And this is the case of Victoria Silliers And she was an avid skydiver And on one routine jump Both of her parachutes failed. And she fell four thousand feet which to many, you' think she fell to her death, but no, she miraculously survived And was wondering hm Why did both of my parachutes fail? Because actually skydiving, Belve it or not Relatively safe. Very safe. It's a lot safer than many other activities it can do. Would you ever go Yes, I want to go, but Kennel will not let me. Oh. She doesn't want to theiskise. Yeah yeah. She doesn't want to take the risk I'd absolutely go skky. Really? Yeah, it's on my list of things. I might just do it when she she's out of town one time. All right Well, this case is absolutely insane and you know, as always We got to go back to the beginning because Victoria I mean, she had no idea what she was getting herself into with Mil. you know, very, very accomplished individual, very respected individual and It's u A miracle that she survived that fall And what ensues afterwards will leave you shocked, honestly. I mean, it's just Insane. this man has done. If we go back to the beginning There wasn't a whole lot of information around Victoria Ciller's early life, but she was born in either nineteen seventy four or nineteen seventy five and lived primarily in England before she became an Army captain and physiotherapist for the Ministry of Defense, which I don't know what a physiotherapist. Is that like just a PT type like a physical therapist Basically, she saw a lot of, you know, when when soldiers would be injured either on vacation or during training, she would kind of provide physical therapy for them. Okay, o. That's what I figured physio meant She described her childhood as very ideal. She played outside with her brother, loved reading, and had an early passion for horses. However, at fourteen, her parents informed her that her mother was suffering from cancer, and it felt as though the rug had been pulled out from under her, which I mean, I think we all can understand that. She described how she focused more on the stables. and losing herself away from the pain. I mean, it's a really tough situation to go through And when her mother did pass away, she said she was able to compartmentalize the pain She found skydiving shortly afterward and even said it was a way to escape the pain that she felt from losing her mom. She was married once before, though the marriage ended in infidelity and devastated the young Victoria. She continued her work with the Ministry of Defense while also becoming an advanced free fall skydiving instructor. Toria had been a paratrooper with the British arrmy and described herself as an adrenaline junkie who had tallied over two thousand five hundred jumps So a skydiving vet at this point, I mean, literally skydiving vet And two twenty five hundred jumps. I mean, this is just like so routine to her at this point But in two thousand nine, she met Emil Silliers, who was a serergeant with the Royal Army Physical Training Corps And Emil had been a patient of hers after a skiing accident And the two immediately got along, found some common interests However, Victoria was still with her first husband at the time that they met And when they divorced in twenty ten, she reached out to this charismatic sergeant once again She said, He made you feel like you were the center of his universe In her words, Emil was wonderful. He was charming, romantic and an adrenaline junkie just like her They got married in twenty eleven and then began to start making a family together And while their new life was feeling like a fairy tale to Victoria and him He quote unquote, morphed himself into her perfect man. And it's unclear how much she knew about her husband's sordid past But Emil, let's talk about him for a minute He was born in South Africa in nineteen eighty And when he was sixteen, he got involved in what was likely his first serious relationship with a thirteen year old girl. named Nicoline Shehepard And the two remained together throughout their teenage years, and Nicooline had their first child shortly after her sixteenth birthday And at the time, a meal would have been nineteen And Nicoine explained that as a teenager, She was delighted by having the attention of an older boy and considered a male handsome. confident and most of all manly She said he was charismatic and romantic We used to go out for a monthly anniversary and he'd give me a long stemmed rose every time, which I don't think I've ever given Kendall aong stemmed rose before not gonna lie I'm failing. You've given her multiple long stone ses in the form of a bouquet, I would assume True I guesss that equals the same. There's something about a singular rose for you. But anyways, Nicoline said that Emil was always charming and that All the girls adored him. He's that guy In turn, Emil adored all them too Nichline said, You're young and you think you're in love. He cheated on me time after time and I always took him back. He proposed to me using his grandmother's ring. And we never made it to the altar though. He was cheating on me with my best friend But u that right there says a lot about them Cheating on somebody with their best friend is a special kind of cruel and That best friend is a special kind of cruel too. Yeah That is no friend of My No, I couldn't yeah, seriously. So fuck top While Emil found work with his family's construction business, money was always tight and he splurged on luxury items like shoes and golfing equipment In two thousand, Emil first came to the UK on a working holiday visa and found employment with a few pubs and bars I and Nicoen had welcomed their second child and had recently moved into a rented home together in South Africa She believed that they were still in a committed relationship and that this was simply a working holiday for a meal and that he would eventually return from this trip But during a trip back to South Africa at the end of two thousand, Emil spent days with his family and it seemed as though everything was still The relationship with the family. and his two young children, and of course, Nicooline