I don't want to spoil anything, but there's some Tough ones on this one Yeah, it says so Um One of those tough ones. We're toduce some right now It's another returning champion. It's Renon Hirsberg. Hey. Good to be here. Yeah, I'm excited to do this. Last time I completely missed it because I just had a kid I don't care as much about the kids so I was able to remember. Right. now that the kids a few weeks older, those the ropes I rubs. No They grow up so fast.ack to prioritize movies. I is hard your overall negligence. So this is no big deal. just p No big deal for an hour. Exactly. Exactly But yeah, it's good to be here. I'm excited. ye Yeah. Th these are, you know I don't like a tenense slide up It's an intense lineup and still probably relaxing as compared to care of a child Nice moment of freedom, honestly. Well U and we already know from the introduction the beginning who the third guest is. so let's move on. No, I'm kidding Rigning champion. another reigning champion Always and forever champion. It's Sam the M L bean etceta. How's it going sam Oh, it's good. Doug, hi on Hi Johnny,'s pleure be here. It's good to hear your voice, Sam. Yeah No, Renan, I'm a big fan for a variety of reasons. One, I think you're a terrific comic, but two, your last name is Hirsberg. I know. It's a kinship in gllorious We've got a shared shared bond there. I mean sure, my Hirsberg spelled it a little differently, but that doesn't matter Was it spelled differently? Oh, I mean I think it was HI R S It's the closest. I'm a huge fan too, of course,m, you know,. love your stuff all the way from Fres and geeks, but its it's the closest I've ever had a character. have my life thing. It's so huge and Racket yells it He does Hbg.'s Damnit Hursburg. Yeah, Damnit Hurbg. You should make that your ring tone if you haven't or or put it at the beginning of What at the beginning of all of your promotional materials Yeah your promotional reels Now you gott to play a character named Rana putut that in your contractor. Wait, is it R on and not Ran on It can go either way. Ran on R on. Yeah, it's open to interpretation. Well, it's not looking like a piece of art on the wall. is the way you prefer it I don't I don't I'm cool either. it's like it's Hebrew and you can in English you can't do gutterural sound like rah on, like no one like so it's like, It can kind of go wherever want, I feel like because he's accepting people's limitations, Sam. I better man than I am. I can't do the. I can't pronounce my own name correctly. so I can't I can't expect other people to, you know? Wow. It'd be hypocritical But yeah, it's, you know We we've discussed this before. so that's why I try not to worry about it Mm But you do want to say people's name the right way, you know what I mean? you know, there's got to be some people you know, when they find out a little too late in the game, they get upset. That's why another reason why you let people mispronounce your name is because you know, they're going to be more upset about it than you when they find out they've been fucking it up for four years I think people really want to get the name right. And there's a part of me that enjoys the frustration of just saying you can sayever you want because I know it like really upsets people deeply because they' like, no, I want to get it right. I don't want to fuck it up. And I just like I enjoy Well yeah you could just keep chaking it up keep changing it up in subtle way so that they se it wrong.. Johnny, how do people mispronounce your name? Jonie, you know Ohool J J Tler I hate that one Oh Just ignore the A altogether. I've been introduced on stage as Johnny Tyler and I tell you what. Yeah, I'm sorry I did that U Thanks for being here, all y'all. And before we play some games today, I'd like each of you to you know what, recommend A movie will star with Johnny Tyler. Please recommend one movie. You know, I just got around to that Frankenstein I know. had Dloro one Yeah, no, the other one that came out recently. you know, the have they don't No they did have another one come out since that one That one probably wasn't as good. This was more the lady than the monster, but This one was great and I washed it in chunks. It's kind of long So I did some laundry, came back to it took a nap came back to I watched like six chunks Like a limited my own limited series. Or you could just imagine like that you were reading the book It was but I loved it. that dude. from Star Wars. He's fucking awesome, in it? And if you're just like in the mood for like this wait, Was this the first trivia question? St Do we buzz in? Oscar Isa that's that de. Yeah, he' And then the big Frankenstein monster like grew long hair, looked like a Dooby brother. It was I don't know, man. I really liked it. moved me I related It It w for Frankenstein. It won a few technical awards at the Oscars because it is a sumptuous production And yeah, I really enjoyed it, but it does I I think you almost need to take breaks because when I saw it in the cinema There's a point in the movie where your story