Hey Tim, Greg Miller. Hi Tim. Mike Mike, Tim, you look great in that jacket. Thank you so much and blessing atyo J junior. Good day Tim And wear the jacket on purpose? I was like, what's my most like vice city looking And I had some louder pink ones, but I was like, no, I think this fits the vibes correctly for what we're doing today, which is talking a lot about Grand Theft Auto six. There's been a lot of GTA six news happening in the last week and now we have a whole bunch of us together to talk about it for the very first time If you're watching live, be part of the show by superchatting on YouTube dot com slash kind of funny games, whereere are you at with GTA six? spepecifically, why do you care about GTA six? Of course, that works the other way. Why don't you care about GTA six? Super chat and let us know and we'll get to those throughout the show. Shout out to our Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, Deliny the S Twining and Lax Nomad Y'all are the best of us, but for now let's begin with the topic of the show Why do we care about Grand Theft Auto six? It's hard to say who's the biggest fan of GTA at this table. I'd wager it's Bless. It's like saying who likes pizza. And that's the thing for. Go with that, Andy. I know I like pizza. I know this pizza. I know you like pizza. I know Greig likes pizza. But I know Bless loves p pizzaa. But it's funny because when when I say I love this pizza Roni specifically. Yeah, you know I'm a San Andreas boy. Okay. So San Andreas and GTA fiveiv like those are my GTAs. Once we get to Vice City, it's like less Am less hype But it's not like this is my jam. this is my everything here. Yeah. But I was excited for this. I love GTA. And then like, where are you at? becauseuse I just don't know Oh, Tim. I'm extremely high I'm a GTA kid ride or die. Yeah. I'm someone who stood out front of a circuit city in two thousand three with seventy dollars of my lunch money, handanded it to a random stranger and said, please help buy me Grand Theft Auto by My only hope Mike I love Grand Theft Auto. If Mike if a gun and ball gamer is going to buy another game, it's going to be GTA. Let's just Mike is the ball and gun gamer GT is in the ball and gun world. Yeah. Oh yeah. one hundred percent hands down. Oh yeah. GT means a lot to me Tim. I love GTA. veryer much Edie I mean yeah, I'm just super excited. off course. this is like as as we're getting kind of ramp as we're ramping up towards like the first trailer release and, you know, all that, it's like I get so excited like, oh my Godd, I'm working in the industry when a big rock star release is happening. And how long have you been working in the industry? Well, guess I guess I was I was an employee when Red Dead two launched. Sure, sure sure. You could just say Grandthft. Yeah, but like Grand Theftu just's a that's a horse of a different color, Dutch And um Yeah, it's's I'm super pumped to see what bigiggest game with the biggest budget ever you know based on the franchise that has They sold many what are they at now? likeike one hundred eighty million or something two hundred million higher Yeah. Yeah know this is Schyer just talked about this. It was two hundred thirty million on GTA five. It's absolutely insane. And so yeah, I'm like super back the end take me back before we get to how hyped you are for six, like what's your history with the first? Yeah what shit. How much you love this? Oh, I mean, yeah, when I I mean, I remember going to, you know, my friend Charlie in Caesar's house and watching them play GTA three on the PS two and and I didn't have a PS two yet and All three of the brothers had gotten a game each so like they had GTA, they had Midal Gear solid two and they had DMC or definitely cry the first one. And was just super blown away by, oh my God, look at you could just kind of do everything. And yeah, I like everybody else got really into Grand Theft Auto. Vice City was my favorite one. didnid't love the whole like I don't know why the RPG aspect scared me so much in San Andreas. I was like, I don't want to worry about getting fat and getting muscles. And that was like such a roadblock for me. like it shouldn't have matteredilar to when Majoris Masc. I'm like Oh, I' on a time limit. I don't know about this I'm scared, you know. So but yeah, I played I never beat four. I'd say four is like maybe the only one that I just ran around a lot in, but I never like got the actual ending in four, but yeah, five play the shit out of it you know, had some fun with online as well. That was like a really cool online moment for me living in Austin, play with my friends back home and Even when it was at its shittiest and never working and you were disconnecting all the time, It was just so cool to chase after the one dude in the city who was terrorizing people and you're just trying to run over him with your car and explosions. and yeah, it's like It's obviously going to be a big moment, but also like the tech geek in me is so stoked to see. All of the shit that everybody on social media kind of like gets really excited about and then the other side will really complain about and go like this is why games are so hard to make because you care about the horse testicles and you care about how many water droplets that like that's stuff I'm like, They go with their level of caring on the immersive factor You know, will I will I be You know, fucking filling up my tank of gas and then if I, you know, don't pull the gas tank out if I don't pull it out correctly, I'll lose it. like how deep is it going to go with mechanics and the way you're doing you adinistr of Homas is affecting your gas price. It's so funny because everything you just said, I feel like it's actually my exact journey too for the most part where the GTA three Vice City, those were my shit And then Sandraas I loved it, but I was also turned off by the more RPG elements of it all. And then getting into four, I dabbled and I played a lot of it, but I never finished it. I would fight to the Empire State Buing and then like jump out of the helicopter. That's pretty much what I did all the time. And then with five beat it and played fair amount of online mainly because of let's Pays and the achievement Hunter days when we would do all that stuff, but like definitely not nearly as much as I wish that I did because whenever we did those races and stuff I was like, this is so much fun, but I the ecosystem was too daunting for me, even to this day. I like Look at him like I don't understand it's because very poorly set up. that too. But the other way, Rubber. But then Greg, whereere you at with GTA in the past? Uh, I mean I'm as close to being around forever as you could be, I think, right? Like PlayStation one, Grand Theft Auto two was a mainstay on that for me and my friends. Byard wrestle, and then we would come in and we would watch what we just recorded and then we would lay there and pass the control around to each other of who could get five stars the fastest, who could survive with five stars the longest, X, Y and Z. And you know, in all of my pantheon of memories of video games and video game journalism and everything that's made me Having that EGM and cracking it to where they had the first screenshot of Grnd of Auto three. And it was due to leather coat green pants running. camera and them talking about like If you've played it before, they're bringing the camera to the ground and putting it behind like it's going to be third person, but it's gonna be everything you were doing and you can go in buildings. And it was like, I remember reading it and rereading it and just being like literally