So it was a bolt from the blue when Emil's mother told Nicoleene that he had married a British woman named Carlie Taylor And we're not sure if Nicoine confronted Emil about this, but what is clear is that their relationship was now officially over. So Sounds like he went to the UK on his working trip And fell in love with somebody else and basically started a whole new life there which is Also very cruel. tisk, tisk Well, years later, Nicleine also moved to the UK and brought her two children along. And one day, her daughter asked if she could get to know her father Nicoleine reached out to Emil's mother, who then informed her that Emil was happy to meet with her and the children Even at this first reunion, the spark between Emil and Nicalen was still there. And this was rather convenient as, according to Emil, he and Carly were getting divorced. Nicoalen, who was still as charmed by Eme as ever, got back into a relationship with him Then one morning, Emil left Nicooline's house and accidentally left his phone behind. And When it rang, Nicleen answered and asked who it was. On the other line, Carly said, it's his wife And she revealed that she and Emil were still together and had never once even discussed the possibility of divorce This dude is like He's crazy. Thisud iss playing games, okay? At this point, Emile had two children, each with Nicoolenine and Carly. The two women decided to confront him at his home in Lark Hill Barracks Wilkshire. Nickolinee and Carly waited inside as Emilile opened the door. Nicolinee said, quote, He came in and spoke to me in Africans as he knew Carly wouldn understand. He asked what the hell I was doing, and we confronted him. He was calm as anything He looked from one of us to the other as if he was thinking, who wants me the most He chose me and I knew then that I needed to walk away. Carly could have him. Aside from the infidelity There were also early signs of Emil's issues with money Back in South Africa, Nicoine was struggling to afford diapers for their baby son. and she reached out to Emil for help, but he declined. That same day, he purchased himself a new pair of expensive golf shoes. All I have to say is fuck this dude Any man that buys himself Fucking golf shoes overver diapers for your baby can turnown in hell ash behavior. And this practice of ignoring family responsibilities to splurge on luxury items would remain a constant issue with the mill's relationships, both romantic and familial Another constant was Emil's ability to remain cool, even when under pressure A colleague, whom Emil owed money to was so enraged by Emil that he quote, grabbed him by the scruff of his neck Apparently, Emil didn't react He only said he didn't want to talk about the loan Nicoleine remembered once, while they were dancing, he leaned over to her and whispered in her ear. If you ever hurt me, I will hurt you ten times over beforefore carrying on, like nothing happened. just like Just a heads up. If you fuck with me, I'll ruin you. Anyways Nicoine eventually moved on. She got married, had five children, and one grandchild. She shared this grandchild with Emile who never met them, and she said, I feel like I've dodged a bullet He doesn't know how to tell the truth. He's too arrogant to believe he's not the most intelligent person in the room. Unfortunately, he's always had the ability to make you believe that black is white. He's controlling and manipulative. However, it's unclear how much Victoria knew about Emil's lying cheating ways, as the couple geared up to have their second child between twenty fourteen and twenty fifteen. The first strains in the marriage came from Emil's insatiable habit of spending money on himself. once, when Emil's father was very ill in South Africa He asked Victoria if he could borrow money from her to send back to his family She agreed, but instead of sending it to his father, Emilile kept it for himself and spent the cash on skiing equipment Clubs, of course, and gadgets Over the course of their marriage, Emile had borrowed around nineteen thousand pounds from his wife, intending to repay her by standing order And sometimes he did, but most often His debts remained unsettled. Aside from his wife, Emil also reached out to friends, colleagues, and payiday loan companies for money Owing debts outside Victoria are totaling around twenty four thousand pounds And just where was all this money going after he purchased his golf clubs and luxury shoes? Well, Emil had made a habit of visiting sex workers, sometimes as a daily routine On top of the sex workers, Emil was using dating sites such as Tinder and attending a swinger's club any chance he could. Busy, dude. He carried on at least two long term extramarital affairs while with Victoria One with his ex wife Carly in the UK, and one with a girlfriend who lived in Austria named Stephanie Carly only lived about five minutes away from the home he shared with Victoria. Thisud's a mess. He has no respect for anyone. whatsoever. Absolutely not. He doesn't, he doesn't care if he's essentially stealing from You know, all these people he's manipulated. he's claiming, oh yeah, I'll pay it back, whatever. But I don't think he has any plans of paying them back It's all about what Emil wants and taking care of whatever impulsive desire Emil has at the moment. and he does not care who gets hurt And I mean, that's that's a dangerous individual. And I think When you kind of see all this behavior and you compare it to other cases with individuals like this, you kind of can see where things lead, you know, because he's living very recklessly No regard for anyone. No regard for anyone else. And Eventually you know, and really living multiple lives at this point. so he knows that once these you know, it all comes crashing down on him. What what is he going to do Right And he's going to Desperate. But while Victoria suspected something strange was going on behind her back, she was still a woman in love and believed deeply in their relationship But as Victoria became pregnant with the couple's second child, the cracks in their marriage were only starting to deepen