Like that That's a different level. We' We're not on that level yet. Yeah for sure. I think we made those connections when we got the steam controller Yes. Hopefully we can get to that level one day. But we did get you know early access to a piece of hardware, the steam machine. Yeah gotot it yesterday. We also made the mistake of not unboxing it. Yeah we got excited. Me and Andy looked at each other like small kids like all Christmas came early. Oh my gosh, open it up And it was great because like as you were opening it up, I had the thought and I was like, fuck it. I gott be hest I got to be honest. I was so excited. I was like, it doesn't matter.u super pump. So Roger, The steam machine home last night and we were all kind of able to, you know, mess around with it yesterday throughout the day, not in a very serious way, but you know, kind of getting in the gears and all the settings and things like that. And so you were able to take it home last night. You mess around with it for a bit, notot a whole lot because you got you got a personal life you gott to deal with, right? just dealing l getting married you know this guy's getting married soon Um So I want you to show me, Roger. other side Okay. I want you to show me why this thing is worth a dang or whether it's not worth a dang. Yeah, I don't know a dang Yeah. Is what they say a thousand dollars? Well, it's becausecause no sponsors. or like we're sponsors we can say bad words. Oh, yeah, high on left too. No first words. It's No first words whatsoever. Yeah, man, this has been a weird one for me because I have been the person in the office that has been like between about talking about it The steam machine could save me. It could change my life is what I kept on feeling for years. not years, months. I'm right there with you But like I felt like this thing could solve a big issue in my gaming situation right now because when I was younger, I was ye, of course, you can play around it. I obsessed with playing games on my PC at my you know, little monitor when I had a small little room living with my parents, like gaming was preferably being on a PC on a monitor But as I've gotten older, as I've moved into my own apartment, I am exclusively a gamer on the living room. and I haven't been able to really get back into my gaming PC gaming flow as much because, you know, PC gaming in the living room isn't that great. But in your mind, you go pair this with the steam Dck experience. Wow, we're cooking. Exactly right So when it came to the steam deck, I got it immediately right as soon as I can get it. I was obsessed. I loved it. And over the last few years, I start to fall not out of love with it, but it's just a little bit older, right? Like a little bit heavier. I don't have the OLEed version. So any time I play a game and I'm like, you know, it doesn't run awesome, of course. Yeah. And then I hear Greg Which is, you know, always take with a grain of salt whether Greg says something runs well. It's like he thoughti S survivor was amazing. It's like when my mom would look at our four K TVs back and there they'd be like, yeah it looks the same like No it doesn't. No. But you hear Mike and Greg talk about, well, I mean, it actually looks and runs really great on my machine. I'm like, Yeahah, well, you do have faster powerowered machines. and I don't have that right. Yeah, exactly. So I like my steam deck, but I've been trying to, you know, have that as a docked experience.idn't really work out as well, right? Game start stuttering doesn't look great on four K recently I have the ROG Allied that's been really great dooc, but still looking for that at home PC console like experience. And I gott to be honest, like just playing with this thing, especially after the whole memory loss situation that we're in right now, how expensive RM is, how this thing is a thousand dollars over a thousand dollarsvastate without a controller even Um Just kind of a sad experience playing around with this. Not because it's bad, right? I think this is a fine piece of hardware. I think this is like something that is totally serviceable for the super entry level, someone that really does not want to deal with having to build a computer has no kind of history in hardcore PC gaming like that. It's more of just what the situation is right now with that price at all and the price point. And let me just sum it up really quick right now, right? is that H me with it. ith the Steam deck, right? We picked up that steam deck for the first time. Tinkering with all the games was such a joy. Not because it could get to that four K and get to these insane framewates, justust because getting a game to run at all. got that on the I got Cyberpunk to run on a steam deck crazy. fucking crazy is that this, it is the opposite experience where you're booting up games, they don't look great You go to the settings and you're like, well, this is a thousand dollars