And the biggest surprise of all, I'm hosting this one. James gets the main pod, John gets Here's what you missed. So I thought it was about time I'd get my own. Now we'll drop these surprise pods in from time to time when you least expect And the reason for this one is we appeared as guests on the latest episode of Escape this podcast. And we wanted to chat about it and set each other some mini quizzes based on our experience in the escape room they set for us. So check out the podcast to see if we manage to escape or find out if we're still lock od jail somewhere in the depths of the internet. seearch Escape this podcast wherever you listen to podcasts and we'll also pop a link in the show notes so it's super easy to find. But before we get to our mini quizzes, James, John, how much fun was Escape this podcast to do? How did you find it? Well first of all, Johnny, may I say, what a fantastic introduction for your first ever odcast hosting Wow Immacate. I've been practising in front of the mirror for literally minutes es this podcast. it was really fun. It's the first podcast we've done as a three that we haven't had to prepare anything for. Yeah, just turn out. It was great. It was fun just to sort of just sit back, enjoy the ride. As I think we mentioned on the pod when they asked us about Our experience in sort of rolepling games and those sort of things and all of our experience was zero. This was our first sort of foray into that world. And I think I've got a real taste for it. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed delving into the characters, you know, I enjoyed sort of getting involved in the scenario, things getting revealed bit by bit, you know, it wass really fun So for those people who don't know Escape this podcast, John, tell everyone what it is. What Escape this podcast is basically an audio escape room, where you are led through a story, given a set of tools or rooms or places to investigate, and you have to work out the puzzles to make your way and escape that room. I found it way more immersive than I thought I was going to. It felt felt like I was in an escape room. I was completely into tunnel vision, wasn't thinking about anything else Completely immersed. So Danny, who kind of creates the escape room, made three characters for us three to play and it was very much more of a linear journey. It sort of eased us in. Should we return? I imagine they'll ramp up the difficulty. Absolutely. Well we'll see if we get asked back. I guess it depends on what the feedback is. If you don't want to hear us on there again, do flood them with complaints So Johnny, you were saying that you think maybe it's opened a door into the world of Dungeons and Dragons. You think you're going to do a bit more of that in the future? I mean, I've always sort of fancied it. If someone would have asked me if you'd have played it before, I'd have said, yeah Johnny is definitely done Yeah, yeah. we should explore it. We should try and do our own little adventure one day. The thing I struggle with is like pretending to be someone else. whereereas in this one that we did we were very much kind of ourselves, I think. you know, we weren't necessarily characters or anything. And a lot of the time I think you're kind of restrained, you know, I want to do this, Well you can't do that because you don't have the wand of enchantment or whatever it might be. There was none of that with this. We can create our own That is, you are three whiz producers and you're about to go live in one hour and everything's going wrong. Well, that's the beauty of D and D is that you can create your own as well, isn't it? So we could create our own as long as you know the rules like the structure to play within, we could create our own Johnny. Do what we want. Well, if people want to hear us do that Get in touch. Our website is in the description of the show notes. seend us a message and we'll start a campaign. Here's what you D and D. People didn't come here for a D and D campaign. They might do next time, but for now, they're here for some quiz questions, right? Yes. And we've all prepared a little round handful of questions with a sort of nod to what happened on Escape this podcast. And first up, with their questions, it's me. It's my podcast. I'm going first. He sorted the order out. Now, not to give too much away, but there was one character that we were mixed up in when we were on Escape this podcast called Martin. Oh, Martin. Mart quite the character. So loosely based on that experience, I've come up with a little quiz all about famous Martins. Oh. And what I need you guys to do is tell me which Martin I'm talking about. Okay, I only know three, so I'm just gonna write them down. You write them down because Well, come up. Okay, I'm doing the same. I'm popping them down. I'm gonna to reveal clues. Buzz in, when you know the answer. So Martin Get it wrong, you're locked out for the next clue. Martin, number one. They were born in Aldershot, England in nineteen seventy one O This Martin has appeared in Allie G in D House and Love actually. Martin Martin Martin. I think that was Martin James. I think it's Martin Freeman. Let's find out. C couple more clues. They play Everet K Ross in the MCU. They have featured in all of Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy of films Short of the Dad Hot Fuzz and the world's End. They played Bil Bo Baggins in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy and they're best known for playing Tim Canterbury in the office. You are correct, Martin Freeman. There were quite a lot of clues there and you know John and I very well. You know we were getting that after clue three, but you still wre four more which I Very much appreciate. I enjoyed it. I love that He wasn't one of the ones I had written down by the way. Well there you go. Next, Martin. This Martin was born in Frankfurt, Germany in nineteen sixty five. Oh gosh. In nineteen eighty nine, he featured in his first movie Do the Right Thing. He starred in his own sitcom from nineteen ninety two to nineteen ninety seven Cold Martin One of this