feels like it's over and then they go But let's go back and tell you the story again from the monster's point of view Yeah. So it's so it feels longer than it is, but it is really good He should have just made a miniseries. He didn't like what you werere saying.im Limited series. I would have ass. Yeah, I think that would have been cool. They could have had different cliffhangers. I would think I would think he would enjoy putting a cliffhanger in everyvery few minutes. . That's it.s that is actually the present. You actually got it. Could you rec recommend a movie please I guess I gotta recomm but I just saw obsession You like it? I really liked it quite a bit. I fig it for a movie to be made by a twenty six year old M for me to like that It not be jealous, you know But it has to be like really good and it definitely hit that it passed that test. I thought it was veryery unique and uniquely unique story and like kind of funny end And yeah, dark and yeah, I thought it was great. I highly recommend it. So go I mean everyone's I feel like everyone' recommending it. but it's you know, it's definitely had a lot of talk and that's probably why it's you know, had a pretty decent weekend at the box office some people were pointing to, look, an original story did well at the box office and then another person points and says Yeahah, but it was horror and horror you're cheating you do a horror movie Beick kids are just gonna to go, you know? You don't need big actors. you know, No. But like I'm sick of the buzz is annoying because everyone's like, o my God, it's unprecedented. A low budget horror movie that made money. And it's like, that's That's every year. That's why they make them because they're low budget. But it is potentially make money. It is great. It's like hereditary meets like a Halloween Simpsons episode Uh and it's just it's it's great. Yeah. I loved it All right, well we're really for the month of May, we're have some really dark choices so far. Sam you have so many more, you know A little more of a aaffodils Yeah. So this film, I believe, w best picture for last year, O battle after another which of course I saw in Yeah, I saw in the theaters, but it's on TV now it's on cable And I was getting around to recommending one. I don't think I've had an opportunity to recommend it since it came out Can I change mine to the Godfather directly? There you go. But here's it guys. Godfather, Godfather too Sams is Jack Jack the Robin Williams movie? Yeah, I gave you guys three Copola movies though. Three Cpos. Better than Godfather three, honestly. Noope, no don't don't shit on Godfather three. It's It's misunderstood. Godfather three Defender? I am a Godfather three defefender, but here's what I think is crap is that Hoda that he just put together over COVID. He went back and recut part three to make it tighter Oh, really Oh, it's I hate it. I hate it so much. That's so funny. It's like the first director's cut that makes it shorter. It's like Exactly. who does that? Maybe if it was shorter, people would have liked to. That's what I think he thought. But here's what I'd like to point out. Godfather Part threeI was nominated for Best Picture and why it not Were it not a Godfather movie? Were it not trying to live up to Godfather partart one and two, if it were just some regular old mob movie, I think it would have been much better well received I agree. It's not as bad as people see. It's your probleise Piccino's like he became a different actor by that point Like he became the new one who has like a southern accent for some reason. Yeah the loud out first guy. And and then he's put into that. So he's doing the hha Yeah as a guy who's like the exact opposite, you know, Michael Just what I thought I was out only back in Not exactly why. Why? I don't know why Kevin Pollock just got on the line. I also I've been hanging out with him for twenty fucking years now. There's nothing I can do about it Nothing I can do do. If he doesn' it in president, you do that. It's part of who I am now. It's part of my being' elded Its very upsetting. I do like the Sam so just over COVID, like Like that just happened. Yeah, six years ago. You guys saw that, right? A couple of weeks ago when COVID was happening. Well, that's why I'm so you know, that's great that he got around to one battle after another just six months after it came out. No, I'm telling No, again, you're asking me to recommend something and I have not previously recommended this film. And it has come to my attention that plenty of people have not yet seen it. So perhaps one of them was waiting for a time to see it I think you're playing another one of your games I don't play game. Next time you're on, you're gonna recommend two guns and then the next time you're gonna to say three amigos. It's a. I can assure you this is no game. It was on TV. I watched it over the weekend and thought, man, this is a good flick That's all That's all it happened, Doug, I swear to you It is one of great movies And you had just really gotten around to it or you had seen it? No, I