Last looks hit the theme . Last looks all Jason Last looks just do your thing last looks better Hello all my loosey beauties, it's me, Paul Shear, your host and skydiving instructor, and welcome to How Did This Get Made Last Looks. Ah, I love being back here with you because this is your chance to get your voice heard on all the issues that you have with Drop Zone Movie, the Discord user hotline thinks should have had the tagline drop zone parachute first ask questions later thank you hotline for that alt tagline now a big shout out to the Midwest Shakespeare's opening theme song. I loved it. You guys rule. Remember, if you want me to thank you, like I just did for Hotline and Midwest Shakespeare it's very easy. You just have to give us something. And that could be your talent, your time, or a combination of both. Because if you have an alt movie tagline, you could submit it to us on our Discord at discord.gg slash HDTGM. Uh let's see. Let's see what you got. And if you are more inclined to write a song, well, we would love to hear it as long as they are short, 15 to 20 seconds is best, but it's very easy to submit. All you have to do is go to our homepage, hdtgm.com, click the submit a song button, and you're done. It's there. And we will pick it. We will use it. We want to use it. Just like I said, keep them short. And I would be thanking you. I'll be saying your name right here at the top of the episode. That's prime real estate. All right, coming up on today's episode, we will be hearing all of your corrections and omissions on drop zone. And believe me, there are a lot. Plus, Jason will join me for a supersized just chat where we break down the summer movies that we're really excited about. Plus, I revealed to Jason the four new fast and furious TV shows in development, or what we know of those four shows, as well as Jason and I talk ing music. That's right. We have so much to get off our chest. I cannot wait for you to listen to us chat. Now, uh, as always, I will reveal the movie for next week's episode. But there's a couple things I need to tell you about. As you all are aware, Avril Halley passed earlier this year, and we have been trying to find a way to properly memorialize her beyond just talking about how amazing she was to the show, we wanted to create something to actually give back. So we created this shirt uh based on a design used at her memorial where a hundred percent of the proceeds from the shirt, sticker , mug, whatever you want to do with this design, will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Averill's memory. All you have to do to purchase this is go to our merch link on hdtgm.com . And like I said, the design is absolutely beautiful and you can put it on anything at all. Uh it's a beautiful way to remember her, but also to give back uh to such an amazing organization. Um , June is in mating season, which is out now on Netflix. I believe Jason makes a little bit of a guest appearance in that show as well. It's a brand new show from our friend Nick Kroll. It's hilarious. Uh, and it is, you know, for fans of Big Mouth, you are going to absolutely love this show. It is a plus plus. Zach Woods is in it. Sabrina Jelials is in it. It's really, really great. Also, if you're on Netflix, check out Black Monday, June, myself. Uh, so many people in Black Monday. Uh, so happy that it's out there and people are finally catching it for the very first time. Don Cheadle, Andrew Reynolds, Regina Hall, me, Casey W ilson, so many great people. Now, our next live show at Largo in LA is sold out, but don't worry, we've announced the movie online. And if you want to come out and see Jason and I uh in Los Angeles. You still can do that on June 26th. Dinosaur Improv will be at Largo. Now, the big news is this : Del Close Marathon is coming up. Now, what is the Del Close Marathon? Well, Jason and I started improvising at UCB Theater back in the day. This is where our home base. And we are doing a slew of shows. And guess what? You're maybe like, well, Paul I don't live in New York, don't worry about it. These shows are also live streaming, and we are doing a 10-year anniversary of one man's trash. That's right, the Chris Gethard Dumpster Show, 10-year anniversary , okay? Uh, we also are gonna be performing with Dinosaur out there, Match Game 76, bringing back this classic show that if you don't know about Match Game 76, is a show that I have been doing forever since the very first Del Close Marathon. It is a bunch of insane people on stage. Well, I would say it's a bunch of hilarious people on stage in one of the most insane shows ever. And I actually have stopped the live stream for that, but make sure if you're in New York, you come check out Match Game as well as the George Lucas Talk Show, uh soundtrack, which Jason is in. Uh there uh there's an Az cat. There's so many shows. Uh, they are all listed on my website, PaulShear.com. But I cannot wait to see you all out there in New York. Jason and I are pumped. All right. Now that is all the plugs that I got for you today. So let's get into it. Last week we talked at length about drop zone. Uh well, we had questions, and we might have even missed a few things. Here is your chance to set us straight. Fact check us if you will. It is now time for corrections and omissions . Setting from fiction in a whirl of contradictions, digging up the ugly truth is our state admission. Sorting through the