Who puts you to sleep? Oh, you mean the Kicks Oh my God sleep this year watching the Kicks From thirty Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, please enjoy this podcast edition of Late Night with Seth Myyers. On today's show, you can hear Seth's conversations with Carl Anthony Towns and OG An Anobbe of the twenty twenty six NBA Champion New York Knicks. But first, a closer look Donald Trump made a big deal out of his plans to renovate the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting pool, and you have to give him credit. The project is going exactly as expected. It's not Oh, does that mean it's going better than expected? Oh, worse But who could have seen that coming? Everyone For more and this is time for a closer look We all know that Donald Trump cares above all else about appearance, which is why it was weird, but not surprising to see him comment On a reporter's looks during the G seven summit in France. mister President, I have a question. Yes reggarding this. What a nice looking person is he from your country Isas he from your country? No, he's got such a nice way about him. My people They's so mean. Look at a handsome guy could put him in. Be careful that. No him I can put him in a movie right now. It's never been more obvious that Donald Trump is eighty. He's talking about reporters the way old men in retirement homes talk about their kids. Why can't you be like this nice young man? He's polite. He calls me, sir, and he doesn't pester me with questions about Jeffy Evstkein. Also, I'm sure the guy is handsome, but don't sleep on our reporters. Have you seen David Mare I mean, when he interviewed Trump, all I could think was did the British set fire to the White House again? because this dude's a smoke show Doab be started on Anderson Cooper and his eyes. talkal about reflecting pools. Of course, Trump says stuff like this all the time early on in the Iran War when his emissaries were abroad Trying to negotiate a deal that fell apart, Trump was at a UFC fight gushing over one of the fighters.ight I'll give you a money you look so good. The two are looking to be a funudy. Happy Pride month Why are you so weird Dude just got done with what I can only imagine was a grueling physical experience and you're like, what's your skincare routine? To be clear, I don't think Trump is flirting with him. I think Trump wants to become him. You're a beautiful man. Now hold hands with me in a lightning storm so we can switch bodies Or should we do a phase off The point is Trump only cares about appearances, which is why He is so obsessed with the color of a pool. President Trump is promising an unbelievable makeover of one of Washington's most recognizable landmarks, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. But the fast moving project is adding up and drawing scrutiny. The cost of repainting the reflecting pool has now jumped to nearly fifteen million dollars We're doing now the reflective pond. They have a little swimming pool. Think of it as a swimming pool. They cleaned it. They took out, as I said moreore than ten dumpsters of garbage. We then steam cleaned it We then sandblasted it and then we pebble blasted it, the reflective Like. In fact is some people go up pond, some people' like a lake But the reflective leake, we use the material that doesn't allow leaks, you know, it's like Like a swimming pool doesn't lake use the this is This is called swwimming pool on steroids. It is a reflecting pool It is not a lake. No one calls it a lake. It's not a pond. No one calls it a pond. It is not a swimming pool. It's not a swimming pool on steroids. It's a reflecting pool. Have you been reading the Thsaurus for Dummies I can't believe I have to say this, but the reflecting pool is not the same as a swimming pool. They're not built in the same way. They have different cleaning systems, and most importantly, nobody. A swims in it. That's why you'll never go on a class trip to the Lincoln Memorial and see a six hundred and eighteen meter freestyle. But Trump genuinely seems to have thought the reflecting pool was no different from the pools at his various clubs. I built all these swimming pools And they're phenomenal. The twenty years I have one up the road where it's a great club on the Potomac River and I brouought it up at twenty something twenty one years ago and I built a beautiful Olympic size pool I have A guy who is unbelievable at doing to swimming pools up the road We'll have a club. We have an Olympic size swimming pool. We did it twenty years ago And it's perfect to this day. He said, what are you M me to look at. I said, haveave a little swimming pool. Think of it as a swimming pool I said, Oh, how big is? I said two thousand two hundred feet by one hundred and sixty seven feet wide. He said, That's the biggest swimming pool. He said, I've been doing this for a lot of years, I've never heard of a pool like that That's because it's not a swimming pool Go jump in a lake or a pond or a tub full of water, which you probably call a lake. This isn't your