console. It says four K on their website. I should be able to try to get to four K, right? Oh, doesn't really get to four K the way I wanted to. Okay, well now I'm in the settings trying to figure out how to get to six sixty FPS. Of, now it doesn't look good. Okay, well now what if I drop it down? Of now I have to go down to medium? Well a thousand dollars console. Why do I have to go from high to medium That feels like not great. Okay I'm fiddling. Yeah, I'midding. I'm not playing the game. Right is why I didn't want to get one of these. Exactly. You get one to not fiddle. Exactlyddenly you' fdling. Exactly. and especially this is a review unit, right? Like this is a review unit. This is early on in the process. I'm sure we know we know that they're going to sorry they'reing theroller. Oh. we know that steam is so great when it comes to updates and making sure that things run better I am just really just from a baseline, skeptical of the adoption rate of this because it's so expensive. and also the adoption rate therefore of the developers. R? Like are the developers going to put the time and effort to do a cyberpunk where Cyberpunk literally has a steam deck preset I don't think so. I don't think we're going to get that for the wide variety of games having a steam machine presets. And I think I'm just a little bit like you don't think sad about that. You don't think, you know, developers that may be I would say right now as we keep on Ch chat, Ch loveving this cover. Let's play something I would love for you to boot up four to ride and six. Okay. This is the biggest. This is the biggest one that's kind of making a lot of waves on the internet because that video with Linus tech tips. He's looking at and going fifteen frames per second. That was not our experience yesterday. Not at all. No, not at all. No. So I don't know what What's happening maybe configuration wise? on his machine or maybe he was trying to get four K native or something Yeah, Which I could certainly understand, only getting fifteen frames per second because we had a lot of experiences yesterday, trying to run something at four K native Getting twenty two frames per second. Yeah, getting, you know, thirty one frames per second or whatever Yeah, the the thing with The thing what the steam machine is Like you mentioned, supposed to sort of change our life and how we interact with games, right? Yeah. It removes steps for somebody who's got the money. to want those steps removed. Yeah The steps for me would be Not only do my can a lot of my games run on this machine But I don't have to do the steam deeck dock into the TV And in that case, Tim goes, well, why don't you just plug in your PC into the TV? And that's a Like, I know Look, I know I can be very hyperbolic when I talk about you know, settings and you know, I may see stuff that you go, Andy, it looks fine. donon't worry about it. There's nothing more annoying to me than plugging in a desktop PC into a TV. Yeah. and having to deal with the monitor stuff and having to switch over to the keyboard or the mouseang and looking at my why's not showing up got Like that is That is enough of an experience. is enough That is annoying enough of an experience to make me go, I want to pay the premium amount to not have to deal with that. Sure. And this is going to be a very niche product Yeah. This is not this is not for everybody's, you know, current buying situation. This is not going to float everyone's boat. Oh, you never seen this You thought the car would blow up? I knew it I knew you thought that. I knew you thought that. It's the little of this game I play You know, I think when we played this outside, we played Fort Horizon six outside, we're actually pleasantly surprised by a lot of the experience. Yeah, because actually recently I booted up Forton Horizon on the ROG Ally and that ran fine. O of course I means RG All. I'm not trying to compare these two necessarily, but that took a lot more tinkering. this is right now, let's actually look at this say before o. Now it' dropping. Let's see what we're at Yeah're I think might it might have reset what we were doing here. yeah So let's see what settings we're at. Now here and now here's where Now here's where the annoyances come in This is where I start becoming much less of a defender of this for the casual market Not for me. I'm a tinker. I don't m tinkering. I love tinkering U It's the ease of use comes from I turn on my steam controller Bam, my thing's on. It's on's rock. Let's play the game. You're fine with tinkering. You just don't want to deal with the bullshit to get to the game With the hardware. Yeah, the hardware sort of thing or whatever. And this is where casual market people may go, why am I buying this if I'm still having to do all of the bullshit when I can play this on console And bam, I'm ready to rock. And here we're ready in a situation where we go, ooh, we're not quite getting sixty. What