stinking pile of rubber self resistance, we're still the bar we like to call corrections and omissions . Thank you, Casey Campbell, for that theme song. Let's start with some phone calls. First up, Sylvia from home of the drop zone. That's right, she's calling from Washington, DC. Hi, Paul and Jason. This is Sylvia calling with no mission from drop zone. So I'm not gonna talk about the ridiculous idea of skydiving in DC or that the drop zone that they identify of Potomac Park is actually in Virginia. Instead, I want to focus on the dead bodies. The reason that the authorities think that the hijackers didn't make it off the plane is because they found extra un identified bodies. Where did those bodies come from? Who are they? Did the hijackers kill random people? Did they rob a morgue? When did they have the opportunity to place dead bodies in the plane, which would then be seen as the bodies of the hijackers. There's just no explanation or discussion given to this. And it seems like a large hole. All right. Love you guys. Thanks. Bye. Well, Sylvia, good question. Here's my uh question back to you. Hmm. Okay, so they found extra bodies. Well, I guess they may have just found the right amount of bodies, but that also wouldn't account for the fact that they didn't find the body of the prisoner, they only found his thumb, and then I would go one step further and say that the amount of time that it would take to actually find and identify all the bodies would be so long. That wouldn't be just like something that you do very quickly off a manifest, like an hour afterwards. Uh because it seemed like people were getting sucked out of the plane. Yes, there are issues here. I think that they just believe that the high I look, you're right, but I believe what they're saying is the hijackers' plan was interrupted. They weren't thinking about the skydiving element. They were like, oh, they're gonna hijack a plane and land it. Little did they know they were gonna hijack a plane and then skydive out of it. I mean, clearly these people have never heard of DB Cooper . So I think that is the rub. But to your point, I don't know if they put extra bodies in, but because they've lost a lot of bodies too. And how would they know which one they lost? Because they were just passengers. It makes no sense. Sylvia, thank you for bringing this up and I love that uh Potomac Park is in Virginia. Next caller, Greg from Montana. Hey, Paul. Uh as a firefighter and paramedic, I thought I'd address a couple of things that came up in the the episode of Drop zone. You guys are right. Totally not acceptable that EMS wasn't the first on scene when that guy's shoot failed. I mean that's that's exactly what's going to happen in the real world. EMS is going to be the first ones on scene. They're probably going to be the first ones to drop them out of the water. None of that was realistic. Um second of all, uh hey I hate to tell you this, but you're not riding at the back of my ambulance. Uh unless your kid is being transported and your presence will help . That's about the only reason you're gonna be in the back of my ambulance with me. I don't care if they're family, I don't care if they're your best friend or whatever. I got stuff to do and you're in my way. You need to get out. That's a movie trope that needs to go away. And lastly, uh, I'll say that I I buy the the bell ceremony that they have for their fallen comrade. You know, people who do dangerous work, there's a kinship, and you you honor the people who do who pass doing that dangerous work . Even if you don't know them sometimes, even if you don't like them. You pa you honor their passing. So, you know, that kind of a ceremony. Yeah, I buy that. That totally makes sense. So I don't know. Hope it helps. Great episode. Love you guys. Greg, you sound like a straight fucking shooter, and I appreciate this call. And I'm not saying number one, just wanted to make sure that you know, I'm not saying that people should ride in the back of an ambulance. I definitely am not do your job . But the anger at which that man was yelling at these people who were clearly grieving, I mean, look, I'll I'll go one step further, Greg, and I'll say he shouldn't have let him that far into the ambulance. I don't think you would have done that. I I had no problem with them being kicked out, but the level of anger seemed to be uh too large. Uh and then I I know, I don't know if we made fun of the bell ringing. It just felt like um I mean look, that's very much uh a traditional thing. I I just felt like it wasn't really uh a ceremony. It just kind of felt like I don't know if people were there mourning. It kind of felt like, oh shit, right, ring the bell. Like I get that in different scenarios. It just felt like that was in the middle of a night, a night out. Uh but thank you, Greg. I appreciate all that you do and thank you for your service. All right, next up, Jake from Peoria , Illinois. Hi, this is Jake. This question is about the character of Sally, the young guy that's part of the group. Why do you think they didn't just have him die? Uh, you know, w when he had that awful accident I I assumed that he was going to die and they would all feel like the stakes were getting higher. I was really surprised that they like I don't really understand why they had him live unless it was supposedly for like a sequel or something. Anyway, that's my question. And then with