The people with OPMar level of money are flying off in the best way possible. but we're about to review the twenty twenty six controversial end to the British Grand Prix. So let's go downstairs with myself Rob and Omar Safenau, two former on Legends in front of a live audience to bring you this week's episode of high Performance racing life for the silver stone I wonder whher drinking be while recording fuels the show. We're out to find out. It could be great. It could be a disaster Well I normally welcome you to high pererformance racing, but today I'm going to welcome the audience Thousands of people who've turned up to watch our recording. Good evening, everyone Give us a louder cheer than that because we're in a soundproof studio. C you see he that No, I can't it for I could hear it. I could hear it. We could. And we're very pleased you' all here with us. Look, welcome. For the first time ever we record a high performance racing show, not in our studio in Central London, but we do it here at Silverston after a hot and brilliant British Grandbrix. Cheers guys Let's just raise a quick glass to Ch Lelur the winner of the British Grand Prix. To Charles and Ferrari as you two predicted. Yeah did we? Oh no, you didn't. Cheers. Oh I never did. Ohma, who did you predict Let's see. George. Oh again much closer to winning than what you predicted. Yeah for the eighth time this season. You know, at least George actually finally got some luck today. I mean, we had George getting the luck that everyone thinks he hasn't had and we had Kimmy not getting the luck that everyone feels has been his calling card this season. Yeah, but George George got the luck. because he didn't pit under the safety card because they knew the FIA were going to knee jerk from what they did. in Abu Dhabi Hold on, you think Mercedes knew during Mercedes kn. Well, why didn't Ferrari know becausecause they pitted Lewis and Sham Yeah because they they weren't the recipients of what happened in Abu Dhabi that year You don't think they're making decisions now based on what happened five years. No, but they're making decisions based on their learnings and They were right They were right. The FI didn't restart that race had they restarted it and guess what George would have been overtaken by Lewis because he was on newer tires. I think George was on twenty one lap old hards I hope Lewis had new softs. I hope people are watching this on YouTube as well as just listening because you are leaning right into that mic like some sort of. Say again Why are you leaning so hard into the mic? What? Be Because we got an audience and look, they're struggling to hear us. Can you hear me See, you know why they can hear me? Be I'm leaning into the mic. Yeah. Now can you hear me? No. No, look, S, noope. they all said no they can't they're just doing it for effect. They can hear you. they just le to lean into the mic. he's like can't actually see you because he's like playing the game. Can we just say a big thanks by the way to the pop up hotel who've allowed us to record our podcast here. Wonderful. In their lovely surroundings. alsoso massive thanks to Optima onene, who've allowed us to use their beautiful studio This is like a studio on the back of a truck. I mean, as an engineer, you must love this. In many ways, it's better than the studio recorded in London I don't have those silly chairs They gave me a double chin Yeah, it's definitely the chairs that give you a double chin. Look, no more double chin He true, just the one Jin. Okay. So we're going to review what happened at the British Grand Prix. We're going to be talking about luck. We'll be talking about strategy calls. we'll be talking about what This race means for shoulder Clerk, please hit like, please hit follow, please hit, subscribe, please keep your nominations coming in as well for Bllshit Corner. We're going to be talking about bullshit Corner in a minute. and we've got a couple of people outside who've nominated a bullshit corner idea for us, which I think we might be using and we'll talk about that in the not too distant future, but Let's just go to what Oma said a minute ago about Mercedes taking their knowledge from twenty twenty one to not pit George Russell under the safety car at the end of the British Grand Prix, meant that George got second place. Do you think that there's merit in that thought from Opmar, Rob? Was it strategic or was it luck U No, I think that Omar may have been on the Heineken before he got to the to the podcast Um No, I'm drinking the Heineken in the podcast So I reckon that it was a gamble. Of course it was a gamble because they were they wanted to Everybody was going to pit because you got to pit because you got to get the soft tire on the car because they know it's going to be a two, three lap. sprint to the end George by not pitting takes a gamble that if he doesn't pit, He makes the places up that he did. And then if the safety car runs all the way to the end, which was a calculated gamble because of where Max parked his car then maybe they would finish the safety car. they would finish the race in the Zepka and they did. Um, so they go. U But I think I don't think that anybody, I think it was Mercedes took Quite a strong gamble rather than Ferrari got it really wrong So why do we think Ferrari pitted both their drivers? You can understand the decision to pitch Che Le cllay had a free pit stop. He could come in Put on fresh tyres, get back out and he'd been a great place to finish the race Lewis wasn't in that position but pitting in they were going to drop him behind George. Be you got because first of all, I don't think that Ferrari were expecting that George wouldn't pit. And George, don't forget George has the benefit of seeing what Lewis does, right? So that's always, you know, you can always look back at this with with twenty opposite Do the opposite. Do the opposite. there you go. How many times have we heard that? Yeah? Do the opposite of the car in front? And that's exactly what George did. So he had the benefit of being able to do that and then they take a risk. Let's just replay the race because it's always easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. We're even Monday morning.' Sunday night and we're quarterback in. What would have happened if the race would have gone off And with three laps to go. and George is on those old knacked tyires. George would have ended