England beat Mexico three two in a nonstop enthralling encounter If you're just waking up, don't worry, we'll tell you all of the details Guinely I think that was the best England performance I've ever seen, and I don't say that lightly. It was magnificent Hello, you're listening to Cheatheet, a ten minute podcast on today's It's Monday the sixth of July. I'm Wilford Frost. I'm Safy Ridge. Also today, Nigel Farage is under more scrutiny. Over financial support he reportedly received from a convicted criminal They did it. England Beat Mexico Three, two. P pututting them in the quarter final at the World Cup where we're going to play Norway. I mean, we are running on almost no sleep Wf, wereon't we, but it is worth every second. It was a roller coaster. one hundred twelve minutes, which I'll be honest makes no sense to me because that eleven minutes of at a time felt like eleven years. I think I've never been so stressed as watching that But it was a magnificent performance from so many people on that pitch Bottom line The lads just stepped up to the plate. There were so many challenges Moving kickoff times, lots of talk about the hostile welcome, lots of talk about the altitude card for Jaral KQuaner, which was probablyrobably a red card, bit unfortunate. And you know, as you said, all this extra time stoppage time and they just did what they had to do to get over the line, glorious and inspiring. Yeah, it was. And like you say, there were just so many moments of that inspiration Bellingham Absolutely incredible. two goals He cleared a third goal, which was pretty much a goal He was broken by the end of the map. I know you're like, give the guy a bre. He was amazing. was ex He exhausted. Gordon He was fantastic, absolutely fantastic. And then I just take by everything I said about England's defence because for so long with ten men at altitude They were lions. there were lions on that on that pitch. You know, it's a slight shame want to suspended for the next game. moreore to come on that in a second Because you also sort of started to feel, okay, is this our starting back back for Johonn Stones, came off the bench, Dan Byne came off the bench, do well. So What I'd say there is like I think this this will change the tone, right? Everyone will now be totally behind the team and too cool whatever squad selection and issues initially options there now and we back him. We back him. them, you know further forward the midfield looks very settled now. the front three looks settled now I just think that I would in this heat I prefer to play Norway than Brazil, you know, in the heat of the game as well because you know, they'll be in the same boat as England. Norway beating Brazil to one earlier in the evening as well. So yeah in Miami, England versus Norway in the quarter final. And the whole mood has changed. You know, the skepticism. We're in the quarters now This is it. Yeah So Talk me through your last kind of twelve hours. What time did you go to bed? What time did you get up to sleep nice and early? and the delay was perfect for me. Watch snuck downstairs quietly. And as each goal went in, I tried to keep quiet. I did for the early two when we won the penalty I definitely yelped too loudly and was like, oh gosh, did I waake my son? Did I waake my wife and I got over there? We had a watch party at our house. No, amazing. And when I was getting my taxi into work, everyone else in my house went to the pub for the last hour. S. Absolutely glorious. And I didn't get the memo, that was meant to keep my shirt on for cheap Unbelievably expensive shirt. God, they really rack up the prices Let's On that note, pivot seamlessly some of the problems of this World Cup. Yeah. And I think it's been quite easy to step back and just be like, whatever, let's get on with it. It's great This is appppalling So Floria Balligan By the way, former Asenal English Born striker that's USA star player in the tournament so far got sent off in the last game. be suspended for their next game with no formal way for it to be appealed and overturned Tel Sries, been overturned Donald Trump' saying he appealed to Infantino directly himself It is just Atlling Yeah I'm 's I agree. I don't really know what to say. It's so bad. And look I think it was a soft red, right? You know So I understand why the fans are frustrated But like I say, there is no formal route to overturn this This is not okay. This is not how the sport and football is done. and I mean, they're not even hiding it. They're not even hiding that it's literally because, right? Donald Trump called up infantino. I mean, Infantino, by the way, I mean What is he doing? And obviously, the White House would say that Donald Trump called to understand the rules, not to appeal it, just for his own understanding You know, there's also something I think is quite worrying that Visit tone of general this is No formal poll, just looking at X peoplee celebrating