regards to extreme movies, you should cover on the show, Vertical Limit, Chris O'Donnell, Scott Glenn, rock climbing movie from 2000, is just it's a classic. Yeah. I mean, why are we doing this? It's not a kid's movie. We don't need it to like come back in a sequel. I think that whenever you kill a main character, it's hard to kind of like laugh at the end, like that final moment in the movie is like, ha ha, yeah. You know, so I I feel like they couldn't really do it. Uh and it's a cheat. Absolutely. The all the good guys have to win. You know, and I think that when you go to like a movie like Speed and Jeff Daniels eats it in the beginning, uh, you know, you can have that, which is like, oh, we barely knew him . Um, but you can't like live a whole movie and then kill somebody. And this time in action movies, you know, I mean, like maybe Predator is the the example that kind of transcends it, but that's even earlier. I I I think you're right. It's a cheat. He should have died. It would have been better. And I love this recommendation of vertical limit. We're getting a lot of great recommendations. Scott is going through them right now. Uh and let's uh go to Matt from Richmond, Virginia. Hey, Jason, Paul, and June. This is Matt. Just finished listening to the drop zone episode, and I wanted to bring something to everyone's attention as a correction. The reason why Wesley Snipes doesn't have his car midway through is because he sold it because uh Yancy Butler's character uh says she needs like fifteen thousand dollars in her own plane. And so that's why he holds up that wad of cash when she's like, What happened to your car? But anyway, great show, great work. it Keep up, and thanks. Okay . It makes sense. This mov ie works. Thank you, Matt, for listening very closely. Did not understand that. Uh and I feel like it could have probably used another another line in there to just uh well I guess not. Who cares? Uh I just thought he had that money. I thought like he got that from the government. But he wasn't working for the government. So of course, Matt, you watched the movie the right way thank you Matt and again it's probably because you are connected to this as uh as a resident of Richmond Virginia all right and next up is Keatron hi Paul just wanted to give a call for the first time, even though I've been listening to y'all for however long y'all have been doing it. Um, I just wanted to give a little context about the movie Drop Zone, which I just listened to. Um I actually was sort of tangentially involved in the kind of skydiver subculture because in high school I was best friends with a fourth generation skydiver. Um, and so I would go to the drop zone with her and her family. And uh here's what I'll say: as someone who spent a lot of time on drop zones, um, I've never been skydiving. Um it's not really something where you want to see how this sausage is made. Um, you know, it's kind of a lawless culture uh and becomes even more lawless once that beer sign gets flipped on at five o'clock and those are the same people packing your parachute the next morning. Um so yes, there is kind of an entire subculture. There are teams, there are sports, um, and ever yone has a little bit of a death wish. All the respect in the world to that entire lifestyle, met a lot of cool people, but it's uh it's not for me. So yeah, that's a little bit about the skydiving subculture that I found myself a part of. Whoa . Wow . Whoa . Yao . This , you whoa, you blew my mind. I have nothing to say, but wow. I love this. I love the sons of anarchy nature of this world. I kind of wanted more of that. I feel like we got that in the Gary Bucy world, but I don't feel like we really got that. I mean, I guess it was a little bit here and there. I love it. I'm in. Uh, you killed it. I have nothing to say more than like thank you for sharing. So cool. I want to hear more about it, honestly. And I also just want to say thank you to everybody who is using our brand new voice mailbox. You all sound great. This is uh the new thing that we've been doing. It's speakpipe.com slash hdtgm and it's easy because you don't have to call a number anymore. You have to do is just go to speakpipe.com slash hdtgm and you can record on your phone, you can record a computer, whatever you do. We just love it. And we're getting so many more calls because it's easier. And I'm so mad that it took us so long to do this. Anyway, um look, the reason why we can't include all the calls, by the way, is because we need to show some love to our Discord now too. But now that the calls are taking over, who knows? You know, we'll go back and forth. Anyway, uh we're gonna get to the Discord's comments because they are quite intense in just a moment, right after this. Get paired with our newest fleet yet at Hertz.com. Alright, it is now time to hear from our Discord Brownie Wrights to answer June's question about whether skydiving has competitions, yes, they do. We have world championships every two years and nationals yearly. We have competitions for formation, speed, artistic, and accuracy to name a few. Also, moving around and free-for all is very easy, and yes, you can speed up and slow down to catch up with others within reason. And for the formation diving, we have a camera flyer that jumps with us to film how the formation appears from above. Ground to air judging was on its way out in the 80s. Thank you, Brownie. All right. I