Welcome in. you're locked on to the Texas Longghorns. I'm your host BK Brad Kellner, some early preseason accolades for Texas football. We'll get to that in segment two and then a few thoughts on Jim Schloss Negel's recent coaching hires coming up in segment three. But first, let's talk some more Texas recruiting because after the month of June that Texas just had I think this is a fair question Can the Longhorns finish with the number one recruiting class in the country for the twenty twenty seven cycle The answer is yes. That is absolutely in play. Now, does that mean it's likely? Not necessarily. A lot of that is completely out of Texas' hands, right? Other schools are still going to add players. There are still flips coming. We're still about five months away from the first national signing dayay. So there's a lot left to unravel. But is there a real path for Texas to finish with the top ranked class in the country Yes. and that alone tells you how much things have changed over the last month. I mean, towards the end of May, people were asking if Texas was even going to have a top ten class. It ranked outside of the top twenty five in the last couple of weeks of May. There was some impatience around this fan base. We preached patience here. and I think most of y all felt that something big was coming and then something big happened. The month of June was crazy. Texas went on a heater. It was commitment after commitment after commitment from John Meredith to junior Tuo to Montre Jackson to Tyler Alexander to Casi Curry to Lucas Roa to Kyron Brown. I know I'm missing a few. And then, by the way, yesterday on july first Rndon Sherard joined the fold and the list keeps growing. So all of the sudden, Texas is now sitting at number five nationally according to the composite rankings. and more importantly The Longhorn still have several major targets left on the board. That's the key. This is already a great class, but it can still become truly elite And the path to number one starts with three names. Lannon Williams Callas, Ishmel Camera, Munchin Sales. If Texas goes three for three on those guys, we're probably talking about number one Williams Callas one of the best running backacks in the country, a five star. Camara one of the best offensive line prospects in the country. anotherother five star. Sales one of the best wide receivers in the country. You guessed it another five star. This would not just be adding three nice players. This is three premium pieces who would change the entire perception of this recruiting class And according to the class calculator, there's actually a tool out there that does this if Texas added those three to their current group, not including Greedy James by the way. I expect him to flip to LSU tonight. The Longhorns would move up to number one as things stand right now That is how close this dream is to being reality. and that's why this is not just fan fiction. It's actually on the table. Let's talk about those three names individually Landon Williams Callus feels very real for Texas. We talked about him some late last week. We've talked about him a few times, but the Longhorns are trending here. They've done a great job in that recruitment. newew running backs coach Jabargea Luke has been consistent. The official visit a couple of weeks ago was strong. The fit makes sense. by the way H high school production is absurd. overver three thousand five hundred rushing yards last season and more than sixty total touchdowns as a junior. This is one of the best running backs in America. And again, Texas is in a great spot. This would be a huge offensive weapon and another big in state recruiting win for the Longhorns. Then there's Ishmael Kamara He could legitimately be Texas is starting left tackle in twenty twenty seven obbviously if he joins the class. Trevor Goozby very likely to go pro after this year and be a very high draft pick in next year's draft There's no obvious replacement on the roster. A couple of young guys who could get that spot. Obviously Texas could go to the portal, but Camera AKA the French freak. he is that good to where people are maybe talking about that being a possibility. Remember Kelvin Banks did that not too long ago. massive human being six six three hundred and forty pounds. He's got rare athletic traits. He is a stud and Texas has really surged in that recruitment. There's some scuttle butt that he's going to be committing here in the next couple of weeks. The Longhorn seemingly in the lead on that one too. even if he does commit that's one you're going to have to recruit through the whistle. That's just reality AM SMU, everybody else. They are going to stay on Camera until national signigning day. But if Texas gets him in the boat, that's I mean, another Great step into landing the number one overall class. And then there's the wide receiver Mchin sales, the number two wide out in the class. This is the hardest one. If you ask me to handicap these three recruitments right now, I'd say Texas is in the lead for those first two names. Longhorns playing a little catch upp here But Texas is in the fight They've made it interesting. The official visit went about as well as it could have possibly gone back in June. The Longhorns w compicated recruitment. He's from Indianapolis. Indiana very much