Hey everybody, Wlcome back to Giant Bomb at night. It's night two. We got a whole cavalcade of cool people coming at you tonight on this couch, behind the couch as well. We'll get to that here in a second. We are presented by please wish list, Alien fire team elite two, go do that right now. That's what we're presented by. so you should go do that. Wishlisting is free. Did you know that? You could just go do that and help a game out We're going to be getting into it right away with my guest As always, I'm Jeff Greb and I'm joined by Gohead introdce Hi, you might not know me. My name's Baile Myers and I used to live here. But now I work at Good Time Society as a producer and on camera host. You should check that out if you like tabletop gaming content R? I am as Jeff Grub just said inron Kan. I was spoiled Yeah Now people people were like, man, I was going to wait for that two seconds. Yeah. but like now there's even not even any point to watching I work for restart. runun however long that last. and I was at Summer Game Fest today, so I probably in theory would have things to talk about I'm John Carson. I'm a video game freelancer. I used to work at Game informer but for IGN, I Wh else who else am? I've reard for a bunch of But I'm here at SGF checkking out games. Excellent. Yeah Hello, I'm Andrea Renay and you may know me from the internet, podcast, Stages. I've worked with pretty much every video game publisher and most of the video game outlets that used to That they don't exist anymore because I'm old everybody. You've seen Games Beat. That's what I remember you from. Yes, exactly. I was just there and I hosted some stuff and I have a new show called Game Deod it I'm Wade Rosen. I'm the suit here, I think. I'm the CEO of Atari and got them everybody. Yeah. Yeah. I showed up two hours early. so they were very nice and accommodating and have allowed me to crash this party. So thanks everyone. Absolutely Hey, I'mat Shipman, I'm voice actor for anime and some games That's it hi. Well, thanks for joining me, everybody. Let's get into Emron. You mention it theoretically, we should be able to talk about some stuff. Why is everything embargoed? It Yeah I guess I don't mind a ton, but it's annoying. I want to talk you guys about the games we saw. So the one game I did play today, orrbitals, I cannot talk about because the embargo is for July. Yeah, there's a lot of July embargoos Yeah. because like so what I think is happening is that They are doing their summer games Fest thing. Yes. and then everyone is going over to Europe to go do other stuff and wants to get everyone on the same marketing So now we all like, We came here. in the dead heat of LA which is actually quiteleasant But to play games that we cannot talk about for another month I mean, I really want to talk about Star Wars Galactic Gracer, Cantil July. Yeahah, a lot of cool stuff. But I mean, so I guess let's talk about the vibes, I guess I don't know. I mean, I've played a game I can talk about. Please. Control resonident. Oh really? Okaykay. How was that? ucking fantastic.. I walked out and said, this game is so weird in the best way. Like that's one of those games that's coming out in that like, really hectic time at the end of September. Do you think it a strong chance of like standing out because it's so weird? A hundred percent. Okay, good. Like everythingvery you loved about the first one, but better, more polished more options, like the combat Felt so fun. the traversal mechanics different, better. like everything is just like if you haven't played The original control highly recommend and this just takes everything up a notch How how do you feel about it? It's a transition from a kind of shooter game from control to melee combat and control resident Well, it's interesting. hasas anybody else Ped it it's my number one for the year behind It I'm so excited about it. They are adding a bunch of mechanics that tell you essentially to use your melee to like build your like special meter for power moves. and you can choose your play style. Like the one I picked because I always love like the more rogue like characters is like the super stabby slash slash fast combos where you kind of like get in like step to stab and then you get out. And there's a lot of different I mean, the skill tree is crazy big and there's a lot of room for improvisation, but you also have to make choices because they don't want you to be respecking because if you're going to respec it's going to cost you a lot in this game because they really want you to kind of commit and feel what it means to kind of go down that one single column. But the melee felt great. It felt super intuitive, but I love that there seems like a lot of meat to dig into in terms of customization for each individual player. They still have like Psychic powers. I like the best part of control was hicking up a big rock and throwing it. Oh, yes. One of the combat abilities that I got to try out had me essentially picking up like a I don't want to call it a century, but it almost was like that where you kind of manifest this thing out of rock And then it starts like P shooting things and then you can do like a charge attack with it where basically you take your little sentry guy and it explodes like a bomb on them. But it was all like manifested from the psychic powers and not like an actual physical weapon An thing I'm wondering is the only thing I care about is are there does it look like there's room for like cosmetics? Like you can find a hypothetically stupid gold suit somewhere by solving a dumb puzzle? I did not see anything of that note and I know that that's not normally remedies wast remedy Yeah. I mean there was some of it so I'm not equipped to answer that question is what I'm saying. the control bit Metroidvania like a little bit, but this is like going into it looks it's outside, right? This one the last one took place in the Federal Bureau of Control, right? And then That This one does not that was almost like a character that that setting in the last game. Do you feel like that's going to carry over and still be able to have that same energy in this game now that you're outside Oh, I mean It's so different I also didn't see enough of the game, I think to really fully answer that question. There was certain members of the press that got a longer hands on session. We've seen some of those previews come out already. They would maybe be able to give you a better answer of that, but from what I saw, everything looks suuper unique. It's very different and like the way that Dylan, the protagonist plays different like to Jesie is very palatable. And like I think I mean, it's just like it's good. it felt good. You know, one thing I think about that game conceptually is that Part of the premise is the FBC got overwhelmed in the oldest house and just like broke out. So they essentially and I assume accidentally wrote in the failure of FBC Firebreak into this game That's really That's like rememedy's whole jam. Yeah, I really is. f was failure because people just didn't play that game. likeike how so you know, like what does that look like that how they write that failure in? Like in that like there just was not enough people Oh, okay. Andrew, you're an angel There' Jesus Yeah. You're welcome. I got a professional. M was sensing Sean' like animaz of anger from over there.'s like I have toict She's closest to it. It's h her first. I feel like the people at home want to hear what you're saying. Shes podcasts Just watching Sean take psychic damage slowly every time That is a hard thing. You work her a long time. You also did this when we hosted Games Dayway together You would just like push the mic right in front of my fs and be like here like It's I mean, if no one ever taught you like or you'd never practicice it, how would you know? Oh, people teach me, I just don't learn. Yeah, well, you know the FBC byerpint I was making the point I was making was Dave They got overwhelmed because there weren't enough people to do it And that's essentially true of that game. Yeah, that they N there weren't enough people playing and they had to back off the the planes they had for it. So it does work again connective tissue to control two, just accidentally. Yeah Yeah, Remedy is so interesting with that stuff. I guess last thing about the game Andrea, like for me, the thing I associate with remedy is Weird FMV stuff sort of hidden. Did you see anything like that or sure did. Okay. that's kind of all I need to hear. Yeah. I don't wantan to say more here. But it the had the right tone, right vibe. You were into it. I mean, like like I said, it's weird as fuck in the best way. I that game is it feels like it's a chance for Remedy to finally like really hit home because you know, control was excellent. so many people loved it I really do think being lockedown to Epic Gamestore, not that I have some issue with Epic Gamame Store, but I do think it was an issue for that game reaching the audience it was supposed to be on or supposed to find. It's going to be on steam this time. You think it's going to work this time? I think that the inroads they did with Alen Wake two is going to go a long way for audiences to say maybe I didn't want to take a risk on the weirdness of the original control. but Alan Wake was like this chef's kiss like artistic masterpiece and so many people played and love that game that I think gave people a sense of who remedy is artistically and what they're capable of, not just from like a direction standpoint, but mechanics and world building really. And I really hope people kind of take a look at that and go, maybe this weird just wasn't my jam in the beginning, but I'm gonna give it a second try You know what the interesting thing about rememedy games is that I have played every remedy game up until this point But only recently have I watched twwin Peaks And I'd always heard remedy games are inspired by twwin Pak. No They are not inspired by twin Paks. They straight up ripped that off. Yeah they did the right thing because Yeah they. they knowew how to do it. I mean, Sam Lake was like, no one's ever gonna to talk about twin Pak. I just think to make a bunch of g back. There's like fifty percent of games every year are inspired by twwin peaks, But theirs are like fully just we're doing that again. So much of every game in the last twenty years has been just It It's very much a weird realization moment when you watch that show. thirty three years ago Link's Awakening came out inspired by twwin Pace. Yes. Yeah. Like I was watching it and like I had this moment of, oh, The Evan Gallon rebuild movies are inspired by the show. And then MM seven remake is inspired by the rebuild movies. They like there's a weird like and also MM seven originally was inspired by Twin Peaks The reason for that is because the gaming industry is no longer making shovelware based on movies and television shows that are coming out and there's a vacuum that needs filling, which obviously nature repores, blah, blah, blah, we know other words. So I think that if we start making Shitty direct to PlayStation, not even PlayStation five. likeike we can start doing PlayStation two games again. It's fine. were just like adaptations for like obsession, I think would be like a really good one. Backrooms basically already exists in gaming format. I don't know. What other movies have come out recently that you would Rgu. Yeah. supermarko Yeah they shouldper g I would play I would wishlist as Fire teeam ellite two. Oh interesting.actly. They it The like unique game about that. Yeah. like aliens are hunting somebody in in a, I don't know sthip. But I bet that would be way better than like a shady shovel wear obsession. C I just tell you guys the story real quick? In the swag bag, there's a hat for a game and it says A Con I two All day thought Dan just thought it was for a company called AI two. a sequel. Yes. ye. where weed. We've been dealing with that over. I mean, that probably exists. It I'm sure it does. But it actually goes to Artist's house and kills them directly. Yeah. It's about time. I gotta go. Wade, she mentioned releasing PS two games. It's almost kind of the business that you're in. You just stole our business mode. Yeah. I'm so sorry. No, it's okay. We'll find a new one No, we had a bunch of releases this week or announcements, I should say. Yeah with Toy Story Collection, Toy Story three rememaster. Godzilla this morning, which I wasn't thrilled about but we did announce that as well shortly thereafter today and Rby reewind People haven't gotten lemonade Barbie s. it out I saw somebody with the Barbie lemonade. I was like, whereere did you get there? That was a good my team that was a good idea. They like initially we pitched something else and Matel' like, and we're like lemonade and they're like, Okay, perfect. There's always a signature drink like over in the lunch area. you got it this year. Thank you. Yeah, I'll tell them. I'll pass it along. That is seems like the reewind games, like you mentioned the Toy Story collection. You guys have done a handful of that you guys were the Rugrets, right? No. That was limited around That was limited around. Okay you guys combat collection in the Tetris Gold Master series Night dive is doneun, you Dooms andquakes and system shock remake. Sos you know, this like youah, so you basically you have a stack of tiers of different kinds of ways to bring back old games, whether it's just a collection or remakes or remasters or something like that That does seem to be the business that Tari is trying to corner right now. How's that going? Like what is the sort of thrust there? What are you trying to get at? Well, I think As a fan, You know, there there's twenty years ago, fifty year olds didn't really play games And now fifty year olds play games. And so You make games for ages, all generations, But there is a bit of a gap in games for forty year olds, fifty year olds, sixty year olds And u We really try to go back and find things that people want and And oftentimes we dont just bring them back. It's sort of It's the game as you remember it, not exactly as it is. So Turk You know, if you play that, It's like, oh, there's a miniimap. And I didn't even realize the original didn't have a miniimap. but it's there and it's kind of subtle and I don't know if the fog distance needs to be quite as aggressive, so that's pulled back a little bit The team it's a labor of love. All of them And we just we have a list of things we want to do. And then we do new ones too, like Bubsy for D and other titles comeing out There you some. I ended up really liking Buby for D. That's another interesting thing where it's like this is a series that has a spotty history and to like kind of find a team in for bras that can do it justice in a way that maybe it never even earned, but like you guys made it earn that. What was that like Well, it's I appreciate saying that you liked it because that is probably the most divisive game we've ever released. It's literally. I've never released a game that's like fours and nines Uh, there's like, There's very little in the middle and it almost entirely breaks down by age, we've realized, which really Yeah to some degree. ye. No How so? becauseuse I got a response to that go. Yeah. So anyone who kind of wanted to be an astroonbut or a Mario was like, these enemies are easy. and this doesn't That is very true. Anyone who wanted to play it and try and speedrun the levels and like break it and it' It's an expressive platform. It. It's not traditional platform and the ideaas to try and find unique ways through it and to kind of run through it as fast as you can and almost push the limits of the game So it was really whatever way people was were familiar with playing games and We did find that somehow younger gamers actually responded to that more positively than someomebody who wanted a really Aial Oysy or a yeah an astrbaut. Okay, said the younger gamer right? Seaan and I but like he's like half my age or but not quite. No, but yeah. a child Yeah Bubsy four D is one of my favorite games of this year. Thank I absolutely love it. Yeah, I appreciate that. It was it was like It weird waking up in the morning and having like a ninety two on steam and then a metacritic in the sixties and you're like, what is How can game be so divisive, but that's buubszy, right?' bu Pe either love it or hate it. Yeah. well we like to do that a lot though. findind a dev and then try and marry the right IP with that deev and just give them creative control and loose. What is that like process like? Do you have like a team that kind of goes out there and hunts for these teams or do you have do you get pitch? Do you just got sit in room? Come on in this room and explain what you want to do for us or what? In a perfect in a perfect setting, yes Bubsy, I actually accidentally dropped that on a inMax interview and my team was like not happy with me because we'd been talking about doing internally and they had like an entire like RFP process. and then I was like, yeah, we're soliciting Bubsy pitches. and We just got inundated and so we don't do that anymore. I've been wrangled in that sense. but But normally, yeah, we actually write down a kind of hitlist of ten to fifteen devs. we really like and we'll go out and approach them and find the ones that we think are best and then Octoberall. Excellent. Yeah. you're not gonna solicit pitches right here tonight or Which one I intentionally right? Yeah, we'll see. You can probably get it out of me if you keep me talking long enough. Yeah, night dive, they just continue to chug right along. How close are they to like No one lives forever. Is that the game that they? No one lives forever. Yeah.. That's the white whale. That's the white whale. Yeahah. How close are we to that? So we have announcement tomorrow but it's not no one lives fore., I can say. Everyone lives forever. We did it everybody. No, working with that team. I've known them They're probably the first team I ever met in video games actually, before well before Tari and Uh This part of my life and They're just wonderful. Like they're close friends now And so whenever I have a crazy idea, I'll call Stehven kick over there or he'll call me Yeah. And Most of the time, That gets shot down, but every once in a while it rises to the top and yeah, they've got a lot of fun stuff in store. Yeah, they got a good heads on their shoulders over there. I really like talking to them. really like we did a couple of streams with them where they talked about their games while played it and they were like they were very kind and really like teams a lot abbsol you Yeah. Um You are our pinball champion, right? Yes, I played a g that I'm allowed to do You're allowed to talk about this that's why I brought it up Yeah Stern pinball machine. It's Transformers and it's so cool. Yeah. So it's Gin one Transformers. you are much younger than me. Does that do anything for you? or you just like that? It's a good pinball machine? My familiarity with the Transformers franchise say it begins and ends the ride at Universal. Okay. that's That's actually very great. Yeah. I know we're searching for the All Spar. We are. donon't want Megatron to get it. The first time I got flown out to Singapore for a weird gaming event and we got to go to Universal And that was by far the best part of the trip was the transransformer st thing there. Great ride. And it's a great pinball machine. At one point, the pinball gets rocketed out of a cannon and it lands on the track and it's like the sickest shit you've ever seen. I really recommend it. I don't know, findind this. The only one exists. It's at SGF, but they're gonna to be making more out of the pinball printing machine. Do that's how it works? Yeah. Does anything transform on it U yeah, the like stuff moves around. like the machine itself is in motion while you're playing. It It's always like control. made it Yeah. It's stern like control.. Yeah, this is stern. It's stern. Yeah. Yeah. They also have their Pokemon machine over there and I caught it. I filmed the video of Jesse Vatelli playing the game He was introducing it saying I'm playing Transformers, but he cockraping transit former, so I just had happy pride. We got the table for Pride excellent. Yeah. I need to get over there and try it out, but pinball's kind of backed. Do you care about pinball outside of this or are you're just excited to play this one time? I like pinball. My sister is a big pinball head Because pinball is super gay, as you just said, out your mouth So that's why she likes it and then I don't disagree, but I would like an explanation No, it's inherent with intrinsic we all get it. Okay L look at a pinball table, you just know. If you're multip, multipall. Okay, fair. Yeah. There was multipall happening in the Transformers' machine. It was so cool. I was just like, whoa, we got so much talk about it in a way that's normal. I'm just like, I was hitting stuff and the numbers are going It was really fun. I like all my stuff I did today was the most me stuff ever. It was pinball and it was magic the gathering. He yeah. Great, I got my butt totally kicked on Ana and then the guy very nicely after asked for a picture with me. And like shout out to you, man, you were so nice after kicking my ass. Where did you say you recognizeed