Ocarina of Time Remake Announcement

Would you believe that we wanted to record something after that Nintendo direct? Even though it was so boring and nothing of note was announced? Yeah. that's always a chance and never has their short of when Sfhroth was announced in Smash Brothers Never the first leakage. N has there been an event that we needed to record something immediately after. Yeah. moreore than this one. More than. Yeah. I mean, like we've done multiple things like this in the past, but usually it's like Because there's a little bit of pomp and circumstance to Nintendo Directs. and just generally speaking, you and I get more excited about Nintendo Directs than any other event. But this was like this really was like an all timer one for the book. This changed my perception of what their most popular series are because I usually think that like the things I'm looking forward to are kind of in their like B and C teams. Yeah And it feels like that shifted for this direction. Like the sort of big end Like obviously, Zelda was the thing we all kind of like the open secret of this event we'll get to that We're going to go through the announcements But u I was amazed at how much U how how specifically geared towards you and I this one Yes Even which I'll even say the stuff that didn't feel like it was geared towards you and I was still in some ways geared towards you and I. Like I will just say the existence of Gigantic thumbs getting like a full five minute slot That's the only one I took notes during. Like I was like, this is going to be too fast. I don't want to take notes and And then like the minute they're like, your thumbs get bigger when you thumb wrestle. I'm like, I am like creatively inspired by the that scares me ' I want to make something. The only time it slowed down was for them to be like, we have a bevy of incredible new sports available for you in this video game. but the one we wantna drill down on is thumb wrestling. All right, L usually there's like a bathroom break announcedment. And the closest one to that was like the abrupt cut to Minecraft Steve after like the heartwarming Delta Room announce All right. also at the top, this one is say A huge happy birthday to my brother in law TJ. Oh, happppy birthday, TJ who is a huge Kingdom Hearts fan. Dude. and I feel like this was for him. That's the closest I've ever gotten to crying on stream actually. I was watching that. I felt the hearts of every Kingdom of Hearts fan melt. The minute like a moody girl in a hoodie said, The world isn't perfect. I'm like, we're back. We're so back. The world isn't perfect. And my niece apparently, she's in her Mario phase, but I got TJ A Sora Amiibo for the holidays a year or two ago And apparently she's now like sleeping with it. also a new Kingdom Hearts fan on the wall. That's so sweet Yeah. Wow. What a heartful having great isJ. A kingdom heart's wararming way to start the this event. TJ's also giing me shit for never including him in anecdote on Eric. I'm always like me and my family. And it's like, what about me? Yeah, What about me There we go, TJ. We're now we're actually let's make this horrible for TJ. We're gonna mention you in every episode from now on E single one is gonna be it's gonna start with a TJ update. Instead of TWG, it's just like TJ. TJ. TJ. The brother in law Oline. Yeah. Brother in law online. Wow. All right. That's my weird big thumbs Rhythm H Grove was the first announcement, which this was we all seen before. Well, we knew it was coming, but we saw more of it than ever before I will say I was already excited about this and then again like a dart We thown directly into both of our foreheads. They were like, alsoso, there's a JRPG in here Yeah. and they also like the voice that narrates this is like a specific me voice that is just comedy gold. Oh yeah. It's like, you can now play an RPG. It's like just love the voice. So good. Yeah. And like whatever when when you're playing with your friend would they have four player co op in this one veryer exciting also. This also feels like it's taking the mantle of Warriorware better than War youware currently a good feeling. Yeah this is maybe like Um the direction for both series to go in like kind of local co op lotots of different game modes., you know, I can't wait for this. And this is coming out. I wrote down the release date. This is Uh actually soon, it's july second on both switches It was confusing, though because they were like this one's on both switches. fromrom now on it's just going to be switch two, but there are a couple that are on both switches. Yeah. Yeah, you need to the problem is you need to like look at the top left at every announcement where they will show either one logo for the switch two or two logos for the switch and switch two. I think what they meant was like This is made for both in a way that may I don't know who knows? I that confused. Whatever. Yeah, just just need to be vigilant. but it's nice for us because we have switched twos. So obviously no matter what they announce, we can play it Sure. I am glad that this is available on both. It feels like we're definitely no longer in that in between time. L I feel like this direct kind of Announnce loudly like we are now in Switch two We're moving to Switch two world, yeah, totally. I'm happy that Tomadaci life and Rhythm Heaven are like the swan songs of the Switch O. Perfect. Yeah. What other games should they be? Yeah, exactly. I do also want to say and I don't want to spoil anything about it, but tomorrow's episode of the show, we did some predictions for what was going to happen in this direct We did okay. did We did o is what I'll say. I don't want to say anything else about it. The one thing that I did say, which was not actually a prediction, but was more of like a hope is I was thinking like this is probably the most important direct in the entire switch to life cycle, just because it's the first one after the price hike. Sure. And a lot of people in My chat today when I was streaming this were like, I am convinced. like I will buy a switch tobe because of the things I announced in this direct It really was on Eespecially when you consider like, I mean, look, I rememain critical of all these giant companies. Of course I think when you look at the current reality where like You know, we said before that Switch two is clearly not that the Steam deeck has sold any numbers compared to the Sitch