Lots of wholesome family time, no stress. It cut to three days later and it's just constant. Mummy can I have an ice cream, Daddy can have some money, Mummy can I buy this? And James and I are just looking at each other like, how have we already spent a small fortune? For children, it honestly feels like we're on a never ending loop of tiny financial requests. And you don't want to say no all the time, but you also don't want them thinking money just magically appears every time they ask That's why we've loved using Go Henry because it's helped us turn those moments into something a bit more meaningful Go Henry is an app and debit card for kids that teaches them how to save, invest, earn and spend, but in a really hands on way So now instead of just handing over money, James will say, Allright then, what job are you going to do for it? And cddenly, there's a lot more enthusiasm for helping out around the house And I've noticed such a difference They actually stop and think now The other day Kit said, I might save up for it instead. and I just looked at James like, Did you hear that? That's growth. It's not just about the money really, it's about them understanding choices, learning a bit of independence, and feeling proud of what they've earned And for us, He just takes away that constant back and forth and makes things feel a bit calmer So this summer, you can grow their skills and their money at gohenry. com with one month free to get started Go Henry where kids go to learn and grow money Terms and conditions Aly. Hello and welcome to another new episode of Lash with me, Joanna Page. And me James Thornton. Wh thinks he's really cool though? I was just practising me Waltz's voice then. D you know I used to really fancy the fairess who did the Walt says yeah, I quite liked that. Yeah. I lik that whole. I liked all of the fells. I don't think I quite like that. They didn't do that voice th. None of them sounded like that. You sound like smashy' nicy. Okay ye They sounded just a bit rougher. Okay. scream if you want to go faster. No that doesn't sound. Okay H here we go. Stret yourself in. I'll Jesus stop it, please. Ke ph on a pedal clockwise only, clockwise only. My God, Stop. I haven't got the energy to. I would have love that tonight. I would actually love to do that. I bet you would have loved that job. When you were young, you used to just smile was like one side of your face, didn't you? just like that? And then yeah, you used to think you were pretty cool. Spinning everyone around on the walls. Getting off with all the girls. Yeah. I don't think anybody would have got off with you if you were in that placeice though. Drum onider while spinning everyone around on the horses. Well, we are just scraping ourselves through this episode because we've had the whole end of turn. It's been coming for about the last Oh my gosh, couple of weeks. Eva's just now finishing junior school for the first time. Well not obviously the first time she's not going to continuously finish it. Please just, will you stop fussing? Willie, I can't concentrate. Whatill are you doing? I'm just doing that so I can make sure you're not too loud. Oh my go. Get the levels right Eva's finished junior school And I honestly didn't think it would be as momentous as it was. It was I really feel quite thrown and unsettled, like all stability has gone because they had their leavers week and they went to Thor Park and then they went to like a water park and they've been having sleepouts and all camping together and doing the most amazing adventurous and brilliant stuff together. And it's been the whole group the boys and the girls who normally are split in two she's thirteen, like not properly split into, you know how you just like sort of converge into those you know sexes. Well, they've all now sort of bonded and everybody's bonded and it's all really lovely because there's this whole sense of it's ending and everybody's going up to you know to the biggest school now. And just suddenly, everything just seemed we knew where we were And we knew her teachers and it was just we knew her school and they were all in the same school together and it was just safe and she's been this and she was dinky and year four And all of a sudden it's over and I wasn't prepared for it. And then when we went to the prize giving and all the prizes were being given out and she had to get up and she did a speech because she was head of school council. And I was so proud of her, but then seeing all these little children that we' just we've known since they were dinky and they're all growing up and you see them. and you go, Oh my gosh, they're growing into young men and young women. and you know, they've got their things that they're all excelling at. And it was just so, so lovely. And then Eva started crying hysterically when her friend was doing a speech and u I then went I've been crying since the night well, since the Monday of her last ever week I saw her off to school and then I burst out crying. And