So if you're just waking up, man , the biggest comeback in NBA finals history happened last night . I watched a little bit of the game. I'm like, well, this is this is ridiculous. This ain't going nowhere. I'm just going to go to sleep. They were the New York Knicks were down by twenty nine points. That seems like yeah, they're never going to come and no way to come back. Holy hell , they come back one second left . It was a missed shot actually. ANOBIN Congratulations to him and his tip. He tips it in and just perfect tip in and all of New York goes absolutely bonkers. They win by one point . What a what a fairy tale story that is. I mean , you know, after the last loss with, you know, everyone, you know, people want to blame what they want to blame, you know for last time . And then now the president's out there and they win by one point in the last second . I mean, it really is sort of like this has been it seems like a soap opera that has been written out beforehand. No, that's not at all. That's what it seems like . No, the credit goes to one place and one place only this is the only thing that New York and the city of New York could have done to combat the unintended guests of game three. Yeah . Did you guys pick up on who was performing at halftime. Halftime was Wu Tang. Wu Tang Klan. They talked to one of those guys . They brought out the heavy artillery and had Wu Tang Klan perform at half time. Do you know what song they performed? What did they sing? Cream and the iconic classic protectual neck . Is that what they did? They play they would perform protect your neck and that's what the Nicks did last night. So yeah, so yeah, I saw Wu Tang was there. I saw Taylor Swift was there. That was seemed like they were more performing with Wu Tang that would be crazy, right? That her song were never getting Back together is actually about Wu Tang. We don't know that. No, she was the all the celebrities. It was more it seemed like it was more and this is what they've been saying. So the game three , that the celebrity row was jammed packed with hedge fund guys and and like you know all these billionaire dudes and they didn't really see a lot of New York centr ic fans. You saw the standard guys like Adam Sandler and everything. Yeah, but Game four seemed to have more celebrity power there. There were a couple more a couple extra at game four. I did watch the pre game with I do love the pre grand I do love watching Shaq and Charles Barclay get into it and Ernie and I tell you right now you want to see one of the most iconic like post game just a ripping and we were talking about this. Look up Charles Barkley, what he had to say about the Spurs. I'll play for Moscow. Yeah, we'll play for Moscow. We play a little bit later on, but the pre in the pre game they had they did they interviewed Ben Stiller who that was the best interview I've seen with Ben Stiller. Every interview I've seen before he seems so kind of like with no sense of humor and kind of stoic and kind of he was obviously in a really great mood and all the guys were kind of goofing with him and stuff and that was a really good interview. And then they interviewed John McNroe and classic New York guy. Yeah, classic New York guy. And he was funny actually. Like so the pre game was great and Chica and Neil and Charles Barclay when they start arguing, I mean, it's just, I mean, you know, it's just funny. I mean, it just really is funny. And you kind of think, oh man, maybe they really don't like each other, but no, they do. It's just they're just busting balls . But yeah, I think and we'll talk about this a little bit later on that yeah, Charles Barkley, I think he wants to get fired because he does. He really does. No, he said, he was on Dan Patrick and he straight up told him is like he's got six or seven years. He went over it with his like this is the kind of people you need representing you in contracts or whatever because so his guy told his attorney or you know his agent basically tells him yeah it doesn't matter what happens what whatever they fire you for they're going to have to hon or the contract and you're getting paid for the next six, seven years. That's great. So he can he can act as foolish as he wants to. Hope they hope they fire him but if he does something that is out of line though , like way out of line then the contract I don't again I'm just going off of what he was talking about and he basically said he's like I talk to my agent and doesn't matter what they fire me for they have to honor my , you know, six or six or seven years. They might there might be a morality clause in there and he's probably not taking that into consideration. I think he's probably just taught thinking about what he says on the air right because they were getting at him about the Cardi Boe. Yeah, he made a joke about C arter B. And her tees. Yeah . And what? And her D. and he's like, I hope they're farming . It was pretty it was it was but anyway, but anyway, I watched the pre show. I was watching to see who's going to sing the national anthem this time, but they must have the same guy sing it all the time for good luck, right? Like that guy must sing the national anthem in New York all the time because it was the same guy two times in a row. Yeah, I think he does Amy. Yeah, yeah. He's great Great, you know, great national anthem. But yeah, man, I got started. It's like, oh that okay, well Nick's going to lose this down by twenty nine. I mean that seems like it's almost impossible. Yeah. If you've watched the Knicks though throughout the season, one of the things that