two Yeah But I do think just in terms of its like, place it Bills, it's very comparable to the steam deck I think, you know, the fact that they focus so much on third party support At this point, I think Nintendo has an opportunity to be like, well, the steam deeck is seven hundred dollars. I know you're still kind of mad about this being five hundred dollars. All of this is too expensive, but at least it's not seven hundred dollars. And you can play a lot of the same games and also Nintendo stuff. Yeah. I some I love my steam deck.so The stuff coming out on Switch two is more optimized for Switch two than it is optimized for Steam Deck as well., which I think is notable. Like increasingly, I think even though they're kind of comparable in performance The Switch two gets the mower, the more rigorous performance testing It's like thinking about a lot of the third party ports in the first switch. it would be like, you can now play this game from the three hundred and sixty era handhe. rightight And there was a novelty that novelty to that But now it's like You can now play the definitive version of Les of Pe. Yeah, a game that is made for frame rate snobs. again literally for people that want bloodborne at sixty four. Even literally the next announcement after Rhythm Hea and Groove was Oni Musha Way of the sword. There's that new Oni Musha game coming out this which I'm curious about. third party AAA twenty twenty six video game launching day and Date on the Switch two. It's lots of Capcom stuff.ing to see how how interested in this I mean, that kind of that kind of was happening in the switch one. Yeah where I thought the RE engine is just like weird divine magic works well on this way. Yeah And I think like also it's a later one like Devil Make Cry being on the switch two. That's another game that's like you really want a smooth frame rate to fully enjoy that And the fact that it's like, yeah, that feels like a flex of like we can run things smoothly if they're You know, launch Devil Mc totally. Yeah. And like not to be that guy because this definitely sounds like Reddit commenter But it I think increasingly the more CapCom shows up with unbelievable ports on the switch to The more it does make me question the shitty ones, you know? like the unopptimized ones. like, especially on PC that that's like Not always, but every now and then like like the Dragon's Dogma PC port was like really, really which speaking of which is the next announcement after Onim Musha Dragon's Dog Mat two Darker Rison which is I'm curious if this will be a Switch two exclusive or if this will be everywere. I don't think so. I think it's everywhere, but I do think it's launching day and date on Switch two I might get this on Switch because I like Dragons's Dogma handheld. Y. I really loved my time with Dragon's Dogma two and I think I Like Dark A Rison is sort of the definitive version of the first game as well Yeah. I love that they reuse Darkerisen Yeah, just like that's just the it's the golden of of dog Yeah. I could this was the beginning of me being like, I can't believe this Nintendo direct. Like that I say this every time there's an event If there's one announcement I'm excited about, I'm happy. Like I literally am like If you're going to waste my time by sitting me in front of a A twitch.tv link like you better show me at least one thing I didn't know about and can get excited about And then as soon as I'm over that hump, I'm like, whatever else happens is Yeah, I can just go for a walk. Otherwise it should be a fucking email or a post on Blue Sky. You know what I mean? Like I don't need it unless there's one. And the fact that like literally within five minutes, I had already seen there's a JRPG in Rhythm Heaven Groove and now Dragon Zogma two is getting DLC. It's called Dark Arisen and it's coming to Sitch two I was like Sold. That's That's like a winner soldier activation code for. Yeah, seriously Yeah I we were so naive when this announcement was happening about what was coming next. Yeah. Right. This is just the beginning. I will say though the only weird thing about or there's a lot of weird things about this direct, but the thing that I didn't like. I don't love the ads before it starts. Yeah, that was the first time strange. Yeah. where like in the like I like the sort of ethereal like calm before the storm countdown to it. And the fact that it was like Nintendo music is now in brrowser. You can listen to music on the internet. You know what? I was thinking about that actually So first of all, it's like All the ads they showed before the direct started were all things that have been announced on Nintendo today including an ad for Nintendo today. and I was like, I think Nintendo today is not doing what they wanted to. I think it's not performing that well because For them to feel for the first time ever to feel the need to run ads for their own stuff before their Nintendo Direct. I understand they have a captive audience and there's a lot of people sitting there and waiting and watching. so like why not use that space to push your stuff The fact that it was all stuff that was announced first on Nintendo today indicated to me that that is not the source of news that they wanted it to be for people. I have not really used it at all since downloading it eith I think' telling because I think you and I are both people who would use it. Y if it was like interesting or good. Yeah. I think I do think there's It is. It is interesting And I think there's a little bit of a usability hurdle where like I don't have a reason to check it every day and therefore I'm not checking it at all You know? Yeah, it's also I mean, I think it's probably less to do with the app itself and more just like we are so at this point hardwired to get news from certain places get specific news about one thing from a app of that company, right feels a little o Because I mean Tuly like this is one of those situations where there's somebody on staff at every video game website whose job it probably is to open up Nintendo today every morning and see if there's something there, you know, and like I would Much rather have that news delivered to me by that person Thank God Nintendoself Yes. Th Nintendo itself. Like I don't want to open that app myself Yeah somebody elo music though for me. I think Nintendo Music is a pretty interesting app. It's still the weird UI thing and I wish they like credited artists