I I believe that that that was the one part of the movie that I had no problem uh believing. Uh Dr. Guts 1003 writes, at the end of the film, Wesley Snipes knows the building that Garrett Bucey and his team are going to attack, so why not alert the people in the building ahead of time and have them bring extra security? Well, doctor Gutz, because Wesley was not working for any government organization. He was just a layperson. And I guess, you know, you can't call in those calls if you're a layperson. I mean, also, I think he, you know, he look, this guy wants the adrenaline rush. He wants to be able to take down this crime syndicate by himself. He doesn't need backup. All he needs is his backpack with his shoot in it. Um , John Steele, what do you got? John Steele writes, when Yancy Butler sneaks on the bad guy's plane . There is a sticker next to her that reads White Men and Women Can Jump. For people that get the Wesley Snipes reference, this is pretty great. For other people like my wife, who has no idea what it means, it can be a little strange. And uh John Steele did include a image of that. I did not see that in the movie. Oh my gosh. Uh, and uh John Steele continues to point out that also uh Sally, the young mechanic who gets his shoot sabotage was played by Corey Nemick, who played the titular role in Parker Lewis Can't Lose. Oh, I love Parker Lewis Can't Lose. I didn't . Um, I'm still just obsessed with that bumper sticker. Should we make that like a shirt white men and women can jump? I think that that is kind of funny. Let me know. Let us know in the Discord. We haven't been making too many new shirts lately, besides our uh tribute Avril sh irt, we maybe we need some more. We've been talking about them, but we just have not executed any of them. Uh Amani Taylor, 7280, writes, I think the two female leads were supposed to look alike to show the bad guys were trying to replace Yancy Butler with a similar type. That also explains why the female villain died in the copy machine to show the battle between copy versus the origin al. Oh damn. Oh no, you didn't. No, you didn't, Amani. Amani bringing the fucking heat. Okay, wow. Yes. Love this. Oh man. You know what? I mean, I want to I'm gonna hold on to it. We have one more comment. Sean McBee writes right after Bucey flies the guy into the power lines, he says the following. Cool move. You see, that 9-11's not gonna work for him. What you just saw there can happen to any one of you. Now I thought hearing a hijacker speak the words now nine eleven isn't gonna work for him about a now dead hijacker was so jarring that I went back twice to make sure I heard it right. Then I turned on the subtitles and realized that Gary Busey is trying to say nine one one, but he says it as 911. And wow, I can't believe I missed that . Whoa. Oh my god. Well, you know what? Sean McBee, you you kind of proved me right and wrong here because I was just about to give this week's winner to Amani . But then you come in with this clip about 9-11, and then I'm like, well, wait a second. I have we forgotten about uh Keetron? Or what about uh Greg from Montana? It's so many people. Sylvia who brought up the missing bodies. I mean, this has been an all-star week, but I have to say , I gotta say, I'm gonna go with my gut. Amani Taylor, 7280, you are our winner. And since you watch Drop Zone, you know that the characters had cool skydiver nicknames like Swoop and Sully and Deuce and Deputy Dog, just to name a few. Well, your winner's prize is that I will be giving you your official skyd iv ing nickname. Okay, so Amani , your skydiving nickname will be Xerox. Oh, I like it. Yo, what's up, Xerox? I like this. I feel like this is a good look for you, Amani. Alright, so welcome to the game, Xerox. You are this week 's winner. And for all of you listening who might be jealous I didn't give you a cool skydiving nickname, you can try your luck next episode by submitting your corrections and omissions on our Discord or by leaving us a voicemail at speakpipe.com/lassh hdt gm. Now, just before Jason pops on to chat with me, I have to remind you to tune into our classic episodes. We re-release those every Tuesday. This week's classic episode was the Wild Wild West with guest Kevin Smith, and next week's will be the 2003 film Daredevil with special guest Ed Brewbaker. So keep on checking out all of our replays of classic episodes every Tuesday. Now, without any further ado, it is time to welcome Jason for a little just chat . Bears in love, play us in . Oh sorry. Jason, we are gearing up for summer. Summer plans are on the horizon. Summer movies are coming out. Very excited about that. Uh what are you what are you most excited for summer movie? Like summer movieck Blobuster. What do we got this year? We've got a couple of big ones. I gotta tell you the one that I'm most intrigued by. And I don't even know if you know because yes, the Odyssey, 100%. Sure. Spider-Man brand new day. Absolutely. You know, uh Grogu. I'm right. Avengers, Doomsday. Oh, that's is that Christmas, I think. Oh, is that Christmas? Okay, okay, okay, forget it, forget it. Here's the one that I'm excited about. Have you heard about the sex purge movie? No. So okay, so the idea is that you can't have sex out of marriage in this society. I had about this. Okay, one night. It's like a rom-com . Yes, yes, yes. And I was like, this is there was something about it where I was