there's no way There's just no. What you're saying is impossible. That would be like living a real life. That would be like that whole, you know, blah blah And so then they get, you know, Grand Theft Auto three and kickstart this You know what I mean? of like I remember Grant have daught of three devouring it all the secrets, organically finding the one Easter egg where you go to the top and they're like, there's no Eter egg. Why are you looking? It's like, Oh the fuck's crazy. And then you know, didid you ever try to validate and find like validity in games by like showing it to your parents of like This is a serious. Mom, these aren't just like silly Mario. Sure, sure sure sure. likeike with me with GTA it was like, I remember showing my parents a lot of different cutcenes because they were watching the Sopranos at the time And this game had Tony Sipriani. Yeah. I'm like, lookook at that. like it's like the mob. It's like your TV show it. they're rivaling. It's like what a parent tries to like relate to us because I was trying to relate to my parents like Look at the. Yeah, Grand Theft Auto three when outa came out, I'm at Mizoo. I'm living in the dorm and it would I was already whenever I was in the dorm, I would leave my door open. but Once Grand Theft Auto three came, it became Pe would walk down the hall and just if I was playing, they would stop and come in and sit and just watch. And the amount of times I'd be going and driving somewhere and I'd go to get and they'd stop me They wanted to finish chatter box. Like we had to hear Lasloow had to finish this segment with the love expert or whatever it was going to be. And I remember the excitement when, you know, back in the old live lime wire days, you could put in a search and let it go forever. and I searched For seemingly months until someone finally uploaded all of Chatterbox. And I remember I woke up one morning and it was there and ran across the hall and told John that we hadn't had a disc with it. And your first podcast Exactly. That like brings me back to like must have been two thousand Seven or eight, my house is campfire. And we were living in like a an uncle's house who had gotten deported, so it was free. So we were living there for a while. I kind of did the same similar thing where I turned on my PS two, opened up San Andreas, went to the pause menu, and they had all the radios available in the pause menu. So I just left on a radio Los Santos and just had that be my radio as I would do wh whatever in my room. Yeah. It's so cool how immersive that shit was. Totally. And then you go I remember, you know, Vice City the next year, my sophomore year, I'm living at the Antler house And I remember one of our friends was playing a show the Night of release And we were in the car or wherever you were doing, one of my friends like, arere you going tonight? I'm like, Yeahah, probably I'm going to pick up GTA vice City though before. And then my other friend back is like, So he's not coming. like of he was right. You like, oh, it's a sequel, How much different could it be? And like ifferent note but vibes in a world and a landscape, right? You jump in. Tommy Versetti. comeome on. Motorcycles. Motorcycles, man golf You go to the Fierro driving down the highway with Some like hair metal planing., it's nothing better. You know, you go to, I think honestly one of my final memories of playing a game over and over and over and over again just because in San Andreas. And I remember having that save out on I'd already done everything you know, I, you know had all the money in the world or whatever. and I had a save right next that where I start right at the dirt airport and I'd get into the jet and take off and then it would every I would do this hundreds of times throughout, you know, months of just playing it off that thing and it' just like, what do I want to do today? Jump out, do this, land there. What kind of weird trick can I do? What kind of thing? if I bounce my body off that can I land over there? dot d like all those stupid little things you would do, right? And then skipping a few things though, you know, this then launches me into my career at IGN You know, I start in two thousand seven. And so to be there I had that moment off like Rock star came by or whatever. We went to visit them. I forget it was like I was Hillary was the one who was doing the preview. but I got I'm like, I'm and then they passed me the closure. Do you want to play GTA F' like of like playing a GTA with before anybody and then of course to launch into then lost in the damned, right? Ballot of Gay Tony, like that was happening. Chinatown Wars, a game that I skipped on DS but then got obsessed with on PSP or maybe I got obsessed on DS actually. Doesn't matter All this grand Theft auto stuff is happening and it's so crazy and it's so wrapped in memories of my career of meeting people I skipped you know When I got the newspaper column about video games in the blog or whatever covered national stuff and try to localize them. And if this is the point when Uh the lawyer who was crazy. Jack, what was his name chn, The lawyer went after GTA made his whole career going after Rock. Jack Thompson. Jack Thompson was going after GTA all the time or rock star and GTA in the press and trying to make these legal battles, yadda, yada, yada. And the guy was fucking crazy. likeike just insane And I was writing about all that and I came in one day and I had been flas thing on my phone at the desk and I picked it up and and it was Jack Thompson chewing me out for the fucking article I read. I'm like, Fashing what? Light Like a voicemail light. I had a real phone at my desk at the newspaper Like a physical phone with a dial pad. And you had a flashing voicemail light when people whoa They were gonna to put my cell phone to the paper. You know what I mean? Right No, I mean, yeah, it makes sense. it' like I had the whole thing too I had the receiver with the cord and then like the little rest for your hold mype your notes write your nosevery desk Did like every yeah yeah. you when you go and probablyably not as fancy, but you look at like the daily plananet news rooms or whatever in a superraan film like I work that. That's like legit not every time, but like legitimately the fucking coffee pod, the things is all the so is crazy. And But then it was like you talk about this I mean, now hilarious talk about it, but drought, right? where you go from two thousand nine lost in Dam Chown was about to get Tony, but really four in two thousand eight to then getting twenty thirteen grand theft outut of five And still working at IGN still like at that point like I've gone so high up the ladder that I'm the one going out and doing all these different things and I know RockarPR so well and I'm talking about all that stuff. like I remember, you know goinging out it would have been for a GTA five preview and like Maybe it was but it might have just been a get coffee with Rockstar PR but was New. Maybe was when I was interviewing Dan Huser. I got for some reason they wanted to you know, I was a good interviewer they sent me out to What round up in N I remember being in New York and I remember it was the day Taylor Swift's album dropped and listening to that I'm at breakfast with are trying to sell them on why Taylor Swift matters to everybody. the more things change. Now nobody would argue against it, but here we are, you know thirteen years later. thirteen years when a franchise that used to be annualized just waiting for this game and what it is. And so I have a lots to talk about here, but it's like for me in particular, especially