A man has appeared in court charged with five counts of attempted murder linked to terrorism following alleged anti Muslim attacks in Edinburgh. thirty six year old Lewis Haw is accuskedes of attacking five people in the city on Friday, while Scotland correspondent Katie Hunter reports. Two men were stabbed following prayers at a mosque in Edinburgh. Three others were attacked elsewhere in the city. Louis Hawkes appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court this afternoon. As well as five counts of attempted murder, aggravated by a connection to terrorism, the thirty six year old was also charged with assault and robbery, breach of the peace, and culpable and reckless conduct. He made no plea and was remanded in custody. Earlier today, Scotland's first minister met two victims of Friday's attacks in private at Broomhouse Mosque. John Sweeney said what happened should act as a wake up call for Scotland . The former mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has been sworn in as an MP and says he'll put his name forward to replace Azakir Stamara's prime minister. Zakir said this morning he was standing down as Labour leader as it was clear he lost the party's support. Sarah Champion is the Labour MP for Rotherham and says Andy Burnham's political experience would make him a good prime minister. What he's done with Greater Manchester and also from his experience of being a minister and a secret ary of state is he knows how to make the machine work. And that's the important thing because of course Kia hadn't been a minister before, so he wasn't bringing that experience. The Liberal Democrats say any replacement for Secure will not be able to fix the country's broken political system. The former UK has called for a general election. The Conservatives say the new Prime Minister must cut welfare to boost defense spending. The former leader of the DUP, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, has been found guilty of eighteen sex offences including one of rape. He's been told to expect a long jail term when he's sentenced in September. The Chin Fegn MP, John Fanukan says he hopes that the sentence will provide justice. Today's verdict provides accountability. We hope that justice then will follow in the next exercise that the court will have, but it will not undo the horrific abuse that they suffered or the horrific experience I can only imagine they had to go through in given evidence. The authorities in Canada say two people, including a police officer, have been killed in a shooting in Montreal . Police say the attacker is among the dead. Another officer was wounded in the incident which happened in a Jewish neighborhood of the city . And the Met Officers issued a red weather warning for extreme heat covering parts of central and southern England and areas of Wales from Wednesday morning. The warning means the heat could pose a risk to anyone, not just vulnerable people. An amber heat warning also remains in force.