saw it in theaters. I saw it when it opened, but I hadn't rewatched it since then and now it's on HBO. I recommending the rewatch. You're recommending the rewatch. You always watch everything twice before you recommend it You have to be sure Yeah I do think it's better as a rewatch. when you I think I've watched it like maybe three or four times now, which is, I guess a whole day, if you combine it all, but like it's It's better the more you I mean, it is like it is It's better each time you watch it There's a lot there's a lot to enjoy there that you miss the first go round For sure Yeah, and it's, you know, the tonal changes and stuff like The first time I saw it I was like, am I supposed to be in suspense about Leonardo's predicament or am I supposed to think it's hilarious And it turns out it's a little both Mmm Yeah You know? Yes,. Yes. So like it is interesting because I did see it a couple times in theaters and its is kind of fun how the audience really does kind of like come to life and laugh during just a few scenes. but they were running around calling that movie a comedy and a satire and I'm not really sure that I I'm on board with that. I thought it was more like a just a, you know, a thriller action I didn't feel like they had that much to say. But on that note Um Thank you for these amazing. I can't believe you guys, I don't know where you pulled these movies from, these underdog movies. most popular movie right now and a popular movie last year. But I will definitely be seeing none of those because I've seen them all already. We'll be right back Today's episode is brought to you in part by Shopify. Because called RIP Rex Read Oh Yeah U film critic Rex Reed passed away a few days ago and love him or hate him. you had to hate him. Look up the word Look up the word unctious in the dictionary and you'll find a definition of unctious because what did you expect It's a dictionary. I will say this I have always found him to be way off base in his opinions and whenever I happened to agree with him, I hated myself for it. So I will quote one of his snippy snappy snarky reviews. Oh no. And then you do have to guess which movie he was reviewing out of all the fs that were released while he was alive Go on and taking shots at everybody. Johnny guess gets a guess first. If he misses then Ron gets a shot and if he misses then Sam Aam gets a guess. And the first re to get two of these right or the most after five is the winner Can I ask a question real quick about it Please, can we do we get to know when he retired from film criticism or no? or is that something? I believe he kept at it til pretty recently. Oh, okay. All right. I think for some reason, I feel like the last time something he reviewed irritated me was he went and saw Beetlejuice on Broadway a few years back and his review was just it was like, what did he even watch That's the thing is he got a reputation for reviewing things that he hadn't even seen. He'd just write a bunch of insulting things about the people involved which U Okay, so anyway, as you can imagine this game is not it's not going to be easy. Oh really? Or is it Too easy. Johnny, here's the first one A load of moronic and incoherent garbage. What movie was he talking about Oh man somebody to j. He have a tendency to be very specific. Like, if you know you know, it's clear what he's talking about. a load of moronic and incoherent garbage All right. well, that is one of his more famous quotes. Hm I think I mean I'm gonna go with a hamburger. Hamburger the motion Picture I love it. It's totally something that you would have said about that his reviews were kind of cut and paste, just a bunch of insulting words Uh Renon, do you have an idea what you think this might be? I mean, this is tough. You're basically like, this movie sucks. Which movie is it? you know? Yeah I think the next one will be a little bit more have a little bit more clues in it. A load of moronic and incoherent Garbage Mm Um otic and incoherent garbage. Maybe apply to a movie that you feel is exactly that. likeike you just thought was moronic erotic incoherent. I mean Um H. I don't know I guess I guess I'm having to Burn a movie now.m gu That's what I'm trying to get you do Um Well, you know you like obsession. What don't you like a load of maronic and incoherent garbage. U I don't know. wouldould it be let's let's go with u Uh, what's it called? u I'm gonna have to get inception Inception Eception is bl. It's not. Is's it coherent? No, it depends on who you're talking to. The people who got it You the person who are actually smart. Sam Okay. now I want to go on record Okay as saying the answer I'm about to give is not how I personally feel because it's not about my personal belief in the film. R. It's about whether or not Rex Reed felt this way about the film.ure Okay. I want to make that abundantly clear All right K kangaroo jack Oh man. He famously hated kangaroo jack. famamously hated it. I thought it should have been Kangaroo was in it And but that was not the that's not the answer this time