I'm Casey Viera listen, the San Antonio Spurs tonight drafting their guy filling a position of need, one that was very much exploited throughout the playoffs . The question now though , was it in fact the right guy for the job ? And I'm Devin Brown It's draft night, a lot of dreams being filled. Casey, we got that. We got Yanis, we got a lot. Let's have a great show. This is Locked On Spur Squad Show. The twice a week show where Spurs Top gets real . No filters , no flop, just raw take, sharp opinions and straight up, passion for the game. The way only locked on podcast network knows how . Let's drop some dimes and Squat up. The Spur squat shows start now . Indeed, it does welcome into another get together a special NBA draft edition of the Spur Squad Show right here on locked onurs S.p Of course, part of the lock ed on podcast network, the number one sports podcast network in the world. He of course, NBA champion Devin Brown. My name's Casey Ber, the host of the title pod Matthew Tynan currently at the Spurs facility as we speak , hoping to touch base with Matt at some point tonight. He's going to be waiting until Brian Brian Wright puts a bow on things at the conclusion of the draft. So hopefully at some point in the next hour we, can touch base with Tyne in as to getting the overall pulse of the squad. Of course, draft night tonight , one that proves to be a little bit interesting is the San Antonio Spurs get their guy full of boy. We'll hit on that, of course , plus the residual impacts of the Yanosante de Cumpo trade and what that means for San Antonio potentially and of course the draft as a whole not done yet as of course a couple more picks left tonight and the second round pick coming about tomorrow. But all right, let's talk about what we know with the San Antonio Spurs team at least in the immediacy for what they have and what they dec ided to do and where they elected to go. And the answer is they decided to go Mr. Devin Brown with the bigs at least at that power forward center spot taking Jade Aquaintance out of the University of Kentucky , six nine two fifty three play two years at the collegiate level, only four games last year at Kentucky , the nineteen year old. He had a torn ACL after a strong twenty four game stretch that he had at A SU was an all conference defensive player in the big twelve averaged two and a half blocks in over a steel a night nine points and eight rebounds a night , but the Torn ACL limited him in a significant capacity last season. But what they're basically paying for, so to speak and what they're aiming for at that number twenty is to get a little bit of versatility at that four five, spot on the def ense event. It seems like the player cups, you hear everything from a Robert Williams to Kavan Looney to Clint Capella type of player. You think at that six nine time frame , perhaps a little bit more athletic or six nine frame, if you will, I guess you should say or you can say . But interesting enough because it fills a void and the fact that he is nineteen, he is still young shows that there's a level of confidence that they do have that they're not that they were not taken back by the injury . Well, I think you're going for , you know, a young athletic guy . I think the Spurs are realizing just like, you know, we're letting our viewers know we 've seen what a full season of Wimby looks like . And I think moving forward with Wimby, you're comfortable with him playing on the outside if you have a guy besides your guards and not taking any credit away from Castle and Harper with the great rebounding the sale with the great rebounding that they do , but you have another big that you can put out there and have Wimby Roam and have this guy, you know, in cases, you know, being that, you know, is he night not nineteen yet. We don't know. We'll see, you know, what happens with the Summer League is my first thought on how much how they use them and things like that, but if you get the guy that's had a couple of good college years, you get a young athletic guy which you needed , a guy that can get in there and rebound and mix it up, you know, six nine two fifty five. He's got some beef on him . So if you're the spur s right now, yeah, you draft them and you know, that may scare a lot of people to four games, things like that, but when you go that high, Casey, twenty there's something there and there's something there that the spurs like and so that's why they went with that pig . There was pre injury doing a little bit of research now if you're looking for the glass half full sentiment because you know the way we articulate it I, can understand why some of the comments right now are a little a little bit skeptical . But there was a sentiment that pre injury and everything that surrounded that, that there was a chance that you were looking at a top ten pick in the draft to be determined, of course . Right . I think though it's hard to it at least for me , thinking about it a little bit more . It feels like it's a little hard to get past the injury thing at least in the immediacy because it was a torn ACL, a torn meniscus. He came back briefly last year in the end of I should say in the middle of conference place, so you figure like late December, early January . Well, there's a couple of things there. There's about three or four things there. Kentucky the twentieth pick. So there's something there . And then with the guys that you mentioned it, you know, it's all about when you get in front of the GM, Brian Wright, when you get in front of the coach, Mitch , how does the players come off to them? They might be better picks, they might be better players , but how is he going to fit in Mitch's locker room . You see what I'm saying? So when you look at those things and you know knowing the history behind how San Antonio you know has passed up on talented players and gone with the other players that fit their locker room . You know this isn't really a locker room that you want to upset right now because you've had so much success. So you know, I get it. I know there were other guys that were available , but I think the Spurs right now , you know, there being that he's not even nineteen twenty years old , you know, I think it's a safe pick for them. It's interesting that you say safe on that front. Yeah , because that would also suggest to me that there will be an effort to go out and rectify this that four, five spot more in free agency or potentially via trade that type deal because putting a significant workload on any nineteen year old, so to speak is, of course, ambitious. Like you look at Carter Bryant last year, of course, that was a work in progress to where they got let alone one that's trying to find his way back in the flow of things just from pure day to day basketball life, like forget the NBA , forget the NBA , just pure basketball day to day life. That's going to be a big challenge. So we'll I guess we'll see. I guess we'll see. I tell you what, what the broadcast , the broadcast for a little while , they were and I hadn't thought this route at all in any capacity , but it seemed like guards were kind of the flavor of flavor of the night tonight, so to speak. It was like loading up on guards load, ing up on guards and then they were talking about LeBaron Fylon from Alabama that was still on the board and ultimately went, I believe two picks later Philly. Okay , I think I think that was by way of the McCain trade . La Barra File and either way, Alabama went to two picks later on that front. I almost kind of got talked into that being like, you know , it's not the worst idea to have another guy who can operate with the ball in his hands to put Dylan Harper off of the ball on that front and create some opportunities there . But at the same time , I also did see what happened when they were void at that four five spot . It's it's tough , it's tough. But I guess this is like, this is what happens, you know outside on the back third of the draft outside of the lottery, it feels like in many respects it could kind of almost be a crabshoot in many regards . So maybe I have the expectation too high at the moment . But I don't know. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Go ahead. Sorry . Yeah, some of the, you know, some of the heavyweight guards you're talking about that winning the top ten are going to be game changers right away . Watching the coverage you saw the reference to Dylan Harper type of players . I think Dylan Harper set the bar for these guys coming in and I think some of these guys are going to match that . Now the players answer to you, Casey is if they get another guard in San Antonio not only me and Windby are gonna be upset because now you're like, my goodness like and you said put Harper off the ball yeah good luck good luck with that in opportunities , not no not es these opportunities that ain't going to happen that young man is going to have the ball there. As long as he has the spurs jersey and he plays , he needs the ball in his hand but add,ing another guard unless it's one of those top tier guys, which were already off the board . Yeah, it just it just made sense for the Spurs to see what it is this guy can bring to the basketball team. But I think you hit it on the head. I think they're really going to address it come free agency . Yeah, I'm looking just following the draft live. I'm interested , I'm wondering why Sinc from Houston still hasn't been taken because we're at twenty six currently at the moment with Denver . I mean, I have the actual broadcast turned off, so maybe I'm missing something that's on the TV. I'm not particularly sure. But all right, back to Quaintence though. Let's kind of talk about let's kind of talk about his I guess individual learning process is coming into this spot, coming into San Antonio, coming into San Antonio off of an injury . We have an idea of what it is of what kind of the prerequisites of the gig are. We know that by now , character , hustle, play defense, no need to dive into all that at that front. We know all that stuff . What is a soon to be nineteen year old old coming from a good program, blue blue blood, Kentucky, Kentucky product and Kellon Johnson, the Spurs have gotten a pretty good one on the back end of the first round there as well. Now I say it out loud . What is what is his mindset? What is his kind of attitude thought process going into this situation right now? Well, a couple things. There Diaron Fox, he's also from there, Kentucky. Of course. You know, being that of course yeah. And so, you know, being that you got a couple of guys that have played , you know, at that level, you know, that Kentucky pressure They're going to tell them all the same things. It doesn't matter, you know, how old he is. He is gonna come in here young, but be early, be on time . Do what you're supposed to do . Don't get in trouble. You know, all the spurs things that have, you know, been a whole deal . The interesting thing is and this is what I'm waiting to see is summer league and you know, usually in Summer League, you know, you're playing you know, six or seven games, five, six games depending on where you're at physically, but you're playing them and you're going to get a lot of high minutes. So they're going to want to see and show to a certain extent why they drafted you, right? So a kid like this, you know, they're going to get they're going to throw in the ball down low see what he can do, you know, some of the drives to the basket you've seen him do in college, you want to see that, but you really just want to see the fifteen to twenty rebound s out of him. And if you can go three or four games in the Summer League doing that, then now you're making the Spurge look really good about this pick because that's going to be, you know, that's going to be the thing. The first thing Devin my my youngest son asked me was, is he gonna start ? And I'm like, no, you know, I don't I don't think he's gonna start , but they are , you know, going to make him want to make him a Carter Bryant type , you know, impact right away . So as long as he can understand that , be willing to learn , know that when you're you're going to be playing against one of the greatest with the greatest players in the world , just feed off that and whatever it is that you see Wimby doing , do the opposite. And I mean that allow Wimby to play on the outside and you get down there and rebound , bumping grind down there with those bigs and Casey at the end of the day, he'll be fine. All right, just had some breaking news of sorts come across here that will very much into this