Emil frequently volunteered for residential training camps abroad, especially when Victoria was heavily pregnant.. N and want, you know, he's all about like, oh yeah I'll get you pregnant, but I won't be around to support you whatsoever during that pregnancy because I got to go on Work trips. And so she sent texts and emails to him whenever he was away from home. saying that she loved him, she missed him, and was afraid that he was seeing someone else In one message she wrote, I feel like a failure of a wife which is just just horrible, right? Like He is manipulating her and putting all the blame on her and making her feel worthless and feel like All of her insecurities are her problem and You know, she's feeling like a failure of a wife at this point And it just speaks to what a master manipulator this guy is. But Anmil knows exactly how to exploit this type of situation. He knew Victoria had psychological scars from the infidelity of her first husband And he blamed her suspicions about his behavior on her previous relationship, even though her suspicions are true and told her She was being emotional. Totally gaslighting. Yeah. pooor woman Then he would flip it back at her, telling her that he needed time to think. I mean, it's just It's abusive is really what it is This was even as Victoria discovered evidence of his affairs, including receipts from date nights that he claimed were from other people in the car Okay, and text from strange women he claimed were colleagues He asked. Can a man be friends with women Come on, dude Come on And while on an army ski trip in Austria, he texted Victoria I need to decide whether I want to be in this marriage. I think we may have got married too soon. Victoria was due to give birth to her second child at this time and cried so hard after she received this text that she quote thought it might harm the baby. I mean, that is just so incredibly sad and traumatic and Evil, honestly on a mail's part to do that to her It's already such an emotional roller coaster being pregnant in the first place, but then to pile all this personal bullshit of Emiles on top of it and manipulate her and gaslighter, I mean Pure evil. Yeah, it's horrible. Over the new year in twenty fifteen, Emil went on a work trip, quote unquote and didn't text her a single time. And of course, Victoria is going to be extremely worried. wondering what's going on, what he's doing And she just has no idea And in reality, meals in Berlin with his mistress, Stephanie, avoiding his wife back at home at all costs. You This guy sucks You're gonna to leave your wife and your new child. She doesn't care. It's clear he does not care at all. and I wonder if it was just like He had another child with her to pacify her or you know, further manipulate her to keep the controlling situation going. Alone still pregnant and looking after their toddler, Victoria felt intimidated and afraid She texted Emil about it and he responded Why are you worried They can't do anything And this, of course, was the first time that he actually replied back to her while he was gone. It's like, oh, hey hnoney, sorry missed your other messages Oh, don't worry. Don't We' a collector. Stopp being dramatic Well, without Victoria's knowledge, Emil had transferred three transactions of two thousand pounds from Victoria's savings account to his own. And when she knows the money transfer, Victoria thought that her account had been hacked So she reached out to the bank to investigate the transfer and discovered that the IP address was the family's home computer. And during this trip, Victoria had become completely despondent She sent email another text saying that she ot had enough of life and couldn't stop crying. Tori had previously overindulged in sleep medications following the end of her first marriage And she ended up in the hospital And it wasn't classified as an overdose nor was it enough to make a long term difference. But still, this definitely shows how fragile her mental state is at this point. and how she's getting zero support from Emil. Victoria said she wanted to get a response from Emil, especially since she had suspicions about his fidelity. but He sent her another message that said I think you're better off without me financially. place at the moment. Victoria replied, I married you for better or worse, richer or poor. Let me in and we can work things out together. And then she transferred five thousand five hundred pounds to his bank account so he could repay a loan Voria said she had chosen to bail him out Days after their second child was born, Emil immediately contacted another former romantic interest and planned to go away for a weekend with her What on eararth Not you going to stick around and help support this new child of his spend time with him leaves to go have another Fing to some other woman. Sy sucks And of course, there was this ongoing relationship with Stephanie. whom he had told multiple lies surrounding the status of his relationship with Victoria So who even knows what Stephanie is being told They had first met while Victoria was pregnant and they met for dinner in Austria, where Emil explained that he was separated from Victoria and that she was pregnant with another man's baby. so now he's just straight lying And after the baby was born, he told Stephanie that he had a DNA test proving that he was not the father He told Stephanie I held my baby and felt no emotion. whichich maybe that statement is true. Maybe did actually hold his own baby and felt no emotion. But of course, it's his baby. Even after the birth of their second child, Emil continued to visit Stephanie overseas, taking her out for expensive meals in the Czech Republic in Germany which was largely financed by his wife Victoria without her knowledge. Stephanie was completely smitten with Emil, and he was public with their relationship. They even ate breakfast in the mess hall with Emil's fellow soldiers who at this point all soon that he and Victoria were separated And while he constantly messaged Stephanie telling her he intended to marry her He never once raised the possibility of divorce with