can we do to try to get sixty? becausecause my Xbox sereries X gets sixty. Y. My PlayStation five running forth or rise of five gets sixty. Y. Wh not this? And this is where you might have to go into, oh, well maybe drop that down to low Maybe get this down to or whatever. and I don't know, maybe they try to come up with something that they do with their controller schemes. Yeah Valve says,ope didid you hear me say this? I said the exact same thing to Blessing or That's so funny. Yeah, yeah, continue what they were saying. Yeah. So you know, the way Valve works with a lot of their, you know, their're very community focus, obviously. and Whenever you have a controller and you're trying to play a game on controller, you could go to community. controlll schemes where I could put up my controller scheme whenever people ask me when I'm playing aouls game. And what are you using your back paddles for? I put Dodge on this, I put this on this and I actually put attack on L one. and I could put up that profile, people can download that.. And I think it would be really cool if in the future Valve says What if we could do community settings? where Alex Pataglely from Digital Foundry goes into the game and sees Here's what We can minmax this. you and I shaarered the same brain. I literally said the exact same thing to Bing. Yes, that' what they need, but I think that that is such a big initiative. And it kind of sucks, quote unquote, that that is where we're at a little bit with this thing, right? whereere it's like, again, with the steam deck, it is so much easier to just get like, okay, well, the game's running, so I'm good Right With this, it's like, man, you really have to because right now The biggest thing that I am having issues with is FSR. And I'm happy that it exists. I'm happy with there's competitor to DLS, I'm happy have with Intel, XESS. But as we just saw, we were at about fifty five frames earlier, fifty four frames when I was on performance mode, right? So I just went to ultra performance mode, which makes the game drops the game down to I don't know what the internal resolution is probably like six eighty year Yeah, and it's a big jump compararely to performance to ultra performance. You'll see a lot of that blurriness and a lot of that the artifacting there. I look at the the top go to anti alias and turn on I think it turns off the other ones, but we can try that So yeah, if you do thats It turns off. Resolution scaling. W. Yeahah, fascinating. So I mean, okay, well that does make sense, but I was just wondering why they were separate. Yeah, for sure. So whatever. Again, I went from old performance to ultra performance, right? which seems like a big jump and we are getting Sub sixty stone Like that is the that is the biggest flaw of this where this is the latest FSR technology and you don't get that big jump like a DLSS where you are able to do the thing, drop the thing and oh, now I went from, you know, sixty FDS to one hundred twenty, like pretty much. like you could do those huge jumps without even generating frames necessarily And even with this with no frame frame generation, of course, we're still not at sixty. and it's just that is the stuff that kind of like makes you a little bit sad, especially when this is a thousand dollars. and this is they're not going to get another one next year, right? We're not going to get an upgrade kit for this next year. This is going to be the steam machine for the next five to six years if they ever make a another number And I just don't know how I can again, this is a free flowing conversation, but I don't know how I can recommend this to ninety nine point nine percent of gamers out there. if you can buy a PS five. If you can build your own, which Steam is out here, you know, giving Steam OS for free, where you can, you know set up basically st machine, which is great Great, super, I think they understand what this is. I don't think they would have pushed this and said that, hey, we're doing this. we're giving it out for free. So like with the release of Steam machine, if they knew that this was, you know, they know that this is not going to be as good. This is not going to be the answer for most people. And I think that honestly, they're just trying to get the stock off of the shelves. Yeah. then this they're eventually going to try to hopefully not lose as much money. You know, I promise you I'm not trying to do the won't you think of the multib billion dollar company But they they were put, you know, their backs were against the wall and they're like, what are we going to do with this? Yes. Pices are not going to come down on hardware anytime soon. And if we continue to not put this out, it's going to get more and more outdated. Yeah. I could have recommended if this is somebody who says, I'm not a tinkerer. Yeah. I want an easier experience for The seven hundred fifty rumored price that they were thinking