conversation a little bit more because the San Antonio Spurs are not done . The San Antonio Spurs have just made a subsequent trade into the top twenty five . They have selected Terrace Reid . He's a center from Yukon six hundred eleven two sixty five . We're going to step aside , get the details on this a little bit more, but the San Antonio Spurs are not done tonight and this may also make a little bit more sense as to why they took I don't want to say particularly a flyer on someone they can be more patient with, so to speak, but I guess a little bit more insurance at the back end big San Antonio not done two picks in the first round according to Shems this just came across right now at number twenty six what it ultimately is going to be San Antonio gets or I should say they get picked twenty six, which turns into read and they send back number thirty five tomorrow and two future second round picks. All right, so well regroup coming up on the other side of the break because that kind of changes at least in my opinion the dynamic of how they view this first pick. So let's do exactly that in a little bit more coming up right here on a special NBA adraft edition of the Spur Squad show on lockdown Spurs on a night where San Antonio filling fill in the void filling the gaps with not one, but as we just learned right now , two players to get in the way in that front court . Pretty interesting stuff. Also interesting right now. The World Cup goes without saying it's a big deal. It's here and with Kauci, you can trade on every single game, every single match all the way down to the championship. If you're not familiar on Causei, you're trading against peers in a live market. That means there's no house and as the probability changes , you can buy in and buy out of your position. So give you an idea what this looks like, kind of an example here of what it is. So Switzerland, Canada earlier earlier on or that's on the schedule, of course , as we know. Switzerland trading at a forty percent rate to a forty percent mark, should say to beat Canada. So meaning a hundred dollars rate one hundred job. Let's try this again, meaning a one hundred dollars trade, it pays out almost two hundred and forty dollars if they win. So as the World Cup heats up, those numbers move in real time and you can buy in or buy out at any time on top of that. For a limited time, download the Kauci app and use code locked on to get ten dollars when you trade ten KALS HI KOSHI, trade on anything. eighteen plus only restrictions and eligibility requirements apply. Event contract trading involves risks and may not be suitable for all investors. Prices, values, and available markets may differ from those mentioned. So the San Antonio Spurs, as we mentioned, they are not done. They have made a subsequent trade trading pick thirty five tomorrow to the Denver Nuggets for pick twenty six . And that pick twenty six turns into Terrace Reed Jr. a former no, not former teammate of Stefan Castle , former player at UConn, should say, but he spent his first two years at Michigan where he averaged and I guess in the latter of the two years average nine and seven, but this past season was really kind of a breakout. fourteen points, shade under fifteen points, nine rebounds on the year six hundred and eleven to sixty is what the measurements read for Taras Reed Jr. coming over the now Yukon Husky iding again at least another option in the front court to go along with what we saw with Aquaintance . Surface level, pick twenty six, I like this a heck of a lot more than I do with Acquaintance right now. That's a good look. That's a good look. I like it . Yeah, well, I mean, we talked about the injuries. I mean, maybe it's, you know , you got two young players that are going to push each other , you're not sure Caintances going to hold up, but you know, right away you address , you know, they are addressing that four positions. So you like really both guys . But like I said, it for me it comes down to watching them, you know, when the summer league starts and you know, I got to see what they can do and how they fit in. I'll have more like once we get there . All right, good timing because our pal Matthew Ty net from the Spurs facility , the host of the title pod, checking in. Hello, very busy night, a very turn, a very eventful turn of events over the past twenty minutes, my friend, I guess you could say. Yeah , I just left the media workroom to go find a corner on the lower level and as I'm sitting here they make the trade for terrace reeds. So yeah, it's been a it's been busy but they have addressed they've not only gotten really really nice talent in that area but they've also addressed needs at the exact same time. So so far so, good . I guess it depends on if you are the type of person who is high on the high risk high reward type of stuff with a guy like Jaden Aquaintan and which I am , especially when you're talking about like if he's not the youngest player in the draft, he's one of the youngest players eighteen years old . So just and then and then with Read you're getting a guy this is a dude that got twenty eight rebounds in a single NCAA tournament game you know last month. So whether it's rebounding defense high IQ off of the short roll stuff . They've got some dudes here, some really interesting dudes. We'll see what they look like at Summer League, but well, I'm not sure Queens is even going to be there. We don't know if he's going to be ready for the regular season or not, but yeah, just a really interesting last twenty minutes or so like you said . Are you hearing any kind of rumblings or lack of a better term what the plan is right now with Quayton's playing summer league or just overall his health as a whole . We I kind of doubt it, man. Like they're uncertain of whether or not he's even going to be ready for the start of the regular season. So any, you know, prospects of playing at summer leagues seem far fetched, but I can't say that for sure at this point they were pretty vague about things in that capacity. So we're about to go in and talk with like I said, I just I just came out here and they made the trade. So I think they're going to we're going they're going to put us in contact with Paris here in a second or we're going up to we're going up to talk to Brian. So I'm