Sakir Starmer has announced his resignation as Labour leader, and that he'll be replaced as Prime Minister by September at the latest. In a speech outside number ten this morning, Sakir said it has become clear his party didn't believe he could lead them into the next general election. He was under pressure to quit after the former Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham won the Maker Field by election. In the last half hour, he's arrived in London to be sworn in as an MP and gave his thanks to the people of Manchester. It's been very kind of sad for me today to leave Greater Manchester . The people have been brilliant to me over the last few years. Thank you very much. I've loved every minute of the role. Thank you very much guys. I hope Ellie managed to have better place. Andy Burnham has put himself forward to replace Sakira as prime minister. He could be the only candidate after the former health secretary West Streeting said he backed Mr Burnham. The Conservative leader Kemi Badnock says the Kyr's replacement must focus on defense. It's really, really important that we ensure that the country is being governed. Kirstah has had to resign because his defense secretary said he was not looking after national security Whatever happens now, we need to make sure that national security is the number one agenda. And that means that Andy Burnham needs to explain where the money to fund our defense is coming from and he needs to cut welfare to pay for defence. Reform UK has called for an immediate general election. The Lib Dems say the public are sick of a merry go round of prime ministers and Scotland's first minister John Swinne says secure's armor was right to res ign. In other news, the Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat starting at nine o'clock on Wednesday morning. It covers parts of Central and Southern England and areas of Wales. The Met Office says the warning means the heat poses health risks to the wider population, not just vulnerable people, and existing amber warning also remains in place. The body of the American singer songwriter Oliver Tree has been returned to California after his death in a helicopter crash in Brazil. The thirty two year old was embarking on a world tour which included UK dates. His family says a charity will be set up in his name Dr. Oliver Tree's extremely epic grant for baby geniuses. And the musician Johnny Mar is putting the majority of his guitar collection up for sale. More than ninety of his instruments will be auctioned in September, including ones played on the Smith's This Charming Man and the Billy Elish song No Time to Die. He told the BBC why he was selling up.