up where he started behind Lewis. Yeah they' right Well, possibly because where Llanda was behind and they knew behind. I mean they all had new softs on. Yeah. Yeah Yeah. So it could have been that George actually like cascaded down the order. but anyway, they go. that didn't happen and it paid off for Mercedes and you know what It's always the best feeling. Whenever you execute a race and you do what you expect to do You kind of finish the race. Oh my, you know this. You finish the you get to the end of the race and you go Oh well, that was good, but it didn't bring me any joy in my life, right? It's kind of like I did what I was supposed to do. When you when you nicke a lot of points like George did becausecause you take a gamble, it's always quite a feeling of glee, not only for your joy, but for the other people's misery. I think in fact, most of my career, I took more pleasure out of the misery inflicted on other people. Yeah, of course. The Mercedes will be loving the fact that Yeah yeah, yeah, the Ferrari got a little bit of misery and it was like, you know, they, they kind of did the right thing, but like, hey, it didn't come off Iyes take more joy out of F Cindia doing well than the misery of watchatch an Nest and where they are That is absolutely not fucking true at all. It's complete bulls. I tell you, this you know I met James Hunt's son today. Freddy. Freddy, Freddie Hunt And u Brother Mike wasasn't with him. Stop, stop Oh I knew that was I actually knew that was coming. And, no, that's not what I I just thought of it. but what I was what I was gonna to tell you you know, it' cousin Warick. R. I recounted what you said about about his dad in Murray And he knew it Honestly, he knew it. He knew the story. He knew the story. I actually I did I saw Freddy in the BIDC farm last night. And for those of that you weren't listening last time, so We spoke about the fact that his dad was Commentating on the Monaco Grand Prix, we actually have a legendary I didn't remember it was Monaco. I told him the story and he's the one who said to me ye that was Monaco. how I knew he was. his dad famous. he said bulls shit on the BBC. We actually have our own legendary commentator with us today sitting watching our podcast. Can we give a round of appause to James Allen? It was the guy that got me Int F one, when I was about watching it in the late nineties, early two thousand 's. It was a pleasure to share the grandstand with you today, watching the race, James. Thanks for coming down to watch out. And more importantly, his wife, Pip, because that's why he's here. Nothing to do with him. Yeah, yeah yeah. The wind beneath his wings, as always Could we just talk then briefly about this sense of wanting to leave another team? in a bad place compared to where you are. takeake us back to a moment in your F one career where you remember a time you made a call that worked for you but also caused a real carnage for of the opposition and you enjoyed that moment Oh, I don't know. I be on the spot in front of loads of people. Yeah exactly after Ive hadad a be it. I can't remember to be honest and maybe it was a bit tongue in cheek that like I enjoyed like causes other people misery. But I do think that Formula onene is a little bit like that, right? I mean, it's so competitive. And even though You know, o I know this. You've got mates and good mates in other teams But once you get to two o'clock on a Sunday afternoon as all you want to do is fuck him over, right? That's your reason for right. The bigger the night, the more you want to kill him. Yeah Yeah, exactly. And then and then and then by come like Monday, you've forgiven each other U and you can be pals again. So I don't know. I think I think ph one is just like that. It's so competitive. The stakes are so high. Um it's it's such high pressure That when you have somebody else over, it's just I don't know, it's a good feeling. And how will Ferrari be feeling on the opposite side? Well, I don't know. I mean, look, they won the race, right? Yeah. So there's two things. First of all, they had a very good car here, not quite at the same level as Kimmy in that Mercedes but they did have a very good car and they did manage to get back on track. So they had a great Barcelona. Austria was a little bit of a dip for them then they came back with what was a very good car here. you know, able to challenge right at the very front, which was great. Charles was I have to say hats off to Charles because we haven't said it yet, but he was in a class of his own. He did very, very well U and he was bited back Yeahounce back. Definitely bounce back. He was better than Louis. There's no doubt about that. He was quicker than Louis like yesterday afternoon and today Um, so they're not going to be too upset, you know, they're going to be upset because they wanted to be one two. But they are still one, three. and, you know, we mentioned this before, you know, many podcasts ago that all of the bad luck or arc of bad luck would kind of come Kimy's way and it has, right? You can't go through the season just having like good luck after good luck after good luck, right? A some point, things are going to turn and they have. you know, we've seen a few races now where Kimmy's had failures and stoppages and all the rest of it. And you can see now that even though it looked like an insurmountable like that he had on everybody after, you know, if we go about what is it four races ago? Even a time all of a sudden it's twenty what is it now? twenty od points? twenty five I think twenty five points. So, you know, Yeah Kim me on one hundred and seventy nine, George Ruschll on one hundred and fifty four, twenty five points, Lewis one hundred and forty seven and Che L Cler is now fourth on one hundred and eight. So Charl is still seventy one points behind. and I did tech she, didn't I during the race with a few laps to go, saying If Ferraria first and second, Chall first and Louis second, would you not flip the cars around? Are you happy for me to Say on the podcast what your reply was? G on. Whatever I said. So you said to me, I said Do Do you swop the cars for our Lewis and Charlles and you said they won't do it too controversial, but if they did, that would get Lewis to about a twenty one point deficit. Not sure it would be wouldould it be that controversial if you'd have had Ferrari first and second, you'd talk Lewis and Charl knowing