they've been credited for they're they're not adverse from coming from behind. Yeah, like there was if you look back and watch it . There's no point there where in the last two minutes where seemed stressed out, even when they were getting their butts handed to them in the first half, you know, they were you could see there was frustration but there wasn't pressing there in the last two minutes, three minutes because the spurs are so young , you could tell that there was a difference in in being ready for that or being ready for the moment, you know? Yeah. Hey, what's the guy's name that did the tip in? OG, OG and ANOBI. Okay, it's so they said I was watching this morning like he's known for like not getting excited. He doesn't really do that . Cool as a cucumber interview. I'm like, What do you think you just won one of the biggest games in NBA history? What they did? He goes, I'm very, very excited. And then everybody started laughing and he actually cracked a smile. He's like, you know, I'm excited but we got one more game to win. They got one more game to win and they were not expected to win. Everyone was saying, Oh, the West is so much better than the East and Spurs are going to leave that. I know I was on the record of saying that. I thought I thought I thought the Spurs were going I thought the winner of the NBA finals was going to come out of the west. I did . You're not the only a lot of people said that , you know, and all they got to do is win one more of the next three and they will be the NBA Champions and I and New York's going to go crazy. Yeah, New York's already going crazy. There's a villain here man. I do not want them to win at all. Look at this of course . No, I don't. Here's video of them just destroying stuff after they won last night. Not even the series, not even one it Okay, Ryan, that's a handful of knuckleheads. Here's another video of them throwing stuff at Wemby as he tries to like just enter ing. Yeah, they do get yeah, here's a video of them trying to light a spurs fan on fire not every nicks fan. Those are some nice every nicks fan but like they 're not police as well I will say this everybody last night on the pre show everyone was saying hey this does not represent Nick fans don't really tell it this fully represents Nick fans just in the same way Philly fans are represented accurately. I don't I don't believe that. It's a handful of knuckleheads that are going to be just like I think it was one of one of the there's that you got Shack, you got Ernie . What's the other guy? I forget the Raymond? Yeah, yeah, we were say listen . These guys are going to act like you know jackasses no matter what it is, you know, they're just using this excuse to act like a jackass. They're not the real Nick fans. So that they are the real Nick fans. Let's be real. You're going to be mad at all the Nick fans for a handful , let's say fifty for fifty, let's say there's fifty two A holes, right? There are thousands of Nick fans forty two A holes. I'm literally looking at a video of hundreds of people doing this, being arrested. There's multiple arrests after this. And this isn't even after their full on win. This is after just a game for win. You still got another one to do. I'm sorry, but I can judge certain fan bases. Certain fan bases just have a stigma to them. Buffalo Bills fans with the Bills Mafia. They're a little bit wilder but not that crazy, right? But Philly fans , that town literally burns itself down when they win. New York seems to be the same kind of douchebag. Yeah , I don't for me it's fun to watch the people who are having a great time they're you know, they're getting their their their first win in what fifty some odd years Last years have done that without going around destroying things and trying to light other fans on fire . Right? Like, you know, the Arizona Cardinals win. You don't see that happen. You could dampen anything, can't you? Dampening , you can't just ignore facts that are happening . Those a holes that are doing that are definitely should be arrested. They're bad people. Well, that doesn't mean all Nick fans are bad people because you got a handful . This needs to be nipped in the bud now because they haven't been in the championship since nineteen ninety nine, right? Philly became a town where this has become acceptable where they grease the light poles where they're like they're like that's just part of the culture I'm going to have me a wooter like New York you can you have the chance now to bite this in the butt now before it gets out of control because what would you have to do? I would say what Mundami did where he cancelled a watch party honestly, what a great move now and and being like, hey, if you're going to act like children , we're gonna have to treat you guys like children as well because you can't have this in a quote unquote, America shining shitty. You know what I mean? Orlando Magic doesn't do that. Yeah, we don't win town. This town wouldn't burn itself down if Orlando made it to the playoffs though. Yeah, you can't tell me where vibe exists here not the size of New York. New York's huge and you have a handful of compared to the millions of people that are in New York, you got a hand ful of people that are jackasses. And guess what? Those same people are going to be jackasses about something else. They're just, they just happen to be it gives them a reason to be extradition just let them be jackass. Oh , what's your saying? No, no, no, that's not what I'm saying. I wouldn't let it just for me. I wouldn't let him take away the the fun of watching this team