You switch to Nintendo Voice chat for the week of june sixteenth, twenty twenty six. I'm your host Lo ogan Plant, jined by Brian Antono . Hey. And Seth Macy. What's shaken milk? I didn't think that one out. I didn't think that one through. I'm sorry. Yeah, we're all still in the post again. Post summer game fest post IGN live hangover. We're here a bit early this week because of the holiday weekend coming up this weekend. We just can't wait to talk to you more about the Ocarina of Time remake. We had a really fun live show immediately after the direct a week ago , Brian and Seth weren't on that. So I want to hear their first impressions of Zelda Ocarina of Time after I show you this the best mug I've ever owned the Nintendo Wii mug U from the Nintendo Museum in Japan brought to me by Nick Lamon, who went to Japan and brought it home. It's amazing. You'll see it every week on the show now. It was on display. He stole it from the Nintendo Museum. It was a historical artifact. I can't show you because it has water in it right now, but on the bottom there is a Wii U game pad logo on the bottom. I don't think people realize that gift shop is entirely centered around consoles and handhelds and not really characters unlike their other stores. Like I was just in the Nintendo store in San Francisco the other day and there's just like so much cool character stuff and then in the Nintendo Museum it's basically just like three DS the magnet . Wiu the baseball cap. Like it's cool. I dig it. I was kind of bummed that it was it was bittersweet that when I was there for a shoot they had the shop shut down. But it's just an excuse to go back. I think they have like a giant Wii remote pillow also, right? That's like the mold of Wii remote. Yeah, that's neat. I got to get over there. But right now we are going to talk about the legend of Zelda Ocarine of Time, which was the big one more thing in last week's Nintendo direct. Brian, just what do you think of those ninety second teaser for Zelda? I loved it. I was extremely happy to see this. It brought me great joy. I actually published a eleven minute op ed video about why this is so cool and why this is the perfect time for it and the TLDR on that is that like I don't know, this is this is a pretty timeless game, no pun intended. But also they've got a new movie coming out, it's gonna be a few years until we get the next Zelda game. And I think that like some people are sort of coping with the reality that we're old . That's okay. I've been battling that for a while now. And I think that seeing seeing this game come back made me very nostalgic. And I think I've also seen some people who have been very negative about the idea of this making a return. And I don't know. I sort of understand why you would be jaded about yet another remake, right? This is the second one in like two months that they revealed. It's like a late nineties and sixty four game that has come into switch two. Yeah, mostly yesterday in the same it's in the same year. Yeah, it's it's very odd. And the three DS versions also released in the same year. So it's yeah, it's very it's fascinating to see, but I don't know. I love the original game so much. I think it's one of the most important video games ever made. We all know that. And so I'm really excited to see what they do with this. And I don't, it's weird because I don't have any major expectations on whether I need this to be like a resinvil four style remake or a resin evil two style remake with it like totally you know messes with the formula a little bit but still honors the original . If this is kind of one to one with better controls, better visuals, more sort of moody atmosphere and all that. I'm cool with that too. So yeah, I'll take whatever this is, frankly. Seth, what are your first thoughts My first thoughts were I didn't want to look at the tapestry for as long as that they made us look at the tapestry because I knew what it was, but I didn't know for sure. And I just wanted to have that moment. I was like, yes, it's real. It's coming. The rumors were true because yeah , I love Acarina of Time. Ocarina of Time has a very special place in my heart because I was not a Nintendo sixty four person , missed it when it came out, came back from Operation Enduring I don't remember what it was. In Albania in nineteen ninety nine, used all the money I was unable to spend and bought an N sixty four twenty seven inch CRT and used all the comp time that I had accrued to just sit in my room in the summer in Germany and just play through this game like and loved every minute of it. And I am very excited. I think that they're going to do this one . I mean , we're going to talk about Starfox later, but like that is a one to one remake kind of because they made it so much better than I thought. And it's just like Metroid Prime, that is a one to one remake pretty much exactly. I'm okay with that. So look , listen . Okay , a lot of people are complaining, but I don't think a lot of people are actually upset. I think there's just we're hearing a lot of the same boring idiots cry about the thing that they love. So I'm excited to play this and it's going to be awesome I. think And that they're going to take it in an exciting new directions that don't completely destroy it from what it originally was. Because it is when you go back and play it, it is a little nineteen ninety nine. It's it's no way to get around that. So which I feel like they what they did on the three DS and everyone is debating whether or not that was a remake or remaster. I know it says the word remaster on the back of the box, so that's that's pretty open and shut case in terms of the official wording around it, but that felt like a remake to me. Not like a, you know, a full on like silent hill two resin evil four reson evil to style remake , but they redid every asset in that game. They streamlined like the water temple. They added like the Sheikah Stones, there's the entire second screen adding sort of like input functionality and a map and all that like that's that's pretty close to feeling more like a remake than a remaster to me. Yeah. And I feel like there was yeah, it was just enough changes in there that made it feel fresh . E justven the way Link controls in that game, you have a significantly less of a chance of slicing a sign post in half when you're trying to read it because they're all mapped to the same button, right? And obviously now it had the three D effect to it, but like, yeah, it's a really, it was always a good looking game and I love what they did with the three DS version. And so I'm really interested to see where this goes with the Switch one because I really dig the sort of play ful whimsy that they're setting up from what we've seen so far, right? That like very gentle narrator voice comes in and it feels like you're watching like a children's animated movie. And I think that there are a lot of really weird moody, creepy