Chharl is still pretty much out the title fight At this point in the season, yes. because you can't There's so many races left. You can't predict what's going to happen and you start manipulating now And you could be regretting it later So too early to do that stuff.. So I one hundred percent agree with that However, I am going go against my own gut feeling on this or my own sense of logic, not gut feeling, my own sense of logic and say I actually think Doing something as extreme as that is the only chance for Aa ever winning this world championship I think that if they kind of play drivers dririvers drivers. Yeah, yeah, drivers. So if they play the game of trying to outpace Mercedes in car terms, And then they play the game of allowing the drivers to race each other with such a big gap between Louis and Charles, I don't think that they've got the probability significantly diminishes for them to win the drivers World Championship. So I think that although like it goes against my logic, Omaz just said it, there's too many variables coming up. So why would you ever do it? But I think that is there one and only strategy that they've got of Lewis winning this worldld Championship. And you know what? Well and the contrary argument to that is Have a couple more. clerk wins And before you know, you're thinking Man, we should have never swapped them No because Leclerc is our best chance of winning, and that's the reason you don't. So you wouldn't do it. you're right. would You absolutely would not do it. It's too controversial. but I think that the points between Louis and Charles I don't forget Anne Lewis and Kimmy And Lewis and Kimmy which is the important one without kind of engineer in a situation where you get behind one driver and this wouldn't be the first time Ferrari have done it right? Ferrari been years Was in Lewis's car? Would he not have been pushing the team to to swap those cars in in this position. Yeah One word answer. Yes, C he would have been. And Look how many titles he won So I do think you have to I mean, Otmar is right that there's too many variables. there's too how many races are there to go now twelve. ty I love how we always ask ourselves questions on this podcast that none of us have an answer to How much has to go? What are the points totals? Wh's behind you It shows that we know the sport inside out, doesn't it? And we' prepared . I mean, it's it's hard to know because do you count this race as having gone, not gone is the u What? It's definitely gone because we've had it. It's over now. It is cab, but I saw it. have the FIA come out with the final results? Well yeah, Lewis was under investigation afterwards. again Yeah, the race is done. It's definitely done. It's done. avoidance of doubt. Okay. so now that this race is done and it's in the books All right, you tell me how many races left? I'd left to check Someone out there you should know how many races are left. James will know. two Now he thirirteen races So thirteen races to go The way that you flash your hands there, it looked like twenty three. I just w to put that out there. Now I don't know whether you're trying to have this fucking podcast over It looked like eighteen No, it's thirteen races to go Um And then a season where there was many twenty four races, that's pretty much halfway through You know, we're getting close So there's thirteen and how many have we had eight Yeah, because we missed two, didn't? Yeah Right let's do no more maths on this podcast because all three of us are not very good at maths Can we talk about one Wait a minute. four gone. I think two. Actually yeah. I forgot that you are actually quite going okay at that You're also pretty good at maths. So so. I got a D for GCSE maths Well, what did you get in the other ones? Oh that was the A levels. Eu. Yeah, that was what was it? An Eu? Eu boy? The Eu Eu boy. Yeah. You got an E in English. Yeah E in mind is the main thing that you have to use in your day to day like to make money. Yeah. Do you an E in that? An N for psychology. What's an N N's being N is nearly an E ' knelly a pass a pass Psyy. you don't really Oh you do know that because you're little bit high performance. Thank you. Yeah. Ininverted comments. and then are you for A level politics. Which informed one was always handy. I love it Yeah. So if you had done maths as an A level, it would have been an unu A U and U. Yes It would definitely have been an unu. Can we talk then a little bit about our Chae Leclerc This is his first race win since twenty twenty four. I mean, this is a guy that needed this win So badly. Yes, he inherited it, right in in a kind of a strange way It doesn't matter of the others inherit it. So you got toa give it to him How important and you've both been with drivers that have been to these lean spells How important do you think it is for him and his confidence and the rest of his season that he gets this? And you both said if he wins another couple of races Yeah. We might be saying he's the guy for the title, but he's won one race. Yeah and it was handed to him like you said. Yeah Had it not been handed to him, I think it would have been even more important for his confidence. He will know in the back of his mind, Kimmy should have won that race However, he'll be thinking, at least I beat my teammate. Yep That is the that is the number one thing that will be going through his head tonight that he beat You Lewis is more important than having won that race Yeah here. Totally. Fairren squaread. You read him He he can't beat another car that's faster than him and Kimmy, the combination of Kimmy and that Mercedes was just faster than him, right? So he can't do that, right? He's not he's not a god. But what he can do in equal machinery is beat his teammate and he did do that and did it at the first time. And he did it a long time to a teammate that's world Champion and beaten them this year beating him is resoundingly beaten for the last five races, something like that And teammate on his home turf who has all the energy of the British crowd behind him. So he's going to be pleased. One of the interesting things listening to the circuit commentary today was that you know, we're off the back of Kimmy Antonlli having had that kind of Sightly intense start at the last Grand Prix where was off you know three times in the first three corners, if you remember. The circuit commentator was saying today that there