Spirits are not sold in Virginia and North Carolina. Drink responsibly must be twenty one. Rock bottom . Oh, you bet you stays. Let's hear it. So the Red Sox have made the wrong kind of history here today . One and one to Durbin the pitch down and in this is the first time since nineteen oh one that the top three hitters in any lineup ever have struck out three times the first three times twenty five years nineteen oh one. A lot of baseball. Yeah, that's a lot of baseball. A lot of baseball of that line yesterday around this time we all went to therapy . Our colors flooded the lines one by one ripping this red sox team that now has them se ated at twelve games under five hundred with no hope in sight in a season of awfulness the Sox were at the peak of their awfulness yesterday. So that's why when Red Sox president Sam Kennedy called into Greg Hill show this morning . The last one anyone wanted to hear was excuses . Yeah, look, I think it's important here at the outset, Greg, just to acknowledge before we get into all that just embarrassing and unacceptable , maddening, frustrating, whatever words you want to use the past two and a half months have been there's no way to sugarcoat it. It's been awful , especially when you consider the stated goal of building upon what happened last season . So I just, you know, before getting involved in terms of the day to day of the club, taking a step back, zooming out , it's been incredibly frustrating. And I just want to acknowledge that right at the outset. And it's on all of us. We have to get better . And I just wanted to say that. Did you guys hear the morning premiered it? Yeah, he did. Boy, he diffused it. He did make statement. Wow. The question was about something completely different crochet I think. Yeah, it was about injuries and he goes before we go anywhere yeah, let me just say this. So I will give Sam Kennedy this. He has been tone deaf on many occasions this season. I mean, especially the old well I guess you're the doctor thing he muttered when he was questioning about the Roman Anthony injury , but he did understand the assignment this morning. He knew that there was no possible way he could with this team, he could not come on this station and try to silver line any of it what's going on right now. Embarrassing. Yeah , it was and he didn't. He's gone. Some of his answers weren't the best, but at least he fell on the sword repeatedly and didn't fight back against accusations of organizational incompetence. To your point, there's nothing from that interview that has made it worse. Yeah. If Rock Bottom was yesterday, we didn't have a new load this morning. So he did a good job. He did a good job of answering in the manner in which he had to, not that he gained any f avor. I'm not sure they went up in any direction, but it is I mean I know you have a lot to get to in the interview. It is curious the crochet diagnosis, which he deflected there. He eventually got to it. Yeah, but for crochet to tell Pete Abraham, we mentioned this at the end of the yesterday show that it's a lot worse than we thought and no idea when he might throw again. Yeah is another Roman Anthony. It's like Roman Anthony Part two with the medical stuff it's just confounding . It's the downplaying of injuries, which if you're a player, obviously , you despise anyone who makes it sound like you are either dogging it or it's not as bad as it actually is. Can you understand why the team might do that though? Why the team might exaggerate it or not tell the whole truth or be positive with some of these injuries? Now, why do you think it is? I think it's to sell tickets. I think it's to keep your opponents pre sold, right? I mean, how much walk up do you need at Fenway ? I mean, maybe like future tickets for the fall or next year or something like that. I mean, you're not wrong. That's like the first thing you think of that's the first thing I think of is that they just want to keep us people, you know, engaged, buying tickets , making plans to come see the the socks in the summer that they don't want to give any bad news to discourage people from buying tickets. That's that's the that's the only thing I can think of that would that's why they're doing it. It's sunshine and roses. It's it's trying to make things seem like they're not as bad as they actually are. And that's why this morning with Sam Kennedy at least some either either he was smart enough to figure it out or somebody got to him and said the last thing you need to do this morning is paint any kind of rosy picture or any kind of hope. I want you to get up there. It's doom, it's gloom, it's as bad as you think it is. And for that, I actually was like, okay, this is the first interview that I've heard a little bit of humility from Sam Kennedy. We admit we have a problem. Yes, exactly. That's part, I mean, that's huge. I don't know if I've heard that tone from Sam. Like where he wanted to make sure that he told everybody how disappoint ed they are. Now hey, words are