involved So is Ohio state. so is LSU. so is Alabama. Obviously, the Longhorns already have Eastern Royal committed, the number one receiver in the country. So the question is another thing we talked about in more detail last week How realistic? is it to pay for and land the two top receivers in the class Long Horns would love to do it. I think we all would love for them to do it. But it feels like that one may be the least likely as of right now. The Horns gave themselves a chance with the OV a few weeks ago. But as of this moment, again, things could change But as of this moment, feels a bit more difficult for sales to be a part of this class then Williams Callas and Camera So just on paper, the number one class is simple, but it's not easy. again, if you land all three of those guys, there's a very good chance you're number one. If you land two of those three guys, Texas is probably right there in the mix, maybe at number two, potentially still within striking distance, but you know, right now A andM is at the top. They've got the number one class at this moment. Texas inching closer and closer seemingly by the day that sales recruitment could be the thing that totally sk tips the scaales. easy for me to say. obviously For Texas to rise to number one. They've got to hang on to Eastteron Royal. I mean, that's a non negotiable if you're talking about ending up with the top class, a massive piece of what Texas is building offensively, a five star, one of the top ten players in the country I'm sure y'all are seeing all these articles seemingly every week saying that LSU is about to flip them or Florida is about to flip them. He's from New Orleans. The pressure in his home state is absolutely real seemingly is getting louder the closer we get to signing day. So look, while we could talk about adding munch and sales. that'd be great. Texas already has to protect what it already has. If Texas loses Royal and misses on sales then the path to number one likely disappears unless the Longhorns pull off some major major flips elsewhere That's why Royal is so important to this conversation. Texas has to keep recruiting him like he is un committed The third part about this number one equation is what happens around the country. right? Texas could do all of those things. They could land all three of those guys, but if A and M somehow adds four more four or five stars then Maybe they'll regain number one. Notre Dame's got a highly ranked class. Miami, Oklahoma They're all the other top five schools right now. They are in the mix for a number of key players. They still have some sever several uncommitted targets on the board We will see and feels like Texas has a little more space to work with and some of those other teams. a lot of top programs already wrapped up the bulk of their high school classes a little bit earlier. The Longhorns, I think may have more room for more major additions than some of the teams that it's chasing in terms of those recruiting rankings. And again, you look at some of the best remaining targets that are out there Texas in a better position. than most for a lot of them, especially Williams Calis and Kamara. if the Longhorns land both of those guys that's going to put pressure on everybody else. But you know, AM and Oklahoma, Miami, Notre Dame, all of those schools. they aren't going to stop reccruiting But for the Longhorns, they are positioned to make a real run number one And let's say Texas does land Williams Callas and Camera in this class and sales go somewhere else probably puts Texas close to the top, mayaybe not number one then you'd have to rely on some major flips. DJ Jacobs the name to watch Current Ohio State commit Marcus Ficatu, a guy who committed to Ohio state earlier this week. Texas really likes him. They're going to recruit that one through the whistle. Jalen Brewster, the number one recruit in the country currently committed to Texas tech I think he's about to decommit and flip to LSU. Texas is staying around. They got an official visit back in June. couple of linebackers. right now the Longhorns don't have any linebackers committed, but Ta Sateell a committed to Oregon. Izy Hammonds committed to Oklahoma State to players that Texas really, really liked. And if the Longhorns, look, they can get flips before the season starts, but if Texas gets off to a great start in the fall and maybe some of those other teams where those guys are committed. falter a little bit, then Texas could land a flip or two. Sark has done a very, very good job of that during his Texas tenure. So Long winded way To answer the question, can Texas finish number one? Yes, the path is absolutely real. It's not easy, but it is possible and what a statement that would be. Look, either way, this class is shaping up to be really, really good. Number one, number two, number five, whatever. the Longhorns bringing in some big time blue chip talent. It's going to be a huge part of the future of this program But obviously Pretty freaking cool. We' love to get y'all's thoughts. Can it happen? Will it happen? Let me know in the comments below. All right, let's talk about the current team. Five longonghorns were named Walter Camp preseason All Americans. We'll tell you who made the cut And we'll also get into the conversation about who has the chance to exceed