It is nothing but gimmicks to the point where it's not even baseball that you you' man to pay more attention to the gimmicks than you are the actual baseball Which I do have like a bit of a problem with on its face Yeah. People think like o Baglars is going to shit all over Banana Ball like he does. And you know what? Oh you're not I'm not gonna shit on it. I mean, I am a little bit, but I'm not going to like fully shit on it because look, we all know baseball in its current form, the MLB is an inferior product. No It's not great. It's boring agree. Okay, that's fine, but like the fact that banana ball exists does mean that baseball was meant Oh the fact that Harlem and Globe Trotters exist means that basketball iss a shit tier sport. Yeah. So it's not so everyone uses the Glob Trotters analogy and I think it's like I don't think that does it justice because this is this is like competitive Like where the gof Tows is just sort of say this is this is theater as well. I don't want to say it's not. most certainly theater. The matches are not worked though. There's trick pl problem. And you also don't have runs. like you just win the inning whoever wins the inning gets a point and then. It's like magic play.' sort of like that. And then also there's points for like trick plays, which is just sort of like I don't know. The styling points Yeah back point like the entire going to catch The entire experience kind of like makes you not pay attention to the baseball though, which I think they really have to fine tune. Apparently they sold out in Yankee Stadium like they sa everywhere. Yeah that a laundryy tickets. Yeah. And it was not as intense from what I gather because this was too much. Okay. Yeah. This was just too much. The music is playing. U, you know, it's the it doesn't stop. It's turned up to eleven and they don't finish any songs. It was like the most attention deficit disorder. Yeah, it sounds experience I've ever like someone Who designed banana Ball went on a roller coaster and after the first drop, they were like, what if we made a whole baseball game just that drop? Or just like they were bing out happen next. There should be dancers on this roller coaster. Yeah. It was just like by the end of it, I just I like I was exhausted just by ge of like sitting there. It was just too much. It is to me, it's like a very cool thing that all of these just not good enough MLB players like these like they have an alternative to go to to make money And I love right. I love that too, especially for this weird crossover demographic where like Theater kids and baseball play Like they somehow are both of them secret would the same Yeah againgst all odds and now they have a place. And I guess I started to like think about the financials, right? And I'm just like, The park I was at was maybe like nine or ten thousand people, tickets for only like thirty five bucks So I'm trying to understand. I mean, they they demoney very well on social media. They do tootally you know, again, like I'm just interested by it and apparently they just Sold their broadcast rights to the Disney, which is ob That's huge. they done a thing there. I mean, you know, concessions and everything Um they're coming to Cleveland and it was a thing where like my brothers had me and everybody enter the ticket lottery just to get tickets. Oh So I'm going to that game and like that they sold out are where the guuardians play Yeah. So yeah, I mean, it's like people are ravenous for these bananas. Do you think part of the appeal is the low price tag? Well it's just accessible and that' very. I mean, I think's lottery, right?. It takes like three like YouTube shorts to be like, oh, I have a favorite player. I like the guy on still Yeah pitches and stuff like that. And then that's like fun for the whole family. And then then it's like now if you're like the head of a family, Oh, I can get my family into baseball. It's gnder too, right? Like Yes It It's like a four quadrant thing. I don't think it I don't think it like lasts. like I think ten years from now' be like I think we go remember remember banana Ball That's not be like they saying like that's you know, failing of it. It just feels like very hot in this moment. sureure. Yes. And and I think you experience it firsthand because it is so insane Right? Like like I couldn't even imagine going like to two games in a week. Like you would be in a coma. You know, and like people of all ages, right? They did like three games for the weekend Friday, Saturday, Sunday. How' your how's your boy I think he's a great DPS character. They've they haven't stopped rolling out characters, right? They'll have maybe to a season now U, But for me personally, doesn't normally drive well with me. I liked Rogue a lot when she came out noticed But as like a DPS character just like hit scanning and for folks that don't know what that is at Marvel Rivals specifically, instead of having to like trail a target, you're just pointing your cursor and clicking and then generally that's the hit No travel time for a projectiles or. Yes, yes, no physical representation of of the yeah projection I think they did a very good job at translating Cyclops. And I know that Cyclops kind of had like a revitalization and a Rnaissance after XMen ninety seven And I think they do very, very well to give him nice mobility in the game to make him useful and like just the laser ricochets ricochets and stuff. just makes me excited to get back into Marvel rivals, which I already had spent too much time in But overall Sickers fuck boys. U He was scary whenever he was on the other team. That was probably like A lot of Marvel rival heads where it's like there' a lot of people who play a lot of Marvel rivals and are just generally good at the game But he seems powerful. justust seems like when he gets that ultimate, it's super scary, like it's it it happens very fast Ibvious a part of that is like, used to a lot of the ultimates from the other characters so I know what to do And this one I was just like, oh, what is that? And then I evaporated. So yeah, scary guy right now. Yeah. I can be played att most ranges short is like a little bit tougher just because u your laser beam, youre not laser beams. your' Iye beams better at long distances, but the ricochet ability is pretty neat. You can pick off or like get like a last hit very easily U, you know, when Cyclops has to protect his eyeballs because he lost his glasses protective glasses, he can occasionally get what Jeff Grubb is getting get a little bit of sensory overload. Yeah. I'm sorry, Jack. That was good. That was good. Thank you. Thank you. So this is the banana ball of video games talking about too much too much input. Sensory overload is one of those ones that I actually did pop up on social media. It seemed like the developer like found a like an angle through probably advertising like with the platforms, but then also just like getting on to the algorithm by being like Hey if you have like neurod divergent stuff, watch this and then it's like then they show a gameplay of the game and it's you're falling down the tunnel and there's a lot of like games like this and there's a lot of like mods or like Minecraft are like