gonna I'm gonna sign off here we got more people off Mike More people to more people to talk to . That's Tom Petrini, he's the worst first podcaster in the industry. Insuffable human . Yeah But anyway , good talking to y'all. We'll touch base s,orry it was so short, but no, you're what it is I was gonna say if you feel like tagging back in, if you get a moment of levity so to speak I'll check if you guys know you're alive, I will do that. Yes, sir. Marrying Tynan goes to the title pod. Good stuff, my friend. Hopefully talk you in a bit. All right. Your reaction to hearing what Tynein just said there about acquaintance. Yeah, that's that's very, very interesting. Man , that's throwing me right now because , you know, if he's ready to go or not ready to go for the regular season , you know, there's there's something there, but you know, like I said, you know at the end of the day whenever he is, you know, ready to play , the Spurs will do a great job get, you know, preparing him . But at the end of the day , Casey, there's not a whole lot of pressure on a young man like that to come in and make an immediate impact . I just think that , you know , wow, hearing all that just, you know, whatever they get out of him I just wish the best for him because, you know, it sounds like there's something is there . Yeah, that I mean we started. I'm like, oh, okay, I'm not sure about the injury. So Titan tags and what's he say? Yeah, he's not even going to play. Yeah, he's not even going to yeah, that's wow. Like okay I guess we'll I'm real interested to see what Cal says about him because on these draft nights, Cal Parry usually usually does have I don't know technically availability, but at least makes himself avail to the Lexington media out there on these draft nights. So not that I expected him to do anything but talk glowingly about his guys. I wouldn't expect that. But I'm curious as to what that kind of move is. Listen , I like the idea of them trading up a little bit . I like the idea of they four seconds, four picks overall between three yesterday and another one today today , you know , I think you had to I think you had to consolidate consolidate your assets a little bit . I don't so I don't have an issue with that. I'm curious though now with this with this read thing in the picture. I wonder how much of they looked at this situation with with their for lack of a better phrase term, their third and fourth string bigs with plumley and biz because because not to say that they were just kind of wasted roster spots , but it almost kind of felt like as the season went season went along and we got deeper into the playoffs and you're just looking at some of these spots where you're like, man, can like we get somebody off that bench after loop to potentially even just give us a different kind of presence, different kind of opportunity. And the answer was no because you didn't trust Biz. You didn't trust Plumley to do that. It felt like there were more so just veterans who were there for the ride as opposed to actual players, impactful players . I'm sure that they probably saw that going to this front and they saw the back too and it's like, yeah, all right, maybe we like the idea of maybe we like the idea of having one of these veterans for the vibes helped things out, but I'm not particularly sure . I think like to think that probably played a little bit of a aspect in their decision making. Yeah, you know, sometimes you don't have to watch your words with me. Sometimes , you know, as veteran players, we can be a little much. We can be a little you know high demanding . And so, you know, yeah, like you said, when he when he came to Biz and Macy and you know, who knows? You know, I'm not there in the locker room, but maybe there was some things said that were on point at times and you know, off point at other times, but you know, the Spurs definitely with, you know, with these two guys, you know, have gotten younger, you know, way younger than what they've had. So it's all about at the end of the day it',s all about having that competitive locker room and with these two picks, they've definitely accomplished that. I want to pick your brain about especially coming from a blue Boodl program Where do you stand on in this age that we live in with players being one and done spending what feels like twenty minutes at their university and then they move on and they're a top, you know, they're a top ten pick in the draft . The thing with Terrace Reid is he is a four year player to at Michigan to at Yukon , twenty two years old . Where do you usually stand on those type of guys ? You know, the more college experience that you can play, especially at a high level like Michigan and Yukon do it better prepares you mainly for the stuff that goes on off the court with the NBA because really , you know, there's a handful of college teams , you know , they they pretty much travel like NBA teams . So you're not there's not a whole lot of shock there . But it's just , you know, the whole thing about the NBA is any given night , somebody can give you thirty . Somebody on that roster can give you thirty . And you know, preparing for things like that. I think some of the players that go to schools like that, Kansas , Kentucky, Yukon , Duke, North Carolina, it's so on. It's so on . I don't know. I think they, you know , they were players like that I always wanted to play against, right ? Because it seems like they would hide behind that jersey and I'm like, you know, you get in certain situations where there's summer league regular season, whatever . And I'm like, no, you can't hide behind that. I don't I don't care if I went to UTSA or whatever. You're not going to hide behind that jersey. So I always look forward to playing against players like that, but you know, for them, I think it's a shock whened you know, you have, this undrafted guy that's out there just giving you buckets I was gonna say it sounds like you're speaking from experience . Oh yeah. Casey Jacobson. Y'all remember that guy? Casey Jacobson went to Stanford Stanford yeah. Oh man, I love playing games. He was playing with Phoenix and he'd come out there playing with his hair this and that I'm like, I don't know what you're doing right now, but you're about to get it. It was a shooter. If I'm not