You may think you know what a power ballad sounds like. Usually it's something based in rock. But that definition is actually too limiting. Power ballads have roots in earlier forms of rock and soul balladry, as far back as the fifties and sixties The modern history of the power ballads starts around the nineteen seventies, and there were not only rock power ballads, but also soul and even pop power ballads. surprise Its peak happened in the nineteen eighties, fueled by heavy metal and hair metal but not exclusively.