this, but you're falling down the tunnel and then there's objects or you know, obstacles that are spinning and you kind of have to dodge them. And the game kind of plays with that by having the the objects slide into frame from like the opposite side of like where the tunnel is sliding into frame. so it kind of could feel warbly and odd and like a lot. Yes, it's an overload. like and my brain instantly locked in when I saw this. I could not look away from the clip. and I was like oh, I can't wait to play that. So now there's a demo and I'm playing it and I started playing it and I did two hundred and fifty runs back to back in the W could not this is this is ansolute epilepsy detector That's what this game is Oh my God, dude. I you watch the trailer man I think that's what for a lot of people, it's going to be like this is so off putting and And for me, it's like, oh my God, my brain's been quiet for the first time in forty two years. That' That's weir. This is what it takes. Yes, this is what it takes. we'repileptic though You probably find. You never find. But clearly I'm not the shit that I like will like subject myself to in video games. Yeah, I'm doing all right. This game is just like, hey, dodge the things, but then they have a score system and there's leaderboards And basically the closer you get to the obstacle, the more points you get. It's like, oh that was a daredevil level of distance or that one was a death wish. And so you get to a point where it's like, okay, you have the tiny little mouse like right reticle on the screen And as long as that's in the quar, as long as you're aiming at the open air You can go even between the tiniest little spaces. So I'm like flying like there's like one box like there it's cubes, it's voxle based. There's one cube that's in the center of this like tentacles that are spinning and I'm like going along with it and starting to feel the flow and aiming for that. and I'm trying to do that back to back to back to back to maximize my score And It's very good. Oh it feels very good. I really think you would like geometry dash Oh I do. Yes. I've learveded Gemetruda. Yes, absolutely. There was a game just like it called the impmossible Game way back. Oh yeah. And. So yes, when I saw geometry dash, I'm like, oh that's just that game and I'm surprised to hear it's popular with the kids, but I'm glad it is Grub, how do you feel about Jeff Minter games? Because I feel like visually it's cllose to the sensory overload Yeah, I like them a lot, but I think my thing has always been like they are overloading on the visual senses. I kind of wish the gameplay would match that even more. And the gameplay is a little bit like you know, old style arcade, like moving stuff around. and sometimes it gets very hectic and really it's almost like a reverse of this where There are enemies climbing up the tube that you're on in a Jeff Minter game, like Tempest or whatever And then they start coming very fast and you feel like you're up here on the edge. Fnding them off. Somet about the sensation of falling and objects flying at you. like it's primal and it really just does make my brain like click into place in a way where it's like, I have to deal with this, I have to deal with this, I have to deal with this and I like that. Nice. Nice. Y. Mike Monoti, I think that's part real quick part of Steam N next Fest, the demooss out A lot of demos out Yes. and there's one I'd like to talk about as well. But Mike Menoti, I think I realize why you werere having trouble sleeping because you're so you're busy playing games U so many games on this rundown, Mike I don't know what from SG a lot of my embarges from MG Yeah. I promise I won't go into all of them Super long, but a lot of neat ones I wanted to talk about. Well, I'd like to start with Clive Barker's Hellraiser revival What about that? Yeah, this was this was over at Sabers' Booth at SGF. I look, I know very little about U how razor This game is a first person horror thing. So you know, kind of in that resident evil seeven style There's u There's a bit more going on with the combat like you can kind of like absorb elements and shoot them out, things like that kind of thing. But ye, it was like, you know, I'm in the building walking around kind of solving puzzles. likeike, Ohh, there's a safe. lookook around for the code for the safe It's also pretty like mind bendy. like there's a sequence where I was kind of like going through the same building over and over and each time the loop start again. looks more like hell. off course.s ofs of psychoosexual Yeah ye, yeah, yes, it was definitely that. lotots of like boobs, but like disturbing boobs. D Disturbing boobs. Okay we can't in the podcast that right? I want to really bad. I know. I know you can I think that's fine. Yeah Disturbing boobsat himP three. A shoko ponko Soko pon like, if you will. Um if if you play the witness and it's like, oh, this's like these kind of just, you know puzzles and it just sort of builds on that and edge twists and makes it more complicated This is that, but with block pushing And I think that's neat. If you told me to like name things you do in a video game, After I got through jumping and shooting, I bet I would get the block pushing. prettyret quickly You know, it's like sometimes it's always simp like, oh, push this block to get out of the way, make a path or put a block on this switch. You can open a door. But then different areas have more wrinkles to it. likeike when there's a mirror and you kind of push a button, the mirror will sort of reflect you onto a different place depending on where you are or characters will have different gimmicks. likeike one character would automatically pool block she came in contact with, right That's, you know, it's like there's also a decent amount of freedom in terms of like, it kind of put me in this place where north, east, west, south were all different. kind of worlds with their own set of levels, I can kind of bounce back and forth between them . Yeah, seems like a pretty fun puzzle game. I'm a huge the Witness fan, notot a huge Jonathan Blow fan. Sure poster on social media or whatever But yeah, I'm like looking at this game It's like I man, I don't know. I don't need much of an excuse these days to like skip one. I'm looking at it and it's not doing a lot for me. Lking at it. I trying to remember I felt same way about the witness. I don't think I did. I thought the witness looked immediately like, ooh, I need to see what's going on there. Yes. Witness I for me was instantly intriguing This Yeah. And especially the way Mike just even talks about it. I mean He he sounds really like Luke wararm on it No, no, I don't know. I mean, I liked it. I I' tell you what, the voice acting was oddly bad. I think it's maybe Temp stuff. Sure. weird. right? And that's like the thing like there's like the Jarath and blowness of it, right? banana ball of developers. Yes Yeah exact. It' too complimentary actually Well's just the opp It's just enough is like is kind of where I was going with that. right? It's more like watching a guy doing batting practice by himself in an empty field Yeah' kind of sad. But he knows you're looking. E It's kind of sad. Ohform. I