was an issue with his car, but he continued to drive the car almost like there wasn't an issue with it and then complained about the fact there was a problem. and they were talking about the fact that Is this Kimy kind of showing that he's young and he's a bit ineperienced that he kind of only knows the only way to drive an F one car is as fast as is humumanly possible. And if that was a a max or a Louis or someone else, then it may would have adjusted just down a little bit more. Yeah exactly whichich meant he ended up out of the points because he's sliding off and ends up with a five place five point penalty, five second penalty for for track limits. Could be. that could be all of, you know part of learning the sport, learning, you know, it's part of growing up for him in the sport. couldould very well be But I can tell you, Michael Schumacher was a genius at that bringing the car home. And Itidn't matter. I mean, there were races where you only had fifth gear left. And he brought the car home. He was really, really good. And there are some drivers that are good at that and others that I think need to learn. I'm not saying Kimmy isn't could be something that he's He's got to learn in the future. And once you do that, then that's another string in your bow that you need to win those world championships and I still think George is going to win it The worldld title Yes I've said that all along. You Well, you're nothing but consistent. You definitely saidally wrong. I'm now applying some white gloves Okay, gonna do not for a surgical procedure or anything alarming like that, but because I said there's a blood test for that now You just did mention the name. A and Cener. and Cener. I just wanted to mention that in our studio and if you're watching this on YouTube, you will see this. This is A race used, multiple race used A and Cenna helmet from the nineteen ninety two Formula One season worn by the man himself, raced by the man himself. I didn't know this because I've I always I always sort of thought about the fact that they earn only one once here at Silverston. in Formula One But you know that in across his entire career, he had more race wins at Silverson than any other driver Wh in other categories? Across all his categories, basically across his junior junior career. Yeah, apparently when he was a young driver coming through they Instead of silver stone, they used to call it silver stone with the A for A. I see, I love it How about that? I mean this is you having a little look at this before. I mean, that is I was. I don't know. We've all been around Fula onene a long time, some of us longer than others, but when you have Yeah, brilliant This You need the gloves Yeah. You do need a pair of gloves. You need the gloves So I worked at Honda. Is that or is there any Honda there? There is indeed There it is on the visor. So I was vice president of Honda racing. for Eight years Flex And I worked with a fellow by the name of Takio Kiyuchchi who was Arton Sen' race engineer from a power train perspective. He was a Honda race engineer. who worked with Senna. The gu that used to take you to Senna's grave whenever you went to. That's him But the thing that I wanted to tell you is that Senna, who really, really respected the Honda race engineers every time they raced in Suzuka would go to Kyuis san's house for dinner Really And Senate's girlfriend only spoke Portuguese Kuchichi's wife only spoke Japanese So for the two girls or two ladies to communicate Senna's girlfriend would say something in Portuguese to Senna who would then translate it into English to Kuchisan And Kyuchichian would then translate it into Japanese to his wife And then the answer would go back the other way From Japanese to Japanese, Japanese to English, English to Portuguese. Sounds like a. It took them about three hours to have a conversation that would take us five minutes That's how they did it. Oh my And they did it every year Those are long dinners, Rob. Yeah, I bet you wish, I bet you're glad you weren't there. Yes. Well, I'd actually, I've love to have beenin with that in Sena, if I'm being honest. Like cutean every year when we're raced in Brazil, Sena's grave. Love. I went with him. What do you think when you see utmost respect for Ar and Center from Honda? I think. so what I did was because if you look in sorry I'm using my hands and not the white gloves, but if you look inside you always see the mold of where the driver was sweating. So that's what I was looking for earlier and you can see all the mold from where his head Was in seeee all the green mold. Oh my gosh.? because they sweat in there and then it gets a bit moldy than the old helmets. So the helmets that I've got at home have all got All of that mold in there. whichich in some ways you look at and think, oh, but actually that's the provenence of the fact this is a genuine race worn helmet. It is the provenence Of all the helmets you've got at home, which one means the most to you Well, that one would mean the most if the owner ons Is the owner here? Can you just give us? I meanave you got three hundred grand.ave' you got three hundred grand? becausecause it is being auctioned off. I got three hundred grand. got three hundred quid. Some of the proceeds are going to the Nigel Mantle Youth charities, which is lovely, but Bud are auctioning this off. So if you've got I mean, I think he's probably got a spare three hundred grand knocking about Hain Madley Yeah, he definitely does because he sold all the Jeantud Kashmere sweaters that he kn. People love that story about the sweat. Yeah, but he sold them all because we said, Oh, bring him in. Oh yeah, I got him. Now they're all gone. And so he can definitely buy those. And if there is someone the man to my left does have a pawnamp for stealing things. He is a formula onecectoraniac, so I would keep an eye on this helmet in case it's not here when you come back I' going put that there But are we auctioning it for charity? We're not, but Bud Buds. Budsortunate for charities. right. O your forormula one collection If you've got a story about of the helmets've got,, you've got a shoeac Yes, yes. No way. How did you get that? I got Well he give me a youot like same same way everything. Same way he got Jean Todd's jumpers. Michael, do you need this helmet? I steal everything. give me it So what reason just because I'm a nice lad. Yeah. And then I've got some So