more directly. Yeah. But they have updated a lot recently. which is nice And I'm glad it doesn't seem my initial worry with Nintendo music was that it was going to lead to the Nintendo legal team like You know, scorching every YouTube channel. But it seems that hasn't really hasn't happened. Yeah, which I'm happy I do find interesting because I also thought that that's exactly what that was for Anyway Dragon's Agma two Darker Risen is coming up october ninth relatively soon Um Orbitals c op fun game we keep seeing over and over again. That's coming out in September I'm just excited for it. There's really not much else I can' wait for orrbit. It looks great. I think that's also going to be like a big defining game for the switch do. I think so too. I mean, like when you see how people gravitate towards things like it takes two in split fiction, I think having one that is not made by that one company is probably exciting to a lot of people. I also u I think u In addition to orbitals, Rayman Legends Rold, looks like a lot of fun Okay I was really if so that was announced, I think during the Playsttation event and I feel like I was iffy on it because Ray Man Legends is such a recent game and still looks so good and is still available And I was like, why would you remake this game? And I think once again, we keep shouting them out, Geo over Polygon did a great interview with the creative leade on this game and was like, why would you remake this game when the original looks so great Their answer, which I think was a great answer is We're just we're doing it so we can train up a team to make new rayman games. Oh cool. G honestly, great answer. Like that's that's, you know, you as we say every single time because the discourse machine never stops, you and I are more, I think pro remake than other people, Not that we always want remakes, but like in certain situations, I think that they're acceptable. And I think in this case in particular, that's a fantastic answer for why you would remake this game. Yeah, I agree. It just looks like a fun co op game to have. I'm also like looking for more multiplayer stuff on such Always. So yeah. yeah. spepeaking of which, big walk big ls This looks like I describe it as like the Moma's take on peak. Oh, that's so good. It looks like kind of like a art house friendslop game. Yeah. I'm so excited about this. I love I mean, I love this team. I think that this game is going to be great. What team is this? That makes sense because I feel there's like playful annoyances here where you can like take people's stuff and kick it off a cliff and stuff. Yeah, it it's going to be so fun. That's yeah, I was talking to the entire. zip crew was in chat while I was streaming this and I was talking to them about it. I was like better invite me to play this game with you. I just need to mention one piece Grand Gourmet Yeah, I also wrote this down. Yeah This looks awesome. This is by Pyirosoft who I love their games. They did game development story like did l that. Yeah yeah. And they basically have just made like new versions of that game every two years since like two thousand six. and Honestly, like I'm always here for it. I think that that team rocks and I've never seen them do something like this. It looks so fun Yeah, you play as Asanji, right? U you play as Sanji from one piece and you basically run his restaurant. So it's like, Kind of like a restaurant scin where you can like customize it and attract new customers. I feel like there's a version of this. It's like a nightmare, free to play Simpson' taed out. Totally. And it looks really fun. and like that's the thing about Pyrosoft is like all of their games are Like they feel like they could be riddled with micro transansactions, but they are all like pay five dollars and you have the whole game. and I really appreciate that I u I've been One piece like taunts me at every corner I've read the first hundred chapters and really loved it And whenever I go to Sui two, there's like a huge like ship you can walk in of They rebuild the ship for conventions. Yeahah. it's so fun. It's so up my alley. I just haven't if th it gets like a full time job to catch up with one piece Although maybe I feel like it's nearing its end, right? So I feel like I'll have a clean break at a certain Anyway, one piece. I'm definitely got to p take that up. What's next on your list Next of my list is the let me see. Yeah, one piece gang then the Pulkopia expansion. Yeah. So there's a free update, I think today or something or maybe in August. Basically they're doing a free update to Picopia where you can like go underwater. build stuff underwater like Atlanta. And then there's also a paid expansion pass that will have three events. it looks like. Yeah. Yeah there's going to be three st stages to this. It seems like each one is going to add a new town and a bunch of Pokemon. So the first one is called Bubbly Basin and is essentially just like an underwater town that you can go hang out in I'm slightly bitter because I feel like Picopia and Live in the Dream came out around the same time. And I would argue that liive in the Dream like needs an update more than Picopia does Vacopia has also been a smash success. Yeah It's the one that got the bundle Yeah, exactly. So u This is cool. I mean, I'm glad they're updating it, you know, I wish Animal Crossing got the sameent. Yeah, maybe hopefully this is them learning their lesson a little bit Yeah, and don't wait five years to do like an update after everyone's already like hung over from four hundred hours of playing. Yeah. I'm excited about this though, because I mean, I finished that game And once the credits rolled, I was like, I don't really know if I want to playing it I think the way some people do, you know, some people are would just kind of want to go in and like around their towns forever. Yeah, it's interesting. I feel like both Pakopia and Tamadashi life have like kind of an ending Yeah. You know, like I I put in like thirty five to forty hours of Tamadashi. And one scream Instavey and Sabrina Gills had a kid named Surf and Joe. I'm like, that's it. I think I like I don't know if I need more out of this. Beause I think at a certain point, once you've like unlocked most of the island, it kind of feels like groundhog day And it's still like a blaz. I love that game. Yeah I think it's such a joyful time, but I do wish there was like a bit more to unlock. At a