chinsy golf club with lawn chairs and marble fountains. Lincoln isn't in the middle of a ki pond with water shooting out of his eyes. Trump seems to be treating the reflecting pools so much like one of his own pools that he even let the contractor upsell him on a new color. He said, What color would you like, sir? I said What about turquoise like in the Bahamas? You said, Well, This is Washington, sir. We can give you tart wise, but why don' you try like We have a color It's called American Flag Blue. I said, that's the color I like. He talked me into it very easily Man, they saw you coming from a mile away I bet that contractor had a bucket of old blue paint sitting around and said, Ohh, yeah, we got one. It's called American Fack Blue Same way a car salesman upsells you on the exterior. Would you like to see this Ferrari? Now the colors, we have one called Big Penis Red This is like when realtors invent new names for neighborhoods in New York. They'll say we have a beautiful list in a quaint little neighborhood called Upper East Noho Village. And then it turns out it's just a raft in the East River Also I have to go back to this. What color would you like, sir? I said, Well What about turquoise like in the Bahamas? That was your first idea You wanted to make the Lincoln Relecting pool turquoise like in the Bahamas. What else were you thinking about? A swim up cocktail bar and a bunch of shirtless pool boys You know what? Maybe I'm just being a hater. Maybe I do have Trump Derrangement syndrome. Maybe I secretly want the Relecting pool and the rest of the Capitol to be dirty and gross because it advances my nefarious liberal agenda. President Trump's renovation of the Relecting Pool is complete, but for some reason, cleanliness in the Capitol is driving the left absolutely nuts. They're the party of original sin. They're the party of colonialism. They're a party of oppressors part You can't make up for the sins of your past, even if you're doing the good thing now. So of course they're going to have a problem with making Washington, DC look more beautiful. When you let that go into disrepair You're doing that on purpose. You're purposely subverting the greatness of America. So when Trump builds things in this style It is a direct contradiction of their worldview. He's saying, yes, we are a great country and we have been a great country. I'm sorry, we still talking about the Wool't you Goobers Yeah, that's right. The left hates America. If they had their way, they would replace the reflecting pool with a rainbow flag or worse some woke color like turquoise They want the reflecting pool to look bad. They want people to visit DC and say, whoa, I thought democracy was awesome, but the water in this pool is kind of cloudy. So now I think democracy sucks. I'm gonna go home and join Antifa when they ask me why I'm gonna write down because the pool was blue, but not American flag blue You know what? you're right, Fx news, You're right. You're right. When you're right, you're right. The left wants our country to be gross and dirty, unlike the right who honored our nation's architectural beauty by scaling the walls of the Citol and breaking the windows. They took a dump in the hallway, but they did it out of patriotism. just wantanted DC to smell like it did in seventeen seventy six. The point is, Trump won't be intimidated by the haters. He wants the pool to look beautiful. He wants it to be American flag blue, and that's exactly what he's going get. President Trump hoped to turn the Lincoln Memorial's reflecting pool what he called the American flag blue. That's the color he wanted for the water. but right now It's green as heck. It was drained. it was painted, thenen the water was put right back into it. And what you're seeing is an algal bloom. Algae has turned it green. What was briefly a chlorine blue swimming pool American flag blue, as Trump put it, is now quote Puke Green. So Trump gave out a no bid contract to a friendly company with an inflated profit margin for a project no one asked for. and in the process, he took an iconic American institution and turned it Puke Green. This brings us to a segment called The metaphor is way too obvious You guys, the metaphor is way too obvious. I mean, do I really need to spell it out for you? My whole job here is to come out and make ridiculous metaphors, but real life is already a metaphor. He said he was gonna to drain the swamp and he literally drained a pool or lake or small ocean and created an actual swamp. At this point, I might as well just quit and move to the Bahamas so I can swim in a pool that's actually turquoise. This has been the metaphor is way too obvious By the way, Ifute green isn't some mean insult the radical left or the crooked media made up. It's what the people who are at The reflecting pool are saying This is not the pageet blue Donald Trump said it was going to be. I was excited to see it, but I min it just looks swampy. How would you describe the color you're looking at right now Green You know, I came down here. I have