of Yeah. I could have recommended it that, but for one thousand, I just don't think I can do that. No. I saw Zach in the chat say, D you know Roger Mouall like this? I mean, this is like what I do in private.. I love tinkering. Tink Tim and I always connect on just working on some bullshit project, I'm trying to get streaming working or whatever. L this is honestly, Lanza has to stop me somet Its like it's a problem Wh where she looks at me she's like, arere you trying to fix something? or you just play the fucking game? I'm like, yeah, but this is the fun. You know what I mean? Like I look frustrated and I am, but I'm having a lot of. Roger, me, me and my dad take about forty minutes to start a movie whenever I visit my parents back home. Yeah. And it's always even worse if my mom's like watching a movie with us because it's like Is yeah Dolby Yeah, hold on. Hold on. hold on hold on. I sure the backs speakers are louder or whatever. I did see somebody asking for us to show off Oh Full ray tracing on Resident evil fucking wish Yeah. You fucking wish. Yeah. No. We did have a couple of no. This is still a device that needs more support, I would say. Yes from not only, you know, Valve trying to nail down exactly what they think should be certain settings or whatever for their video games or for the different games out there. but I would love I would love to see more love from AMD because it really feels like if your game doesn't have the ultra performance mode, that then you may be out of luck for some titles. And again, this is still a PC that's core It is still a computer and it can still be a very mixed bag. There will be some titles that will run fine on balance or performance mode. There will be some titles that will be at sub sixty frames per second on performance mode. And then you go to ultra pererformance and you're at sixty five now. Y. And It's like, wow, I don't know the difference is there But something's like off here, right? And it does feel like a device that is not going to be the The problem hassle free catch all solution that we have. Especially for four K, right? And I saw some people, let me just try and anwer some questions. I saw some people asking me about Plex and everything. I would this is not worth it. L I'm sure you can figure out Plex and figure out how to make this your home media server and do all that jazz but like you can get a MacBook mini and do that, which is what I do. I just have a MacBook mini that runs Plex, that does my whole home theater, home video streaming setup at home. But to go over here, I saw people talking about fourteen forty. this is fourteen forty p now. Yeah. And I think that this is the better pitch for this console. and I do wish that they focused on this and the marketing. I understand four K is the big buzzword. is This series S was kind of pitching itself as like we could be the fourteen forty p machine, which it isn't. It's a ten eighty machine Yeah. But this could be the fourteen forty p machine because yeah, seventy eight, eighty two frames per second of course was dropping down when you were going crazy. I think this game also in general doesn't have great Linux legs. It's not really the most consistent players a lot of We've seen this with a lot of games like wasing We could boot it up later, but I have aat Lgo Batan on here in this game. Batan runs like shit on PC in general, but specifically Linux. Now what were you forty people looks good? What FSR are you on right now? This is ultra performance.. So let's drop it down. I do think it will still be around here just because of the thinge bualetsy. But you know I would love to see balanced because Typically When you have a You see it feels like there's no change in a pS. You know what I mean? Like it is but visually much cleaner. Oh of course. I can see that immediately And that could be the solution because granted you know I love four K. I love sitting right in front of my thirty two inch four K monitor. When I'm sitting eight, ten feet away from a TV., I'm definitely tougher to decipher four K from four thousand fourteen forty p. Yes. And again, this all sounds like I'm a hardcore depending the machine. I just for the thousand dollars, it really does feel like we got to put this sucker out there. Yeah This whole, you know, let's put out Steam OS for a lot of people. that excites me a lot. But I'm in a very privileged position where I hear that steM OS thing and I think to myself, well I have extra parts and I can do this. Well it's also it's a pain in the ass to play games out in the studio. Yeah. What if we could make our own StEM OS? Ohice tr with a leftover forty, seventy that we have or leftover thirty, ninety or whatever, or forty or whatever the hell. You know leftover parts we could frrank and sign together could make our own Steam OS that would be more powerful inness, granted wouldn be the form factor. because that is one really attractive