mistaken, right? Yeah, it was not against you of course. Not against you, but it was a shooter against . I mean, you're going from Garden Kobe one night to Garden Oh my goodness. In case you guys are curious about the how the rest of the draft top ten looked Devan to Washington, Darren Peterson to Utah one and two camer on Boozer, the son of a former teammate of yours, Carlos Boozer. I actually want to ask you about that in a second. Caleb Wilson, North Carolina, going to the Bulls, Keaton Waggler , Illinois, of course, going to the Clippers. That was the visa Zub ach pick. Michael Brown Louisville goes to the Brooklyn Nets at six. Darry Cup Jr. That's a real good pick going to Sacramento at seven. San Antonio Zone Kingston Fleming's. Let's go . He is an Atlanta Hawk Mor,ris Johnson, Morris Johnson is in Michigan, of course, with Coach May over there taking the job the other day with the Mavericks and Braden Burrys is going to be tasked with being one of the faces of the Milwaukee Books. Yeah, real quick before we move on. I just wanted to get your thoughts when you see a former teammate's kid get drafted in the top three like, it the' csase with the camera boozer . Yeah, well, I mean, obviously they were very little when we were playing in Utah, but you know , man, you know, they didn't they they were still in LA when Carlos was, you know, with us in Utah . So, you know, but seeing that man, you just you just sit back and you're like, oh my goodness, that's one thing you can't stop is that time, but. But you know, congratulations to him. Carlos is a heck of a dad . He was a heck of a teammate, heck of a player. And you know, for him to to , you know, I'm not has the other one got drafted yet. I'm pretty sure they're, well he went back . The other one went back the other one went back and stayed at yeah, Kate in the point guard. He stayed at you at you okay but seeing yeah seeing them get drafted that's that's that's amazing man, because you know, I know, you know, when it comes to us as the fathers, we put in a lot of work, kind of laid the foundation down and to see things like that. It's it's amazing . Good stuff. All right. Before we move on or I should say as we move on, want to pivot a little bit, not a lot, but we want to talk about that Yanasanta Kumpo deal that came about yesterday . And if there is a residual impact that it might have on the San Antonio Spurs . I will explain a little bit more coming up on the other side of the break right here on the Spurs squad show on locked on Spurs . But before we get to that and examining really one of the biggest trades in, I guess in NBA history, when you think about it, let's have a conversation about our friends over there at Five Hour Energy. Certain flavors, as we know , kind of reinorvigate that nostalgia you got about summer with those classic red, white and blue freezer pops right at the top of the list. New five hour energy. They're bringing that flavor combination back. It's called the Firework Freeze five Hour Energy Shot. It blends all that the sweet cherry, the zesty lime, electric blue raspberry all into one refreshing shot inspired by those iconic summer freezer spots. Listen , you know, it's summertim e. We're in mid June. This is when the schedules get fast. You got the road trips, you're taking the kids to camps, the concerts long weekends, whatever. You know the deal. And you just need kind of that little something to get you over the hump to make the difference about a five hour energy. Of course, always sugar free as well. Ignite your taste buds with the flavor of the summer, get a five hour or firework five hour energy freeze, a firework freeze with five hour energy, of course , check on check on out head on over to five hour energy. com for more information to get your hands on one today . With the all new Audi Q three, the answ er's always yes . Yes to adventure, yes to escape , yes to write now . The all new Audi Q three made for the Yes Life All right, Jaden Aquaintance, the power forward center from Kentucky, the pick at number twenty, Tar Reedr Jisr. the Spurge Trading into the first round at pick number twenty six swapping with Denver trading thirty five, pick thirty five tomorrow they had in a couple of seconds to get the center from Ukon. Want to change the convers ation a little bit to the Yanasanta de Cumpo thing and a residual impact that it might have on the San Antonio Spurs and how they pursue the rest of the summer you guys at home as you know by now or if you don't, Yana Scott delt yesterday to the Miami Heat getting the better of the heat do of the Boston Celtics, the narrative had been surround Jaylene Brown and the conversation of does he want in and out? Does he want in Boston? Does Boston want him? Is Boston going to make him a focal point of the Yanasat Caucko trade . They did. It didn't work out. And now we're left with a disgruntled superstar wearing green up there coming off of an all NBA season . There's two moves yesterday, subsequent moves that in my mind could at least prompt a little bit of conversation with the Spurs and wanted to get your thoughts on the subject while it was still a little bit relevant . The other one being Julius Randall, because Minnesota was thought to be was thought to be a candidate, so to speak. And after that part went through, they dumped Randall to the Brooklyn Nets to create some money . But we'll start with the Jaylin Brown thing . Is that the type of deal knowing what it would take that the Spurs should consider ? Well, at the end of the day , you know, when you think about throwing a ball to somebody that's improving score that can go get you buckets, then yeah, all right. Go back to the Nick series and some of those possessions when if you have a J aylin Brown , it's completely, you know, different especially when Wimby's off the floor . So yeah, you have to look at things like that you know at the same time when you talk about this and this I wanted to say this because it's very interesting to me that he's going to Miami now . Now with the family guy that he is and everything that surrounds Miami , I think you know and I know that Yanus is going to be, you know, focused enough to try and get Miami back in contention. Now when he sits down with Pat Riley and Coach Spoe , there's going to be some