nice, you know, actions, you know, we'll see but right for them he followed up with Theo Epstein is now involved in our office that would have been the next counterpoint yeah yeah yeah well he ended up addressing it as well . They asked him about why you miss why he mischaracterized Roman Anthony's injury . And finally, we got this answer. Let's take a listen. Well, it's a listen, I need to own up to my mistake. I mean, I was unequivocal in my response to you regarding Roman and his situation . Apparently I missed that day at Harvard Medical School shouldn't be sitting here talking about a sprain, you know, a sprain is a tear . And you know, was reading off of a report that identified the sprain. And anyway, listen, Roman is doing everything he can to get back and get better. Putting timetables on baseball injuries really, really hard. That's why we try not to do it. And then when we don't do that, it sounds evasive and like we'reing dodg it. So I apologize for my mistake there. I've communicated with Roman about that. That's all good. Most important is he's doing the work to get him back. And in terms of Garrett , unfortunately , you know, he's dealing with a lat issue. Again, I'll stop there. If anything, I learned can learn from my mistakes in terms of putting timetables or getting into details. That's not my role and so I'm not going to do it. But I know it's killing him and killing Roman to not be out there, but hopefully they'll be able to get back out there soon enough and help us get this thing back on track. You know what I got out of that the most is when he said I communicated with Roman on that . So it sounds like Roman was pissed. Yeah. Like that was a real conversation. Yeah, and you can tell the way he talked to Rob Bradford. Oh man, you say, you know, kind of just to be clear, I mean you're basically you're talking to Sam Kennedy. Okay , dude, when you when you talk about things that you don't know about, it makes me look like I'm not a tough guy. And that dude,, I mean to me the whole Sim Kitty was just an innocent mistake. He thought he, you know, he didn't realize the semantics, but he learned his lesson the hard way. He will never my guess is ever talk about injuries again. Kennedy here can just can discuss medical diagnosis That's gone. Like that was gone this morning. I mean, he sounds, that's the one thing about Sam Kennedy. He just comes across as so cocky and so condescending in these interviews and this was the first time where he was just like, dude, it does me no good to do that because right now it's as bad as you think it is. And at least that's step one, isn't it? Is like having some sort of humility but you got to back it up? You gotta back it up with doing something and he was asked about Craig Breslow because right now Craig Breslo is in the crosshairs. Everyone, I mean, all these articles being written about how he needs a translator sign ready for Fenway tomorrow. I'm Craig Breslow. Tell me what you think about my GM . It's true. On top of that, it just it sounds like, you know, there's rumors as to whether or not he's going to last, you know, I mean I predicted that if they got swept by Tampa Bay and they ended up being, you know, as far back as they were, that that could be the end of Craig Breslow. It has not happened yet . Chevy trucks have you covered when the road takes you from smooth sailing too C.hevy Colorado will eat up some of the toughest terrains with five available drive modes, and Silverado and Silverado HD have the muscle to take you out for some series . Leads brought to you by Subaru and Subaru Summer is finally here. You can get details at Subaru of no nder. com. Okay, Shawn, what do you got for us this morning? Good morning, Greg. Well, yeah earlier you guys talked about the Red Sox and the communication breakdown or whatever is going on with Eric Crochet , but I wanted to call into attention that the Red Sox broke a record yesterday, Greg. A record that's been held since nineteen oh one . This is from Tom Karen over at Nessen . This is the first time in the modern era era since nineteen oh one that a team's number one, number two and number three hitters have each struck out three times in each of the three first aplayed appearances in the game. So your first three hitters yesterday were so good. They struck out each time they faced Drew Rasputes for the first the three at bats that they had like it was so bad this offense at times is like putrid s it's I don't even know how to actually describe it because it's been the worst I've ever seen a Red Sox offense. Now they did end up like battling back a little bit late there but, couldn't quite make the full the full comeback there . So, you know, I just want to say Drew Rasputes and I believe also had a career high in strikeouts in that game. I think he had thirteen . So you, know, if you're strikeout thirteen tim es to him, maybe I don't know, don't ather professional laders, I don't understand why they're so so bad . Well, I'll tell you what's in