certain point, you kind of have to make your own stuff if you want more variety And then that feels a little bit emptier than like the more kind of authored items that they can interact with. Yeah, you know, ye Um But anyway The next one episode Well one of the big ones. Yeah. Fortunes Weave. I think it's telling that Fortunes Weave was announced this early L, you know, you know what they have this this should have been this is usually like an end of the show announcement Fortun,'ve got a release date, september sevententh. F farther away than I would want it to be, but I'm also I was also emotionally preparing for it to be like delayed. That's what I was thinking next year. Um I certainly think that I kind of expected it to be like July or August, but September Makes sense. It also kind of shows if farm is rising the ranks of like priority. Yeah Be like Nintendo generally, like the later in the year it is like the higher other than like December is weirdly the it's like the scale from the good place seven is the peak and then it goes down again Yeah. They put it in September, which is the month that every game that's not Grand thats Auto six is coming out. So there they have enough confidence in it to put it up against literally every other video game. Yeah Um But so we got the release date. we also see we got more of a description of what it is. So it's clearly made at least like the character design is similar to three houses. Yeah. And it's connected to three houses in the sense that like Sooth this is there, but she's like an adult now Um, and It seems to be centered around this like gladiator arena U where like the winner gets a wish granted or something and and there are four lead my big question was like Is there going to be like do we because, you know, firearm changes up like whether or not we make our own character or we play as someone else, or you know, is it gonna to be three houses where we choose We do choose who the lead character is So there's like a shot an anime protagonist boy. I think his name is Ki Hi. Yeah U And then there's like a very aloe card like vampire guy. u the queen there' like this badass like warrior queen and then there's a Bard prrimrose basically from Yeah, I was a vengeful bard Yeah. whoo are you most drawn to? Do you think you'll play it? I mean, obviously the venual Bard That's I think I think she's going to sweep. I think I also think she's going to sweep. Yeah. I am like weirdly like I think her or Kai, I feel like I want to' with you on. Kai just feels like he has main character Eerg be my number two. Yeah. Yeah. I think I'm saving Alucard or the quQeen for like the second or third playthrough. I guess what I'm most curious about is like Is it just you're choosing who the lead is and it's otherwise the same game. or is it literally three houses like We are getting four different storylines I think I really think it's gott to be four different storylines they hold I think the specific thing for me is they hold such different places in society Yeah, but I don't think you could tell the same story between Kai who seems to be more like a normal person in everyday life or literally een the vaugh, you know, in F of twelve. Yeah kind of. Yeah, I think My guess So they kind of there's also like clearly like a monastery like Garg Mo ab where you like train And you also recruit your characters My hunch is that, yeah, each lead has their own story but there's like a pool of characters you can pull from. So rather than three houses being like We have a set cast of eight for write each story It might be like you can get You can pull from the same pool of. Yeah But the lead and the story is. Yeah, I have a hunch that it'll be very similar to three houses where like every every house lead had like a retainer with them. I imagine every character will probably have like one or two people that you have to have on your squad, but then everyone else will be recruitable, which I think is probably the right move. Yeah It also just occurred to me literally right now that Fortune's Weave sounds like four. It also unfortunately sounds like Fortune. It does sound like Funan F little four hands weave but that sucks. Yeah I will also say I am very interested in The D see. It was a little bit loose, but is actually closer to what I thought from the first announcement which is that it seems like most combat is either taking place in the Cosseum or you're leaving the city entirely to like go train for the Colosseum battles, whichich I think is a fascinating idea. And then the Coliseseum is being rearranged into different maps. And that makes me optimistic for the level design. Yes. It sounds like they took the note from Three Houses where it's like a lot of these maps are just like really big fields U I think if you have a literal arena, you can really play You do whatever you want with it. Yeah. And then like even I mean fire emblem map maker if you want, you know, if there's that would be limited space. I just think there's a lot of fun they can have with that idea Um And I'm really excited about it. But it looks like it retains a lot of the stuff that we liked about Three houses. I'm very optimistic about this game. Yeah, me too. I also like the sort of sword and sandal vibe of think it feels I think they said it's in DAagdA, which I think is one of the countries in Like Fodin is like the main continent of Th houses, but I'm pretty sure like Shamir is from Daga. Oh reallyally Be there's like you hear a lot about the other countries like Almyra and Bridgget Yeah. And I think Pretty sure dagged it. Let me look at this Yeah. I'm looking at it up. I'm curious Is Shamir from Dagda Wiki help me out Yes, you're right, Dagda Yeah. Wow, cool. So I mean, if this game does well, we could literally get a game in each province, you know? L kind of like Elder Scrolls.ike I think that's a rich enough world. you could do a game in Bridid or you can do a game in Alm. This is their trails. Yeah. Oh my God, you're right All worlds collide. But yeah, I mean this is I am beyond excited. I may even get that like ludicrous Deluxe edition with all the Oh yeah, the steel book looked really nice. Yeah I am not like a steel book guy, but this Every now and then I will go all out for that I almost got the Octopath Zero thing where you get the ring ye weird map U But yeah, this is this is so good. Yeah This was this I will say this was the beginning of me like unhinging