from that episode six, which is at the end Maroqu basically phoneess up our pal the emmperor eleventh P. No's I think it's I think it's eleventh of. Okay. I think it's the show But but they don't they show it Yeah, I don't know. There's a hologram. It's aw. Somebody with a cloak. Yeah. it's a cloak. I think it's the evil Kenku Okay, but they all right, Wikipedia has it as Maro contacts his master I think I think he is subservant I Saster is technically Darth Vader. and I don't think that was titledt That was the the argum we were having. likeike I think it's the I thought that was the em bird We don't know. He is I did watch that because I was like, whoo is he supposed to be talking to? And he is like kneeling So it is like 't It didn't have the feel of just calling up her coworkers. Yeah. I guess give them a quick update. Yeah. I thought it Palpatine and I was like, it' I agree it's definitely not Vader unless Vader's now into ropes and he's not yeah, chapter seven, callall to Olivion. One thing I will say on this last I have a whole list of things, we keep going. Um Sh I do this one? Tony, you want to it? Kat, you want to do it No, you don't, it's fine. I'll try next one So this one is takes up where we left off after the train. Maul takes Devin and Riley to his hideout U This is the bit you alluded to earlier on. they're going to, you know, fly off with the Starship, but they try Devin and Riley try to escape However, the emmpire arrives in that moment and there's this big fight on a bridge Um, Riley gets captured in an interesting moment where Devin basically chooses to run into the fray rather than staying back with him. She definitely has a moment to save Devin and to R right Riley. And I do think I was thinking a lot about this because I think Devin towards the end of this sort of arc seems a little more level headed. And I really think if Devin ends up not going to whatever side Darth Mall is on, it will be because of Riley's counterbalance And I think her failing to protect Riley in the role Riley has played and that she has had essentially not just be the pad of one, but have to look after someone else and realize the responsibility that and failing is like, I think has taught her and will be ultimately the reason that she doesn't turn to the Sith side That's I likes this. I like her rapport with Riley. I mean, you get the sense that this is like young person who hasn't gotone to talk to another young person in quite a while And also and he is like, why do things keep happening? Why is this flowing up? Aren't the imperials the good guys? There I have not read a sczene about this. What is going on? There is there is a line later on. it might be in the next episode. where I mean, you're given to understand, I think that they're roughly contemporaries in age But they're like There's some reference where she's like, Ohh I could'totect the boy or whatever. And he's like, hey, like I mean, but she's lived life asically outside the law. And has he has been playing luxury space Ler. And I think he realizes that now. I think he's gone from being like the really saddest a chant kid of's like,h, why does my dad work so hard? Like whyy is my mom evil to like, oh man, know I had it okay likeike versus and I think that's been a good realization for him that it's not all about Space Lacrosse. We got it which you got a real name. Got a real name. That wasay better than name. I was confused. Did it have another name? Itere something' called like Shockball. Shockball was stupid, but it has a good name now. It's like it's like Donky something or other I have to look it up because it is named Bodacana. Bodacan. so close matter. acccording to Wikipedia, Riley was both a fan and profession player of the sport Podickin as well as shockball. No mayaybe they wear similar equipment. Is this how they recst traveling Basically. Oh, o What It's like an ultimate Fisbee disc goulf kind of situation. Thereere we go. Yeah. All right, so U during this Uh yeah. so Riley gets captured. He's brought in for Qioning essentially. I think around the same time T Boots gets told to take off his boots. T Bot is their out of uniform. Two Boots is having some trouble adapting. Yeah Nothing's protocol and he's being told he needs to take off his boots and stop drinking coffee or whatever Um Riley gets, you know, thrown in a cell after getting interrogated Um, We also see that Mall basically gets then attacked by Morooc And our second Inquisitor, the eleventh Brother and he fights with them Well the mercenaries there's this weird little offshoot fact in the mercenaries. He's like, we're not getting paid enough. We're out of here And and they leave So they die Definitely called they're about to get shot when that happened was like it was like one of them got a name but I was like, I'm not investing heavily guy He took his hel to buy his name for approximately three minutes before his ship gets blown up. One of the other two Uh Zabrax goes to try and help they get names also. They're born in Icarus. I am not sure which one gets killed. One I don't know. it's one of them's personality is Gatling gun Yes. They are not deep characters. But they are brothers. They are brothers. But are they brothers brothers? Biologically br in arms, brothers in erenary I don't know. It is a relationship that they've chosen to find as they see C you know. Yeah. So he gets killed by a eleventh brother We're all contely body thrown out of the cave so that your brother can see the waterfall. There's a scene where they I forget who's chasing who But Maul and the two inquisitors lightsaber fight a jump through a waterfall. the water is like the lightsabers are likeer cool. I was just like, you guys are just coming up with stuff to show off how awesome you're is fog and the steam there. There was some very wasation in that. Okay guys, we get it. Like you were told do whatever you want here. This guy's the limit. Mul Yeah, Maul at this point feigns surrender and is told essentially No, that's not an option. The emperor wants you dead at which point he pulls down the ceiling of the cave uh to Get away essentially for whatever whatever value of getaway he has. So we basically get two episodes in a row that are just a continuous action sequence. And I feel like normally I would be like,, that's kind of boring, but it helps. it's animated beautifully. Stuff interesteresting stuff happens to kind of change the pace of things. but also I feel like they've done this thing is interesting as far as storytelling, which they you know, we didn't see in earlier Clone Wars and kinds of things where like we have all these different people that we're following in our story. and like they get split up and they get back together. And so there's like there's Lawson and his kid and there's the two Jedi. And then like we are kind of invested in Maul, even though he's a bad guy because guess what There's a bunch of