Victoria He messaged Stephanie and said, I can do random and spontaneous from April. While he claimed this was in reference to a deadline he had set for himself to leave Victoria The date take on a much more sinister meaning However, just as Victoria was fearing the relationship was crumbling, she thought that somehow all going to turn around the week of Easter Sunday twenty fifteen. For a meal, the night of march twenty ninth, twenty fifteen started with a plan. He went to the kitchen while Victoria and his two children were sleeping and opened the gas valve above the cupboard However, Emil had somehow nicked his finger in the process and left behind a small spot of blood on the valve. And then as the kitchen was filling with gas He headed over to Carly's house where they had sex And once their rendezvous was over, Emile texted Stephanie twice, looked at a porn website for thrills and drove to his barracks in Aldershot, where he spent the night The next morning, Victoria woke up and went to the kitchen to grab some milk for the kids And when she gets in the kitchen, she immediately realizes that the whole thing reeks of gas And while she suspected there was a leak, once she noticed the bloodstain on the valve, she texted Emil and asked if he had been messing with it She even jokingly wrote, Are you trying to bump me off However, Emil never explained why he had opened the valve. The only thing he texted back was, haveave you tried putting the stove on? Oh my Godd, dude. He knows exactly what that could do. Yeah This obviously shocked Victoria, who told him that she hadn't because that would risk the entire house completely blowing up and killing her and possibly their two kids That's evil, man Of course, this is exactly what Emil wanted. He wanted Victoria to blow herself up in their own kitchen The kids Upstairs, a few feet away sick But why would a meal go from cheating on his wife to actively trying to kill her The answer as always was money You see, Emil had been careful to invest in Victoria's life insurance policy throughout the years He had added her to his Amy policy and ensured she had the maximum possible coverage He also assumed he would receive a massive payout from Victoria as well However, once Emil's spending habits became known to her, Victoria actually changed her will in late twenty fourteen. Cut meal out of it entirely and left everything to the two children Still, with Emil promising Stephanie that he would leave Victoria and mounting debts of which Victoria was the largest creditor Emil could seemingly knock out all of his issues in one blow if he killed his wife But now that the gas explosion had failed, he had to come up with a new way to kill Victoria and make it look like an accident Victoria explained later in the week about an incident in which she confronted Emil about smoking in their car She said he gave her a blank look in which for the first time, she was genuinely scared of her husband. Just then, on april fourth, twenty fifteen, Emil suggested they take a parachute jump. Victoria was elated, Not only was this the first time she would jump since giving birth, but it also seemed like Emil was making an effort to do something together. Emil arranged the jump at Nether Avon, where Victoria had been a longtim member and brought along their newborn and three year old daughter, saying that he wanted them to watch their mother jump. And Emil, who, as we know, was usually cold and cruel towards Victoria, was unusually warm on this excursion. He offered to collect her parachute from the kit store and when his daughter needed to use the restroom He took it into the bathroom with them. Mark Bayotta, the chief instructor and head of the Army Parachute Association, said that this was ridiculous Everybody left their packs in the hangar, as it would be very difficult to fit both Emil, his daughter, and the cumbersome parachute pack into the small bathroom stall. However, only a short time after Emil returned to Victoria with her pack, it was determined that the weather was too bad for anyone to jump that day And they'd have to try again the next day, april fifth which just so happened to be Easter Sunday. But here, once again, Emil made a very strange decision Instead of rechecking the parachute pack at the kid store, like everybody else He stashed it in Victoria's locker, and he told Victoria that this was to make it easier for her the next day. but in reality, he didn't want anyone else to check the parachute before her jump he wants her to be the one to use that specific parachute. By the afternoon, Victoria and the eleven others joining her on the jump were getting antsy Victoria texted Emil and said that she was tempted to return home to eat her chalk egg Be it's Easter, right But Mil texts it back immediately, encouraging her to stay until the jumping conditions improved And this once again shocked Victoria. The husband who was making her depressed before, was now putting her first and encouraging a hobby that used to be her life before their marriage But Victoria wasn't just saying this to get home to her family. She also had a sixth sense that she shouldn't complete the jump Though at the time, she had no idea why At four PM, they decided to do a hop and pop which is a low altitude jump in which they open their shutes within seconds of jumping from the plane. Once on booard the plane, Victoria was happy and excited to be jumping again bumping all the other skydivers in the plane with her She was the last of the twelve participants to make the jump Once she was in the air, Victoria fell for about three seconds before she pulled her her main shoot which deployed sllack and failed to stop her rapid descent Then she went to pull her reserve chute a fail safe that was always intact in case that main choot doesn't work. But even here, the reserve chute didn't deploy as it should have, and the failed chutes looked like a bag of washing, fluttering in the air as Victoria continued rapidly plummeting towards the Eth Back on the ground, Mark said that he had never seen a reserve chute fail in all of his skydiving experience. At this