Martin's most recognizable roles is Marcus Burnett. M Martin. Martin John. I think it's Martin Lawrence, Johnny. It is Martin Lawrence. Beautiful. He's the first one I wrote down. He wasn't on my list until that moment. Yeah, Detective Marcus Burnett, he played. And then the final clue, or I think you would have got it is the star of Big Momma's House, Big Mama's House too and Big momm's like father, like son. Are you ready for your final Martin? I'mraced. There's one a piece. This Martin was born in New York in nineteen forty two. Martin. Go on, James Martin. James Martin. The British chehef. He wasn't on my list. I have two Martins on my list. Martin Kemp. He wasn't born in America, I don't think. So I'm just gonna to go for Steve Martin because he's the only other one I've got It is not Steve Martin. You're locked out. So John, you get this clue for free. He initially wanted to be a priest but failed during his first year of studying. Martin! John, you're in. You don't need to Martin. I think it's always worth martining when the opportunity presents itself. I'm going Martin Scorsae. It is Martin S scorsaise. Wait, did you know that from the priest thing, John No, he's just he's the oldest Martin on my list, so I thought, let's go for that Martin. Oh, okay. Who else is on your list? Cloons? surely we've all got clloons on there. Oh yeah, Martin Clon. Ive got Martin Johnson, the rugby player, Martin Lee, former tennis player. Nigel Martin, the goalkeeper former golalkeeper for Leeds. Yes, good. These are great Martins. And I also had House Martin just in case in case you're gonna do a band Scorsesee appeared in Kirb your entnhusiasm, thirirty Rock Eourage in the Studio. He directed Michael Jackson's Bad video. At the end of that, at the end of our game of Mini Martin, winnerist, John Martin, Martin Cantreu. And congratulations. Thank you very much At my bank, I was literally getting pennies using Wealthfront, Ching There's this much that I'm getting an interest and I didn't have to do anything. Clients like Angela earn up to four point two percent API on their cash with the Wealthfront cash account. Get started at wealthfront dot comot cllients paid one thousand dollars for their testimonial creating a conflict of interest outcesary. three point three percent base API as of january thirtieth, twenty six is represented viable earn on funds sw to programs. point five percent new clientsoo for three months and up to one hundred fifty thousand dollars D direct deposit one thousand dollars month fund invest account for a point fivecent incase cash account off by Frroage LLC, member Fina S IC not aank Next up, it's Martin, James Okay, so I've done a mini quiz all about one of the items we were given for the escape room. So me, Johnny, John, and Martin each had an item. I won't say what the other three got given, but Martin was given a glaive. Now, I'd never heard of a glaive before and just kind of went along with it until we kind of worked out what it was Had either of you guys heard of a glive before it was mentioned? No. I thought it might be some sort of spear, but that is as close as my brain got to it. Yeah, I was the same. I sort of just the way they described it, I was like, okay, I think I know what it is, but just pretended I knew off the bat. Yeah. That was it. That's exactly what I did. And after we recorded the escape room We had a debrief with Bill and Danny about the room, which will be released next week. So if you're listening to this live, it'll be out next Wednesday. B you're listening. On Listen Back, it'll already be there to listen to. And Bill made a joke request for a quiz called Glaves of the World. So I thought I'd try and do that. I'd have a look into Glaves and see if I could do Glaves of the W worldld so There we go. He might edit that bit out and it might not be in next week, but just in case, here it is. So a glaive is a large stick with a blade on the end. It's like a fantastical pipe Essentially. and I'm saying Pike like people might know what that is, but I know it's a fish.. chararacter inances army. Yeah, a long wooden stick with a blade on the end that looks a bit daggery, kind of But there there is another type of glaive and we'll get onto that later. Oh Now I know we're not naming the quizzes for here's what you didn't expect, Johnny. But Bill said it should be called Glaves of the World. I think a more apt title for this would be conclavves. God, because we're having a conclave and they're like fake glaves Yeah Anyhow, three quick questions and I won't say the word glaave ever again. So in the Muromaki period of Japanese history, all arms such as Njinata, which are essentially old Japanese glaves were the principal weapon of foot soldiers. Just give me any year of the Muromaki period. That's the Murumaki period of Japanese history. Now I've not said that It's M U R O M A C H I. That doesn't help. You've got one hundred and eighty years to play with here. There is a big range. That's quite a lot of play. But luckily Miramaki period is my favourite in Japanese history Their main weapon was a glaive, but yeah, this is why it's a conglaive because it's technically called a Najinata, a Japanese glaive. Glaive, by the way, G L A I V E. There's an eye in it. I've been spelling it incorrectly the entire time. Okay, Johnny, give me a year where the Muramaki period used glaves. I am famously bad at time periods. I've no idea how long ago things happened. I've gone for seven hundred forty Okay John, I have gone for eleven hundred and fifty one. Oh well, four hundred years in it. neeither of you are that close. One of you is two hundred forty one years away. It was thirteen ninety two to fifteen seventy three. So technically John' closer there, but no one's getting a point for that because you were both miles away That's when the Japanese like a glaave, but the Korean glaave is called a Waldo WO LD O. And I very nearly did a W's Waldo quiz. Yeah. It doesn't really work that well on an audio only pod. But what does Wallddo translate as that is WO LD O It's a something blade and it's a Korean glaive. W O