inquisitors and they are bad or bad guys. And for what could normally just be kind of like fight by fight, I don't know. veryy dyamic. interesting. It's really dynic of like, who's captured? Who are you with Yeah. And like you're right. there's usily F different groups going on because you can put it ms group of two and even like two. Yeahah. And even like Lawson is on the outs with two boots.es like then two boots. Lawson is rightfully annoyed to the Jedi because the question if the Jedi had never shown up, Lawson would not be in any of this. And I think his like house got blown up. Yeah. I think at one point looed. Doctor was like, oh, I think we've made things worse. I was like, yes. I remember when they were trying to escape from the flat in the first place. I was like, Why whyy are you still with the Jedi? Like they're the ones that are being chased. You guys should go to ground. Yeah, But at this point it doesn't matter, right? Because the damage is done.ven if they do go to ground, they will get caught. That's fine, but they're not going to get chased the same way. Like I think they should not have stayed with the Jedi. I think that was a poor life choice A But Rember Lwson, so This is it's not quite an ethical dilemma. Lawson just spent, let's say a shift, let's say eight hours being Yeah interrogated by Moroc. who then seems like followed him home. found Jedi and started tearing up his house. Yes. But here's what should have happened, I think. if the Jedi had separated from Um Lawson and Riley. Lawson would then have gotten to his friend who owns the casino And then I don't think would have been chased because he didn't have the Jedi with him and then would have been able to get off planet without Jeopardizing his friend. Yeah. I think the question was whether or not they had time to get away from Moroc Thats That's a question. L like if they had been able to separate, I think they would have been safer without them. Maybe. And Lawson does seem like the kind of guy who wants to do the right thing. Yeah. and. I was going to say what I'm very impressed with, you know, you mentioned the different groups. I'm impressed with how well these characters are drawn, not just animated, but like how well these characters are written you know, we don't spend a ton of time with all of them, but we have a good sense of who all of them are. I think again, think of a lot of other shows that I have watched where you have this many characters like, oh, it's overstuffed. I don't know who're following. I forget all these people. No, they've done a great job of having like these are the theseese are the characters. Here's what they're doing. and everybody's got very clear motivations. Everybody knows exactly where they're It helps that they. I mean, Maul is the character we've seen a million times But then we have all these characters that are like Bically Existing Star Wars tropes.es, but a new version of them, rightight? Yeah. I mean, like two booots is very C three PO. We've seen inquizzers before the master and Padlan are seem like seems like it seems like it' not that much very imported the weary cop trope from from Crye. name Fario or which one's Fario ye? Fario. Oh yeah, he's he was available from central casting. Yeah. There's like doeses he come in a short blue form? Yes, you know So yeah, I do think there's a lot of tropes and they all fit together. I actually would love to know more about the lead Mandalorian lady. Yes. And she is kind of interesting because she's like She's loyal to she seems very loyal to M and kind of caught between. I mean, that even his gang who until now was basically nameless and in some cases faceless, it's like, it is interesting that you have a gang that is like half Zabraach and half Mandalorian, some who are loyal to you, some who are just in it for the money. Well then you had this proession in command who's like between the two worlds. Yeah because I get the impression she talks about basically being on Mandalore when he took control and then when he fell And going with him. And she's she's a true believer, right? Like herer helmet is painted to look like Maul's face Oh really? Yes If you look at the design on the front is basically the pattern from his face. It's a bitush. Yeah She's in deep is what I'm saying. Yeah Anyways But yeah, but she is an interesting character because she is a And she knows he's going to come back. There's a very Yeah later on. There's a bit where she's very much like she's on side with him in a way that many of the other Mandalorians are maybe adhering to her, but not so much to Maul Um Yeah, the one character I think in this episode and I was saying this to Dan is like I get what I did it. I feel like two boots actually oscillated a bit too much I feel like he was like the friend one and then when he does the protocol I think he is just too unaware of what's going on that then like it made the next episode feel a little artificial So he's a little yeah, and especially I was a little surprised by some of his actions in the next episode. Should we do a quick recap of the next episode? Yes Chapter eight, The creeping fear Again very leaning into chapter names that sound like they're done just a Dragons's adventures Yeah. Or like titles in like Bram Stoker or classic Saturday morning serial titles D do you not to eat the creeping Oh, not that kind of cereal. Or like a very invasive plant Um So Maul has been separated from everybody else He This is an interesting thing I actually really love too is that He is not at the top of his game during this past five years because his leg has been injured. Um And so we, you know, it's a reminder A, he has robot legs because you know, cut in half Um, be like the fact that he is injured there like We see him fighting, but like you get the impression that maybe if you were injured probably handle two inquisitors pretty easily Anyways, Here he is basically stumbling through a tunnel And he gets a lot of hallucinations and like images from his past. He's visited by Th ghosts.. Yeah. So we see him basically as a kid being taken from you're right. Th is three ghost. You're totally right, Tony. I was joking, I didn't actually count them my bth past U AS and running under sidious We also see briefly later on his encounter with Obi Wan Konoi. Fgos, sorry, Forgos Um And basically the death of Savage at the hands of the emperor U And so a lot of experiening of his life and what brought him to this point. A prettyt good reminder for a character that is a villain. like Why is he a villain? Yeah, right? Like He he has been through a lot. Look, raise your hand if you've been cutting half before. No I have And then things got worse. Three key questions from this entire arc with Maul one. Why are there sandstorms in subway tunnels? That was like a dust storm. questestion still stands two How does his leg not electrocute him when he falls into a puddle? I