point, Victoria was in a free fall, plummeting four thousand feet to the ground. body was suspended in what is called a death spiral in which someone is trapped in a rapid, uncontrollable descent back to the surface of the earth And one of Victoria's friends who's on the ground described a scene as like somebody threw a chunk of laundry out of the airplane And when Victoria slammed onto the ground, those watching were so certain she had died that they went to the crash scene with a body bag However, once they were there, they were greeted with a miracle. Although horribly injured, Victoria opened her mouth and started mumbling She had miraculously survived a four thousand foot plummet to the earth. which is Absolutely a miracle. I mean fourour thousand feet unbelievable. And I, we were talking yesterday about somethingomet along the lines of at a certain point it becomes It doesn't really matter how far you're falling. Explain Explain to people what you were saying. Well, you know, we talk about it in just in better detail in just a second It is like, you know, at a certain point you reach your terminal velocity. So falling from, I think it's at around like four thousandteen hundred feet. So. point It really doesn't matter. I mean, I feel like if you're falling from like you're re entering the atmosphere, there's a possibility of like, sure, burning to death. Right. But in terms of just hitting the ground It actually doesn't really matter. likeike the increase in height doesn't change. once you reach that fourteen hundred foot threshold What the outcome is when you hit the ground. Right, right. Still though, four thousand feet It's insane. It fact that she was even able to mumble any you know, substance at all is which is amazing, right While Victoria doesn't remember the crash itself, only pulling her shouts and believing that they had become too tangled to deploy properly in her kit. And while Victoria did sustain life threatening injuries, including a broken pelvis and spine She was expected to make a full Physical recovery How crazy is that Within three weeks Voria was walking again with crutches though she's still to wear a full body brace. But just how is that even possible Toria's Fall is actually far from the greatest height anyone has fallen from and lived to tell about it in nineteen seventy two flight attendant Vestna Bolvik survived a thirty three thousand three hundred and thirty three foot dropped after she was thrown from a DC nine passenger plane. However Vestna spent several months paralyzed and suffered from amnesia Eventually she would regain the ability to walk, although with a limp and live to be sixty six years old. And as Ian was kind of just saying, the height from which a person falls won't make a difference to their speed when we're talking about these big falls The human body in freefall reaches ninety nine percent of its terminal velocity after dropping eighteen hundred and eighty feet. In fact, the largest detriments of whether you'll survive depend on where you land and how much you weigh. James Ble fell six thousand feet above Russia landing in snow and survived Michael Holmes fell two miles before having the good luck to land in a blackberry bush pushing his fall just enough to allow him to survive And in Victoria's case a freshly plowed field and her small frame both attributed to her insane survival story. But still Even then, it is incredibly lucky to survive a fall at terminal velocity I mean, talk about an absolutely incredible miracle and just happened that the field had been freshly cut. so I assume there was a bit of cushion from you know, all the leftovers there. It made the ground a little little softer. Unbelievable. and You know, this was an insane unheard of accident How would a meal respond to it? Well, apparently a meal was cool calm and collected. I mean, did we really expect anything anything other than that responding only Thanks, I'll go down and see her Hello Your wife almost just died. Yeah She fell out of a fucking plane And you're like, all right, sound's good I'll come down say, what's Apparently, while she recovered in the hospital, Emil barely visited her and even texted his various mistresses while in the same room with Victoria. once even texted a sex worker asking if she had time for Bear back sex once he was done in the hospital and asking if he could film it Bro This guy is Honestly, one of the worst dudes I feel like we've ever talked about The key doesn't give off but about anything? No notot at all Also the like you could have been a little bit better of an actor, you idiot. If you get a call and you're like, yeah, your wife just fell out of the sky and she's going to the hospital. you think you'd be like, holy shit Why? What happened? What failed You know, instead of just being like, oh, okay, you look really suss and not asking any sort of follow up questions Especially when you know they're going they're going to figure out what happened with her parachute pack And your involvement with that that you would try to sell it a little bit more, but he's He's he's too concerned about his bare backack sex. Yeah. I mean, he's he only thinks with his penis at this point But Emil had even taken Victoria's card while she was in intensive care and spent the money on himself Torory was still in the hospital. He was texting Stephanie And back at the parachute field, Mark inspected Victoria's kit. He discovered that both the mainline was knotted and the slinks were removed which is an incredibly important piece that ensures safe deployment How was this possible This particular kit had been inspected sixteen times over its lifetime, most recently two months before Easter Sunday. In each time the slinks were intact onlyn be removed intentionally by someone with intimate knowledge of parachute kits And it was at this point that Mark said, I think we should get the police involved because I think he's like no one here would have done this. This is clearly somebody attempting to hurt someone else. by altering their parachute kit. So detective Inspector Paul Franklin, detective Constable Matdie Henna. and detective