things that they put on his plate that he hasn't seen before. And I'm not talking about okay, you're averaging twenty. Let's go get thirty and I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about Miami does a great job in the two people that I just mentioned , Pat Riley, Eric's Boaster , they're going to have Yannis despite everything that he's done. Look at the game a little bit different . So I expect to see a different type of who's seen Yanis at his best drive into the basket, he added the three package. He's a mid range, gets to the free throw line , but the way Miami is going to sit him down and have him study the game and study some of the moves he has , I think that that's a really good match for both sides . I am kind of at the spot when it comes to on the Spurs lens of things of getting involved with the Jaylin Brown aspect of it . I think I think right now we're looking when you look at the dynamic of the Spurs being a real heavy home run hitter here and trying to do something maybe outside of the norm , I look you and I were both kind of of the thought process all the way back in and this goes to show you why we're not GMs and they are in the middle of Harper's struggles, we're like, I'm okay dealing one Har ofper Castle to get you honest, right ? Good thing good thing they don't let us work the phones, right? Casey would have been doing this squad show mid second round. I know, I know. Now, but the point that I'm getting at is that do the spurs revisit that type of ide a for Jaylene Brown and is there a path to them doing it without giving up either of the two ? And I'm not particularly sure there is of the Fox contract. Yeah , yeah, I yeah, I see where you're going with that. You know, the whole thing is , yeah, you yes , yes. If you want at the end of the day, if you want women to be happy, something like that would be huge . But man, pulling the trigger on that, Casey . You know, I don't know because yeah, there will be a large contract on its way out of here , but man, I just don't know because right now, you know, if you're Jaylene Brown's camp, you know, we like to talk about players' camps. Right now you're you're listening because you just had my client involved in this Yonest deal . So I'm not happy with having to relay this to Jaylin or maybe you know Jaylen knew about it. I have to go back to him and answer to him. So right now is the time to get in there and talk to Boston because his name did come up and it's been floated around. So yeah, if you're the Spurs or somebody else that, you know , admires him as a basketball player, which he is a really good basketball player. Now is the time to jump in there and see what you can do at Boston. Yeah, absolutely . I don't I just look at the pathway and these are some of the numbers if theur Ssp are in a world where they don't and anything is anything's possible , where they can do this, where they don't give up Castle and Harper , you assume it'd be Visal on the way out. So Brown's set to make fifty seven million dollars this year. Fox is at forty nine and change. Brown has three years left on the deal. He's making over sixty on the back end when it expires after twenty seven, twenty eight Fox is at forty nine five for this year one . And so if you're thinking the immediate fox in the sell route, you're looking at something where on the other side you get back brown , Hauser and Sh ireman type type of deal like that. But the thing is I don't know on the Boston side of things if you would even want the fox, if you would even want the Fox part of it. I'm not particular ly sure because are you better suited for a type situation where if you're on the if you're on the Boston side of things and you get something that looks like Visal , Keldin , Carter Bryant and Capital , which pretty much evens out the money. Of course, there's always a third team that could get involved, type. All right, right I'm just operating under the pretense that it's just one team for another . That almost feels like a more realistic pathway to get this thing done because because you know, you know, we've been critical of Fox, but Fox is , I mean, yeah, we've been we've been critical but he's certainly not a lost cause as it sometimes feels like on the show He's certainly not. I understand we do do that at times . But I think on the Boston side of things, that almost feels like a better route sell, Keldin, Carter Bryant and then load up on capital d,raft capital to the Spurs have what feels like an infinite amount because then on the other side on the Boston side, there's talks that they could shop Derek White too . So you attach that money or you attach that picks, those picks onto that money and then get somebody else and you're looking at a pretty good pretty good rotation right there if that's the move. Just a thought I'm just looking at the numbers right here that might be the pathway to getting it done. And you're saying Dear's not involved you did one way when Fox is involved and Fox is not involved, correct? Yeah. The way this other way I did it is Fox Not involved, Castle not involved involved, Harper not involved . It would be Keldin Vassel , Carter Bryant and you're looking at a spot where you might have to include Champagne y to at a sign and trade . So probably one of Carter Bryan or Champenney at a sign and trade because the team option right now is only three million dollars . Gotcha . Got now if I'm Boston I mean you're you're you're leaving me I appreciate the players you mentioned but they need a point guard . need They and I mean I don't even know young fellas name number eleven. I can't think of his name right now Richard . You're pretty much putting you putting your whole stock into things right and run a whole season out . Right. Exactly. And he 's he plays very, very well, but man if you know, if I can get the Aaron Fox from you guys, now I have someone now I have someone where Pritcher can still stay in that role of being there for me at the fourth quarter, but I'm not putting all that on him. Like to have your team led by him well now his role changes. Now when you would throw up twenty five, that was a blessing. No, we actually need you to do that. So I don't I don't know if I don't I'm not sure there. Well, well, the thing with Fox is that and that could happen. I