think three is that is by animation rules, which is the sparks are there to for the viewer, not for f on his side. Yeah, sure. And then three is So it feels like we finally have a motivation for Darth Maul, which is revenge again, but now again sidious But I guess the question is, didn't he already know? wasas he or I guess the question is like Was this like an epiphany of like because you and this like everything through like, oh, it's been Sidious all along orr is it because Sidious said like I want to kill you, that he feels even more betrayed or was like it feels like he's known all along. It was Sidious's fault. So I don't really know what epiphany he had and I guess I interpreted it as like He can't die work is his work is not he is like he is basically I don't know, mayaybe it's not actually that bad, but I interpret it as like He could just give up and die. But Sidious is motivation. Andid remember all those horriorribleotation but he is not paid back. And I would add to that what I think is well done here is Starting with those flashbacks to him as a kid a reminder to the dark side. And it starts with him. seeing himself as a kid being afraid of sidious this se. Stay with me on this one leads to anger H anchor leads to hate. and hate leads to suffering, but we're not we haven't gotten that part yet. But this is the point like We see sort of his embrace of the dark side. right The fact that he is fundamentally a creature rooted in fear and now anger and hate as he wants his revenge. And that is his driving motivation is to embrace that. And what he kind of I mean, I think about that Clone Wars episode where we first see him and it was like wild but he is still alive in the you know, he's in the garbage planet and he's got like a weird sper biter body And like he is sane. He is not well there. And he, you know, we then see him I don't remember the exact order of when we're seeing him, but like we see him later in life when Ezra Brizard meets him and he is notot doing great either. This is a character that seems to, you know Rises to some pretty great highs, you know, Rules Mandalore, Refully, but also like descends into madness because of his suffering at times. and I don't know how do you run a successful criminal entmterprze while dealing with that? I mean, you don't look Darth Maul, he's got it all. He's he's, you know, he's living the dream. But I do think at the start of this show, we were asking the question like, what is the motivation of Darth Maul, I think this like definively says and reminds us all it's actually, it's becoming crime Lords. It's not getting revenge on the pikes It's killing Sidious. Yeah. And I do think that means to an end. But ye, but I do think there iss a good question here is like, He wasn't motivated by that hate. Do you think he would have given up a long time ago? and do you think that's actually been a very healthy tool for him know the five successful habits of Sith Lord. I mean, I do wonder, you know, their choice to show him as a child being abused by the emperor who's like electrocuting him as part of his training That was, I mean, I guess I had not thought about like how he ended up as the ' you know servant in episode one. And I guess in my head, I just assumed, you know, that he was like more of an adult when he was recruited. like you know, you kind of get that it's like, In some ways, he needs to kill the emperor so that he can live not in fear. Does he not make a comment here to that he like he doesn't want that to happen to anybody else? thought I thought I him saying that I was unc have that moment because I'king too. I think he did say it was technically that has already happened to someone else. Sorry Pal. Yeah. But you know, he wants to he wants to stop it. So it is the weird thing where it's like, Darth Cidus is more evil than Darth Maul. And the show the show is doing some interesting things with showing you like let us pull apart the gradations of evil that are available to us in the Epire. Yeah, I mean, especially if you go back and think about, Maul's appearance in the Phantom Madace he has No motivation there, right a speer bike. rightight he's a lackkey. And I think it's hard to think of him even as evil as Sidious or whatever because he doesn't have an agenda. He's just a guy going dispatched and like doing he's like a hired gun basically. Is he also ever clarify that he's Sidious's apprentice? or is he just sort of like the awkward trainee that ever actually gets that point. No, I think there's something like He's sort of like the cousin that no one talks about right?'s the He's not an apprentice. He's just a trainee. he is called an apprentice. He' an apprentice. Okay I I think he is annt He has that one scene where Didious is in a hologram talking to the trade guys and he's like my apprentice Duff Mo. Yeah Mul shows up in a hologram. It's not your fault. The Sith are notoriously bad like org chart org charts. Yeah. Well, especially because their org chart is just it's too t then Count Dooku get and then Count Dooku gets accredted to be an apprentice at a very late doted aging life. And then Count Dooku submits his thing where he's like,h, I've got this other person working for me. And it's a Matrix organization. So I would just go. It's a center of excell organization is legitimate. Center of excellence for the Sith Eventually Maul meets up with his followers and they basically hide out in Demis's office, sorry murdered crime Lord from the first episode. Yeah. at which point Vario gets a message that Drryden Vos of the Crimson Dawn would like to have an audience. Yeah. And that's when everyone opens up their phone and Googles is Drryden Vos. Oh, I knew immediately. Dryid and Vos. That's Paul Batney.'s Paul Batney from Solo But before that he Oh, so Cat didn't remember. I didn't know. I thought he was a random guy. No, no.'sy would I know this? becausecause you're on a Star Wars podcast. But I represent the common man U Do you Who just really likes Rog watch elsewhere in this episode Tu Boots has his whole crisis of faith, especially when he learns that twice Lawson's boss has probably just been murdered by the empire instead of temporarily suspended. He's a bit credulous, yes Um, He eventually makes a gre They make a deal. They make a deal like a prisoner exchange. Yeah, Los is like I'll turn myself in if you let my my kid out. Unfortunately, T Boots is forced to shoot a whole bunch of stormtroopers on the way out And therefore is like, well, the deal' off. We just got R. He's the guy who's got cy. I remember him now. Okay. good good deal the rest of. For once in Star Wars this deal gets better ye. Yeah. Yeah. Also they steal like a like a party party kind of a great displaying. enjoy that. There's kind of a great scene there and what I loved about that scene was that Devin So Devin has like a quick exchange with one of the guys and then the guy has a bunch of