expectations in twenty twenty six. comoming up next on lock onown L Hors But first a shout out to our friends at Fanle. Let's talk about some preseason love that Texas football is already getting and more of this is to come between now and september fifth. For sure. Walter Camp released its preseason all America teams earlier in the week and five Longhorns made the cut. four on the first team, one on the second team your four first team reps, Arch mananning at quarterback Goozby tackle, Colin Simmons at Edge and Rahem Biles, the pitch transfer at linebacker your one second team rep Coleman, the transfer wide receiver and yeah, get used to this. Texas is going to have all sorts of players on preseason All America teams and a award watch list and early NFL mock drafts. We know what the expectations are around here. and look, that's a good thing. Texas very much a part of the national conversation. We all wanted Texas to have a leadite talent. I feel like this may be the most talented roster in college football. Matter of fact, I do think it is the most talented roster in college football. And I know I'm not alone with that sentiment There you go some preseason accolades right there. And I don't want to spend a ton of time going player by player through every name. We've talked about these guys enough and we'll continue to talk about the more Arch mananning. He's going to be on a bunch of these preseason lists. off course, Rahem Biles massive portal pickup, a game changer. I sold think was ESPN. rank their top ten defensive players in the sport. Colin Simmons, obviously there so is Rahem Biles. Better then you might think, maybe not you. you might know how good he is, personers listening to me right now, but I'm glad some national folk are talking about this guy. I'm not sure Texas fans are talking about him enough. Obviously Camp Coleman, the number one nine quarterback in the portal. Those guys all make sense. But I want to ask y'all a couple of different questions here of those five names that we talked about Who are the safest bets to actually be all Americans at the end of the season? preseason and postseason all Americans are not the same thing. We love the pre season stuff. It gets us excited for the season, but postseason is more important. That's what's earned over the course of an entire college football season for me and you could make strong cases for all five and I hope all five of them are on post season all American list, but I think the two safest bets. I think the two best players on this Texas team right now Trevor Gooseb and Collin Simm Goozbe First team all SEC last year in the all American conversation last year. I mean, just an absolute stud Obviously not the flashiest name because he plays left tackle, but started all thirteen games last year just a freaking monster on the offensive line. You see some of these mock drafts in twenty twenty seven. you see himS the first offensive linen on the board. He's going to be battle tested going up against the brutal schedule that the Longhorns have and I know there's no real stats besides PFF grades for offensive limemen, but I don't have to explain to all how good Trevor Gooseby is. I think he's without question the best left tackle in the sport. and I think he is going to back that up this year. We know how valuable that position is. We know how valuable he is s I'm saying guaranteed. Nothing's guaranteed, but that one feels pretty safe to me. and then Colin Simmons on the other line of scrimmage led the SEC with twelve sacks a season to go fifteen and a half TFLs Freshmen all America two years ago. Hell at the end of the year. he was a second team Walter camp all American and first team all SEC player. shouldhould have been SEC defensive player of the year. I don't know what the conference coaches were thinking there. One of the biggest defensive names onene of the best overall players in the sport going into twenty twenty six. He's going to be on every single one of these lists. He should be the preseason SEC defensive player of the year We'll see what happens later this month when we get to SEC media days in Tampa. He is a beast. Everybody knows how good he is. twoo years of legit bona fide production in the toughest conference in the sport. He's led the Longhorns in and Sax in each of the last two years And again, led the deepest conference in the country in Sax in twenty twenty five I don't care that teams are going to game plan to slow this guy down. He's still going to find ways to produce. He is elite. The first step, the bend the twitch, obviously his ability to finish. That's all American stuff So again, you can make a case for Arch and Cam and Rahem Biles too. But for me the safest two on this list Gooseby and Simmons, the guy who protects the quarterback, the guy who wrecks the other teams quarterback. Those were the guys that I think are the safest right there. Now, I want to ask a different question I don't know if Snubs is the right word. Maybe it's Who of the of names that I did not mention everyverybody else on the Texas roster. if I can relearn the ability to speak English here Who do you think has the best chance to be an all American at the end of the year For me they' two guys that came top of mind, but I definitely want to hear from y'all in the comments below I went with