I've got a I've got a really I've got the u I've got a really good U Philipppe Masaan as well that he gave me when he won his first ever grand No yeah, he won his first ever grand Prix and he gave me that helmet, which was nice And then I've got a lotad of others And I used to be Jon Colough,'s a Kill's race engineer in Jordan and he gave me one So when we won. so when So when we were at the two thousand and whatever Brazilian Grand Prix in the early two thousands, and we won that race with Jordan and I is that to race you on week later. Yeah, that that was the race you w a week later. And basically and I've probably still got this on CD somewhere. That wasn't the race where you won because The FI forged a a signature I don't remember any forged signature. There might be some for. I mean Jordan A Well, it's history There was a race where The steward that had to sign the timing sheet at the end wasasn't there Eddie knew it because he was on a flight Oh, no, no, no.'t know I don't know that one, but it was a different story. Let me getdd back straight and I'll tell you that story someere. Edd Edie Eddie had no idea. So so I was convinced. so I was a young lad and I was convinced we'd won the race. And and Eddie was doing his Irish jigg in the p Yeah that was because of the the cutback. And I said to Eddie Dude we wonning a race. And he was going, Who gives the fuck we' fucking second you fucker? And I was going, No we won't a race. I'm telling you we wont a race. And he was just saying, shut up you fucking n and fucking b. So he's dancing around. and anyway, when he'd finally on and sow it up on the Monday morning, I was like, Eddie, we won that race. I guarantee you we won that race on the countback And then that's when we went to Paris And and then I think it was Imola that give us the u They give us the race back and we had to do this really weird thing because Kimmy was the one on the podium on the Sunday And then we all went on the grid And Kimmy had to hand his trophy to Jan Carlo Formula one was a lot different then. So had to hand his trophy to Jian Carlo and then there was about four people around like clapping politely and saying very well done. So that was like the really like a bad way to win the race. But anyway, we did win the race and Eddie was very excited even though that we'd only been taken. anyyway, the reason why Jiang Carlo gave me the helmet was because before the race I said I think that these Bridgon tyres because we had these Bridgon tyres and I was convinced that they would run and run and run Ah for and especially when it got to the dry. And I was only a young lad and I was like kind of expounding this theory and everyone saying, well, that sounds like a lot of shit. Anyway, we did it in the race and I remember we put the there was like fifty laps to go and we put the intermediate on And I was said and we were eighth and eighth was really good at the time. And I said to Jan Carl, right, I think we should do it. U and Gary Anderson we chatted about it before as well And then and Jian Clo came back and he kept saying, No, but we're eighth. so we should stay out because we've got a point. And I was saying, yeah, but I think if we put this on and things have to fall our away, which they did We can win the race. this is the right time to do it. And the phrase he used was, Okay, I will do it. But if it's not like you say, we are fucked, okay And I said, Fair play. Let's try it then. U And we did and we won the race So give me the helmet afterwards. I found the story about Eddie Jordan. So, u It was a fake Scotland yard threat Basically, Eddie thought that Janna Truli was unjustly disqualified from the two thousand one US Grand Prix Indianapolis So we took up with the FIA International Court of Appeal Um basically what he said was One of the stewards whose signature appeared on the bulletin Eddie got anonymous tip off that that steward wasn't there during the race weekend. Tld you? As a result, he created this is so EJ, right? As a result, EJ created a fake story of having to go to the forensic department to investigate the signatures himself at Scotland Yard. That true Um He said he went to see Max Mosley Mac said to him, Eddie, you're being silly, this is never going to work. Why are you bringing this to us here in Paris? And Jeoran explained He said, Listen, Max, you will notice on your desk tomorrow morning from our lawyers a subpoena request for a certain person. Eddie then said he went to Scotland Yard to have the signatures officially investigated He said, I've had to go to the forensic department of Scotland Yard Wit I mean shock horror when E JJ's involved was an absolute le. But apparently Maxmos is swallowed Maxmose swallowed what Eddie said Jordan so therefore he was basically able to prove that the steward who was not present for the racekend in Indiana had his signature on the bulletin His team were able to win the case in court but didn't present any other evidence that led to Trulie's disqualification from the race. It was the first time that any team won a case against the FAA in court appeals And to this day Eddie Jordan is very proud of that fact, I would imagine How about that So it wasn't when you won in No Brazil. This is truly. Yeah As a result, Trulie was reinstated the fourth position. It's mad that, isn't it Why would whyy would you have to go to Scotland Yard? Be you're making it up. But sound But he was right Yeahound It sounds a bit more believable But he was right. Right, it's time to make some entries to Bllshit Corner. I spoke to a couple of fans here at Silversston straight after the race and their nomination for Bllshit they are. hand. They're not le. I want to know their names Let me guess I think they're called Sarah and Bethany and Janine. Bethany Yeah Sarah and Bethany W Was all right? And Bethany and Maria what did you say? Sarah and Bethany. So we were right. Yeah We were absolutely right. It was Sarah and Bethany. Thanks Sarah and Bethany. No, it was Maria and Chavvonne. And they said their nomination for bullshit cororner is the fact that here at Silverston, we didn't get a final lap of the race. So I'm sure you're all watching, listen to this at home, but we were in a position where we thought there was going to be a last upp. I agree You know what you do in that situation? as well as in twenty twenty one Red flag it for the fans withith five blaps to go With five lams to