Lots of wholesome family time, no stress. Cut to three days later and it's just constant. Mummy can I have an ice cream, Daddy can have some money, Mummy, can I buy this? And James and I are just looking at each other like how have we already spent a small fortune For children, it honestly feels like we're on a never ending loop of tiny financial requests And you don't want to say no all the time, but you also don't want them thinking money just magically appears every time they ask That's why we've loved using Go Henry becausecause it's helped us turn those moments into something a bit more meaningful Go Henry is an app and debit card for kids that teaches them how to save, invest, earn and spend, but in a really hands on way So now instead of just handing over money, James will say, All right, then, what job are you going to do for it? And certainenly, there's a lot more enthusiasm for helping out around the house And I've noticed such a difference They actually stop and think now. The other day, Kit said, I might save up for it instead And I just looked at James like, Did you hear that? That's growth. It's not just about the money really, it's about them understanding choices, learning a bit of independence and feeling proud of what they've earned And for us, It just takes away that constant back and forth and makes things feel a bit calmer So this summer, you can grow their skills and their money at gohenry. com With one month free to get started Go, Henry But kids go to learn and grow money Terms and conditions apply The Go Henry card issued by IDT Financial Services Limited, a principal member of Visa Europe Hello and welcome to another new episode of Extra Lash with Helenandne Heeathcliff. Right, let's just jump straight into our messages. I haveve got a message here which says Hi Joe and James, Confession time I've had the biggest crush on James since I saw him in Redcas I absolutely fancied the pants off him in that and never missed an episode. Who do you both have a crush on? and are you allowed to say you fancy someone in front of each other? Love the podcast Janine from Wally in Lancashire Oh Hi Jane Yes he was. he was very sexy in that. he had longer hair as well, didn't he? You had very curly hair. How old were you when? Phil Roper, that was my character's name in that was that? Soldier So yeah, are there people, are there any women that you fancy in anything at the moment I going straight in there and saying because it's quite difficult off the top of your head to think about anybody. But I would have to say, John Burnnfell. Wh is quite fast. You were in quite quick there You said it was difficult, but you were really quick But I know, if I was having a proper real think about it, I'm sure I'm be able to come up with somethingific. But just off the top of my head, I won't have to see John Burnnfell, who I saw recently in this thing called his and hers and he was playing a policeman in it. And he was in the walking Dead. He's very much your kind of type. He's tall, dark curly hair, very strong. Do you like me Oh yeah, he's like you. And he's big and he's sexy and he's dark curly hair I think he's attractive. What' John Burnfell? Yeah. Is that act that that's his name act. A real life name. I'd say, I would go for someone Am a poor man's John Burnfell? No, you're not a poor man's John Burn. Right You're you. You're you U if I to choose anyone to fancy it would be him and also Legend the Gladiator. Oh, you love Legend. I love Legend. I'm sure that you know, the real life Have you met him in real life? Never. I don't think I'd be to contain myself. I'd just sit there giggling. I'd just be ridiculous. But I do like him. I think he's amazing and he was amazing on the I like Legend Yeah. I think he's an amazing man and he's just written a book and everything and I think he's really interesting and he's like fantastic, but I just do love him his legend Be I just love the whole arrarogon sort of I just love all of that. Brilliant's fantastic. Do you know what? Well, he was really good when he was on the apprentice Apprenticeab He was really he came up with brilliant ideas. Yeah. He thought of really good stuff. We ended up buying that penguin thing that the penguin I thought he deal very well was what it was like on of the apprentice He handled everyone really well. there was one episode where there was so much talk going on and there was a lot of you know, making fun of and it was like it was manic and he I thought he dealt with himself really well all the way through that. I thought he was brilliant. Yeah. And we went and we b a penguins. It was a penguin, wasn't it? Yeah yeah. I really like I like him Well you can't have him as your crush, right? You've got to donon't know who would be your crash. No I'm going in big if you're going to go so fast there on your choice. I'm going them Delta goodoodroom It's so n since you a vision, isn't it? Yeah Would you have guessed that I never would have guessed that, right? Oh, I would now you've said, because I mean I thought she was incredible. Beautiful hair. abbsolutely amazing, veryery, very attractive. But what makes me laugh is that I never would have chosen her because you don't seem to have people like that in your head. And I know that that is only since we saw her in your revision just like a couple of weeks ago. When When we were watching it, did you think we fancy her? Oh god, no, not I was raving about her quite a lot. Oh Godd no, we both No, I didn't No, I didn't for one minute think. Oh Godd, I bet James