That's not an That' a terrific yes, Sam. Thank you so much. The movie he's talking about is Mulhoolen Drive Oh, o God Yeah. much beloved Didchil. to you, John All right, let's go. This piece of pretentious paralyzing twaddle is the latest. in a series of head scratchers by the incompetent self delusional M Night Samalon There could be a lot of moveies here. That does that helps, so that's a clue Um What was that one where there in the elevator They call her Devil I think so, yeah D I'm gonna go devil. I don't think that's that is not the answer Is that even the fucking movie? You had me convinced? No, I think you're right. He produced thatvie. I don't think he directed it.. Well, there you go. All right M R on. Can I hear the quote one more time just s. This piece of pretentious paralyzing twaddle is the latest in a series of head scratchers by the incompetent self Dellusional I could have just given you, it's the latest M night shamalan Oh. Oh l that night Chamalan. Oh, when he wrote this review, it was the latest one. Oh yeah Well, I think I'm thinking of pretentious, I would go with the u What's it called? The was Paul Giamati, the lady in the lake? Is that what it's called? Am I gonna No That's not what it's called But is that the answer? That's not how game shows work. the woman, Iait, hold on, I can't tell you yes or no to the aner what you're thinking it is I'll just go to the village there No it's like village Sam I feel like you were trying to help him. Is it Lady in the water? It's Lady in the water, yes. Lake was even more specific. I would have guessed the happening by the way before Lady in the water I just always forot. Lake lady. Lady the lady I feel like that was like definitely the more pretentious. That was when he was getting really Yeah pretentious. No, that was that was definitely the clue right there and you know, and also also that, you know He had Rex had had enough of MI Tombalon. So you know he had to sit through a few of them before he really Lets put his foot down. It'd be so funny if the answer was six cents. He made a. He had made a movie before.. He made it one with Rosie O'Donnell. Yeah. Wide awake, right? Wide awake? I think it's. All right guys, it's Johnny's turn first on this next one. Here we go, Joob It The biggest pile of incomprehensible gibberish to hit the screen since M Night Shamalan's Lady in the water Oh man. Well, it can't be Philadelphia because I came't back from here Let's u Let's see here Lady in the Water came out, what two thousand five, maybe? two thousand six? Sure So then this is something that came out something after that after And how long he held his grudge against that particular most picture. Could have been the next week or could have been years. Could have been a while. Yeah Yeah Um it it's one battle after another. Yeah Um, Okay. Hm This is This is tough because well, let me give you another clue you're not off all the movies I want to clip That was the clue. You're not going to get You cut out on. Oh sorry sorry, the clue is you're not going to get it. Um Yeah. Um, okay. Yeah, that that does narrow down. Yeah So just say a movie. Yeah, I'm gonna go with The Force awakens. I love it. I love it. That'd be such a weird thing to go back and back on Amnights Chimalon. But the answer is still pretty weird too. Renon, do you have any Do that clue apply to me too No, I take it back. You are going to get it This is annoying, but can you just read the quote one more time I'm sorry. Yeah likel incomprehensible gibberish to hit the screen since I'm my Shamon's lady in the water It can't be Enight Samalan, right? because he wouldn't have said Enight Samalan he would have said his No it would been said itinces his last. So the biggest gu compprehensible ad in the water. A Inception Nice Nice. Those a good go to on all of these I think. No, that's not exception, Sam Okay, so wait a minute. I was going to guess the happening, which I believe was his follow up to Lady in the Water, But it sounds like you just said this is not an M Night Samalan film. I thought happening was before Lady in the Water, But yeah, I wouldn't say Nightamamal. He wouldn't give him the possessive M Night Walan's Lady in the water. He'd be he'd be like since his last disaster. Right, right Oh no. U than I have u It your kangaroo Jack. It's a wild seat Both of you stuck with those answers and seception and favor J. It could pay off Those are both terrific examples of misunderstood cinema Man, this is so funny though, that you say inception because This particular movie that Rx Reed was talking about is the Pstige. So it wasn't Christopher Nolan ca her head. R on, you were so close. But I think the prerestige was great and I actually think that's not in coherent. I think it'sceptptistically coherent prestge works. Well that's you know good thing that Rex Reed is six feet under se. You don't have to deal with it. You don't have to deal with his wild opinions U, Okay, so u Nobody got that one we're back to Johny Um ust you can just guess quicker this time because this is another