you from bal. Excellent. So he might be watching. Yeah yeah. And you refused after he beat you, right? of course. Yeah, I was like, you have to beat me three times then perhaps I'll drop some loot. It's like a troll at a bridge, right? Yeah. myree Yeah , man, how you doing man? I'm good. Yeah. yeah. I've been trying to catch up with the SGF stuff. I'm not I watched your Halk over from yesterday all day today. I'm like, what can I even talk about? because anything I'm involved in canan't talk. Are you in Ava at all? Am I in Ava? Yeah. Okay. see Ray's going to be in I didom S Ray and Oscar are both playable in Santa Cross Rs right. Jesus Christ No I will say Godzill is there. wor. I've watched and Like these shows like TG's and such, In rooms full of voice actors They are the most loose liipped people in the world about what they're working on. Yeah, we don't. Yeah, you're one camera. You're the one responsible voice actor we found you. Yeah. Yeah, so can you say what you're even in or you're not allowed to talk about say anything about anything? It's not out. It's at all. Gota. undernderstood. Neither confirm nor deny whether there anything at this show relevant to me at all. Excellent. So when you watched it yesterday, like outside of the games you're in, What excited you U I feel like my relationship with like Aple A gaming is weird. I kind of never play any of them. So So many games, even though they seem unique visually look so similar to me that it's hard for me to even remember what I saw. And I'm like, oh, there was a teenage mutantidja Turtles game. Wha, That one seems cool. What was one with that sentiment by the way? Yeah ye. I mean, you worked on Bubsy forty. I'm like, yeah, it's more of my speed the more cartoony style. Oh no What was that came among us? Yeah. was that exciting? Ohll yeah. It's fine. I mean, I've played a. like in the single player? Yeah, I just don't. Let's just ask you about every single game and we'll just figure out why our g down Mar brothers. I'm sure if I played like all of them, I would love at least sixty percent of them. but A you even forty percent of games coming? Grat That among us was I guess kids probably do want like a story mode for that, right? Is that who that game's for I can't answer who it's for. I know that I was having a conversation last night with someone about how it's a little bit of a travesty that you get this zeitgeist moment that the original Among Us was and so happy for the team at Intersloth for all of the success that they got from that. And then they have this big moment where it's like, hey, you can watch the new animated series and you can go and do that right now and it's like, Gosh, this would have been awesome if it had just come out maybe even like a year sooner or two years sooner, but it's really tough to get those things in motion and to produce them quickly. And that's like the cycle that we're in is that we're, I mean, I mean, really, we' do like a whole stream about how gaming as a whole is trying to catch up to the trends that are happening or five years ago. And like the challenges studios are facing there. But I think that there's still space for that game to find a new audience and to take a foothold and do different things. John, how'd you find SGF today, the play days aspect of it. Very warm. Yeah. did get a little bit hot for me. We're from the Midwest, so yeah. ye, ye I live in Kansas City, so like as long as I'm not breathing in water, I'm fine. It's actually been like hotter in Minneapolis and like still it was like too hot today. I did a demo. It lasted like an hour and it was just gradually getting hotter, like every, every minute And I was just dripping I just like really bad at the game It was tooes. Y, thank you. Thank you for calling me out, Py Well, if it makes you feel better I'm from Los Angeles and I also don't like this weather. Yeah yeah. But it was a beautiful day everybody. people complaining about very ra day it was sunny in seventy six it c you can get, okay? more like eighty. Yeah. Yeah. anybody from Minnesota knows talking about weather is just like That's like talking about traffic in LA. Oh ye it's just something to fill the gaps. It's what we do. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. yeah. I definitely brought up traffic like three times when say my hs when I got here you use the word the in front of all the freeway numbers? That's key. the way to do it. Y. those are there didn't mention them I don' know. took five Is that or wrong. That's right light That's a number.'s No, that's what it's called. If you call it anything else, you're being insensitive. It's your culture. C it the fiver. a second ago, Andrea mentioned chasing trends. way that's got to be something like you guys maybe don't have to worry about, right? Is there trends in like the business that you're in of bringing back old games I think the problem with chas trends is by the time you're chasing them you're too late. Yeah This is' tech where you can come up with an idea and have a protype like an MVP commercial prototype out and you're testing it and then no, that didn't work. and two weeks later you do another thing. I mean, you're making decisions that are going to come out years later So if it seems like a good idea now, probably a thousand other people are having that exact same thought while you're having that thought And You know, I'm relatively new to games as I'm five years in, but the one thing that does seem to be Guiding principle is doing what you're passionate about, what you think you can do better than anyone else in the world Holding on to that. L we were talking about remedy. I mean, I don't think they think that's like an anti trend chasing company. Yeah. mayaybe Firebrake be is A little bit of a But they like need to try that to know, I guess. And You look at thatou they touch the stove. it's Yeah o, yeah ye just remembering that's not what we do. And so I feel like the companies that very clear about who they are, communicate that clearly and inspire to be the best in the world at what they do. do seem to find a place in video games and then trend chasing, it's just invariably too late. I think you almost have to luck into the trend. and a lot of times it's like an indie game or something that is finding that little nugget of gameplay that everyone just kind of like chases for the next five years like you're vampire survivors, you're among them. I mean it does seem like in the indndies space maybe it's a little bit easier to chase the Oh yeah hundred percent around it fast enough time. Less I mean, there's skin in the game. obbviously, it's like someone's personal life, but ye there's less monetary skin Yeah. I mean, when you close the book on the Generation, and you start talking about like, What is what happened to Sony Like there was that Stehven Totello thing where They are selling twenty million less F party software than they did the previous genereration That's because they ended up canceling so much stuff. Yeah becausecause everything was just they were changing the lives for his friend. That was first party stuff. Yeah. Yeah And like I understand why they did it. I understand why they were like, Hey, we need something that just generates revenue forever and doesn't likeike Rly on us making a new game every ten years for like the same studio. but it It was a It' one of those gambes you make that inevitably has to fail eventually I mean, I remember when they kind of started announcing they're going to do those twelve live service games. They were very like proud to show the graphs of Here's the money we're still spending on original narrative single player games and it's the same as always and we're going to spend an equivalent amount of money on all these live service games. and it's like, okay, You keep saying the stuff gets more expensive. So really that number staying the same Do does mean we're going to get less and that's exactly what right in a Star stududio has not planed a game the generation. Yeah And like I know why? because they put that much time and effort into these things. You are expensive. Yeah. Yeah, it's it's expensive and it's time consuming and I mean, the numbers around like Destiny three. Yeah.. It's like the reason they like they didn't approve it. the numbers around there it's astronomical. Yeah. It's insane the numbers you hear get thrown around. It's like, yeah, so this is just not a business where you can reliably be like, hey, we can throw that around and just hope that the trend's still going to be cool. You can you can imagine why Herman Holskes know what other ideas do you have? Yeah. It's interesting that you would take a franchise like Destiny that has had an incredibly successful run over a decade and go, but I'm not sure about that. sucks But this new IP over here that we've never done, what if we put like two hundred million dollars in and just like rolled the dice like the decision making is just like inexplicable to me. Right. So it does feel like it's time to like retreat and maybe do a bit they're doing. So like you like, go, hey, we have a ton of IP. Let's start bringing that stuff back. But that's, you know that's also going to be a trend here pretty soon for these big companies. Yeah. And then how do you like take a an aundra or an Ark of the lad and be like, we're going to put two hundred million dollars into those.' it's tough. Yeah. like they can't keep making these nine figure bat like they've seen that it keeps failing. Yeah. And it's like it's costing a lot, not just to like the studio, but to people's lives who are building these games, the art that Consumers never get to play. like the demoralizing effect of that is like its it's compounding now. and we're at a time it's like, hey, we everybody needs a win. We're in a bad place for us If every publisher is going, we need to win like we got to change something. Yeah. Yeah. That's the thing that came up with CapCom's latest earnings is they were talking about like yeah, stuff like Kutsugami doesn't light up the charts like Resin Evil does, but it's important to make these new things Because there are still people getting into gaming. There are people that like A going to remember Pragmata in twenty years it could be like, whereere's Pragma ten? Yeah. I mean, even like exorime though, it's like, I don want to like Like Yeahah, that was pretty cool. And then you they follow up with games that are great and And it's like like, you know what, that's seven out of ten Xo Primer wasn't so bad. I kind of want I have a more positive look at it because Capcomes hitting like so well everywhere else. When I would actually argue, that game will lead to something else. Yeah because if it didn't hit everything it wanted to do. playing that multiplayer game, but it's unlocking this narrative outside of that It's pretty unique. And and like I think you We also view these things as isolated games when in reality, you're like testing that. okay it didn't fully work, but team sharp wasn What did work for from it. then you take it and you move it over to somewhere else. I mean, Capcom is probably the company, one of the companies, if not the one we look towards the most because they do have a nice mix of bringing back the past, sometometimes in just straight remasters, sometimes in sequels, sometimes new IP. and They deliver. They deliver really good results while still taking risks and U I think you have to keep costs down to do that. Yeah, some degree. And so it's that help that's why they have their own engine and they really focus on that and that kind of helps to a certain extent. But yeah, it's not just that. There's a million ways to do that. Well I think they're like these games Games can make sense, but not at X budget. rightight? And so you can take almost any series almost any series, be like, oh, this would make sense this budget. And when you only know how to make a game at one hundred million plus It really lowers the amount of IP that you can work with But I think if there's different different ways to bring it to market, then that then that opens up because it could be supported by something that just has a radically different debt budget, but then Yeah that requires a little bit of a rethink in the ure It feels like like Sega and a bunch of oers are starting to like do that same thing with they're like, Hey, Capcom's working, Maybe let's follow that game plan. Do you think that's how we get the one hundred million dollars Sega swwirl follow up? Do you know how much I love Sega swirl? might I might have an inclination Yeah' I think you could do the fifty dollarars Sega swwirl. We're talking about what price like a game needs to be made at. That one's probably like a fifty dollar price U four player dream cast, Sega Swirl if you haven't played it. They spend all the money on two Bock. they Yeah exactly. Yeah. worth it. wororth every penny. wantty bucksone two hundred there or X or Y. I've never seen people so universtally be like No, that is not it. I listen, I think it's so stupid like, but it's stupid in a way that I like for Yakuza, but it's like once you start looking at like RrGG's recent trends. Yeah It's like Oh wait, this is actually an indication things are really messed up. Have you become a bad decision machine? Yes, exactly. It's like do you wait do they know it's stupid? I don't know if they know it's stupid I think honestly there's so much reaction against it They are Reistically considering Can we change this at? What if they shifted him to virtual fighters? That whole franchise is buildt on the best stupid stuff. D stupid They have like changed on Braing. Stupid Bad is still their brand. That' true. It's just if you listen, I was at the hitman and James Bond event yesterday. if you want to heat up A well known musician Wiz La is in hitman. Yes. And they are like did be an and M. So happy to be there. Yeah But he's alive and said okay, so it's a little bit different. Yeah tovent he might as well have been on. I mean, what Snoop said on stage indicated that he's been working with the estate and that he has too guys think it's not his family. No interroscope, right? Yeah like when is a manager his family is like vocally against you they're suing to a sayate. It's like it it's bad. like it's b. It'supid the way those games are, but it just feels like I don't think they know it's stupid. And that's like the thing that scares me. ye Hopefully R. I mean a lot of ke people left RGG recently and I think it's starting to show. Yeah. Yeah All right, we got to wrap up this segment. Thank you all so much. That was really great. I love talking to y'all. We're going to get to our next segment here really quick. Tupac's going to be here. Tup The hologram we booked. We'll see if he shows up. If you don't wishlist it, we never end this segment and Jeff Grub never goes home. Yeah. Oh shit. they actually don't want that. So careful. So how's it going with the game Oh my Godd, today was awesome Today was awesome. Like Just seeing people that have never seen it before play it was really validating for me, but also seeing strange playstyles. bugs I've never seen before, but caused by the fact that it's really hot in there. but it was just an awesome day. Got some really good feedback Really good response. Is that like a kind of exciting thing? likeike,h, we're going to put this game in front of people and it's like now we can really see what goes wrong, what goes right? I mean, that's always a side benefit of these things. I mean, I've been doing this for a long time. Generally, the best compliment we got was like, oh, it's like A if you one, but better It's exactly No one's ever played it outside the studio. Nobody has. No. And it's different because at the studio, we've played it so many times and we're so clinical Right? It's like we're like a pro SWAT team. likeike go in, clear the room, ext room, next room. But watching people who don't know each other play You could just say Goofball games journalist. Yeahah. Yeah, Goofball gamesournist but I've seen a wide range of skills today. veryery wide range of skills. But yeah, it was really fun to watch today. I had a really good time. It was just really fun for me. Yeah. As a PR guy, what's like the one two on your game? like the quick sentence. Now we have four players He means like, what's your key to talk? It's fine, Chris. Tell him what the game is. I've been hitting my own bullets all day, so that's what you're gonna get Excellent. Yeah. Braky seem kind of suullen over there. What's what'satter Sullan? or you seem upset. I'm not upset. You thought Jan was mad at you. I'm Jan Big time me earlier today ry, Dra. just said I didn't mean to. You like. I wasn't. I needed the time of day. And them a watch on. Jan knows, Jan's got the time I'm sorry. It's o. I'm not mad at you. I'm just it's just been a long week. No, I'm fine. I this look I'm happy that we're here. Sure. I'm happy that dayaybreak and coldiron and The fine cilaboraters of twentih century games can ensure that somehow this is cash flow positive for whatever the way you've incorporated this nightmare business byy sponsoring it didn't agree to be on a sponsored segment. No. I got sort of backed into it againgst I'm like a spokesperson being held hostage by Ash who is working at daybreak on publishing stuff and he's had that job for you know, seven and a half fucking week. so we'll see See after tonight, how it's going I don't know why you're worried. Nothing a good thing. I'm not worried about it you can't t Does this look like a man who's ever h the snper is still try? I don't gott. Now I'm doing the com overver tonight. I can't win. love you. Honestly, it's so glorious that I am jealous and unhappy. They're just mad becausecause it's lush all. That's what's I' a legitimate. That's a legitate do I do want to ask you, are these shoes okay? I know you're a shoe guy. No, We've talked about your shoes already. If you're gonna pretend for the audience like I didn't already give you shit for your. because I saw you this morning and you're like, I gott to go buy shoes and I didn't ask any follow up questions for why? Well look really look at me.' wearing like weird toe shoes. I'm like what'song with weird to shoes? Yeah, Yeah.' f toe shoes. They're not f. Yeah. shoes that had like ind dense where the toes would I'm pretty upset about the way that looked on camera. Yeah. they're not to shoes. I'll tell you for free. Okay. look great. They didn't look great And then you bought these fucking lifts to try to get just a little bit taller. You're not a short person.. I'm not buying them to be taller. I'm buying them because I'm going to Disney and I need to walk in them all day and they're so comfy and I I need my arch support. Yeah. you do. You're old broken. No, I mean, yeah. And then you, you know, then you eventually got registered for Smmer game fest and you got to go inside. Okay you're forgetting all of my failures today. Yeah. Well and you know what? We're witnessing another one Yeah here we go I'm glad to be here. Well you should, you should. orer aliens fpire Timate two right in the bottom right corner your screen. Where are you wish list it? will wish list it. sorry wish list Bottom left. Yeahah, you're right, bottom left. I was f o Okay, that's my bad, my bad my bad. Yeah. you had nothing to do with this isn't your job.'t like legitimly, by the way, I didn't Yeah. Yeah. No. I mean I approved an airtable ticket about it. Yeah to be like, yeah, sure, fine. Also has Ashman talked to you about butter chicken at all He gave me a long speech about butter chicken. I know Ash's dad is like a god tier chef of Indian cuisine. And again, Ash is like the guy who works with dayaybreak on pub the there. Yes. He's been on the couch before. He's fine. He's great. Plan of fantasy fourteen's very own. Yeah That's right. Yeah, no, yeah, notot the Pokemon ask. the other one. Yeah Hesah, he's great. his dad's a great chef. He made butter chicken bght it yterday and he's like we're going eat today. And was like there's no way. There's no food safety wise. I trust anything left in Dan Reichard's care for more than half an hour. It handle appropriately. Ash's dad, I trust implicitly, to be clear. It's been great burden on Dan Reichard. He is like What do I do with this?, Dan, it's food, just take care. Imagine panning Dan like your baby. Yeah. Hey, I gave you a dish of static food where nothing has to happened. He's like, Oh my God exactly what he sounded like Yeah. Yeah. He's the world's simplest man. Frank, how you doing I am doing so great. The immediate thing, when I was most excited about Summer Games Fest is I wanted to film a pinball interview with Jeff Baclar. So I got my exclusive interview But then in preparation for the convention, I found out there's no embargo. Stern pinball's here too. Yeah. So this is now the hub spot for pinball documentaries this weekend. Yeah. And I have an appointment for a new game tomorrow potentially I'm very fired. Trformers is over there Making I will say they also have a high scoreboard and I am number three on King Kong and number three on Pokemon. As soon as I get to play Transformers, I'm going for the top three spot. Where are you relative to Jeff backack? I think I'm higher than Jeff on I haven't played Trformers, but I think on King Kong and Pokemon. So yeah, I