O Lord, open our lips , and our mouths shall proclaim your praise . Send your Holy Spirit upon us , and clothe us with power from on high. Alleluia . Blessed are you, creator God, to you be praise and glory for ever . As your spirit moved over the face of the waters, bringing light and life to your creation . Pour out your spirit on us today , that we may walk as children of light, and by your grace reveal your presence. Blessed be God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit . Blessed be God for ever . The night has passed, and the day lies open before us. Let us pray with one heart and mind . As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you, now and forever . Amen . Psalm twenty-eight The Lord is my strength and my shield . To you I call, O Lord my rock, be not deaf to my cry , lest if you do not hear me, I become like those who go down to the pit . Hear the voice of my prayer when I cry out to you . When I lift up my hands to your holy of holies , do not snatch me away with the wicked, with the evildoers , who speak peaceably with their neighbors while malice is in their hearts , repay them according to their deeds , and according to the wickedness of their devices , reward them according to the work of their hands, and pay them their just desserts . They take no heed of the Lord's doings, nor of the works of his hands . Therefore shall he break them down, and not build them up. Blessed be the Lord, for he has heard the voice of my prayer . The Lord is my strength and my shield . My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart dances for joy, and in my song will I praise him . The Lord is the strength of his people , a safe refuge for his anointe d. Save your people and bless your inheritance. Shepherd them and carry them for ever . The Lord is my strength and my shield. Let us pray . Hear us, shepherd of your people, forgive us our sins, and in a world of pretences, make us true in heart and mind, through Jesus Chr ist our Lord . Amen . The first reading is from the book of Numbers, beginning at chapter 27, verse twelve . The Lord said to Moses, Go up this mountain of the Aber im range, and see the land that I've given to the Israelites. When you've seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people , as your brother Aaron was, because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zinn, when the congregation quarreled with me. You did not show my holiness before their eyes at the waters . These are the waters of Meribath Kadesh in the wilderness of sin . Moses spoke to the Lord, saying, let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh , appoint someone over the congregation, who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep without a shepherd . So the Lord said to Moses, Take Joshua, son of Nan, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand upon him. Have him stand before Eazar the priest and all the congregation, and commission him in their sight . You shall give him some of your authority, so that all the congregation of the Israelites may obey . But he shall stand before Eliazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the decision of the Urin before the Lord . At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the Israelites with him, the whole congregation. So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eliazar the priest and the whole congregation . He laid his hands on him and commissioned him as the Lord had directed through Moses . The Spirit of God fills the whole world . Hallelujah . I will take you from the nations. And gather you from all the countries . I will sprinkle clean water upon you , and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses , a new heart I will give you, and put a new spirit within you , and I will remove from your body the heart of stone , and give you a heart of flesh . You shall be my people , and I will be your God . Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit , as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever . Amen . The Spirit of God fills the whole world . Hallelujah . The second reading is from the Gospel according to Luke, beginning at chapter eight, verse forty . Now when Jesus returned the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. Just then there came a man named Jairus, a leader of the synagogue. He fell at Jesus' feet and begged him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying . As he went, the crowds pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years . And though she had spent all she had on physicians, no one could cure her. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his clothes, and immediately her hemorrhage stopped . Then Jesus asked, Who touched me ? When all denied it, Peter said Master, the crowds surround you and press in on you . But Jesus said, Someone touched me, for I noticed that power had gone out from me . When a woman saw that she could not remain hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him and how she had been immediately healed. He said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well . Go in peace . While he was still speaking, someone came from the leader's house to say, Your daughter's dead. Do not trouble the teacher any longer . When Jesus heard this, he replied, Do not fear, only believe, and she will be saved. When he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him, except Peter, John and James, under Charles' father and mother. They were all weeping and wailing for her . But he said, Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping . And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and called out, Child , get up . Her spirit returned and she got up at once. Then he directed them to give her something to eat. Her parents were astounded, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened. For the holy spirit was Enjoy us to follow it by this for the go Watch it for the court and flat all sweet climbs My hol y spirit filled our hearts for the world people . What of this one like if some one was For my cre w was me for like for me It is filled for the old people . I think that's why all the Christ has gone up on high and has led captivity captive Hallelujah . Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel , who has come to his people and set them free . He has raised up for us a mighty Saviour , born of the house of his servant David , through his holy prophets God promised of old, to save us from our enemies, from the hands of all that hate us , to show mercy to our ancestors , and to remember his holy covenant. This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham, to set us free from the hands of our enemies , free to worship him without fear, holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life . And you, child shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way , to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of all their sins , in the tender compassion of our God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us , to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death , and to guide our feet into the way of peace . Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit , as it was in the beginning, is now and shall be for ever . Amen . Christ has gone up on high and has led captivity captive In union with the risen Christ and in the power of the promised spirit, let us pray to the Father . For God's royal priesthood, for empowerment by the Spirit. Let us pray to the Lord . Eternal God, giver of love and power, your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into all the world to preach the gospel of his kingdom. Confirm us in this mission and help us to live the good news we proclaim through Jesus Christ our Lord . Amen . For those who wait on God, that they may find renewal, let us pray to the Lord . Come, creator Spirit, Source of Life, sustain us when our hearts are heavy and our wells have run dry. For you are the Father's gift with him who is our living water, Jesus Christ our Lord . Amen . For all people, that they may acknowledge the kingdom of the ascended Christ, let us pray to the Lord. O God of all the nations, in the face of Jesus Christ your light and glory have blazed forth. With all your people, may we make known your grace. And walk in the ways of peace, for your name's sake . Amen . For the earth, for productivity and for fruit ful harvests, let us pray to the Lord . Almighty God, whose will it is that the earth and the sea should bear fruit in due season. Bless the labours of those who work on land and sea. Grant us a good harvest and the grace always to rejoice in your fatherly care . Through Jesus Christ our Lord . Amen . Finally, for all who are struggling with broken relationships, let us pray to the Lord. Compassionate God , you know the secrets of every heart. In your loving mercy, bring to your table all who are fearful and broken, all who are wounded and needy, that our hungers may be satisfied in the city of your peace, through Christ who is our peace . Amen . In a moment of silence, let us commend ourselves and all for whom we have prayed to the mercy and protection of God . O God the King of Glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven. We beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spir it, one God now and for ever . Amen . Being made one by the power of the Spirit, as our Saviour taught us , so we pray . Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us to day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us . Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil . For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever . Amen . May the Spirit kindle in us the fire of God's love . Amen . Let us bless the Lord. Alleluia. Alleluia. Thanks be to God . Alleluia . Alleluia