like, oh, I just love this idea as a rom com because it kind of feels a little bit like before sunrise or before sunset. It's gonna be like a it's not there's no horror element to it, but it's a world in which you can only have one night stands and and on this one night. And I was I think is it only for single people? Or is is that it or something? I think you uh the you can't have sex out of It's a cool setup. Um I can't I remember liking who was in it. It's is it Callum Turner and uh Callum Turner and Monica Babaro. Yes, great . Two two young actors who I who I'm I'm super into. I don't know if they're geek squad or not,, but I mean yeah we'll see. We'll see. This might make them it's called One Night Only. One Night Only. Uh yeah, I'm I'm very like the trailer is pretty cool and it's also being I don't call it buried, but it's being placed in the August slot because the August slot to me is where you get to do the cooler movies. Like the the the more interesting ones. It's like, okay, we've been we've been through all the blockbusters. What do we got here? Uh I'm excited for that. I'm excited for the new Boots Riley movie. I love boosters. Cannot wait. I'm such a Boots Riley fan. I think he's absolutely fantastic. So that's one that I'm like so excited about. Oh, me too. Um and I gotta say, I mean, he to me is somebody who his brain works in a very different way, and not in a way like where uh you can say, like, you know, oh, they'll make a great like Christopher Nolan thinks of movies in these great, but like I feel like his version of the world. Like I am a Virgo, the seven-foot-tall or the giant. It's like there's this there's a visual language that he uses that no one else does. Uh, I don't know if you saw a couple weeks ago, but the they gave out free gas for I Love boosters. Uh they're like a pico and Western here. Like it was part of the promotion and it turned out to be uh a nightmare. You should not be giving out free gas at a time when gas is this expensive. The gases out there pumping gas did not work out well. Do you think we will be doing masters of the universe? Well, this is a question a lot. Having covered the Dolph Longren while I've watched the trailer for this new one . I was not uh it made me nervous. And Barbie, right? It's a little like it's a little Barbie, yes. Right. Were you a masters of the universe like as a kid cartoon fan? 100%. Okay, okay. I were you not or I was not. I was just a little older, so it didn't hit me right. You know? I have I will I will say this. People have reached out to me to say, I can't wait till you do this. Yeah. Some people have also reached out to me, said, I've seen it. Can't wait till you do this. So I uh okay good. So uh so either way, I am excited. I like I am a big believer of shut your brain off summer. Let me go in, let me sit back and enjoy whatever you got. Like and I I'm sure that if I can enjoy that like a Gerard Butler action movie, I would I'll be very, very happy. I'll be I agree a hundred percent. And that you know, i i I love a dumb blockbuster. Oh yeah. Uh I mean I hope I hope it's good enough to be fun and dumb. Yes. Uh what I worry is that it will it will try to be too serious and uh that will be the fair. And it won't work. Yes. That's my concern as well. Now have you heard this thing? I don't know. I'm not saying anything more than what I understand it to be, but um that potentially Steven Spielberg has made a sequel to Close Encounters with Disclosure Day. This is that's what I've heard as well, but I don't know how much that is true, or is that just is this a actual sequel or is this a spiritual sequel? I'm trying to Yes, the way that I understand it is there are similarities. So in the sense of that happened and this is happening in the same world. So it's not like there's not a new build of aliens. There's not a new like so it's it's just it's it's it's more in the continuity of the world where that did happen. Exactly. Right. So it's so I think Okay and I which I think is the right way to do it. I hope. I think. I I'm curious. I mean conceptually I love that as an idea. I love the idea of making telling new stories inside of the world of old stories we know without it being s uh uniquely tethered to like what I wouldn't want is for like Richard Dreyfus to show up. Well, that's definitely don't need that. Don't want it. Not at all what I want. I don't need Mr. Holland in this at all. No, and I also feel he's not fun. He's not fun anymore. I don't need Drifus is not fun anymore. No, we don't need this. See we, don't need it. Um I I uh the other one that I'm actually what I was I'll give you one that I saw and one that I'm excited for. Uh one that I saw early on, and I know it's only gotten better and better, but when I saw it, it was great, is uh the new David Wayne movie, which is uh the celebrity sex uh movie or sex pass, uh it's a hall pass. Yeah, the hall pass movie. Yeah, it's called like uh I so I saw the very first friends and family screen ing. It was in David's living room for I would say 10 people max. Oh wow. And it worked brilliantly. Oh cool. And I believe they even did some reshoots after it, but like taking it at just face value, watching it, it is great. Very much in the vein of wet hot. Uh that makes me happy. And the other one that I'm excited about or I'm interested in, because I think you and I, uh we we talk about this a lot, but uh the supergirl oh yeah uh is