O God, make speed to save us . O Lord, make haste to help us. Send your Holy Spirit upon us , and clothe your people with power from on high Hallelujah O Lord My God har sh for great ness . The Lord my God shall make my darkness to be bright. I love you, O Lord my strength. The Lord is my crag, my fortress and my deliverer . My God, my rock in whom I take refuge , my shield, the horn of my salvation, and my stronghold . I cried to the Lord in my anguish , and I was saved from my enem ies . The cords of death entwined me , and the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me . The cords of the pit fastened about me , and the snares of death entangled me . In my distress I called upon the Lord , and cried out to my God for hel p . He heard my voice in his temple , and my cry came to his ears , the earth trembled and quaked , the foundations of the mountains shook, they reeled because he was angry . Smoke rose from his nostrils, and a consuming fire went out of his mouth . Burning co als blazed forth from him . He parted the heavens and came down , and thick darkness was under his feet. He rode upon the cherubim and flew. He came flying on the wings of the wind . He made darkness his covering round about him . Dark waters and thick clouds his pavilion from the brightness of his presence through the clouds burst hailstones and coals of fire . The Lord also thundered out of heav en . The Most High uttered his voice with hailstones and coals of fire . He sent out his arrows and scattered them . He hurled down lightnings and put them to flight . The springs of the ocean were seen, and the foundations of the world uncovered. At your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of your displeasure , He reached down from on high and took me . He drew me out of the mighty waters He delivered me from my strong enemy , from foes that were too mighty for me . They came upon me in the day of my trouble , but the Lord was my upholder . He brought me out into a place of liberty . He rescued me because he delighted in me . The Lord rewarded me after my righteous dealing . According to the cleanness of my hands he recompensed me . Because I had kept the ways of the Lord , and had not gone wickedly away from my God , for I had an eye to all his laws , and did not cast out his commandments from me . I was also wholehearted before him , and kept myself from iniquity. Therefore the Lord rewarded me after my righteous dealing , and according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight . With the faithful you show yourself faithful . With the true you show yourself true . With the pure you show yourself pure , but with the crooked you show yourself perver se , for you will save a lowly people , and bring down the high looks of the proud . It is God who girds me about with strength and makes my way perfect . He makes my feet like hinds feet , so that I tread surely on the he ights . He teaches my hands to fight , and my arms to bend a bow of bronze . You have given me the shield of your salvation . Your right hand upholds me, and your grace has made me great. You enlarge my strides beneath me . Yet my feet do not slide . I will pursue my enemies and overtake them , nor turn again until I have destroyed them . I will smite them down so they cannot rise . They shall fall beneath my feet . You have girded me with strength for the battle . You will cast down my enemies under me . You will make my foes turn their backs upon me , and I shall destroy them that hate me . They will cry out, but there shall be none to help them . They will cry to the Lord, but he will not answer . I shall beat them as small as the dust on the wind. I will cast them out as the mire in the streets . You will deliver me from the strife of the peoples . You will make me the head of the nations . A people I have not known shall serve me. As soon as they hear me, they shall obey me . Strangers will humble themselves before me . The The foreign peoples will lose heart , and come trembling out of their strongholds . The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock . Praised be the God of my salvation , even the God who vindicates me , and subdues the peoples under me , you that deliver me from my enemies, you will set me up above my foes . From the violent you will deliver me . Therefore will I give you thanks, O Lord among the nations , and sing praises to your name , to the one who gives great victory to his King, and shows faithful love to his anointed, to David, and his seed for ever . The Lord my God shall make my darkness to be bright . Let us pray. From your royal throne, O God, you sent your living word to pierce the gloom of oppression. So in our souls' night, come with your saving help, and penetrate our darkness with the rays of your glory in Jesus Christ our Lord . Amen . The first reading is from the book of Deuteronomy, beginning at chapter 31, verse 1. When Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, he said to them, I am now a hundred and twenty years old. I am no longer able to get about, and the Lord has told me, you shall not cross over this Jordan . The Lord your God Hsimelf will cross over before you. Joshua also will cross over before you as the Lord promised. The Lord will do to them as he did to Sihon and Og , the kings of the Amorites, and to their land when he destroyed them. The Lord will give them over to you, and you shall deal with them in full accord with the command that I have given to you. Be strong and bold, have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you? He will not fail you or forsake you. Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: Be strong and bold, for you are the one who will go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their ancestors to give them, and you will put them in possession of it. It is the Lord who goes before you, he will be with you, he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Then Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests , the sons of Levi, who carried the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Isra el. Moses commanded them: every seventh year, in the scheduled year of remission, during the festival of Booths, when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Assemble the people, men, women, and children, as well as the aliens residing in your towns, so that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God , and to observe diligently all the words of this law, and so that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land that you are crossing over the Jordan to possess . The Spirit of the Father, who raised Christ Jesus from the dead, gives life to the people of God . Hallelujah . The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death . All who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God . For we have received the Spirit that enables us to cry. Abba, Father . The Spirit Himself bears witness that we are children of God . And if God's children, then heirs of God . If heirs of God, then fellow heirs with Christ . Since we suffer with him now, that we may be glorified with him . These sufferings that we now endure are not worth comparing to the glory that shall be revealed . For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God . Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and shall be for ever . Amen . The Spirit of the Father, who raised Christ Jesus from the dead, gives life to the people of God . Hallelujah The second reading is from the first letter of John, beginning at chapter two, verse eighteen . Children, it is the last ho ur. As you have heard that Antichrist is coming, so now many Antichrists have come . From this we know that it is the last hour . They went out from us, but they did not belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But by going out they made it plain that none of them belongs to us. But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and all of you have knowledge. I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and you know that no lie comes from the truth . Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Every one who confesses the Son has the Father also . Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you . If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he has promised us I write these things to you concerning those who would deceive you. As for you, the anointing that you received from him abides in you and, so you do not need any one to teach you . But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, abide in him And now little children, abide in him, so that when he is revealed we may have confidence, and not be put to shame before him at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that every one who does right has been born of him . From this day all generations will call me blessed. The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. He has mercy on those who fear him . From generation to generation . He has shown strength with his arm , and has scattered the proud in their conceit, casting down the mighty from their thrones, and lifting up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things , and sent the rich away empty . He has come to the aid of his servant Israel to remember his promise of mercy , the promise made to our ancestors, to Abraham and his children for ever . Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever . Amen . How excellent is your name in all the world . And we continue to pray as part of the global wave of prayer for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. In the words of the collect for thy kingdom come . Almighty God, your ascended Son has sent us into the world to preach the good news of your kingdom. Inspire us with your spirit and fill our hearts with the fire of your love, that all who hear your word may be drawn to you through Jesus Christ our L ord . Amen . O God, the King of Glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven. We beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone befor e, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever . Amen . Being made one by the power of the Spirit, as our Saviour taught us, so we pray . Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