this. I think that's like a real like late stage of empire national sentiment. Oh great, we've got this No. obbviously against the rules free handout. like that is not It's not a sort of attractive sentiment to see on display. And Also, there's now a precedent joke side Gerald KQuan's red card, which which was ad because they haven't said Floren Balligan didn't deserve to be sent off They've just said his suspension is postponed. Yeah. Well, get in there, let's try and get us done, Isn't it Stamm's got as much sway with Infantino as Trump. Well, we'll find out when. But not sure he does. And also the other thing is, The USA have been brilliant this tourament, right? You know it's been I know. The controversy aside over this road card it's been an amazing worldld cup. The team have played brilliantly and this takes a shine off it. I agree. If they beat Belgium now with a ballad and goal. Yeah, everyveryone's going to be like, oh well, it was just because of this absolute you know skull duggy that went on rather than just celebrating what would have been a good result. It takes the shine off it. I know. It's bad for everyone. It is FIFA Metizing drinks, breaks, drinks, breaks, which fubo we loved in the Mexico game. Yeah just for a side. I have to say I will say let's just get to the next hydration break. and then I was like, what am I saying? But you know that and extra money on corporate ticket sales or whatever. Yeah you can look, you might not agree with it, but you can look past that This is Impossible to look past and utterly, utterly appalling. Yeah It. So there is a bit of news outside football. Nigel Farage, there had been these mounting allegations, of course, the five billion pound gift that he was given for one And now we've got these allegations that he failed to declare financial support that was given to him by a convicted criminal So this is reporting in the Sunday Times. George Cotterll gave Nigel Farge support for security and social media staff in the year before he entered Parliament. He didn't declare it, right? That's the other part of this too. And George Clottrll admitted account of wire fraud in the US in twenty seventeen. He's a longstanding friend of Nigel Farage, was also involved in UKI as well. Nigel Farge has come out to defend the claims. He says he is a victim of an establishment hitch jop I think this particular development is more a case of cumulative issues for him to fight off at the moment and doesn't rank in the same way that this High million pound gift just before the election from a Thai based crypto billionaire does. both now we wait to see more recent one if the parliamentary watchdog investigate it like they are the five million pound crypto gift and to see results from those investigations, which could possibly lead to a by election, there's quite a few hurdles to get there, but unlikely I think that the damage from the just the obptjectics of A five million pound gift far supersedes this, but it's all cumulative. And the other thing I'd add as well is there's been quite a lot of pushback from Niger Fider supporters towards the journists who broak the Eesscapeable Pgrment and If you want to be Prime Minister, you have to accept a level of scrutiny over stuff like this. You absolutely do. And I think An insinuation that Gabriel is what I've seen described as like a labour stooge is laughable, given that by the way he was also the one who broke all the kissed armour gifts as well, right? It's the joke. Sow everyone yesterday saying It's a story only in the Sunday in a Labour supporting paper, which I was like Yeah, yeah, good one. A week long state funeral with various processions have begun for Iran's suupreme leader, Ayatollah Alk Khameni, who was, of course, killed by US and Israeli strikes In the first days of the war in back in February, millions, I mean, tens of millions are expected to gather over the coming days as he lies in state initially And of course, it has seen big protests already in the early days of this this week long say funeral of massive massive protests and chance of death to America and death to Israel. And I think, you know Clearly It is a display of the way that whilst that might not be representative of all eighty or ninety million citizens of Iran The the sort of sentiment behind uniting behind your flag when you've been fought you a war against America is certainly going to apply to a decent portion of the population impossible for us to know. If if it's a majority or not You'. a defeense St story to finally update you on. The Defense Secretary Dan Jarvis has visited British troops who've been deployed alongside NATO forces just off Iceland So for the first time, they've been conducting these air defense operations with F thirty five jets from a European aircraft carrier. So this is all part of trying to bolster security as concerns over Russian activity continue to grow. one thousand five hundred