got I gott to fight for my spot That's a man with such a sincere joy and passion for something. It's weird. Do you remember what that feels like? No. I don't know. It's kind of gross actually. I was saying to be kind I don't know him want to be mean. Oh here we go. It's a nice me either. I'm just actually mean. fuckingver. Frank, how's the pitball duck going Oh my go. so I started it like two months ago. I was in April or I was in Vegas for WrestleMania weekend and I spent two days straight at the pinball Museum. And it's the greatest place in the world. I was just telling Jeff, there's a Beetlejuice pinball machine up in Van Nyys like like You know, miles away from here. So every day I'm on pinball matches exploring going over. I want to go to Japan for Tokyo Gamees show, but the real reason Osaka has the silver Ball pinball museum. half of Japan's pinball machines are in Osaka. Whoa. So I want to go and they have an ultraman machine there too. feel like I feel like sort of like designated sururvivor wise that's not responsible. They should space those things out. No, right I don't know. Osaka the center of Japan If thing happened R? I feel like that's a all those marles. There was like a sink hole. It can weigh it down. Okay. Yeah who's third in the line of succession for pinball president. That's what'm woring about. He's a secretary of agricultureinall. There's a ski resort in Nagand that has two machines. That's like north and on top of a mountain. so it kind of balances out.. Maybe. Yeah keep those ones safe. Absolutely. Yeah. So you fle out there, how long did you spend out in Oscaka covering? I haven't haven'tone to Osaka yet but I to go. I want to go but it's too hard. In the last In the last two years, I've gone to Japan times and I want to go back again every time I go I make a different documentary. I did one on DDR. I did one on Japanese arcade games. I want to go to Tokyo Gamame show. And then if anyone wants I don't know. I'll talk to anyone in Japan about anything. or anyone here? I don't know. is actually Aliens is big in Japan. Yeah. I'm excited for Aliens fire teeam elite two to oneQushed it. Got the name in one. Daniel O'Dwire can't afford to send you to Tokyo? You know I whyy am I a subscriber to Dani O'dwire's Patreon? got Patreon. We got no clip. I got no. Hey, Danny Send the man to Tokyo do it. I'll go to anywhere. was all the money I gave you. Do it. I'm clipping this microphone out. I don't give a shit. S Sen. We met seven minutes ago and I'm furious Jessic how are you doing I'm good.m I'm sleepy But you know, that's kind of the name of the game.. You couldn't help yourself when we were getting set up, You were being a very motherly to everyone here. Is it like you've got to take care of everyone at gameespot? Is that how that works? Well, I work remote. so mostly I'm just like making sure I drink water while I'm in my cave. Sure. But you know, I like to think emotionally, I do. I think now officially I am the One woman at Gamees Sot. weird there's Yes. Yeah. should maybe I shouldn't be roasting about that, but you know at least in terms of writers in video team are written in video team there's me Do you still feel like, u There's space for women in your side of games us Everybody else is like rosy, It's like, Hey, what do you think about misogyny? Yeah. What do you think about it? Yeah. I seems like it might be bad, You know, it's an interesting time because I feel so You like to think that Progress is happening But I feel in some ways It was a little bit easier when I first kind of got into things about four and a half years ago and it's a little bit freaky right now. Yeah. But you know, I try to do what I can. I try to help mentor other women. haveve taken on, you know section of Gameespot where I'm working on opinion pieces and features and I'm kind of the head of features for the site right now. and so I'm trying to commission a lot of people who haven't written before, a lot of people with different backgrounds and that's kind of an initiative that's important to me. So I am doing my part in what I can. and it's honestly it's the most rewarding part of my job. so I can't complain in thatered has J Pump considered ever hiring anyone that's not? What do you mean? I don't know. Like what? I'm just saying, we got like a cool dude. we got a shitty dude. Yeah I think actually the true universion is should be less shitty dudes. Yeah, listen, we haven't even figured out any of our business yet and it's been a year. All right. Yeah. Yeah, equal opportunity. go Equal opportunity. Yeahah, absolutely. job. So Gameespot still feels like it is going along. You guys are writing a lot of features. I mean, I've been reading your guys' stuff and it does seem like you guys are doing more and more of that. Yeah. L I genuinely, I mean, I feel like regardless, right, there's that like pressure of like I need to go on here and be a spokesperson for the brand and say good things, but like sure very genuinely, I do feel like I am the most confident and satisfied in my work than I have ever been U I think that there's more There's a lot of effort. and I do have to say we recently had Chris Grant who is one of the co founders of Polygon. He is now our EIC and he is amazing. Like genuinely it is so nice to have someone in a position of power who x is like sort of a middle between like us, right? and then like are higher ups who understands what both sides need and like genuinely cares. And so I cannot say enough good things about him honestly. and I feel very u I'm happy with the direction we're going in. I really am. Yeah. Can you imagine coming on Giant Bomb and feeling like through the history and what that of what Gaypot has done to this to this platform that you have to like do positive PR. It's like literally marching in T the NRA and saying that we should take guns away. It's just like it's just like it's it was incredible. I heard you guys this is so inside baseball, but switch CMS is finally. We did, o my God. I'm so so happy. And the old CMS was giant bombs. So that all the nightmares you were dealing with for ten plus years. Yeah, that was our fault. Yeah. was it was such a nightmare. Like for those of you who are not complete nerds, that basically means like the backend where we Write articles content management system. management system. Act. it was it was basically the equivalent of using like DOS Yeah. It wasn't quite that bad, but it wasn't far from it. And essentially it got to a point where we are like, we either need to hop off of this and have a new system or all of the people who can fix it who made this are gone. So it's we're going to lose the website, we can't maintain it. So we finally switched over. It's so good. it's so easy to use. it's so like I'm so happy. I'm happy you're free of what we did to you. Absolutely. Yes. It was v was your Yeah, that's right. Yeah. It really G Coder abbsolutely. ye. Tyler, how you doing man Dude, I'm doing great, like Life is good, man. Summer game fests, best time of the year for games, everything. Nothing else like it, dude. Yeah, you know, I was I actually like so glad I don't have to do your job I'm glad I get to do my job honestly. Not in like can tell you like it. Yeah, not in like a corny like but like it's so worse when you have to be like n like you got when you're nice about your job. Oh it' I really like it actually. is's like good. No, it's great. like everybody's out here. I mean, especially like Yeah, we all work remote. well, we don't all work most of us work remote in this industry, like a lot of you know, email back and forth email jobs, like so it's great to just like come out and see people and shake hands and catch up and like bullshit sometimes and Yeah, and that's that's somethingly like I wass going to say. likeike it does seem like everyone's here. like like nothing else is like it. I mean, you don't get this set. Any other showcase, any other thing like best. Yeah, it's like because the reason I said that is, you know, not want to do your job is it's got to be hard to like wrangle press any out. And then on top of that, there's just not a lot left. So yeah Yeah it's been a big change. I mean, you know, I wish people paid writers more and more outlets would invest in like good journalism, but like it's amazing all like the independent outlets that have cropped up the last couple of years like doing the good work and the outlets that are still out there, like Kick an ass, Gamepot, great example. Giant bomb, great example. Yeah never h. Okay example ye yet take back. Yeah. yeah. But no, it's like It's hard. it's changed a lot, but I mean, they's still great people doing great work and like trying to And they make it as easy for them as possible. I Mike Benoti. You know the follllowers, seven out of ten, ye. targeted. Tyler, did you what gives you reon this this week? Be I'm not I't say yet technically right like everythingthing's embarged Everything's embargowed we got T tell me why, canan you tell me why everything's embargowed? Yeah, no, it's just things are spaced out, you know, different iff different activations and didn't upside No I have no comment on any on any such matters. A lot of stuff embargoed to like July. I'm assuming like what'? Yeahah, I'm assuming they're gonna to do this year why and then go to like some Gamescom bullshit or something. I don' That's in late August. Yeah. I' heard a few things where it like that's the exact reason iss like there's a few games where it's like a month long embargo and I don't know, it's not Gamescom because that's a Yeah. Games Com, Latin America, who knows Yeah because they want to have the same embargo date for multiple outlets globally. So Okay. Yeah we had some cool stuff in the showcase on Friday from Tiny Build. a lot of inv stuff Yeah So tank crawling nightmare comees down in like two days. get into wishlist that wishl Aliens fire teeam of too' in the bottom leftric corner screen, but that gy is also a pretty cool Tiny builds cool But it was cool. It was nice like the new venue, the Dolby Theater, the the Oscar Oh, that's right you get to go to the show and like see it. likeike ye, people seem to like the Dolby Theater a lot more. Yeah. I mean Hollywood, you know, Hollywood, but, you know, the The theater was cool. It's in a mall. moie theatererss in the middle of a mall. Yeah, that was new information. The lids across from the entrance. All right, well, that's pretty get a hat. It is. So when you see Scorsesee coming out there, he's just like You went to Subway right before that L when they legit when they do the red carp of the Oscars, It's like they wal up a part of the street and that's like this big they wallk off all the stores, but it's just like the esalators just in the middle of them bizarre Whenever a Final Fantasy remake was announced, they did the orchestra and they did it in that theater. And I remember like I got dressed up for it and I was like, o, this is where they hold the Oscars. That's so cool And then I go No one's dressed up because it's a game orchestra. No one No one cares. And also it was in a mall. and I was like, I feel like a dork right now. No no, they were wrong. You were right. Yeah. likeike one hundred percent. You should enjoy. And if you forget something, Sephora is open untilll get some of the free trials. is fine. Chris, you mentioned you' been working in the industry a long time. Yeah. what's some stuff you've worked on So I was a lead designer, Middle of Honor. I was the Before we had design directors, the director of the franchise for seven years home front publishing creative guy for Space Marine, some other stuff Howave things changed since like Middle of Honor versus now U ucking modems And I just figured we could curse here. So like this. It's em Chris do Yeah. So actually I was saying, I was telling somebody I was like, I miss working on a PS one and PS two because no modems. you sent things out clean. Yeah. No day zero patch, no day thirty patch and it was done. you got two weeks of comp time and see you later.ike we did plug computers into the phone line thingsings have kind of sucks in ye, but it's, you know, PS three on, right? Yeah. So no, but generally I mean, it's like a layer cake design just sort of builds on itself, right? And so As much as things change, it's still kind of the same. The people are Always u hardwking, creative types and we're always just trying to make it. So I'm excited. It still working on big projects, though, do you ever like dream of like, going in the woods making a tiny little game. O the last five minutes, I've been trying to think what the design is for pinpocalypse. Yeah to sa how to save the world by posting high scores. Yeah.' That's how empty brain is right now. highly played ball like I'm like, yeah, I'm like is it Rllers of the realm or is it like, you know, like fight What is it? like fight story or like where you manage pinball machines or something? It like, I don't know there's something there. Pinocalyus is going to be awesome for. We haven'terted the gameet so I do need you to stay focused on aliens Aliens fire Eite comoming out this year. Aliens fiream stop thking about that Get the wish list now. God Yeah, talk more about the game. Why not? Let's do it. Yeah. what is is like exciting about a fire teeam elite too You know what's really fun is four player co op. Yeah. basasically that's like when you get three buddies and you all just jump in and spec out, like we have so many customization and weapon options and we have a new class called the Specialist, which is fully customizable. Just watching people coordinate and cooperate, it's super fun. And like I can't wait to play with my buddies. Yeah Actually I don't have friends anymore. I mean, I get it, say. Yeah, That's a hassle. I work in video games. There's no friends There's no friends. Ohit wrong. I't tell people that but it's the truth. That's Frank, like you guys been working a documentary game for a long time. now. You said you'd make a ton. E time you go to Jan, you make one. What's it like working with with Danny on that stuff? Do you guys have like a lot of yeah, thumbs down as No it's all it's super cool. Like with this year, we launched No Clip two and now Our team is now five people and We have our big like I feel like we drop like two or three big projects per year. We did discolysium.. Jeremy just put together a Star Wars Galaxy documentary that's coming out very soon. One of our team members, No Caps just has a new video coming out soon about the history of game jams I'm doing my pinball thing. Jesse will comb every steam game and do a next best video so like I feel like we all come together as a team to do big documentaries then do our small things to try to keep up with the millions of games coming out, including aliens fire teeam ellite two same's go. There is an aliens Pinball machine down in Marrietta, California. It's a very rare machine's by the Pinball Brothers, but it's good. But yeah, it's but it is very surreal coming here for summer's Games fest trying to keep up with the millions of keynotes and it's like there's too many games So I kind of just ler focus on the ones I like, but I don know, there's a g for everybody, but it's it's so overwhelming to try to keep up with everything. So I just like burrow myself in my little niches and then come back with the fruits of L. Yeah it's like you guys did seem like you had an advantage or like a way of ignoring that you were you could do documentaries on old stuff that you did care about. Now you guys are trying to keep up with games with no clip to seemems it's like a bad idea. I feel a terrible joice. It's's it's cool because like Now I'm on I feel like we're on a billion PR list. So I get we get so many emails, but I feel so s because it's like, holy shit I can't. I want It's like, you know, I wish we can just we could we could cover everything, but Ill know, it's Seeing like the amount of games being released is more and more heav year, seeing that every game is coming out in September. it just kind of inspires me. There's so much cool shit to play that it's like, o, I'll never run out of stuff. So I don't I feel like hopeful and excited just to keep going forever. Yeah game des I say like a wild little fun fact just for everyone and the folks at home. It's like so there's an awesome guy at my work named David. And David's whole job is to Basically update our databases. anyytime a game is announced, anytim there's like a date change, it is a constant updating of this giant database we have of every single game And it used to be, I think, David said where he would be able to add like tenen a day, maybe is like ten to fifteen a day. and that was when he started like I want to say eight years ago, nine years ago. He now, I think A month averages somewhere between three thousand to five thousand new games entered in our database every single month. That's giving me adjecta. It's like Is that all platforms Yeah, yeah, it is it is I mean, it was always his full time job, but it is a full time job.od dooc is going to break at some point. Yeah. right. I don't even know what we but I don't I just write I just write words. I just play games and write words. But yeah, he is a one man army and that just goes to show you how many games are being made. Yeah,' a lot He sounds like he's going to have the game version of going postal. He's just gonna to actually Yeah. Let's see the lines of games coming out. Its Yeah I mean, Haly onstage was it yesterday or whatever the day before was like, hey, nine thousand five hundred games coming out. I love that slide. Yeah, that was the se I told him that. I was like, don't know what we were doing that job That seems like he was likelo. He's like,'t this fuc rule. It's like I'm kind Ick got this X ray. Look at this crazy hre. I was like, Oh, that seems like a smash. Yeah I was auck man madeade my heart skip a beat for sure. Yeah. I mean You deal with this, right? Oh, I mean, there's so many games and what I've heard tonight is if you want no clip to cover it, make it a pinball one and they not the coverage there. They are good. Yeah. That's like the hardest part of like my job anymore, aside from all the other horrors is just like I genuinely wish that I could cover much more than I do, but I am one person. And so I will get like for every email you send out as a PR person, like I'm getting one hundred and something emails a day. And it' I just o no. I understand. it is the job. but it's kind of like it reminds me of like with teachers and stuff, right? whereere it's like when you're a student, you have seven teachers or six teachers or whatever you're a teacher and you have all these different classes, you have like three hundred students and it's like way harder to know the names and to be on top of stuff. And like that's kind of what it reminds me of. Not that what I do is anything is nobble teaching, but it's just kind of that vibe where it's like, I wish that I had the capacity But it's it's tough. There's a lot of games. There's a lot of good games Yeah, it always feels like because I like the job so much and I feel the same way. I does feel like I'm always working, even when I'm like looking for these small little games. its even when you play something and you're like like on your off time, you're like, you know, I don't have anything that I'm obligated to do with this. But then in your brain, you're like, ooh, I could write a piece about like this feature that I really like or I wonder like What the voice actor was trying to do here or like you're always thinking that way and it's very hard to turn your brain off. Yeah, so basically Frank, why would you do this? Yeah like For me like I went to film classes, I end up teaching documentaries and like I feel like everyone has a unique perspective on something. So like even me, I only just got to sorry, bring everything back. because was all my life's been for two months. It L like I've beenored pinball games for like thirty years. They've been around for a hundred years, but like now coming into it in twenty twenty six, I feel like I have a unique perspective. and like anyone has unique perspective on any piece of property and it's kind of fun Hearing all the noise, but like Like I like collapsing things like like Malcolm Bladwell finding the social science links of everything and making a point about stuff and it's like There's so much stuff. ourur times are so limited. Everyone's going to die. I I want to play as much as possible So I don't beat every. Well, I mean, xenomorphps could break in much like the P only That cannot happen. It could. Okay. Yeah. I don't know. I feel like I just like trying stuff and uncovering stuff. and everyoneone works so hard. with all the games serers we go to people are working on games for like six years, game development is getting longer and longer and it's like play the game for a day. let Let me try I'll try your game for people spend years making stuff. it's like Oh my Godd. So it's fun to uncover stuff and then when something clicks, it's magical Dra when you hear all this and you work at Disney on games, you just like We have the biggest IP we could break through or is it still a hassle for you to like get attention? I just like the idea that you get sent emails and you can just choose not to you age with that. You