agree. I guess for me, it's like I need to be sold on like the evolution of where this guy is going, right whereere you're like, oh wow, the windness seems like so big and open, right? Its big and Yeah. I see a lot of ideas. I don't know Gid Pushing blocks I don't I enjoyed the game. I think if you like puzzle games of that style Yeah I think this is going to tickle your brain a very similar way. Again, I think it's got toeam nextfest demo out. So Yes. I'd like to be tackled. Okay Maybe not by this. Sy overs. Jeff Baclar, you' also played a game at SGF that you can now talk about Yeah, I didn't play many games, but this one we can't talk about now. Tom Raider leegacy of Atlantis U I didn't I didn't love what I played. I whereere you at when Tombaider again? likeike remind me like you're Tombaider guy. Yeah, you're Tombaider guy That's what I'm a Tbaid gu Um, I was not I was not really compelled in a very deep way with what I this was the remake of the first one, right? Yeah. Yes, I believe so, yes. Y That's right. which, you know, I think the part that I play and like it didn't really ring any bells. So I assume it that it's just like a different kind of interpretation. It is a very long time since I played the Fst one, I think though, but Nothing really struck me as like, oh, wow, this is you know, there was one like rator part that I was sure familiar sureure. So yeah, I think it it felt a little janky, fel a little janky. I think there's a bit more polishing that's got to go on with this game for sure. I think you know, it looks great, controlled fairly well I just wasn't very moved by the moment to moment of it all And there was a lot of this like, you know, every twelve steps you take, there's like eleven flowers to grab and I'm just like, I don't want to do I don't the horizon. Do doing this there' just like grabbing all the bamboo and the flowers and the gold and like I just des I don't know. Crafting Maybe not what is the experience. not what is again this is very short This was maybe like forty minutes total and it was two separate sections Is it like is it like the origino Tombator where it's largely kind of like and you're on youram actually plat. Yeah, the parts that I played were that. They were platformy and like those were fine and I enjoyed like those very specific things. I just think theame the game just feels a little rough around the edges right now I think it's it was I think it's it was in a condition that was suitable for previewing. I'm not saying it was broken or anything like that I just I'm curious to see if there's a bit more polish left to apply on the surface of this thing. as is, I guess I would still try it out and start it and see where we go and But I was I did not walk away from that thing being like, I can't wait. whichich obviously is the thing that I was hoping to be able to be able to say for for this game But yeah, you know, u it's Look, I do think that first game certainly needs a remake aside from the sort of, you know remasters. Yeah. Remaster right fresh coat of paints on those things likeike this is definitely overdue for that. So I think that has me, you know, remaining somewhatwhelmed by what's going on here, but from what I played Uh yeah, I'm not exactly sych. How it look? Was it a It looked great. Yeah, it was on they, you know, it was running on a high NPC and u You know Yeah, it just, u, you know, and there was an interesting sort of chase scene with the T Rex and two Rapors I do think it's cool now that like All I am seeing in more contemporary media that like we're all in agreement about the bird dinosaur things. so now dinosaurs have like feathers I that's cool. We're coming around. We're coming around not fully. fully feathered out, but like ye. Do there some debate on like how many of the b feathers all have feathers whher feathers localized to one part of the body. That's right.ang yeah. Which makes sense. mayaybe they just had like, you know, armpit feathers. Sure. No know. Maybe like local feathers. Right the smelling Exactly. save it for later So yeah, I don't know. N not exactly like over the moon, but You know, I do it has not depleted my toomb raaider tank. I'm still U I'm still here for it. we'll look to see when that comes out. There was one more from SGF on my list and that is Demi in the fractured Dream. Okay. anotherother one I played at Nintendo's situation. This is An Aperna. published joint This is a windwaker like actually. Cool. It definitely has that Sort of art style even has like I knew I knew what I was going for when I killed an enemy and there was those kind of like wispy swirly cloud things that came out of him when he died. I'm like, oh, that's that's the windwaker thing for sure. I even had the like the giant deu leaf thing where I you know, the glider big gust of air. Oh and I was not not glider but like right that and I was on a platform on water and shot it and it propelled the platform. That kind of thing. This is also in the next fest, by the way. So you can download a demo for this on Steam right now. the like the fighting was a bit faster paced, right, a bit more like doodge rolly and stuff like that. So that Good. It was just a short down. I played sort of inside a dungeon. so I don't know that there's an overworld element to it. Like in a traditional Zaota game But just while I played in that demo, the Windwaker vibes were sort of immaculate and that's my favorite Zda game. so I thought I thought this one was pretty neat And worth checking out. That's Demi in the fractured dream. I want to check this out because I think as a society, we have long lost the art of sliding on ves entree branches a la Tarzan And I see that in this trailer And I want to get to at least that There hu Like do you have a sense of like how like Big this game is my now. That's that's kind of my question, right? Like Okay, so we're kind of doing Wind Waker. are there islands? because again, I was just kind of indoor what seemed to be a dungeon. So like what's the what's the what's connecting these areas is a sort of dungeon to dungeon? Is there an overworld Not sure. so I'm curious to play more this one even. But like the progression does seem like item based unlocks, right? where like you like you'll need Like I was like looking in this trailer. It looks like it's like a feather that can blast like a fnd or whatever. It blows thing I had And that tool's necessary to sort of like progress And it kind of sounds like it's going to have to be like a full Zelda game. I hope it is. I think it'd be awesome if just like straight up was doing a lot of that stuff, right? L Yeah. I hope have Overworld with Dungeons would be amazing, but like the, you know, What I could report on is that the game felt good. felt good. Okay. good. G. Okay, cool, cool cool. Another game that felt good to play is something that I checked out and is also part of the Steam Next Fest Sleigh Blade One guess what this is similar to. Oh, Okaykay Slay rhymes with Bay. Yes, that's right. This is another spinning top game. No way. Yeah.. There was another Bayblade like or inspired game that came out Gosh earlier this year, I think it was called fromr the top Yeah, that sounds right. But now but now it's