pictures three weeks ago while this was getting painted and while this was done. I had colors of the old paint, the new paint, and everybody said it would be so beautiful. It's puke green. I want a puke. This is how ugly it is. It's disgusting Give this lady on Project Runway ASAP. Do you think you can combine a green shawl with a blue smock? It's puke green and now I wna puke. Make it work So the reflecting pool that we spent millions of dollars to make American flag blue is now pke green or If you're Fox News and you're paid to pretend you're colorblind, it's actually still blue. I'm here at the newly renovated reflecting pool. It's painted American flag blue. And the Democrats are gonna tell you, o, there's green algae. it looks so bad, but there's pool guys cleaning it up right now. No other president would do that Dude I'm going to say to you the same thing I say whenever I'm stuck behind an old person at a traffic light It's an We can see it right behind you. It's so green. it looks like the ninja turtles are about to crawl out In fact, the pool is so not blue that workers have been desperately trying to kill the algae any way they can. It's so green that workers could be seen this very morning bent over dumping jugs of hydrogen peroxide It looked like they picked up a true value into the water to kill the algae blooms. Not a great sign that the president's signature initiative looks like something out of breaking bad. I mean No expert, but I don't think it's ideal that one of the nation's most iconic treasures is now filled with chemicals that you're not supposed to come into contact with. I feel bad for the next duck who lands in that thing. You finally find a nice body of water to swim around and you end up burning off your cloaca that Duck is about to die I forgot we had such a friendly duck audience tonight Like right before we started, they were like, FYI, they're super into the knicks and ducks for some reason. This is what Trump does. He says he's going to fix something, insists he's the only one who can do it, then turns it into a corrupt boondogle that only makes the problem worse. It's true of everything he touches. If you add up Trump's promises, all you'd get is more than ten dumpsters of garbage. This has been a closer look Tuesday on NBC, Summer's number one show is back All knew America's got talent with Terry, Mel B, Simon, Sophia, and Howy. America's not only got talent, America's got heart and humanity This season, the star power is off the chart. That was so good. You're gonna be remembered for that This America's Got Talent, Tuesday on NBC We the history of show where we have opened the show with a guest, but we decided to make an exception. tonight on our first guest, we do this every fifty three years I have to come out before the first commercial and this is who our first guest is. He is a six time MBA all star. He just helped. lead the New York Knicks to their first NBA championship in fifty three years. Please welcome back to the show. NBA Champion and our friend, Carl Anthony Tow. Obviously it's a very exciting time for all New Yorkers, but especially you and your team. But it's extra special for you because you know we first met at a Fanatics event, an NBA basketball card event. I know that you and I both still like to open cards Even though you're a full grown man and I'm a two, two of those, age wise. I'm twice as old and I'm still doing it. But now MBAamp, you're gonna be on some cool cards. Are you excited about this? I'm hunting that tops now card Well, that is the craziest thing that like you are on a card, but they won't just give it to you. You got to buy it like other suckers. I feel like it's more like a fifty fifty rp. Yeah. It's exciting. But the joy of the chase, That's how we love. Yes, that's what it's all about. And how have you been doing? Have you been sleeping? Have you been relaxing post Saturday night? Sleeping no. Yeah. no sleepass ha't had. But celebrating, yes, a lot of celebrating. A lot of celebrating. a lot of sleep G morning Yesterday morning today show GMA. And people were commenting, you guys all looked a little tired. No Yeah Here's a photo and OGi especially was gettingidding And let' say I say the way I observe the team, OG always seems like almost like on the cusp of his Zen state. Like I don't feel like he's necessarily partied harder than you guys. That just seems to be like how he is. Yeah, I mean, you know, he should have more experience with winning a championship since this is his second one. I know Well it's just old hat to him. That's why he's not even excited. I I think OG understands something that everyone here understands No one can explain winning a championship in New York City. Yeah. And he for the first time is realizing this and all of us in fifty three years, we haven't seen this. Well, I just saw somebody put a list together, you know on social media ranking the New York championships over the years. And they had this third and someone actually said, actually the reason this is one is because, you