Ryan Wingo as number one. Second team all SEC L year led Texas in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns with Camp Coleman in the mix. he's going to attract so much attention. Ryan Wingo will going up against a lot of number two corners now and they'll just have to deal with less double teams and again, less focus from opposing defensive coordinators and defensive backs. I think that's going to open some things up. We've talked about it A Nauseum this off season. We know the abilities there When the ball's in his hands, he's one of the most explosive players in the sport got to do a better job of actually getting the ball in his hands. Can he clean up the drops? Can he fix the mental lapses? If he can, he can absolutely be an all American this year He's maybe my top choice out of anybody. And then on defense I went with Ji McDonald He's a stud too, a guy who if he Pro. in the twenty twenty six draft. he would have been drafted. I think he's got a chance with a really good season to be a top fifty to sixty kind of player. Maybe what Andrewcuba did obviously Mcuba was only here for one year, but think about that. He put it all together in his final year of college football endnded up as a second round pick by Philadelphia having a great start to his pro career. McDonald has all of the tools to become a difference maker in the back of the Texas defense. and they're going to need him with Michael Taff obviously going to the NFL. He's going to take way more of a leadership role, but also he's just going to have to be a really good football player. The athleticis is there. The versatility is there to. He could play a few different spots on this Texas defense and I'm fascinated to see how he works with Blake Gideon back as the safeties coach more importantly with Will Muschamp in his new look, Texas defense. He is physical. He could move around. He can make plays on the football. You need stats to be in all Americans. So interceptions forced fumbles, TFLs Big moments and big games. It's not just the Ie test when you play a position like safety Hopefully McDonald can be around the football a little bit more and put up some of those numbers. And again, with the schedule that Texas is playing against, the eyes of the country will be upon Texas offtten when we get to the fall, if Wingo and McDonald make big plays in those big games, then They've got a chance to again, be in the discussion for all Americans at the end of the year. Of course the five guys that we talked about at the start of the segment can be as well. But yeah, that's my list. We' love to get you allall' thoughts too Again, this is just the beginning of all of these preseason awards and honors that Texas is going to get over the next sixty five, or sixty five, sixty six days until week one against Texas State. But a lot of love from the folks over at Walter Camp. Now it's about proving it on the football field. Again, who is the safest bet to be an all American at the end of the year and then who didn't make the cut do you think will be an all American at seasons and? would love to hear from y'all in the comments below. All right, one segment to go on a Thursday show. Let's talk a little Texas baseball. Jim Schlossnegel just made two really good hires to his coaching staff We're going to talk about them coming up on locked on longonghorns Before we had AT andT business wireless coverage, our delivery GPS wasn't the most reliable Once our driver had to do a fourteen point turn to get back on route, a fourteen point turn. and influence they even live stream the whole thing. Not good for business Now with AT andT Business wireless, routes are updating on the fly and deliveries are on time And The influenceer did get us fifty three new followers though, AT and T Business wireless. Connecting changes everything This land is your land. But have you really seen it? Maybe it's time to slow down and enjoy the ride. America is calling. Explore it with omni hotels and resorts. Book now and save up to twenty perents, plus kids eat free All right, welcome back loocked on Long Horn, your team every day. Let's talk some Texas baseball. Jim Schloss Ngel has officially filled out his twenty twenty seven coaching staff couple of new hires this week, and I think Longhorn fans should feel really good about both of them. Texas brought in Jack Martyr from Oregon and brought back Caleb Longley, who was making his return to Austin, was here for a few years, spent some time with Texas and M and then has most recently been with the Cincinnati Reds orrganization, obviously in the MLB. Jim Slosengel had some important shoes to fill this off season. Of course, Nolan Kain leaving Texas to go back to Texas and M That was not a minor move. That was a big blow. No one Kane. I know we're supposed to dunk on him now that he's on the rival side, but if we're being honest here, he's one of the best recruiters in college baseball. He helped Sls build an A and M when he was there foollowed him to Texas, helped build The Texas roster in his two years here and now he's back in college station. So that was a big loss. It kind of shook the college baseball world when he left. Texas needed an answer. and I'll give S lost credit. didn't react right away. He didn't jump and make the first hire he could have made. He took his