my jaw Yeah Yeah to swow the entir contend under direct. Also this this is the thing I I was looking forward to the most. just like I need to know when this is coming out. Yeah Oh The next thing I wrote down here These are less I'm excited for this and more just like I wanted to talk about it with you. DK challenge. Amazing idea. Yeah, it's interesting, right? So they're basically if you didn't watch the direct, what they're basically doing is taking What was the like NES World Championship edition game that they released like a year or two ago which is just like a collection of mini games you can play in anyES games. and they're Esentally building that into Nintendo online. So they will give you a bunch of specific challenges and things that you need to do within In this case, Donkey Kong games. in Nintendo online and then also some extra ones in Bonanza as well. And then if you have the DLC, there's like extra ones on top of that. And you unlock like like trading The rewards I'm like, this is like a little bit uncomfortably close NFTs for me. Yeah It feels like a little bit too much like hats in Team fortress too Yeah., but you know, it's I think it's I like when Nintendo does like fun, vaguely confusing things. Y, you know, that like no one really akes advantage. I think it's a great idea though. and I'm excited for more of them, you know, like I think they're doing this DK challenge when I think through August or something and it implies to me that they will probably try to do it for other franchises. I also like them keeping the retro collllections kind of active in some wayays. same beyond just like tweeting at six AM. like we add a Jelly Man You know U another So okay, there's there's like a huge Another big announcement, but there's like a few things in between this and them that I wanted to touch on Another weird one is D Jetsu Kaisen Rumble sururviva Tom, Is that would'? Yeah when they when they showed It's the way they introded this was a new game from the creators of vampire sururvivors. I was like, Ohh, vampire crawlers. nice. Yeah I thought the exact same thing and then it was Jick a. The total whiplash moment. Yeah. It looks, I mean, it looks cool. I u I feel like I am less into JJK than I was. I really, really loved that first season, then I kind of fell off after that I'm sure it's still good. I just like it kind of went in a direction I was less interested in. Yeah. It also, I feel like it got it like released the same time as Chainsaw in and I fell more into the ladder they're like very similar in a lot of ways. I feel like I kind of just hold them to chain some in, but it's a great series, great manga, great anime and I feel like if this came out a couple of years ago, I probably would have picked it up because I feel like that was in the thick of the vampire survivors like ania Yeah and I was more into JJK. It looks it looks cool. I like these collaborations, you know. Yeah, I really just kind of convinced me more than anything that I just want to get back into JJK. Yeah That's really it was more of an ad for JJK than anything because I watched like ten episodes of it. I was like, I love this and then I didn't watch anymore. so I'll probably You should definitely watch that first a season. Yeah. it's really good. Yeah. Okay. And then let's see what else here that I wrote else happen Lies of P compleomplete edition. Yeah, that's fun. That's happening august sixth, which is pretty soon U Andice That was Devil Make Cry as well. Devil Make Cry five that game's awesome. Have you ever played Deil Make Cry? No, I haven't, but I think you'd like it because it's very campy. Yeah. like they really get the balance of like Like some Dble Mic crag games are I think like three is really not only the my favorite, but where they get the camp perfectly right. Yeah. The series kind of veers between how seriously it's taking itself and feels like like they're really upping the camp in a fun way. Yeah. It's just sort of fun to hang out with like a bunch of goths and like stylishly fight monsters. Yeah, it looks I mean, it looks great and everyone I know who played it really liked it. So I feel like I should be playing that. And then another Vita U Vita magic U Was it Moram Musa? Yeah, Murmas Revenant Blades. Yeah. I'd never played this, but u I don't think it's actually it's not even on this list you sent me. Yeah, it just wroted down. It looks great though but it looks really good Yeah, that's an older game, right? They're porting that vanillaare the. Yeah, I think this is Mermasa rebirth Again, It just as like they just like added a new subtitle to it. But it looks like they've added a lot of stuff to it and like touched up all the art. Like it looks pretty intense this version Yeah. I'm excited for it. It's a cool game. I liked a lot. Okay The big ones here leading up to the big announcement, Switch two versions of the Zenoblade Chronicles trilogy. Yeah, very quick, which everybody know been asking for forever. Yeah I will be getting because we got a definitive switch to version of Zenabe Chronicles X. Yeah Now we have, not only is it like they run better, but there's like extra stuff in all of right u and extra modes. I will probably get all of them. But I'm going to get I think that I think the one for Zenobay Chronicles one is available to is out today. Yeah. And that's the one I don't. So that's I'll just get that. Perfect. And once once I Basically once we're done with the PS one episode, I can kind of more meaningfully go to my backlog and I'd like to through this trilogy. Yeah. L That whole game is like a weird gotcha thing Um, But that that that's cool. Yeah, that led up to I was floored by this, but they were like a new entry in the Xenooblade franchise. Was this rumored at all? I hadn't heard anything about this at all. Yeah I would I wonder if att this point because leaks at this point are so common and so often correct I wonder if companies like Nintendo literally calculate what they're comfortable with getting out and what is like really, really kept the secret. Yeah because it does feel like at a lot of these events, there's like The thing we're all waiting for to be real and then there's something like this where it's like, o, no one knew about that. Yes, which I think is always That's always the fun thing about watching these events. I mean, I will say for my time at Marvel, like Stuff leaked. all the time. at Marvel and yes. We