parts of Okarian of Time that I think could work really well underneath this this new art style too. So I can't wait to see how like the shadow temple and the reds and you know,, like there's so much cool stuff in this game that is so dark fantasy, but also you know pretty whimsical. And so yeah, I can't wait to see how this thing comes together. Yeah, people always say like Majora's M ask is the dark Zelda. And I'm like, Ocarina of Time is just as dark in so many ways. There's many twisted elements of this game that I think we just Ocarina of Time is such a known quantity , just we ab'sdorbed these things and kind of maybe skip over them in some cases. But like you mentioned the shadow temple. Like there's like execution chambers in there. And there's like corpses that rise from the dead that you fight. And there's a man transformed into a spider that you need to collect all the gold skeletons to save. Like there's so much messed up stuff in Ocarina of Time and with this art style that people are calling like more realism, sure. I guess that's an easy bandaid term to slap on it. I still think it looks very fantastical and very zelda to me. But some of these things are going to look terrifying and very creepy. And I love the new art direction. I think that every link goes through a period of backlash where he's too cartoony or now he looks too real, but to me they're all linked and that',s the beauty of Zelda is that it's a retelling of this legend, of this fairy tale of a bedtime story. And like two years from now , that amiibo of this link from Acreen of Time will just be another one in the lineup with Tun Linke and Toy Link, and Twilight Princess Link, like , it's just another link. And I love this moment in time where we get to imagine what does a Goron look like in this art style? Like because they're cute little just round dudes in the original Acrene of Time, but with this more detail, what's that going to be? How scary is the redead going to be in the bottom of the well or the dead hand that you fight down there? Like I think it's a really fun time right now to kind of try to extrapolate this art style to things beyond just Link's Treehouse . Yeah, because I don't think the three DS one had that same level of surprise, right? Like they redid everything. It looked, it looked way prettier . It just, you know, graph ics wise, it was that the higher res textures, even though it was running on a very tiny screen , even then we had like capture kits at IGN. I remember like seeing side by side stuff that we were publishing. It was like, this is a better, you know, this looks better, but it honors the original art style. And this one though, there's so much more surprise, right? Like I feel like going through this game, having played the three D S one, having played the original Ocarina, having played every time they put've Occarina anywhere, I've played it, right? It's one of the greatest games ever made. This one is there's going to be so many surprises, I think. And it's just exactly what you're saying, Logan. Like the first time you see something that you've seen fifteen times, it's familiar, but now it's got this whole new art direction. I'm fascinated where that's gonna go. And one thing I want to , I don't wanna like drag people on this one, but there's that there's alert it if you need to. Okay, no, let's all do it together. There's it'll be a beat down . Dojo Rush. Yeah, dojo rush. There's there's that meme going around the last week or so called The Higher This Man, right? And Hire This Man has been a thing for like the last ten years where somebody makes some like, you know , objectively high fidelity , hyper realistic super Mario sixty four or Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, and Link's got like, you know, leg hair and he's like chiseled or whatever. And he's running the way he's navigating the world looks like crap. You know, he's running around. It doesn't nothing makes sense cohesive ly. None of it has any sort of like visual language that makes sense in any sort of normal way, right? It is just high res ets. And for the longest time people have conflated that with good, right? Like they're like, oh, better graphics, better art direction. And so the meme the last week has been like, Oh, Nintendo, you weren't supposed to hire this man, 'cause it was always like, hire this man. There's a video of like, you know, high definition Mario running around and his physics are all messed up and he's he can't walk properly and and I don't I'm not getting that from what we've seen from this at all and like I think that like even the tapestry Seth was talking about and the narration and stuff like that, like the notes trickling in from Kokiri Farst like these are these are things that hire this man doesn't do, you know, like he just doesn't he can't do that stuff. This is stuff that Nintendo does. Yeah. These are the Nintendo like that's their specialty, right? They can build this mood and this magic with just like a little bit, you know, a little bit extra , just there's something extra in the oil paint. There's something extra in the brush strokes. Like they just do that differently . And I don't think if you just make like an AI generated or unreal engine five per S Muario dem o or you make it in, you know, what was that? What was the place they were game where every dreams dreams and all had that situation and doing amazing things in that game, right? I don't want to dunk on that community at all because they're super talented, but a lot of like the realistic Mario and realistic Zelda stuff there just didn't land for me because it just fell off brand . Yeah I've said it like a million times but I'm so excited that this is probably the end of the somebody remade Ocarina in Unreal Engine five and its gorgeous posts from those terrible like, you know, aggregate social media bunch. Unreal Engine six just came out. So who knows what the fees look even better. Yeah. So the thing I want to ask you guys is that I have flipped on in the last week and I'll explain why in a bit is didn't intend to show enough for this reveal because I think that my gut reaction and a lot of the intern ets was man, it would have been nice to see some gameplay for a game that's coming out in twenty twenty six. This was a very, very brief tease. So Seth, I don't know what you think . Yeah, I mean, look, we're almost certainly going to be getting a forty five thirty minute direct like based around this game entirely. But the I think of the Breath of the Wild reveal and how just perfect that was every part of it. And then to find out like, oh, this is this is the game. It's not even like a pre rendered cutscene. This is what the game looks like. Like so I do agree that this one more thing should have been like three more things in it because it doesn't it doesn't tell us anything more than it exists and it just, I don't know, people are like mad that we