would hate me The amount like Oh no, I don't, sorry, you're misinterpreting the order of the feedback I'm giving, which is not I'm not saying, oh, I can't believe if I emailed you wouldn't have to email. What I'm saying is I Chris gets an email We can he can't be like, I don't want to think about that today. Tough shit. We got to make a video game. We got no time left. everyveryone's going to die. Look lookook, if Jan sends me an email, I have to answer it. If PR sends me an email, it's like, look, I I don't work for you. That that's that's true. That's how we have true. So that's true. Yeah, But so there are thousands of emails I do not look at all that's that sounds like a dream. Yeah, it's that's pretty nice, but also then you see the big number and that feels bad too, but I' not I mean, I see big numb feel bad all time. Yeah. I use computer and feel bad. I and feel bad. Yeah there's bad computer S sometimes there's good computer, but mostly it's bad computer. Yeah. I don't know. I can try to answer the first question I' ever anwer on a giant Pom catch. I mean I don't I think I pe you know, properties and world people know helps break through or helps make people kind of like pay attention the same way that like Every pinball table you name checked has a brand associated with like I don't think that that Good, a great moovie, franchise or animated, film, whatever like that on top of a bad game is a bad game It doesn't matter. If anything, I feel like that it could be a little bit worse or because then it solely that brand. because then it's like, well That licensense game, o they historically put out pretty bad gam. Yeah I Chris is deal with people like me, and he's like, I'm trying to make a video game and someone's like, actually the ZM MR's tale doesn't grow that way. He's like, Jesus Christ, I made Medal of Honor No I didn't have people in the army come in here tell me what to do. So I think it's rough, but no, I don't know. We manage to get by, we're happy with that. Excellent. Well, Drag for answering that question. I do want to do something nice for you. Great You are our longest tenure guest on the c I believe thirteen times. More than that. but yeah, more than that even. Yes. R no more summer Right Yeah twenty twenty seven, next one. twenty twenty seven's not gonna to happen, so we don't have to worry about that either. That's a bigger conversation. Yeah No There's not two more days of summer game Fest at all. No, we're good, right? It's not like it just started. Yeah. ye. Well, I'm great. Yeah, me too. How are you guys all hanging in there? Jennifer, what's the summer game fest like for you? We're hanging in. It was great. We were at IGN Live the other day. hang we out here. Yeah,'ve gotta do it Seeing, Jeff, I'm ready for the Xbox showowcase tomorrow, so we got ay we got a busy weekend. I got a question for you. What you I heard what you do, but what do you do do like I know wouldn't me anything I said Doo Yeah. Okay you said doo. I do it on purpose? Listen, I do cool brand partnerships for gamers. Okay. Making sure brands don't like ent our space and look like idiots or end up on Reddit is like my only goal in life. But like for instance, right now, we have a Xbox like Fanta program. So we got like five Xbox games on Fanta We've got three Xbox games on trolly. so you buy product in store, you get like digital skins and like content for the games online. So. Last up You don't to throw anyone under the bus, but like are you often surprised how little peopleople who work at some of these companies understand games. For me, it's like I learn everywhere. How do you not get this shit? but I run into it. Yeah, Especially on the brand side, but it's fine.ike they don't to know I'm That's their job. I'm the expert like just trust me. Yeah. Like we did a crazy, I don't know if you guys saw like the Moa Burger Pringles for like halo a few years back And for yourself.'s the royal came. We were like, Kelloggs, please just like fucking trust me. Like we have to do a space ostridich chip And even Halo was like, Oh what? Moa? L that's a deep cut. And I was like, please just let it happen and both sides were super cool and it happened. It was it was awesome. Did you put invinciible Vinces here oner right in front of me that I'm looking at? I didn't do that one, but I have done voodoo before, but invinciiblevinces. game. Vooder Ranger probably could do that themselves. They' they' they know they knowood Ranger know. How's IG and live going? Oh man, it's the hottest show on the block. It's the one show that people can get tickets to and hang out code they can use, arere you one of those people?. I Damn. Okaykay, so I was supposed to do that I bad someone told me to do it. Ik the store giant bomb. com andad That's going to be my promo code. Yeah yeah that spelled out. wouldould you ask I might I might have a promo code for IG and Live. I think it's friends of CA or CA friends. so Damn b.' doing much job on me. You use a code Jeffrey. to my boy, Jeffrey Vega. But no, IG and Live is cool. I've seen it grow every year. This is the third year. Yeah. And I like you've been there for all three, right? I've been there for all three Last year I did a lot of production for segments. This year I did a lot of pre production because I'm at SGF bouncing the. I don't know the difference Yeah, him. Well I'll l this. The growth I saw is me not chilling is that the growth from year one to year two was massive. Like ourur second floor had activations, had things to do. People were just hanging out. And and you'll love to see it. It's like, oh, people want to come here, people want to hang out. People want to meet us at IGN, which is like, surprising to me I'm like I don't know, I'm just some guy my room and I write articles and Do other things in my room. And so What? Hey, I don't no. That's what we talk about hereep I eat A game. Oh shake in room, you know what I'm saying, Oh playay with Rrody. whooa. It depends on who you are Yeah. But anyway, like the growth was crazy Actually, I did a lot of pre production this year because I had to go to playldays But so I haven't seen the show, but I saw pictures of the line was wrapped around the corner. Yeah. I was like damn I didn't know we got it like that So we have one more day. Today is Saturday Right? Fuck. Okaykay, yeah yeah. Yeah go So Sunday, tomorrow, I'm gonna be on stage Yeah, today. But yeah Tmorrow I'm on stage. We're doing unlocked live. I am part of the unlocked crew. We're doing the pre impo show for Xbox Showcase And then we're going to have a meet and greet, which is kind of crazy because like You could just like dap me up in the street. You don't have to go to a p. Yeah. I'll sign knock on your door. You can come to his house. I'll find whatever y'all want. You can just dap me up it's fine. But we're doing that and that's crazy. And I expect there to be a big crowd. There was a big crowd last year. Hopefully the same this year and then we're going to do bunch of. so. ye, man, That's awesome. Yeah, I'm happy for you guys. likek you. That first year was like, it seemed like you guys like saw you You look stressed, like there's so much going on here. There' was a lot of shit happening in my life mouth. Yeah. You seem a lot more like, well, we got this now. It know how it feels It's one of those things where like you do it once and there's like a lot of things that you lessons learned and all that. once you get that out of system, what I noted like I don't need to worry about the things I was stressing about last year. I already know that. so I could do a better job with pre production. I understand who to talk to. I know All the moving parts. there's so many moving parts. When you put on an event When you put on an event of that scale, there's so many moving parts. Yeah, you wouldn't know that, Jen. No, but like shout out to y'all because like having two people behind the camera running all this shit it's crazy. It's a lot of work. Honestly, it's like it really is like twice as many as we normally have. So that's pretty cool. Yeah I makes a big difference. They've been doing a great job this year Kelly how you doing? R I saw control residents. that was my big thing. And that one we could talk about, right? Yes. Yeah. Again, it's been frustrating like having people on the couch like, hey, Star Wars Galactic Cruiss are see in July Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, o, I wouldn't really want to talk about that now, but everyone seems to be pretty happy with control. Yeah, it was like my main big appointment to do. And that embargo lifted like during SJF liive You can talk about it, but it's like Platum games ish. like a lot of like you have to Hill to not be killed to keep killing until everything's dead ack him That' so true I really, I mean, I love that universe. I'm very bought in on the remedy connected universe. Yeah I love Alen Wake two. shhout out to doing Algebra and Alen Wake two. I didn' o my God, puzzles. Not enough people appreciated how fun it was for me to do algebra to solve the puzzle. That was one of the things I asked in my interview. I was like, does this game have algebra in it? Are you just like very excited about Professor Layton coming back? Is that you're like I just it was the best I felt about math was algebra in eighth grade. And it never it was downhill from there. Yeah. they told me I was gifted until then. Yeah. Yeah exactly, exactly. So it was over. madeade me feel like, wow. I'm really doing something with my life. Yeah. But yeah, it's thing that they said when they announced contontrol resonident was like You can play them in either order. which I it's a sequel. so I was sort of like, well, how does that work? Not that it can't work, but like how are we doing that? And they kept talking about how it's like w sides of the same coin These are it's these are related stories. They're complimary. Yeah, but they're complimentary. It didn't click until I played it. And then I really got the sense of like This isn't about, okay, Jesse Fayden's story happened to control and this game' about what happens next. It was more like, We saw Jesse's story and now we're seeing the world of control ree with her brother Sylon Ny on gon long gone He spits on fire Yeah Let' see you Squiblon wherever you are, brother. What's man, rememedy is so I like remedy because they just make games for remedy. This whole idea of like you could play either game one or the other in any order is something I like the idea of, but I know a lot of gamers they just want to play in order thatre like just tell me what to play first. I just want to know I'm going to do it that way. And Remy is like, we don't care. our last game was a musical. fuck you Yeah I like that. Is that coming through and everything that you solve control Yeah, I mean, there was a section that it wasn't a musical section. but It was a really cool like going through kind of a fucked up apartment building and then you can change where gravity is. so you can and I immediately was like, I'm going get motion sick playing this, but I lived.. And there was like a music component to that So I was like, okay, as I expected a v you remedy, I'm happy about this. but it was hardorry also I have a question. Yes, because you bring up a good point Do how? Not you, please. The man know there's a couple of women we've had on the show. you know today? Wswth is a different thing. different Yeah you're right. No one's quite sure How do you think What is where does the responsibility lie Right between Games press, all six of them and the studios. Yeah, no like half of them are in here. And the studios to educate the player about like they're not and the audience, the consumer that there is not a quote correct way do a thing because I had a friend who posted on they Iosted a story on Instagram And it was it was three Xbox one games. I said. Or baby. And it was Titan fall one, Titan fall two, and battlefield one. and she put a poll up that was like, which one should I play first? So obviously, and we're all gonna to say it together. I voted forall two. Great job buddy. And seventy percent of them voted for Battlefield fucking one. Yeah. What are we talking about? that's And then I was like, okay Messenger, I was like, please, please, please. row a battlefield into the carbard. My vote counts for like right one least like your Instagram. You need to play Titanfall too. And she goes, do I need to play the first one? And I was like that's crazy. No. Like just play just play play the good game. Like play the good game What how do we what do we do? Did you study just not The first one didn't even have a campaign? Well No It's a campaign that you played in theult before the multiayer, but it didn't. Can you study World War two before World War one how of a question you're asked,uh. Yeah Well what's the answer to that question? I'd r do it in order. I'd rather start from the wring of the brother.'s the first war. Tell me so. Nicki, I think like that's the thing I always think about. L I do a podcast that some people listen to and I'll like, I'll go in there with my I think it's called Game Mest decides. Yeah I'll go in there and Yeah Game. Oh no Yeah. Yeahah, absolutely. And I'll there. I have the right idea Yeah and I have the right opinions and I'm going to go explain it to people and it's like, oh, yeah, everyone just has that same feeling. So I have to like come in and be like, it's not my responsibility to go in there and be like, let's teach anyone anything about how to think about this stuff And you're going to get a lot of battlefield one wrong opinions. Yeah likeike that's just going to happen I'm not going to stop shouting like no if I put a titan fall to exactly. And I think that's maybe where the responsibility lies. Yeah. It's like You have to sing the praises of the things that are up to your friends to tell Yeah Yeah very sure. That's like what the conversation could kind of turn into. It's like, let's just like talk to each other, have a friendly conversation. and then people can hear that, be like, oh, I really liked the way they were passionate about that and take that away. And that's all we can do here. Yeah. And I will say like for control as a series, if you haven't played control My whole preview was about how you could them in either order from what I gathered. R? Where can I read that if I want to At the Vverge. com. But if you go to my bllue sky page, you can get a gift link. so if you're not a subscriber to the Vverge. com yet. we also put it on store. giantbomb d. com It's do on store. com bot com. Um But I would highly recommend playing control. So it's a little bit different than the Titan Fall one and super where it's like, no just stick to this's If you start with resonident great, you have something great waiting for you when you're done if you haven't played. I think it just says a lot about the way that they're making those games of like Yeah, like you might get spoiled by this, but you're going to have different reverse things spoiled in the other direction not spoiled in it.ike that's interesting too. Yeah. And they have this web in their head that they're that they want to explain to people And we just don't think that way as gamers typically. Yeah. Yeah. People are really worried about consuming things wrong. Yes, they really are. yeah, that's one of my things where it's like, no, you're gonna be fine. Watch fucking Star Wars backwards. I promise It's okay. It literally won't. I have a control question Did you experience or see any live action FMV demos? Yeah excellent. Okay. I would love to hear about that. Yeah Well, I saw everybody's favorite doctor Darling. Awesome. Nice. who is a delightful character who I love very much, so I was excited. Um So yes The best part of remedy games. Yeah. That's why I was as we talk about earlier. I'm like, that's I just wantan to hear that They don't actually do it in every game, but they do it in most of their games and it is so cool just to see them work and make that stuff happen. If If you play a series backwards, everything's a prequel. Yeah. Dam. dropping it. Dam, what are you thinking about? U you know, I just quit.ball basketball. wait. How quickly I can get home? Re Are the Nicks sweeping or does Victor win one. the N win I think the Kicks are winning this season. I think The Nick will win I think if they sweep They are going to create the worst monster the M going to win the next ever scene. Yeah. He's going to be like No one's winning anything ever He's going win the Olympics next time. He's gonna win Oh my God. Yeah. I cannot fucking wait. He's going to destroy Oh, there's nothing better and the Rorld Cup starts in a couple weeks If you're looking for a team to root for, is anybody that the United States has bombed is a really good way to determine who you should root for So like d all of them, right Yeah books. I feel about Americans, but us losing in the cold Mal game. In twenty twenty eight. in the United States at basketball is going to go so fuck It's not number one that you would win. We have to win. No They're going we're going to lose he's going to be a monster. He really gets. We' going to be' to here first. Let's see in twenty twenty eight. j. You know was thinking about that a little bit I also play I saw a game What can you talk. Oh is Jen Atlas? Yeah, Jen Atlas. he to Jen L for me talking Rs dot com. Which I've never spoken to him before, never interviewed him before He is exactly the person that you think he is. Yeah He doesn't do a lot of interviews so doesn' he hates. I think he pretty much hates doing interviews and he doesn't like cameras. So when the camera pointed to him at Summer Game Fest I was like it was like I was like, he's hating this every second of this. but Yeah, he is he's that thoughtful kind of interesting introspective very ennjoyable to talk to person U and like I just talked to him about So the thing that they showed us was what everyone else saw, but I just talked to them about like, Hey, man, you make games that change people's lives. Are you H you feel the pressure? When I played Shadow of the Colossus. I was like, o my Godd, we're here. We're going to be getting games like this for the rest of our lives. Isn't that awesome? And then that didn't happen. It's ' only he can make them. Yeah. And I asked him like, do you feel the pressure to out a game, have this game be one of those games where it's like I play this game and it changed my life And he was like I do but I also don't think about it sure because People tell me it has changed their lives I've never tried to do that. I just make the games I like. So my strategy is just to continue making the games I like and I hope that it has that same intended effect on people U and based on what I saw of that game, he's making one of those games, man. you're going to love that robot probably. Yeah. Is that robot's going to be your friend? you're going to fall in love with it? It'll probably like plug into the wrong ethernet port and get a irus and then you have to reformat it and then it'll die You're cry. Some mad shit like that, you know so I spoke to him about that was the main thing I did today I know, I was also well Same thing that Calie did, like control Um But I'm also also making a game We've working on a game.one. I'm making it with a team. All right They are called Hart Lube games. They are very, very scrappy M creative te that I watch in their discord and I watch them make it an extraction shooter. They are making a rogue fighting game called Polyfighter. Oh that's awesome. It's a video in June. Oh's Slay the spire but every fight instead of being card based is a am fireen. off to each part You get to take one of those moves from your opponent and move on until you keep you know, you make your way to the top and I'm working on the narrative behind that game. so I'm working on I've done dialogue so far for some of the stuff that people have seen. It's been wild seeing like Very small YouTubers and Twitch streamers trying the game and then like in the middle of like a splash screen they'll see a little pun in there And they'll be like, that's funny. I'm like ass huh That Is this a jry bomb exclusive? I's not to say is that. I have never revealed it anywhere else. Wh like tell all the bullshit, like where they can find or where they can find it. can you can wishlist it on Steam. now it's called Polyfighter. You you guys might be familiar with Osama Dorius you working with Assama Dor? Yes, I'm working withama. I'm actually in the game voicing a character as well. That's how I started. I was in there. Oh I just I'm just so multic talent. I went in to voice the voice the character and they were like, oh, you know, we're trying to work out voice send like lines and stuff like that. And I was like, okay, so who's a writer? And they were like We don't have one. O well, I' love it for you if you want. And they were very, very gracious and they were like, Okay, well, we'll, you know, we're up for it. like if you want to help and I've been doing my best, but like I've never written for a game before and I'm When I get back from here, I'm going to be working out the relationships between characters and writing all the bios to try and Make sure that everyone's interesting and connecting them to each other to create the kind of like world of pooly