play and I was I was talking about this last night at dinner with a with a friend of mine who really used to care an awful lot about the organization for a for a really, really, really long time . Guy used to love the organization de,ep in his heart . What's in play is a hundred losses for the first time since nineteen sixty five. My god they are twenty what are they twenty seven and thirty nine or seven twenty seven and thirty nine . And so we're well past the first third of the season . And so and Bresbot loves analytics statistically continues this way. They'll end up with one hundred and seventeen L's on this season . So things are looking not so good over there. This probably worse than the Bobby V the RAPs, right? Yeah. It feels that way because at least at that time , at least as I remember it, Curtis, maybe you feel differently . There was the feeling of if they sucked horribly one year . They were going to really try to push the next year and be back and be competitive again. I don't really feel that way now. Yeah. And you also had in that year, you had Padrea and I think Eucalus was still on that team standing up saying this is n't how we do things basically an open mutiny against Bobby Valentine , whereas now you lose Korra , you bring in Tracy who I guess I was duped. I li thek guedy when we talked to him and I thought he was this is a collection of guys that despise the people they work for . And it is the worst elements of the collapse of twenty eleven with the Bobby V year into one and we're not even into July . This is such a team. I say, I mean, I don't know if there's a better word. It's just loathsome. Like there's nobody I root for I think the players openly bitching about coral leaving , the players openly mocking the front office, the players that are, you know, out and injured for months on end , the dishonesty of the front office. I'm sorry. I mean, you can't tell me that Roman Anthony didn't have a sprain or a tear or mock the quest and then have the guy that's actually suffered the injury mock you and like I just the whole group and now you have in consecutive weeks you have the Breslo heit piece by Healy and then a week later you have the Healy His Job Safe Story both in the globe. There's another one in the globe just you know Alex Spear talked to a bunch of rival evaluators ? Yeah, like executives some of the quotes were describing the Red Sox as punchless . I can't believe they're content going with so many AA players, utility infielders at the bottom of the lineup, a lot of guys who on the team who satisfy the model, but are role players who are being overexposed. Yeah. So it's almost like they brought up the Woo Socks to play at Fenway. Yeah. And then you got Mar cello Meyer , who woke up yesterday morning with stiffness . I remember what that used to be like, Curtis . And these things are healthy and can't northeast men's health and he can't play right like okay, is that because he finally hit the ball twice at back to back games and then he's stiff like I don't know or is it because of the drive line stuff? Is it because they have those guys hitting way too much ? Well like way too much . So why does it the drive line affect other players with injuries ? If so many teams are using it in baseball , why I don't know. Why does it seem like it's only the Red Sox players who physically well lou said, you know, the report was not a he thought it was bogus, but there was some speculation that it was the drive line guys who made Roman Anthony go back and dry swing and and that led to the if you buy that he reinjured that or made it worse or whatever that led to that. So I don't know . It's a disaster though . one hundred and seventeen losses on the way. If I were part of if I was the smallest minority investor in Portney's pursuit of the Red Sox, which I think may be happening behind the door closed doors . I would say get rid of everybody. Yeah , front office players , there is not a redeemable soul for me. Is there a player or two that you would not get rid of? No . Get a little crochet. No, not crochet. Yeah. Out for the entire season. The guy's missed a couple seasons already. He's not even twenty eight. Yeah. Audios . And what about Roman Antony? No, thank you. Okay. What? Yep. You're giving up on Roman Anthony completely. I mean, I said and I felt like I was early on it, but I hope I'm not right. A couple of weeks ago that I felt like this is a lost season for him, but I don't think he's a flop of a career. It's june eleventh, he has one more home run than James. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's a lost season. Right. I don't think that I don't think he's not going to be a great ball player. I mean, if you missed the playoffs last year, I mean, he wasn't there with the so you're fully out on Roman Anthony as a red socks going Red Sox player going forward. Rick said is there anybody I would keep? I'm saying there's nobody that I would be like, no, I can't lose on this team. Sell it all. Sell it all. Sell everything. Burn it to the ground.. Wow Put us put a sign on it. And what do they do when they throw a couch out at the call it a Morgan Wallet? Oh, you're talking about the end of the driveway. Yeah, say free take it curbside giveaway. That's how you get bed bumps. I would not do that. Yeah. So the Mega, we remember Curtis went from Rome wasn't built in the day to him. No, I was Rome . Rome wasn't built. Oh, I know that was your biggest thing, but Curtis is like selling. Roman's how far the has he fallen ? Well, I don't think Mego or I came up with Rome was a built in the day. No, I came up with Yeah, it was Mega's Mego's point. Take our time Jones and Keith you're on a top five Friday. You can seek those out at Jones and Keith on Twitter and Instagram, our top five all time tag teams in honor of the Hardy Boys who will be joining us in studio at one o'clock today Friday four pack on the way about fifteen minutes from now. You just heard an oral this Chapman highlight. Why would we play that? The Red Sox hardly ever use them . They hardly ever win these days I don't need them. Well, it turns out Araldus Chapman openly discussing a return to the Yankees with Miguel Rojas of ESPN De Portez and well here's what we had to say, Keith. Yeah, if the Red Sox decide to trade Chapman writes R,o jas . It's unlikely they'll send him within their own division, especially to the rival Yankees. Right. But if it were to happen, Chapman knows what would have to happen to him to feel comfortable returning to New York. Chapman believes Yankees GM Brian Cashman owes him an apology for how his time ended with the Yankees in twenty twenty two. Now I did not remember this , but what went down that season is first of all, he wasn't very good on the field. He had a four hundred forty six ERA . So a different chapman than what we're seeing now. He was dealing with a left leg infection. When I was reading up on this, it sounded somewhat familiar resulting from a tattoo that he got. Oh, yeah. Bad tattoo, bad, bad needles, bad tat. Yeah, you got to go to a replace with clean needles, leg infection, bad season . So he lost the job to Clay Holmes and Chapman was after actually left off the playoff roster when he missed a mandatory team practice at Yankee Stadium before the AL Division series. He went to Miami . He claims it was approved . Cashman said it was not. He accused him of insubordination. Chapman told Rojas, what happened happen if something like this were to happen, meaning get traded to the Yankees, I believe someone from the organization should apologize. First, he said when asked whether Cashman, was that someone, Chapman replied, Yes. Yeah . Well, first of all, I'd like to know what the tattoo was of great question. I don't know that cost him some time there, but yeah, this is really is insane. Now it would matter a lot more if we were more invested in the team, right? And I guess the question probably wouldn't even come up if the team was so bad . So there's like a little bit of that. But it's just so strange overall. Even the team is bad talking about any kind of reunion with another team or even like playing with another team, let alone the hated rival, right? Like come, on. Like that is that, is pretty bad. I don't know the Yankees, but the better apologies are like he can't control the questions, but he can be like, I pitch for the Red Sox, like do like I pitch for the Red Sox, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But like this whole thing like, well Cashman owes me an apology and like I would or not like no , it's awful. It'd be such a bigger deal if people were really into this Red Sox team, but obviously that ship is sailed. Would you train them to the Yankees? Yeah, oh yeah, if they if they offer me the most whatever like if you think it's the best trade package, one hundred percent you go there. That's how I feel about it. But I guess it's still off putting to hear him talking about it. Like what I trade him to the Yankees for the best return, definitely . That's all they should care about, especially you, Bresl ow, all you should care about is getting the best return. Maybe that saves your ass, probably not, but maybe. Well, who knows if he stays there the next year because it's like a mutual option right also who knows look I would trade him there if it's the best return assuming it's the best ret urn. That's all the Red Sock should care about. If he goes and wins with the Yankees, then I guess it's egg on your face, but I don't know, I'm not really overly afraid of that and your only focus should be getting the best return. It's still off putting to have him these conversations while he's a member of the Red Sox , while they're maybe ready to trade and maybe not like it's not even like we're at the deadline. Loser to the deadline I'd be like, All right , maybe I still be annoyed. That was like a single major trade . June twelfth though, june twelfth and he's like, sure I'd go to the Yankees. Apologize just throw bullpens. They