didn't get to see anything and I'm not mad about it, but I am like it, left me wanting for more, but you know what? That's a secret of show biz, baby. You always leave the audience wanting more. So I don't know, I hope that next month we get a big old dose of the Zelda Ocarin ofa Time Remake , and I'm sure they'll, you know, release date and show us the new Steelbook edition that I'm an idiot and I spend ninety dollars. Maybe a new switch too, which oh no you know I would not be surprised whatsoever if there's some sort of yeah, like special edition bundle that none of us are gonna buy or like Joy Cons with gold rails that you can say exactly your choice. Yeah . Brian, how about you? Are you happy with how much they showed? Okay, so this is a tough conversation to have because I think that if we didn't if this hadn't leaked or been rumored or teased, then this would have been the most absolute perfect way to end a direct and people will be losing their minds . So I'm torn on that. If I want to pretend I live in a world where I didn't hear any of those rumors going in, then this would have been perfect for me . I don't want to see that sleeping link in any more YouTube thumbnails. We're good. That's all we got. We're good on that. Yeah, it's and it's funny 'cause I just published I published a video about this the other day just about Ocarina and I did like a AB test where I had that sleeping link one and then one that I made myself that had like classic renders or drawings of Ocarina and the classic renders one , which was I think the audience is already just kind of like all right we've seen him sleeping. I've seen people turn this image sideways, you know, so it kind of looks like he's like sleep walking . There's only so much you can do with it, but I feel like just what we saw the, little glimpses, I've gone, I've watched it fifteen times by now . Looking at the details in the tapestry, looking at the Kokiri up in the top corner and the Hyrule Castle . So I'm ready. I'm I'm ready for more. And I think that we in the next probably not the next month, but I do think that by September they will have shown or will announce like a full on direct for this . But yeah, just talking to you guys, I was actually going to message you both the other day and just go, hey, I'm I just realized like we're going to get new Ocarina of Time Merchandise for this. Yeah, like hopefully some weep we're going to get new amiibo, maybe new action figures, maybe new t shirts and you know my Nintendo exclusive stuff and like yeah maybe it's new Switch two like that that just makes me so happy as somebody who loves Zelda . I have like a shelf full of links back there like I yeah, that rules man. So yeah, this is a tease. We'll get more . I'm fascinated to see what the release date's going to be though because like 's that big game that n't coming to switch to this fall, but it's going everywhere else. It's kind of kind of hog all the air. That's called GTA six and I think Nintendo, I mean, I've seen like this running joke that Nintendo and Ocarina of Time are the only ones that can like get in the way of and it's like I don't know about that. Yeah I don't think that that there's no stopping GTA six Yeah at all. I think the scene comes out in November. I think Zelda doesn't november exam. I think it's the week before GTA, and I think that if GTA moves, they'll take the day or the week at least. Yeah, because it's like, I don't know, the Switch two is the only console GTA is not coming to and like why not like you got FOMO Well don't worry, you got a remake of the most critically acclaimed game of all time the week before. I think it works and I think this is totally anecdotal but I have seen a lot of people a, lot of people who do not own a switch to that are basically saying like, damn Nintendo, this is the one that's going to get me yeah, which is, you know, it's it's surprising to me, I guess, because well, I guess it's this is like the first Zelda game on Switch two, right? The first from the ground up the game non spinoff, yeah. Yeah, non spinoff. And obviously it is a remake, but this is not them being like this was a switch like this is a switch to exclusive game, right? Yeah . Yeah. So this is do we know that? I mean, there's no I'm a Oh we know that for sure one hundred percent this is a switch to exclusive. Yeah, yeah, I believe they only showed a switch to logo. Yeah. And all their things they released, like, here's all the games from the direct. It's in the Switch two only category. And then on the website it says reborn exclusively for a Nintendo Switch two. It's a switch two game. Yeah, so I will I will say this everyone listening to this know this knows this already, but like if you have a casual gamer friend who wants to buy a switch to for Ocarina of Time, tell them to get it soon because it's going up in price. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, get the yeah this is this might be a big like no this will be a big system seller for them. This is the type of thing that yeah people like consoles will fly off the shelves for this game for sure this is one of the classics. My jugglo homie was going to buy a switch to until the Zelda came out. But then he bought one on a whim and was kind of like, whatever. And then yeah, he was very excited that this game is coming. So he's justified his purchase. So everybody out there, go get a four hundred and ninety nine dollars bundle with Donkey Kong or Popia or Cart. Yeah . Yeah . My piece on the brevity of the teaser trailer is on the live show after I was like, man, would have been nice to see some gameplay I grew through what you're saying, Brian had this not been rumored at all. That would have been just a huge pop and surprise. But even with the rumor, like it only took me a few hours after that reveal that day last week to be like, I'm glad that this is how they did it. Because something I just think about is you don't get that many Zelda reveals like this in your life. They happen like every five years. They are not very common whatsoever and to kind of exist in this moment in time where this is all we have of this game. It's a one thousand piece puzzle and we have one piece of it, which is this is what Link looks like . I think that's really fun and it just it feels like Breath of the Wild , where it was like, Hey, E three twenty fourteen, here's Link, and he's wearing blue and he doesn't have a hat. And he's firing this robotic arrow into this giant walking spider robot. What in the world is this? That's so cool. Or Miyamot o running onto the stage with the Hylian shield and master sword after they just showed Twilight Princess before that game even had a name. Like this trailer fits in to that legacy of just these breathed Zelda reveals. And I think that's really awes ome because like I was saying about we'll all get used to what Link looks like. In two years, there will be no mystery around this game