go, everyveryone put soft tires on sprint to the end. you got a great end, reedd flag it. And the other thing it does pretty good shot. it extends a race a little bit. Everyone gets to have a drink, go out, you sell a bit more Heinekinens You know, some more peanuts or whatever you're having Everyone comes in the pit lane. you red flag it, Kimmy Aonlli got to fix his car So you wouldn't have finished outside the points. justust red flag it. shouldhould have done it twice I don't know what why they're so reticent in doing that. To me, that's the most fair thing. Let's just go through what the regulations of the sports say about why we didn't get a final lap because you know The FA aren't hiding anything here, right? The regulations are clear, right, Otmar? Yeah, they are. Do youan to explain them for people? So Article B five thirteen point five states that one lap must be completed following the unlapping procedure This This was followed by race operations Right? So they let everybody unlap themselves And then you need an entire lab before you can restart the race. Well, when they started unlapping themselves, There wasn't an entire lap leftugh So they had to finish under the safety car. That's why It was always really going be under the safety car, wasn't it? It was always going to be under the safety car And that's why I say If Mercedes I think Rob's right. They probably just did the opposite But if they thought this is going to end under the safety car, keepe George out there because he gains a position But if you think Red flag. You don't have to think red flag. If they red flag get won, you get more laps becauseuse you're not doing a bunch of laps under the safety car two everyone gets to put soft tires on and then you have a sprint to the end. Yeah For me from a me perspective, that's what you do. It's a mega show. and in fact, if we were still in the F one commission or teeam principals commission or we would tell them. Yeah, we could go and do exactly that. I think's I think that's right. I think I'm gonna tell them anyway I think that well we can turn, but I mean it's whether or not it means anything now Well I think that is a mega shout. I think you should get to a certain point and not rob the fans. getet to a certain point where there's a safety car You have to make a judgment call if it's going to be like, you know, there's five laps to go and it's going to be three laps to to clear the the accident or whatever or fix the barriers. Yeah, Red flag and Red flag it, fix the barrier, do whatever you have to and then save it for the fans And not to mention it's a little bit more fair as well what I love about working with you Otmar? Nothing is no loads of things is that I saw Rtmar outside and I said, what happened at the final lab? I thought it was a nonsense man. I thought the they're going to get the race going again and he goes, I don't know Let me just call the FIA Let me just call the FIA. I did call the FIA. I talked to Nicholas and you know, I thought what Nicholas told me was the reason that they did it. For sure, the FI follow the current rules But it is in their not their gift, but it you know, they have the pt to red flag it. They could have easily red flagg that race. And you know, when I told him that, he said, Rd flag it for that? I said, no, red flag it for the fans. And if you red flag it for the fans, you're doing nothing that contravenes the rules So there is a point where if you want to make it exciting at the end And you want to follow the rules, which you should, unlike in twenty twenty one, red flag it And you two get to go to a lot of races each year. I don't. And by the way, congratulations on a couple of podiums this weekend for Ra Villa Gomez. W bigig shout out. He was brilliant today. started eighth in the feature race in F two finished second Oly It's really hard for me to I mean, I as I got Safnower is last name. I should be able to understand and say it, but Solov? It's all off. Yeah. Nicola's all off. Nicola it's all off, it He was quicker even in the middle stint But Rafa went from eighth The second came out after his pit stop in seventh on better tires. He was on soft. Everyone else was on hard, overtook six love He was really good today. You'll be able to say the him so off next season because I think there's an extremely strong chance he'll be in a racing ball car next season. But the reason why I mentioned me not being at the races often is that this is the first quest who leve in racing balls if the is coming. Aarently Lilliam Lawon, but he's driving really well at can nonsense. Yeah. and can Lawson go back to F two No, no U I went for Fulo one F two Yeah, I can't e N ever Yeah, that's a reserve only for special people do you mean by special? You? U you ye It's the first race I've been to and I'll give you and you guys were obviously here as well so you all have felt this It was actually a brilliant grandrix I think it's a grandrix for the ages. There was loads of stuff going on. You've got, you know, Kimmy's car breaking down, you've got Lewis battling that wonderful moment we had Lewis and George Russell, Max Verstappen, the three of them, lap after lap after lap battling against each other. It was brilliant And then we get this safety c at the end and I was up in the BRDC clubhouse. so you got the huge grandsam on the outside of the corner there And when they said saafety car is coming in this lap And it came up on the big zero excited hole The whole circuit lifted at that point. it's like You're ex excited for one last lap. And then how excited would you for four more laps abbsolutely. But almost red flaged. It's true. But once they were in the safety car situation And I know this is different maybe for people at home, but I still think they'd have been frustrated to then tell the global audience at home and the thousands of people at the circuit, are you're going to get a lap of racing here. And ss like because I I actually know you're not. wasn't even. But you know why they did that did it to piss off Mercedes thinking. We screwed up keeping George out Do you think? I just feel like the race ended. It was a brilliant grand Prix and the feeling here at the circuit was like, oh That was a bit of a flat ending. everyveryone kind of trudged out of the grandstands or trudged out. and it's like there should there. There's an amazing grandbrix. Should they give fifty percent of the money