fighter Um, youre you're like a big like Rum guys that like do you like take something from that where it's like Yeah hide the story in all these little areas a game? I think withame descriptions. Yeah. I think with game The thing with a fighting game, you don't want to because if you look at the actual fighting game, it's not like a dark fantasy. It's very much like a love letter to Yeah all fighting games. Like the main character just looks like where you but from rival schools, you know what I mean? I mean that kind of game, you don't want to You don't want to hide details. You want to celebrate those characters and celebrate that universe. So my plan, I've written some of it, my plan is to personality in there and instead of like hiding the connections, Make it so like you create the connections overtly. So it makes you want and, you know, there's a tease in there for another character. You want to go there and watch it and it kind of like fleshes out The characters and also the world itself. And it's all like it's just set in a city where there's a bunch of gangs in there, there's like multiple factions. Ag, I'm like working on the writing behind that as well. And the people that are entering this tournament are just like random people. Like the character I play owns an arcade and has like been running their arcade and is like And then there's like another character who is just like, hey part time ninja because shek to be a ninja and it's cool And it's like that all kind of graduates into this like nament that they need to fight and each of them has a know path for themselves that they want to get to the end of and free a friend or help their city or that kind of stuff earn money, whereatever it may be. Yeah, it's an interesting It's an interesting experience to be watching like I'm not I'm not going Everyone who else who's working on the game is talented in a way that I could never hope to be. And you get a real real look at how sorry, I'm so sorry. talking about Ify you find your niche, you find the thing that you contribute. Yeah specifically. like this they will look at you and they'll be like, oh, we can't do it. y. Exactly. Yeah. But I love that do is is crazy I will watch them be like Oh, this move is not working. It's unbalanced, is's busted Two hours later, that movev is back. It's animated better, it's fixed, the balance is done. Someone will say like, hey, can you make this character have this effect on them And like a day later, they've got it done. and I'm like, I don't know how you guys are doing this. This is insane, but U It's a very, very small game. It's being made in Canada by Osama, Elaine and a few other people a bunch of other people actually U I think the music is being done by T Mello So if you go into YouTube and search for Polyfire Tum meello, you'll get to hear some of the songs. They are bangers. Um yeah, it's on steam wish list it like follow the game. It's interesting, notot just because I'm saying it, because I've never seen anything like it. and ye mayaybe it'll be amazing. Maybe it'll just be an okay game, but at the very least's I can tell you for sure there's people who really care about behind this. obvious ye and like it. You wantna show to IGM live next year? Let's go. Hell no D you write the character you're voicing or did someone else write that character No, so that character was already there when I was asked to voice it. Sorry, I didn't No please. No, but then obviously when I started voicing it, someone was like We want the character to feel natural to you so you can write your own voice and write your own And like editing. Yeah, edit yourself and make the character kind of feel like you want your stage to feel Exactly. and also like Some of the lines weren't there. Some of the lines, it's interesting because a lot of the lines that when I got there were written by someone who's working in other department, Remy, he works in like The other he's working on art and other stuff and he's French And u So Also localizing I'm kind of localizing but his stuff is there and it's like, Really cool because he loves fighting games. everyveryone loves fighting games and I can see what he's going for because I know the fighting games that he's played and what he's pulling from. And I can take that and like take it and put it into less Frenchy, you know, if you know what I mean, more like readable and like create the conect hopefully I'm not telling you that. I'm a sworn enemy of the French.. French Canadian fine for good. That's courseool. But ye, there's a there's a lineage. If you like fighting games, you look at that and you're like Oh, this is clearly from people who are obsessed with flying games. There's like 's cool. So like when you're when you're playing the game, it's you said it's rogue light. So is there like a win quote after like each battle or like a lose quote like and that's where the story' being told? How does it actually get there is that. Yeah. So its it's actually like It's going to I I expect it to develop further once the game is even out So like wind quotes are there U like a lot of the stuff that I'm doing is going to be like bio stuff and and It will be visible in other areas, not just inside the game outside of the game as well And that's the hope because I mean, the team is very small so It might be something that, you know, we build towards, but We'll get they'll get there We'll get there and to refer to them, but But like I said, the It's an idea that I've never seen before. It's a cool idea and like Those people , man. Like if I left tomorrow and was no longer involved in that project. I would be stoked to keep an eye on that project. It rules. ye. This is the thing that I'm Yeah that I just said ind games. Yeah indie Indie games exact. Yeah. I mean, like indie games and then also fromitu Uita, right? Like like these these people that are really passionate about like guys are still like making games despite all the hoopplg going around about everything being really hard right now. It's also a really nice reminder that I think we need right now that Making games is still accessible to people outside of the people it's still a c thing that you people want to do Yeah. Like you don't have to be anA. you don't have and everyone knows that because we have success stories, but I think the thing that I'm taking away from it is like you don't even need to be like a Jonathan Blow to make a game happen like that. You can just be a person who's decides I would really love to make this and The process of making it is the process of self growth and like learearning to form friends, communities, like find other people who want to make something similar and can get on board and like have different disciplines and you learn from each other. Like I said, I'm learning from these people like in a way that they probably don't realize. I'm just like, soaking up everything quietly and like lurking. Right And I'll like to because obviously I have a full time job as well. So a lot of this like them hitting me up and being like, hey, we have this milestone We would like to have this kind of text available. So like when we put the trailer at, it's not all like you know, placeholder texts, we want people to see it and takeake something away from it, so I'll write that ahead of time. Ecellent. But like my next job is to actually write the characters and flesh them out a bit. to lay the groundwork for the world itself. man I'm looking forward to man.. Can I ask you a question about gummy worormms? Yes. Let's go. What do you want to know Does Xbox come to you or does Trolly come to you and they're like, I want I want the Fort I want the F what's it Hold on. The land Cruiser on the gummy worms. You got there. the land Cruiser on the gummy worms who does that? It comes out of my team's brain honestly. So like we Xbox is a client, we work across all of their games and they'll say, hey, you know, these games are important at this time and all'll I'll trolly and be like, let's do let's do something Troy there's a brand in the world.or Trolly, the heir to the Trolly for you. There's a brand mom I feel like should be in the gaming space is' Fuuegos.o I don't want to' Fugos rise of Can I get a clip of this off YouTube because yeah it's already on my new list. in anything gnder on on Fuegos. tellell him I sent you. No Jiant Bom sent you. fuck you, Tam J, I'll get you guys an ad. it'll be the whole thing would happen. No it's on my list, too so yes. I love that.ust if you guys have any other brands you want, just let me know ye. this is from this is a lifetime ago for me, but I previously worked on the marketing for Destiny at Activism.. Oh yeah. sureure was was. set it gos and worked on the Red Bull campaign that we did. And I think it was first time they had ever put any brand on the Red Bull can Like ever. It was the first time they ever made a change to the can and it was for Destiny.. That was pretty crazy. D you feel like powerful when that happened? Oh, yeah, absolutely. they knewiding on that They knew Bungie had the best gun play in gaming. They wanted to be part of the gun when it was hot, you know? Yeah. Did you in game sparrow that was like red colored Did it give you wings? Did you see these The Twitch track During the summer game Fest Yeah. I didn't hly I. I can't look. It was it was non stop Destiny three logos unbroken. It was there was no other word visible. It's insane that game can't happen. Like an a now. No, The thing that surprised me is That series, that franchise was shit on nonstop. Yeah. Yeah. Like peopleople were hating on it. It felt like, you know, they developed a quite a unhealthy toxic relationship between the fanbase and. But that's like that's memetic, right? Like I don't know if I don't even know if it's if they ninety nine percent of those people give a shit about Destiny Yeah. I think they still do hate that game. Yeah. but it was wild to see so many people like being like, we want Destiny three and it's like You were trying to kill it halfy hour about Y biggest fans are your big biggest hers Every day. dam. That was never more true with Destiny. Yes. ye, I worked on Destiny from A little bit before Destiny one launched through the course of Destiny one and then Destiny two and then a little bit after Destiny two launched. So it's been a long time since I was like partart of destiny Um, but but Wing that whole thing kind of unfold from the inside was like really wild because every single day There would be a new article on Kataku or a new headline somewhere about a thing that was happening on Destiny and it was the number one tract article on that like just where the guy was to buy the guns like I had to writeld no land beyond like three weeks later on. I was writing I was wring that. Thank you. Thank you. Yes. Thankk you. Thank you. appreciate. Where was your articles kept Everyone employed? I wrote hundreds of fin I didn'ty brought hundreds of where is there archouse? I was in Germany when that happened because we were at Games Com. I remember and I got like a text from somebody at Bungie and they were like, You know where there was gal back Wh is to get home to my playaystation. So like like destiny is this like thing that was meimetic. It was like it's part of the culture. And so why can't a third one happen other than like it's the price tag, right? Like it is. Well whoa Sony would have to let a company make a video game that people want to play. Yeah I The number I've heard attached to it is insane though Like for dest J the personnel alone. They have a lot of running that oneuny is a lot. I don't know what their headcount is at this point these days Less. but it is high. Yeah. and it is a very expensive. It's unw like in the best of time In Belleview. Yeah. L they have a huge crazy office space like. Yeah, it's like that is a really expensive studio and if their games aren't making the AAA type of money I don't think there's anyone that think Destiny three coming out wouldn't make the AA kind of money, but even that feels like it can't justify that whole thing. you think the problem is though, is like once a game is like a banger, then people like start micromanaging it. And if you just let the people build the game, that they know is going to be good without like telling them what to do. L you're messing the process up they need to make money in the house, right? they they made themselves unwielding. make they made play is so good. And I booted up Marath. I have a very complicated personal relationship with Destiny where not only did I work on it for about four and a half years I also played thousands of hours of it in my free time. So there was a period of time my life where I was was your whole life. My whole life was just test Now when I see destiny footage, it makes me feel a little bit ill. I love working on it. It was great, but it was just like too much. Yeah it's such a big part of your life. So I had to cut it out for a really long time. And then when Marathon launched, I was like I can't I can't play. I can't play that. I can't do. And then I booted it up and I was like five seconds into it. I was like, Ohh yeah, this is why I' my destiny because best They make the best gun player. It's the it's it's like best Nothing else feels like think about risk Runner, dude Oh don'. I got rat King before it was easy.. I spent an entire weekend when that game launched trying to do that rat king class. I did it. I remember because when Destiny two launched, you reviewed it. and we was booking meeting rooms doing raids and shit. Yeah, we were in a meeting room in the game Sot office doing a raid. It was crazy Uh. Yeah, I'm say.am Yeah. Can I pitch my cool idea? Please, let's doest three. First of I'll go to know Games for Genocide three. Okay, F first of I'll go to noamesorgenocide. com. Thanks. Just keep that There you go. Right up here What if Microsoft. Uh Can't figure their fucking head from their fucking feet Bungie Make Halo that's an idea. I mean honestly, it feels more plausible actually than a Destiny three. or any other thing and it feels like it maybe makes sense for the Sony compomputer Entertertainment cororporation. I mean, like a year ago that was even like more plausible, but like the way it is right now like I'll say it here. Years of war E day was going to be on PS five. Yeah. It's not anymore So then that just happened. Yeah. but that's just a decision that just got me Yeah. And it's like They're going backwards on this stuff where it's like they were like like this battle doesn't make any sense and now they're like, oh, exclusivees to what, sell another twenty million Xboxes. It's like you're a day for Playsttation gamers. Yeah, right? Yeah. He. Well done, Billy. Exactly. Well's bring in here. emg Is it what that stands for? Yeaherg Yeah Eergent. It's when the locest sword came. Yeah. Okaykay.om, there we go Today is Jin Yes.. It's D dayay. I remember back anniversary of D dayay There he is, yeah. Really bringing the mood up. Shs up the Banner Bothers. And that's where we're gonna end the segment All right, fix it, then time, what you gonna do? get yall going to IG and Live the hottest game. All right bomb at night day two continues right after this. Thank you all for that, everybody. Be bye We'll be back as in a moment.. Let's see him. Let's see him Hey everybody, Wlcome back to Giant Bomb at Night Day two. We're hanging out here. It's going to be a lot of fun for our next segment. I'm going to introduce the couch right after I say we're presented by please wishlist Aliens fire teeam elite two. But let's get to the couch right now. I'm gonna have everybody introduce themselves. Please go ahead. intntroduce yourself by the c.. Yeah Yeah. Fal Hantagj, Lberation No director Nahamages K yourcage Mask Hell everyone. My name is Hinao Aakyama and I'll be translating for Dr.or Hamaguchi I'm Mike Benaoti. I work at Giant Ballb. Hi everybody. I like Final Fantasy. I think it's neat Yeah, we're like a final fantasy Final Fantasy seven Remake, partart three, Revelation got announced. What was it like just to get it out there in front of everybody Yo have you d thatin know. mother stops and mininaor. Mother stops and Sin Simasa So finally we werere able to announce, you know, this conclusion to this long awaited series. And so, you know, that kind of feels relieving and like satisfying to be able to do that. Yeah And it's going to be out on everything. Was that something that was like, oh man, we really want to make sure we hit that makeake sure everyone knew that no matter where you're playing, you're going to get to play this game perom that them don put them a predic toory kind of idea. Oh there's nameaio what does decision creator to stayaco content.o heartio you can't You know, as a creator myself, I'd love for, you know, anybody kind of as many as people as possible to be able to play it anywhere anytime they'd like. So that's what we're hoping for. Excellent. I remember you guys talking a while back about eachach game, you want to have a sort of a different gameplay style. And people were I think concerned about this. They weren't sure what that might mean, but I think in this trailer we got an idea it kind of meant like more verticality. Now you have the airship. The world's opening up and we're going to let you do new things while exploring the world. Is that what people should take away from that first trailer we got to see? So no no other than a game noaas Yes Yeah. Is this uh is that something like, um Should people be like thinking like teears of the kingdom? or what would you have a comparison point that people should look to the kingdom Oh I knowib make caroi aca sta for say Kenkono pan youkaran want to Absolutely, we really built upon that exploration that you can do on ground in Rebirth. just expanded vertically and aerial exploration is big for this title. And not only can you parachute down into the ground from the highland, the highind, you can also raise Choobo and fly around being able to reach different places for this title And so in that way, you know, it's just like not just horizontal, but we're making a lot of use of that vertical space in the world now. I guess I'm pretty curious. How open is it from the beginning, right? Is it's still like in rebirth. you have these open zones, but one kind of les to the other Or is that whole world a bit more open from the start since we've been to a lot of those places already o Wm and W D open another the show Ao game o Kzo game or press Ror have wind the news at the gar in the schedle Oh no timingap no Yeah, so around I'd say like five to six hours of gameplay in, you can acquire the high win. And at that moment that timing, around half of the world map can be accessed with Iwin. That's awesome. You mentioned Choobo training. How elaborate of a system should we expect that to be? That was obviously a big fan favorite feature in the original Found Fantasy seven and I' call that andapin ic on the evening of the sh. So I know oasquerao No taking hero there Koa picoo sto in that in there. Do Nroada Hiairkako Jic Kaku use and balanceus. Yeah so I think we kept it balanced in that way where it doesn't like hinder the exploration. So it doesn't it's not like super challenging to raise a Pico and like have that be able to access different parts of the world when when, um, Now that the games, all three games in this trilogy are out Do you feel sort of a relief now that people coming into the series that are very precious about being able to see the beginning and the end can all just see it in one go? And do you expect new people who have been holding off to be like, hey, now's the time to get back into this and see this story through T J mam andatakata anymore andan she has legitimate Oh, there's ananal N Nijontoosedo Geo G out there Nago finder Hantage seven Oh smoke co kinaooako Mipo Oatem I I not, you know Aimous Absolutely not just in Japan, but globally as well. I have heard voices from players who are just waiting for the entire trilogy to be out before they dive in. So I really hope that those people players can jump in and enter this world with this release It' kind of like on your side of that This has been a long time kind of working on Three projects but kind of one project It' been a lot of your life devoted to this Final Fantasy VI remake. How do you kind of keep sort of creatively inspired or sort of keep Creative fatigue going away. Is that a worry at all? wororking in this same world for so long now so much to know if it's a, Kanar Nagan I Koto stage stff or my a creative N Creative O good Tamina Naaka M Oh no osquo game design So no or machineario game say o you take your sino N know Sanaroneet or Iondar Iano Tor Iano Terasico Ccanoo Toro gameo game Itan notenaro Sano Nistaritoa inspiration Kanagaort goodano there So im only under us so no Chanton Imano or game design toa or entertainment to meach or using T And then I canot you know So absolutely. you know instead of kind of going for a more like static game design like throughout the three titles where each experience that kind of just feels more or less the same, we wanted something much more dynamic and like fitting with the times. So you know there were various like open world games and AAA titles that, you know we saought inspiration from that really influenced you know these games as well. and