know, if it's the Yankees, if it's the Mets, Mets fans aren't happy for Yankees fans and vice versa. The Kicks belong to all New Yorkers. And it's the craziest thing, five boroughs and you just saw I mean, the way people were celebrating. The celebrations, honestly were some of the most craziest things I've ever seen It just shows the passion our fans have. But like you said, it was It was so amazing to see our team bring together New York. Yeah. like it I've never seen all five boroughs get together hell. I saw Brooklyn celebrating for the Kicks. Yeah and they have a whole team.ang out a Theyang have a whole team. You know, I had Josh and Jayalen on together, I met you on the same night, I met OG. And my takeaway, don't take this in the wrong way All of you you're such nice people that I actually thought like, I don't think they have what it takes. Every round we heard the same thing as well. But then it was amazing 'cause like obviously you kind of had your backs against the wall. know each of these ges you double digit you deficits, but you seem like a group that never turned on each other. you never saw you guys lose faith in one another. And I realized the journey I went on is I'm like, you know what? niceness can win. Yeah. Power of friendship. The power friendship. Yeah. It was Did you I mean, I feel like people are gonna ask OG about this forever and they're gonna ask everybody forever. What was the reaction to the tip in? L in this moment,? Like I said, right hand of God. Yeah. And you can't spell God without OG. Yeah I feel like like you saved me and my whole family, hu This is likeull you pulled my dog out of a fire I mean, yeah, that was he saved the whole city. The whole city wanted to give him a hug. I was just the one that able to do it I want to talk about Fran your fiancee Jordan who's backstage I was so happy to me her. This was her handbag received a lot of attention. Yeah. like so you are you are a suspicious person. believe the handagack absolutely was integral., No, absolutely. If she had said to you like, I'm actually looking to switch up my fashion tonight . A handbag is exactly where it needed to be at every Nick game and uefeatated in this playoff run too. so ye G to be in the Smithsony. I mean A at the very least, let's get into the basketball haall of fame. H has to be. There were obviously a great amount of celebrities that received attention. You know, a team that belonged to all New Yorkers. but what was especially emotional for me to watch was All the former Kicks who, you know never reached this pinnacle and yet seem so happy For you guys, for the organization, like the Patrick Ewings of the world, could you guys feel that through the playoff Yeah, you know, it's weird When you're winning the chip, you understood I don't think for us as a players, we can truly understand the magnitude. we done Yeah, because it really wasn't meant for us. It was meant for the fans And I didn't know at that point, when you keep thinking about the fans, the fans of fans We were really healing Patrick and them too in this run. And I didn't realize how much healing we would actually do for the city in winning that championship. So it's an honor that we were the team to be able to do it. It really does. The whole thing trickles down and everybody getivs me a winner thank you Come Obviously, Mike Brown, you know, so much credit to the coaching job I did with you guys this year. likely when you're down, twenty seven points at halftime What is a co can a coach actually say anything to help like, is it like you know what I mean? Is he like, I figured job? Yeah. But then we're down swing up. Yeah U now he came in there at halftime and he was just You know, he was positive, like he said, he was more of like saying At least we know now we get to swing for defenses. Yeah in the second half and for me leaders of the team I just came in at halfime and told them, you know, experience teaches you a lot. We saw ourselves in the same situation last year against Boston in Bon. And we found a way to come back and get the win. so Who says we can't do it in front of our own fans? Yeah. We got the best fans in the world. We can do anything with them b Uh, your dad shhout out to you dad, every game. Oh, yes. And your dad also, you know, fly had to get to San Antonio Yes. Commercial. Cercial. How much does he want a seat on that next plane I don't think that much. Yeah., I don't think that much. Yeah. I think he likes me on his own. He likes his journey. I feel like And is he somebodys when he's flying to San Antonio, which I'm gonna assume there's a connection. that doesn't seem like a very easy airport to get to. Not at all. Do people by the time the flight lands, do people know he's your dad? Oh, he'll let everyone know. Yeah, o. That might be why he wants to fly commercialally. Hes like everyverybody on your plane already knows. They'll sometimes call me and see I'll see a regular call and they'll end there immediately. I'm like, o I already know something bad about that. but then he's faceetime