anymore. Well, I've played it. Well, I've played it multiple times, one hundred percent of it, people have dissected it down to the bone. But right now we know nothing and I think like as a Zelda fan it's my favorite series it's only a feeling that comes around every so often and I'm enjoying sitting in it right now Well said yeah I mean we all know we're going to get we're going to get that shot of Link writing oppon a across high rule field and grown men like me will cry. Like we will see we will see that shot and it'll it'll be this thing it'll be this culmination of like, you know, if you're old enough to have played this game when it first came out and you remember how special it was to see the legend of Zelda in three D for the first time in this massive world and like, you know, you go back in as an adult now and comparatively you know, comp, ared to Tears of the Kingdom, which is multilayered and breath of the wild and stuff like that. Hyrule field feels pretty small , but I think that they'll be they'll find a way to play with that scale a little bit. And that's that's where I think like the push and pull will happen. I think that like some of the more confined areas will be fleshed out a little bit and I think they'll funnel into familiarity. Like I think that like the temples will largely remain intact. There'll be little tweaks, I think, right? But yeah, I don't know. Like and like I said at the top of the show, if this is a full blown, like you've never seen anything like this before , remake, cool. I'll take it. If it is largely one to one, I will also take that too. So yeah, just bring on whatever this is. I can't wait to see more. Yeah, I do want to touch a little more on remake or reimagining because we're in this time that we have so little in formation, people are clinging on, do anything they can get. And this happened over the weekend. I've been more and more sure in the last week that this is going to be more of a reimagining, but now I'm not so sure because there was an SEO description. If you just Googled Ocarina of Time Remake and you saw the link to a Nintendo's website, the description on that link said the N sixty four classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch two Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay. People like, oh, is this the gameplay, timeless gameplay? Are they not changing much? Everyone was just trying to look into these adjectives and figure out what they meant and then intend to remove that description. And that's no longer there. So what does that mean ? I don't know, it's it's a lot to read into they're using the word reborn, but then I was looking at old marketing they called Ocarina of Time three D reborn for Nintendo three D S. And like we talked about that, was it a very one to one remake with some quality of life improvements. So I think it's really hard to say right now. I'm totally fifty fifty on is this going to be the same game but prettier and everything like looks different and the creatures look different and Link looks like that? Or is it going to be, hey, we're reimagining what Ocarina of Time is in twenty twenty six and revisiting one of our most classic games and bringing it into the modern day. Seth, which side do you think it's going to land on? I mean, I just I think it's crazy that they sent an NDA letter to themselves. No, right ? Yeah . No it's impossible. I mean, it's which do I think? I cannot say. It's a flip of the coin. It's really a flip of the coin, but I mean, I've said many times that one of the things that I love about Nintendo is that whatever expectations I have, they either completely blow them out of the water or they exceed them greatly for the most part especially with Breath of the Wild was not like anything I could have imagined. Tears of the kingdom, we all thought we knew what we were getting into. And at first, you know, the discourse was a little bit like , ah, this looks like they just reskinned Breath of the Wild, and then it turned out like no it's actually they improved it in every way. So that's basically where I'm at right now is that I cannot fathom to guess even where this will end up , but I do know that given the history of the Zelda franchise, especially the recent history , Nintendo is going to delight and surprise me and then the three of us actually,'ll, probably there be about eight people fighting for the review of this, but I have a feeling Tom Marks is gonna be like, It's me , the guy who assigns reviews. Sorry, fools . Yeah , yeah, I think that's going to be it's going to be a fight for sure. If it's a one to one remake, though, I don't know. I think that a new art style's never really been done for a straight remaster. Like Aquarium of Time and Jorah's Mask three D , were closer to the original concept art, but clearly a modern realization of the original vision of Ocarina of Time. Like, I don't think you would look at those two games and say they have different art styles. I think you'd just say one looks newer. And this is clearly new a art style. This does not look like anything Ocarina has looked like before. And they've never done that. Like Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD skyward sword, they look like the original games. And then we just talked about this ninety second teaser. The way they revealed this is how they reveal new three B's Elbas. Like in my opinion, you don't reveal a one to one remake in this way. And if it ends up being just it's the same, but has voice acting and some improved story, like Starfox , I may look back at this reveal trailer as a misstep because I think that would be a failure in expectation management. If they give us this little tease , they set our imaginations on fire for two months and then they're like, Ah, it's the Kokiri village you know with four houses. It's like, oh, okay, that would just be I think that would be a little deflating. Not that I wouldn't love to play a beautiful remake of one of my top ten favorite games of all time, but I think this has set the expectations a little differently . I'm just thinking now how hilarious it would be if the little guy who blocks you from going to the Daku tree is like in four K and he still does that like weird step Yeah . I know like if you look at, I guess like the Lynx Awakening remake, right is one of those things where they did a drastically new art style that honored the original in many ways. I feel like that was and I was like I was so happy when we first saw that game . But then it ultimately did like it was a game I played a million times and I was happy to play it again, but there wasn't there wasn't a ton outside of some window dress ing and some like, you know, a , you know, the Dompe build your own dungeon mode and, you know, little Mario collectibles in the in the , you know, the vending machine stuff. Like there wasn't a ton in there, but I was really happy to play a game I loved so much with