friends and we do not show that fight. The next side is just Devin driving away and all those guys on the ground. Well done. Yeah. Yeah. And it's like I have no you know we don't need burer a dozen people. It's better storytelling that way. But I do this is, I think a great example of twoubs of how quickly he went from otocol Proticalotol to nootocol, which I think I would have loved to see in the last episode a little more doubt on his side. because I do feel like it was I got a lot of whip bllash from Tubot. I felt like it was okay because I felt like he spends a lot of time like thinking whether or not he should answer the call and it's not like he throws his like phone away or whatever. He just keeps hiding it and then he's got it Yeah, mayaybe there would have been a shot in there where he like looks at that picture he has of like Wson I would have lik a little more doubt in the previous episode of the one before but I'm fine It's a little trickery narratively because he doesn't have anyone to talk to, right? because he's like the one guy in the police station so we don't Really we don't have a chance for him to have a conversation about like I'm I'm I'm starting to sympathize with terrorists the other countis cop is like, why would you tell me this? Well you could have done like animation again him looking at a photo, like trying to say something and then pulling it likeike there's There's something called acting where you can actually show a lot of emotion without saying words. There's a robot. he's not a person. No. You can't have o anyways All the is seem to just be robots. He's the only one. I do love that he's we can have the whole conversation about why I know theoy Star Wars robots. But I did laugh a lot at that one scene where he says to Wawson, like, I'm surprised you recognizeed me because I that ls. L whichich only one who talks Wh is, I think a hundred times funnier than the C three PO Red Am. Yes, Yes I don't remember that.' it's a great joke. Yeah. C three PO is there in four movies and he's like being C three PO and he's like, Ohh, Hanl, you didn't recognize me because I have a red arm and the camera showays that he has a red arm. And it's that, you know, Han is busy being, you know Han is focused on Princess Leia and not C three PoO's red arm I'm so glad you re told that joke You know what? The key thing is that the way I told it was significantly longer than if you had just watched. That makes it so much better. really enhances it I'm here to help. Thanks Tony. We have that car chase where you mentioned there's a really cool stunt where they throw a speeder bike through a gunship. I also love that one speeder just goes off the garters and Oh yeah, there's a good scream. How many gunships have been blown up? so many. I do love that this is these are all the Republic gunships.. So they built one star destroyer, but they still are using the Republic gunships, which they they've been kind of they're going through's a quick a clip Yeah, there it's I like to think that they've been repurposeed for kind of from, you know, battlefield use to urban poling use. But also yeah, they that tooound familiar Yeah, that's they're familiar. U Riley also does get interrogated by the eleventh brother, which doesn't seem to be great for him. He seems very scarred by that. Yeah. Yeah. I guess maybe that is the maybe and they don't show it like you said, but I wonder if that is like a big inciting event for two boots is like Sooky crow face Dark Jedi are interrogating children without an adult or lawyer present. Which side am I on? Yeah. Are we the baddies? Are we the baddies? Why is thisow guy? Why is this crowman in my place of work? to they try to get to Rena Sell who like calls laawson and says he has a ship But on the way there Devin and Doc here bothing about the great. Lawson calls her, she basically sort of fitiously tips him off. I think youp the code word of like the time they plananded the planet or they got it ye they got each. They make a bolt for it and And I call this. I was like I was like, they can't get captured again because they just got out of being prison. so they can't get recaptured. and I was like I bet they're not in the elevator and And then I'd say She blowing up that ship was so cool. It was cool. Yeah. That was real. I don't know if you mean I't It I mean Star Wars rules, No one dies in. She exploses She That doesnerate. The explosion over her head. wasine. I she'siters got blown back by that one. I think she's fine I, you know, I am just very You know, it's rough comparing this to other things. So maybe with animation, we should only compare it to other animation. but I think about this compared to The bad batch, which you know, I like But the Bad Batch had some weird uneven episodes and it had episodes that felt like was this Was this episode needed? This is just like a ten part story. fun. Yeah. It's really tight. The plot is very tight. It's pacing is very good. Everything keeps moving. Like I said, there's a lot of characters, but you very clearly understand what everybody's motivations are. It feels like a Saturday morning cartoon. likeike in a good way, in a good way, very serial and What's going to happen next? Yeah, I've been super impressed with the storytelling here. I mean, and all these people who are working on these are mostly like And the visuals, I feel like the most last two recent episodes, they did a lot more of those like matte paintings that were just like stunningly artistic and gorgeous. Like I would love to rewatch the game of the Sound offff. Just for the visual. They do cool stuff too where like the camera moves along with the background and soid new a feature in the Apple pictures that you show me A Classic cat But it's cool because as it moves away from it, it flattens into the painted Yeah background. So like it has a kind of pseudo three D effect at times that is I don't know. I just and I love that there's like Everything's a little bit r Like, even when the cat's favorite character, the creepy spy droid is like looking at stuff through the camera is all rough and everything. Do you realize I have to go back and watch if you put on subtitles, he's talking He's talking. Oh, yeah. heays's I've been watching Iperial Ride shiny imppies when he's watching all the stormtroopers moving around. Yeah, no. I think I saw a meme on the internet that was like, you know Ma's group without a spy bot and they's just like, they're dead. And it's like, you know, he he is definite the MVP of that criminal organization. He's just so funny. Yeah, um, I also look and like that's a, you know, again, a great Like Let's let's throw more Star Warsy stuff into this mix here Yeah. You know, I don't, I'm impressed. I feel like I was, you know was the previous animated thing are tales from the Bounty hunters? Yes. Yeah. I feel like we were a little disappointed in that. The bad batch had its ups and