Pride, so we need Slayblade instead. That's right, King and queen and non binaries out there. Happy Pride mononth. But Slayblade, I kind of immediately enjoy this more than from the top Um which was that other Bayblade inspired game. Here you are using your mouse to kind of point where your top should go and you're worrying about RPM. there are power ups that pop up. It's still very early from what I've been able to surmise from the game. You spend the day in like three different stages, so morning, afternoon and the evening, and you can choose to spend that either visiting a shop doing a random encounter like going to a gotachcha machine. Um going to a shrine to level up or the neat thing with your bay blade and I'm just going to call them bay blades You can mow a lawn for money Which is funny A you kidding? What do you mean real? That's good. So you get a patch of grass and then so your bay blade will go to wherever your mouse cursor is. So you can also build up momentum by like kind of spinning it around. And then you can one of the mini games to earn money and level up is mowing a lawn with your bay bllade That's great. I think this actually nails the feeling of of what I would want a Bay Blade game to be better than from the top because there's a little bit more direct control there. Also I just kind of enjoy this overall art style better. I haven't looked up as to when the projected release date is, but I'm excited for more bay Blade games that being said. Sleay Blade Steam NXest demos out now. I highly suggest it if you were a fan of u bay blading and letting it rip Is this the one that's like more PS one visual inspired? That was from the top that was from the top right. veryery minimal PS one lookook. This little bit more there are more colors than this one first of all. Oh I Okay, I'm looking at it now. Okay, yes. Yeah, this one looks more like, you know Indie game aesthetic is kind of what comes to mind. It's great. And it has like a small overworld that at least where it is right now feels a little bit cumbersome because you're still using the mouse pointer to direct where to go and everything, but that's stuff that can get hammered out U Another game full of colors and fun things is Yoshi mysterious book Boy. thought I was going to have no interest in this game. I I kind of wrote it off almost immediately. It's Tab's favorite switch to game, Mike. I was watching in play.'s like Yeahah,'s the best game. Yeah Man, That's funny because I have a Sab connection of another game later. but This this game is just charming and fun. It's I enjoying it. Im I'm getting close to sort of finishing it or at least rolling credits kind of documenting the first six chapters worth of those little creatures. you know, Dan reviewed this one talked about it a bit, so it's been brought up, but I'm just kind of surprised that I'm enjoying this because I'm somebody who has not really liked many of these other Yoshi games. I didn't like Wooie World or crafted worldld. They just didn't stick with me at all. And I thought the whole time I'd be like, I'm mad that this isn't a traditional two D platformer. And I'm not really thinking that. I'm just having fun going into these these pages and kind of exploring and, you know, each level has its own gimmick tied to whatever animal you're trying to document And it's fun messing around with that and sort of seeing what you can do. I like that It' kind of an end goal You get sort of fz around and look around and I do a little bit of that, but I'm mostly like I'll try to just get to the end goal and if I discover some other things along the way. good. I don't have to go into this with some mega complepletionist mindset to have a good time Yeah it does seem like it's very supportive of the completionist thing though where it's like there's a ton to find and it does seem very rewarding. So I've seen a lot of people doing that. But yeah, I'm with you, Mike where I think I started. I'm like, oh I kind of just like it's got so much good going for where this exploration and, you know, and that's just like gameplay exploration. Like what can this do is so good in the world, of course, as always in these Ocean games looks really nice. Like I just had like sort of one more element to it to kind of get me over the hump here to keep me super engaged. And then I just kept poking at it. I'm like, I, you know what? No, I'm kind of glad it's this speed that it's set at where it's like Just come in here, hang around. you can't really get damaged. You can maybe get annoyed by an enemy, but that's fine. That's part the exploration process And because of that it could be this very specific thing about like, hey, just Find out what these creatures are all about, find all the ways that you can make them do stuff. And if you want to spend more time messing around with that, there's probably some stuff that you miss the first time around. So I really think that's a smart for this whole idea of what Yoshi can be. cool Another platformer, Mike An Grub this pertains to you as our resident Bubsy guy But Mike, you have been checking out Bubsy four D. Yeah, just sort of played through this during the weekend. I've actually been playing a lot of Demon Tides, which is for Braz's other three D platform came up this year. That's like the bigger one. It's much more robust. Yeah. muchuch more robust that and has the kind of Bowser's fury style with all the island. So it's a bit open world It's funny playing Bubsy because it's it's very clearly and it should be, it's smart. Oh, this is just that game with sort of some bubsy coats of paint on it and more linear level base, but because that game controls well, this game controls really well. It was a good time some annoyintance is like they do a lot of these half pipe sections when we're in that ball form. thoseose are always kind of a little jinky in weird U I kind of have this complete with demonight say where They focus on their characters a lot and there's like a decent amount of the writing, but none of it's ever very good. And it doesn't pop off the screen No. No, it's not like there's a ton of it, but there's enough of it where I'm like, I think there should be less of this because this kind of, I don't know, isn't really doing anything for me to plus it. but Just in terms of the moving around and the jumping around Fs great , you know, the idea of like a kind of three hour three D platformer. That sounds nice. Cool. I don'tate that. That's buugs in. Yeah. It's bugs ye Yeah Yeah I've been surprised to like more and more people picking it up and u ind of feeling the way I felt which' like, man, the moving around this game is so good. It's so expressive and it's kind of a pretty decent sonic game. I don't know. I didn't have too many issues with the half pipes, the cannons, Mike canons suck Yes. like having to like over compompensate and not really understanding why. Yeah But I mean, It always like led to situations and these are canon moments where it's like you're blasting over like half of the stage. And so there's these big chasms and you got to get to the other side And it's like I would always like come up short or whatever. and then I'd have to do a couple like weird platforming