mean, they could covet Fox, right? They could for that point guard. I'm just assuming that two hundred twenty nine million dollars over five years is not something that they want to be married to. They might like the player, but in many respects, when you see Trey , what Trey Jon get the other day, two hundred and twenty over four? Right . It's in many respects, you see that and then you see the Fox deal. And I guess it's kind of like, well , pay for what you get, right ? Yeah , if that's yeah, like if that's what that's going to cost yeah good not great point card at two hundred thirty million dollars that's what it costs right that's what it costs. So but yeah now I just I and and like I said don't get me wrong Prichard is good I just don't know like and I don't know. I'm not I'm not in Boston but I just don't see him like man starting like now it's on you to, you know, carry this team because the other guys you mentioned would be outstanding for them in the way they play Kelden. They would love him in Boston. Vaselle, are you kidding me ? Like all the other players are great. I just that the point guard situation kind of scares me . Yeah . And I think that's probably where it would unless they have that that instilled confidence in Pritchard never know. I mean Brad Stevens always seems to find a way to work in and out of trouble with these spots That's for sure. Casey that man that man is good . I'll be were you surprised to see Milwaukee take the heat deal over Jaylen Brown ? Um No, I mean , anybody that's been in Miami, I mean that's how I said . Love Boston. I have a problem in Boston. Love clam chowder. Love it, but Miami's a different animal, Casey. Yeah, I guess when Yanis pretty much holds the cards there's yeah yeah yeah now that I say that but just talking about all these trade scenarios like the more I write this out doesn.' Itt feel more and more that the Spurs like this is kind of the group that I don't want to say they're stuck with, but this is that they're going to have to be content with even if they wanted to do something . Right . You have to have a suitor. You have to have a suitor. You have to have a suitor. And that's that's what at the end of the day, that's the problem because if they mention one name, we all know what that is. We mentioned one name of that cont ract , they probably gonna get the phone hung up. We're not starting there. Yeah . I look at like Visal though and I wonder what Visal can get you . And I wonder if there's an effort now for them to revisit something like that with Fisel to potentially get that small ball for five a more established one because he has he makes twenty seven million dollars a year. He's got three years left on his deal, including next year. He'll be extension eligible That's a very valuable player on a very valuable contract who just had a heck of a playoff. Who just had an incredible playoff dialed and first time his first time first time that answ ered a ton of questions in a series in in a two month span where we're having these conversations . Is there anybody who can play defense on this team and Garda Guarda, you know , elite point guard not named Stefan Castle. This dude just comes out and answers every question . Yep , yep. That might think about it, like the playoff teams that are borderline , like where they've been good like a warriors Memphis , teams like that should be knocking the spurs door down to try and get a guy like that because right away you've gotten a lot better . It feels like the no brainer that's out there depending on how content or not Denver is with their group is Aaron Gordon . Like that feels like that feels like the immediate no brainer on both certainly on the SPR side of things that if they can get that, of course , health is always a thing with Gordon, but as the Spurs have also learned in time, Gordon's healthy, that's a very, very good player . But I think right now, I mean, Devin Basel realistically is probably their best trade asset . Realistic. Would you agree with that? Yeah, yeah. Unless, you know, like I said, we said I it last show , you know, if you and they do. They probably they love Harper, they love what he brings, things like that. If you were to go out on a limb and dangle that name . Well, now you're talking about heavyweight type trades and things like that, but they won't do they won't go that route, but to your point, yeah, Visal would be interesting. It'll be interesting . The draft already was interesting. We're at Judy's. We haven't we haven't even hit free agency yet. Just imagine what that's going to look like. All right . So the Spurs entered with three second round picks . We know for sure that pick thirty five that they had tomorrow is going to Denver. Can't confirm yet, at least on our end on our side what the deal is with the ladder two . So we'll operate under the assumption until we know they don't have them that they do have them. Before we get out of here, want to have a conversation what the SPRs can do in this day two of the draft, what they're looking for to m aximize these second round picks and to a certain extent undrafted players who can turn in a really good career. You're looking at one to my stage right over here. Nobody better to ask that question . Got that for you before we get up on out of here on the Spurs squad show on locked on Spurs, but one more conversation about another one of our fine friends who helps in driving this program and since we're talking about a whole bunch of these new guys coming into the league, getting new gigs, getting new jobs. It's a pretty good segue to indeed sponsor jobs who's well, they really , they just want to help you get that listing that you've had up there for weeks, months. They just want to get it filled and sometimes you're forget ting about the simple stuff, skills experience, even location. As you know, one great addition can really have a ripple effect on everybody around them. So when you find someone who brings the right skills, the attitude , experience. It makes the entire group a heck of a lot better, just like basketball, just like the Spurs, just like the winning teams that know how to do it. That's why finding qualified candidates they matter so much and why tools like indeed sponsored jobs can help make that process a heck of a