back for every Gnd Prix where it finishes on your safety car. No I don't know. They would have no money Please keep your nominations so they may have to v. Bullshit corner. We love hearing from you. this show without I agree with that. What? keepeep your nominations coming in. No, I agree with yourourself No Bethany and What was her name Esmmerlda. Esmerelda saying Yeah. That ending in bullshit corner. Yeah, totally agree. So Yeah, okay. So the ending to the twenty twenty six British Grand Prix belongs in bullshit corner. By the way, while you two been droning on about something which I've kind of wheted out a bit about. Bethany and Marie left. Yeah they did They got on the bus and fked off, so they obviously weren't that impressed th. I always think that's when you know one of your first ever live formulon podcast He's just going really well when people get up and leave halfway halfway through and just. but this is the first time we've had a live audience. and it's great for the ego th. It has dwindled a bit Yeah, we started off with about eight people and we're now down to three. And all three of our wives are here. Tod they Dwindle down or whittittle down both Okay both. I'll stillill get into grips with the English language 's a challenge. It is a challenge. Dwindle. I think they dwindle, right? You can whickle them down or they theyle of their own. So does the audience itself here is we we here down. Here's a host who got an E in English. Yeah trying to tell me. The difference between whiddittle and dwindle. What is the difference I don't know, you' got the E in English I think the difference between whittittlele and dwindle is it whles itself and if it we dw, no no. You whle. It dwindles. Yeah. I think that's right. I think the audience is doinging better Amer is in a minute. L look at him,' just w to fuck off. and I'm not surprised I know it J' be look at me and me have been paid. Yeah, that's how it's English. English is my second language. That's why I know it so well. get. The primary difference is that Whittittle implies an active deliberate effort to reduce something bit by bit. Yeah there they go. Wh Dwindle refers to a natural or passive shrinking or fading process is exactly right. I think both are happening Exactly. J Jake is Whittling the audience. And you're dwindling the other word dwindling it And the audience is dwindling itself Another nomination for bullshit Corner. and again, is this nothing without you nominating them, so please do The constant over the top changing of ar liveries has been mentioned four or five times. spepecial liveries, special merch, special helmets, Disney Le LE WFE nominated that this weekend obviously, it's McLaren. I have to say it was weird. Mercedes Yeah, but it wasn't so different Noent. like McLaren had gone from that papaya to a white car. It was a weird decision. Did you see the Mercedes team kit? No, bright blue I walked into the Mercedes motor homeome and do you remember last time they all wore later hosen in Germany? Yes. they had a complete disaster of They did Yeah. And I walked in and talked to some people and I said, oh, I really like the blue, but I hope It's not a repeat of when you wore the later hosen And it wasn't far off It wasn't again G Georgeuck you to finished second. Kimmy Should have won the race. Yeah finished what fourteent? It wasn't quite It wasn't quite as bad as the late. I think ye, exactly because it wasn't though far removed from the The later Ozen A is seventy seven the same says Rob Omar could nominate any corner on the current Formula one Canada To be thrown into bullshit corner. corner wouldould they like to nominate Flat out corners because they're not corners. And you just like when you're an engineer and you're looking at the map and you go, well I What was it like in turn two? And then You have to say, oh, what was it like in turn six because turns three, four and five corners they' flat Yeah. So I would I would Sounds like you guys have interesting conversations. We do have an interesting conversations. I would force all of the circuit Owners So make a straight line between actual corners And if they couldn't do that, Yeah, I would say to them, I'm sorry But there's you have no place on the Formula One calendar. Get out of my office if I was Stefano Dominic Cari, I probably wouldn't be that like extreme Yeah in my in my thinking. I like the I don't know. mayaybe I would be. mayaybe I would be. mayaybe I would be like that, but I like the idea. maybe got to see. So yeah. Okay corner just just remove it as a corner You don't call it a cornerom. What then then the race engineers they always want to call like a kink in the map a corner Yeah. What would you go for lotma I can't think of one I totally agree with Rob Um That's absolutely right. But I can't think of a like a real corner, I would say. It's corner It's bullshit. Oh, I'd tell you, O Rouge Now I like O rge Yeah, but it's too easy now. Yeah, but have you ever stood at the bottom of erosion stuck your head out. unbelievable. Yeah. And you need that You need that It was to I took my son Finlay. I think he was about sixty and he's only come to a couple races and one of his friends, and we went to the bottom of A Rouge And there's a little gap in the fence And I said, boys, stick your head out and watch your car go by. You're gonna do it for one again or every regulation in Formula one. And I said no survive your That's it. So if you survive, I'm proud of you and if you don't, it's your own silly fault for doing it was. You know, my fear was that something flies off the car and hits see you, you're done. But we did it, I did it. well worth the risk, I think, isn't it? For the th. They still talk about it to this day Uh, But you know long before America was Finn's mom never knew. So long before America was in the sky. I could imagine that would have been a problem for your wifes Beck Finn. You know how they used to des Who is in your phone as Finn's mom, by the way. Can we just tell to the audience. Bebecca, his wife. kind of is in his phone as Finn's mom You know, I really I wanted it and I didn't manage it. And in some ways, it's great, but I wanted to give each one of my children the best gift that they've ever had. and that was to give them each your own mother Iress fuck And I screwed up. They all have one mom and that's Rebecca. That was my objective and I didn't achieve it. anyyway, in some