we're just kind of continually continuously developing with that in mind. in that way, you know, I think each title really like matches that like feel aligned to the game experience that I think players really want today No, I think some of the ways you have fun is by introducing some of these new elements, new wrinkles and even new characters. Chadley, right? I mean everyone loves Chadley. Yeah. So I'm sort of curious. can we what are we going to expect maybe that's new and different from people who are already very familiar with Final Fantasy seven going into part three So k character that think the show of combat and such, like something in game that's ye something with the story and the lore of the world It's story no no alsoi mosquito Y Fit a high window and his on act for Giiana, you also on a sts in Naprica not to me m Yeah, so I think there's many new elements that have been introduced in this title, but something that the fans can really look forward to is high wind and you know what they can experience with that. O Wap no function Koto sto soido. So no my game High wind Nakamo'sas Noap today. Hind. Kruno or Sijuga called Kaataritka So imed eye window con Giuliana or it is Kaninian Yeah, so in that way, it not only serves as a mode of transportation, but it serves as like also like a portal or hub for the players. And as you continue with the exploration, you know different things happen within the interior or you can get like rewards to talk to people with within high wind. So in that way, it keeps it kind of like you know varied and interesting as you keep exploring And Chadley is returning, right? con she must see. I Chada I also no H windo no Nakade, Jibunoo kit no M they only there Oh than you I know S character to there I know Oh Josmas Yes, absolutely. Chadley will be in this title as well. He actually has a base set up in the high wind where he's doing research on meteor. Oh's part of the crew. That's great. N no Hindo noak no wind inado Kist. So of course, the interior of the high wind is an homage to how it looks in the original, but just Hat Chadley's room is going to be super high tech. All right, great I could be kind of simple when it comes like looking from the outside in on a game when I'm like, Ohh, it's an RPG. How much of an RPG is it going to be? And then I see something in the trailer like Is that a job system? That feels very RPG to me? Is that something that that is that the way you guys think about it? Is it like fun to be like, hey, we can put in different RPG elements into a game like this and express that idea in a different way. ship and that sha. So the no requires H gamebato system Yaminoo Kadame A are you ris can Ionar no do you also Komad in comombato system Oh custaa to right challenge this stuff Yeah, absolutely. that is part of it. And on top of that, I think that in thinking about the trilogy, we didn't want to like ever take away from the existing battle system that the players really enjoy and replace it with something like job system. So we wanted to always just build upon and add on that was more of our thinking and work with the existing system to kind of elevate it is it like refreshing to be like I have multiple bites at the apple here to be like, hey, last time we didn't have we either the will or we didn't want to try to do it at that time. Now we can and it still feels very fininal Fantasy seven at the end of the day Oh this I know just part called Icoo based action or Yuogo stock or battero system what's good. S not is there or You know Lincoln no, you so Potaste.on right day Pasoni For my jobo you on the way out to you Gy Iaotod Oak Sarani for Ok the game Hano Katanik Mar combat in Satanato Yeah, it definitely was. You know first kind of going from like the hybrid battle system of the turn base and the action kind of like you know fusing together to something now including the job system, the fit system, with the outfits. I think we've just been continuously kind of expanding and elevating on it. And so this will be something I think fans will really enjoy I sorry, gohead Anoo ito Jobosistanoooacoam Mosquito Mito So Atank guy Tivano Ateri show S Ki taking you I know get r righturn there I don't show gard no there. times Yeah. So you know, with SGF, what we showed there too, like you can see the expansion on like battle strategy and how it informs that. Also with like the Fz Tifa's outfit. I think everyone lo that. So yeah, that's really exciting. Excellent. Yeah. you know, when I see this new Fitz system and these costumes as the Final Fantasy fan kind of wondering, okay, so this a full blown job system like in F Fantasy five is this like The dress fes in Final Fantasy ten two Just how much does this costume change a character's moveset, their abilities, their stats? Is Tipa really becoming a full on black mage when she puts that on? or is it more like Tifa with maybe a bit more magical ability So not it it's the system don on. So no no andanenity for a Comados that So noomos instead Comados no and I't knowana Gamotos nagara kuromadosi Mo caguisteno Oh Aion seos the sh know M commando seos and Mkito. Jionnico So Hagardo. know Tj Param in Kakato there A no, so called h the Tun machine one I do to al us. So it's really not just about changing like just the parameter or just the looks, but you know, there's like a fits system skill tree for example. And so it really like, you know changes the actions, like and the abilities of the characters. And so I think it can really change the player's battle strategy and people can have fun with that. And how many costumes should we expect each character to have? Is this a thing where maybe Each character will have a few or is there going to be like a suite of twenty that everybody's going to have access to Ajenber access security on the continent It's not ne I know you' cheack on the whole for stimula there. gain character Nono costima I don't know there and Mo the party Kakeruo Yonino costima then weo is So each character will have access to four fits and every character is gonna have like access to those. So it's like, you know, it's like each party times four Gotch you. Awesome. And how do you gain access to these? Is it something you unlock through the story? Is it a reward for maybe a side mission or a mini game? Is it a variation of all that suesday So keep him on on schedule.o Al on the schedule. O M b d and on hold there. Yeah parties T J Cdon ite for sanino costume snagoio costume for concept game design. Conoacana Cono Costimoscosa No Nko M crowd thatimo dono costume or Sull cimaga Jior And theosity the G back there. I know Game Kaashino So suckit high window I host start timing with there Postim Ki h was start in this schedule. no timing this S Posta Inbai host us Yeah, so glad you ask. So this we talked about this with battle director Endosan. and you know like it could be that like normally within a game, as you progress through the game, you get like one fits along the way or something like that. But we really wanted that like freedom of choice with the player being able to just freely choose between the fits and which character they want to apply them on So at the point where you acquire the high win, you have access to all of it for the characters like already. Okay. cool. Yeah. I like that. It just kind of opens up right away. you get a lot of Character customization right then no costume itice to know for K. Yeah, and you can kind of expand and go deeper into each fit with the skill tree Final Fantasy seven is in my mind, the biggest remake that gaming's ever seen in terms of the scope and the ideas and how to like reimagine a game Is that something you would ever want to do again So no masqu kinimo. I know I don't name there side the cis toost I proontonasa Mamoi ko Ait catonarito Nama the g No Saanoaringo say mosqueto.ashi Creator, director Kkibaokat J Om He' saying a tricky question. I understand. So you know, I had so much different learnings, you know, working on this remake series over the years, and I'm truly grateful for that. At the same time, if someone were to say like, hey, do this again. I might say, you know, I think this time maybe like a new creator should take the hell ye. like is there like maybe something in your heart to like, hey, when you see these other final fantasy games, it's like Maybe I would do it, but like smaller, more targeted and of course, we're not talking about anything that is happening, but just like what you would want to do. a Mot Yichisa so it tangid more m stop night That's remake or yeah remaster or just whatever. Yeahah, ye. like anything he wants to do. Yes. Yeah, like what he would want like if he were to like look at like Final Fantasy nine or something like that, Final Fantasy ten, would he want like he'd say, okay, no, it could never be like Final Fantasy seven ever again. o oot Challenging kimoimasoi final Fanag no franchisoima Hiotomo Mistoarom finantagiakushimoadoizoag so Bard ous. Yeah, absolutely. Of course it's not thin like, you know, I'd never want to work on another remake again or nothing like that. Of course, if you know, there's so many like amazing titles within the series as well. And if there's like a big, you know wish from the fans for it to turn into a remake, that's an excellent idea, I think. And at the same time, I think that, you know, we want to also look towards continuously expanding on the final fantasy world in the franchise as well. So yeah, that's something that that would be interesting. It does feel like Final Fantasy was always the RPG series that could be anything. Is that something that does still excite you If youies not Nandemoinaona and Henaqu idea this start. Saraniso final final oneo titotco N on theedo boomoagooasatoationooo Motoo hero game Chantoo gameo Sit Oh. ame challenging N A M, findal oneo Naniau goodj game fld take Oh call JRP ara dont not tash game tking a the k in the Rom and have a takeo not muchardous Yeah, so I think that, you know, to some degree, like You know, we think about like the like play and degree of play and like the freedom in the direction is like a kindind of a determining or It's a feature of JRPGs that I believe and for Final Fantasy as well. And this time around, I think with the remake series, we were able to really show the world and players like this the ability to kind of like experience this RPG within this open world you know setting And that was very much recognized and accepted within the world. And so I think fininal Fantasy, another point is like to continuously continue like breaking the boundaries and going outside of the box as well. And that's also like something that is like like a preacure or defining feature of JRPGs that I think you know would be great to continue pushing Or you could just take it easy and makeake a standalone Queen's Blood game next, right Spain's bit a disc other one let's put them doesnute Noa emo by Katch in Sa So no on of final frantageyriation Oh Sikaritoko Sag going focus Mosquoas so you knowariko N useice, you know for tight gain. Oh, take your stch t not to hundred moreigas Yeah. that's a great idea.. You know, the devs are really focused on kind of like, you know, completing the Final Fantasy Rake series with fines at the moment. But you know, once that's done, I think, you know, there's there's the posib possibilities right there. One of my favorite things about Rebirth was just how many many games there were, right? It kind of brought me back to that PlayStation one era of RPGs where there are so many of these side activities. Is that going to be an important part of revelation as well? I think you hit the nail on the head with it. like mini games being such a defining characteristic like of the original FF seven. And you know definitely in Revelation as well, there's an equal amount, if not more mini games than Rebirth Just kind of my one last question here You know, that final sef off boss fight of Bom fantas seven is such this kind of Hallmark moment for gaming. M called IO skk foro thereitana you'egr. Yes, absolutely. I think you know, I think like that's certainly a hallmark moment in the Separ battle. And I think that, you know, in portraying this iconic like antagonist, right, we really had to like kind of rack our brains about like how can we like best represent them him in this third title? And I think that you know myself included, a lot of the team members, you know played the game as real fans, like the original, and that's how we kind of like got into this title. And so we all like feel a kind of closeness or have kind of a deep like understanding or you know feeling of like what who Separok is and you know, his character. and we all like you know had these ideas and thoughts of it just being so close to us. And in that way, I think we were able you create the Sppera for this last title that's very exciting that we put our love and passion towards. So we hope that in this title, players can see a new side of Sppera that they can appreciate. As long as he still destroys the soR system, it's all good. The wider Chicago land. Abby, how you doing? I'm doing well. Thank you so much for asking. How are you? Did you end up learning Spanish from animal Crossing U C, unpecuno. Oh So yes C. I mean C. No, I need to go back to it is the real answer. I've moved on to other handhelds. Right yeah, you're and you're not teaching you Spanish. Well, actually I plan to play some games in Spanish if you can believe it, but I did bring my three DS to the show floor tonight And I got street passage. Yeah in twenty twenty six. That's so exciting to me actually. My nine year old just got in to three DS. She lik people watching some YouTube video. She was sting on my switch two to play Tomadacci life, even though you can play that on a swwitch one And then They willon I saw a YouTube video of like I don't know what do you it's like a switch. I'm like, It's called a like a three D yes, like a hand house, like Yeahah, whver whatever that is. Just give it to me. Like do you have one of those? I'm like, u in a box somewhere. Let me go find one I found it Most of my power cords are frayed, but I had one like multip purpose one USB. I could charge it. It turns on And then she turns to me as we turn it on And she goes, you know people in Nintendo, right? I was like, Yeahah, like, Could you call them and ask If they would put Tomodachi life on the three DS, I was like Oh, you know what, kiddo? I I'll look into that. I'll see if I can make that h happenf. I'll make a couple of phes. Right, but then I looked on eBay prices for Tomodachi It's like two hundred dollars. I mean, what is the website three Ds. hacks, Sean. Yeah. just go like I know Lgically Oh three DS is everybody. So I thought that was gonna be my next step. But then I thought to myself, I Googled. Tomadacci life Patrick Klubk And I hadd written several articles for Giant Bomb Lbody died Tombodyachi around the time that They were being accused of being homophobic or not They put in our favor, but they put out a lengthy statement. They were like they did. We are homophobic. stment and they to fo with the good statement. They basically said like we cannot patch the Japanese homophobia, but we will work on that in the next game which did not which did not come for obviously many, many years And so I thought to myself Well maybe Patrick covering the Non of homophobia bought Homodach.. And that looked up a It's not as easy so the e shop is is or not it was't called these. Was it called the shop So it's shutd down. It's not easy to find the spot to red download your previous games. It's like buried under like three layers of settings I went down there and found it the most recent game I' purchased. Satach you. It w. Wake up the next morning, show m. she's like, I can't believe Nintendo did that for you. I was like, that's what I want you to believe. That's what I want you to believe children that work. mr. Bowser himself phoned in a favor. It was his last act before he left. Yes. Yes. so she's got that charging In her loft bed right next to her alarm clock as she does done it out your life under her three DS. that battery last for like fifteen minutes? It's terrible. Yeah. It's like why is it turning red immediately? Yeah You got to get in there with a screwdriver, replace that thing. I think I think Well she picked the I gave her a spread. She had I had the original three DS, like the blue one DS light And then my prized possession which is the Major's mas PSXL Which once it was displayed, my thought was That's better than you. You are not owed that three D But she's like, that screen is very big. And she was right. So I said, as long as it stays in the house and you don't take it out. But even that one, I need to replace the battery at some point because this's dying almost immediately. This is like reverse of my situation where I had that three D S out and I just handed it to her. I'm like, I don't mess around. And she found Tobadaci life years ago, when she was like seven and now she's nine So the new Tomoninaci life coming out has been her entire life. for weeks now and it's actually awesome to see She like showed me, Ohh, here's the pro tools for creating stuff. Awesome And I'm like, yeah, I'm like, oh wow, this is kind of you're learning how to make art in this game now and I'm like very impressed by it. So yeah, T about your life is fantastic Do you like coming out your life? Yes mean I've heard of it. Yeah. It definitely doesn't make content around it or anything. Noes. But I love the new one. Obviously, I love the original Have you been spending time with a new one Yes I haven't gotten into the drawing parts and I feel like I'm like kind of resistant the drawing parts, but that's like what the game is. Yeah. So I like need to get on board with like, okay, I need to like commit to drawing things. I don't play it handheld though. so I don't want to use my controler. It's like kind of a pain in the ass in that way and it's just enough friction that I'm like not that into it. I mean, I'm very into it, but I'm not into the drawing parts. So I've made a lot of mes. We have a good time. When the mees I want to get together like in a relationship don't, it's like genuinely upsetting for me They they make it simple. they already have like a rectangular cube that just looks like a cigarette box. Yeah all you do cigaretes. And I've written cigaretes on it and they eat them and none of them like it. Cigarettes are back. thing. Yeah, they're back. Cigarettes are back in such a big way. everyveryone's smoking. Can we have one now? Anybody got a Yeah you can smoke in here. Don't look at that sign, but everything else I think that sign's daring. I think that sign You sign you're not cool. part onndo nihilism. Yeah looks like it that sign of cigarette How you doing, Alex Fine, I just got divorced in Tomadaci life. Oh dn you do that Yeah that Yeah about year. Okay, first of all I'm not married..'