one. There's no reason for anybody to figure out the answer. Great. it's just interesting what the answer is. Its pretty close, but yeah. makes you want to never see a movie again as long as you. he did not want to see another movie after this one until yesterday I'm going to go with I'm gonna go with mother. It's perfect plan I could see him being very upset by my mother withith an exclamation point, but no, that's not the answer. Renon. This is really how I felt this inception, but I don't know. I'll go with You never want to see a movie ever again. God, that's got to be something Bad. Ah Um I don't know ten it. I have That's fun that you're really giving it to Christopher Noan. I'm just following that theme now. I have to. have to commit to it I saw today that Christopher Nolan has never sent an email. Oh yeah, yeah Yeah, what a life. Okay That was. Obviously that is two thousand ones, not another team. There he goes again, plug in his own shit. That's wrong, man. You know what? I want to change my movie recommendation anwer. Let me guess, impulse It's just called pulse. Oh right. I was talking aw of my decision to watch it Nice. U This one, it makes you never want to see a movie again as long as you live is a movie that I've just been reading L there's a certain A kind of person, the kind of person that loves one battle after another and loves what was the other recent movie that all the men fell in love with? Oh once upon a time in Hollywood You know, there's these movies that just they come along and and you know, you don't want to talk badly about them in front of any any man because they just fall in love with them. And that's what this movie is becoming strangely. I've tried to watch it several times over the years and I really want to appreciate it more than I do, but I can't. it's called Speed Racer First's called Speed Racer ed Rayo Wachasski film. Yeah. Which is like an excellent adaptation of the cartoon. I just don't think I like the cartoon to begin with So then all this all this money and special effects they threw at it just don't I don't knowough It just doesn't work for me, but some people love it this was Jeff Bridges Is that the one of Jeffid? No, it was, u as a file her Nil H. Nmil Hirh was Speed Racer I don't know the name of the gentleman who played the monkey A Professor Fred J. Muggs All right We're back to John and How long is't go? Doug, do you have any fans in their eighties? What? Do you have any listeners in their eighties Whom I kept my friend J. Mugg's reference. And not like Dragonon or something? No, was like he was the co host on the todayoday Show.oday show the early days of today in the fifties and sixties. He was one of Yeah. Yeah, he was on there until his mother got abducted and then then he left the show. No Okay This is a Rex Reed review. I walked out at the point where he grabbed a pair of syrup scissors and cut his tongue off in blood sply one I know. Yeah, but Johnny, do you know it? donon't, u I don't. That didn't happen in Willard, did it No I mean, I can't say I walked out the point where He grabbed a pair of sharp scissors I'm glad that Rx point out the scissors were sharp. adultissors horrifying cut his tongue off in blood spattering close ups What are you going to do? takeake him do a long shot? Like what does he want? I actually do I do There was that movie Speak No Evil. Oh, that happens in that movie. Dn't that happen in that advice not That's why they can't speak It's to the little girl Oh Yeah, even better Yeah. Is that your guess, Johnny? Yeah Brong Rinong. Well, I assume this is When I consider one of the greatest movies ever. Old boy? It is old boy. O Which old boy. Which old boy? I'll tell you, Sam The one that started at all O chen with yeah. Yeah, one of the But but the movie's like over at that point. So he's just walking out like a minute before the credits. Well, you know, like he also has to he also has to spoil it for everybody by saying what happened right before I walked out when Leonardo Diaprio died titanic. I was done with it at that point Well, there iss a lot left after that. The lady has to That example. Yeah. There's a lot more time with Bill Paxton. All right, Sam. the tie all you got to do is this is prew wrritten H As you know All you got to do is guess this last one if you miss then Renon gets a chance All right But don I don't think if both of you this will be shocked Ready You won't find What does this say You won' find Oh, You won't find a landfill brringing up landfill. you w Find a landfill anywhere more offensive than Spike Lee's stupid remake Yeah That's old boy. It is old boy. Okay. It is But he heed the original. so what does it matter He's like like well, I mean, there's no way he would have liked that, I guess. Right. But that is so funny that like I just love the idea that Rex Reed had to sit through that movie twice, essentially. And I wonder if he walked out before the scissors the second time. I guess I think he walked out and fell asleep during a lot of movies and then just wrote a bunch insults and