Lots of wholesome family time, no stress. Cut to three days later and it's just constant. Mummy can I have an ice cream, Daddy can have some money, Mummy, can I buy this? And James and I are just looking at each other like how have we already spent a small fortune For children, it honestly feels like we're on a never ending loop of tiny financial requests And you don't want to say no all the time, but you also don't want them thinking money just magically appears every time they ask That's why we've loved using Go Henry becausecause it's helped us turn those moments into something a bit more meaningful Go Henry is an app and debit card for kids that teaches them how to save, invest, earn and spend, but in a really hands on way So now instead of just handing over money, James will say, All right, then, what job are you going to do for it? And certainenly, there's a lot more enthusiasm for helping out around the house And I've noticed such a difference They actually stop and think now. The other day, Kit said, I might save up for it instead And I just looked at James like, Did you hear that? That's growth. It's not just about the money really, it's about them understanding choices, learning a bit of independence and feeling proud of what they've earned And for us, It just takes away that constant back and forth and makes things feel a bit calmer So this summer, you can grow their skills and their money at gohenry. com With one month free to get started Go, Henry But kids go to learn and grow money Terms and conditions apply. The Go Henry card issued by IDT Financial Services Limited, a principal member of Visa Europe. Welcome to another new episode of Extra Lash with Helen and Heathcliff. Hello Hello. Right, we are jumping straight in with our messages because I have got another one which is fifty thingsings to do before you turn fifty. I'm loving getting all of these. Thank you so much for sending them in because fifty is a lot of things to find to do, isn't it? Yes is what I said Yeah, it's a lot. So hi Joanna and James. I love listening to you guys on my dog walks. You really make me realise I'm so happy my kids are now older.. My time is now mine to concentrate on me. When I turned fifty a few years ago, I wanted to do the same as you I decided to try and face some of my fears, which there are quite a few and incorporate that into my list Wow, I overcame my fear of heights and did a zip wire in Mexico. Wow Wow ed over the O two in London Best thing I did was a firewalk. Oh my God, you are amazing and raised money for a local charity at the same time These are just a few things that I can highly recommend you add to your list. loveove to you all and good luck from Jackie in Surrey Thank you, Jackie so much and my God, I take my hat off to you. That is amazing. I love that. So a firewall. firewall. Walking over hsal over fire I once saw someone doing a fire walk on TV and they to say over and over again that's in a sort of chum Cool wet grass. Cool wet grass. Cool wet. I imagine that's what it was. And then they walked over these barefoot over these hot coals. Yeah. But they were just going Cool work gross, cool work gross,! wouldould you do that? Well, I tell you what What a brilliant thing to do. I don't know if I'd even feel the hot coals because I've got such dry skin on my heel and my big toe at the moment from walking around barefoot at all the time that I think that my feet are like hooves at the moment and they've not had an airing because I mean it's still I've only just started dabbling into sandals because it's still quite cold So I mean these old husks on the bottom of my feet Yeah, get all the dead skin off. Wow. like those fish when you used to have you used to go to those bars and you had to fish, you put your feet in a. that's illegal now I think, is it? Yeah. Do n all your fate, didnn't it? It was a big thing for a while, that. You don't see it anymore, do you? That was a real thing. I think, I don't know if it is illegal now, but I think it was I think it was supposed to be, you know, awful for the fish I don't know now, right? And secondly, I think it was supposed to be not very hygienic that you know, there could be dry skin or things you know in there because then somebody else puts their feet in the same fish are like theres and stuff. I don't know. I don't know. You got cut on your foot Hey, I'm just thinking, you know, you know't let you go peopleople who do like pizza oven And they do stone baked pizzas and stuff and they have a van or food truck or something they take it around What if you had a hot cold truck? And you could just people, you'd do it like for ople would wantce have a go, wouldn't they If you went up to like a fair or something and then you got the old cold zone, it'd have to be a side effair. Right right. they were a bit drowned. Ten pound ag go. No, it's a health and safety nightmare, isn't it? Oh my god, it probably would be. It would be. I wouldn't want to go to any