go against adversity, go against the odds and and be like a Cinderella team and the enjoyment of watching all these people have a great time that their team is actually making it just because there's a handful of people. You want to ruin all the fun of you ever heard a one bad apple ruins the bunch? If there's like a full bad apple don't ruin a whole bunch girl. They don't ruin a whole bunch. It's when Bad Apple ruins the bunch, whatever weird song you're in. When the Osmond sing it ain't can't argue with the Osmonds. I don't know what the time. You don't know that song? No, I'm not a hundred. sorry. Well, I am, and I know the song. And it's one bad apple. Don't ruin the whole bunch girl. That's not phrase got it wrong. The literal phrase is one bad apple ruin the whole bunch. That's the whole point of the apple phrase and in the big apple, one apple ruins the whole bunch. I'm sorry if you have a big sports team, Cinderella comeback, but there's a violent mob at any point. I would say that ruins the vibe. So if the Orlando Magic won and there was a hand ful of knuckleheads from, you know, one street or whatever that do something horrible, you'd be like, all magic fans are terrible. We've had that. We've had that with Orlando . I know we did. Orlando city fans. Yeah, yeah. So you can't say no we have not it happens everywhere . Are you saying that we haven't had issues with Orlando City Fan , the fan groups and post games getting into fights near to fight each other? No, no. That's the weirder part about Orlando City Rucky. It doesn't fight like there was an issue in firm. There was an issue with the Miami fan fan group that came up here. They've gotten into it, but that okay. Let me throw this out there as well. Soccer has a history of hooligan. Oh see, yeah What I would agree with is this is that if New York wants to take a handle this then again because New York is the most surveilled city in all of the United States of America, they got cameras on everyw here, then you make sure you know where these guys are at. You make sure you grab them, you make sure you put them on TV, you make sure that you let your citizens know and let concerned citizens outside of the state of New York and Manhattan know that they're being policed so you can feel assured that New York is doing the best that they can. And I know in the post games show, when they talk to John McNroe, when they talk to Ben Stiller, when they talked to, you know, other people from New York, all of them one of the first things they said was, hey, don't do that. This is not this is not New York Nick fans with we do not , you know , we do not want to be seen this way. That's horrible. They all mentioned it and denounced it. And what else can they do? You know, there's look you got millions of people and guess what? A millions of people there are some dumb asses and but it doesn't mean all the fans are that way . My overall point is New York is the villain in this series and they continue to show wide. Well, I'm having fun watching them go against all odds and it's Cinderella Story and I are Cinderella Story? Because they were not expected to win, bro. They were not expected to win. They were Cinderella Story would be like a last place team winning. No, Cinderella really what that is everybody had already counted them out. They were the from the East. They had no chance the West was going to kill them and and and they've been they haven't been to the finals and won the finals in fifty three years . Why do you like Cinderella stories so much? Is it because it's about feet at most of it? No, it's like a rocky story. When people don't expect you to win, they count you out, they don't think you're gonna do something and then you do it, I think that's cool. I like that. I like those stories and it got counted out. They were top seed team. No, they were counted out before this. Everybody was saying they don't have a chance. The west the West is so much better. You were even saying that they hadn't have a chance. You were you were like, you know, the West is going to win for sure. But I did think the West is going to win, but I also thought it was going to be Oklahoma Sergey Thunder. The Spurs definitely surprised me. But the Nick still had definitely had a chance. , one more game and they loved the magic was gonna win it all disappointing. Yeah. All right, take a break. Don't go anywhere. You're listening to the march in the morning . This july fourth come celebrate at America's Block Party, hosted by America two hundred fifty. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter , the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project Hail Mary Massive Sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make the decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections and it's like okay yo yo yo is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no, at this point it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotionally affected me and I left it on the mic. That's great it served the story. People will say like, Oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, too. Listen to Earthe, the audible and I Heart Audiobook Club. On the IHAT radio app or wherever you get your podcasts . Let's talk about modern home shopping. That's redfinn dot com ics, the Lakers , Chicago , Boston, the magic are involved just because of this kind of drama. Correct so yeah so I know people are with Ryan you know, I know I would be either at Kia Center or watching it at any watch party where the land of magic as soon as the Orlando Magic made if we all would