then sent it in. But so congratulations, Sam won that game, But as we all know It just means that Sam gets to go first in our next game And u Yeah, this the abbsolute difficulty level of some of those was ridiculous. And then and then you know, then the other way to go is to sort of give it away with a one that has more clues in it So Unfortunately since he's dead, we probably won't play that game again. Thank you. But you never know because I do I do love how unhinged his reviews were Maybe we'll do a new version of Leter Maltten, but with Rex Rex Reed. Get Pauline Kale on the case. A real tribute to film criticism All right, we're going take another break and then we're going be back with the big game that's going decide it all We arere back at dinosaur story, Sam Yes, Doug. You got to go first. Oh, so exciting sometimes. Yeah. You got go first in this game that I think you're gonna love it, Sam Oh boy U And then Ronaldo be second and then Johnny, but you're all gonna to get three turns in this game that I'm calling W' up, bro Love the enthusiasm. B. I have in front of me the entire filmography, both together and individually of the legendary Cohen Bros. Oh boys I've listed them in the order of their rotten tomatoes scores Oh wow. You will take turns guessing Cohen Brothers movies that you think rank the highest. I know I have a I don't remember it exactly going down this way as the Cohen Brothers movies would come out. I just thought they were all pretty beloved by critics and audiences alike Uh you'll each get three guesses. if you guess the number one Cohen Bothers movie and this again is, you know, one of them made two movies on his own and the other one made one movie on his own 's all I'll say about that U number one's worth ten points, number ten's worth one point and uh After all three guesses by all three players will add up the points and the crying will begin No, no, no I should also note that these movies are directed written or produced H and their feature length also no No shorts or Apparently they also directed something that was part of an anthology H. So those don't count, but course they wouldn't why why would they even get great reviews Not a lot of critics out there Gotta see some shorts I got a deadline and I need to see some suorts. Sam, what is your first guess? I assume you're a fan of their work I'm a big fan. going to play into your choices here today. It is this is troubling, Doug. I have so many options Gotta make some choices here.otta make some t choices Otherwise Yeah Soopef, had two things. You have I think about twenty one nish movies Great So what's your first one, Sam I'm I'm taking a swing here and this is either going to It could it could level me. I don't know I'm just but I'm taking a swing Okay And I'm going to say Blood simple. You are coming out with the first Fature film that they directed together am I remember well I don't remember I was very young, but I know it put them on the map and I know it was very well received and it's what their career is based off of. So sometimes I've learned with Rotten Tomatoes, an old movie, new reviews will still come in for it. Sure. it's a can help the score. So that's why I'm thinking Bood simple Dug Fantastic theory My one thing that I love about Blood Simple is the crazy camera work that Barry Soonenfeld did as a cinematographer and then went on to do in his own movies as a director Oh yeah Um, off course, Francces McDorman having a, you know, that B of a great part that early on in her career was great for her Um, Sam Yes Doug Number three on All right, three on the list. Take it. I'll take it, Doug. you're off to a strong start Oh. And u Next we go to I on So this is the highest highest reviewed and second highest That's what you're looking for as a top two, but I just also just for extra edification U blood simple ninety four percent on the RT See I think. Therefore you is Um I think their best reviewed movies have to be either It's either Fargo no country as number one. And I'm gonna go. Why don't you break it down? nameame as many of them as you can. to twenty to be I mean, I think they're I think there're one in two But I'm trying to debate which one would be first I guess I'd say H Fargo one and no country two. C I guess both are no No, no, you just you just the time I'll just get f. someomeone else is going to take your other guess. by the time it gets back to you S of it I don't know. So I'm going to get farargo. You're going fargo U turnurns out Fargo is tied for number one Wha, ninety five percent. Can I just Use my other one as a You can just winit your turn. I really shouldn't have said that. En Enjoy those points you got for that one. I shouldn have revealed my thought. Wait Wait until it comes back around. I tried to steer you in the right direction Sorry. I know when you recently when you have a baby, your b Do doesnn't work right anymore. Johnny Yeah, um I feel bad just saying O countountry full men at this point. Um, so I'm not going to. I'm going go with trrue grit You are such a what's the word