Bonus: Jonathan Brown's Health Scare That Changed EverythingJun 25, 2026 — starts at 0:00

Guys, please welcome. Nov alumni. He is back and it's good to see his face Jonathan Brown. Brownie. Gide to be back, all guys. Jonathan, Brown, how are you I got to start too. there's an addition to to the name tag. I'm sure it hasn't been mentioned, but good Zat. Good on your staners Congratsation. I appreciate you man. He pisted us en uil I got him. I got him. Hey you looking good? How are you feeling? I feel good. I well, I've had an alteration to my personality Clin so expecting a lot better this. Do you think it's I just wanted to tink you with a few things at brain surgery, but unfortunately I haven't fixed me golf swing because that's all I've been allowed to do for the last three months. So that's no good. I thought I'd better get back to work. Jonathan, it is good to see you looking so well, but I do not know a man with more and scars and It's in his face and his head than anyone. How's the scarle? Oh that's pretty good. It actually healing okay, isn't it? Can you take us back a few months and run us through what unfolded? Well, I had a routine just a random scan actually through the AFL actually, just for pass buers to make this clear What I eventually tell you has nothing to do with concussions, but anyway, I had that scan and then the next target at call. It was just a routine MRI and saying there's something wrong with your skin. there's a shadow on your brain. I said, what does that mean? I said, Well, it's probably a bit of fluid on your brain. M' too me drinks on Saturday night and it should be okay. but you need to get in and see a brain surgeeron ASAP. So obviously alarm bells started ringing then I went and saw the brain surgeon and he said Unfortunately you've got a brain tumor. So talk about getting a fair old wake up call. That was wake What was that? Th four days later. I know I' downplant it now because obviously the ending is good, but at the time when you get told you've got a brain tumor, potential for radiation and all those sorts of treatments post your world start spinning Yeah, I spoke to Kylie a lot, your beautiful wife during that time. and I know How difficult obviously getting that news is, but you got three kids as well and talking to the kids and then processing what's going on when you also there was so much unknown, right? And And you're so lucky that Well, it's very unlucky. you're lucky that you've had a really great result from having that tumor removed. That's right. Yeah, the first five days you. There was two things on the table, I guess, can they get it out properly? And Becauseuse it was about the size of a golf ball, so the surgeon was confident he could get to it. A surgeon Gavin Davis at Cabroni did a magnificent job. He said it's like Google maps. Like we've got a program on our computers and just we take a map over your brain and I think, G I there was something there. How amazing? He just follows the road map down to the tumor and cuts it out n medicine, science, the rest of you must sit back and marvel, particularly given the outcome Brownie, but also the love. D you you must have felt the love not just from the fory community, but from people generally Well it's heartwarming and very grateful for that. that's for sure, especially in that period Staners where I think for about five or six days I was unsure obviously the surgery was successful in terms of getting the tumor out and I don't think my personality or my certainly my movements was affected too much because I got to the eight thousand dollars question on hot seat down now after I woke up. So that's pretty cool. I thought really well, but then I she regular Gibney' the guest host. And they go, no, no, there must be something still wrong with your brain because she's been hosting for Yeah. old daught Eddy was still the host Anyway, I thought I was going right then, but there was that nervous wait for five or six days as to the severity of the tumour. and in that time I worked my way through the messages and the well wishes and tried to get back to everyone. So had plenty of time on me hand Stanner. so that was a good little distraction. Brownie, just before we move on You had no symptoms, right? It was just that you went for this kind of Yes abute brain scan. You had no idea. I know Karlie your wife's a bit wey and she wanted you to go get that brain scan as well. You had nothing. You didn't No, that's right. Well apart from a cool of cinnamon one night in the bedroom, but it was a little bit I was had I was pretty clear of symptoms and we always get a little bit stumblled we've had a couple of bees, but yeah, no symptoms. I was lucky. I did ask the surgeon what would have happened and he said it was more likely the way you would have found it was You'd had a stroke or a Wow. So we loto ticket. It is just a really important reminder though, to stay on top of things and just your generally. Just those routine checks that we sometimes think that wait that can wait. You just don't know what Luren and my wife chipping awayait me for months and last Friday I went and got the full medical. Good on Good job, mant? You haven't come back to tell us if he's got a brain yet or wa inconclusive. Yeah this gu driving this mass so Brownie back to work. It does that feel good getting back to it Oh so good. Yeah, well, I was just stuck at home. So the first few weeks were okay. So Well we were stuck in Melbourne for a few weeks me and Kylie, so that was like a little ye, a little holiday away from the kids. It was a bit like we're on our honeymoon except we weren't allowed to actually do anything. She came I had it waled We tried gardens about four times a day. and then eventually we had to go in and see the kids. Coll was absolutely spewing about that. She said, okay, you have more brain surgeries in Melbourne so. Well, I did have one day out with her JB when she was like, I need a day off being nurse and on the girls group ch. She was like, Hey girls, I know we've got this girl's one Who wants to nominate their husbands to babysit JBounds like Pul and JB can sit on the couch and watch horse racing all day And I think Brown dog came around bies at me because I wasn't allowed to be left on my own I'm off all people Campbell Brown to comeing and I think you're safer on your own to be honest. I think I would have I. Lucky survived that, but it was it was nice and it was nice to getting home to see the kids. It was a bit it was a bit scary, but now it's time to get back to a little bit of work. So the podcast, Fox Foty, all the rest of it Absolutely. so. Big finish to the years How good this. You start at round fifteen. I come into work. Eone's gased and they're worn out and I'm just excited againee's more footy. looking forward to hopefully my Brisbane lines will make a bit of a resurgence, but the comp's pretty even and there's a couple of new coaching jobs. So you know, Jeez, I could put my hand up for Card and. Have you caught up with your old mate Vossie I did. Vos playing How was he? Voss was one of my walking mates in Melbourne. So he was he was actually better company than Brown Dog. I know he's good. He's actually really good at you know what? It's amazing when they get out of the game. justust how much the stress just leaves their body. He just he looked bright in the eyes, he looks happy. Good on it. the other day Whit Oh back down good Sone it goes around to actually I probably shouldn't say the gym. It's one of those nice Yeah That's why she saw him there C fure. He works out a lot harder than I did. Yeah, wrong.y Brown, it's bloody good to see you, mate. and I no doubt would have been a tough couple of months, notot only on you, but Kylie and the kids as well to see you guys come out the other side.