ways, it's great in many ways Hi, Rebeccca. I Hope you're enjoying this week's episode of High Performance Race So moving on. It's a good nomination, isn't it for bullshit corner Otmar's love life? It Yeah, it's notice It didn't quite work out. M's requirement to father kids with multiple women goes into bullshit corner. Totally screwed up. All three of them, Rebecca. Wonderful mom. This is one of those momments where we get a text from what Mart tonight going, That being about wanting to have multiple women father mia. C you take that out the episode? I didn't say that. It's just selfish. They got a share. seelf was Rebecca mother all of your children. Wh another one. Jesus specca. Thank you very much for your Borts Cord and nominations. We've almost come to the end of today's show. Please do keep on liking, subscribing, sharing this episode with various people. We can't wrap up though without some dad jokes You know, it's actually depressing that YouTube had such a great formula one careers. I had a very average one and all people have spoken to me about today here at Silverston is I love the dad jokes on your podcast Where are you going Robert? Hes just left. He needs to get a dead joke. Oh my Godd. Sh Shall I start then U What do you call What do you call a woman who sets fire to lots of bills Bernadette. That went down well in here and with the crowd outside. I it M You get it, Burnardad S again,? Becauseuse I was looking at my diary for tomorrow b. I just wanted to make sure I was ahead of everything I needed to do. Let's just imagine womt said this already. Hey, what'd you call a woman who sets fire to lots of bills Burneret. Oh knew it you he it. You'd already heard that one, so that's fine. Whatm? I heard the Burn of deit bit So this is yeah, not a drawn out story like Oh I't know ha a This very quick How do you make an artichoke? T know how you make an artichoke? You strangle it I'm going to have my spine removed next week. Did you know this Yeah, yeah. didid you know not have my spine removed next week Really? Yeah, it's only holding me back So So talking about hospitals and medical stuff. Who was talking about hospitals and medical? You were just talking about it because you said some about backs and spines and stuff. Yeah. So that kind of moved me on So On Friday I was supposed to come to the well, actually on Thursday, I came to the Grand Prix and then I did something for free for write formula for James Allen who sat outside here brazen as you like. absolutely no fucking shame whatsoever after asking me to do it for free. D anyway. Dgraceful. Anyway, I did it and then I couldn't come on Friday. I was meant to come on Friday, but I had a medical emergency Because I accidentally drank some invisible ink And I was sat in the waiting room Waiting for the doctors to see me for about eight hours Is Waiting thector wasn't you? Waiting the doctors to see me. They couldn't see me they drank the invisible in Yeah Yeah for eight hours. All right, yeah. so they go. So my fellow podcast host Get it. amazing. I actually have a friend in hospital at theent. Right? He bought a new cat and he got very viciously attacked by the cat His name is Claude. Are we done Well I remember Rember our days at university and I used to study in the library Yeah Beautiful blonde woman came in and she walked up to the librarian who was at the front desk and said Can I please have a big Mac a large fry and a chocolate shake And the librarian looked at her and said, excuse me. This is the library said, ooh, sorry And a chocolate shake Very good. Right, that pretty much brings us to the end of today's show Was that good for you? Yeah, yeah, it was great. It was definitely worth hanging aroundound for. you. We're always trying to miss the traffic any. Do Do either of you think it changes anything in terms of the worldld title? Of course, Kimmy not scoring today was a big deal. George was in the points, but the man that won the race was a man who was so far behind already. What do you think? Listen, it just teaches you you can't predict the future There you know one. And we wouldn't have been able to predict this outcome. Even after the Srint race, I did a little talk And u club. Did you get paid for that U notot yet, I hope they pay me. fingers crossed. And anyway and I u I was in with F one experiences Really, really good. They had the screen they had the timing screens up I spent some time with Keith Bruce. You know what we should do? Who's Keith Bruce? He's the president of F one Experiences. He runs the planing club. basically, you're just cking for work at this point. Rs No, but what we should be doing is plugging him so that They sponsor this podcast. Oh, Keith Bruce have what experience is I love that guy. Oh my god, he's such a cool gu. Anyway, I couldn't have predict even after the Sprint race what happened. Yeah U, and it just goes to show you it don't know what the future holds. We don't know who's going to win it. and L may it continue for for the good of the sport and for the good of the Abu Dhabi rice at the end of the year if we go there And it looks like hopefully we will be I think it's true. It was a good race. It could have been a great race with the red flag, but with a red flag. Listen to Omar, Rd flag it Yeahep, yeah, yeah, yeah. There you go. Anything else to add? No, I just say I mean one hundred percent down with opm, we've been saying on, you know, you listen to a load of narrative after every Grand Prix and it's always, o wow, you know, let's just kind of you know, Kimy' this many points ahead and it's going to be impossible for anyone to catch him up. And we keep saying because we're too like we're a bunch of old Laguards who've been in the sport and seen it forever. Like, no, just wait. You'll never predict the future. Sit wait and see what happens the next Grand Prix You know, bad luck like swings and comes in, you know, ebbs and flows and there you go. now we've got like a world challenger back on between some someomebody pointed out to me today. I don't know if it's true or not because I didn't look it up, but I assume repeat it anyway. Of course. But I got to repeat it with that caveat. I don know if it's true because it might be illegal Last year at Silverstone. Stopen was one hundred and three points behind the leader This year at Silverstone Verstaopppen was one hundred and three points behind the leader There you go.
