The redistricting back and forth took a turn last week when a Supreme Court decision led to a handful of Republican states fast tracking new congressional maps like Louisiana. In Virginia, that state's Supreme Court overturned new congressional maps approved by voters that would have given Democrats an edge. And in South Carolina, there have been proposals to redraw those maps. Although nothing has been passed. A BC's reclined. Redistricting happens after the census, which is uh the end of the decade. Twenty twenty two, this is supposed to be set up. We're supposed to not really think about redistricting for a decade. So the fact that we're here in the middle of the decade doing it again. President Trump started this in large part by his push in Texas. We saw the response from Governor Newsom in California, we saw these other states some under court order, which happens all the time. Uh but mostly this has been a politically driven process, and it's only become more politicized. And I think we've seen largely a shift away from partisan redistricting as a consequence of the Voting Rights Act, and others some some other reforms in other states, but now we're sliding back. California mayor has agreed to plead guilty to acting as an illegal agent for the Chinese government and has resigned from her city position. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has ordered flags flown at Half Staff for eight days in honor of the eight children killed in last month's mass shooting in Shreveport. Shreveport police said that suspect Shamar Elkins was the father of seven of the children. Elkins died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase.