in me know This is not a normal faceetime. He knows them at practice, so it must be something. he'll call me but Hey cat, what's up, man? Hey,y, I want to introduce you to my new friend right here And I'm like, Hey, how you doing? I'm his son. just so you didn't know. like I w to believe that whoever he's with is like, I don't believe you I mean, I feel like he's almost as big of a celebrity as all of us. Yeah. I feel like he's just known. He's up there. I feel like people talk to me about spike Timothy Chalamet And Carl Town Sr.. Yeah You also, you know you spoke very lovingly in I think a way that resonated with anybody who's ever lost a parent. You lost your mom during COVID in twenty twenty. And you know, you talked about how she was with you this whole time and you dedicated to her. I think that meant a lot of when you shared that, it must have been a special part of this for you It was like I said, there was a lot of healing that went on in this playoff run Fans for the alumni. me personally, I think that this was a dream come true, obviously but to do it back home. have my family with me to see my grandmother, my mom's mom there at the games and to just see the the love she had, you know, for It's been a tough couple years for her. as a mother, losing your daughter, but for her to kind of see that moment and for me to finally see when one of the few times Recently, I seen her smile. Yeah. You know, it just showed how much healing really was being done with this playoff Well, it was great and it I really appreciateated you sharing it with us. I also appreciate, you know, that you were, you know, from Jersey, played in Minnesota, obviously coming back here was a big deal. and just your I feel like everybody now has to prove how long they were Nickfan, but this is This is also real. this like hurt me 'cause I realized how much younger you are than me, but This is your tweet from twenty twelve You wrote Having no. Having no school is awesome Get to watch Jeremy Lynn highlights over and over. again It's crazy It's soild 'cause I was just telling Jordan about this week or two ago when playing the home game and N next posted this video, and Jeremy Lynn was coming to Masson Square Garden for the first time in a long time. They had this journey with him going to NBA store to buy jersey. He mentioned me. And he was like, yeah, I bought me and my kids. cat jerseys. We're big cat fans. And I was like, man, that's crazy because I'm a bigger Jeremy Lynn.. But you know that? So it it's so funny how life comes at a in full circle moment where twenty twelve, I'm talking about Yeah, in a way ditching school to go watch J. But Also, you know now I'm fourteen years later and he's wearing my jersey and he's bringing his kids to watch me play and he's calling, he's saying that I'm one of his favorite players. That's amazing. That'saz Episode one a DCU series following you through the finals. I mean, I think based on obviously, everybody's going to want to continue to experience this again and again from different angles, can we expect more of that? Yes, yes. there' be more episodes, especially this week leading up to the parade You know, the fans will let me know. We also are trying to make a long form of it too as well so they can have a lot more insight to my daily life journey that was to get to the NBA Finals and being in the NBA Finals because it's a lot of work and And there's a lot of time you don't see To get the win is a lot of time and dedicated before the game actually even happens that you're gonna actually be able to see this time. And as a fellow card freak, I just want to shout at Big Bodega cards. Yes, yes, yes, yes I u I will say my carard addiction is pretty bad. so'm pretty upset Mael Rubin right now because I've been before the games, Everyone's asking me, how do you like tone down you're about to play biggest moments of your career and I'm like telling everyone relax. I'm right now, Fanatics collect bidding on something. We got stuff to do. It's nice to know nothing will ever get us out. No no, we're bad. We have problems. Hey, what a delight to be with you, especially tight? Congratulations man. I love you. Congratulationsge Our guest tonight delivered one of the greatest moments in NBA finals history, his tip in to win game four. Help the Kicks win their first championship in fifty three years. Please welcome to the show, two time NBA H Thank you on behalf of all of us for what you've done for this city. I asked you how you're feeling backstage. I mean a little tired, right? Yeah, a little bit tired. I haven't slept much so Yeah trying my best to keep going. We appreciate that you guys continue get up. The city wants to see you right now. You did GMA. A lot of people were talking about GMA. I mean, you guys all looked tired, but you looked like You were Ewhere. But let me just say, I've met you before. I've seen you get interviewed even after the tip in. likeike you to me as opposed to, I've seen these other four guys have a ton of energy. You always seem very Zen to me. I'm