Tom King's Supergirl? Yes, that's what I'm excited about. The Tom King's super girl makes me pumped in everything that I've seen so far. I'm like, this feels looks great. Right? Looks great. I I'm I'm like I'm I'm trying to also be like tamp my excitement down. Yes. I agree. And and and this is coming from like I very much enjoyed the Superman movie was it last year or two years ago? Yeah. I I very much enjoyed James Gunn's Superman movie. I I've I've rewatched it. I think it's I think it's d terrific. But this looks awesome. Well if in a way that I was like, fuck I',m exc ited about this. Well, this is the thing that I think it was hard in a way. Like James Gunn has done a really impossible task, right? He has the peacemaker, which is just fantastic, right? So nailing it. I think then he you know introduces Superman, introduces the world, gives us enough of it that it's an entertaining movie. I saw it twice in the theater. I'm all on board. Great. But now it feels like the gates are open. Like the gates are wide open. And it's like from what I've seen about Clayface, which looks great. And weird. It's like I feel like there's gonna be, and that's what I think is great about James Gunn, is that he goes like he like his own sensibility is all over the place, which is great. Which is good. And I love that his curiosity and and his willingness to let other creators come in and interpret some of these characters differently uh is fantastic. Like that's what's exciting about the clay face thing. I'm still I'm still in the bag for Matt Reeves's Batman, even though I know that's not going to be the Batman of uh James Gunn's DCU. Uh, but I'm nonetheless, I'm excited for that. Let me tell you something, Jason. Again, I I can't. Paul, will you please tell me? I I gotta tell you. I know a little bit about what's going on on that. Oh, okay, cool. And all I gonna say is like jaw a gape in just what they're talking about doing. I was like, wait, what? It was nothing that was specific to the thing, but just an overall tonal idea for what how they're continuing that makes me so excited. And I and I also and and I think that that is the promise of the premise that the Joker was supposed to be, which is like oh, we can also live in this world where it's like it's like one off, it's like one shots. It's like yes, we can do this thing and it's not connected here, but it also feels like, oh, but as a fan, I'm gonna want both of these things. Uh they're they're doing it. And yeah, good. Because that's what we want. Like it doesn't all have to be the same story. Let let there be else world stories, let there be one-shots, let there like if you want it to feel like comics, then do it all the way. And ca notuse all comic s are all part of the same shared multiverse. There are there's constantly stories being told all over the place, you know? Um that's what's funny. I think that Wonder Man clicked over for so many people because like, oh, oh, this is just a show that takes place in a world that we have a shared knowledge of, but it has nothing to do with that show can be watched without any anything. Oh yeah. You don't have to know anything about Wonder Man or any of the previous MCU uh uh properties. You can just watch Wonderman on its own and have a blast watch ing uh Yehya and um um Sir Ben Kingsley go back and forth uh in dialogue that is absolutely hilarious and fantastic. Yeah and heartbreaking. Really, really well done. I'm I'm so excited they're actually gonna make a second season of that. Uh so that is uh that's great. Great news for cool shows. Have I talked to you about the fact that I am now, for the very first time in my life, I am about to finish season three of my very first watch through of the X-Files . Whoa. Have we talked about this? Here's the headline, Paul. And I don't know if you're an X-Files fan. I am. X Files is fantastic. Yes. Here's the in in a very embarrassing way. There are two properties that I somehow never that I dismissed and never got into, and in the last couple of years I've now devoured. The first was Star Trek The Next Generation, which I only had like a cursory understanding of and now have watched all of and think is phenomenal. Amazing. Um, and now the X-Files, which is terrific. Uh the X-Files to me is there are these shows that you go back and go, oh, they set the tone for everything that I like they said that they did so much they really really did it and it's and I would imagine that watching it now f similarly to Lost is a more enjoyable experience because at the time um you know the, show gets started, it's really great, it's and the episodes are really good, but then it was like you get caught up in the the main story. And then there were the monsters of the week story, and people are like, I don't want a monster of the week story, I want the main story. And you e and they're like, Okay, well, they're taking a longer time. They're getting famous. It was like there's a lot. I there's a lot of bumpy roads to get to uh the ending of it, which goes into the movies. Uh but man, it never faltered in quality. Oh, there's a tab about. Yes. That's exactly what it is. It's exact and that's that's been what has been the m I didn't know it was like Doctor Who and I love that about it. And so like there's a there's like uh on uh I guess it's Disney or whatever, you can organize it. You can there's a tab that's just monsters of the week