lot easier. So spend less time searching and more time interviewing the candidates, the ones that actually matter, the ones that actually check all the boxes. When you do that, of course, it gets rid of all the chaos that you're been going through again for all those weeks, all those months. Right now, listeners, viewer of the shows, viewers of the show going to get a seventy five dollars sponsor job credit to bump that listing up to a premium status, of course, the one it deserves, you're going to indeed dot com slash podcast. With the All New Audi Q three , the answer's always yes , yes to adventure, yes to escape , yes to write now , the all new Audi Q three made for the Yes Life . All right, so at the moment, two second round picks in the back end of the second r ound for the San Antonio Spurs on deck for tomorrow . I want to ask you we get out of here, generally in these type of spots , what are those conversations like in the Spurs locker room before they get inside or before they leave those four walls and they get up there to the podium and they're trying to find that diamond in the rough on that day two. Well now is day two back in, you know, you know what I mean? It was before the draft was two days . Yeah, yeah. So you know, one of those deals where , you know, you you pretty much on your in the war room, you pretty much have , you know, your top eight guys we all know who they are . And then from there , you know, you start , you know , really picking apart the rest of your roster. So when it comes to the second round and not to mention Casey the success that the Spurs have had with second round picks , you know, you 're you're trying to find those guys that are just ballers competitive , you know, come in there and you know, you want to have those conversations where you're like, hey, so and so John Doe, whatever is really pushing Dylan Harper Castle. I've seen these guys battle and practice, things like that . And you know, we all knew , you know, back before Harper got here that, you know, when they did go after another guard in Harper that you wanted that lock room to get competitive again and it did and it led to a finals appearance and so you know with these draft picks you're just trying to find these these couple diamonds in the rough where they can come in and they're just mad at the world type players should have been a first round should have been this, should have been that . Well now we're going to give you the platform when you put that Spurs jersey on and you do go to Summer League I don't know about the big fellow, but when you do go to Summer League, play your heart out . All right, we got time and back one more time of course at the Spurs facility , the host of the title pot, Matthew Tina. Go ahead, Devon, go ahead. Well, this is the second time I've been to Summer League, so please give me give me something good. Yeah, I wish I wish that I could , but when I said that I needed to go, it's just been hurry up and wait. I don't know if y'all can hear me, but we haven't even had a chance to go in yet. So I am just here at the very end of the show to let you know that no further progress has been made since since we last got Copnel right now it looks like in the right now what they're doing is kind of I'm going to drop you real quick because the audio's acting up . I'm going to drop you real quick, but yes, we about now, what about now? I think we're good. I think we're good . Okay, good. Yeah. Good . All right. So yeah, so right now they're tying up loose ends. They're making sure the deal is gone through an official with Terrorist Reed before we are able to talk to Brian. They want to be able to speak with us about an actual move that happened rather than something hypothetical or like you know, technically they can't even talk about them. So that's where we're waiting on . So we'll be talking to them shortly , but yeah, that is the update from here and we're just sitting around waiting until then. Sounds like a classic classic draft night with Spurs . Yeah, you know, it's it's never as glamorous as the people want you to think . It's never as glamorous as the people want you to think. All right, both of you guys, Stevin, you go first, your general thoughts, consensus feel , well, I guess it can't be consensus, but your general feel this night one ? Yeah, night one was good you got two guys, you addressed a couple of issues there all in, you know, one night and you just kind of go from there with Matt giving us the, you know, the intel on big Q not you know, he's not going to be ready for a while but the other, guy be ready will to go . And let's just see, you know, how Summer League goes for one and and will Matt, if you see Will around there tell him he's going to have to work because seems like Q ue goingue to is go through a couple iss ofues before he steps on the court. Oh yeah, you know, you know, will he's always going to be ready to work. Oh yeah, I think that it was I think it was a good night in terms of you take the high risk high reward, you take the upside, you take the swing at talent , but right after you do that you trade up using one of your many picks and you go get a guy who's ready to play right now, who's got experience at the college level. He isn't a teenager. He's a guy that's been around for a few years. So I think you did a good job of not only getting depth and taking the high upside swing, but you bring in a guy who you think could probably be ready to at least contribute to a certain level pretty close to right away. So I think they did a good job covering both bases there. If that makes sense to y'all, I just think that considering that they have still plenty of room to grow from the perspective of they can still go get some work done in free agency on the trade market if they needed to. But in the meantime, they pick up another couple of young players at positions of need . And yeah, I think so far twenty twenty six draft has been okay for the Spurs. Like again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. If you're up for the for the high risk, high reward swings like acquaintance is going to be , then this is the kind of night for you. If you are the person who wants fit, wants someone who's ready to go right now , then Reads your guy. Best of both worlds, right