a whole new art direction. I was happier to play it on Switch two where actually, you know, didn't stutter like crazy stutter into like single digits every now and then, but yeah, this was beautiful. So I guess I guess what I'm saying is that like this it feels like that's it might go in that direction, but I understand where you're going Logan because I do think it would be disappointing to a lot of people if they didn't sort of step it up a bit because the scale of that game, like I said before, about Hyrule Field and Cauko Village and a bunch of other things, like they felt massive in nineteen ninety six , but replaying those things down , yeah, sorry . I keep getting that screwed up. Yeah . It feels a lot smaller these days. And I don't know. I like to revisit this game often. I just played through Twilight Princess. It is interesting how quickly after playing Breath of the Wild in Tears of the Kingdom and putting one hundred and fifty hours or more into each of those games, how easily I can just get back into the classic sort of more rigid zelda formula where you get a cool tool and you use it to beat a dungeon and you then and sometimes you never use it again like in Twilight Princess where you get a spring top. It culminates in one of the coolest boss fights in Zelda history, and then you use it like maybe once or twice for the rest of the game . But no, how quickly you get back into that groove . And I think modern audiences that just know Zelda from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will also find that that formula still holds up extraordinarily well. Yeah , no, absolutely. I think that like I said, it would be I play Aquarium time every single year with my sister. We sit down and beat it in a day. It takes us about nine hour s to do. And so if that's what this was, it'd be awesome to revisit, but it would be like, oh, I know this game like the back of my hand. I know that I need to jump over the two blocks in Kokiri forest to get the five coins to buy the shield for forty ru pes, to go and get to the tree to do all that. Like I know that. So I'd like to see them flip the script a bit, but it would be really cool to introduce a new generation of Nintendo fans to one of the best games of all time that's never had write analog stick control ever that and it already feels so much different . Let you skip the text a little faster and it feels different. Give me a button for the boots like the three DS version had instead of having to pause and it'll feel different. Even if they do like third person aiming with the bow and arrow, like Breath of the Wild instead of the first person view, like just even if it plays like a modern zelda, the formula still sticks exactly to the N sixty four original. It will feel new and different, I think. I think so too. Yeah. So we'll see. I'd like to lay out a small theory here before we move on. Oh, which is that I think a lot of this comes down to who is making it. We just learned that Starfox is being handled by I think it's Valon Studios. Nintendo's working with an external studio to remake Starfox sixty four. And we don't know yet who is making Ocarina of Time . I don't know. I have a hard time thinking that they would farm out a reimagining of Ocarina of Time to a new studio. So if it's more one to one, I could see them partnering with someone to make it. But if it's a reimagining, I think they're handling this internally. And something I've been thinking about is that Asia N produmauc,er of Z theelda series is sixty three years old. Koji Kondo, who's made some of the best Nintendo soundtracks ever, is sixty five years old . Ocarina was the last soundtrack Condo worked on alone in Nintendo. He's collaborated with other creators ever since and Ocarina is the first Zelda game Aluma ever worked on. He designed the dungeons in Ocarina of Time. Nintendo has a mandatory retirement age of sixty five years old, and at that point you are required to pass on your main development roles to kind of the next generation of talent and Nintendo. We're seeing that with Takashi Tezuka just announced his retirement. Mimoto's in his seventies, but he hasn't worked on a game in like ten years. And he's just this executive fellow who's rumpin' around theme parks and movies movies Bombadille of Exactly. Dev World. Yeah. So it's like, is this a victory lap for two creators who have been at Nintendo for thirty plus that are going to be passing the torch soon and they're re visiting one of their oldest and most iconic works in recreating it for the modern day . Even just thinking about that gets me really excited. And I hope that is the case of what's happening here. No, well said, I love the idea of this being a swan song for a b unch of, you know, Nintendo legends like it is a very beautiful full circle moment. And I think the same can be said for anybody who grew up with Nintendo. It's why like I just can't find it within me to get jaded about this. Like I don't think that neither I think that people think that this is taking away resources from the next Zelda game or I just don't think it works like that, honestly. I think that whatever they're cooking up next is still gonna happen . And even if it is, would you not take this? Like still? Yeah , just I don't know, I don't know. Yeah, it's yeah it's I don't know. I can't I can't understand the visceral negative reaction that people have had to this and it's been it's been like people were telling me in the comments of my video like, Hey, man, thank you for being optimistic about this. And I started poking around. I'm like, Oh yeah, man, everybody gets really a lot of people are really mad . And I don't know. I'm not saying that you have to just give blanket trust and praise to any, you know, faceless corporation or whatever. Like I get that, I get being hesitant. I get the sort of like underlying negativity about the concept of remaking something that has already been remastered or remade before and ported six hundred times, and we've all played it to death. I get that cynicism to some degree , but I don't understand people being like, I hate this, I don't want this. Man, just don't play it. Like just you always have that option. There are so many other ways to play this game right now . Like so just do that if that's what you want to do. But I'm pre ordering this. I'm playing this the second I can. No. And yeah, I don't even buy physical things, but I'm gonna I'm gonna get the stupid gold box or whatever, you know , whatever things that comes with I want. I want all of it, you know? I did the same thing for Tears and for Breath of the Wild. It's Zelda man. I'm there one . Yeah, yeah. Can't wait to learn more about Ocarina of Time. Yeah, it's just, it's so fun right now. I've been thinking about this just a ridiculous amount. Like I've been texting my sister nonstop and she's like, did you notice that Link's tunic is made as the made of the same material as his