never like it was stuff that was leaking that like we didn't even know about. you know, it would be stuff like I I have the script for this movie on my hard drive at work and for some reason a leaker knows what's in the post credit scene that I don't have in my script. You know, like like that level of stuff. So I don't think that they want happening, I would guess. But there have been moments where it's been like been speculated to the point of probably being true that like companies like Apple will leak upcoming colors of their iPhones just to gauge interest. You know, It'll be like,ed one and then they they will or won't based on how people respond to that. It's become so commonplace that it feels like it's almost become marketing at this point. Yeah. The thing is though, like The reason I think that's not true in video games and is probably more true in something like an iPhone is that you know, for something like the Occarina of Time remake rumor that had been going around or that leak that had been going around for a while I mean, that's a game that they made and it took years to make it. and for it to leak, you know, two months ago just to gauge interest to see if people would want it or not, I think. would be like That's like a multi million dollar gamble that you're making, you know? Yeah, that's true. That's a good point. I was just curious about that Xenoblade Genesis, a new Zenoblade Chronicles game looks incredible. This is the most made for us game in this holder. Like I love the look of the Xenoblade games, specifically like one and three. lesson to two is character design, but I like look of the game, but This looks like it has a new direction. I like the look of the characters a lot more. And it really looks like three houses. Like it's almost a joke. There's like an academy There's drama U I would guess given the title that this is maybe like a distant prequel of some kind. Yeah Um, but regardless like It just really It really solidifies like Zenablade has kind of slowly trans transitioned from This is like a niche cult game of Nintendo's akin to like I don't know, like what fire emblem used to be and maybe even what like Earthbound used to be. And now is their flagship RPG su. R. This is their final fantasy. Yeah U And I think it'sing out next year to say twenty twenty seven. Did did say twenty twenty seven. I was really surprised that it was coming next year actually. Yeah. I mean, because I just I loved the look of it so much. and even the end like It had like a Dyson sphere thing where you're like inside of a sphere instead of instead of the world being on the outside of theere. likeike just stuff like that So inventive, so cool. And I think elevates What is like a pretty classic like fantasy military accademy setting into something a little bit more spectacular. Yeah because this goes beyond three houses, obviously. This is like every almost every anime from the twenty ten. Yes and like you know well before that. Yes. But I was really blown away by the look of this thing. I'm really excited so excited Lipping out while this was being announced. N I love This might be the game that like this and us revisiting X youo gears or the PS one episode I think is gonna really sick en us Yeah. But also I mean, even even the conversation that we're always having about This team is like monolith. Yeah, is like tried to have this giant extended universe and tell this story kind of out of order for at this point. and that's a great It feels like they're finally getting to do, right? Like we had Xenoblade Chronicles one, two and three, and now we're going back in time. and I imagine at some point we'll go even further in time. Like And that was the plan. Yeah, you know, that like when you look at the outline for what the Xeno gears plan was was like the that first game was episode five And then there was going to be like the before times and then, you know, jump into the future So like I just love ye, I love that they're getting to do this. Yeah. And do it in a way that is like constantly evolving and changing Even just like the vibe of Zenom Blay Chronicles O, two and three. All three of those games are very distinct totally, I think Um so I can't wait for those. Me too. it's I just there are so many announcements that could have been the big headline announcement that you and I flipped out about and I can't believe this is like just one of them. And it's halfway through. we're only. That was what I That wass what I was saying. As soon as this happened, I was like, oh my God, it's only ten thirty. There's still thirty minutes left at least Yeah Um Next up was a fun twist of fate Fortun', weave. It was Nintendo Switch spports Rort. rillant Whoo Island is back. Woo Island is back I'm glad they haven't fully abandoned this because switch sports came out like five years ago And I think had a lot of excitement around it because it was like, oh, obvious. Yes. like obviously We sports, I mean, we sports is one of the best selling games because the Wi was one of the best selling consoles and it came with that Yeah. But still like W sports was like I think that If you ask anybody like what are the games from the Wi you remember most fondly, that is still one of them. It is weirdly like a Nintendo class. Yeah. And A first I thought they were just porting U We spports resort. I didn't even think it was going to be switchports. Yeah. Um, For every reason I said Switchports, my whole mouth filled with saliva. I was like swwitchports. I couldn't even say it. Anyway, Switchports resesort. It looks really fun. L it looks like I think swwitchports one That is like a hard ennunciation exercise. Switch sports one I was good, but I think like two of the sports were really fun and then they kind of got lost in the saws a little bit. I agree. Yeah. I think this shows a little bit more restraint. L obviously thumb wrestling is like bigig swing where your thumb gets bigger I'm never sh I'm just up obsessed. I love it so much. It's so good. So scary It is So scary. And there's nothing funnier than like they showed off all the sport. they showed off a bunch of Yeah. They showed off like there's new golfing. They brought back the like you could fly your plane and you're using the Joy conon to move the plane around. They have skateboarding, which was very funny because it was on grass for some reason Yeah and after they show all of these incredible sports and they show this