then on the very last day I dropped her at school and I was crying, driving in the car, trying not to show her And then I dropped her at school, came back home, sat there crying and I was on the edge then until we got to speech day. And then I cried all the way through that and then watching her hysterically cry in. And then I basically just cried all day. And we've not been ourselves since have we? We've been really We've just been thrown. There's change in it. I don't think we like change. not The older I get, the less I like change I thought right that I did like change because I'm an actress and I don't like staying in the same job. I like just shoving stuff in a suitcase and going, o right, I work with those for six weeks. I'm off to go and do something else now for two weeks and then I'll have a new family and I'll be doing this with them. and I don't know why that suddenly changed. And I do not like change. You know that wow. Well I don't I don't like change. I don't like change. I'm obviously getting older I just I don't like change. I think I think it's when you've got kids as well because Before kids, you're like, you know to go off and do anything K. You've got no responsibilities. And then when you've got kids, you're responsible for them and The thought of anything being unsettled or not sure Well, I'm worried about her safety and everything again. now going up to a new school and you've got to get into the rhythm of it all, get into the WhatsApp group, know the days for this, the stuff for that and make sure that she's you know happy and settled. and also it's the passing of time, isn't it I mean, it's just sudly hit me that she's not going to be my baby forever And that every interview I've ever done, whenever I'm quizzed on how I'll be when the kids fly the nest and all of that and I've always mouthed off going, oh, I'll be fine with that. It'll be nice for us to have some time together. And quite clearly it's not going to be fine because I've gone to pieces and she's only left junior school thirteen years old old. And I've gone to pieces. So the thought of her getting to the age of eighteen and then going off to Blinkoln Drama School or university or even moving to another town Even moving down the road if she wants to go and work in the post office around the corner, if she gets a flat around the corner, the fact that she won't be there with us. What are we gonna do? What are we gonna do? What are we gonna do? I worry about, you know, I worry about now making a living and having a job You know, having a life. I don't want them to do that. I just want them to stay with us. I know. I know It's hard, isn't it? Yeah. It's hard. But at the same time, it's been so emotional this last week because it's I'm really proud of her as well. Really proud of everything she's done and what she's become and how much she's grown up and how much she's achieved and And I'm really pleased for and excited But at the same time, I I don't wantna older and when she was dressed up for her prom. She had a prom. She looked about Well first of. I was trying, but she just looked beautiful. they all look beautiful. But the thought of having to try and buy a prom dress for a thirteen year old girl who is taller than me, she's nearing on six six foot. She's nearing on five foot six now. She's got size eight feet and she's very she's very tall And she's just beautiful. She's just very tall and she's got amazing long legs and she is just the complete interata opposite to me. I to look close for your No none of Her clothes are fitting me. I've got two pairs of her trousers now. She's got these elasticated flares from Hennies, you know H and M. and then she's got these other ones which are like these tight little elasticated flers which I basically used to wear when I first met you when I was early twenties. She's got those now from Fatface as well and I fit in both of them. So I am now getting and pinching clothes from her And so yet, so I was like, o my God, where do you look? You don't want them to look matronly or motherly or maternal or just too grown up. You also don't them want the dress to look too skimpy or too old or too. I mean, getting that balance right, it's really hard. I ordered so many things over the internet. She said she wanted a dark emerald green dress And I thought, I think that's too heavy for a youngster, that colour iss too heavy. But I went in all of the dresses I ordered, I got in that colour, my go, she put it on. She knows her colours. It just suited her. We're the complete opposite in what wear and our colours and all of that obviously because I'm forty nine and she is thirteen. But she just knew her colour it suited her so well And I found this beautiful one shouldered dress with a bow on the top. It was just so glassy and elegant but still young. and it went in and then it just flowed out in this very simple little chiffon. and I got it from Cast teeen Cast. And they were fantastic. I didn't even know that teeen coast existed