downs. had some the good in the later seasons, I think were much better Yeah I still't think about that one episode with crosshair on that on that snow plananet. That Oh ye fick an incredible episode U But this has just felt like solid I, part of it is it's a ten episode season. I think that's a pretty Good length. It is telling a single story Um you know, they they're They're not spending too much time pulling in people that you know, like we had Maul We have the inquisitors who we don't really know, but like they're kind of cypherers anyways We have a mention of Dryd and Voss at the end here, but other than that, it's a new planet. It's new characters It's not stuff that's like too tied to the existing mythology. And I think going into too, I think there's an expectation that U although this's all C conflict with I'm about to say is like I always get the impression We're not going to spend a lot of time with these characters so don't get too attached. although apparently there is now a second season coming. was anounced. It was announced at real time. Yes.. It was announced earlier. I I think before it started airing even. I thought was ann before one beid anyways. So I wonder If we'll get to see more of Lawson and Devin and or is Maul and other people around Maul some other planet. The other two things I was going to mention. one, I'm impressed I keep thinking Docy's going to bite it. I've like since since like the first episode was like, o, well, he needs to die. so Devin looks them all. I' impressed with how long he has survived. I would like him to survived to the very end. I think he might I honestly think that may happen. because it feels like killing off the master is such a trope. Yeah, that's just it. I'm kind of like I keep expecting it because it feels like the the storytelling that we tend to see. so I appreciate it's gone against type there. I also want to mention eleventh brother, we actually have seen eleventh brother prereviously in the Giving this look like Would you like to say something? No, please. Okay king very smug or something, I don't know.. The Tales of the Jedi series When Ahsoka is hiding out after leaving the Jedi Order, she goes to a little farming village. And she's basically trying to like disappear and then An inquisitor shows up having heard about a Jedi because she uses her powers to help somebody basically sets the entire town on fire. And it's this guy So this guy eventually bites it at Assoka's hands. As does Maroak. So both of those guys get trashed by. She's got a pretty good She also beat Maul previously. so she's got a good track record happening. Um And it's confused the Grand Inquisitor is not first brother No, he does not have that's confusing. Yeah It is in a title. I guess they don't report to him at this point. so Isn't he shy Maybe that hasn't been. Maybe Darth Vader is still micromanaging them and then it'll get changed later. Don't we see him in Kenobi when he's not the Grand Inquisitor and they're like fighting for promotions? No, they thought he died. Oh, that's right. It is a terrible plot mover where it's like, oh, he got hurt and then later he's like, I'm fine. He got impaled and then it got better Yeah Okay I'm also always slightly annoyed because the live action version does not look as. I like that actor a lot. Yeah doesn't That is That was not really good use of him as a, I agree. ye Ym. O things to say about these four episodes. I know this is a big chunk. There's a lot of stuff that I think we probably would have delved a little deeper into if we were covering a few of them at the time, but Needs must Um, Kat, did you have a list of things we need to talk about? Nope, we covered everything. I try to get to it as wee. This is why I interrupted I don't then have to give like a ten minute monologue at the end That's why you interrupt. Yes I'm doing it for everyone. And I apologize lizers too. I know there's a lot of cross talkk this episode, but we're also excited. Catching up on stuff. Catching up on the stuff stuff. Should we do we got a little mail? Sh we do something We should do listen in our mail? Listen mailen mail. Do we have like a c Did you figure out who you know where you know Pal Betany from other than Star Wars? No, of course, not Pul Betany. He was a master commommander. But also every. I mean this with genuine friendship. I forget how much of a dad you are I have a dad. Master of Commander is the most dad movie that existss ever. And I say that as someone who enjoys Master of Commander and it's not a father But that is an extremely dead moves have becomegrounds. Yeah. I'm familiar with what has happened over since. My dad and I bonded very deeply when I was like twelve and thirteen over my love for CS Forrester and reading the entire Horatial Hornblower series. And then he was able to pirate for me since he was ant ear after a pirating. I should not tell this on a podcast. It was like thirty years ago now. They get very lgicious I now own that and then he actually burned some of them for me. So I have all of the Horato horn. I saw I bought and then the rest of them he burned. I would know if that's like my parents ever did anything wrong. Oh yeah. no.. Uh, and then, um He was a banker insurance fine. U and then so I've always loved like Big sale. French, English, all that. And so like Masing Mor is good, but it's not as good as a ratio hornblower I always thought it was sad we didn't get more movies in that Oh didn't that didn't There is no Commander cinematic Universe. Like those books nearly as much you see as b Have you read Patrick O'Brian Now, I'm u Yeah,' I read the first one. did I didn't read the rest of them. There's a million of them. I actually really like the Naomi Novick ones that are set in the same period.s are pretty dope. I love the Napoleonic era They're good. they're good, they're good books. This is why my retirement plan is that Dan and I retire And we write cozy mysteries together about a spy Napoleonic eror Oh Dan How how to standan How does Sam feel about this plan Pressed into labor Not unlike being pressed So wait a ship and then Napole you get to retire from your office job and take on writing Dan gets to retire from being a writer and More? That's the deal Okay, I'm just pointing out that I can see how different people would view that planant differently from different perspectives. Oh. All right, let's do snock Dan Not everyone's meant to retire It's true ot all of us are destined to retire. For mail, you can reach us on Blue Sky, where we're ACP d. the inccorpple. com. You can reach us on AstDom, We're at ACP atzpp one. flights and you can reach us v email ACP at the inccorple. comot Michael writes in. Great to hear the Cats Chaos Power hour spepelled KHAOS Somebody else in Discord may reference. I could not remember that we actually called it that, but apparently. Oh, someone called it in Discord. I loved it so much. I