Sergeant Mark Lewis were the investigators initially put on the case Though at first, they didn't believe they were investigating a murder attempt. They sent an officer to the hospital to interview Victoria, while an investigator took another look at her parachute Paul said, quote, We thought they'd come back with some mechanical reason. Very sad, very sorry, but nothing wrong here. It bumbled along for a couple of days. DC Henna even considered that this could have been a suicide attempt Toria's own interviews with police, she was described as cold a matter of fact without casting suspicion towards anyone And according to her There was nothing to suggest anyone had sabotaged her parachute. However, just then they received a phone call from one of Victoria's friends. This friend said that not only had her marriage grown toxic, but that Emil was coercively controlling Victoria to a level considered domestic abuse And when the investigator agreed with Mark's findings that the parachute had to have been sabotaged, all eyes were on Good o Mr. Emil But still, without fingerprints on the farachute, they simply couldn't convict him on a tip off from one of Victoria's friends According to this friend, if Emil were anywhere near the parachute, there would be concern about sabotage Marark had seen Emil take the parachute to the bathroom with Victoria, and investigators believed they had enough evidence to arrest Emil on suspicion and bring him in for interrogation. So on april twenty eighth, twenty fifteen, Detective Hennaah arrested Emil at his barracks in Aldershot on two counts of attempted murder And Emil didn't object, didn't react at all, and didn't even ask for a lawyer She described that Emil didn't react all literally had No reaction to this. Basically the same reaction that he had to finding out his wife almost fllt to her death Yeah, and I wonder if it's like, He just is trying to come across as clueless like Oh I don't know.. Boy trying to play dumb a little bit, but Yeah I don'' dumb. Yeah. Emil immediately admitted to his affair with Stephanie, Carly, and regular rendezvous with sex workers, explaining, I've got a high sex drive. Victoria, or he calls her Vicki He Well, she's got a low sex drive. Yeah, that's a good reason to go ahead and cheat on her with multiple other people He also confessed to numerous payday loans and debts to friends in Victoria. You deserve Emil also volunteered the fact that he had gone to the toilets for a long time with Victoriaious Pack as well as emphasized his debts To Detective Henna, he offered both his motive and his means of sabotage in a roundabout way, demonstrating his confidence in his innocence Detective Hennnaes said he was very clever. He covered all the points he knew we would discover by looking at his phone He assumed we were going to accept what he was saying and that he'd never see us again Detective Hannah even said that Emil tried to come ono her during the interrogation The only time that a suspect had ever tried to do that with her. What the fuck is this guy doing Detective Hennna said that he made her feel extremely uncomfortable And detective Paul said that from there on, she was never to be alone with him At the end of the interview, detective Hannah asked if he had anything else to say and he responded The worst part about today was that you arrested me in front of my subordinates. Not mentioning Victoria at all Detective Franklin said he displays all the traits of a psychopath Psychopath, sociopath, narcissist, extreme selfishness. He only cares about himself Yeah, facts Investigators released him after a six hour interrogation, but banned him from going home to Victoria and the children as part of his bail conditions, which I'm really glad that they did rin knows what he would have done. And detective Franklin was the one who told Victoria why Emil was banned from seeing her. And when she learned the truth about her husband's affairs, she let out a quote heart wrenching, guttural howl She said, You can't do that because I physically need him, as Emil helped with everything in the house while she recovered And as a result of this response, investigators came to Victoria in person as they delivered the news of his affair They also explained that his barracks room contained no photos of her and her family and that he had been denying paternity of their newborn child Before leaving, investigators asked Victoria if there was anything else she'd like to add Not expecting a response, Victoria said, Before you go, I suppose you should know about the gas leak And this stunned investigators, as Victoria said, this completely out of the blue And that made them wonder could Emil have tried to murder Victoria earlier in the week as well? It was soon discovered that Emil had a different phone, computer and basically a whole different life all used to facilitate his infidelity However, it would take nearly two years for the case to go to trial In the interim, investigators poured over Emil's digital evidence, including nearly thirty two thousand messages exchanged with Stephanie Alone, as well as fifty thousand messages and internet searches with other women, sex workers, and more incriminating information This is a straight psychopath Horrible, justust a horrible human being Unbelievable He's talking to other women more than he talks to his own wifeife. Yeah clearly or spends time with her And he' and he's got her under his spell. while he's spending her money It a horribly fucked up situation The night before the parachute sabotage, Emil had been searching for wet nurses, demonstrating that Emil plann for Victoria to be absent from child carere very soon. Emil claimed that they had looked into wet nurses after her injury, but never before During an additional interview in which his digital history was accessed, Emil started crying while discussing his inability to be with Stephanie However, he remained cold and emotionless as he discussed, Victoria So then a psychologist took a look at Emil's behavior and messages and believed he was the top level narcissist psychopath who would get rid of people when they