State of the game So st the game is this. We've got Sean freshly kicked off of Love Island. He is now not going to return to his work as cop. We were wonderingning We were wondering this. And so it brings us to a state of the game where we want to talk about What happens to people who have professional careers and then they go into reality TV and those professional careers pushed out a little bit, never returned to again and these people become influencers in one way or another or continue their careers in reality television or become hosts or whatever. that basically they're time in whatever game they're playing opens a door for them to be to have a career in entertainment in some capacity and they no longer return to what they are. Sean is simply the first one of these people Now we do have some information too. I just want to roll through this a little bit. There was a little bit of a drama with Sean. I'm sure we've covered it here, so you've probably heard this, but we're going to go through the details nonetheless about what happened with the mayor of his town, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania when he was announced to be on the show. Their mayor, this guy Jay William Reynolds, said, our police department spent a lot of time training and we paid thousands of taxpayer dollars to send him him Sean to the police accademy. We are disappointed he has left As we now have another vacancy in our department that is impossible to fill until next year, I never thought I'd see the day in America. where reality show participation wins out over being a police officer. This is said, by the way in an era when a reality television show host is the president of the United States So I think this guy is like severely misinformed. He caught a lot of flag for this Sean's mom then had to come to his defense and like fight this guy in the Facebook comments and stuff. Um, And then Sean had a reaction to this as well and basically said it was shocking to him to hear the mayor say these things. And he said, quote I also didn't resign from my job. My intention was, as we talked about prior to me leaving, I'm going to finish out my contract then I want to go into nursing and still pursue my passion of helping people. So he was already planning to not be a cop just finish off that contract and then go back to nursing school. become a nurse And he said they had quoted the mayor as saying if he wants to crawl back to the job, he can have it. And at that point, Sean says it honestly just felt like I was dehumanized. It was just like, well, this is just mean. your intention was to hurt my feelings, you succeeded. That sucked. So now he's not going to go back. He's going to nursing school and Wh knows if the Nursing school think is going to work either because he also said he wants to use, quote, use his platform to give back and even help communities in Bethlehem because quote, I've worked in the city and I know what people are struggling with and what would help and what would uplift the city. So he's already focused on the idea of his platform, how he's going to use it. Here, he's talking about helping people, whatever. but he is fully aware of the fact that he now has a platform I don't know what he's sitting at cumulatively, but he was close to a million cue, I think, or maybe over it a little bit across both TikTok and Instagram. Yeah. And this has to do with a phenomenon we've seen in the last couple seasons where the first player out gets such a huge bump that they can quit their job. We saw this with Bell Dash. last year Um, Rifles sights are still set on nursing school And he says, hopefully, I'll pass anatomy this time and get rolling in a career. I think scrubs are a little bit lighter than a duty belt In more ways than you one. I like these like I want to be a nurse. canannot pass anatomy I deffinitely want to be a nurse. I don't think you need much anatomy in nursing I'm no nurse, but I got a thirty thirty vision. So this is our chart here is updated on today. Seaan is sitting at one point five seven eight total cumulative across Instagram and TikTok. He's got one point two TikTok and three point seven K on Instagram. So those combined are the one point five seven million tootal follow How nextext closest is Ba who's got six hundred and ninety four cumulative. Yeah, it's those first two even. I mean, I think Ba also can pursue this Um We In my mind, that's actually a strategy at this point in Love Island becomome so lovable not have a good first audience game. cut out immmediately. And then you're like,t you don't even have to stay there the whole summer. You don't have a chance to get blowback on what you do on the show That was Visana's strategy don't know about that one. But we just wanted to go through also as we're talking about this the, you know, the viability of reality television as a kind of Um entry level position basically to being an influencer or reality TV star. and we wanted to go through some other people done this. Natalie Lee these are the first two people I love is blind people. Natalie Lee. She was a corporate consulting manager And then she quit that job obviously to host their Love as Bind podcast. And