mentioned it. Okay Expected less swords in a show titled after a blunt weapon, but it's still great, hashtag, Team Maul Um, And then Rob wrote in to Kat's questestion, I definitely would have considered the deal. I mean he couldn't take it, but the offer had the implied, quote, or will murder you, unquote, cllaws. I was surprised he didn't seem a little conflicted Thank you. You know, Kat, it's challenging how different ethical dilemmas are always presented. I always remember I was in college and I had a roommate and he was trying to get like work at target and they had like an employeere screening kind of quiz that he had to take. And there was a question and it was like You see a friend shoplifting. What do you do? And my friend said, Well, it depends what they're shoplifting that's for a big You did not get that job. It depends how good of a friend they are. So you know, I mean, I'm just wondering, for example, sure we have all our own feelings about wouldould we take Mul's offer? how many of us would have gotten to that position of being a grizzle space cop in order to be in that position. Yeah, we would made it past Yeah. Can I ask so what's the biggest ethical dilemma you've ever dealt with? No, this is no what? No We got mail. We're not doing We're not doing your This is finally suddenly pivoting to a much heavier podcast Kat somehow this is even darker and heavier than your what felony would you want to get away with the question? whichich Dan doesn't like when we talk about a podcast And so we rem. So we return to the next part your mail. Michael, a different Michael. We have a lot of listeners named Michael. I mean dance just statistically, there are a lot of people named fair point Michael writes absolutely would not take the deal with Maul setting aside first past the post voting like we have in the US. Whenever someone offers a binary choice, you should ask what the third choice is they don't want you to know about Green party. That's right. I'm concerned that Michaelel Michael might be too intelligent to be listening to this I mean, followed up by the second part of his message which says, I also caught the lightsaber talking closed caption and immediately dismissed it in my head because it made no sense Uh Lyle writes in Sagrona S G It's a space cop show that's seen Andor. I would not take Maul's deal. Lawson doesn't know what we know about Maul, but he knows he is maximally dangerous and lawless, and Lawson is immortal with no space magic Agreed, Whitwor's v vocals are amazing on this, D deffinitely a show for headphones. Guest, please to a Star Wars train podcast episode. Windsor to Quebec City, maybe Where are those places? Those are in Canada, to me. Oh, okay I was like, because I know where Quebec City is Windsor in England because that would be a very long. That would be a very long tra. Windsor iss close to Toronto, right? I want to say something like that. Yeah U Jay wrote in to say I meant to write in last week to say how much I enjoyed your first show reviewing Maul, Shadowlord, but was caught up by your early recording of the second show. As always, thoroughly enjoying your comments and theories and discussing the show, as well as the wildly divergent tangents that make ACB such a unique podcasts. You wouldn't catch shows like Warp Core allowing such flights of fantasy and Fankly the pr for it Anyway, back on topic. this Maul show is excellent. As I think you guys all said, I was worried he would just be reemption art for Maul. Maybe that's still to come, but I'm glad they' ke him a villain so far, even if he's a lesser villain than the Empire And it looks great. The animation is wonderful. But I have questions. one. When drooids are buil Does someone go through an online list of optional extras like paint job, Motivator unit, parenthes, good or bad, hidden like say comppartments and evil looking eyes Or do you think Maul applied Spybots Optical sensor as an aftermarket upgrade? T. Is there an equivalent slash opposite of a Piper award for people that have played droids in both live action and animation of the same franchise? What's a Piper Award? A Piper Award. I'm so glad you asked Piper. again, I represent the common man. A Piper awward. who doesn't listen to just catch us so you know before you get too proud of yourself. This is a reference to one of D other podcasts. Dan Morren A man you have married Is this the the rebound? No,'s Biff. It's Biff. It's Biff. It's a Biff award that we started giving out to when actors would appear in both Marvel and DC movies mainly because there was one actress played an agent on Agents of Shield named Piper and also played Basically an agent on Supergirl at the same time. W your name was also Pepper? It was not, but it was very confusing because it was very distinctly the same actress in very much the same like costuming role Um, So Jay continues, I'm very much enjoying Richard Ayoade's performance. I'm looking to win the Empire make him take off the boots and then he loses his buming bleeding temperper Jay You are inside the game Richard A Auide previously voiced a droid in the Mandalorian prison break episode where they have to break that twil like out of Bur and stuff Um And three, why is it that the animated shows have both fantastic looking visuals and great storylines, Whereas the live action TV shows get a lot of flack for their writing being inconsistent? Is it so much cheaper to animate? so they spend much more on the writing I wonder if it's because the animation takes so long, there's no option to reshoot it later and it's burning money if you do lots of post production editing, so the scripts have to be fully completed early in the animated shows production. Whereas maybe with live action, they're less concerned about getting the writing done early and that shows through. April the twenty third be with you. That might sound better in two weeks time Jay, I think you' pretty much the money. We talked about this in the car podcast, which again, not our best life choice is like wrriting all the scripts in advance is a cheaper and be better I don't understand why everyone doesn't do it. Yeah, I mean, this's way bad with like movies Yeah really don't do that. It took a genius like James got to come in here and be like, what if we had a script first? Yeah I don't know why the live action stuff. And it's not just Star Wars. like a lot of shows don't have all the scripts and writing written before they I mean, I think there's I don't, Daniels into the town and stuff like that. It does feel like we are in kind of a bad era. where Everything is rushed Right? So like the Mandalorian comes out and season one of the Mandalorian pretty consistent pretty good. and that's like a floodgate for like, yeah, more Star Wars, but we need it now. And there's the whole thing where there's not writers's rooms anymore And but basically everything is rushed. And so you know, stuff