lost their usefulness. Canould we just make fun of the fact that he's a caby cry baby bitch boy over here? don't look at my history. And this is a tactic that he used over the years with Nicoine with Victoria, whenever he fucked up, he'd he'd literally start crying. real tears or crocodile tears to try to get sympathy from You know, these women are putting up with this bullshit in order to get back in their good graces. I mean, just I just want to say He's a cry baby bitch. Yeah, except for when his wife falls out of a fucking plane that tears that he doesn't give a shit orr when he's getting arrested and charged. He's like, ah Still, it would take nearly two years for the case to go to trial At time, as Victoria recovered from her injuries, she still spoke with Emil despite him being barred from doing so, and unfortunately, she'd end up changing her story Yeah, this was a huge, huge deal that investigators did not see coming. Emil's trial began in october twenty seventeen. He had no friends or family in court for support No character witnesses to challenge the prosecution's depiction of him and his fellow soldiers in the army refused to comment on him. The prosecution presented a highly detailed case to the jury, evenven recreating how Emil could have sabotaged the parachute pack in that bathroom stall by placing it on top of the diaper changing station and taking the jurors to the airfield to show them the field that it enabled Victoria's survival However, despite presenting their evidence, the prosecution knew what they had was largely circumstantial and still needed some direct evidence to prove that Emil was guilty of both the gas leeakue attempted murder and the parachute sabotage. and for that they need Victoria's testimony However, they were stunned when Victoria got on the stand and largely changed her story. Now she was saying Emil was only in the bathroom of the pack for a couple of minutes, which was much shorter than the time the prosecution had used in their demonstration She even said that it wasn't odd that Emile had taken their daughter into the men's bathroom and that he may have forgotten the parachute had been on his back which was the opposite of what she had said during police interviews She also stated that she had cut away a good parachute. Tori explained the chain in the story by saying she was very aware everything was considered I didn't want to directly incriminate Mil because I had to live with the outcome She explained that during those initial interviews, she was angry and hurt by Em meil and over exaggerated things. Here's a news report about that moment in the trial She told the court, I expanded on the truth Prosecutor Michael Bes asked her Did you want to frame your husband At that point, I wanted him to suffer, she said. Michael BowosesQC told her If it was a lie, you're saying you were trying to frame your husband I'm saying I wanted to cast suspicion I wanted revenge, she replied Victoria Silius told police that after finding out her husband was having an affair, she painted him in a bad light She told officers, The red mist came down. I was gunning for him I laid it on to paint a bad picture. This was, I mean, this was crippling for the prosecution's case. I mean, they They had gotten the real version of Vents, which did but then she's walking it back saying, I exaggerate it, you know, I wanted revenge for all of the things that he did to me and whichich really just completely minimizes this whole murder case alogether. And why is she doing that I think she's been so manipulated by him for so long and I think also she's probably scared of him and you know, everything that he's already done to her. Yeah, don' I don't know it'ss it's so sad that she felt the need to do that Yeah, I mean, she still obviously hasn't broken free from his control and manipulation at this point and Yeah, I think I think she's definitely feeling her securities a jeopardy, which is interesting that you know, and I feel like they may may have They should have done more to maybe perhaps make her feel safer. Yeah after investigators kind of get to this point we're like, yeah, he' tried to murder her two times. So we need to make sure she feels very safe so that when she does inevitably go on the witness stand that She doesn't feel, you know, intimidated by him and you know, maybe feel like he's still a threat. But And obviously this change in events didn't make sense to many people, including Detective Henna who said that even from jail A mle still practice coercive control over Victoria. She said it was the worst case of course of control that she had ever come across Toria had even been asking investigators to just quote unquote, drop the case as she wanted it all to go back to how it was. I think there's also something to be said about You know, I think a lot of people in this hearing this would be like, what the hell? Why wouldn't why would she want that? Why would she be asking for that? But You know, even if you're in a toxic an abusive relationship There's a piece of that that is comforting because it's familiar And humans naturally like familiarity and they try to avoid the unknown And so a lot of people stay in toxic relationships or choose to continue having toxic behavior or whatever it may be because of the fact that it is familiar and that provides some level of comfort even if it's veryer abusive Yeah, and and To add on to that, she's still recovering from these very serious injuries. She's got two small kids and Emil was physically supporting the household. And so just the thought of not having that support was also probably scary to. Absolutely. How do I, you know place that help I was getting And as a result of Victoria's testimony, the trial resulted in a hung jury And a new trial was ordered for may twenty eighteen, only this time the prosecution couldn't rely on Victoria This time, they relied on Emil's own words They displayed all thirty two thousand messages with Stephanie to the jury in addition to messages at meal exchange with a sex worker while Victoria was still in the hospital They also provided a new recreation