. No, my partner plays it all the time, the new one. and like her island is just us and our cats as people. Oh because that's sure legit mine. likeike I should make other people. it's just my immediate family because I don't want to deal with any totally. I mean the shack can be there, but otherwise, you know, of course fine. I guess At some point my meee went to her and was like, Hey, I want to break up with Sam, my partner. And she was like, do you want to do that? And I was like, no, I don't want to get to She asked me. And I was like, okay, no, I don't want to do that. She hit the wrong button Oh no. Yeah, I was got It's a. Now she has a lawyer. the door. Oh, it's a live simulation. Just a little what if? Yeah, what What if you stopp buying blue rays, Alex? Impossible. Oh what's the last blue ray you got God, what was the last one I got? U Despite my better judgment, I bought that Fi Club four K because I needed to see what David Fincher had been. How bad is it? It's not that bad. It's not what need to. This is like an online thing where you If you're zooming in on dails you're gonna know they like There's certain things he changed and I don't like it. I don't like the mucking around, but it's not seven. They didn't like rub all the grime off it. What does this name hate f fiscal media There's many want to sh films. We got the classic on the tarmac and then got like a three hour delay on the tarmac to where I started podcasting on Instagram live from Instagram live with a microphone from the seat. And when the pilot came out to tell us to talk down the plane He saw me doing it because I was holding the microphone up to the speaker again. And he came over specifically, he's like, ' is it was all the rage back of the day. S you know, film pilots and make them look like idiots. He was learning the trade and that's fine, you know, And once you've got to get upstairs, like the skill level goes up. So he got there eventually. These photos are gonna be taken. Yeah. My wife's like Like you know, on the phone with her nurse, it's like, you can't come in yet, wait some hours. And she's like, what are you doing? And I'm like, I'm getting rid of the pedophile. L I'm not taking the photos with this. She's like do look better that way. I was like, it's been like three years to I' trying this. This is the moment fy, you great Have you ever tried to grow the full beard? I in a full beard. I just like let it go. No, no, like maybe during COVID, I let it go. U, But yeah, I've had this for veryy long time. I'm not going Do anything else, I think. Yeah I haven't been clean shaven since my wedding day In twenty ten. whooa, okay. Yeah. I've also just kind of settling and it looks like it looks like it looks like and I'm just like, yeah, that's what I'm doing. I don't care. I just gott to deal with thisactly I'm making the best of a bad situation like It is like life. you know about your own face. I' not what happ Je though. We get the name Jeff. We have to just settle for that c it's Its just a sound. I hate my name so much. Yeah. Really? Yeah. I hate the name.. Jeffrey is my ph room. Yeah. like that No, no. He's a gen good boy good boy No really. I don't know I know That was my thought. It was like I wish you had He hate his name to we didn't It was nice to see him at the meeting. I don't Yeah. We don't we don't cross paths. Yeah.ike I don't wish I had a different name, but like I just recognize that Jeff's a punchline. when you're mad at someone if you yell Jeff, it's just funny to say. Yeah there's something Yeah, there's something there is something about it. I think maybe that's why. I just think it's it's not like it's not interesting. You know what I mean? It would be weird to me likeike a three year old named Jeff. Oh, there's no more Jeff. Yeah. it is crazy They're being a baby Jeff, I gotta say. A baby Jeff. Jeff fucked up. Yeah, that's crazy. I mean calling Jeffrey for a while, right Iess then when you transition When he becomes a man it's b Je You look like Jeff this. I don't like how that sound Sirly E name is a baby Bring them up. Her baby Gary's out there. There's a baby Bob. You know, like they there's like all the old man, old lady names where Not anyown to me. They don't exist anymore. But Bob, you get away with Bobby. Yeah and Robert. Yeah. Gary, though youre right. I don't know. I don't know I an imagineer G baby Bob. As G know Doesn't work I don't like it. No, I don't either. You like your name, Alex? God no I'm Alex twice, so I'm not doing this again by now. No, no. We you about this before. Yeah we're not gonna to do there. I rememember the last time I had to explain this to you So I'll be watching that on. wing to Jordan Okay, Hi,'a Jordan. I always bring this up because I have on three separate podcasts how to explain my little nameames s. Make it for. All right. Listen. If I've heard the story, I forgot. All right, it's new then twice. I'm Alexis Alexander Navarro. Yeah. She did remember. All right.. Jordan, what's like What's a weird Scottish name? L Come on Irish names really throw me off and I know you guys aren't the same thing, but yeah, come on, yar. According to A driver. We are dri. Eiley Eiley is a Scottish name. Like Hay It's pronounced that way but it' spelled E I L I D H. or like it's like Neve stuff like that is like Oh you pronounce it Nif and stuff like that. I'm not here for this anti Scottish racism. If you' like to do Irish stuff, I'm all for that hell yeah E Chalal English stuff. Let's get Oh ye No, abolutely have fun. What Lucy James.. I got a newsletter Lucy James pks like and is from the same place as Jem Ryan, so they're interchangeable in my head. U lookingoo for game. I'm friends with Jeff Keey. and here's a new Wolverine trailer. You know you have my profession How do you feel about America A Bother, I've got a visa and Se Fo. Get land of liberty. G liberty Immigration tube is incredibly short this year, so shout out to the good people LAX for that ead of usual incompetence, but yeah, America's fine. I'm from the UK, Mate the UK is just like diet America. Right. Yeah. It' Diet America with the kind of We import all the right wing stuff like six months later. It's like when we used to get the games six months later and now it's just like horrible politics. I would like to line the border between Scotland and England with nuclear weapons and shoot us up towards like Norway and shit like that. So that's the plan. So vote in the next Scottish election When you come here like are there like American things you want to do?ike is there not anymore. L you come here so many times. it's just as of the furniture, especially because everything's in LA. mayaybe if it was in like weird states I'd be like, Ohh, let's go and see this. you people out What's a weird st. ye,. Idaho something like Yeah Thatrack Anone in this room been to Idaho.ve I drove Yeah. The places that would have like, oh, here's the world's biggest rubber bandball like all' a sh. I would maybe do a do a press trip, road trip where it starts in LA and goes all the way through all the weird holes that are in the middle of America and then ends in New York, a proper town You should go to the corn palace. Oh yeah in South Dakota. It's a palace of corn where they have all these murals made out of corn in like C community college gym It's incredible. They've been doing it since like the fifties. Really? Yeah. I went toouth South Dakota iss where Mount Rushmore is, right? I believe so. It's where the Bad llands are too. Yeah I didn't see any corn palaces. Well, you missed out because it was incredible. I love the corn palace. Yeah real bad All right, so I talked to her about not being a media. The rest of us are independent games media. How you guys feeling about it right now? Yeah, right. Okay, here's the thing I've noticed and feel free to I think I'm way off here. Let me know The thing I've noticed the most as my first SGF and being around here Everybody covering the show is over thirty Like there is no young people for the most part like running around this thing. G got a couple of kids out there. you Yeah, you got you got you blue Thunder out there. You know Chary. He's twenty four. I watch you game. I see the people I follow on Instagram out there. I The only people I'm taking photos with are like you shit mean they're not out there at all. I'm just saying it like it's not the E three thing where seventeen year olds are sneaking in right for some ban site or something like that's right. I mean Jeff Keey won't allow that. No runs a tight ship as we all know But like it just feels like It's not that we're all old here. It's just that it feels like there isn't really much of a young developing games media crew right now out there covering shows like this. It's kind of like an all inclusive for like, you know, elder millennials. Yeah It's going run five PM Sufflebardalls , what is happening with that Madella on there? Can I have that? Is that cold? Thats chill so. You got a meal J. Oh my God, you get a meal ticket Jesusrult J just on that there is like there are some young people coming through, but they are with legacy outlets. Like my friend Alex is young, but she's doing stuff with a big legacy outlet. L I'm fty and I feel young compared to like because all the people that are still doing this are the people I was watching when I was coming up every single person on this carage. So I understand that, but also The young people that are coming here aren't doing legacy media shit. They're doing TikTok, right what they should do because and Mine I work, the old website game. it's like, what are you going to do? If you're a young person going up for a newswriter job any website, it's like, oh, here's these ex polygon people with fifteen years of experience. Of course you're not going to get it. So is broken. there is no there's no NXT of games media these days. It you have to go to the big time immediately. Like that's the thing that's why I bring it up is because it just made me sort of in this weird reflective place of like Are we developing young voices in games media anymore? I'm not at an outlet and I haven't been for some time. You know, Next llander is on the thing. It's just three guys that have been doing this forever But like I know there are younger people out there covering games, but the economy of it sucks ass Like sending people to a show like this is expensive and most outlets aren't going to do it. And see I think that's a big part of it where I do see young people come up to me and o, I've been watching you forever and it breaks my heart and I'm old of shit. But it is the fact that okay, cool. But then it's the other thing of like We look around and we see our friends that we've known forever and but it's not like it used to be where it's not eight three where it's all of IGM like Brian Well, IG iss a bad example because they have their own thing Brian out there or whatever. the IGM person I see at SGF, the game spot person I see at SGF. It's not like it's an entire team like in the old days where the entire company hollows out of the office travels down and does it So I wonder how much of that Because we're the same way I don't send all kind of funny here because I mean kind of works for you then like the younger TikTokers, they are like Twitch or Twitch stars, they stay at home and cover it because it's way more financially reasonable to do that. Yeah. Because like you don't need a million people on the ground for this. It's we're not doing the game spot thing where we're putting all the editors in a glass dome in the middle of the floor mean was show though. That's the thing where it's like, again, I love SGF. I think I s this every time I'm here. I love SGF. It's an amazing show. I really but it's Aouble A in the games. which don't move the needle. the amount of demos I've been today where I'm like, H How am I going to do fucking back flips over SEO to make a headline out of this someomebody click on it because it' nobody's going to care about what SEO's dead, man. It's. But I mean in terms of making it be something that general populace outside of us wants to do. Whereas tomorrow the reason I send Bessing homeome Ride is like I want as many people in the desk someworrow as possible because Xbox reactions are gonna kill everything we do next week. that'll be game cast pay previews. L that's just not the same thing. Yeah There's a direct next week too so you can do that. there yeah. I heard about that. Yeah.day morningdayuesday It's just Tuesday right, Jordan I'm gonna to play another don't care. Yeah. I say Yeah, exactly. I'll think some other folks do it, Yeah You're on that one. Thanks, man Yeah, All right. we we have to start wrapping up here real soon, but it's awesome to see you guys all together. I do think there's reasons for us to keep coming out to SGF. I don't know like Younger people coming out here. it is worth it to like see people in person and connect. That is actually still a really big part of this industry, right? Yeah one hundred percent. Yeah. So hopefully I look hopefully, whatever. SGF seems like it's doing all right. We'll probably get luck. Yeah Deff Keey's out there Lording over everything. You watching his domain. I saw him today. I had to take a photo of him with some fans. Yeah that fun. whichich was great because as soon as I got handed the phone. you had a t Oh a good.al. That's a good st. I was just walking by and two dudes were like accosting Keeley and some other guy that he was with. I didn't see who it was And they wass like, hey, can you take a photo of us? And I was like, how, yeah Yeah, shir. The best part was Keeley did not know it was me doing this. He's looking at his phone because that's what Keeley does. He's always looking at his phone. So as soon as he looks up, the photo, he sees it's me taking it and I get this little like And that's it. That's the react. I can't believe you didn't lead with that story. That's awesome. fantastic. All right. I gota say something for the end. Y. pererfect. All right, well we gota wrap up. We got one more to go Thank you, everybody for watching this. Thank you for watching all night. We'll be right back after this All right. I just wishlisted Aliens fire teeam elite two on steam just like you should because it's jy at night everybody. It's certainly a place I'm Mike Minaudi, and I'm glad that you talked about me in that last segment, even though I wasn't here. Howd How'd you know? We talked about Muron? Yeah. That gu I brought him up. I don't even remember what I said. That's about how I think movies are made.. And you all said mean things about Sonic and like that hurt, but Mike Miller know who Mike Menoti is?. Oh, absolutely. Miller. Greg Miller was nice to me when I was a nobody. I always appreciate it. Yeah. very nice. Yeah. and he really liked it movies are made. S of Patrick. G ahead Jen Janitoa. We work here press the buns, I'm not pressing them right now. I'm tired. Dan, not right now Thank you. pajanza What what's up? I'm Chuck Zimmmerhld and I'm your daddy. That's not I didn't like this specifically asked you like say that., sorry. You didn'tromped right. But I looked right at the camera when I said it which felt good. Hey, can I say something please U somebody I made my last name Zimmer Feld on the screen for the very first segment. I'm not saying who it was, but it rhymes with Man. D, it was well put dance Think about the Rye but you Zim and the H are so close to the Yeah right there. Yeah. They' sound the same. It's guys asked me to do five things before the show is going up or anything. So excuse me for one letter off. I was telling backack Lar, I didn't want to be Zimmer Feld because it feels like a Jewish stolen valor. Yeah, you sound like a lawyer, but. Yeah' conversation saw I saw a bus like steal the vllor. Sorry. I saw a bus today with an injury lawyer and his his whole thing was just Los Angeles. Oh, that's good. AW Somebody's had to have done that, right? I guess not. Yeah Los Angeles first forever. Convert, Cvert. Did you say convert man, what about Misney, Mike Bisney. Yeah, Yeah, Mizney is famous in Ohio. He was like an injury lawyer. and he said the billboards and he made a weird face like though you knew he was serious and threatening. They would say like, you know, first I was like Disney Lobbses call me the phone number Then it was like just the phone number and he became such a local meme that the billboards are just a close up on his eyes now. Yes. and we all get the mess. We't know exactly who it is and it actually rules They all have that though. like every city Yes everyone's like they different flavors though. Yes. Ours in Minnesota is. Well, there's the one guy who looks exactly like me If you look up Nicolette Law And the other gu guys' this guy Chris Lindall. and his thing is he's on a billboard and he goes like that's every single billboard Crucify him on Blue sky also. Okay, good. up Were you intending to use this last segment just to advertise for law offices across the country? Yeah no we sold thator on. Yeah that's that's where the money's made. How are you guys doing over there? Sean and Will B! ! You're not on the couch. St I' back youre old go That's what's happen me. Let's cl. Let's Sean. McDowell. And you guys do not pay me enough to audio bounce Greg M. Yeah, you're doing a lot of work over there we be earnest for a second, likeike Sean is writing D ex wait wait jobang Jn actually explain the process of what it's like to do the audio. Yeah, Chad, I'm doing everything manually this year. so I have a bunch of audio processing going on. I have very aggressive gates on to cancel out the noise in OBS, I have noise suppression and then I am manually muting everybody and downing their audio as they're talking over each other as I need to raise and lower them. F fact, Greg Miller was screaming so loudly that the computer thoughtought that he was noise and suppressed him. That's why you couldn't hear him during that segment. Computer was like, no way this is a human no. That is just noise. Anyways, thanks everybody Will, how you doing? You don't have to say a lot, You're tired. I'm doing great and I'm tired. Every night, Will has slept on a different thing. Yeah. Oh yeah. Oh, yeah, that's why you're the con. It's true. Well, first there was a phouton and that phouton was made of just wood. And then I found an air mattress in the nursing home And so I brought that over to our place and that air mattress stayed inflated for you slept in Jeff Baclar's bed before he got here and then you made the bed as if you had not done that. Well, I still told him. Well Yes clear. It did appear like this was There was an attempt to keep it from me. It didn't feel like Andmit It's not a It's my story to tell here. It's not a big deal. We knew Will was gonna tell you. He's an upstanding guy. Of course. What murder? Well murder. Posit something. Yeah Like look, I've just gotten to know Will a lot over the last year. Okay. I don't think it's something we can figure out right now Do think that like there's a lot of like ooh dinner is Mike weirder thinkink give it enough time Will might be a real contender. have no idea what you're talking about. Oh actually I think he's got Yeah wait you lay case. Yeah. I mean, that's the thing is I'm saying over a long enough timeline, I'm not willing to say it like way it Give me one example Like I don't have a horse in this race and it's just such an insane takeake. I don't get it Yeah, let's hear it I ex Iad everybody. Okay No No That's not a. He's. He's here repeat it. The guy' saying the worst thing. He's like, oh, there's so much evidence. There's also no worst thing. The guy the gus says the guy who's like, oh, a cool AI hat. I can't believe it's an AI hat. No explain that that situation. already dead. Okay. Okaykay, okay. deades. I didn't talk about your credit card points yet on anything I not really credit card points. He loves credit card points so much that after dinner instead of just letting us like expense her take her the check normal I like a normal business crecter where's like, wa, guys, can I pay for dinner and then? Bill you for it later so I can get my No no, no, that's exactly. No it is, but I this works. God your voice is so insane. go Y voice is like little knives. Okay. This is situation I find myself in. You go out to dinner with like eight friends and what are you gonna do? cause trouble for the waiter or waitress and be like, we're gonna split this seven ways. That wasn't a concern. I can preventround work.ind the ground? No, we unpack this already. Your friends just can't easer B and Bianca always say like, hey, does anybody else want the credit card points? Otherwise We will pay for the whole thing and you can Vinmo us later. And when I I sure go for it. And what I've revealed is that your friends just know that you're the points guy at this point and they're like, whatever, let the Rekords do their fuc M everyone's lives easier. Sure. includluding the waiter or waitress and the and the dozens of dollars you've equired kid my B' about my credit card ever loveo. what do you have to say? We're not a random group of friends. We are on a business trip. Right. But if it's a moile there with a business partner That' a wrinkle I didn't think about. I don't want to talk about this anymore. I agree, J.red. I back, can you for that? Do we bottle of those cupp? Can we explain the nursing home comment? So Yeah, we have two Airbnb's because there's a lot of us and they're pretty close When we got here, it was immediately just sort of became The younger people of like Jan and younger are in one, which is who? whichich is Ch. So it's Will Seaan. And then I'm going to say Mike and older Mike is the youngest from the old being. Yeah I mean, this does feel like the last few months of even pretending to be young in my life because I am turning forty. Yeah. you're not young. We're not l I hope you're all prepared for that by the way. What that going to look like? Oh I was just thinking in there like what am I gonna do on like the site for that day I will just make it all Are we ready for your birthday? All right. And as y'all know, I like to be fucking cheesy and a little bit saccharine as Abby put in the last segment And I have a toast I would like to give And this toast is to everyone in this room And I think it's funny that all the people I care about in particular are in this room. that goes for you as well. A Banana. I you talking say banana. Banana. I made him promise me he would really stay to the bed and never speak. I'm sorry. He said drectly prompted.' from my favorite poet. all right? No No, I said. Nicky's being very responsible. for Jason the corner You know what's fucking cool though? I've been out there the whole night and everything and I'm talking to people that like I was I met in the green room or quote unquote in twenty eleven giant Bomb E three Green room September years ago that are still here. And it's like I just it's a big mix of people we met a year ago or have been around since the beginning of Giant Bomb before any of us. Yeah. It's awesome. I was like we were talking Alex last segment. he's like, I haven't seen a lot kids and it's, you know what, though,' There are some kids out there mixed in with all the elder millennials. likeike we are there's a lot of us still here And the reason for that is because it's easier for us if you have some recognition, obviously. But we're doing a little bit of work to kind of make sure that these people can intermingle and meet each other And it's awesome to see It really is. Can I tell you One thing I learned here the perhaps elder millennial folks out there fan of our myth series. You back. fking go. It turns out, Mike's the target aud. has one conversation with Phil Salvador. It's come up