with GTA six, it honestly feels like being in hibernation. where I still not Excited. Like I'm still not like I can't wait. I'm still not like counting on the days because it just doesn't feel real. J totally. Yeah. When we' are in spitting distance it'll be that. But Tim what about? Just to take you back real quick, ickreg. It's like one of my most treasured video game memories is with you when GTA five dropped and when we went down to Roster teeeth for the first time. I fil I forgot about The Gauntt. Yeah, the Gaulet GJ five had it wasn't even out yet. We had the early copies because of IGN and some of the other people, like some funhouse people and I guess that was it. I think we had two copies. Fhouse had a copy and we had a copy of GTA five And we went down to shoot the gauntlet and it was like a sixix day shoot or something in like the Paramount Theater down in Austin. And so much was going on, but we we like begged people to set TV's up for us just so we could like sit and just play. And it was the most distracting thing for anyone trying to get anything done because everyone was just taking turns doing the obvious trying to run, get into the the airport, get the airplane and try to take it off without getting taken down And we spent like the entire week before someone actually was able to pull it off for the first time, getting that jet going. and it was like, this is so cool. It was such like a communal like, oh my God, we're all doing this. And we were adults at the time, but it felt like playing GGA three at Curn. Remember we brought that game screen, one of those giant cases you could bring where you strap the console open lifted it open had really shitty screen on it, but yeah, we brought that. I was always so jealous of the of achievement hunter, not only just their success, obviously, but Is that working for them now. But the fact that they would always do these like random heists So and and and it they found like so much creativity and not just, we're not just going to play the game the way it tells us to. We're going to make our own stories manan that is so cool and you know, I remember when we did like our first party modes for GTA and we're like, yeah, there's a there's a whole ecosystem of just GTA streamers or just GTA This wasn't even in the rolepl playing. Like there was none of that. It was just like There are people that only do You know, I think of back to the Fun House and all of their like podcast videos. like they had a lot of podcasts where it's just them talking and they're just doing a GTA race, you know in the foreground or whatever. And like it was it was an ecosystem for content creation. much like Minecraft was back in the day, much like Roblox is now and things like that. It's like, It was never just this You play as as Trevor and Michael and I'm blinking. Franklin Frankl, I was gonna to say Frederick. You're playing as the three characters, you know, playing the campaign, and then it's over. It's like, no, you could play online forever Yeah. As long as it works, it rarely works for us. It worked for me. I played like five hundred doours in GTA online. I want to talk about online, obviously becausecause there's a lot to get The trailer of GTA five and then it trailer of walking up to the window and you can see the little name tags of everyone in the streets and they go And we're going to have GT online, but we'll talk about that in a later time. I' never been so Wow. I was going to be obsessed with something until the end of that trailer and I was like, oh, I'm going to live in that by my life. I know that is a g I've been waiting for all my life So I want to put pause on the online because that is the thing we have the most questions about, we don't really know anything because last week we got the cover art, we got the prices, preordders are up now and we got some information about both the eighty dollars and the hundred dollarars hundred ultimate edition that comes with a bunch of bullshit. Bless justust talking about the single player because that's what they have announced now Where are you at? I'm so excited for it. Like if I guess I didn't break down my history, right? but it's similar to all you guys where it goes back to GTA three where Greg's in college during GTA three, I I think Around like six years old by the time they release or maybe seven years old, but by the time I play it, I think it's zero two, zero three. It's another one of those Aison games where I go over to Addison's house and he's like, oh, I have this game. Watch me play it because that's what I would do just watch him play games. And he busts out GTA three. And I'm like seeing all this stuff and I'm like, okay, this is cool but I don't know if I get it. He then lends it to me at home. And it still doesn't click. Like I don't think I'm at GTA age yet where I'm understanding how cool it is to do crimes in an open city because he then goes on to lend me Vice City when that when that comes out. He then even lends me San Andreas and it's not until I have an uncle come over one time, and he's like, Hey, L, do you do you play Grado? Do you like Grado and I am either in middle school or freshman in high school and I'm like, Oh, ye, play Gr Dutoto. I don't have Grndsato. Hes like All right, I got you. And the next time I see him he hands speak GTA San Andreas and I'm like, I I'm in high school, but I'll take it ye. sure. And that is when I got so obsessed with it, right?ike played an endless amount of S Andreas had the fantasy, honestly of, man, I wish this game could like be onlineike I wish I could play this with friends in a world that's bigger and in a world that's more beautiful. That c co op mode hidden inside of it. co op mode was really fun. I'll play that with Adison. then GA four online too. That's the thing is, GTA four was also an online game for me. I know we don't talk about GTA four online as much, but I did play through the campaign in GTA four. actually really loved the campaign of GTA four. I thought grounded dramatic story in a GTA thus far, which is kind of crazy to think about, but played a lot of the online at GTA four, and then yeah, once we get to that trailer where they'd revealed the online for GTA five blew my mind. But I'm super excited for the campaign here. For me, I'm just excited for the sandbox of it. I think for the we haven't used the word sandbox yet as we were talking about it, but all the things I were saying, right being able to explore the city, being able to ride the motorcycles, do X,Y Z thing GTA I don't want to say it made it mainstream because Sims existed, but on that level of open world crime game sandbox, I think nailed all the things that it needed to do to make us to get us all just obsessed with everything. I just wanted to live in the created created on three. Yeah Yeah. GJA three was that first full three D open world experience that I ever remember saying, o wow, like look at me in this world. and then somebody going, Ohh yeah, go grab that car. Oh, go grab an ambulance. You can just drive around in it right now. You never looked back. It was the idea L left five stars. Playing real life. You're just a man running around now. likeike that is the allillure' like ready player one come to life. And now when you look at where we're at now with online and especially role playing and what GTA six will most likely do with the role playing scene, it's like you will just be living world And that was always the dream even from three was to go into every building to have some random job at the burger shop or chick at that chicken shop and just live. It's going to be awesome. Yeah. So I mean, I'm