but I would go there. They are my go to now if I ever need anything formal for her. And she had these little gold, little small heels And I curled her hair. We'd had sports day all day beforehand. that went on til four o'clock in the afternoon. My God, we've been in the sun for that amount of time. We're exhausted. su. Yeah, got her home, washed her hair, got the dress on, she did makeup And we were all good to go and then we dropped her off, didn't we And they had this little thing outside the school What made me laugh is that they had a little table and they had like these little you know cocktails, non alcoholic cocktails and some little finger food and stuff before they went in then for the party. And as soon as they all went in and all the mums were waving, all of the dads just went woof straight down onto the table, took you less than about a minute to get straight in there to any leftover food Well, all the members were standing their crowds. That's becausecause we had sports dayay all day. none of us had eaten anything. We hadn't anything. We were havenous. We were. And then all of us dads were just like, oom right around the table clearing that clearing up all the food. But it was amazing just seeing her going in. And then you know what was lovely? We'd been informed. She was invited to the prom by someone. They weren't boyfriend and girlfriend. it was purely as friends And but we were warned that she said, when you get out of the car, do not speak to him Don't say a word, donon't introduce yourselves. donon't say anything. I was like, off course I won't. I won't say I'll be on my best behaviour. I won't say anything. She said, I know already what daddy's going to be like. we will not say a word. She said, I've already warned my friends about what it's like to have parents who are actors. I know he'll try and make it all about you. So we didn't say a word, we didn't say anything. And then when we wentn there at half past ten at night to pick them up, well to pick her up, We waited outside because we thought, no, we're going to wait until she comes to us and says rightight and ready to go home. We're going let her do the whole thing. And then at one point she came up to us with her friend and Eva was all a bit coy, wasn't she? And her friend said, she wants you to come in and dance with her. And I was like, what? are you joking now? Are you serious? I don't you know, I don' want to step on your toes or anything now An Anva said, No, Mumy will you please come in and dance with me? So I went into the room and you came as well. and then two of the other mums were in there. and she said, will you danance and the music was on and I held her hands and I started crying and I started we danced and we were spinning around and they were taking photos. Oh my God, it was so lovely. It was so lovely Can you imagine when she gets married? No, don't Oh my god, well it's hit us for se, it's thrown us It's thrown us and we felt instable and then we were sunburnt and we cried so much the next day I could barely open my eyes, my eyes were killing me. the Pom They had a murder mystery event So they weren't going to have a big disco. They have like every prom is like a themed one and this year it was murder mystery. And they had two actors Yeah who everyone had chipped in on there towards this murder mystery thing all the parents And so they had two actors When we went in, There was One guy dressed as like a detective with a detective's coat and a pipe all like Sherlock Holmes pipe Yeah. and there was somebody dressed like a maid like an old fashioned sort of made from a murder mystery film Wow, that piqued our interest. The minute we walked in, I was like, What's? What's? Whys you wearing that? And then I saw the woman and she had that little fluffy white hat on and I was like, Oh yeah we go, here we go, right up can we can get involved. I want some of this stuff. You were desperate to join in. Well, I did aort of playing a role. Hello Oh, and then I did find myself going, how? And then I went, Oh Can you tell us who did it? And then well then I just thought I'd just shut your mouth stop it. It's not about you. And then you started doing some sort made characterism in indnd'ia We both did. donon't just put it on me. You were the one who came up with it straight away to try and make the parents laugh. What did you do Hey up, I'm Allen Gardenner. Is anyone seeing anything Anything suspicious going on in the garden tonight? And I was like, Oh, hello. I' miss Mistrel and I'm here to see if I can solve a murder And then we got some laughs from the parents and then we thought we'd better shut our mouths and stop m You know about oursel ourselves episode of Lash is brought to you in association with Dmentia UK On this podcast, we're always talking about how life can feel like a juggling act You know, kids, work, friends and somewhere in the middle of it all, you're supposed to be looking after yourself as well And for some of you You're also caring for a parent