In today's episode, we'll kick things off with a tasty starter from Order Up, dig into a hearty main course with food fight, and round it all off with a sweet dessert, courtesy of too many cooks. First up with their extra questions is Johnny. In my quiz Order Up I challenged James, John and Alex to tell me where specific movie food orders came from. Now, Alex has sadly left the restaurant, but any meals that you guys want to eat in any particular movies, An that spring to mind or that we had on the pod? Yeah I was wondering if there might be some animated ones that would come in like a ratatoui. I did look at ratatouilli, but there was no real ordering involved that really worked Yeah, I guess he's making it rather than ordering it. I wondered whether you were going to go for some father beans and a lovely kiante at some point. Yes. Once again, he never orders it. He mentions it on the phone. The amount of movie clips I watched, I watched the End of Silence of the Lambs with him sitting down and when he says on the phone to Clarice Starling, Oh I'm having a friend for dinner whatever the exact line is, but ye there's no waterder. Yeah. I always fancicy in Bill and Ted, they take Napoleon to like a water park and I think before that big like ice cream Sunday like banana split thing a ziggy piggy. and I've always fancied that myself. They always look glorious, don't they? The one that always comes to mind is in Home Alone when Kevin makes himself that giant ice cream suunday but it's not quite an order. The bowl. Yeah, the bowl of sugary stuff. But again, it's not quite an order. We're in a very similar wavelength that I was certain in Home Alone two. You know, there's a scene where he's in the hotel room and he's got all the ice cream and everything there. I thought he phoned up reception and ordered it but couldn't find it, Do doesnn't happen as far as I can tell. Oh that would have been an incredible meal because it had been five or six or seven dishes. Yeah. Well, you' pleased to hear I've got some more movie based meals. O. But this time, the characters aren't ordering the food, they're just eating it most of the time Okay on again Just tell me what's the movie. I mean, you can work together, but I mean I think youll know you'll know two fairly fairly well, but let's find out. So meal one, spaghetti, maple syrup, chocolate sy syrup Got it already. M andM's, marshmallows and a chocolate fudge pop tart. Now, James, don't say anything because John is looking bemused No read all of them out again. Yeah, but this is one of those things where John doesn't know it and then he just plucks the answer out of thin air now. I'm one hundred percent confident that James has got it, but I'm having more fun watching Johns struggle, so John, I don't know. Here we go again. sppaghetti, maple syrup, chocolate syrup, MMM's, marshmallows, and a chocolate fudge pop tart I have absolutely no idea. Wow. If we hadn't just mentioned home Alone, I'd say home alone, but I don't think it's that. I have no idea at all. Okay, James, what's the movie? It's ellf R remember that at all from?, It's when he goes back to the house and he's making it all then he does that giant burp. No, that has blown past me that has. So's buddy the elf from the movie Elf, Will Ferrell famously playing him. It's when the wife of his dad comes in and he's there having breakfast. Mary, Mary Steinberg is she called. Mary Ted Danson fun fact and I mean, double check that fact, but I think that's correct And he's yeah, he's eating breakfast and it covers all of the main, is it the main four or five food groups? I can't remember exactly what they are. Yeah, they're all basically just sugar, aren't they? It's like sugar, candy canes, coottee candy or syrup like Yeah Yeah. I remember that. I remember that one line. I have no recollection whatsoever of what food he ate It's a classic. And then I looked it up to get the exact sort of recipe for what it was and stumbled upon a website where someone had made it for themselves and eaten it and said it wasn't that bad You put that amount of sugar at anything, it probably tastes okay, I would imagine. Yeah, you're right, everything tastes like pudding after a certain amount of sugar. And spaghetti, I mean, you put like Nutella on toast. whyy not on spaghetti? I'm here. You getting to tellell spaghetti, do you? That missing a trick. Yeah. Well you'd pop it in some ravioli'd be even better. Oes. Imagine chocolate ravioli with well, ala mode with a little ice cream Melting away. Oh yes, please. Weich just start our own food podcast making up completely random foods. I genuinely want some chocolate ravioli. I'm sure someone must have we can't be the first people to think of chocolate ravioli. Someone must have done. Something that they won't want is meal number two. Let's see if John can redeem himself. Snake sururprise, scarab beetles, eyeball soup, and chilled monkey brains Yeah Oh no, John's shaking his head and James looks confused. Well, I only really associate scarab beetles with the mummy films, but you don't really eat them there. They're the ones that they crawl under the skin. Yeah. Scarab beetles, monkey brains Chilled