LDO, what does it translate as? Phill and Danny were talking about if you do do fantasy roleplay, there's quite a lot of glaes in there. So maybe this is well known. Maybe people who do this kind of thing know about the Muramaki period and know about the Waldo. But you guys both look perplexed No. No wolough has passed me by. Me too. Go on, John. What does it mean? I've said it means curved, so it'd be a curved blade. That's a sensible guess. Johnny, what do you think? Wobbly Holy blade You know what I mean? if youve got a long stick and something on the end of it, it's wobbly. I think they fused it to it though. I don't think it was like sllar taped and it just kind of flopped around a bit. Yeah, but if the stick's like twenty feet If it's long enough, you might get a bit of wave in there. Yeah. I thought you meant wobbly like a really bad way of writing serrated. Do know what I mean? I was wobbly on the end of Neither of you are correct, but it is to do with the shape. It's a moonblade Oh because of its curvature, which I thought was quite nice. That is nice. That was our second conglaave. We're coming to the more modern day now. whichich Marvel character has a boomerang style throwing weapon called agaive essentially looks like a two sided ing star that this is also called a glaive. So again, I didn't know anything about glaes, so I've been trying to look into it. and this was like the top result that kept coming up. I was like, that's not a glaive. A glaave big stick with like a moon shappe glade on it. but no, apparently this is also called a glaive. It was popularized by the nineteen eighty three film Do you know film Johnny is that famous? Legend of Krll. In that film, they called this kind of weapon a glaive and then since then other characters have been using it, but there is one Marvel character. Johnny will go to you first. Who is it? Describe it again. It's like a two. Like a boomerang style throwing weapon. So like, you know, like the throwing stars Yeah J just a two sided one, so it's like curved, A bit like an S, but flatter. Oh, okay, a bit like an S but flatter. That's different to what I was imagining. Because well, I've gone for Moon Knight, but here's are more like curved blades that he throws around Yeah. If we both got it wrong, can we have another clue? You absolutely can. Yeah, John, what have you said? Well, I meant to write down Moon Knight, but I forgot what it's called, so I've written down Moon Dragon with a question mark next to it. That' definitely wrong. Im Dragon is a Marvel character. Oh was it? Yeah I guess she's quite a deep cut. Well, Moon Kight does have a projectile shaped like a waning crescent moon. Yeah, but that is called a crescent dart. That is not called a glaive. They also have a boomerang as well. So right kind of arsenal of weaponry, but not a glaive So it's an older Marvel character that hasn't made an appearance in a while, but may be coming back soon. Ekra? Oh, that's a nice one. It's not Ekra, no. Daredevil's on at the moment. He does, he's got his little sticks, like his nun chucks things. All I can think of. Who's the guy that Jy Courtney plays in the suuicide squad? that's not Marvel. That's Captain Boomerang That's the only thing I can think of at the minute aside from Moon Dragon, which is nonsense. I'm gonna show you a picture of it. Okay. It's that kind of ar Oh Oh I know. Is it blade? Yes, Johnny. well done. So yeah, that thing that he throws, it's called a glaive. Now I nearly said for the question, speaking of blades fternoonblade, But then I realized it was the answer, so I corrected myself. Yeah. So that's three Glaives that weren't Glaives. It was Glaves of the worldld or Cglive. There you go. We've all learnnt something. We have. Oh, there is one final question actually I'll just do super quick. It' a tiebreaker style thing. Glaive G L AIVE is also the name of a musician An American singer songwriter. They're on Spotify. I think we've seen in previous podcasts that anyone is a musician on Spotify, but they're quite well known. How many streams has his most popular single, The prom had on Spotify? It's in the millions. Oh, I mean fair play, mrter Glive. Well done, Glive, unless this sounds like three old people talking about a really cool young musician everyone knows. Go on John, what's Glave' got? He's got ten million, nine hundred forty three thousand two hundred and thirty one streams. Specific. Yeah. I got to go pretty specific. It's not spot on, so Johnny, what do you think? twenty six million and one. O, he's gotone bigger. Johnny's close. And if you add both of yours together, you're still short. it's forty seven point four million Wha! at the time of recording. If you're listening in the future, you might have a few more. See, it gets one point two million streams a month does Glive. Wow. Well done Glave. And they were my questions, but here's what you didn't expect Next up is John. So what escaped this pod? One of the first issues we encountered was a very angry bird. And that obviously reminded me of the game, Angry birds, which has become something of a cultural phenomenon, spawning loads of different games, three movies, and it even led to Red, the main protagonist, and dare I say the angriest bird, being made an honorary UN ambassador Wow, so I thought, why not do a bit of angry birds trivia for my little quiz? Oh. So here we go, three sweet little questions on angry birds. While I was thinking about this, I thought the most obvious question is whyy are the birds so angry? Is it A? becausecause the pigs keep stealing their eggs? Is it B? because the pigs are slowly taking over the world? or is it C of Climate change I think I know this. I think I know this. Hang on, this is hiss you didn't expect. Should we just work together? You didn't expect us to do that.. We'll do what we want. Yeah, you can work together, go for it. After three, shall we say? Yeah O, two, three. eggs! You should have coordinated that better. Absolutely right. It's because the pigs were stealing their eggs. Well done. We move on to question two. Now we know why they're angry