fancies her because I was sort of near to tears with um J just imagining just how she would have been you know, she was incredible. And I was loving I was enjoying the performance too much myself to even think about you. It was an emotional performance and it was true And in this day and age, it's just really good to see someone You like humuman performer Absolutely. giing it. what is all what creativity is all about I kind of feel now that I've been reduced in my choices because I've chosen Legend and John Bournfell purely out of their body and their looks and their sexiness And you are going on so much about Delta's performance. I know she's incredible and beautiful, but you need to choose someone that you're like, oh my Godd, because they're just gorgeous. No I fancy it as well Well I know, we ha mean gone on about that bit so much. No because I was I was blown away by her performance. I mean but she is reallyally attractive as well Right, you've got to do another one ' too. She's got it all going on. Do another one Well said we've said the other one. I said Who's the other one? Its the Gladiator Oh really? Saber. Saber. Saber. Yeah. And why do you like sab? S look, there's a theme there. strrong women. ye, I see, that's why That's why I like you so much. God, you do. You seem to like strong women who are blonde with like wild hair. Yeah, with a wild wildness about them Yeah. Is that why you like me? Yeah, a fire bit of danger., Cathy Oh, from Wuthering Heights. Yeah. Well, I'm Helen now though, that's what you've named me. Oh yeah, Helen, Swansea version. Right, ourur next one. Hi, Joanna, Sarah here, your snowy owl from St. Albans's Bran Although I think I was known as Scrauffy Owl when you were there You've been following your career since very Annie Mary, you've and for both proud. Oh anyhow, or any who As part of your fifty things to do before you're fifty, I can highly recommend a gin tasting at my friend Sean's, also at Treborth and Saint Albans's girl, her got gin garden in Potainen Get half a dozen or so friends and family together and you can book your free tasting and you won't regret it. all the best Oh my god. That a good idea. putut me down to that. idea. Hia, Sarah. Oh my God. I remember going to brownies in Staint Alrbans God, I loved going to brownies. It was absolutely flipping brilliant Although we did have one residential sort of thing where we had it was only down by the beach and we had to go and stay there. We did like amazing things during the day. and then I didn't like having to sleep in, you know like a big thing the same as everybody else, you know, like all everybody el Pen said No. We were in a massive, big wooden hat type thing, like you see in the horror film, Friday the thirteenth when they're all in a big cabin And I got quite scared and I didn't really like that. and I wrote a postcard home to momum and dad saying, I'm having an amazing time. I'm really enjoying it. here. It's brilliant. Please can you come and pick me up? I want to come home.. But I think that that would be a really nice thing to do gin tasting. I've never ever done any form of wine tasting, gin tasting, anything like that What we need to do is we need to book to go to Malta together a weekend, you and me And we need to book in My friend Lotie, she's just got, oh my Godd, the most perfect family, most wonderful husband, Chris. And when they first met, she didn't drink wine at all. And for Chris, he was very much like, oh my go, you know, let's start trying wine together because it would be a really lovely thing if we went on wine tasting things together. And if you don't drink wine God that' be something that we can't ever do together. He was really like big on it. And she said it was only when it was during the winter or something and it was really pouring with rain and they went and sheltered in like a little wine bar and then they sat down and they shared a big bottle of red wine. that she, Oh my Godd, I really love wine now. Having kids helps you to enjoy one. It does Well, I'm not even sure if you enjoy it because by the time you've sunk that bottle or that couple of glasses when they've gone to bed. Yeah. It could be anything. I think you definitely start drinking more on you Yeah. When they're in bed and you're like, o It's funny isn't it? Because I thought that like the other day that you know, I settled them all and stuff and I thought, o, I just want to sit down and have a glass of wine. And I've never ever been a big drinker Bat Oh my Godd, it feels like I've never smoked. and I imagine that that is what it feels like. It's just of certain things just to get that dopamine hit it must be, to get just that sense of o You know, like having some chocolate cake and cream Having a cigarette, having a glass of wine Paton is lovely. Gorgeous, isn't it? It's gorgeous down there. Yeah in the Ga. Lovely. Right. Well, thank you very much, Sarah. That's really cool. Oh, I think we've got some voice notes now Let's have our first voice note. Hi Joe and James. It's Sue from Swanseie Also known as Joe's M and James's mother in law. I've just been listening to this week's podcast I minute It's just like sitting in the kitchen with the two of you. Joanna issuing orders for everyone And Jam's struggling to make a cup of tea that someone anyone will enjoy I'm phone here with some good advice for you, James. Watch Rivals Series O with Joe. You will love it I watched it last year in your house when we were dog and guinea picksitt in. A dog said, Oh we're not watching