monkey brains. What else was that? Snake surprise Scarab beetles, eyeball soup and chilled monkey brains. It' No surprise. Is it what the lost Bys eat in hook Thiss is super colorful, isn't it? Yeah, it's imaginary. you only can eat it once you believe the food is there. Yeah, but theyd say what it is, don't they? They go down the table and go, Oh, this is this thing and this is Yeah but's nice it's nice stuff. There's no snake surprise or eyeball soup or chilled monkey brains I'm struggling a bit here. Crocodile Dundee. Luckily you've got John on your team. John. I believe this is Indiana Jones. I think it's the Temple of Doom. I think that's the correct movie. and they eat a banquet having all of those delicious foods. That is correct. It's in the Pankcock Palace. Not seing it What? You've never seen Indiana Jones in the Temple of Doom. I feel like it's been on Telly and I've seen some variants of some of the films.. And some of the clips you've seen where like the guy with the sword and he just shoots him and stuff. I've seen bit like that, but I've definitely not seen it with the food. No. Wow. So you're sort of right, James with that, but it was Raiders of the Lost Ark where he shoots the guy with the sword. and it was meant to be like a long drawn out fight where they actually have a sword fight, but Harrison Ford had dysentery, couldn't really shoot much that day, so just shot him instead and it made an absolute classic moment of cinema. Aaz That's amazing. Right, we've got one more. it is. fifty hard boiled eggs. Yes. Oh, I know this. This is fifty hard boiled eggs. Oh, don't say it yet, James, John, this is so fun that it seems to me each question really stumps one of you and the other one knows it. Yeah. No, I don't actually know it. I can see it know it, but I don't know it, if you know what I mean. Yeah. Is it a competition like in a pub where they're like competing against someone and they is it that kind of? No. I think you're thinking well maybe the great outdoors where John Candy eats the giant steak. I was tempted to pop that in the quiz but I thought that may be a bit even too niche for you guys I haven't even heard of that film, so I definite wasn'tinking of that. Ohys is great. Cim it. John Canty. Dan Acrod. I'm thinking what other reason would you have for eating fifty eggs? They're quite you know, they're protein heavy. feeleels like the sort of thing a boxer might do is rocky like a shout that we could go for. Yeah, that's a shout. It's a great idea He famously drunk five eggs, raw eggs. It's not Rocky. Is it a pirate? It's not a pirate. It's Paul Newman in the movie Cool Hand Luke. Oh I would never have got that. He bets someone he can eat fifty hard boiled eggs. Yes. I do remember that. now you said it. alough I wouldn't recommend anyone does it. I think people have actually died having tried to eat as many eggs. So Really? Don't eat fifty hard boiled eggs. That seems insane. And that was my. Here's what you missed. Next up, it's James. In my quiz Food fight, Johnny, John, Alex, and I battled it out to name the best food to accompany another food, but it had to begin with a letter in the original food. And we only had five seconds to say it. Alex is gone now, so I thought just Johnny and John could have a head to head Fal food fight And originally I did want to do kind of food fights where two people battled against one another in like a semif final and then a kind of final vibe. but I thought maybe I'd just save that for here's what you missed. So let's do that right now. Lly. Bring it on. So I've got one more four letterered food. So Johny you'll get to choose an accompiment first, beginning with one of the four letters. John will then get to choose the next And then Johnny must give a food beginning with the final letter. It's a classic ABBA situation It's classic. It's Aa, classic Aa. So whoever names the best accompanying food for the original one wins. Are you ready? Ready? Yes. Your food item is rice. So Johnny, a good accompaniment that begins with either R I C or E Curry So what s I wass about to say. John, R I or E. Let's go for Rocca. Lly a bit of wine. Oh, lovely and then another one with I or E I'm guaranteeing myself last place. indigestion Quite a food item, and Johnny finally a food that goes well with rice that begins with the eggs. Eggs and rice. Yeah. notot quite fifty hard boiled eggs just next to the rice. You mean like egg fried rice of course. Egg fried rice. Exactly Perfect. It's lovely. I mean curry and egg fried rice. Oh, I mean you've got the dream meal John Not like Ryocca and igestion. Yeah. Yeah, you have a rriyocca on the side and then indigestion after it is the whole. Now, you've gone for curry and rice. What is your go to curry and what would you have with it in your orders? I like when I get a curry, I' a fan of getting a mix of different bits. Yeah, everyone get a couple of dishes and then you have a little bit of a few things A classic chicken tka masala for my like bland one is great. Yeah. I love a saag paner. Oh yes. I love a Bombllo. And then I always, no matter what, whatever the restaurant, whatever like it's like the chef's special or it's