equally excited for single players I am online Single player though, I will play for probably what to maybe even a hundred hours. Oline will be hundreds and hundreds of hours for me Do you has anything that's been that's happened in the last week like changed your excitement? Not at all. I You know, we've talked a lot about how are they going to release online. and now I just have a lot of questions about that, but not anything that makes me less excited. if anything makes me more excited because're they're saying in their blog post that GTA six is a single player experience, and that is launching november nineteenth, right Online could launch whatever, right? That could be I think if they do it the right way, it's probably coming out in spring of next year, right? very early next year. I think that's a really cool way to do it because you're giving enough time for people to breathe and play this game and get through it and have all those conversations. And then you have the second wave of all right, we all know the city. We all know the mechanics. We're all so familiar with this game. now online launches and You know, I think the only thing that gives you any sort of worry is how much do you charge for online Is that another Full price thing, Is it free to play? Is it somewhere in between? I have those questions, but I don't have any less excitement for it. I need KieG to look back into the archives to see if there was a pizza bed between me and Bless about them launching with multiplayer How interesting. I would have said that they wouldn't Oh no, you were you were very like hard fast. like there's no way they don't do it at the same day. No, there's no way. Yeah, you were There no way where remember. you get them? Somebody looking up. Somebody find it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I would love to see if those's pizz an official mayaybe we didn't do official one I was a little bit more scared back in the day I think the only reason I would have said that would be because They wouldn't do it a month later because of Christmas. But how The same day D you find? Yeah, like it was like a launch thing. like I wouldn't wait until later or whatever. Some look that. But I think looking back just numbers wise and obviously this is just like a a broad sort of like How long to beat level of a sort of thing, but when we look at GTA being about thirty hours, you know, campaign is, if you do completion is, you know, around like eighty to one hundred hours And then Red at Redemption too Almost doubling those numbers and being like, yeah, you could do two hundred hours if you go for the full completionist route. What sort of level can we expect from this? because I I think a lot of that has to do with Well, how much of this development time has been online and how much has it been campaign in story and just single the single player experience. That's It's a little bit hard for me to even guess what those numbers could be. They may just be equal to GTA five again or Maybe in between GTA five and Red D Redemption two and maybe the rest of the time has just been like, let's get this online you know, feature complete and, you know, full of content or whatever. but I I'm really excited to see like, How do they read deead Redemption to this world Because GTA five had a very, very, you know, it has its story campaign. You could just do that and get that done fairly quickly, it feels like But then they had like that I wouldn't say fairly quickly, right? Like you said thirty hours, like That's how long to beat has GTA five at thirty two hours main story M an extra fifty one and a half completionist eighty nine. Okay, yeah. way longer than I than I remember. But I would think that six is like sububstantially longer. mayaybe not double, but I wouldn't be surprised at close to five fifty. And so like I guess my question is, how do they read dead redemption to the GTA franchise where it's like, yes, we're still going to have this campaign. We're still going to try to give you a really good meaty story you know outside of The side quest and things like that You could golf and you could like do those little side activities, but Red Dead Redemption to I think took that to like a way bigger level in terms of like people could just hunt in Red Dead Redemption two and some people only hunted in Red Dead Redemption two. likeike I have personal anedes just friends of mine that that's all they fucking do. They just go like they want to go for that really rare animal. They want to find that real three star, whatever the hell. and like I wonder deep those side activities can go. Like how much depth with there you're going to see a lot of online GTA five online influence on GTA six single player because for me the fantasy UGT online is grow as a criminal mastermind and being able to you buy your apartment, you then go on to buy a fancy condo, you buy a nice house, you buy these things, you buy a garage, you continue to you know, fill that garage with cars, even nicer cars, right? And of course, you've been able to do these things in GTA already. But I think the way that online expanded that and turned you into just a an entrepreneur business owner, I could see GTA single playayer being way more about building up an empire as opposed to like just the story mission. I think I think it'll be a bit more systemic in that way. I think what they want to do is create the fantasy. I think when we're talking about Red deead and what they do well, it is, all right, what's the fantasy of a cowboy living in that time period? Oh yeah, you're going to go hunting. You're going take care of your horse, brush your horsse's hairs, right? The horse testicles growing and st it's going to matter to this, right? I think GTA is going to be doing the same things, but on the In the ways that makeakes sense for the criminal Mastermind fantasy. You're going to get like, you're going to see a truck with like truck nuts and they're going to get bigger in in certain weather. But yeah, like, you know When we think of the side activities in GTA, again, like I mentioned, you can golf, you could go Was there like good tennis? tennis Yeah you can arm wrestle. And A lot of that was like the equivalent of walking up into some games, there's like an arcade cabinet. and you play the little arcade game and it's like 's obviously a bit more involved, right? You're not just seeing a little screen and playing an arcade game, but you know How deep will those mechanics go to try to like Could you just try to become a tennis driver? Yeah. ye, canan you apply it Cluck and Bell and, you know, have a and try to do side quests while you have a likeike, obviously, this is we're getting to levels right now where we were with Cyberpunk thinking that we could just fully exist in this cyberpunk world. And then the game came out, I was like, it was a campaign. That wass my question. like how much time do you tend to put into those side activities? Because I think for most of them Well Well A lot of that is because they were just little cute things that you go. Oh sweet. they put that I probably played golf twice ever in J. Yeah, I think I maybe played it once and wasn't, you know, it was just a whatever thing but Will they entice me to to try to seek out these little side activities in the way that Red Dad Rdemption two said, No, we want hunting to be like a really big thing, a big core of are of our side activities that aren't the main campaign, you know keep talking about our hyight for GTA six after a quick word from our sponsor. This episode is brought to you by High On Life two. Just four months after the