that I went up with the dogs, but I was hooked and I thought it was brilliant forward last week and I said to Dad, comeome and watchatch rivals series one It set in the nineteen eighties and you will love it where he was hooked from the beginning He loved the music, and he was even laughing out loud, which we all know was a one off as he's no sense of humour You'll be ready then for series two then it would be time for Carkson's fararm I think the rivals' food and drink you saw in the supermarket, James was probably ails, Black forest gatto., baby sham, chicken in the basket Very nineteen eighties and it enough bring back memories I love your latest little phrase Joe about being scared or nervous, but you're not in danger I've decided I'm going to apply that to my life now when I'm a bit anxious or worried or on edge over something I just remember, well, I'm not in danger And also, thanks for reminding me, Joe about answering surveys always used to be people outside the Dlphin hotel. doing different surveys And I always stopped and I loved dancering them I was always going in sight with them and giving my opinion James is right, I'd be a great secret shopper Oh, Eijah has some advice for you, James on the food issue coming in from school Get that air fryer that's sitting in a box in the utility room and start using it You will have things cooked really quickly, especially your sausages Well, I'll end this now on T Gate There are various ways people like their tea A weak cup of tea, which is my choice. So tea bag last a milky cup of tea, which is a lot of milk. so that goes in first and a strong cup of tea, which is water first and then tea bag and then let it stew. not for me. Obviously Lotie likes it that way Well, I'm off now to start watching another of Joanna's recommendations, The Diplomat So Love you both, love to the kids and the dogs and the guineas. and see you soon. Bye. Thank you Mum. Thanks so Message. That's absolutely brilliant. I have been saying for ages. Do you know what, right? Earlier on this morning, I sent Mum a message and I said, For God's sake, will you hurry up and send me a voice note? She hasn't sent me anything at all because she said she's been too nervous too. and what makes me laugh is that I can tell, right For her nerves, she's written out that h on sne and she's read it all out. Which is really sweet and has just really made me laugh. I can tell that you read that out you could remember your points and you could remember what you wanted to say. Oh my God, that's absolutely hilarious Also, I can't believe that you've managed to get Dad to watch rivals because I think dad's a bit prudish sometimes and there's quite a bit of sex in there so I think that would have shocked him. But once because the thing is Dad writes stuff off straight away. I mean, they started watching Breaking Bad and the first episode they were like, oh Godd, we don't like this,' then this is very good. I was like, forgot We've got to watch more than the first twenty minutes and then they put it on and they said I think this is the best thing we've ever seen in our lives. And so rivals, I'm really glad that Mum has got dad to, you know start watching it now. It's brilliant You gott to watch it. You gott to watch it with you. Yeah. We need to watch it don't we? Yeah. We need to watch it That's so true, Mum about the food as well, because it's all nineteen eighties now, isn't it? So it would have been wasas it prawn cocktail? Yeah, it was, it was stuff like that. I was watching an interview with a more recently, right or the rivals Cast and they had to choose between cheese and pineapple or hummus and crisps What would you have chosen and pineapple. I would have gone for cheese and pineapple as well Most of them said hummus and crrisps and I think it was. I think it might have been Emily Attack who said cheese and pineapple. I think only one of them said it cheese and pineapple the entire time. we need to do? For the kids now. let's do that. Let's do like a nineteen eighties buffet. Yeah ye Cheese and pineale sausage steed eggs, sausage on a steicky bloody love it. They would love it And the air fryer, weve got to get this air fryer out. Wow because it's right. Everybody's saying how quick it is Susages Yeah be really fast. Oh my god because it takes us like so long to do the sausages. Dad, you need to just come down and get the air fryer out for us and show us what to do. Shall we get it out tonight? I will open that bottle of rosa you've got for me. Well get it out tonight and let's do wet. Well it's Friday night and it's better things to do on a Friday night. Instructions for an air fryer. This is the rock and roll. Why is why we're not getting it out? Yeah We got to get it out. We gott to get it out. Yeah Thank you, thank you. Send me more voice notes, because it's nice to hear from you I've spoken to them in ages because I've been working back to back. and I've spoken to her for ages. I'm going to play them into the microphone He Helen Heathcliffe, Rachel here looving the pod I am originally from Huddersfield and James my parents actually met in Bradford So it's lovely to hear your voice I feel like it's a nice reminder of home I'm in London now, so I don't hear those Dulit Yorkshire ts very often anymore. So thank you for that. My question is about baby names I am one of those people who has always had a list on their phone. I've yet to have any children, but I have enough names to have a whole kind of von trap situation, but I want to know how you picked all