festivals or anything that you were organizing. I've seen these people that do like pop up saunas and pop up ice baths. The ice baths are a big thing now, aren't they And S' down at the golf club down the road. There's one in there. the secret there's like like a horse box and like a shepherd's hus. it's all that mobile and they've gone in there and they've set it all up And it's like a mobile spa thing Iice baths There's a there's a there's a sauna thing that you can go into In a horsebx Yeah, like a converted Cool. It looks really cool You could have like hot coals And and straight into the ice bath. Oh Godd, I don't think yeah. I think all go wrong, can it? I think hot coals would like I don't think I could do hot coals. I think that would be pushing me over the edge too much. I don't think I could do. I think that' that is well, we found something there that I would be scared to do because everything else is like a challenge so far, but stuff that I would be able to like physically go right. Okaykay, but that actually is a real fear. That and then also being hypnotised to conquer my fear of spiders. That would be quite good. Yeah, you're really scared as b Yeah In fact, if you went on I'm a celebrity You would be very scared of spiders. Well, yes, but mind you and they don't mess about, they give you like massive spiders on something like that're going but if you're going to go on something like that, I think even if you weren't scared of spiders, I think the spiders are so big there orr the ones they'd put you near are so big there that even you would be like, oh my gosh. Oh yeah The tarantula.. You ever seen a real tarantula? Yes It's frightening isn' it? You know, I did that show with Derm O'Leeran and it was the pet show. Oh my gos. You remember episode? Oh yeah. There was a little girl. she was incredible. She came on, she was only small, maybe about nine. She had about eighty six creepy crawlies in her bedroom in lots of different cages I think all over her bedroom And she brought in a tarantula that was called Saron or something or Red or something like that And she was female. And they put the tarantula on the desk and Dermot and I were just standing, you know, just next to it. and I swear to God it locked eyes with me because it slowly just started he was on the other side. It slowly started walking straight towards me Oh my go God, I tell you what, I just went ice cold and I stayed roouted and then I slowly started walking backwards. And then D picked it up and he put it on his hand. and oh go and he said it was all just very, very slow and very light like a feather was sort of touching you And she was just just very gentle and she was lovely. I didn't I couldn't toold her. and then for the whole of the day of're filming, right? I was so jumpy. anyytime somebody came and stood next to me or I was like that looking around just thinking that somebody was going to be standing next to me with the spider. When have you seen a tarantula U in a zoo and I've been to different you see them, know you when you go to a different h. Have you ever seen one? like I've never held one? Have you seen one like there up close? I've seen someone yeah, I think I think I saw somebody holding one in front of as they were like doing a demonstration? Oh yeah long time ago. taking the kids to things as well and they've got big millipedes and all of that and stuff. Yeah yeah yeah Would you be able to hold a tarantula what I was just thinking as you were talking, I was thinking because they're so big and furry,'s more you'd be better to think of it more like a mouse or a cat or think of it as an animal rather than a spider because they are so big, aren't they that you could sort of maybe you could sort of trick your brain into going, o, that's That's just an animal. because if you were holding a little mouse, she wouldn't You know No, you I do that.. I heard someone who was hypnotized say that they were told to sort of focus in their mind and imagine it was a really big bee that's good The feeling of the fur and the bristles and the hair on a bee because a bee is like really furry is sort of the same sort of feeling as that of a tarantula. But then also I would try and imagine it as a very small little kitten Tiny kitten. Yeah Oh God But yeah, wow Jackie, I might take on board your thing of hot coVid. That's a really good idea. Be I haven't got anything in my list yet, which are things which are my fears Hot coals and maybe Tackling the whole spider problem. Hot coals a big good one't it? Oh my Godd, imagine If you can do it, can you do it without burning your feet Well, you must be able to. there's some way that a technique. Yeahah there's a technique, there's some way of doing it Well, I tell you what, you just get the fire, you know we'll get the fire going in because it's so flipping cold at the moment. and then you get a few coals out yourself, lay them on the front path. No nothing el'ses the way to do it. There's a must be