game that really to me looks like what I wanted out of Nintendo Switch spports. Yeah if I'm being real. After all of that They were like Let's dive into one game in particular and they show five minutes of this Nintendo executive Some wrestling whichich ends with him losing. and they're like, all right, ono the next announcement. That's true. I didn'd even realize he lost. I was kind of fully dissociated at that point. It was so funny Yeah, this looks like a lot of fun. I mean, it's also funny that you like they have these kind of more like stylish, almost platoon esque me designs. Yeah Come which reminds me one of the last The last thing we heard about such sports was like you can play as a squirrel now And then that was like it was five years. But here you similar to switch sports, you can play as the new mees or the old mees And the Omies look so scaryes in this world. I love them I can't wait to thumb wrestle an old me. Yeah, they were like you can summon your friends from other Final Fantasy games and then it was like a full Final Fantasy seven remake version of clloud showing up and being like, I'm here. And then it was a little pixelie version of Cloud. Yeah. and I'm curious I'm like is that what it will be like in the game? or is this just the trailer? Yeah Be I kind of want it to all be in this style. like takes me out to like throw me into a totally different visual styles. I have seen some people say that this is very similar to or maybe even a kind of octopath Traveler Zero version of a game that was called Brave Exivus. That was a mobile game that they had. Drag Quest Monsters, The Withered World is a game that they announced during the DragonQuest dayay stream which was kind of the weirder announcement because they showed Dragon Quest twelve which was the thing that everybody was excited about And they had a full trailer for it. and they were like, but first let's after let's show you a game that's going to come out before Dragon Quest twelve And then they only showed a logo for Dragon Quest Monsters The Wered World, which has younger versions of the Final Fantasy Final Fantasy, The Dragon Quest five characters. Yeah Bianca and Nera. And. Then that was it. And I was like Okay, if we're only getting a logo for this then how long is it going to take for this to come out whichich means like Dragon Quest twelve could be like ten years away still. This is coming out december third and it looks great. It was a full trailer for it. It looked really fun It looks really goodool. They also reveal Deborah at the end, which was funy. I'm like that's for like eight people. Yeah. don't know it was really like an MCU character. You also played the Dragon Quest five DS remake where we added Deborah. Yeah. U. But so I can't wait for this. I love that they're I love those characters. I'm excited to see them as the leads here. I'm curious if it will be like You'd choose Bianca or Uh Naram. O if you switch between them. Yeah. But the Dragquuest Monster series is awesome and I'm glad it's continuing. They also I'd love this they announced new Joycon controllers that are blue and yellow to go along with this which they still are just like the accent colors that are inside of the switch it's like it's not you don't even really get to see it. likeike they they they have not incentivized at all purchasing alternative colors for the Sitch two controllers It's interesting because I feel like the switch all the time would get like it's an animal crossing themed switch. It's a Zelda themed switch And now it's like this shit is way too expensive to even bother making like yeah themed switch tos. I did see a rumor that the Occarina of Time remake is going to get switch toortion. I mean, that's the game that I think people will by like they will get for four for that like that would be their first swit Yeah do U But yees, Son Raiders look It looks so good. That's such a That's like taking the support scenes out of firem. Yeah So I'm hoping that this remaster kind of has like the best of both worlds in it, which is ironically the story. There's the first collection, the second collection and the third collection And then you can also get a collection that is one through three. Yes There is a demo of three that's going to be available, I think today as well Um, which I imagine is just to prove to people that it will run well the on the switch to. It's funny to make a demo for like an almost ten year old game. Yeah I will say also, that's another game that I played exclusively on Steam Deck, like plugged into my TV was King of Hearts three. And It ran like a dream and looked amazing. So I think if it can run well on the Seam deck, it'll probably run great on Switch two. It's also a really good looking game. Like I know we have soi mixed thoughts on King Hearts three, but like it looks great. It looks amazing. The characters look awesome. Yeah Yeah, it's a great looking game. Really stoked about that. I probably will pick this up honestly just because I think it'll be nice to the switch. And it's kind of always a dream. I mean, I'm always replaying a Kingdom Hearts game basically at all times. So I might as well be doing that on the switch veryer cool, especially considering on the original switch, they had the cloud versions, which were famously horrible. And a little Ma Culpa they did was allowing you to transfer your save files from the cloud versions into this locally playable version, which I think was the right move Um And then some could not believe that this was happening at the Nintendo Direct they were like, hereere's something new And they showed a trailer for Kingdom Hearts four. and announce that it's going to launch Day and date on Switch two So whenever it comes out on all platforms, Switch two will be one of those platforms And it was entirely non Disney world stuff. which I think is also kind of a flex that they were like, we know this will still be impactful and will blow people's minds. and we don't even need to show like Star Wars land or whatever. Yeah, at this point, I think Anyone who's excited for Kingdom Hearts four is already on booarded and they're more interested in the hoodie ensem. I think you're right An Disney Like that pitch is no longer the selling point. I think you're right about that I I feel that way. I'm like I actually like put me in a new traverse toown. Like that's actually the thing that's more interesting to me. Like like them being