pretty chill. Yeah, proud of you. I'm pretty laid back Right here, I was very tired. Yeah, I hadn't slept and I don't know how many days. Yeah Yes, I was just very tired but I mean my summer patches They've been help me a lot. Yep. That's good. you did't look You didn't look bad. You just looked like you were like somewhere else. No, I was there Yeah, yeah. Did you ever, I mean, I will say you guys as a team, I feel like you all look out for each other. There was such good chemistry. And then I watched this, nobody was helping anybody out No one's helping anyone now. I mean, everyone was pretty tired they're wearing sunglasses. I should have maybe done that. You're right. Everybody's giving you a hard time. Like there's hats down, there's sunglasses, you're just exposed. But after this, I was exposed. I didn't know I could have wore a hat or sunglasses, but after this, I put on my summer Fridays.. got myyes right. Yeah, there you go. The next shot was better Is out out You of course realize, and I'm sorry to even be another person to do it, but the rest of your life, you're gonna both be asked about the tipp in. Also, you're gonna have to hear people tell you where they were during the tipp in Like you will have to receive this like you're the pope and they like need to like U, But I, you know, I watched you on the tonight Show the other day, like you You what you were thinking as you were going in was not, I'm going to tip this in What were you thinking I try to dunk the ball.. That's my initial thought. Yeah dunk it and then if not, try to dip it in. So I mean, again, obviously this is happening very fast. You probably don't have a ton of time to think. but like how soon like when you're in the air, you're like, oh, I'm not gonna to dunk this? Pretty soon.. so As soon I gotten the ball, I realized It is funny that your great moment like you thought was going to be even greater Like everybody's like, that tippet was amazing. You're like, I had something even better planned I did, but I mean, just how How many times have you rewatched it? I think there's this thing that maybe athletes are less prone to go back and watch their own highlights as far as fans do, but I've seen it bit Yeah, yeah. I've watched it a lot. and is it as enjoyable for you to watch as it is for New Yorkers? Yeah, I mean, it's pretty cool. Yeah. I'm good. I, you know I mean it is. I do enjoy that you keep describing it as pretty cool. I feel it is don't think so? I do. It's pretty cool. I mean, again, ool I don't have an issue with cool. It's the pretty part where I'm like, Yeah. Pret makes it sound like you're trying to decide. You're like, I think so. It's really cool. Really cool. Yeah. It was really cool You know what? the way you say pretty cool is better. Have you watched we'd also like to show real quick. Here' some people collectively agree with OG that this is pretty cool It is cool. It's really cool. You're a two time NBA champion. You won with the Toronto Raptors. playoffs you miss though, you had an emergency appendectomy, correct. So it must be a lot nicer to actually participate in a final ice. I'm sure both of the championship rem mean a lot special me to play is probably a little bit more fun Kat was here. He was talking about what a fan he was of Jeremy Lyn. when he was little, you actually played with Jeremy. Yeah. Has he reached out if you talked to him? He did reach out I' been teexo in Jeremy. I mean, Jeremy is one of my favorite teammates ever. Great dude. Great person, just a love Jermmy. Uh And I imagine There must be so many, it does seem like not only a camaraderie amongst your teammates, but it does feel like across the league right now, there's a lot of respect for people. guysu that used to be teammates or guys you played against. I mean, have you just been hearing from a lot of people about how cool this whole journey is for your team? A lot for sure former teammates, a lot of my former raapers teammates Just guys are across the league, ust everyone. It's a Botherhood for sure. You're also the first NBA champion from England. Congratulations. Born in England Even before this, this' been you have been trying to bring basketball back to London. You have some camps over there, correct? Yeah, everyvery summer, I do camps over there. J trying to build a game of basketball just grow the game And do you feel like it's so this will be I feel like helpful. I think it would be helpful. And even this in the future, I'm gonna do a court refurbishment with the Mayor of London So. Oh that's fantastic. We're very excited for that as well early days, you were not just skills on the court. This is a music festival. Y high school posted this, correct You received an outstanding for large Ensembles certificate What instrument were you playing? The violin. Violin. Do you still still the violin. Yeah I still a violin. Can you still play at all? still playin You can still play. Don't forget how to play violin. What's that? You don't forget. You don't forget. Well, certainly not when you're outstanding one.