a proper proper way to do it, not like M get one of those they of those disposable barbecues. Yes. Get a few of them lined up. no because You can't you shouldn't even talk about that. Make me three Be if someone does it and then they burn their fet, you get sued. Make me three French martinis And then clean out our fire put the coals on the front path. And I'll go straight over him You love to film me on the phone and that will be one of the things that I've ticked off. Joe's got two disposable barbecues for shoes. She's just walking with them Well, I like that Jackie. and my go, good on you, that is very good. Wow ip why you're in Mexico. Talking about that, right? because in my head, I'm very much like thinking, okay, I'm going to go on on a solar journey to Mexico Because we had a bit of a shock the other day, didn't? Because I'm obviously on my o I'm coming up to fifty, I'm starting about solo travelling Which basically is going to be me like going to a spa for a weekend or something on my own just to have a rest from everybody. But I have been thinking about going to Malta and that is where I'm thinking about going on my own for sort of reclaiming myself and me being able to like, well just do stuff on my own and go right, come on, let's go and do some journeying on your own Well, the other day, our friend Jes that we've talked about quite a lot on the with the van with the blue van Yeah, he'd been listening to an episode where I'd been talking about the joys of Malta and tralling there and how I went there on a job and you know And he'd just been listening to that. and then he met up with one of his mates also called James, who said that he'd been off tralling on his own to Malta, the other way. that's weird't it? Yes And then James was a bit like, Ohh my go. What's happen in Malta? Joe's been going, Joe's been going to Malta. this other James has been going to Malta. A they been going together to Malta? Is there something that James needs? We all need to go to Malta. S what's going on The shit's going down in Malta The fifty year olds are in Malta It's all happening. They're all dashed up as the knight's templar and wandering around doing some sort of weird They're all walking over hot coals in Malta Right, let's have our very first voice note Hi Joan James, Re enjoying your podcast, justust listening to your adventures about your ten K running My husband used to be a marathon runner and I really envied him and I wanted to take up running. So when I was thirty seven I did couched a five K NHS app And I was literally not even gone from couch. I was the couch. I was an absolute slug. But I did the programm and it really, really works. a mixture of run, walk and it gets you fit, started going to park runs, then did a ten K, then did a half marathon, then did the London marathon, thought I've had enough of marathons, I'll just stick to races got faster, got fitter, and then I decided to do Manchester Marathon when I was over forty and did it in a good time, qualified for good for age And then, um I did a couple more marathons and then my husband was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. so I bought him a sports wheelchair just like the one Rob Borough used at Leed's Marathon and pushed him at London Marathon last year with my friends. And then last week we just pushed him at the Rob Borough Leeds Marathon. It was an amazing day and we did the whole marathon pushing him in the wheelchair and u The reward for all your training is just that's what it comes to. You don't need to be strong, you don't need to be fast, you just need to be really determined and you can do it. But please do your couatch to five K because I've done eleven marathons now and there's no stop for me. I'm going to sign up for another one soon. Take care. Oh my gos. Thank you for your voice nes. That's incredible I mean, my Godd, you are incredible and that's really, really inspiring as well. I'm gonna to get that up And I'm going to start and I'm going to do that. And it's really good to know you saying that you don't have to be strong and you don't have to it is, you know, mentally as well, isn't it? It's about just not giving up and just keeping there and just going for it. I didn't know there was an NHS app for that, couch to ten K. Yeah, because I've heard of lots of different ones which are like training whatever. I't know there was an NHS, you know, couch to yeah, Cch to five K. she start five ye Yeah. That's what I'm I'm going to get it then and that's what I'm going to start doing. because That's what' scary isn't it? It's how am I going to go from zero to five K? And you know, I don't go to the gym. How do you know how to start training? Is it just like, oh I'm just going to get up and out of the front door? But I think on those apps as well, they g you up so much and they sort of give you notifications so that even if you are sitting there if they're going right, comeome on, it's time to go now and you're going go