like there's a grogu world where Rot to the hut join the team, right? That just makes me sick. It's still going to take a while, but I think if they're showing this kind of stuff That realistically means it's probably coming sooner than we think. Yeah the announcement there's no release date. It just said available at launch on Sitch two Yeah But I could see this being like a late twenty twenty seven or maybe early twenty twenty eight game at this point. I think u I really liked this sort of historical depiction of the Dekutree and the Kokiri. I think that the narration of the vocal performananceces may be lacking a little bit. Um, But it worked for me and then it cuts to basically it's like U we see the tree, we see the Kokiri in this sort of like Histor it's like the way Wind Waker begines with like retelling kind of the historical tale And then it cuts to Link kind of shivering in his room partart of the Triiforce lights up on his hand there was one boy who didn't have a fair. Yeah U I think that this trailer in your words, would have more juice if we all didn't already know it was coming I think that this the kind of trailer that reveals that, hey, we're because also there was no release date, which shocked me. Yeah, they just said twenty twenty. twenty twenty six. That's the thing about it for me is like it's coming this year And No, not a lick of gameplay or any more concrete information. I think that you're absolutely right that this is probably just it kind of got dunked on by the fact that it had leaked early. and if it hadn't, then this would be a mic drop moment. But Personally, I was hoping for more than just this exists which is what I feel like what we got. I don't Yeah, I don't know about the specifics of it, but I have heard that that was kind of the desire was that whoever we put in place after Reggie, like We don't like we don't really need like a face for Nintendo in that way, which think I think is that feels very Nintendo to me that they're like we want the IP to speak first, you know, or like to be the focus Um And I think I would imagine a lot of the like Reggie memes were probably not I think that was more of the thing was like a lot of the memes that spawned around Reggie were probably The not Nintendo approved part of it. You know, That's aummer though, becausecause I love that area.e too. No, don't get me wr. I would much prefer Reie. And his friendship with Aada was very heartwarming. Absolutely. That gift of them just like fighting and he's like deflecting every blood So good. Yeah.. I mean, there's so much great stuff from that area. And honestly so many of those memes and all those things constantly go around or like They're so etched to my brain. Like that's all the time I've got. I need to go play Animal Crossing new Laf for the Nintendo three D S It's like one of my favorite things an executive at a company has ever said into a camera It's so funny. Also, wasn't there that screenshot where he like just like accidentally revealed he had like eight hundred hours of a dragonQuest game or something. Oh no yeah. No this was at E three one year. someomebody asked him like what game have you played the most and because like the three DS had the playtime counter. And he brought up his three DS playime counter and Dragon Quest eight had like eight hundred hours in it, exactly. That's so fun. Rocks Yeah he was a real. I remember they did give like when when the baton was passed to Doug Bowser. I do remember there was one sketch where like Bowser showed up and he's like, No, it's actually my turn Yeah This is like that was like the one time there was a regi. It was very much like we're putting the new cast member on weekend update to see how they perform. And then you never saw them in a sketch again. Yeah. overall really, really exciting direct. Amazing. like truly. I kind of got It's like when Commander Shepard touches the like Reapper tech and gets like flashed with the visions of the future. Yeah I kind of just saw my goi list like forming in real time. It's so fun I just have to say I love this kind of thing because like I woke up went and got A little breakfast because I knew I'd be sitting in front of my computer for a long time today. Yeah, I'm so hungry. And then watch the direct Immediately after that we're recording this. I have not seen anything on the internet at all. And I'm w I'm sure people fucking. I know I'm waiting for people to be like worst ereirected a decade. Like look, totally cool. if like this is a lot of these announcements are so up our alley. So It's been very interesting to watch all of those events be moderately to low percentage excited about all of them and then remember during this event how you make a good event like this. I feel like my takeaway from this whole beginning of, you know, summer is like, o, it's nice to be excited sometimes. I haven't felt like actually excited in quite. Yeah. likeike there was some againgain, you know, there's some stuff here and there from some of the other summer games a couple of things Playtation say to play it had a couple of things. likeike there's you know, the wholesome direct, all the stuff. they all have cou things here and there that I liked This was just far and away the most Dense, exciting thing and I loved it It was fun. I'm looking forward to the closed network test of Dust Loods I'm actually I legitimately the non joke version of that that you will agree with is the early access version of Final Fantasy fourteenV on Switch. Oh yeah Yeah, I I, um I famously finished a Rom reborn with Zoe Bahamet. Yeah. and I'm in the I'm in like where it gets good. Yeah in Heaven's word. and that's where I kind of fell off because it's That Final Fantasy fourXV specifically is the hardest thing to make progress in while doing this show.. Like it is just so. I'm amazed I beat. Yeah. did all of I did the weird painting, cleaning painting quests. I helped out the cat boy with heterochromia. like I did it all. There are people out there who host video game podcasts and love Fal Fantasy Xteen and my art goes out to you likeike, what an amazing feat that is to be able to do that. Yeah, it just it feels like an impossibility to me. Given it's an MMO, it just really requires you play nothing else. Yeah And we're already trying to like get into Z youo more meaningfully. Yeah. I'm playing every platform for the PS one and trying to finish F seven first lightight, et cetera.