always something that's cooked with like you know a fragrant lime based vegetable from wherever or it's something If it's like a sweet and spicy dish or a sour and This I like getet one of them on. Get one of them. I like that. I like that attitude to be like, I don't normally get it. This is meant to be good. let's go for it. And a lot of bread. I'd go bread over rice. I'm a nad man. I've said it before. I'll say it again. Yeah. I prefer narn over rice as well. I would put rice as the third best thing to have with a curry. Narn is number one. Number two is chips re and chs, you can't go wrong with that. Yeah. Not on my watch. John, you're a Kurryan rice man, surely. I do love, I do like curry and rice. I like curry and nan as well. I like So what I've always done when I've gone to a restaurant normally is just work my way all around the menu. likeike I've had this last time. I'll go for this one, I'd add that, go to the next one, work my way all the way around. But curry houses, like historically, you can have the same dish in each one and that's how you would judge the relative quality of those restaurants That's how you do. I've never done that. I always work my way around a menu. My favourite, I would go like a lambu piazza or something like that. Although like you say, Johnny I quite like a chef's spepe. Have a look at what's on the chef's special list. I to go at some of them. Really enjoy that and love them sides. Absolutely. Oh yeah. gotot a bit sagaloo, you gota have a bit of I sorts of things, soon. Aaka dull, Yes, please. Yeah. Now not stray too far into other podcast territory, but I am not a popa Dom fan. I'd never orderem. Wh. The popa Dom is the same as the prawn cracker. I'll have it for free, but I'm not ordering. I love that. I like the side bits. I like the raw on you can slap on that, the little lime pickle, all of those things They're like turbo crisps. they're way better. Yeah, N not for a quiz. We've strayed away from quizzing here and we're just talking about food that we like. But hey, it was a food special. so was a food special? Maybe we are meant to do that. It would surprise no one listening to know that I was a kormaan for a long time. Oh I would only just kind of get that. But then as I've got older ve grown into liking spices a bit more and by older I mean, you know, thirties. and I've grown into liking spice a bit more. and I'm the same. I go for like a house special, whichever one kind of looks quite fun that you wouldn't normally get elsewhere. Quite like a lamb curry. So back to the rice accompaniment. So curry and rice is traditional but I think there could be better ones. I mean, indigestion is definitely not winning. That's not a food stuff. It was funny. If we were going back to what Alex said on the pod in his quiz giving away personality points, then that would be up there, but unfortunately not here. Roc Yes with rice. If it was just rice andriyocca, it would be a bit odd. Like you'd have to have something else with the rice. Paella. That's a rice dish, right? No, it's not a rice dish. This is just rice. So you've just got a bowl of rice and a Riyoca. I'm not sure that's what I want with my Yeah, that's not rice. That's not a combo of dreams, is it? That's very bland. So Curry is ahead of Rioa and in suggestion, but then E was what? Johnny? R remind me? Eggs to make egg fried rice. Oh yeah, egg to make egg fried rice, which I think is probably the best rice, isn't it? It's a good rice. I'm tempted to put egg as the winner over curry. Be did the same person come up with curry and egg? Yeah, it was all Johnny. I'm gonna say egg's the winner and people can argue with me if they want. Hit Jim in the comments for that nessis And if anyone does want to get me a chicken cormer in ships next time we're out, please do I' tell you what, I did have one more lined up as a quickie, which I didn't really like because I don't really know the food or like the food. So we'll see what you guys can come up with here. This time, John, you can go first and fourth, Johnny, you'll go second and third. yourour food item is tofu. So John, an accompiment that begins with either T O F or you. We've strayed into the horrible. I'm gonna get left with the you situation here. haven't It's going to be on Bongo. We all know that We all know it's gonna be our bunko. Fettuccini. It's the first thing I could think of. O, that might be quite nice actually. Johnny, an accompaniment that begins with T O or U. Toast. And then O or you, onion Friend of the pod, the onion. Yeah. Yeah. E though Alex literally had that last time. I could not think of another O. Well, this is what I did. In the main pod, I chose letters that didn't repeat themselves so that we couldn't have this exact situation. go on, John. you. have you got anything that isn't unbongo But I think the sensible choice to be fair, when you've had fetuccin, toast and onion, you need something to wash that down with. Let's go. Ubongo. Yes. I'm sure people listening at home will be able to think of hundreds of foods beginning with you. but none of us can think of anything Ullaish Upside down cake. Oh nice. yeah. Yeah, I really despise tofu to the point