out at I think that might boost me up a bit to go, right, come on, let's go out. And if they're doing it slowly and not going from like noughtght to I walked a blin in five K in the first go that you go and train and then you don't do anything afterwards, I mean you know, that'd be brilliant. Do you know what Graham Alexander says, my guru iss the manager of Bradford City G it in, right I was a brilliant professional footballer He says just Turn up. Oh yeah which is a really good thing to think about in it. It's like you go, all do I want to train today? Do I want No? Just put your trainers on Right, Just make that first step and then it'll take care of itself. Don't think about, don't project into light. Allright you know, anything more than that. It's literally just like he says to the to his team turn up for training When he's supposed to turn up on time at the right time Just turn up And then everything takes care of itself. Do you think it does though? I mean, if I turn up Like justust turn up because it's more than if if you procrastinate and you're just like, maybe I'll leave it today Yeah. If you turn up, you're doing a lot more than you would have done 'causeuse you that I wasied. I was looking at a video the other day that Ronaldo You know, like Ronaldo Cristiana, Ronaldo, I feel like I need to say was talking. And somebody was interviewing him and he was saying no, I don't feel like doing it every day. I don't feel like going to the gym every day. There are times when I'm tired and times where I don't, but I force myself to go with her every day. I turn up, I go and I do it. And he was like, no, it's not easy. However fit you are It's not always easy because there are times when you wake up and you feel grumpy or you're tired or you just don't want to do it. and you said, but I just know, I always just make sure that I go there. Okay, rightight. I'm going to think of. Just turn up. I mean, I'm thinking now about the LIO and just, you know, go and do a bit of swimming and stuff just to start getting fit. Just turn up. But if I just turn up to the LidO, I know I'll sit there with a copy of like, you know, homes and gardens and have a coffee and a bit of breakfast. They not necessarily get into the pool We do start doing it together I think yeah, the Lido iss a bit far away though isn't it? You want a pool that's nearby at the school's pool do parent sessions.o is it? parent sessions. But in the Lido, you can have a coffee and you can have some food and read your magazine and then they've also got a little saun in. They' been this a whole day is gone on't it That's what it needs to be something you can do quickly. When is it now for some a Tuesday ored? Tuesday and a Thursday or something I thought it was a Wednesday. Is it? I'll find out. Shall we do the drop off, right? Do the drop off. Shall we do the drop off on a whatever day it is and we go and we do it together with our swimming kit and then we go Straight in, get in the pool and then we do about like however many lengths. straight off. Yeah, definitely Drop them off straight in Book it out in your diary. Yeah So you've got to do it And then you've done it and then you' back in the canon and you get home, it's just like you. got home a bit later. Shall we go and do that together? and then shall we start going and doing some runs together during the day? Do you know else to do? Well, on a Monday they do parent and child run On a Monday morning really early. They do. yeah, they do. They do at school But who's running with who? You're running with your own children? Yeah They get up really early and they do it before the d. I mean, I heard about it and I was like, well, there's no way that's happen. Well isn't friendriends doing it. That of the. I think she organizing it, I think. And I was like, well I've got four kids on Monday morning We're lucky if we get there on time. We can't do that on a Monday morning. Never mind, but, you know, I think that When your kids are a bit older or something. I't that's pushing it too far, Good God a Monday morning Monday' is a bit hardcore. Monday's too painful Let's just stick. See look, this is what we do. This is what I do I go from naught.ust do something. I go from naught to five K justust like just so soon So so I said that I don't want to do anything don't think the moment now we've gone from you getting the NHS app, right, which is like, okay, I'm going to go with it to now suddenly I'm now in the school and I'm swimming. You've now suggressed on a Monday, we're going to start running with the family. It's like it's all too much I am just going to concentrate on getting that app and doing nght to five K. That's it. That's my lot. That's what I'm doing and you can join in or not could all do it together, can we Everyone, everyone Well, we won't be able to doush because what about se Bush run I run. But what about Bow and every she's not gonna be able to C all try together. You can put her on your back Right.