episodes. Oh, there's a tab that's the whole it's it's dynamite. I've been really loving that. And then I am continuing uh my uh endeavor into watching anime. Um free rinse season two is now over and is going to be unequivocally my favorite show of the year. Um Jujitsu Kaizen, incredible show, uh unbelievable action sequences. Um and then uh the new show Witch Hat at elier . This is wow. I am 53. Um here's the thing. These shows are dynamite. Uh sentenced to being a hero, uh demon hunter, hunter times Hterun. Uh these are all incredible shows that are so fun, so funny, and so immersively satisfying to dig into these weird worlds. Absolutely a blast. Well, this is the you know, the again, I'm still behind on on entering into that world, but I all my favorite people that I trust their opinions of. Uh it's a it's a never ending uh group of shows. So much of it? There's genuinely too much anime to get into but um these i've i've i purposefully have been choosing shows that that that i read about that are meant to be great but that are also not like there's 11 seasons of it. You know what I mean? Like, like like I said, free rinse season two. Sentenced to being a hero, just finished season one. Uh Jujitsu Kaizen, I think only has three seasons maybe. These are great series. Well now, Jason, I gotta tell you one thing, uh, you know, another talk about never ending or exploding worlds. You know, my a very good friend of mine, uh, I could talk about it now, has been tasked with uh continuing the fast and the furious universe for television. I s oh wait, who is your friend? Because I saw it announced. Who also is behind Rockford Files. He's done them both. Oh, the Boreanis What Rockford Files? Yes. So he is uh Rockford Files is gonna go as a mid-season and um and it picked up PIs are back, baby. PIs are back in a big way. Uh Rockford Files, I know that uh our friends Dan Gore and Luke Deltretici are doing the Jake Johnson uh uh P.I. show comedy P.I. show. There's the Scott Speedman. Keith David. Yep. With Keith. Oh my God. Keith David's so funny. So good. Uh the Scott Speedman one is up now. There's like a ton we're back. We're back with private investigators. And and uh and you know, look uh you and I love we have a soft spot for Rockford, so Rockford, great cast, really fun world. I'm curious. I'm being I'm so curious about Rockford. I'm I really I want to know how Boreanus is gonna do this. I'm very curious. All right, well then again, and we talk to you outside of school and say, or I could say uh exactly the way you would want him to play it. Great. He plays it like James Garner. Like in the like he's funny, he's light, but he's also able to do the heavier stuff of the show. Like that it feels like it has weight. Because I was like, he'll definitely be able to nail all of like the heavier like like uh procedural stuff to the to it. But does he have that light touch? Does he have that twinkle in his eye that I do feel like he had when he was angel? Well, that's what I was feeling. And that when I was watching, I was like, oh, he's hitting this sweet spot, which is intimidating but likable. And then that's and when Angel got into the more detective of the week kind of stuff. It was the similar vibe. And I think it's uh, you know, it I just think it's a it's a great, it's a great one. It's I I I'm excited for that. I think that that will be really fun. Great. Um, but I will say, you know, the Fast and Furious World, so it was announced, uh it was announced like you know, so he's been working on both of these things for a very long time. They but then and but fast and furious kind of got added to the upfront slate and was like, here we go, you're going with that one as well . And then it was announced a couple days after that. There are three other ones. There are gonna be four. Four Fast and Furiouses? Yes. All within the the different worlds. I know where my friend show takes place and it's in it it's the great it's a great spot for it to take place. And it's uh and it feels uh unique it doesn't feel like uh territory that's being tread in the films at all. Um and very much excited about that. But I'm like, wow, there. So there is a world in which in the next year we're going to have four, you know, in the universe of uh uh of fast and furious but hallucinating yeah i love that i'm a i'm curious i hope i mean uh listen i'm all in so like silent i'll tell you the one that the one that he has been doing again, can I't talk about it, but I can say, wow. If you were to say like pitch in this world, he did a great pitch in this world. And I think what it will feel like to your point about PIs being back, I think it will feel like a show like Night Rider. Yeah. Like a show like car type shows where it's like hardcastle and McCormick. Yeah, they're not they're not detectives, but they're driving around in cars. There's like a little bit of illegal stuff. But yeah, you know, and look, and if anything, we we we hopefully will uh maybe get that that movie made. I mean, I know Vin Diesel threatens it every couple of minutes, but uh we'll see. I'm so curious. Oh my god. I love this. I can't wait to hear off-air more specifics. I will tell you, uh yeah, I I will tell you it is it is it is fun. Um there's two really great new music-based podcasts um that I'm gonna shout out. One of them just started, so there's only a couple of episodes in. Um it's called Hit That Perfect Beat, the London