things to maybe save it. And every time I got to do that, I'm like, well, this game's still good because that part is the best part of the game But yeah, the canons were very broken for me So was fun. I definitely think if anybody played this enjoy it and hasn't tried deemon ties, you should definitely be tryed It's good Demon ties because That's a surprisingly B game on I you sort of Buck away at that and probably beating that within the week Kelly you An game mister Menati that you've been playing that I really enjoy the look of and I hope that to hear positive things about it. Tethergeist. This is a list like Tetered Gist Yes Red emotional damage. climbing up a mountain Oh Re h right. I mean even to the point of There's red little collect bles floating around. You have to grab one and then touch the ground to fully collect and right.ike it's not strawberries in here. It's some kind of flower thing. Yeah, they they're very much going for the sless thing. I think instead of u Having anxiety It's unclear yet in my head canon is she has Cones actually. So I like that. O she just like like grab her something me be like, oh no, not right now, right? Everyone's like Oh myition makes it kind of like maybe you shouldn't go in this quest. So yeah, they haven't specified what it is, but I'm deciding it's Cones And I think I think my pal here just needs some Sky Rizzy and that might help her out there. The quest for Sky Rizzy Yeah. Sy Rizy sounds like a video game name anyway. saying that it's called that. I don't know say. Yeah. inst's just like the traditional dashing the kind of gimmick here is that you have this sort of spirit clone and it's tethered to you. you can send this spirit form out but only as far as the tether goes and then teleport to where it is, right? So then depending on how many charges of that that you kind of acquire through the level, you can kind of use that to do your tricky platforming Wnder if there's other wrinkles and different things like in the second world, There's there's these mushrooms. you can kind of like bounce through the mushrooms, things like that. So again, very much that celeste style of these kind of like single screen or two screen platforming challenges so you know, maybe it's a little derivative, but it's very good at being one of those it seems good. Yeah. I've not seen a Celeste two myself anywhere if it exists. I don't know. that would be a surprise to me. So if you have that Celeste fever. definitely going to feel that void you know, it has the gorgeousix pixel art, even it has the chill music really just is sort of hitting all of those Nes It's called Tether Gist. It's it's it's fully out. This isn't a u Steam N next I think. there is a demo, though. It's on Switch as well I just added it to my account. you would like it grub. You would like itest thy. Eactly Top one hundred game of all time for me for sure. Yeahah, absolutely gorgeous game. Before we wrap up games and have talk about the last game that we have here on the rundown. just visibility's sake, folks, there's a quick look out for NBA the R Grub.. Dan. P check that out G quick thoughtought. good, Yay, nay I when you're playing the B ball, when you're bouncing the ball and then shooting it into the hoop, it all feels real nice. Like we definitely struggled in that quick look, which is kind of like really the first time we picked it up. We tried it briefly on our Steam decks when we were at summer Game Fest. But we were like trying to see like what is it like to like pick this up and just want to do the stuff we would do in this game's, you know a predecessor, the thing that really inspired it NBA street volume two or any of the NBA street games And it was frustrating to be like, okay, can we just play against one another? Oh, there's this mom where it's like, oh, play against friends. And then like he would join and it would put him automatically on my team and say, I don't know if we can do this. And if we even if we could, which we never were able to figure out, it was so frustrating to figure out that it's like that's a mark against this game clearly, and this is not what it's trying to do. It is inststead trying to get you online in playing three V three matches where you're like you pick your character like you did in NBA Street but the other two characters are played by other humans and you're going up against other teams of three people. And that, you know, I'm glad that that's there. That's cool. That That does feel very modern. It feels like this, which I think is a forty dollars game good thing to focus on. But That's not how I played NBA Street. I went over to Joy Ficello's house after he got incredibly high after his shift of managing a burger King And we play DBA a Street volume two all night long and then watch Family Gy because we were very cool people Yes, exly. like we got to play local on the same screen and I picked my team and he picked his team and you know, that that was the way to play that and I just don't think this game has that at all. And it kind of it really should from the jump. If it's something they add later, great, but it really should still You're going to do that thing, fully be the thing and then add the new stuff on top and tell us why it's so cool to go online in these three v three matches. entntice me instead of kind of forcing me. That's where I ended up Another thing video out on the website. Now, Chuck and I did a quick look for everything is crab. The animal evolution roogue light. Guys, what if Sore was vampire survivors And that's what it is could have easily had been like right that's that's after the space section is in it and then it just becomes there. Yeah. Yeah. interesteresting. I also love this is sp based to one of my favorite science factorids, which is like Nature's developed crab like creatures independently six times. Oh that's what that's about It's about the crabbs thing. Yeah about the crab thing. Yeah. crab is the ultimate like destination for all of them. Yes for all of Yes, it just keeps happening over and over again and sci like whyy? they rule. And that's why I will eat all crabs because I to prevent their uprising. all right. snow crab. A lasting king s They have no control over me, but Jeff Baclar and Mike Menoti, YouTu did a little quick preview of control resonident and that is out on the website as well Yeah, it certainly is. Yeah another thing we we both got to play this pretty lengthy demo at SGF. They let us capture about a fifty minute chunk of it And Jer and I talked over that. I really enjoyed that game. That combat is feeling really good. It's a great mix of the combat and that kind of Lloie, double dash, double jump, lift yourself up the air, platforming that is super fun And just all the control Remini weird stuff is hitting really well in the like the customization you have with your weapon where you just have this rod, but it can take different forms. So I had it as kind of a battle axe and the alternative form was this drill. I just hold this button down. I'm just like drilling into these enemies and it felt super satisfying doing that. so baby I broad. It's good I think the thing that I came away from it was like convinced that like this