is just not polished the way it used to be. I think a big question on some of it is also who is making the calls Because I think of something like Andor, right, obviously, which is the extreme Tony Gilbroy had enough clout there to basically be like, this is the show I want to make basically have my b show do it Yeah. and they kind of did Um, Is it the I remember how much we were looking forward to Obi Wan, which had the same writer and director for the whole thing And then it was like It was fun actually. It wasn't bad But it it was over it was fine. It was fine. they had to extend a film script into a te. it was a two hour film script that they had reheated for us basically. Yeah. But it was really somethinging and it was that like, and I think back in the day when you' like twenty two episodes in a sitcom, right, you would definitely you wouldn't have allosises for a season. That would be absurd. but it's just with things are only eight or ten episodes Yeah feeles like that should be doable for shows in general don't know how comed it actually is. Yeah. I mean, even I mean to the point of Ahsoka, Ahsoka also had, I mean, Faloney wrote all of that and directed most of it. But and like But we just talk like Faloney I love him very much. I think he's done a lot of good work. I don't think he knows how to write live action Yeah. and again, I'm so fascinated by that because there is a difference. There clearly is. You'd have to tell stories differently. The cuts, everything, the pacing. I think a lot of it is the challenge of directing actual actors. I think directing is And so you don't I think the quality of the performances you get out of people Like I feel like they've the quality of the performances of the voice actors, for example, has I feel like basically never been a problem with animation. Like they've they've got that figured out. because there's something it's very easy to tell When a voice actor is bad. they only have one dimension in which they can do that work. Yeah. And so if your voice isn't working It's not working. like, but it does seem to be this weird thing with with live action I think they're also basically like Stuff gets rushed And they seem terrified to cancel anything. Yeah. And and then you even get weird things where it's like, I mean I feel like the Aolyte was way more interesting than season one of or way more interesting than Obi W. but guess what? It was too expensive and therefore that's a failure. Like Apparently it just jumped up way high on the viewing list too in the last two weeks for some reason. Really some reason Yeah. It was good. M justenseo like it was weird. It was weird and different I like It had its problems, but it was doing something different and interesting and I felt like It deserve to continue telling more of that story. But I think there' was bit about the editing and I' never understood the relationship between the editor and the director and how much freedom they could givei, but Lassoka was just It was just slow Yeah. It was just slow in a way that doesn't I think you can be slow on a TV show and have it work. Fine. But also like something has I toottally ag great with slow storytelling. Again. I think elements of Andor show that, but like it's still tension. Yeah, exactly. and not to bring this up, but I was again, but I was just watching it. There is a scen in the third season of the Daredevil show on Netflix. Gain, you know, this is not Biff, even though I know, but it's relevant Thank Tony. It's a fight team with Daredevil and whichich I've seen I love that episode. onene of my favorites Anyways, it's very The way it is shot is very deliberate and it's slow. It involves him like at the beginning of it, he's like kind of walking into this room and it's tense because you know as the viewer, things that are happening, the way that it's shot is very deliberate in terms of what you are seeing, what perspective where the camera is, like how the camera moves. I think you're saying it's deliberate. Like I think deliberate. and like I go back the carly like, I've been thinking lot again about this ent time we've like arrival and things show like that where it's like it's deliberate. Like And if you're written advance, you can figure it out your shots and I think to the point that you're saying Tony is like, I think with animated shows, you were forced to be more deliberate because of the medium. Animation does have a history of Eiciency in storytelling, right? It's like you want you want to, I mean, so if you were watching Darth Maul sorry, Maul Shadow Floyd and like You with pause or you were watching it without without your sound on or all like the story still needs to work. right. Animation is always about this just like brutal efficiency of storytelling regardless of what the pace is that forces a certain type of visual storytelling, that It's not that that can't exist in live action. it just tes not to You don't have to you can sh get away with it. Yeah. And I think because of that, we get you have to work harder G it. I think we should that with Andor But it's it's, I think I don't know Ahsoka was such kind of a weird show that they let they never dealt with the emotional journey of Azrael like so much. And there were so, I mean, I mean, especially because it was like I feel like it was always destined to like even if it had even if it had been good, which it was not. like were audiences going to like this thing that was a live action continuation of an animated show that they probably didn't watch. I mean And that was always going to be a rough hill before you poorly executed. honestly wild things It's hard to imagine that if they hadn't like I sit back and I like it was like What if that had just been an animated joe I actually think it would have been good Yeah. Yeah, whichich is wild because it's like you probably could have transplanted almost all of that show into an animated show. and it would have been good and you know, I'm not saying that they like that's entirely true. I'm sure there were still elements of it that wouldn't have worked as well. But like I feel like a lot of the issues I had with that show in animation, I would not have felt in the same way So And I think people would generally have been happier about it, but also you know, it's not as I think this show the mall show is going to get the kind of numbers that a live action show is going have. There's always a c number people are just going to check out because it's animation and it's which is sad it is sad because I love better stuff Yeah, and there's, you know, it and in some ways, I feel like the road to live action Star Wars was paved by the animation. I do not think it was paved by the movies. You know, we got to the Mandalorian because of the Clone Wars, not because of se seeven of the Clone Wars is some of the best television I've ever seen. It's incredible It's so good it almost makes you