I I'm looking for? It's probably forch. Mench. Yes, Mench is the word U because, you know, you should have just went for it, but it turns out You know, when you do the right thing that sometimes works out on your behalf because Cue grit is tied for number one with far No. Wh. What a moral Yeah So like for that that's awesome. Hell. They have ninety five percent and they're the top two reviewed T two B reviewed movies by the Cohen Bothers. Sam, this is I don't know what's happening here. This is unusual that you. I mean, I third place after the first round. It's So let me get this straight. I got Num three, and then they both got the movie tied for number one So I can't believe we didn' you didn't say no country because it's got to be up there. It's got to be, right? It one in one best picture. Well, he was trying to decide between both of them tried to decide between those two and I don't see how he abachated for anything else. I guess it was. Soll I'll say No country for O You're taking anyone else. I'm tell no con, I'm going Well, it's an interesting thing where no countountry for old men is because It is tied Two other films were fourth place Wow. Oh, fourth place because we've already gotue We got one, one, two and three. ' you see, there is no number two because one is tied. Exactly. Oh This This is some crazy shit. Yeah No country came in it with ninety three percent And we still got u, you know Lots more movies to go. so run on, what's your next guess So I'm guessing for like four now, right? Sorry.'m Well, you want to be as high up there as you possibly can. and you know, and I'll be suitably impressed if you come up with number four. It's two other two other movies tied with No Country. The other movies title with No Country. I mean Yeah I feel like it's got it I'm not going say it out loud this A I think though that even though that didn't work really or u Best reviewed movie at number four M You know what? I'm actually gonna go with insside Lord Davis. Solid. Mie 'use that's why you like That's a movie that had to I had to rewatch to appreciate The first time I was just too in that head space of like, this guy's unlikable That's what I love about it. Right? That's what grows on you as you go, Yeahah, but look at all these other dip sh. The minute he asked for the money for the abortion from the boyfriend of the girl he knocked up, I'm like, this is my kind of money. I just love her love I love a scumbag. I love E. Mama Lewn Davis Inside and also who wants to be inside that guy? noody. He's he was one He doesn't want to be inside Lewin Davis. It is number seven And I've designated that for those four points for that one. Yeah But they're still in the nineties. There's a ninety two percent of. So like w. They got a handful of movies that the ninet directors of all time Are they in my opinion. and by the way, I just want to say one of the great outrages of all time Sight and Sound came out with one hundred or two hundred fifty greatest movies of all time Now one Cohen brothers mo Insane Yeah Inante O of the craziest things That's howulous out of out of curiosity, how many of the spots did Kangaroo Jject take took the first five First five slots. That's fair. That's tough but fair What a weird ass list. Were there any other like known like obvious omissions? Like did they like like this is the list so what Casab Blaga No, no, Casablancca is on there. Its It's a very pretentious list. Yeah. likeike Casalan, like Godfath' like actually somewone high up Yeah. numberumber one is like the French S by Chantel Okerman. I forget what that's like from the seventies that Yeah I loveve seen U But yeah, now it's insane S be they're the greatest director. Jhn So I got a few contenders here. that' name and order Perfect. No, I, uh I'mother fz I don't know if this was even like critically acclaimed, but Miller's crossing Miller's crossing is one of the other films that is tied for fourth. Oh What's nang? Johnny' taking my answers He's a real answered thief Mmhmm U Yeah, Miller's crossing is like, I always toy with calling that one my favorite. I would ask you all what your favorites are, but I don' want anybody to reveal anything else at this point U but let's recap quickly Sam has fifteen points, Renon has fourteen and Johnny has seventeen And get to the third round. Im sure you all can each name it att least one more. moovie, but the question is can you get one That third one tied for number four would be be sweet Sam Boy All right. I am going to say C This was they split up This is just Joel Yeah came out a couple years ago and everybody wet their pants over it. So I'm hoping it it did as well on the tomato metater as well as the reviews I remember. and I'm going to say Joel Cohens's the tragedy of Macbeth Not bad's not bad answ No, it's not a bad answer because it did get some Oscar attention. I of course was, you know, out there crying about how much more I'd just enjoy one of the eighteen other movies those two made together over black and white Shakespeare adaptation There was some color. Was there