to the jury, proving that someone could still sabotage the parachute kit in the restroom in under five minutes And Amil's deeanor during the trial didn't help either. He was even observed hitting on one of the female defendants from another case. This guy just doesn't stop And still, Victoria believed him and even said she was afraid of being sucked back in Luckily, this new case was enough for the jury to reach a unanimous verdict. Ccause Emil Silliers was found guilty on every count and given a life sentence with a minimum time served of eighteen years in prison The prosecution felt relieved and overjoyed, however, Victoria was still saddened by the decision. No matter what Emil did to her, he still had her under his spell In an interview in twenty eighteen, Victoria still had issues accepting the truth saying I'm still pretty stunned. It's such a massive thing to accept that he might have wanted to kill me to harm the children I love the husband I had. I'm grieving for that marriage Oh, I mean, I get it. It's just it's so I mean, just to even wrap your head around all like you think you know this person and then to hear that He was plotting you know, multiple murder attempts and went through all of this trouble to set this up to have her die in that skydiving fall. It's just it's hard to process, I mean, It's just I don't know, I can't even imagine. Victoria remained loyal to Emil at first and believed in was innocent. She even went to visit him in prison after the guilty verdict and he tried to convince her to get back together However, as time went on things started slotting into place. When she looked back on the marriage, she said I have started seeing it all This person and what they've done to me, I don't know how you can do that to someone whom you loved and had children with And I think Sometimes this does that. It gives you perspective and also separation, right? He's physically separated' in prison now And so she probably had a lot of time to start really going over everything that happened in the relationship and all the events that had led to her almost death. And during one call to Emil in prison, she requested a divorce and she said this felt ree And in twenty eighteen, Victoria took. to the skies again completing a two mile jump. However, the psychological scars of what had happened still took hold She said it took me right back to the last flight when I had a sixth sense that I should not be jumping And when I landed, I felt the most incredible sense of relief and relief She was greeted on the ground by her children and members of the skydiving community, which I can imagine was a very, very healing moment for her She said I could feel the love and goodwill rising to meet me Tori's twenty memoir, she revealed that she had found a new love. A skydiving enthusiast named Simon Goodman The couple moved in together during the pandemic and she said, We lived in our own little bubble. It was good. He's been my rock throughout the whole COVID thing The children love and respect him and they're always excited to see him However, as of the last update, Emil has refused to give Victoria a divorce After months of working with her solicitor, the divorce was eventually granted Here's a clip of Victoria explaining that situation. When you were visiting him in prison and youd bring in divorce papers, he actually says to you, Oh, no, no. Our marriage isn't over There's still a future Yes, and he wrote to my solicitor essentially saying that And it's taken eighteen months of fighting between my solicitor and hit to get to we got a deree Nice last week We talk a lot on this show, Victoria about coercive control, and it's something that hadn't been recognized before Do you believe that that was what had happened to you with E meal from When you very first met him, you had a whirlwind romance to him trying to kill you Do you think there was an element of control there Yes, completely And actually writing the book made it a lot more obvious because you're in chronological order, you're going through the issues or the The concerns or little niggles at the back of my mind Actually it all starts making sense. Yeahes, slowly and gradually I was being manipulated and abused mentally. I think when you're in it, it's hard to really see what's happening. You're so clouded, but when you have separation from this person in this toxic situation you know, that that separation that time allows you to think more clearly, see more clearly and reflect on what you had been through Um And it sounds like that's, you know, exactly what with Victoria And I think too, it just gets further enhanced when you actually meet somebody who shows you what a healthy loving relationship should really be like And I can imagine it just, you know, sort of all those things became even more unlocked and easier for her to process the past knowing Okay, wow. that was not a true loving supportive relationship at all. and, you know, Simon is you know, showing me that is really like. And she even said But I think I'm still open to loving again and existence without love would be sad. It's just that I'm not going into it with rose tinted spectacles this time. So I think, you know, her eyes are are open and she knows you know, after going through you know, the worst possible experience one could go through with a partner or spouse and It's just, yeah, as Janelle said, it's hard to know when you're in it and it takes time and you know, someone else to show you, you know, what what a real relationship is supposed to be like. That's actually loving But a meal This motherfucker is in prison, where he should be Uh, you know, I think sounds like He'll be possibly for release in twenty thirty six. That's extremely concerning to me. whichich that doesn't seem like long enough. And that's what bothers me about life sentences in other countries is that they're not really life sentences. Well, I also just don't think that he's the type to be rehabbed. This guy is such a bad evil person that I think if he were to come out, he would probably do this again to someone else. Like I don't think he has any remorse and