your kids' names. I feel like they're all very cool, they Strike a good balance between not super common but also not like super wacky and unheard of F feel like you're somewhere in the middle which is the perfect spot. feel that's what everyone is searching for, isn't it with a name. So yeah, I'd love to know how you picked them all and Were they always on a list? Did you just hear one one day and no that was the one Yeah, let me know. Thankks. Brilliant What a good question. message. Yeah that's a lovely message. Well, I've never had a list of names. When I was young, I really liked the name Connie Constance because that was my grandmother's name on my dad's side. My dad's mom was called Constance. Constance Dorson she was called. and I really liked that and I like the name Cny. and And then I think it was my great, great, great grandmother, I think was called Eva And aside from that, I didn't ever really ever think about any names or anything like that because I was never very maternal and so wasn't planning anything like that And and what about you? Did you have any names s liked or anything? No, I didn't I didn't have any names that I was dead set on. But when you start thinking about it, it gets quite complicated, doesn't it? Be You know, It's true, you know, you need to have a name that's not going to restrict your kid because that's what I started thinking about. L I don't want to give them like, a name that's like, o, I really like it, but it's going it's going to You know, I don't know like it's either going to put too much ono them. You know, it makes them have to be a certain type of person. Someone said to me, it's good that you can if there's a name that you can imagine them standing up and introducing themselves and they're like, you know, a human rights lawyer but also that if they were playing drums in a band, that the name would suit for that as well. Yeah, that's a good point. But I never thought about that. I just thought of a name that I liked I didn't I think because yeah, I just I like quite simple names. I didn't want anything that was too sort of fluffy or but you know, I don't know, I just thought if I like the name and I like the sound of the name, then you know, once I get the name, I get the name and instinctively, I'm just gonna know that it's the name. Yeah. And so right from the get go, I was quite adamant about Eva, wasn't I Do you ever remember when I first came up with EVa? Yeah, I remember that. remember I remememberers knocking names about And then you said Ea and I was like, o, I love it. Yeah, that's really great. I love it.ice. And I felt sort of was like done. just. It was very early on for about twenty weeks, wasn't it? Yeah It was like EVa But we had a lot of different ones, didnn't we? What other ones Um, didn't we have Margot? Margo I liked Vivienne and I liked Margaret. I used to have a list on my ph I don't know if it's still there, but I used to have lists of boys' names and girls' names And we was just a whittittle. Oh I liked Clemmentine. I liked Beatrice. But all of them none of them it was kind of like, o this is a nice name, this is a nice name, this is a nice name. but none of them were like this is the name until I went Eva And it was just like, yeah, it's going to be Ea, just straight awayay, wasn't it? Yeah, I tell you what it's mad as well that is, once you settle on that name. You can't imagine calling your child any other name So it doesn't. takes on they create the personality of the name themselves, don't? Yeah. Because now I can't think of our children as any other name. I went into hospital because I was hemorrhaging with Eva and when I was in hospital, the girl who was opposite me, she was having a baby and she talked about different names and she liked the boy's name Okay And I thought God, that's quite cool, Kick. But I don't think that I could call our child. Wasn't she Dutch? Yeah, she was de her husband was de. Yeah, so that was a name. That was like that wasn't strange name to me No No. and I thought, God, I like the sound of that, but I don't think I'd be able to call my child Kick What about Kit And And I'd never really thought or heard the name really kit before or even considered it. And this was when I was still pregnant with Eva. So we then I said to youo and then we had a chat and we both said, well, after this one, if we ever get to have another child and it's a boy, should we call him Kit? So right from the get go, we knew that. But then everyone Kit. Yeah. and he's not short for Christopher or anything. you know, he is just Kit Kit I was mad because at the same time, I think Alex Jones had a baby called Kit and then somebody else another celebr one called Kit. There were cdertainly quite a lot of kitss. it was weird. And everybody in the family, my mum was a bit like, oh my god, ' Kit was quite an unusual name, you know, at the time. And mum was just a bit like, Ohh my god, are you sure were't, you know, ' it's just an unusual name. And I was like, yeah, definitely's gonna be Kit. But we still went through loads like Harry, Henry, Otto. Bodi was one that was Body was a long time I always wanted to call a child Bodi But then yeah, with Kit, we just decided no it's going to be Kit. Then with Noah, we were very much like, o my god, you know, we've used up our girls, we've used up our boys. Flip an egg. What the hell you call another one? So we kept thinking for ages and we went through Outto, Bodi. I really lik Bodi, but everyone was just like, no. You said to me, You cannot call our child