February release of High On Life two, the Squatch Games team is back with the kind of funny crew Last time the deev stopped by, the game hadn't been released, which forced them into a very painful, agonizing secrecy Today though, the NDAs are off and they can pretty much say whatever they want without getting yelled at. Mostly, they really want to talk about the following though. A demo is now available for Xbox PlayStation and PC as of this week. Well, I watched all the GTA trailers from three to six last night. Okay, so you were in the moon. you're like active experience because I was preparing for possibly a GTA three trailer to drop today, right with pre orders. I thought mayaybe we'd get something exciting. And so I went back and I watched them all and the hype is throughrew the roof for this especially When you get to the two trailers that we've had over two and a half years now, it's crazy. And when you watch those back, they hit all the right notes for what you want out of the h get hype moments from GTA, right? The music absolutely bangs. Everything you're seeing on screen screams GTA. Here's a beautiful world that you want to live in and explore. You want to get into crime. you want to get up to know good You're going to meetast a crew of casting characters that you're going to love, hate, like and laugh at. likeike everything was through the roof for me last night and it still is. It's been like that since it was introduced two and a half years ago that we were finally nearring GTA six. And so yeah, for me, I am a GTA guy through and through. I have a rich history with it from two thousand one as an eleven year old, right? L this is very much in my gaming DNA and the idea that like now is finally the time, I'm super pumped up. And what gets me is returning to Miami right? Like the idea of that ecosystem, that environment is really, really exciting. As blessing and you guys have all brought up the role playing aspects that they learned from GTA five and online, what they saw with the community where this could go now. We know that they've doubled down on that. They purchased that team. no pixel. like they're learning and growing. and I think that we're going to see a really long life with this. But like when it comes down to the core of it Tim, it's that single player experience. It's the story. It is those moments of here's this wacky side character. There's always some nerdy computer guy That's going to mix up well with the Mafioso guy. And I'm just excited to see where these two take me, right? Am I bouncing between the two characters? Is it just a real great love story that we're going to see on Romeo and Juliet out in the streets causing havoc? likeike I can't wait to see this. I want I want references to Bad boys down in Miami. I want Miami vice references like I can't wait and then the radio, like we brought up, like My hype level for this is through the roof. I want to see more heists. I want to see great side activities. I want lasting missions that will stick with me. I mean, you bring it back Grand Theft Auto Vice City, those dumb RC control my missions. You never will forget those. no matter how frustrating they were, you still smile, right? The RPG elements in San Andreas goingoing out and getting your driver's license, your boating license, your plane's license, right? Like those are things that a lot of people don't talk about, but we're so much fun in the moment of like This is crazy that I'm on an airirstrip out in the middle of Las Vegas, Las Ventura and I'm just getting a pilot's license. This is crazy stuff I want to get fat. I love putting on an afro or crazy hair, do like, I want all of that in this game. and we're going to get that, right? How do you elevate it to I want more tattoos. We've seen the basic ituxed.. I already have. I. I think every human being on Earth is excited to buy that. No matter how much shit we talk about the hundred dollars and how that's a crazy price tag, I promise you we're all pumped up deep down insside to be like Yeah, I will gladly give you a hundred bucks to get this thing on and rocket with the ultimate. To say something crazy, I actually don't really think about how much they've pushed this one further, only in the sense of I just missed GTA so much that I'm okay with this just being GTA. Why I think that's gonna I don't need an evolved game. I just want GTA. I do Honestly I'm excited for this story. This looks like a really cool Bonnie glide. I like that idea. We'll see where it goes. Are we criminal masteromized byy the end? Do we fall at the end? yet. That's all great I do. I think one of my main exciting points for it is to see what's going on under this hood, systemically, what's going on in the world, etcetera. becausecause even I mean, I think honestly every GTA with the exception of the trilogy originally where RPG sure, this c other re prettyty similar games right? I'm not saying they did't add stuff, but the jump between the trilogy to four. I remember being like, holy shit and then four to five. like I remember having it playing it playing GTA five and walking around Franklin As Franklin on the beach in the weed shop and the stuff and it was like Wow, like At a glance it's GCA, but there's so much going on here. When you look at this and how beautiful it is and we keep seeing, you know, the same two trailers, obviously s they haven't put anything out. and you see Jason talking down from that balcony to the guy in the muddy driveway and it's like That looks so good and you're going to be able to go down there and the water physics on that puddle and then what it's going to be to go over there let alone then how are we making money and generating income and doing this thing and all this all this dancing and nightlife and yet like How that is actually going to feel to play in Ram that world. sameame thing of GTA five of, you know, I remember being in being at Michael's place and then as Franklin just fucking ripping it out of Beverly Hills in the Lamborghini and getting like watching it change to get all the way out into the dusty area that Trevor was hanging out in that was like dirt poor and horrible. It's like To see what's going on technically will be such an incredible feat because that's what they do and that's what Rockstar is. And they've earned that pedigree over time. Yeah, totally. And also you've got to kind of look at it as this is just the most expensive tutorial to get people to GTA online, right? L And that's awesome. Like that because this is going to be the playground and the foundation that they're building for next however long from. Are we transitioning a little bit down online here? Well J just last thing I want to say is because for me in the last week, like getting this cover art has like kicked my hype into gear in a whole new way, which like I'm just obsessed with it. I love it and every single frame, I'm just like, this is what I want from GTA and I know that sounds silly, but it's like its everything looks pitch perfect. Like the coloring of it all. I rewatched just the two trailers for six and I'm just like, I can't wait for their story. I love that it's about a couple. Like that is like such a perfect place to set the story because we've seen so many different variations before, but that gets me more excited to actually play the campaign instead of just, oh, I'm going to play a lot of this, but am I really going to see it through like with where I'm at in my life now? And I think that there's like no chance I don't now. L I'm so, so excited for that single player side of it Then let's transition now to online. whereere do you want to