change in style. U is okay. It's going to be okay, especially like person shooting to third person fight action, right is it's it's great. I still has all the stuff that you're coming to these games for is what you're Yeah. and you know, obviously leaving the oldest house, you're like, man, I'm not gonna to have aight cool little fucking weird And no, the weirdness is there. It's kind of like turned up to, you know, p ever right you know, yeah, a lot of like, you know, fun visuals that, you know, certainly call backack things like conception with like the folding streets and stuff like that of Manhattan. It's dope. It is really u I think it's going to be a lot to kind of unravel with the story of course, who can ever tell where that stuff is, but no, I think I think it's it seems like a lot of fun and I feel good about the the theme and the direction in terms of the gameplay that's going So that's all I wanted to. have coming out of that and feeling good about it. Yeah. just the story and stuff like and the characters were really working for me in this game. well them that I liked a lot and just sort of, you know, mix with that gameplay feeling so good maybe like mayaybe the game doesn't exactly like build on that gameplay a ton to the point where it's like, oh, we're constantly doing new things, but they they kind of give you some power fantasy trips there at the end that are really satisfying U But gosh, yeah, just really enjoyed really enjoy my time with that one Yeah, I just there's a ton of confidence obvious throughout It sort of culminates in the best way possible where it's like, oh man, they really established who this character is and like what he's about and you're fully on board by the end. and then yeah, you're like, I'm definitely like Let's get the next one. Let's see the next one. I know people are wororried about those headlines a few weeks back, Ray Amazon says maybe we won't work with IOI on the next one. There's some weird heaviness and kind of strange like an optimization. like The game has those kind of cloud effects and even like I was like, all right, I'll turn to medium I'm like very like nice PC and it would still just tank the frame An timee something one time I was playing and it wasn't a problem Yeah. and then you know it was again Yeah Whenever you're playing any video game, close disiscord. Wowose out this And you guys always use DLSS, right? Like Yeah. So depending on if I think the game needs it the way like R Right. I mean, that's like the first thing you should just turn on. You don't have to turn on frame generation, but turn on DLSS at least and put it on you put on the maximum setting, so it still is going to look fantastic, But I mean, you could put it on balanced as well and you're not going to be able to tell the d Thatt make me mad. It is perhaps my favorite evolution of like the hitman combat and there's a lot of it in zero zero seven, right advancing the gunplay and the hand to hand stuff But just He able to throw an empty gun and then stunning a dude temporarily just adds so much to the fluidity of the combat and like the jazz of it all Wh's who's that there's a social media account chat M maybe can help me out that does cool gameplaying like from soft games or action combat games they run through and they do all the awesome stuff and the camera's moving and all of the suden obviously did it live and it's very impressive. People started doing that with Bond where like, hey, I'm gonna run through this area in a minute and I'm going to go in there and blow up something with my watch and then I'm going to shoot those guys in the head and move right past them shoot the next guy in the leg and then run up to him and punch him. So his gun flies up, lands on my hands, then I'll use that gun to kill the next two guys and it looks cool so slick, so like that it's kind of unbelievable that that is kind possible in the game and that's what they really nailed. Sy Legendat big grub. Yeah, Suny Legend. Yes, exactly. Yeah that user I was say they give you a really awesome sort of like asset pack of box sort of like stage to just and animate whole so smoothly. Yeah Really impressive cinematic stuff. Yeah. So I don't know like Suny Legend did the Bond stuff but people are doing similar stuff to what Suny Legend does. Yeah. Yeah, I like watching those videos because it kind of inspires me to go back and mess around with a different toolkit because like I'll just get so used to using U like the laser or like I personally liked the camera shockwave thing, but like ye them going back and being more creative with some of the encounters is really neat. But Mike Menatti, I want to hear why you want to throw your gadget into the sun The superstation is that sort of Mrter style PlayStation one A of console So I came in with that and kid has the dock with the CD ROM drive and I just I know it's an enthusiast piece, but it has just been such a freaking headache to just go the list of problems you've had Well first, it wouldn't connect it wouldn't send a signal to my monitor So I tryed different HDMI cables. that's thing Every time there's a problem. It's not the first thing I tried. The second thing I tried, the third thing, it's like the seventh thing I try Maybe something will happen where I just wasn't getting a signal, so I was doing different HMIs, I was trying different monitors. You know, and my brother who's techier than I am was over and finally he Jiggle something Got a say jiggled it. Thatigled something. What that Right And like documentation and that thing ' so awful. It doesn't come with a manual. Okaykay, it's twenty twenty six. whatever's a QR code. QR cod sent you to Quick start guide. There's no quick starting this thing. That's not happening. Like there's no PDF of a big manual. It's a link to a YouTube video of a guy being like, here's how it works. And I'm like, get a scen here and watch this. I have this specific problem. I want to find the answer for that It's a mister, so you can Google anything that you're doing. And that's what I did. And so I had much I didn't have many headaches setting it up. I did have some once I started using the very specific console mode UI that is still being added that's in beta But as a mister, it's worked pretty well for me. Did you got the controller working eventually? No. neverever got that happening.. What do you mean that? Wow It never was sinking. It's like, oh, well, now put a Press this button to sync on Bluetooth. Well, that didn't work. Well, if that doesn't work, plug a keyboard into it and push h eleven. Well, I wasn't recognizing the keyboard.. D then just like, well, what's what's put the new Byas whatever on the flash drive thing. Okay So he does that. took him like five times for that to successfully be put on the flash card or whatever that in, that fish is soling. and now it's not sending a signal to the HDMI again. I can't make anything j? Did you jiggle? I was jiggling like Ient Like thirty minute and I actually just had to stop because I was getting so shooted. What about? I like I can't think about this thing anymore. What about instead Like, uh just like knowing what you're doing Have tried tried that AJ knows what he's doing. KJs here knows what he's doing. And look, he's making more progressly. he's going to come over again Um the HDMI issue sound like there's something wrong with the hardware. Yeah. G. Yeah. it's I't know what else it could be, like that's weird. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, that is that is weird. I mean driving fixed it. sounds bad. Yeah. Yeah So maybe I don't know maybe I'll get over the end of the setup and it's all going to be worth it or maybe the thing is just actually broken and doesn't work. A lot is happening here. feels like the story is still evolving By the time we get to next week and we do this again, I'm sure there will be a lot more details and some of the stuff won't have panned out the way that we're talking about it now. But the Verge reports that Ninja Theory employees We're told that the studio is closing, although they are hoping Microsoft can find a buyer and that seems to be where that's left off right now. In fact, there seems to be multiple studios in this situation where they are negotiating with Microsoft and Xbox to try to figure something out because otherwise they're going to get closed down The other studios there being compulsion and double fine Um So like just that's there's other stuff happening here. We'll get into all of it. rightight now it just feels like they are focused on their biggest games and everything else is in trouble U's last week Ashaharma had that reset memo about like the hundred days at Xbox and then the next one hundred days, which is going to be this aggressive reset. And she gave some examples of there's only a three percent profit margin, which is basically nothing. You can make more by putting their money into Boms or whatever. They also like are losing five hundred million dollars a year compared to what they used to make annually, even though they spent twenty billion dollars over the last five years And so one of her solutions to this is Let's invest even more in the biggest games. So halo, gears, elder sccrolls. They want to get fallout out faster, so more money towards that stuff And there was no mention of any of the other studios. and now those mentions are coming. It seems like Ses like it's going to be real bad for a lot of these a lot of these teams. And that is what I've heard. I tryed to look into this a little bit S sounds like these layoffs are going to be massive, major, big, a big problem. and it's going to get all of the studios kind of across the board. So things are looking great over at Xbox which. I think we were kind of feeling that despite them trying to put a brave face forward or a liar's face Xbox back baby. Xbox is back exclusives are back. We're super into this. It's going to be different this time. And every time we'd go like what do you mean? How is it going to be different? And it's like, oh no, it was always the same and that always meant cutting costs because they just don't they can't make this business work otherwise So yeah, how are you guys feeling about this? How are you reading all this? What do you expect to happen next? It's incredible the u It's like they because they they had Ninja Theory show us their new game. They revealed it what that's that's Yeah get over, right? Like what the fuck is going on there They don't know and it seems like they don't they're constantly course correcting based off of I don't know, maybe orders from above, but you know, like No matter what they say, they obviously pulled years of W E day from PlayStation at basasically the last moment very there was now there was also the reporting about the Halo trailer was going to be in that state of play. They pulled it and got Sony big mad at them about that because they did that at the last minute as well. you know, l by twets of their pants. It just seems so insane because if they're going And well, I mean, they did do those things with gears and halo I don't think they're actually concerned or know what they're doing in order to like make profit, right? Because we've seen Fortza do incredibly well on PlayStation that I am only assuming that Halo and Gears would do the same Well, itough seems like it because they're an overhead, right? Like that's what it is. Like if they're not making money, it's because they're just not overcoming their overhead. What I don't under, I guess the craziest and not crazy. Here's my question to you, Gr and everyone. You can answer aftergp U Keep that order, please. Like do you think this trans do you think this trickles down to I mean and who's not connected, right? Like I feel like everyone So watchatches that Xbox showcase gets sort of jazzed in their own way And do you think there is like any kind of Um you know, fallout to like the average person who like maybe these stories don't manifest and make their way to that person in the same way that the sort of gravitational pull of the showcase does like I'm trying to understand the kind of like PR machinations of this whole thing and how ill planned and the timing of it all is just seems so and so poorly thought out. likeike what's your take on that stuff Yeah, I mean, they like that's the she's clearly going for cheap PR pops repeatedly And and like the last one, she doesn't think about all that much once she's passed it. And so once it's time to do the next thing, she's back at co pilots saying Hey let's All right, I have these problems. What can I do? How can I message this and then you end up with We might be closing the studio a week later after just announcing its's a new game which is completely unhinged. L That is so like so easy to lose confidence in the company like that with stuff like that. gohead in Well, like I know that we joke around about like Microsoft consulting co pilot all the time, but like I'm not joking. That's I think that's what I think that's what they're doing. I's like, don't worry, everyveryone will forget. They I have's what they're doing. pull their heads out of the sand and out of their asses at some point, right? Like there has to be someone doing a temp check Eventually I mean, I'll just go ahe Beck Yeah. justust going going out there. Saying what you're saying in this showcase, knowing full well what hammers about what shoes' about to drop they it' disgusting. I think they might not have known. I think they might have on the other side. Yes. I think they might have gotone on the other side. and look they knew they were off see their pants are going, right? talking less than one week or whatever Well they always knew they always knew like they were have to cut cost. I don't think they knew the specifics of how they were going to do it until she got on the other side and started like asking C pil literally Okay, here are my problems. Here's what the studios are making. She just feeds in all the information and it's like, well, here's the hard choices. here's what you're going to have to do some way I'm not joking. I think that's what's happening over there. talking about that PR angle. and that's That's where I hate say like there's like a world of the normies, I imagine where yeah, maybe none of we' going to know. But then there's that like enthusiast level and not like super enthusiasts maybe this, but people who know. they