The Chinese government released new data on its factory activity today, reporting it increased slightly in June, driven mostly by exports and demand tied to artificial intelligence For more on this, I'm joined by Prianka Kishore, founder and principal economist at Asia Decoded, an independent macro consonsultancy firm She joins me from Singapore, good morning Good morning, Kimberly, Great to join you What of these latest numbers tell us about how China's economy is doing So this is the PMI data and it showed an improvement in June over May led by a new expor orders. That is optimistic, but I don't think overall it actually impacts the Q two outlook to a significant degree. Canue to expect a slowdown in Q two GDP growth from Q one given the plunge in investments and the slowdown in fiscal spending from the government Why would there be a slowdown for folks who aren't familiar with sort of what's going on there? In the second quarter, what we have seen is actually not the available of funds, but it's the drawdown of funds by local governments that has slowed down, which probably has resulted in some of the decline in the infrastructure spending that we have seen How much does the ebs and flows of Chinese manufacturing sort of affect everyday consumers, say here in the United States At this point of time, China is the leading exporter in the world, and though the US is erecting a tariff ball, against China, it continues to be an important export destination for the economy and to that extent, how Chinese manufacturing evolves just gives an idea of to what extent imports will shape up in the US economy riiana Kishhore is founder and principal economist at Asia Decoded, joining me from Singapore. But in another case, Trump vers. sllaughter, the court gave the president broader authority to fire other federal officials Here with more on what this means going forward is Sarah Binder. Cook because It feels like The court is saying that the president has the power to fire all sorts of federal regulators, but the Federal Reserve is special.