go Well, I think you know what we're tal about is you're right. And you know, GTA five, GTA online. I remember when that was coming up and being like, holy shit, like This is going to take over my life. L I have such a lineage in history with GTA. I can't wait. And then for the staggered launch and then how broken it was at launch and then we didn't have heists and d d. It was such a turn off to me. Every time we had tried to ever come back and Kevin and I tried you know valiantly early on and kind of funny. and then there's been, you know, party modes and this that and the other how Cumbersome and slow and archaic that process was to get going made it feel so less than is an online experience that I am once again on the doorstep of a GTA single player experience and an assumed online experience. And I'm left going, man, I hope this is the one And also I really think it's going to be I think again, we talk about who Rockstar has acquired since then. We talk about how far online games have come since then. like Rockstar and takeake two know what they have and they know it's got that thing of We make a million dollars a day on this thing as it is and we didn't even nail it. So let's nail this one and I really turn that around, I think And there's no fun House or achievement hunter. There's only a say. Oh shit. Yeah, I mean the thing I the whole channel is going to become GT online l place to that I'd say, right I know you're saying they didn't nail it for you, right? but they did nail it. like overall business wise.'s the reason why GTA five is the second best selling game ever made, right? It is that online mode. It is how much they able to sell in shark cards and bundtle in the fullame game paddle with the shark cards and for when we're talking about The archaicness of it, right? We're also talking about a game that came out in twenty thirteen on the Playsttation three in the Xbox three hundred and sixty, before Destiny, before Fortnite, before so many modernizations have been made in online gaming, right? That is when GTA five online released and I'm with you in the sense of I'm so excited to see all that shit get polished because I'm somebody who again, I put in over five hundred hours into GTA online and I put up with all the bullshit. I put up with how terrible the partying up with people is. I put up with oh, I want to invite everybody. thenen I see the names pop up and then disappear and then pop up and disappear. And I'm like, arere they invited or not? Are they joining the event or not? right? mean We had those issues F years into the service. Yeah. So it's like This wasn't just a launch thing. This is It's still like that. Like even for the PS five version, you play it has all the same issues as the PS three version, right? So I think the only way to fix that is to rebuild fresh I think they know they got to start fresh, especially since we're in a new location now and all this stuff. But I am excited to see one how they take cues for all these other online games and online ecosystems that have done things better. But then also to Andy's thing of What are the ways in which you are making this GTA? immersive. What are the things are you taking cues from? And like I bet you, there's going to be in game TikTok There's going to be a content creation suite that is, hey, record your own videos in game, share them to an online ecosystem and you're going to scroll through them on your phone in your game. There's going to be so much custom content type shit because that is where we're at in the generation of rooblox and all this shit, right? And they want you to live in this. They want you to live in this. and GTA is also a pioneer of that as well. Yeah GTJA five had all that content creation type shit in it, right? so You're going to see you're going to see a version of GTA online that I think is the maximized version of all the things that Five set up F hundred hours in GT online What were you doing? Everything? Like what I was going talk that though. what what is that? L like trying to break down to some degree chart of five hundred h The pie chart. A lot of it was me fucking around in the open world and just doing events When heists came out, I want to say was twenty Oh, twenty fifteen it was when heist released. likeike I was obsessed with it, right? And a big part of that was wanting to own expensive properties, wanting to save up money for expensive cars Saving up money was I would say saving up money was the bulk of my time because I wanted to buy better and better things. so For me, online is about the chase toward Cital And that was doing a lot of just the in game missions that they had before Heist, which were just co op missions you would do a friend. He dropped the CWord like that. It was great happ. there was so much comment. He thought about it. I was like, do I want to say it that know's gonna be corny, but I'll say it anyay. It ch for capital. But it was me doing the co op missions. It was me then Heist coming out and then that being the main way of you want to make big money at a time You got to do heists, which is always fun because you get to that lastude You do the setup missions for the heists, which are let's say The first four missions, then you get to mission number five and it is whoever' the highest leader gets to choose how to divvy up that money and then we go into it and you have a certain number of lives. It is a raid style of content right where it is. You got to work together and be locked in order to be successful in this. And I absolutely love that. So that was a big part of the pie chart as well. But I just love doing all the events. I would do races. I would do team death match type stuff It was also once they started rolling out the custom content that people can make to create their own us generated content. user generated content? Oh my god, I spent so much time doing that. It'd be the thing microw The BMX bike race on the top of the skyscraper down and it was like only up, but you would be going down on the bike trying to jump platform to platform. Amazing. For me, it was people would put platforms in the air and it would be last man standing where people on the ground would drive cars and then launch themselves people on the platform in the air and they would have to like take those people out while the people up top had snipers and they're trying to snipe the people out of the cars. Awesome. That type of awesome shit, right? Like I spent so much my time doing that as well Mike. Yeah, I mean, I love GTA online. GT online is very special. and yeah, we've been through the ups and downs with it, but now it's in a much better place. I mean, I love jumping in. Washi owns every business in the game. So yeah, we'll go in and all of a sudden he's like, we got to go transport this marijuana, which means you put the marijuana in the car, you drive you got to go transport this marijuana You get put on the map and guess what? you are now highlighted on the map And some kids going to come grief you, right? Like that's some of the best parts is like that shared open world, that interactive experience of, well, I am doing missions, but they're not and they're just experiencing it. And guess what? Mike is going to grief you. He wants to pull up. He wants to honk at you. He wants to annoy you. He's going to shoot at you, right? Like that shared experience With so many people in this map was really, really cool and and special stuff. Yeah. And then the more they added, right? They added on added the casino that I loved. They had horse racing in the casino. We would all go in and watch a cosmo like the cos the cosmos