No splashes spashes because people get bloody somethingomet like that. glasses of blood if memory serves. Yeah. Well It served you a good one because It is the movie that's tied for number Lo. Doug, you've deeeked me on that one. I thought you werere going to tell me it was number eighteen It God Very good reviews, ninety three percent. Wow, which is also the same am percentage of millers' crossing and no countountry for Old men So I just just I just don't see it in the company with those other two But it's rot tomatoes is weird. so it's like anything that's kind of safe that doesn't have like one or two bad reviews because it's like ' a fe Macbeth is so safe. Oh fe That was right. No, that's why like lately, lately I've been really screwed over to a certain extent by the latest horror movie because every horror movie that comes out lately, they're doing a pretty good job of not being terrible But just being okay is getting them all these critics saying, it's fine. They're not saying I loved it, but they're giving it a positive review. So that puts it into the fresh area worked very good. I just thought it was okay. As long as you're safe, you have a better chance than if you take like a big swing and ye interesteresting. Absolutely, absolutely But, you know, just the Cohen brothers like they can back it up with excellent movies, but also I imagine critics do go in a little biased in their favor. All right. so to Renan and your third guest and let me just do some quick math here. U you can't catch up to Sam. What do you got There's another there's another one that's time for fourth, right No, we did the three at four I mean you guys really are just knocking off all the top ones. There It's pretty impressive. So five so five is next. All right. I'm sounding really dub It's baby brand. I'm like so five is after four, right? That Well kind of is, but as we've already noted, there's ties in the list. so it fucks with the numbers I gotta go with the I gotta go with raisinir and soda I mean, why wouldn't you, right Yeah I mean, why would I? That' I wrestle with that in Miller's crossing, I kind of go back and forth between those two as being my personal favorite But in this particular case, It is next in line, which puts it at number eight Oh ninety one percent on the tomatoes. Number eight. Oh, N eight And s that's worth three more points for you, but you you couldn't you couldn't catch up to Sam anyway. This is really coming down to what Johnny comes up with O that on this one Right. Johnny is teen twenty two What of world, Johnny gets five points or more He will tire or surpass Sam. And looking at the board, there's nothing worth five points or more left on the board. No Well I guess I'm fucked This is as we say academic. It's like on jeopardy when it's a runaay and you just watch them play fininal Jeopardy anyway U where were your what's your third one just to just to show everybody that you know What would be next on the list of Cohen Brothers movies? It's not going be honey Dart. I'll tell you that. I'm Got one last jab at honey Doubt. I love it I'm actually going to go with the Big Lbowski Oh o you know, with, uh, seventy nine percent. of the critics, it did not fall in the top ten They didn't under Yeah, they didn't get it No, it feels like part of the problem, I think is like the Cohen brothers would had so many, you know, like certifiable classics in a row and Lbowsky kind of felt like, well now Now they're fucking with us. likeike it' a sillier movie than the few that were preceded it, I think. but I love it. you know, I think it's very rewatchable just because there's just so many fun character actors and weird u interactions. greatest comer of all time. I think Fargo be might be the two great The greatest like double punch for movies rban direct It is pretty amazing that they they do both of those and all these other ones that I will share after Sam tells us who he would like me to call a shithead at the end of the show Oh, u Rex Reed Oh no And then Where would you like to plug, Sam Oh well, Doug, you know I'm always on cameo And right now, that's that's the best place for people to come find me. Unless of course, you're going to be in a Kansas City area. Oh a couple of weekends. Big slick is coming up So if you're in Kansas City or the surrounding areas and want to come out to Big slick. Weve got shows on Friday night and Saturday night Yeah, just wherever you see Sam, like just yell out from your seat in the crowd Dougl's movies. Douglass moovies sent me and I'll come find you and I'll give you money We want to yelling that out during a presentation. Well, not like during a sad thing, but if there's a happy moment, there's a pause. you can get it out loud enough, I'll come find you. All right, be sure to come out and see Sam at the sad thing in Kansas City There you go. Great plug We'll do the rest of our plugs after I tell everybody this exciting information, which is How the other films in their catalog fared comoming in after raising Arizona with a solid ninety percent Bart and Fink.