blanket? And it's like, that's a detail. Like, oh, they have weave their blanket the same as their clothes. So cool, they notice that. It is like, that's what we're getting to talk about right now, and it's ridiculous and Zelda is the only series that I love to do that with so much. So I can't wait. Yeah . Saturday something. I was just gonna say now like now I'm going to have to look at that screen grab and try to pick out all the things and torture myself by getting excited even more. You know what I realized though because we're recording early, that means that as soon as we finish this episode they're going to announce the direct episode. Yeah, I don't know if we get it direct. I feel like they like to keep Zelda social. I don't think so? Like Tears of the Kingdom they were so, so quiet about. And then they eventually did like ten minutes of Sky Island's gameplay with Aooma. And that was it. And then they did a launch trailer and we're done. I think they like they didn't announce the depths. Like you found the depths yourself. I don't know if we get a full direct for this or just like a five minute overview trailer that's like here's the release date and a little more narration about what the game is. Hey, I'll take whatever anything you can get. Yeah, this is my second most anticipated. My first highly most anticipated Nintendo Switch two game my most anticipated Nintendo game in like a long, a long time since Tears of the Kingdom actually. Yeah. Zelda just hits different and yeah, it's exciting to see that this is how the Switch two Zelda is starting out. We should talk a little bit more about that Nintendo Direct from last week because Zelta was not the only thing show. It was a fifty minute show. We got some other big reveals Xenoblade Genesis coming twenty twenty seven. Nintendoitched Sw to editions for Xenoblade one three, a fire emblem date, Splatoon Raiders direct date, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and a lot more. So Brian, just your overall thoughts on this fifty minute direct as a whole . I really liked it. I thought watching all of the other presentations from Sony, from Summer Gamesfest, from Xbox, the PC Game Show, there were like seventeen , even if you missed just not counting the big four. There were so many frostby games fest. There were so many . It's cool because it's like every single Nintendo years ago were like, we're not going to do E three anymore. We're going to do our own thing and everybody was like, that's a really good ide a. We're going to do that too. And I will never say no to them, but Nintendo's was my favorite. And that's not just because I'm a fanboy with console bias , but also it is. I just love what they did. I thought it was it was a really awesome grab bag of a bunch of little things that I'm excited for sort of like a couple of things that were like, oh that's really cool. That's coming toitch Sw two. Finally , like Lies of Pe ace is one of my favorite games of the last five years, and you can play that on Switch two now. That rules. And it's the complete edition that has all of the bonus content and extra DLC . This was one of my favorite, this is probably my favorite souls like ever made . And I will totally replay it. Yeah, not my favorite souls game, Logan, my favorite souls like my favorite cover. Yeah. That's how it's yeah, okay. Well because they this is the closest I've ever gotten to like bloodborne too basically like bloodborne isn't bloodborn a souls like it doesn't have souls in the title ? Well, I guess we don't need to we don't need to talk about it . It's a soul's born. It's a soul's border, yeah. So what's Elden Ring? Elden would they just keep adding more And then there's Securo you can throw Securo in there too. Yeah . Yeah, I love that. And the switch sports resort thing was just I love that they were just like, hey, you know, thumb wrestling, nothing the eas iest thing you can do in the entire world that you absolutely don't need to spend five hundred and seventy dollars to do. Like you can turn to anyone in the world and be like, Hey, you want to thumb wrestle? They're like, We're gonna showcase that one. I'm like, what a wonderful Nintendo thing that was. Yeah, you know, crazy. You get these like high powered officials at the company being like, hey, yeah, you want to thumb wrestle . It was great. And yeah, reminded me how much I loved the last week sports resort game . And so yeah, yeah. Yeah, I want to I'd love this island. It's such a such a chill place to hang out in . Yeah, man. I thought this was a great direct. I was really excited about a bunch of little things in there and it got me really excited about a bunch of stuff that's gonna be here soon. Yes , what'd you think I think it was great as well. It was an eight direct for me for, you know, pretty much everything that Brian said, I might have liked the Xbox one better, but that's because I'm such a halo dork that I was really excited to see all that new halo. I think that's maybe what it was I wasn't expecting that halo thing and so the ocarina thing was already spoiled. We already knew that. So I bet had we not known about the Ocarina thing, this would have been like one of my top of all time. Just from the surprise. And I'm somebody who doesn't really give a lot of weight to surpr ises as a technique for memorability. That's why I think the sixth sense is lame. It's not a good movie, it just has a good twist at the end. But where was I going with this? Oh yeah. Fun direct Wii Sports Resort yeah not, Wei Sports Resort . Yes, switch sports. Notendo. Yeah. Switch sports resort is going to be it's gonna be a game that's played. It's it's gonna be a hit in my house. I don't know that this I don't think sports is ever going to take off like it did with the Wii , which is so strange because it's they're just such better versions of those Wii Sortps games , but I don't know, maybe it's just the barrier to entry is too high for as far as expenses, but yeah, it's going to be fun. I'm going to love it. I'm going to play it a lot. It is going to be a hit, like the pre order numbers that we've been seeing are like pretty substantial. But man , I just wish, you know, everybody , every old boomer person just had a switch with this game on it, a switch too, and that was like all they ever played because those are like fun times. You could talk to the most random people and they'd be like, Yeah, I have a Nintendo Wii. I'd like that to have that happen again. No . Yeah, my grandma has the Wii Mini, the top loader that doesn't have online the black red one and just Wii sports. Yeah . That's all you need . Yeah. If you're if you're a grandma, that's all you need. The kids come over, hey, Sonny, you want to play some Nintendo? Pop that bad boy in there. Xenoblade, very exciting. I'm I'm excited for the four K what are they not re the four K updates? I was trying to say read the switch two editions. Yeah. Yeah, the switch to