want to watch the prequels, but you probably should. I did that and I instantly regreed it. You know, some lessons, Kat, you're probably one of those kids who had to touch the fire all the time Or at least onene last, one last piece of mail from Ambrose Ambrose writes Hi AC Peps which I guess is We got a names us's up Peps? I am enjoying your m all, Chadlory coverage and want to follow up on your question of when was the first chronological appearance of an imperial Starrer Oh, thank you. Fr what I've seen, The first ISD appeared in the final episode of The Bad Batch commanded by Governor Turkin It was escorted by two enitors applying to me that this was one of the first, if not the first ISD. makes total sense Tarkkin would want the first one for himself As for the question of when Shadow Lore takes place, Though Sam Whiter has said it's one year after the Clone War, Star Wars d. com has written. it's a few short years after Order sixty six What' supposed to long ears? Yeah, what's a short ear? it's like a short ton. It's an imperial measurement So my head canon is that like this show started airing after the conclusion of the bad batch So are the events in it and ISDs are becoming plentiful. Now let's see when the first Tie fighter shows up. Thanks and keep up the recapping. and seent me two more emails, but they turned out to be wrong and he apologized Don't sweat it There's a lot again, it's hard to dig through all this as good as some of the Wikipedia and other sites are They are very convoluted at times and it's hard to find information I do like, I mean, and some of it is always also what do things look like in animation because some of the Star Wars animations aren't more stylized than others because we have these stormtroopers that I think are Almost classic sture the not quite. Yeah. And I can never tell like are the rebel ones just are they Is that just Iialize or are they like one iteration before our episode for Stormtroopers and we haven't seen a little different Yeah. Yeah, the like the eye pieces look a little different. It's like a lip Yeah. And we saw some other imperial equipment in this episode where we saw speeder bikes that are not not quite endoor speider bikees, but maybe those are the urban speeder bikes. And I think we saw some kind of ATST type thing that wasn't quite an ATST And we've seen variations on before. And I mean again, this is probably even if it's still a few years after the prequel started, we're talking ten, fifteen years before the original movies. So there's a lot of time in which some of that stuff evolves And clearly the immperial budget for defense spending. I'm just where do we see the brand new X wigings before they're all beat up and rusty? I think you buy them used They buy them used savings used. They put on that rust in the factory as they make them used. Well, it's kind of like designer jeans, right? You get them with the holds and ye. Or you used to buy the Kenner X wings and then put on the battle dam battle dam. Yeah. Okay We put on the battle damage for you at the factory. I can't do anything about it. Sorry. ye, it sprayed on. Yeah. I should also add to this this week was my birthday and Tony very generously gave me a Star Wars Tie fighter Lego set. with one of the new smart bricks in it. I've yet sm this leg open, but I'm very excited What he Oh, and my wife also gave me Heave Everybody on this podcast gave me a Star Wars Lego set Thank you I gota acc I got No, I got I got okay, I'm in serious trouble now. This is why I begin every show with an apology. And end them with it. I just feel like it's probably better that way. So we know who doesn he liked more, Tony, nice job. You told me to remember to thank Tony. Yeah. You didn't tell me to remember to thank you. No, that was fine. Dan, she thought that was implied but you know, being a good person. Like a droid, I need very specific instructions sometimes Are you like a spybot or like auot No, I'm like a two boots, let's. Okay. Everybody know. You are frequently carrying a m five D over here. Yeah Shiny You never see Spybot and Tubots in around. Yeah, but I can't ship them they would be really fun together Mhm. All right I think that brings us to the end of this very long episode. It does. unless you guys have something else that you would like to add. We've only got To last episodes. they're airing this coming Monday which is also May fourth. expect perhaps some additional Star Wars news around that time I did see earlier today there was a new release date to trailer for the they've made basically a spiritual successor to the old Starars pod racing episode one racer game alactic racer that comes out in October, which I'm actually excited becausecause I loved to that terrible game. Pter It was a fun game. I did actually play a lot That was a computer game. Yeah. I played a lot of. I was very balanced. It might have been on one of like the Nintend like gameCube or. I played it on desktop. Yeah. I played on my Mac in the freshman year of college and there was no multiplayer. So we just take turn turns. yes. Yeah like trying to get the best speeds had not invented Mario Kart technology yet. That toouring Cold and I That was like most of middle school. Anyway, I'm excited to check that out I did hear a rumor that they might announce the last Fen order game as well, but's see okay That actually happens. Is that one of the Redhe Jed head? Yes Yeahah Tal cast us. Talcast us That's all I got U I want to think it's weird that Qinlin Voss and Dryden Voss have the same last name. Wait Never mind. So no, no question. Wait, which one's which? Well now I have to think about this Quinlin Voss is a Jedi. Dryden Voss is a crime lord. So Drryid and Voss is Paul Betanyy. Quinlan Vos Dry is dude who he's got a with He wrote the memo that got theone Cone armyreat it, didn't he? Is his name the one that's on the wall when they go o Yeah.. I think the answer is just that just like why are there multiple inntilies Is that nontilies Answer George Lucas hasn't kept track of which names he's used already. Yeah. fair Yeah. All sorry, I just felt like that was important. That was was good question. Thank God. They related they're different species, but you never know. Noope should I analye that remind you All I can actually think about with Dryd and Voss is the fact that that was supposed to be this complicated animated character that looked like a wion Like a feline alien. You don't voice by Red Reently Williams. Yeah by Red recently that possibly not just a lion, but a Oh, like this Yes Interesting. that But yeah, a sad loss that it was not Michael K Williams who is no longer with us. I think it was before he passed. I think he was probably He was having some I think was having some struggles and yeah unfortunately passed away. but shame because that guy I think that was great Yeah I don't know why we're talking about driry and vos so much That's o.