where I was working on a show called Saturday Kitchen, which is where chefs would come in and cook lots of food. and I was at the very start of my career, I was a runner, so I would go in in the ad break, get all the food utensils, wash them up and kind of bring them back I don't know why you had to do that and they didn't just have lots of utensils. We had to wash them in between all the tanks. But part of the perks of the job was taking home some of the food that was there. And there was a tofu curry that had been made by a Michelin star chef. Like this is the best tofu curry I'm probably ever gonna eat. And it was one of the worst things I've ever eaten. It was so disgusting. I took it home to my flatmates at the time I was like, look, I've got this Mitelin Dar style tofu curry. Theyve told me what to do to heat it up, I've got some sides, like let's have it as a kind of lunchtime thing and no one liked it. Oh no. Apologies to the tofu people. Yeah, there are tofu people out there, aren't there as well that we don't know to upset too much. And maybe they can tell there's the best accompaniment here. Yeah. I mean, if I'd had F I was gonna say fudge. Tofu and fudge, I guess. You could put it on toast. You put anything on toast. Let's call it toast fu Yes. Yeah, I don't think onion's the worst shout because you could just take a giant bite of the raw onion and then you eat the tofu and you can't taste how bland it is because you've got like onion in your mouth. What was that? Fetuccini I mean, I don't want any of them. I'm giving myself zero points. It's a full wipe out, but I think it's not your fault. I think it's Tofu's fault for being disgusted. Yeah Tfu. Oh and quickly before we go, I did have a tie brereaker just in case it ended in a draw. Oh come on. It's just a guess the year, seeee who's nearest here. In what year did the largest annual food fight La Tomatina start. So Tomatina is in Bunol near Valencia and it's where people throw tomatoes at each other. There's nearly forty tons of tomatoes thrown each year. It's a massive thing you've probably seen clips from it. What year did it start?? John, what have you gone for? I think it's the sort of thing that has been going on for years and years and years and I'm hoping it began in eighteen eighty seven Okay, and Johnny.one nineteen twenty one. Well, Johnny, you're closer. It's nineteen forty five. Wha! Later than both of you thought. I thought it was one of those things that's such a a tradition in each country. Yeah has been going on for approaching two centuries. If you'd have said fifteen hundreds, I wouldn't have been surprised, but yeah, apparently it started in nineteen forty five after children threw tomatoes during a religious parade. so it kind of happened by accident. and then they kind of recreated it Ye on year after that. In my quiz, Too Many Cooks Jim, Johnny Alex were trying to guess what meal the others were trying to describe using only one word clues, with the twist being that any Jeep look at clues were thrown in the food recycled As we're now playing with just Jim and Johnny, you' both going to be trying to guess the meals we didn't use on the main show using clues that my family have provided. Your family played this. Does that mean enemy of the pod John's wife? She did. Did she willingly play or did you force? I sort of did she was cooking and I just sort of dropped it into combo as we were going. What would be if you had to say one word To describe this meal, what word would you use to do this? Are you stealthily involved or you didn't say, Oh, I'm doing this quiz, can we do this? I like that. Great work. So there is a meal and I'm going to give you however many clues we manage to get out between us. And then if you don't get it, I'll give you the extra clues. Okay. so the first one, you've got four clues to play with, one from each of us You've got bread comfort, salt and orange. I think this one is proof that more clues doesn't equal better clues. Bread, salt, orange and comfort. Yeah, I've got an idea. I've got it. You've got it, Orangey bread? It is Dippy eggs and soldiers. It's not dippy eggs and soldiers Johnny, That's a great shall Salt though whereere does the salt come in? Like yeah, beans on toast would be bread and orange. But where's the salt? Beans on toast. Dippy eggs. Where are the beans? Who said anything about beans No, I just said it could beans on toast. I'm just saying there's another guess. Your guess was wrong, so I'm positing another answer, Johnny. Should we just all just keep saying the same answer? Is it Dippy Eggs, Job? It's not Dippy Eggs, Jim. Is it beads? Is it beads? it is. It's Beads on top. Oh! Oh is! You got it. Salt was a bit of a rogue one in there. Is that from your youngest daughter, Job? No, that was from my fourteen year old daughter. Her best clue was salt Beans on toast. Put a bit of cheese on your beans on toast, no problem, but not salt there. Johnny, where's my apology for you lambasting my beans? I wasn't lambasting your beans, it was just all of a sudden mid conversation you're talking about beans out of nowhere. I think weve found a new phrase for the show, Lambasting Y beans. Yeah