we all would be super excited but I mean it's going to look like it took the well to win it's taking the next fifty three years is that what they're saying? So how long is it going to take the magic to get to the finals again? We're in. I mean, you know, Nick 's here. New York's tried a lot whatever. Yeah. Nicks are in or Norland magic are in Nicks here. Hey, did you guys get of course I live out in Winter Haven now. We got a lot of rain. Thank goodness . My pool actually you know bubbled over, you know, it was too full . Did you guys get that much rain here? All I the native Americ ans had a rain dance. Yeah . The aboriginal people have their digerie doos to call upon the rain. Yeah. How Ryan calls the rain is, he fills up his pool with his hose for two hours and then the rain comes. That's all that ever has to happen because it's happened twice now in the last month. Yeah, really. Yeah, it did. Like I should honestly, this is on me. I should check the radar before I do this, but yeah, I'll fill up my pool for about two hours and then a big ass storm comes through and I'm like, cool. We had reports all day yesterday. The weather they're wrong But the weather has been wrong a lot predicted rain at least at my house so many times they're like, well, it didn't rain at all. So I can't trust them. I don't know. Okay, hold on a second . What I'm saying is if you're listening to weather report here and you live an hour away, that's probably where the discrepancy is. No, it's Amanda Holly in the , which you guys don't know who she is, but Amanda Holly where I watch in the in Winter Haven and they're like yeah it's gonna rain today and it doesn't rain but again but you're getting Tampa news and I bet you Amanda's talking about Tampa like general area and it's not going all the way out to winter habits. That's what they got different weather there because once the once the Gulf Breeze meets the Tampa Meth cloud it has different weather over there right but it was great to see some and I hope it just keeps going and going because like I say the lakes are just so so low that people are running into now they're running into you know the problem is with all the lakes there's a whole big chain of lakes I guess for whatever reason the homel ess people will get shopping carts and so they don't get caught. They'll throw the shopping carts into the water and then boats hit the shopping carts. That's a that's a thing there. There was another report yesterday look out there's a shopping cart over by this particular lake at this you know and and you know some people don't want to jump in and get the shopping cards. So they just leave them there and they put reports on on Facebook so that was that was a thing and then yes also, yesterday I, did work out. I went worked out with Poppy D. I am feeling better about my workout situation. Remember when I the first day I had to go I bitched about it and complained and everything. Now I'm like, okay, I'm kind of looking forward to it. That's going good, going better. So that had that I going on . Then I went home and I'm interested if you've seen this yet Angel because it's right up your alley . It's another thing and Quest Love is now just doing these documentaries and he any won like he won Academy Awards for his documentaries? Yeah for the last one he did. Is it Academy Awards or is it Emmys? Probably Academy Award. Yeah , they're documentary, so they're movies. Okay, so anyway, his newest one is about Earth Wind and Fire. Now I will tell you what, I don't know, I didn't know a whole lot about Earth Wind and Fire. I know that every time one of their songs came on, I liked them. I'm like, I like that. These are pretty good. And I remember back in the day they were considered one of the best bands, you know, like live band s for, you know, RMB or whatever . I look the funk too phonk. Yeah, and guess guess who was inspired by Earthwind and Fire at their concerts going God I don't I don't know if I can do this Mich.ael J ackson, Prince They're the Prince They're the Precursors Steve Wonder These guys actually started all that kind of stuff and these other acts were like, man, I don't know if we can do this, man . But it's the first part I didn't find as interesting I started to fall asleep a little bit. But then once they got into the band in like nineteen seventy six where they were where they were really performing and stuff, it was pretty interesting and their music , I mean I had forgotten how many great songs Earthwind and Fire had, but you know , dude, they're I mean the cheek code with them is there's a couple of and I'm not a huge proponent of best of albums but there's a couple of their best of albums that it's just it's straight up the cheek code to Earth Wind and Fire where it's just a banger after a banger after banger. Oh yeah and Maryllen looked at you well this weekend on the boat if we go out of the boat which you probably won't, but we gotta listen to Earth Wind and Fire because all those songs were great and and a lot of them , but just like every band man, there was infighting. The lead guy was, you know , he was problematic There's all kinds of drama to go along with it. So if you are just a little bit interested in that kind of music and you don't know much about it it was interesting. I've always had that or I have it on deck I didn'.t realize it had already dropped. I thought it was dropping actually this weekend. So yeah, it's an HBO. HBO yeah Quest Love and you can hear Quest Love interviewing the guys , you know, everybody in the band that's still alive and And pretty interesting