Records Story. Um and it's just a great uh docuseries about London Records and each of the iterations of London Records and all of the kind of new wave bands and the stuff that are from that era of music in the 80s and stuff like that. Really great, but but London Records pred ates that. So it's a lot of history, but it's also just great interviews with musicians that are for me, I love, you know. Uh I didn't even I'm just looking at the history of London Records and it's like, wow, it is really uh really really interesting. It's like there's a yeah, there's a lot of exists as like a part of DECA records for a while, and it's they sign the stones and they sign they don't sign the Beatles and it's all this interesting stuff. And then it kind of dies and then it kind of comes back later as this other uh entity that has all this like a a lot of super popular new wave and post wave bands and stuff. That's so cool. I I love it. Really great. That and Jad Ebu Murad, who was the host of Radio Lab for many years, put out a podcast last year that I never shouted out but have been meaning to, which is all about uh Nigerian musician Fela Kuti , which is incredible. I mean, like Fela is absolutely one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, and it is a deep, deep, deep dive into Fela, both musically, politically, in every way he is so significant and so impactful as a person uh in Africa, in the world, in music, in politics. He's and just as a character, he's super interesting. And Jad does an incredible job deep diving into Fela Kuti. So I love this. It's called Fela Kuti Fear No Man. Uh, it's a limited series, so you can check it out. It's absolutely dynamite. Uh, you know, I always have a hard time like you know, I've I've been trying very hard to listen to different music, find dip some stuff because I felt myself getting in my own rut of things. And I gotta tell you, I fell in love with this guy, uh McKinley Dixon, who is just a great like hip hop artist. Oh and I felt uh you know I just was like very excited because I was like, oh and uh he's uh he's he's like a and that level of like he is popular, but I don't know if he is like hit full full mainstream yet. Uh and he's on tour, but I would say if you like uh you like hip hop, uh uh check out this guy. He is just great sound, a really, really great sound. And uh yeah. There's a couple of records that I'll shout out just because I feel like they've been really a part of my spring so far. One of them is uh is called Vila or Via maybe. It's Fabiano do Nascimento . It's a Brazilian record that is so beautiful. V-I-L-A is what it is. Okay. And it's been I've been playing it constantly on repeat this spring. And in fact, there's a song called Spring Theme that is very on brand for the season. Um, absolutely terrific. There has been, for the first time in I think 13 years, maybe or longer, new music from the band Boards of Canada, who are one of my favorite uh electronic, uh uh like hypnotic, uh weird, unknowable kind of bands of it's just two brothers who make incredible music and have for years, but they have these long fallow periods where they don't release anything. And suddenly a couple of weeks ago, weird stuff started popping up online and people were like, wait a minute, is there new boards of Canada? And it turns out yes, a new album called Inferno is coming. Uh or by now that you're listening to this, it very well may be out. Um, that's been very exciting to me. Um, new Greg Mendez, new Beth Orton, uh an artist who, again, hasn't made a record in quite some time, and who I just am I just absolutely adore, and her new music is fantastic. I love that. Um I you I've shouted out this guy before. Again, it's like so much of what I'm enjoying right now is is stuff that is relaxing and I've been on the road and stuff. So much of like what I want is something that's gonna calm me down a little bit. Um, and I always find Alabaster de Plume uh music incredibly beautiful and calming. And uh he's got a new record that's just come out that's absolutely fantastic. Really, really beautiful, beautiful saxophone music. Not jazz necessarily, but not not jazz, if that makes sense. I also have been listening to this band called Mama, which is just kind of like more like an indie rock, kind of like a like I like that kind of uh female fronted like indie rock sound. And yeah, this band has been really fun. I'm I'm uh newer on my journey into them, but I found them uh again through just a little bit uh, you know, hit and miss on Spotify and Mama has been uh a a big hit for me. Ooh, I love that. Great. So there we go. Good. Ooh, well a music corner. I'm I'm I'm trying you know, I'm trying to try this singer-songwriter Alice Costello has put out great new music. This band, the Mont Vales, I'm really enjoying. Um, yeah, there's a bunch of good new stuff that's been really exciting and really fun to put together for a spring list of being like, hey, it's spring. Let's let's get out there. Let's fucking I like it and it's bopping. All right. Well, Jason, so much here. Can I plug something that I that's that's that's a me plug? And wait, did I already plug this? Forgive me, Scott will tell me if I did. Uh I was a guest on the Hank Green show on YouTube. Uh Ask Hank Anything. Um and uh Oh, I just saw a clip of this where it was about asking if you should wipe your butt? Is that asking if you should wipe your pet's butt? Oh