experience where it's like the giant Spe down down downAere. It's minisere Oh You know what I'm talking about. Yeah yeah, Cosm. whereere you watch the sports. Yeah. Okaykay. but they had that for horn tras. You're saying like cosmall Yeah. so cool. And so yeah, they just kept adding on I all the dr that I love. drink. Yeah. And that's again, like what I'm excited for with this is I really do think it's going to be create your character and like live in this world. Like it's going to be literally I would assume you in Grand Theft Auto, which it was before. but I feel like the layers they put on top of the phone of the invites of the thing it felt so clunky that I didn't feel Oing an apartment and doing the thing and it actually was connected to just running a heist and doing the thing which was a, you know, dissidance for me that kept me away from it. Whereas I feel like this one's going to be streamlined into like you're talking about all the content creation that you think they'll be able to do. I don't think you're wrong and I wouldn't be surprised if the rockstar app social club that's always been trash is somehow gets rebooted where it's like When you're here right now in real life at eating lunch, you can open it up and see an in game feed of all the stuff the people you follow are our friends with and G. It's funny, becausecause you'recribing these things that I was doing it already Be Rockstar Social Club had all that shit, right? Yeah. And I was on the website constantly favoriting find your first ever gang and I know your friends. Oh my go. How cool is This is you're describing all the reasons why I love GT online. but of course like for A lot of people didn't get through that layer because That was so convoluted. And especially as they kept adding things over the years Late stage GTA five online, not my jam It's hard for me to open up GTA online right now and try to find a flow, get into it. And maybe part of that is just me aging, but I think a big part of that as well is added in so many things that I don't know what to chase anymore. Like when they added in bunkers that's where I was kind of like I don't I got to drive here every single time and I want to do a hist but I don't It's all now it's like real time happening in world, but I don't really understand it. I think they started adding in so many things that was hard T just explain that for people who were just coming in. you had to be living in that ecosystem. Yeah to understand how any of it worked. Well, the entrepreneurship like you said,' like that is Andy who's been there five hundred hours and won't put it down. They needed something more. They needed that carrot on the stick. Yeah. And they were like, hey, wellll just keep adding things, S Cs. whatever it is. Well because it was to earn money because you didn't want to buy shar Cs, right The best part, hereere's all the new cars. Here's the firework grenade launcher and it's like I have to own that. Yeah. Well guess what? It cost a lot of money in game and I don't want to put that kind of time and effort in. You're going to be buying shark cars. It was so cool living in a high rise in the game. lookingooking out your window and seeing the world happening And just seeing that one dude that was like just being a menace in a helicopter being ched and then a rocket hitting him and explode. it's like, This is fucking wild. Like I can't believe that like the games are this right now And yeah, it would just really it'd be really cool to see how that evolution, you know, takes place They would just take bong rips in the living room. Like what was the point of that? But they just had one bong in the living roomkay. Take rips. That's all you want to do. All right, sir. We have a ton of super chats. I want to get through them here. A lot of differing opinions on GTA. Crow says I haven't liked to GTA since San Andreas. Driving actually sucks. I'd rather grab a cab than drive in four and I hope you'll have fun, but it's not for me. It's a quiet November. Driving in GT four sucked But also once you got used to it, I loved it. Like it felt like you're driving on ice, but there's something about the realism, the quote unquote realism of it, where that was the first one where you you crash you can fly out the front windfield. That to me was the cool isue of all time. five driving out thought was good. Driving has always been amazing to me. It's always been draw in the fun of it. and like when your car gets airborne and having that control to bunch and rearrange it to make sure you land correctly. That's something I do in every game that way. I'm like, Oh, let me GTA fix this. And then most games like, no, we don't do that. And I'm like GTA does it though. So like whatever. Yeah when like until Fz until playing Fortza rise in three. and going, oh, shit I like I do like racing games because this is what I did in GTA all the time It was just, you know I was I never saw myself as like, I want to play racing games in the way that Grand Turismo is or anything because I don't just want to go from like match to match or whatever. But in GTA, I was driving around all the time and that's why when I really enjoyed Fs. I was like, whyy do I like this? Oh, because it's just that experience. flying out ripping on ever going to the grasslands. Yeah Sky says confonfession time I've never played a GTA. Sky, I you don't need to su you're a person., but but u ust just chat, is this gonna be your first? O are you nodding? Great question. Great question, G. Because man, yeah, There's never been a better time. There's never been a better time. Well, I don't know if they ever did they ever fix that trilogy They did over time and yeah, like you should just go to five though would If you've never played youJ just do five right now. Nob even then I would say if you haven't done any, don't do any. But if you're really gonna do one, I'd say do Vice City and no finish it just. Dabble with a little bit just to see how far you've come because I feel like GTA five if you do that I mean, I say this now. We'll see when six comes out. but I feel like It's a little too close in the sense of like them being similar. Sy says if the game has a good story mode, I'm more interested I think I think five is old enough Perhaps and you you open that up and you go, Oh, this looks significantly older than the games I'm playing currently right now and the newer kind of big titles And I think you will you'll still enjoy the gameplay of it, but you will feel that jump Whenever six happens I really hope that the You know, I never played DJ five on mouse and keyboard, but I hope that that I hope the shooting feels a lot better. L I never As much as I love just the crazy combat of GTA games, I never loved like the auto aim and then move the stick up a little bit for the headshot. like I want to see what that feels like on a keyboard mouse, going for precision, going for skill, you know That's when own stuff got so cool I'm Adam says, I've never tared or played a GT before, so I don't know why the internet's exploding. Is it really going to be that good? Do I go all in and see I mean I feel like you know. L I feel like like you know the answer to this of like, why the internet' exoding. It's because of the sales numbers. It's because of the reviews, right? Like Yeahah, we're talking about notot just one of the highest selling games of all time highest selling franchises is a wholele are the highest reviewed franchises. It's like game after game after game. We're talking about like It's getting you kind of start at the ten, right? A I It's one of the only franchises out there that I