she has revealed that H and her co stars have made over five hundred thousand dollars in Brande's post show In many cases, I think the decision is made for these players where it's like, I'm sure she was making good money as a corporate consulting manager, but not five hundred thousand dollars per year for just like posting some spons. Proably took a lot su more hours Exactly. I'm saying, you know, I'm not saying it's easy I should say to be an influencer. It is work, et cetera, et cetera. You have to make the videos, you have to post the videos. but making a little one minute Instagram reel even every day is, in my opinion a little easier than spending like an eight to ten hour a day working day every day, five days a week, doing something for somebody else. Yeah. her Natalie's cohost, Dep D quit her data analyst job shortly after her season. She is now a full time influencer, author, and podcaster And then Bachelor Nation has a bunch of these. The most famous one, in my opinion is probably Rachel Lindseay. She was a lawyer from the source. Now she's, I mean, Jesus, podcast host, television host, reality TV show like so many things that she's doing and just like killing it out there If you're not listening to her watching Higher learearning, her podcast with Van Lathan, you one hundred percent must check that out. It's fantastic. And she's a huge reality TV fan too. So it's like she's commenting all Bravo, etc Andy Dorfman famously as she was becoming the bachelorette, her opening package was her taking her law degree. now forget herewer was scuttling it into a cboard box. And I don't think she's looked back, right? She hasn't been a lawyer since that time. that I am aware of. She was one of the first influencers. Yeah. We also had Jason Tardic has, I mean, he's quit his finance job, but now he has a finance podcast which has really taken off And we saw Tyler Cameron. He was originally in construction He has made some dog houses then You're saying he's still in construction, He didn't worked somewhat in construction. He was helping with the extreme house mansion Pats are meant to take over where he Held tools like the Glden haammer. Okay. Sure Okay He's still in construction. I didn't realize sorry. And this also made me think of Tata Adams who I believe is no longer a plebotomist Yeah, I don't think she is either. And Michelle Young was a teacher and even claimed after Bacheloretnum that she would remain as a teacher, but no longer a teacher. I think that there is For me, the thing that that mayor said I think is like a massive misconception that a lot of people still have, which is reality television is this kind of vapid, frivolous thing that isn't a real job and it's bullshit and you should be a cop or whatever the kind of like I guess more normalized job is in some people's eyes. And I just don't agree with it. L it's clearly not the case, especially when you're living in a world again where the President is a reality TV show host Our mare was oneost stop reality TV star He was a reality a reality TV star was almost our mrior. Yes. There have been a bunch of people in Trump's cabinet that are reality TV stars, The Transportation seecretary, Patrick Duffy, and his wife met on Real Wor and they're shooting a reality show about their family, like going around the country. So it's kind of like at odds with what this this mayor was saying about Sean. It's kind of at odds with reality, quite frankly but also the notion that being on reality television is not a a credible or valuable career pursuit At this point in twenty twenty six is simply not true There are many paths through it. You don't even have to be a lead of like Bachelor or anything like that. I mean, I mean, Dep D Natalie are kind of proving that they were just like good players on their seasons. No Love as Bind season has a lead per se. They may have like most important characters, but there's no official lead and they're killing it. It is Rre though, a lot of people do go back to their jobs and you can't guarantee it You can't guarantee you're either going to be, you know, in the top of Love Island or the one of the first two out or sure. But that's anything in entertainment. It's like coming to Hollywood and saying I want to be an actor and then you're You know, mayayor is like, I can't believe this person' trying to pursue a career as an A list movie star instead of being a cop. It's like, yeah,s it's low odds But but if you hit him Holy shit. Exactly. you know you kind of have to E prise it U But I would also say there's there's I don't mean to make it sound like You're either at the top of the heap making millions of dollars a day off your social media posts or you can or you're making nothing. There is a whole host of I would consider us to be this on this podcast We're like working daily on this podcast and we make our living off of it, but we ain't fucking rich. We ain't making Timothy Chhalam money or even Rachel Lindseay money. You know what I mean? There is a way on social media and through creating content to make a living. that is commensurate with probably like a cop Yeah And of course, the lighter lifestyle all around. Scrubs versus a No, just