don't use him. Use them every ten days. Did also complain about that? You want to get to that? This is in the story as well. That's pretty funny. He says every day you see social media and also people in the press talking about or commenting about it, Chapman told the SPN deportes about the rumors of being dealt with the deadline. He says, I have no control. At the end of the day, I have no control over that. And I'm just focusing on being able to play even though I'm not playing much right now. He is not I'm trying to focus on that or trying to get the job done when it's my turn. He sounds annoyed that he's not pitching at all, which I don't really blame him for, but add that to the list too, like okay, what's going on in the clubhouse ? What are the young players up to Are they focused on the wrong things off the field? Is Narvias pissed about his situation? Clearly Bayo was pissed about his situation a year ago. Yeah. Now this guy's like I don't even pitch here. I don't even want to be here anymore because we suck and I don't pitch. So I have that to and he's so good like you don't see him very often but he has been nails once again . He's probably the best closer in baseball right now. I mean, you could make the argument for Mason Miller, but Chapman's ERA is better. They doesn't pitch as much as last thirty days, he has gone to a game seven times . That's oh thirty days he's out . So dating back to may thirteenth to now has been seven games. He has nineteen under twenty innings pitched seven. Thank you. I was like, Wh theere hell is stake? Yeah,. Well sorry, I'm doing something. Yeah . He's got thirteen saves four six ERA and twenty appearances. These other guys around him twenty eight, twenty nine appearances. Here's a reason to hold out until the trade deadline for the world is Chapman Keef.e And you make a good point. He could get hurt. He's going bad tattoo. Who gets another bad tattoo ? Who's your all star? If you tried it before the All Star Break, who's your all star? Can it still be him? Like we're actually going to have him slide over . If it's not him Contraus Yes Piana countdown the other day they had a bra you no shot it's a bra you feel like people at Ray He watched them in a month if they're saying a bra you yeah I think it might be contransferris or like could you make an argument because you remember last year now he was more of a phenom but like Mizarrowski start he like played in the game you like barely post like totally totally like one of those guys like here's a young guy I don.'t I don't think so probably not They're not taking over like the Miz did. I don't think so. No , I mean, if he was pitching that lights out and he was that much of an attraction, I would advocate for it. Yeah, I like Payton Tolly. I don't think he's been that and early definitely hasn't been no probably not. Actually, Connolly Early is twelfth in the American League in ERA. So you could you could make a case for him that better than I thought. Yeah, I still wouldn't imagine he's an all star. He doesn't feel like he's having an all star.' Buts always there like all due respect like Brock Holt like they find a way to get somebody on there and even if like the stats don't jump out at you like you're the representative. I would argue Wilson Contreras, but like what's the field at first base ? Oh like Like Vladi's not having a good year. Trust me, no home runs. Vladi doesn't having a great year. He just has no power. Okay, so he is having a good year. I would say Nick Kurtz, Ben Rice and Ben Rice and maybe Cont raze. Yeah. Yeah, so maybe he warms his way in. Yeah, you might have to hold on the Catraus just so you have an actual communist twenty home runs. That's the most in American League first basement. Carrely. Yeah, no Catrus probably would be the guy he's having a better year than Peter Alonzo . Do you think you're close to I definitely think. I am very interested because we are down at Fenway right now. I'm very interested to see what the crowd reaction is going to be because this team has had a lot of low points. They've never been this low, not just statist , but also with even Sam Kennedy coming out and just saying, I can't make any excuses anymore. This team's absolutely awful. Like even ownership, not ownership, but even management is saying what we've been saying for what seems like forever about this team is that they don't seem to have any hope. As a matter of fact, this whole hey, they're going to try to do whatever they can to get some sort of big bat in here. I think the term that Sam Kennedy used was we might be pivoting it's my phrase might be pulling a Ken Laird pivot and not be going down that road which means yay this season is going to stink and they're relying on Roman Anthony Garric Rosche to come back and it doesn't sound like Garic Roche is coming back anytime soon and Roman Anthony, that's just when there's no news about anything and that, you know, even Chad Tracy just doesn't have the best face when you ask him about it.