feel like that's the case for is that incredibly lofty expectations and goals for six. Yeah Do I think they'll hit it I don't know. I'm not quite sure. I do think that in the modern games media review landscape, I do see people being a little more Harsh I think it's going to be harder for this one to be a ten. I don't think it matters though I don't really matter at all. Yeah I didn't think Rckark cares right No. I didn't think it was gonna come out to great reviews, but I think at the end of the day the world is rolling bllast. The world is Yeah. No, we're hopping the way. Yeah Um how long do you think we wait for PC Like a year. Yeah, at least. I'll wait uil then I'm a. Oh yeah. The one question pigging off of this though, sorryways we're doing hypotheticals and stuff. likeike do we think there'll be GTA six reviews This is something that I want to say maybe even Straus Zel making an earnings call said yeah they but I mean, like I'm not even a thousand percent sure check. I don't think'll be cl. I think they'll be I think they' fly out It'll be an event. Yeah event. Yeah for. I don't think like they'll do I mean, Redead Remption too had They giveave us one code, right? you played because Jared Petty also played, but he was likeah it was for his own thing. Yeah I forgetot what it was. Yeahah. I mean they won't even put a disc in the box I think they're being very prective about this one. Rockstar has always been incredibly productive in what the NDAs you sign and what you need to do to have that game and play that game. So it'll be interesting to see in general what a twenty twenty six embargo looks like on it if they do it. but yeah, if it's going to be, you go here, you do that. I still think they will. for as their're rock star. they can do whatever they want. like I think it it kind of behooves them to Play all of the games possible to maximize the potential for this to be a hit. And I just think the more coverage the better. They already have guaranteed coverage, but there is something about Grandthft Autero six review that's going to be the most clicked article that possible, right? So it's like getting those eyes whether it's a ten or a nine or an eight or whatever, even if it's a six, it's like That attention is, I think it's marketing for them for breaking more records. likeike we've talked about this a lot. I cannot believe a trailer didn't come out today. Can't believe it You could preorder now. there's an actual call to action and there's not something major pushing that. like That's bizarre to me. likeike they're making some calls that I wouldn't make but I do think that when it comes to reviews Maybe not everyone in their mom is going to get it. Like I think that we're in an era now that when GTA five came out, there weren't YouTube reviewers the way there are now, right? There wasn't this like YouTube content creator influencer culture to the same extent So I don't know that they're all be getting codes, but I do think IGN is going to get a code. I think Game Spot will get a code. Game informer probably like You know, you go down the list It might be like a steam machine sort of like Yeah Yeah really tootally Yeah. I mean, I think we'll get a code. They got the You know, they got the kind of funny bum the set. They also got the PlayStation logo They do have the. That's great. And you turn on your Playsttation today. Not even more pages are that and That's crazy I The wan says I don't think GTA six will sell as many consoles as people might think. Normal people can't spend over seven hundred dollars to play one game. The economy sucks I mean, I think it's more just that there won't be enough consoles to buy for this. Yeah There was an article that we had I had to demote it to We News on the show today, but I believe analysts or I think it was like one of the retailers One of the retailers, thank you We're talking about how there will not be enough stock for consolules this December because of GTA. Did you guys talk about that? It was in We News, but did you get into it? or should I cover it tomorrow? We got into it. Okay U Falcon says finally beating the RC shot missions in San Andreas is one of my fondest gaming memories. The full game being a one hundred dollars killed my excitement. I'll wait for a sale Yeah RC shop was a blocker for me. I got so happy when I realized that I didn't need it to mainline progress in Sandreas, but then I beat the game, got real better at the game, came back to the RC shop and it's probably one of my proudest ging achievements as a kid Yeah What do we think first week sales look like? they announce for us, I guess they will. They have. I remember that was the GTA five, right when they were like, it's made more money in twenty four hours than it made a billion dollars in twenty four hours I guess I mean preordders probably already happened too, but that's I don't know I don't know how they're going gonna to count it. Yeah, right Because like for movies and stuff, preorders count towards that opening weekend. Maybe No. Okay, what like at the end of a week do they say You know, You sold fifteen million in the first week. I'm going say twenty million I think that's re prettyt fair. Yeah. I I don't know about the like amount of units sold, but I do think that they are going to make more money than Avengers End game made in its entire run and it Cter to week It looks they're gonna put it one more time, f I mean, but even then I let's see it and They're going to make billions of dollars. Okay, soes to put the twenty million in the first week into perspective There's about ninety two million As a four months ago, ninety two million Y fiveies have been sold. and around thirty five to forty million Xbox series consoles. Yeah GTA five looked like it sold eleven point twenty one million in its first twenty four hours. In the Dark Night of News, Andrew Golfarb on september twentieth, twenty thirteen said GTA five sales hit one billion dollars in three days. I might know if I did twenty five billion. Well, mean, that's my thing because I dud do one billion. it's like I might be getting a little overzealous here, but I think it's going to be closer to three than two Fucking insane to think about. It's exciting I'm This is yeah earlier in the week this is still Gf. Earlier in the week, Rockstar announced that GTA five made million eight hundred million dollars in one day. Analysts previously estimated the game would earn one billion dollars in its first month But it appears they underestimated just how excited people are to visit Lo Santos Yeah I think What'll be an interesting after shock, you know, money money quarterback of all. this will be the short of consoles and how even we don't want to buy them right now because they're so expensive. But what I've been hearing from people of like, well, no, like we are people aren't making many new ones because it cost so much to get them. So the ones that are going to stores right now are being like let let a little bit of air out of the balloon every time so that you can get to holiday and still have stock. but GCA forces people's hands and they want it out right away then there you go because there are going to be so many people that want that Hogwartths leegacy meme of walking in and walking out with the game and the new system. Yeah, tootally. Walking out with a five hundred dollars Xbox series S God. O, well now, you know, you have your pre owned refurbishes You could buy, you know, pay it time til august first to buy one. With Rnt to Center, you know, you could pay it's all it's two thousand dollars forty months later. You've got an next box F out pay later.