time Looked at a number of different guys, talkalked to a number of different guys And then responded about as well as he could have. Jack Martyr is a really impressive replacement. comomes over from Oregon where he spent the last seven years there and served as the Ducks recruiting coordinator. So taking the exact same title here in Austin. obbviously, we saw what Jack Martyr can do firsthand. Texas played Oregon in the Austin Super reggional. And I remember Jim Schlosnegel before that series even started said Oregon looked like an SECT And then after Texas won those two games against the Ducks to reach the College World Series, he said the Ducks were an Omaha quality roster and both teams he felt like should have made the collollege World sereries. I don't know if Schloss knew Kane was leaving when he made those comments, but those comments made it pretty easy for me to realize and for all of us to realize why he was looking in Oregon's dugout to find Nolan Kaine's replacement You know, Oregon They were not some long established college baseball powerhouse before this recent run. They had missed the postseason four years in a row starting in twenty sixteen and then Martyr and comppany helped elevate that program. Oregon's now been in six straight regionals. They've been in supers in three of the last four years. They become one of the best programs on the West Coast. and a huge part of that has been talent acquisition Martyr helped Oregon put together recruiting classes that ranked inside the top twenty in three of the last four years. And that includes a top five class in twenty twenty two That's what excites me the most. You' replacing one of the best recruiters in the sport. You better go get somebody with real recruiting chops. Texas did And Martyr's young. He's respected though. He's got a good resume. He's got connections to the West Coast. And again, he helped build kind of a dormant program into a national contender. I think down the line. if he wants to be a head coach, he will be a head coach of a power program Less with more is kind of what he did. Oregon baseball, they don't spend like Oregon football does. I know we talk about the Phil Night Nike money and it's crazy, this that and the other. Oregon has lost a ton of talent in the portal this off season. Why because they're not paying their guys. They don't spend the money on baseball. We'll talk more about the portal in a moment Now Margor comes to Texas. M resources, obviously a bigger brand, more history and SEC platform. Jim Sloss Nagl running the show. That's an exciting combination So Martyr did a lot with less at Oregon. What can he do with more? here in Austin. I'm fascinated to see that, but that to me is why this hire makes sense. And then I mentioned the portal. a lot of Oregon's best players have hit the portal. Some of them have already signed with other teams, but Angel Lah, that's the name we've talked about before. onene of the best players still available Visited Austin this week. Maybe some news coming on that front soon. Wishful thinkin and for sure. he's visiting a few other schools as well. And I don't want to sit here and guarantee just because Martyrs now on the Texas staff that we're about to get all of these Oregon ducks, but obviously it helps have a coach on this staff who knows those players knows those backgrounds and they've got the preree existing relationships. So the longonghorn still looking for more help in the portal. The window to enter is already closed, but guys who are in the portal can still commit There's a number of talented players. Angelia is at the very top of the list. Obviously Martyr, the hope is he's here for multiple years. So it's not just one off seasons worth of roster construction. But I like that hire. The other hire is Caleb Longley This one's fascinating. Again, he's been here before. He was on David Pierce' staff Fr twenty twenty two through twenty twenty four, spent a year at A andM with Michael Ely in twenty twenty five, spent the last six months with the Cincinnati Reds Organization as a minor leeague hitting instructor back in Austin, expected to work with Troy Towitky with the hitting, alsoso working with infielders defensively as well. and he's a pretty good recruiter Texas had two openings. No one Kane obviously left, but Chuck Box left. He was the director of program development at Texas. He went to become the head coach at Jackson Academy in the state of Mississippi. So two staff pieces to replace. I like the two hires. Long way has a really good reputation in baseball circles. He's very well regarded for player development. he's got some major league experience now. He's been a part of multiple college programs. So he's done some recruiting and obviously some developing at this level. And you go back to his first stint at Texas. The Longhorns at some of their best. offensive seasons in school history in twenty twenty two The longongghorn todayay S school record one hundred and twenty eight home runs They also crossed the hundred home run mark again in twenty twenty four Ivan Mlendez, Glden Spikes winner. only one in Texas history the year hit thirty two home runs Longly was a part of that staff for the Hispanic Titanic as he was so affectionately known as during his Texas career. That was one of the best offensive years