thing about device. Even the smallest of min ITX cases, you're not gonna get to this size. It is a beautiful small silent silent quiet. Yeah, I was playing it last night I wouldn't say cramped, but I have a semi know cramped situation at home when it comes I have like my Apple TV on top of it. I have like a fucking switch right next to it. It' completely silent the entire time. Felt like it was getting a lot of airflow. fans out the Wazoo. This is a beautifully designed piece of hardware. Yeah, it's I love everything about it. I love the look of it. I just It is just You can't upgrade it. You can't upgrade it and for what it is, I just don't necessarily believe we're going to get to the level of the steam deck of having all these upgrades. But this runs fine. I think Fce is actually one of the ones that again, not four K, but you can make it run at sixty FPS. If you wanted to go low, I'm sure you can get it at four K. But again, it doesn't feel good to press the low button on a piece of hardware this expensive Right. Let's check out another title. Somebody was mentioning Resident Eil Requiem. Yeah, which is a title that I don't know the full specs on, but I know on Please H five pro Very impressive. Yeah. and this is one we have a PlayStation five, I think regular that we can switch in between once we show it off on Steam Deck Steam machine rather, and then we can boot it up on PS five and kind of see where it's at right there. so you can get the comparison the I was wondering if I can if you can see it No, Ness. Oh, you probably in Oh no c. Wait what? Oh maybe you can. You you try to s it all the way over there and try. Oh there it is. Okaykay ye, that' perfect actually c. Let's see if you can do it. We can't do that unless we're out of the mid But's normal textures. Yeah. B blah, low subsurface scattering FSR upscaling technology, ultra performance, no frame generation on Oo, is this? Did this get updated because I could have sworn that it was limited to FSR three point five Oh, maybe I wonder if this got an update recently. Maybe I'm tripping but I could have sworned it was three point five yesterday. So let's do without frame generation, then we'll turn on some frame generation. I not let's talk about it really quick. I'm not one of those people that is anti frame generation. I don't see it necessarily fake frames. I do think it gets some wonkiness with very fast paced video games U the book. likeike a sp L you know what our shit does that That's not just flickers ye. Yeah. that happened a lot during our marathon stream. Of Rough. Yeah, a little bit rough, a little bit rough there. But it is I think it's fine. It's serviceable. I mean, again, you're going to get the sixty FPS, but again, this game is on it's also on Switch. you know what I mean? Like it's also on different different consoles that are I mean, we're not getting sixty though No, I mean you could get the six.ike know what I mean?ike, you have that also do the thing. Tim had mentioned that it seems like the hair strands are what really can take performance. So if you quit out and turn off the hair strands and go to normal hair. Yeah, because it's not something you could change right here, unfortunately. Gotcha. It's something you'd have to back out into Yeah, and we have shadow context view. Okay. So about normal, about regular to low. This is with frame generation, now we're getting get to eighty, eighty two Yeah, it's a fine it's fine. Yeah, I think image quality looks good here with whatever FSR is doing. You know, you could definitely point out the noise and be ultranid picky if you want to. But I think it looks pretty darn good. I would like to see the validity of these pair strand claims. Can you put it out to the menu And while you do that, let me see if I can switch out. You do that and I try to get. I try to download I try now. You got good got a good vision, right I see it. I fucking got it. I gave her. Oh my Godd, you nailed that is it We're so far away. Imagine if Mike uses glasses, he'd be able to see and differentiate yellow bell peppers from tortilla ch You know, the big dogs were eating, big dogs were eating let's see here. It's downloading right now, so we'll see I don't even know how the fuck I'll know when that's on obly We're't talking about easy We're going in there. We're trying to get the hair physics to get up here. Yeah, we're turning the hair phhysics off from Nvidia hair, which Oh, it was on. It was on. Oh okay. The PS five Pro uses it. The PS five and the Switch and the Xbox do not. Yeah. I believe that's what it is. When we did our full p I don't know how that works. I have nine. How much how long to rady you play six minutes. o, yeah, we's play for six minutes. We'll see what goes. Maybe it boots you into the first or it might just do A actuallyually, it might do the thing where you're like you can't even fucking play. Yeahah. We'll see now How many frames of everything