Sean saying the scrubs are lighter than the ice out. R right, right, right. Yeahah. ye. No, I mean, you can definitely put in long days and stuff as with any job, but I think there again, is just a misconception about like what it is to make content as a living. And it doesn't mean that you're filthy rich necessarily. Some people obviously certainly are and do much better at it depending on how big their platform gets or how they got that platform likeike a player coming out of Bachelor, The Bachelor franchise, I mean with a million followers has a very targeted market that they are able to access in terms of spponcon. And that's incredibly valuable for certain brands that you're like, oh, my audience is Millennial women, ninety nine percent. that like certain brands will be like perfect, hereere's all our money. whereas other players Especially like guys who come out of the bachelor They don't quite have that same thing. The audience isn't like you can't have Tyler Cameron doing Spongon for like women's shampoo, really? Or maybe you could. Maybe with his partner. U And I think that that gendered issue is a big part of this the audience of reality TV being mostly women No, totally. I agree. I mean, it's it's broadening a little bit with shows like Taders and stuff coming into the like main mainstream of reality television, I would argue that show is now up there with like any of the big franchises, but certainly loveve Island H u Yeah, loveve Violland, That's what we're watching now. I'm so sorry. There's so many in my head that have the word love in them and I'm just like wait a minute, whichich one's loveoveiolland? Is that love is blind? Is that love overboard? is that? I mean, when we got on, I literally thought we were recording our Friday episodes. So Yeah, your brain gets scrambled doing his job. Srambled I think like coming out of Uh Love Island. you know, you are seeing some of the dudes picking up some steam. We've got Nick from last season. he's doing a bunch of good sponk on Rob Rausch, obviously, but Rus has to come at it from that angle of like, oh, he also won traders. So he's got both of these giant franchises like Huge finishes making like super big splashes in each of them. and it kind like he's so well rounded in terms of what his audience is and how big his platform is that I'm sure he's just like raaking in cash But yeah, you're right. That's That's not everybody. There's one Rob Rouse. I mean, Oandrea there's was just featured in Chosmo. like Yeah exactly crushing it Yes, But I would say like year There are maybe five or six Eandriaas, Rob Ruch's, you know, that kind of like top tier reality player who then move into influencing Spwn Con other podcasts writing books. Hannah Brown has written three books at this point, I think No. She is she has a whole body of work. Yeah, so there's like the doors get opened for you if you come out of reality TV with a big platform to do a wide array of things. And this this mayor, it really pisses me off what this guy said. I'm like I obiously like Yeah, I might as well I should hook up with Sohns Bon. We could do our own podcast just shitting on that mayor I just don't like that people have a drastic misunderstanding and diminishing of this thing that we have spent years of our lives studying, enjoying whatever. I love reality TV and I appreciate the players who can do it very well. And I think they deserve all of the award and money and everything they get because it's not an easy thing to do in that respect. It's like pro sports. look at Shohee Oane and say like, I can't believe he gave up a data and his job to try and play pro baseball. It's like, no, he's the greatest baseball player that's ever lived. And I would say the same of likeike a raw rs or a likeake tub or whoever, you know? Yeah. I just I wish that more people understood how hard it is to be good at reality TV and how hard it is to take whatever you've gotten from that initial rookie season And then transfer that into an actual career of any of these things we've been talking about it's incredibly difficult. It takes a rare level of skill and talent to do it And I just hate that again, this mayor is like, I don't can't believe we're living in therea or person r be on reality TV to be a cop. It's also like He had such an opportunity to do huge recruiting for the police department if he had wanted to. Yeah. Like he could have been like Yeah we have the hottest cops. like everyone should join like we're actually we lead to Love Island. Let's get all the hot cops. I mean, I think that would be good propaganda. Instead one hundred percent. Instead you have a You have Sean being like ACP. I'm nursing. He wrecked it. But congratulations to Sean for being ACAab and for stepping out to this new career for Yes, go back to nursing school, pass your anatomy class, but also, as you said, use that platform And I'm very curious to see what he does with. We have some hints coming up in parasocial plays of what his plans are. He contributed to production and post production and oversseaw the soundtrack ITV American Peacock Honored Barker in the Tuesday, june sixteenth episode of Love Island, USA a montage of photos of him.