with lot of people lovely human do. Oh don. P g me a nice pzz. all sorts of goods. You you do such an amazing job. Thanks, man. It's like it's always so hard like not to be like, I don't know, weirdly nostalgic about the kindind of lame awful podcast we were doing like ten years ago. and now we're here like talking to like the director of the next Final Fantasy game. I don't know That's like w coming on that panel that was likeike he also co piloting that segment. Yeah great job. Ian. Great job. I like Final Fantasy. It was very funny to'd be like they're like, Hey can he come be on the couch? It's like Does you know what the show is? Like Do you know what this is all is all about? I got a text from him relayed that he had a lovely time. Oh good. I had a lovely time. They were great guests. It's like a whimsical sweet. Yes comomes through in the games and yeah, that was a great conversation. and I'm really glad we could make it happen. But yeah, we confirm that Chadley's coming back. Yes. I did that for you, Chen. Yes. Thank you so much. I made sure A actuallyually when I said I was gonna do it on Blue Sky, people like, you got to ask about Chadley. Yeah. We can confirm that it was Ramy Vinon. He's been on the couch. It's all cool. Ramy's awesome. And they had a eleven year old kid, Bve the name was Zachary and I signed a S andES copy of Space Ace out there. And he told me My eleven year old really loves watching you play Space Ace. Oh, that's upsetting. you know, So I signed it. But then I said like, you know what? hey ow this up, pull your phone up, hit record and I'm calling my shot here I looked at the camera and I said, Hey, Zachary The homeome runun shot for you, you know, that like I said, I am gonna beat Space Ace and when I do, it's for you, Zacharyon. And this was my idea. I was like, I'm doing it for Zachary. I'm gonna beat Space Ace for him Man, mayaybe the youngest I feel the monorid the goosebumps Yeah. Maybe the youngest person in the world that knows about Super Nintendo sppace A You gota fuck though. Yeah, We have to take that responsibility into consideration. This was an eleven year old who cared about the Super Nintendo and it was relevant. I didn't know about No Yeah who would know about that game. Yeah. What's in this Yeah mint. mostly mint. Okay so yeah, we're it's almost a chocolatey thing there Yeah, you know you're right That's our. Chocolate. very L like cow mint. Yeah, you're correct. It's like Now that like I'm over the pain and how much su, I kind of like it. I know like it actually is settling in my stomach in a way that feels real nice. The purpose of a dish is steep but settle your stomach after you've been eating garbage like pizza and drinking and like it's it's nice. I was afraid to say this earlier There's a thing in EpCot U that is like this. It's called Beverly.. It's at the Coca Cola pl placeays and because like it's a beverage or I don't know. it's you go to this Coca Cola sponsored thing in EpCOot and they have Sodas from the around the world and the Italy one is Beverly and it's an Afrod that's the shitty one. Aphrodisiac. No was not was say Afrodit and I don't know if that was correct. It was Afro American. It's similar. It's very bitter and weird. It just wasn't alcoholic like this was apparently It's wild that you somehow took Fet Bronanca and took it to Disney. like I want you to know that it immediately went to Dney to me and I held back for a little bit and I just couldn't do it any. I get I have to hold back. You don't. feel like six degrees of Kevin Bacon thing with Mike and Disney. I mean we've done something similar where it's like ' say something. how long does it take you guys to go wrestling Chris Jericho Chris Jericho is WWSR former WCW wrestR WCW film Nitro in front of DisneyM Jam stududios. I could have done that one. That was too easy. That's yeah. Yeah. twwistlers Twizzlers is, that one I'm like there's a candy and there's a candy shop in. Oh no candies be candies. That's interesting. Yeah, that's lame, I suppose. Okay Twlers wrestling. That's okay. Twizzlers is a candy. And when Disney worldld celebrates its twenty fifth anniversary, they replicated many candies on under the castle like generic lifesavers. And I think nah, maybe not Twizzlers I don't know, Dan, you got me. I'm a sham! I know! D it it. I don't deserve it. Wh me one Done Oh wait, Seawn and Will, did you guys get a shot? I know I know you haven't spoken up, there's not. There's not much left. Will wants one. I know you haven't spoken up to ask for one. Do you guys want one All right, guys. pass me after your pour.. Could you pour them What are you want me to do? Back? Well, he's gonna hand it to you. here, here, here, here, take this. There's none. I'm worried about Will personally. there's notl. It' split,'s split.. I want to say like Talking all these people on the couch, it's been great, it's awesome. but I do appreciate it when to you guys ' it's so easy to talk to you guys. This is so nice. sure. We do that a lot. We do We do it a lot it wow. Oh pouring it directly into his mouth. That baby bir style. That was beautiful. Oh dumbass, use a comeong. aong Why Seaan's soreasonable. I know She' holding this cup for you's a cool transformer. Rong with Sean Ds cu Seaan's a little bit of an old man. I really love it I u I wish I could talk about things I played at playdays I know. but the embargo scare me. I know like was going on with The only game that anyone talked about all day was control R resident, because it's the one with I playing like playing a game and the N doing a podcast like, Ohh, I can talk about that on july twenty sixth. Right. Who's gonna like doing? It was never like that. So we've all figured out what it is They're going to do this same thing in the UK and Europe in Asia Over the next couple of weeks. That that's so stupid like because like E three back in the day. I know. you would write or you would go to a demo and you would see the the theater demo or play the game and then in between that and your next appointment, you would write up the preview posted there like And like this they're not thinking about the fact that like there's like monitary like people are thinking I'm here. I gott to justify why I'm here. I got to write something I don't have to justify shit in July. Right. Like that's crazy. No one's saying about SGF in July. No way. Yeahah, that's crazy. It's weird. It's Yeah, I don't know. It's a strange dynam. Like I was actually coming here just to go to playdays. I don't know if I could justify that. Yeah. You know, it's really weird. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I mean, the one thing I think I'd say outside of emmbargo is everyone should just wish list aliens, fire team. I mean that is clear second would previous one And it was pretty good It was only three people on a team. I I' see much great news for you You could do four players in aliens fighting the way's gonna pop. He's gonna pop. one to pop two, three, four! I should wa I should the four horsemen everybody. All. back moren Anders say this. I guess he has be Arn Anderson. Yeah. the workforse. That's five. You did five.ike we were kind of lazy with the thumb when they did. Yeah. I kind of think I say something about them though They just told us to do like our thing with the sponsorship. Yeah That's like fucking rule. They could have like be giant bomb stupid. We're like, are you sure? Yeah Yeah. arent was can Dan fuck with Joh. That was like a big request. Like can we please do something mean to just a really good reason Okay wisheless escape. like they were like. That's how they spend their money. I fucking love it. Yeah. Immediately after that segment with Drake Bailey comes to me and she says, I think you guys just waterboarded t. I by the literal definition, pretty close. It's close. It's close. That guy whines though. like ex know I think he's a good spa. I like him. I like know, I might need that connection into twenty You're right here, whoo's in charge out there? Yeah I know on I'm set. Oh Oh No Sean's afraid of the audio. Sean't unless you want to S.y Okayere's happening? We can cut after this anyway. All Yes ses. Wait Will is it on the wide? I asking questions. Rush this guy. Will get his ass. Fucking sucks, man. Yeah. No, you have to be. You have to get in that ass. o Do you know what is this on Yeah ye. Hello. Hey Hey I'm gonna to ask you some questions legitimately in act No I heard you hate Giantbama, don't want to be on contore. No. Yeah, no, not never. I in a big fight. a biging lesson. I hate every single one of you. Exere's my legitimate real question. And if this has been already talked about and ask stop me Literally, what does it feel like that you've done this by yourselves for the first time? The first thing that comes in my mind People should wishlist Noorry. For real. No, like and I mean this so seriously, right? Like you have been doing this in some iteration for the last X number of years for you to well you three specifically, right? Like for the last I'm thirty. so for the last like twenty five years it feels you've been building' building this shit And now it's yours Does it feel like you have all of these people outside? Do have all these people at SGF Thinking about talking about the things that you are creating, what does it feel like? It was we were just talking because you're talking about, you know somebody worked on Titanfall two was like, oh, my kid watches Bl Club. I'm like You made something actually good. right? You consume art conent. We just we just goof off online and like I do love that. It is an amazing feeling. Yes. and it's an amazing feeling to like have everyone out there I do think it's important to create a space where people can come here and have I always say like a ground to retreat to this idea of like we push ourselves out in the world and we're trying to like exist under all kinds of clouds that are dark and scary And whether that's just like trying to be on Twitter, which is awful now and all these other platforms that are terrible And people are like, where can I go to just like I still like being online and hanging out with people? Where can we go to do that? Well, we try to do that online and then to see that manifest in person out there with all these awesome people that I deeply respect It feels nice. I love this team. I love those people.'s it's excellent. Thank you, Nkki. And for the three of you Dan Chan Bacalar You've seen this website in one hundred and one iterations owned by everyone in their mom, including Stehven Colbert Like what is it like now holding the keys to the thing. and being like, Yeah no, this ship is ours How are we going to steward it into the future? I think it was very important a long time ago or a place like Giant Bomb to exist When I started the game informer like two thousand nine. It was like there was a lot of places you could work. There was a lot of traditional like games media outlets and everything. but like giant Bomb felt special back then and authentic and genuine and irreverent and all this. And I thought it was very important twenty years ago, or almost twenty years ago And now where you see 're. Name names or anything of like these giant companies calling buying certain I can say it fuck fandom. Oh then I guess I can say like balnet. Bnet sure ye Hey, you get a lotet giant companies buying games media outlets that don't know what the fuck they're buying and they're laying people off or they're telling people like, oh, you need to do this specific thing. an insidious Template Yeah instead of letting people just do their own thing that they're good at, you know I think it was important in two thousand eight, two thousand nine for a Giant Bomb to be doing what it's doing. I think nowadays, it's even more important as like There's just less and less in that landscape Yeah. and everything's getting bought up and made Turn to shit and everything The fact that we get to do what we want to do And no one's telling us how to do it Um It feels unprecedented. Yeah. And like like To speak to like the sponsor, like they show up because we have that going on. Yeah, yeah. rightight No they show up because we are like dick and stuff like that. and it's like pay for this and like get everyone in that room together and there's going to be like There's going to be a million things that happen because they' cool people hanging out there together And like people like they're just showing up because we are doing our thing And keeping that going is, I think kind of special. And I think the fact that the audience is like been okay with that and been like, hey, things are changing on that side of things. Like I have a deep respect for the audience's ability to evolve along with us. Like that's really awesome to see. And we don't have to emulate what anyone did in thousand eight, twenty twelve, twenty sixteen, anything. It's like, All right, what do we want to do in twenty twenty six? Yeah no, what what does Giant Bumb look like in twenty twenty six and we get to decide that. Yeah. I think the coolest thing having been in and now out is like Y'all do have a vision for the website, right? Like you have a vision for the stuff that you are making and the things that you want to make and You have turned the website eith That was good. That I also say Dan, that cracked like seven times in a way that I've never heard of Cana before. Thank you. That's a Midwest grand there. But it's like Yeah, no, y'all y'all know what the fuck you want. Y'all are tapped into the audience. You have an understanding about the things that do and do not work. That's right. And we are pivoting to only mists. all m is Aat. Yeah. Yeah. it's legitimately like really coolick We were really pretty good. That's it is. I mean like I mean it Thank here. It's it's legitimately cool to see. R. I I mean some but like it's not just us' the fact that we do have All these cool friends like Niki and all these people who show up and support us. And even when it's like, you know, like like sometimes like, oh God, we have we haven't been able to do something with Niicki for a while. And then when we do and you are still so excited and's so game to be a part of it, it means the world to us. Yeah It makes me feel really good. Yeah. And for the new folks The three of you, I know 've been following the website for so long What is it now like to have your hand literally on the ball build this thing that at one point was meaningful to you in a completely different way. How are you feeling about the response? I think I guess about the responsibility of it. Chuck, Chuck immediately like about the responsibility of that and like In practice, like what does it feel like to be doing it day to day? U It's terrifying. But it's fun. It's like, I mean when I came on Baclar was like, Hey, listen Like we're just trying to like try this stuff out. So like Do whatever you want And it's nice to like get into a room with these guys and be like, hey, we're not doing the social thing.ike, we'll clip stuff We have an incredible audience that clips the So I don't want to just clip stuff But we have the opportunity to be like, hey, let's do stuff That doesn't make it to the site that we can do like we can do weird candy reviews. We can do Jur eatating Asian market foods We can have Rub doing his his game Mess minute and all that sort of stuff and show off the weird stuff he buys. It's a lot of fun and it's a cool thing to do and it's just like a way to expand ourselves out further and it's weird that I can somewhat order these guys around and be like, Hey, where what the fuck is my footage? Do you mind clipping that? Re? I'll clip that. I actually will cut that how always cut that. So you have to clip it and cut it. I'll both figure that actually Jon Chuck You You to be by the board talk. Did you love me as a new person? Nicky, I've been here three years, You know thatother That's not that long. Yeah, especially with these old pucks over here, huh? Th these fuckers are watched. to. Oh, I know. I wait wait Well I am cooklar. Elier today, I was trying to Google something. Do like how do I tip a valet if I pay with a credit card? And Oh no, but I didn't Google it teext it to my friend 'cause I thought that was Google Oh How turn it offopefull it's turned it off. Actually, I texted to one of my sources.'s power is turn And they're like, what was that deleted message? Don't worry about it. O. All right, I answer the question. I think the answer was gonna be Well, I mean, I was like Pro probably go get cash. I had to go to ATM. I went to the ATM and got a twenty dollar bill, and then I bought a kit cat so I could break the twenty. And I gave a five dollar bill 'cause I felt b I took so long. What's your life? W? Look, it's just constant. think about other people's feelings way more than mine and being veryious. should fix that. Yeah. not therapy. Oh, get another therapy. Yeah ' therapist. What if I one of the people whose feelings you worry about him, we' your therapist? I know no wrong. you. I don't know what they do. Except for Mandal Lord and Groky, would Judean. It's a bad movie Song talk, answer. Chuck, I'm in audio producer mode. I'm not actually listening to anything who possibly even remembers the question? Listen. all I know That party outside is fucking loud. I am doing a good job tonight. Sean, you are doing an awesome job. D listen to the audio? It sounds insane. like okay, so as the host It is loud out there. It's hard to hear people. I'm like, there's no way this sounds good But I have to ignore that because I have to focus on the people in the couch and then listening to, it's like, what the fuck, How does this sound so good? For like the first time ever. And okay, so I think this point with love. Hving had my hand on this ball for a handful of times These have sounded like shit. No. No, we know. We know every time we come here we're like we're gonna to try something different know know. I know y'all know and I know I know These have sounded like shit and Sean to your fucking credit. becausecause if your skill and talent and prowess does not sound like shit. It sounds you have your hand on this ball in a way that I think is like I think everybody please it up. I think I've said it to like everyone in this room, but I don't think I've said it on camera. My goal for this weekend was The audio needs to not suck. I think I told like Backlar specifically like that is my goal for this weekend. The audio will not suck because the audio always sucks and that's something I'm good at. that's something I'm going to make sure I bring to the table. And that kind of plays into what we were all talking about is that we're all good at something and some of us Realize what we're good at and we you know fit into that slot a little bit better as time goes on. And that's why you see like Will, if you all don't know, Will does like almost all of the social editing now because Will's really good at it. Will's better at it than I was. He's better at it than I was. And but you know, that's why like I'm on podcast editing duty and now when we're doing a live show I'm on audio producing Dudy. and I think we've all found our niche and that's why everything just works out. Yeah. I'll say we got to start wrapping up. but I'll say that I do think the one thing about the team is everyone does realize we are it's division of labor and everyone's working on their own stuff and keeping things moving forward And I super appreciate it. I love this team. I love you guys. Let's I mean, we're going to go home and we're going to go get right back to it. and we're going to be back here again next year. We're not going anywhere it is giant bomb forever, everybody Great job, Grub. than you every great job. E all the help everyone in the books. I mean, I assume I can't really wash much of it out there. I assume you did a fantastic job S of meat suck but that's all right. We he's been killed. I say one more stupid things. You So at home, you have no idea how much trust these guys have. in like the kids in the room to just like call shots, make decisions tell them, hey, you should focus on this and they just like listen and do it. It's fucking nuts Like just like Bill. The lack of pride, like they're just very humble about it. They're very talented, but like very humble and trust us with like a lot of decision making ability.. I I also need need to be so clear. the lack of pride is Bear You all do legitimately and I do I know all of you You do not your you do not blow enough smoke up your own asset Because we fucking suck You just def you just ruined the last point. Yeah you are you are really with love really bad at taking a step back and being like Gang holy shit Yeah. This is the thing that we have built together and I really do hope over the course of the next couple days as you as you walk your ways through this weekend and into the future and look at the shit that you're making and are legitimately proud bothoth internally and externally because you are making something that is meaningful to so many people. I need you to remember it. Can I give one more toast. Yeah, let's do it man. Let's wrap up right pull up av, pull up a bev. Imaginary Bev. I pretend this has stuff in it. Closest person next to you, all right Never above you, never below you. Always beside you Let's fuck it go.