or partner who's living with dementia which is a huge thing to carry on top of everything else. We let the kids stay up We broke the kids really, didn't we? Because we said, yeah, go on, you can stay up. We're going to let you stay up And then Everybody was in our bed and everybody was awake apart from Bea, she was sleeping Yeah. And so everybody was all good to go and then we got the announcement it's starting an hour late was not starting till two. Eva fell asleep in our bed and then I went in because Beau woke up, didn't she? I think? I went in and I said I'm going to go in with Beau for an hour and then Everybody else fell asleep. and then by the time it got to two o'clock, I was waiting for two o'clock, got to two. I came back into our room, you'd carried everybody else into their rooms. So I mean we were just sat in our bedroom. mean That never happened. sat in our bedroom and we could just sit there and we watched the whole match. A match the pair of us, right at two o'clock to three o'clock in the morning, not wanting to make a sound because we don't want to wake up any of the kids because they will spoil the football And It's like the most dramatic football match I've ever seen in my life for starters. we score two goals. Yeah. I mean the fact having to silently you just go. I know where we're going Rning around Silent high f in. How are you think J's going mad. It's going up to t that. And then, oh my gosh, what was and then didn't Adam Mexico score a goal then, so then were like, God silently can believe that Then there was the penalty Be we were beside ourselves with that. Then there was the other penalty on the other side. we were like oh my god. thenen there was there was some cononza. Is it Konza? How do you pronounce it? becausecause there's conza. and then quanta The one who got sent off is a Q. Yeah Yeah. So then with his red card we were like I know he was so unlucky as well. was you know what I think was playing so well all the way through it, but but stuff happens, doesn't it? You know I think now with VAR is, it's just I think it's over the top now in it It is over Be he did that tackle. He won the ball and his leg just bounced off the ball And so that's why his leg was high and his studs went in the guy's shin. It wasn't intentional. There was no way was there anything that he considered doing and actually intended to do. It was an accident and he went and got went a great tackle to get the ball, but his leg bounced off and then went high. There's nothing you can do about that. I mean I was thinking if that was me and I've been sent off and I'm sat in the dressing room and I'd be thinking What could I have done? I know. I did everything I How can you commit to go into the ball and throw yourself into it? And then if you accidentally You know, hit the other person. Well youve probably gonna touch them with your foot, aren't you? I mean, what that means now is you can't go for the ball You can't go for tackles like that anymore because it's too dangerous. Well, I can't believe how much I was thinking, oh my goodness, right ten players now. what are we gonna do? But oh my Godd. they just well, I can't believe it. And then you know right sometimes the press and everybody is like, o, you know, I'm to go at them all the time because it's not perfect. and I liked how Thomas We call him always Thomas Toukel, but he's not Thomas Toukel It's Thomas T.omas Is it Thomas Toull? It's Toull either. Tu Cal Thomas Tual T. Is it Tu Cal Right. He always he said the other day, well, it's not supposed to be easy, is it? Life isn't easy. If everything was easy, you just get what you wanted all the time. And it's true, right. if we were going to watch Russell Crow be a gladiator in real life all those years ago, he wouldn't come out, right and just beat up a lion and well, a tiger, it was normally, wasn't it? Beat up a tiger and jump on its back and ride it around the Coliseseum and it will be fine He would come out and then probably for the whole of like the big performance, the tiger would swipe him, he'd be bleeding, his arm would be hanging off. you know, he'd be having to fight like mad and everybody would be beside themselves. And then right at the very end he would end up getting the tiger and winning and then getting on the tiger's back and then going yeah, I've won and everybody then will be cheering Because it's not straightforward, is it? Things happen. You've got to fight for it. I thought it was so He was so brave when he took canane off at the end. Oh my God, I can't believe it. because we were like what if we go to penalties? Yeah, we were like, o my gosh, if they equalize now when we go to extra time and we haven't got cane on the pitch and then he goes to penalties and Kane's not there Yeah. That's really brave That's what I really like about him. Oh I like I like. I think he makes really brave decisions Yeah And he's not afraid to just go all out No, he's not and encourage the players to go all out as well. D't play it safe