on Max? We tried that with Cyberpunk, which you'll see in a little bit. and that was tough on everything Max. This is with FSR Soalon though Without those hair strands, a little tough. Yeah, the hair definitely gets a bit noisier for sure. Yeah. we could swap off Ultra performance. see what that does. And again, we're doing all this. It's like well you're tinkering an awful lot an awful lot. Yeah. And it also I don't know it's nothing I'd mind, but I know that people who were More interested in this're like, I don't like fucking around with all this stuff. Yeah. and that's the thing is like again, as I told you about now everyone knows that I'm a tanker, right? My shame. That's how much I'd be ashamed of it. I mean, you know, I might be ashamed of it a little bit. But I' be ashamed about it. I the phace manan is a little bit weird. Yeah It's a lot of the lighting. I'm so used to seeing Gace With full ass path tracing. Yeah. and granted, totally different. I'm not saying that these should be comportable. I'm talking about a two thousand five hundred dollars machine when I played back home or when we played here, whatever the five thousand ninety. That's obviously a very different situation. Yeah. and I s sorry, what I wasm saying is that like I love tinkering when it feels When it feels good, when it feels right like this does not, this was not a positive tinkering experience. It felt like I was frustrated at the hardware and it felt like I was buting up against things that I can't change. right? With like tinkering on my my home computer, it's like, well, I know what this is, right? I know I can get I know I can do this frame. What is wrong here? How can I fix it? There's just like this level of like you can't. L this is a mobile APU from twenty twenty three that is semi custom with one stick of RAM. That's sixteen gigabytes. It is DDR fivew slots. T slots. You can add one if you want.. And I think that could help a lot Yeah You just have to spend nine hundred dollars for a sixteen gab. Yeah a stick of RAM. Exactly. And then you and then you are left with the moment of like, okay well Again, I'm playing a a game that I could be playing on another console, another PC at a way better frame rate and for way less money. So I I struggle to find the fun in the tinkering as somebody that loves tinkering and that is a lot to say for me becausecause again, I fuc you know, I'm the guy that's over here like, okay, well, I'm going to, you know, I want every PS two game. I'm going to whatever I'm going to do the whole thing. I'm going I'm going I'm going to legally take all my PS two things, put them in there, you know, download them all. And I'm going to also get custom, you know, images for everything. and then I never play the games.. And that's what I love to do So I think it looks really solid in first person. It does, it does. when you remove the hair and the face thing But this is also like a really well optimized video game, which is not to take away from it, right? But this is you Capcom is really good about that of scaling specifically this game up to the switch from the Switch two all the way up to PS five Pro. So I'm legitimately looking at my own by the way, Chat, when I was asking, could I make my own machine with StMOs, I knew the answer was yes by the way. And like ye I saw a lot of people going, yes, you can do that. And, I knew the answer was yes it was more of like, should we do that for our studio? becausecause a lot of times whenever we want to demo PC games, it's such a pain to Like how are we going to What machine are we to use? Is that powerful enough out there there? you know, like Thats always odd Uncle Days PC also doesn't require as much tinkering as people make it seem, though. I disagree. I disagree. I disagree. Yeah because I'm a tinker Yeah exactly. But like again, even with this, right, even with the steam machine, there are so many moments where I'm booting up a game. and it's like, why doesn't this work right? Like And I think that again, a lot of this is early days review unit, yada yada, But like I boot up cyber punk And it just automatically is putting me into the seven hundred twenty P or eight hundred, whatever P steam deeck version of it because utilizes it it sees what the what the thing is. There's another indie game we can't talk about What's also doing that. Well, yeah, that one just like literally locked me out and just made me like only do seven hundred twenty p which is weird. Just a lot of that like this looks good, right? Yeah. The cutscenes look good. This looks great. But like there's a lot of fighting against the thing likeike I just want to turn on my thing and have it just workk on a base level and then I can make it better if I want to. And it just it's just not broken, but it's like seven hundred twenty p wrong resolution. Why is that not working? Why is this not working Um And not as plug and play as you would hope.