but yeah, the lead the lead guy, the guy that pretty much was Earthwind and not well liked and he was , you know , he was a you know, he's a controlling guy and all the stuff that you know a lot of I'm sure it's difficult when you have an ensemble like that. I think that's one of those bands where at its height, they probably had like twelve, fifteen guys in the band. There was a bunch of guys in the band and one day he calls them in and he's like, Hey, guys, I think it's over.. I'm done I'm gonna do my own thing. And they're all fired. And one guy was like, I'm like, I couldn't pay my credit card bills because he was spending more money. Like they would do these big stage shows. Yeah. And he would and they had these big tours and then they when'd be done with the tour, they'd still owe a million dollars, like they weren't making money. But he wanted it a certain way, and he was willing to spend more to make it look like huge. That's how Philip Bailey ends up becoming famous is what's the song? He had easy lover Phil Collins and that helps that help propelled his solo career. Yeah, you know, I think they when he broke up, Philip Bailey went to and started to work with Phil Collins and so the lead singer guy what's worse white, he his solo thing wasn't successful not at all but Philip Bailey's was. So then they had to get the band back together and it was a whole drama thing but, it's pretty interesting. I thought that they've come to SeaWorld a couple times when they do that the summer concert series. They're still, I mean, it's still good fun songs to listen to. Yeah, they're still performing. You know who's in this is Barack and Michelle Obama because that was like their favorite beat when they were kids and stuff and that was pretty interesting. So anyway if you have any interest in Earth wind and fire or even that kind of music I didn't really know a lot about them. I found it interesting . And it's by Quest Love. It's a documentary and it's pretty earthwind to fire, but it was pretty good. Pretty good. Yeah, you like all the Quest Love pan. How many has he done now? I think about four that I can recall. I know he did the summer what was it the summer of Seoul? Right , which was the concert that was programmed opposite of the moon landing. Yeah. And then there's the one that he did was about Slice Sun Slim and then this one. But I think there's another one or two in there that I that I've missed. Yeah. Well, he go down. He did one about the Saturn Live, the music there. That's right. He did. So will he go to will he'll be remembered more as a director now? Probably more than a musician you think, Quest Love? Oh no , no, no, you it's all just about lane's where you where you drop in on Quest Love's career because he's also a very accomplished author and I've got like two or three of his books as well. He's well respected. Yeah, so but for me, Quest Love is always going to be the drummer for the roots. Okay , always he going' tos be an incredible DJ as well. That's that's my like the lane that I come in with Quest Love that that he also is a great filmmaker and a great author, but I still see him . he L'ikes like he's the hip hop drummer for everybody. Like JZ just did the picnic out there in Philly and it was the roots in Quest Love on stage back in JZ. They called Travis Barker the White Quest Love love People say hey, Russ work can you watch the documentary? It's an HBO. It's on HBO. That's out now . I mean, I just enjoyed it because I enjoy the history of music. And I also enjoy watching how a band, a bunch of people who are artistic how they stay together and what they argue about and all that kind of stuff. I you know, I kind of relate it to what you do here and and you could see the arguments amongst the the band members and they didn't he didn't pay them. All they made was two thousand five hundred dollars a week is all they made that whole time that they were in that band and he's spending millions. And he's spending millions and I'm sure he's driving the dopest cars and has the nicest house . He lost it all. Yeah. He lost it all. And so when they were forced to get back together , they're like, okay fine, you know, him and Philip Philip Bailey got along and Philip Bailey's like, listen, I won't work for you, but I will work with you and we'll get the band back together, Earth went and fire and first concert , they did the thing where they lift him up out of the stage and they come up and he's like, Oh my God, there's only four people here. They were used to playing stadiums. Yeah, they were used to playing these huge stadiums and everyone had forgotten about them. Nobody cared anymore. And so they had to kind of fight their way back and and play all these small, small venues. And then they finally fought back to playing stadiums again. We're playing taxi rush they're saying that they're coming th Ear Wooden Fire is going to be here in Orlando at the Kia Center. But it's without Marias White, right? Like he's not there. He's dead, isn't he? No, he's got Parkinson's. I don't know if he passed. I don't know, yeah. He's got Parkinson's disease. So I don't know that he can perform anymore. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But they had like they talked to him. His white died in twenty sixteen. Oh, he did die. Yeah. Okay. So they okay, okay, maybe that was covered in there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was covered in there. I'm sorry. I know they talked to like three of his kids and he had kids with like three different people and you know he was not he wasn't a great dad.