like' minority. right? Like people who don't know are the minority, I feel like at this point. Right. But like so that's why I'm like douo fed and like, you know, and I don't mean for this to come across as like you know, I don't know crass or something, but like baby compulsion, you close that and that flies under a lot of people's radar But at Double fine. That is such a story kind of well liked and respected Yeah stududio that does all of these things. Like I just you I don't know if you're going ever get that stank off you if you're if you close down double fine Yeahep, that's exactly. and it's u The audience for Xbox right now is just like kind of die hards. and if they're trying to break back through into like the slightly more casual audience, people who like or people just like video games and would say, Hey, okay, I can only get this game on Xbox if I want to console, then all right, I'll get an Xbox like on Like all the vibes are off because it's these people that are the biggest fans are constantly defending things in the most crazed way possible because they're always trying to justify every action is making sense. It just it drives everyone away. like and like normal people too, normal people can sense that. they don't they don't know the details. They don't know the specifics of why it's weird. All they need to know is when they look over there, seems weird, look over at Nintendo and everyone's having fun with Picopia, That's a different vibe. And so it's it's kind of this huge mountain that I don't know and I haven't thought they they've been able to get over for the last little bit And that's where it was always like, how are you going to solve all these other problems beyond exclusives are back, which just does very little just, you know, all of these all of these tempes, right? They they're in a way they're just sort of pep rallies, right? And I just can't Grapple. of like in less in no less than like ten days. You have this like massive massive fallout following what otherwise was I don't know. I don't I don't think like people came away from the Xbox showcases like All Xboxes back C Yeah the H was are back fer. Yeah Yeah. it wasn't bad But it wasn't like, oh, that's it really is baffling just baffling and how do you expect ever I mean, not that it had any semblance of existence, F last week How do you ever expect earn back any semblance of trust, I have no idea I mean, that's the thing here. Maybe they don't care because There's reporting out of was it the Intercept somewhere. I can't remember that Xbox is going to get spun off or they're looking into making it stand on its own or finding a new external partner that can sort of take over the cost of running Xbox. Ming Microsoft gets rid of the Yeah. I mean Microsoft iss done with it. Yeah. Yeah. I mean it's private equity time or something like that. Like it could be that bad But yeah that doesn't save it No, no it doesn't save it. But it's I mean, it's goode where Microsoft is at. Microsoft doesn't care about it because they might be getting rid of it for good Right. I know I mean I just there's only so many people who are going to be able to buy this Xbox really be buying it Well, I mean it'll be that or it'll be likeies or something, right? I They're going to want callall of Duty and they're going to want Blizzard and they'll like Ohh, we have an obsidian as well. I guess Are they allowed to make the new fallout? Maybe not then Ohh well, they go to I mean, And it's not I don't think Microsoft sells activision or or mindcraft along with it. Oh you to keep those. Right, Right. Blizzard might be also. Yeah, yeah. So maybe Blizzard yeah. Right. So in that case it's like you start everyone tal aboutos Is Bethes the part of that then too because they don't o that's where it gets. I mean but that's like It's nothing, but I do think that these studios are being judged by their P andL sheets, like the profit in law, rightight And here's how much it costs them to make a game. And here's what their last game made And how and hey, what why did they why did it only make that much? Well, everyone got it for free and game pass. But like what can that studio have done about that? Nothing. so we're still still got a punch of studio. likeike this is the story of Microsoft and Xbox making their own bed over and over and over again and having to sleep in it over and over again. And then the studios once again kind of paying the price here. It's yeah, I think after their fiscal year is over. so at the end of the month, Probably early in July, we start hearing about the hammer coming down and it's It's going to be kind of a blood bag. Right But there's there's nothing that's going to come and solve these problems. No No the seventh gears of war, whatever it is, it's not going to change the foundations Oh Um I mean, you know, the halo one remake that'll be that'll probably do well once the next halo come out, peopleople going to suddenly Love that more than they liked Infinite. Is that going to solve the major problems Infinant had or is just difficult to make enough content for that game to keep people satisfied. Outer scrolls still very far out fall out. They say, Oh we want to make fall. Okaykay, well, how right? Like ye unless you have obsidian do it And again, maybe you do and maybe that's what saves them. although maybe just the fact that they have a Eent output helps Obsidians put out five games since they've been R acquired where a lot of s other studies put out one maybe one. Right. Yeah. Right. And that's like a problem the whole industry is having, right? Like And, I don't mean to just like like be like peopleople hate when I bring up, o, PlayStation is gonna to have similar problems someday Let's, you know, ten years from now They're going to look at a nye dog and be like, hey, that studio released one game in the last fifteen years or something like that, right? Oh ye one hundred million dollars on them every year. Wh Why do we do this? There's It's just kind of a scary proposition for the entire industry, right? Yeah, there's going to be someone that takes over leadership that isn't as like tuned in and is just a numbers person, right And that may make that same decision that you talked about, Mike G people Yeah go. Isn't it amazing that like even the head of Xbox just seems to have like not a lick of power Right? likeike ye I know, like that's what I've beeninking through all this too. it's just like you're the boss and your power kind of got spin up by Phil though. Like you know, youent like literally spent twenty billion dollars they said over the last five years trying to make all these changes And all they got for it was making five hundred million dollars less per year. Right That right right. And that is w how that happens. you get calls duty and everything and everybody is like so like, well this is going to be a big monopoly. Although it definitely seems like this will eventually and maybe quickly expand beyond that They've done previous campaigns that must have been more maybe designed on their side of things with Visa Low's, Red Bull, xinity, Peacock and Mountain Dew. and they're like those are the examples people should be thinking of like what's possible.