editions of them, which is, I think it's weird that they're staggering them. Like why not just bring them all out ? Yeah , right now. But yeah, unless they're not ten yet. But so far, the first one is out and early returns are that it's a much better update than Xenoblade Chronicles' X definitive edition Nintendo Switch two edition was. That one was rough and had a ton of stuttering issues and frame rate issues and lighting issues and none of that seems to be present on Xenoblade one, which is good. That's exciting. I would like to revisit Xenoblade two is like one of the first games I bought for my Switch that wasn't Zelda and I remember liking it but also being not really knowing anything about Xenoblade at the time, just being completely baffled. Now that I've gotten into the series a little bit more it would be, nice to revisit on my giant four K TV and a wonderful sixty FPS. So I know everybody who's a Xenoblade fan is like over the moon or are they now that I think about it. But people always write into us because we don't talk about it enough. And now we've talked about it. So there you go. You're welcome. I think it's really cool. Zeniblade two did not run great on Switch one, so people have been wanting an update for that one for a long time. So that's cool. And I think Genesis looks really, really neat. I talked about it last week, but I just love how this world looks. It's like folding in on itself, kind of like a halo ring. I think that's a really cool idea. Yeah. The next firem emble , it didn't do anything for me . I don't know why. Looks like three houses too for sure. Yeah, maybe that's why I mean, I liked three houses enough, but I liked to engage more. I don't know. This is another one that 's selling like hot cakes because there's a hundred and twenty dollars special edition with a steel book in it . People are very fired up, but yeah, it didn't, I don't know, just didn't excite me. Did there's I don't know if I said this on the show, but I noticed that this is like the sequel to three houses in that it's just the next in that formula. And three houses had three characters that you could pick as your protagonist and four Chins' Weave has four and I just had been thinking about that fun . I just wanted to share . Also, we talked about a couple months ago that Fire Emblem would be the most telling game of this new physical digital price split, and we now know the price for Fire Emblem it is seventy dollars digital and eighty dollars physical. So we learned yes, Nintendo still will have seventy dollars digital games. This is like their full premium priced game. Don't imagine it'll go higher than that except for like the switch to edition bundles. But for like a stand alone game, this one's going to be seventy or eighty. Unless you get a wear set, you can get it like on some retailers have the digital Amazon. You can get it to Amazon and Walmart. In fact, a lot of the games that have the price discrepancy between digital and physical, Amazon and Walmart are just like battling it out and you can get the physical versions for the cost of the digital versions. It's just like one of those things where you have to add it to your cart for the price to take. But yeah, you can get this right now for the cost of the digital version Amazon or Walmart . So pick your poison. I want to talk about Splitoon Raiders a little more. This was featured in the tree house, which we hadn't had a chance to watch last week. It got about twenty five minutes of gameplay hosted by former NBC host Jose Ottero, which was cool to see. But this is getting its own direct on june thirtieth and on the treehouse they basically showed off the tutorial, which is they taught us how to playat Soplon. So if you're new, you can go learn, but I've been playing Splatoon for ten years. And then they showed off kind of the first level where you're going through this area, fighting off waves of salmonids to get three treasures that are denoted by these beams of light in the sky . And then once you get the last one, which has like a spiral beams, you know it's kind of the big mission, then the level is over. You go back to base and you use all the resources you found to upgrade your gear and go out again. And I know we're getting a direct on june thirtieth, so there's still time. But I got to say as someone who has like four hundred hours across the splatoon series, I'm still not all the way sold on this one. I still am looking at this and I'm like, it looks fun, but it just looks like a kind of a single player expansion to me, not kind of, oh, this is a big stand alone single player thing on Switch two . Yeah, I well said. I think I'm in the same boat. I'll I'll I'll definitely play this when it comes out because I like the idea of like getting a standalone single player splatoon game, but it doesn't it's just not there just yet for me. And I've said this before on the show. I think a part of it for me is the art direction. It's just kind of drab and it's not I feel like they took one of the most unique looking franchises in Nintendo history , like that revelatory when it first came out, right? This was it was very clearly like, hey, this is not your grandpa's Nintendo or whatever, right? Like this was a bunch of this is a young scrappier team of developers and I've said this in the past on this show, but so much of Nintendo games were about cleaning things up , right? It was about collecting everything and finding like super Mario Sunshine is like, Hey, get that graffiti out of here. And here they were like, let's make a huge mess. Let's make an absolute disaster everywhere. That's the aesthetic, right? It is not it is not rigid and conformed. It is chaos. And there's still a bit of that here, but I feel like the level wise, everything just feels a little desaturated . And I want I want some more yeah, I just want a little more sort of vibrant pop from this game. And it's not happening, obviously, right? So I can just have to deal with it or suck it up as they do in these games . But I just don't I wish it was a little bit had a little more sort of oomph to it. Yeah. Yeah. And maybe they're still hiding lots of stuff from us. They do have our own its own show dedicated to it that's coming up and I'm still waiting to see in the first trailer for this game or something, they had a little icon on the top left that said like dungeon list or something like that. Dungeons like there's going to be little probably underground shrine like areas in this game. We haven't seen that at all, so I'm still holding out hope there's going to be something that's gonna really hook me in on this one. Did you guys play DeBlob? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, okay. So that this reminds me of that before all the color comes in. And like that was the whole thing with that game was like you went in and you this blob and you painted textures and buildings and environments and stuff like that and turned them from black and white into like full color . And here it feels like yeah, like look, theres's there' theres a' lot a of lot of similarities here. Here it feels like the the part where the color kicks in just doesn't really happen . And so yeah, I don't know. I'm I'm optimistic but, I wish it was a little more so far. Yeah, based just off of what we've seen, it looks very like two thousand eight PS three Xbox three hundred and sixty shooter. Like everyone brown and gray. It's so weird for this series for this series . The most stylish like video game series Nintendo has ever made. One of the most stylish video game series probably ever, where everything just works so well together from the sound design to the to the colors to the design of like just the fonts of their made up language. All looks so great. And then it's like, here you go. There's somebody who remade a mountain in Unreal Engine four and now it's like even you go to like, you know, the one of the Nintendo stores and there's like the merchandise section for Splatoon. It is so drastically different than everything else in there. Like there was just this corner with this psychedelic neon alien languages and big color splats and everything like that. And they're they're selling these like key chains of these like funky huge , you know, bootleg Air Jordans and it's, yeah, it's just they've got their whole own thing and then now I'm I'm just I feel like they lost the beat there, but I don't like look, I haven't played it yet and I don't want to I don't want to just hone in on the negative for it because I have a feeling that it's gameplay wise it's going to be really fun. I think that they consistently struggle to show Spatoon off in a good light. I felt that with Splatoon three also like leading up to that game's launch a few years ago. It took them a long time to convince us of why we needed another Splatoon sequel on Switch instead of Splitoon two just getting more updates. That game turned out fantastic and totally justified that it exists and did some of the coolest things Nintendo's ever done, like the final splatfest, where it was basically like a splatoon rave that you attended and did this final huge battle with. That was great. And then the side order DLC did take out all the color. It was this monochrome black and white world , but it was so starkly different than Splatoon that it really worked. And it had its own kind of dystopian vibe and the music was really electronic and cool. And so that had its own identity as well. But then this, yeah, we just don't see it yet. We'll talk in two weeks after we watch the direct, and hopefully we're all a little more on board. Anything else from the direct you guys want to shout out or should we move on . Where was Castlevania? That wasn't in the question. That was in something else, but it didn't even have a switch logo anymore, which was raining. So I'm worried about that game not being day and date on Switch two because that's where I plan on playing it. Yeah, I'm trying to see if they've clarified it all because yeah, it was originally going to be a switch one game. It was not going to be a switch two game. It would just be backwards compatible or whatever. But then in the most recent trailer, it was totally missing its Switch logo when it got when it got every its new trailer, new art and everything. So I hope that comes out because I'm also absolutely waiting to play that on Switch. Yep, yeah. But yeah, let' wells move on and talk about Rhythm Heaven Groove, which was also in the direct, but I got to play Rhythm Heaven at the same event I played Starfox a few weeks ago. I played Rhythm Heaven for about forty five minutes and man this game's so good. It is going to be really, really awesome when it comes out. I'd love Rhythm Heaven Mega Mix on three D S is one of my favorite games on that system. And one of my favorite parts about that game is the multiplayer , which you could do through download play. If you had two three DS, you only had to have one copy of the game and you could play it together . And my wife and I played that all the time together when we were dating in college. It's super fun. But now it's couch co op. There's like eighty, multiplayer, maybe not eighty, but there's a bunch of multiplayer co op and competitive mini games that you can just play with everyone have a joy con on the couch because it's like a one button game. So it really doesn't matter what controller you're using. And it's just that like wacky Nintendo Warriorware infused just absurdity that you never know what's going happen to next . And like one of the competitive games was you're seeing who can grab the cake off the table closest to the alarm going off. So the alarm will start counting down for like fifteen seconds and then eventually it will disappear. So then you're just counting in your head. Like here it is like five, four, three, two, one. And then you all grab the cake. And whoever is the closest on either side over or under gets the cake and then their little elvis hairdo grows to be longer like after they got the camps and why is that happening? But it's just so great that it does and everyone else falls out of their chair onto the ground, just really, really entertaining. Or there's one where you are these four ninjas protecting the emperor from these villains who are shooting arrows at you and then you have to like slice through their arrows with your katana on the exact beat. That's great. There's one where you're like a turnip with an umbrella and you're like dancing in the rain, but you don't want to get rained ons. You have to open your umbrella at the exact right moments, which is rhythm heaven. Like it's exactly what you want out of the first rhythm heaven in ten years. And one of the coolest parts is I got to play like a full world of levels, which is like five games. It's like the turnip one. It's the one we saw in the initial reveal trailer where it says all these little circle guys jumping through hoops. There's a dog catching a frisbee, and there's a dinosaur who's like eating flow . And all four of these games play to their own beats. Like you're doing it on like two and four in a lot of them. You're doing them on like off beats on another . And then there's this remix which mixes all of them together and it plays this like J pop song and it's just constantly like flipping between all five games and you have to like remember the individual rhythm for each one and it's just super satisfying. The music is, I think the best rhythm heaven's ever seen. It's just awesome. This game's out on july second in just a few weeks and it's on Switch one. It's the last switch one game we know about. I think it's just gonna be really, really fantastic . Hell yeah , I'm so excited. Yeah, it looks so stupid and amazing. Yeah, stupid in the good way. Oh yeah, in a very good way . I think like looking at some of these mini games because I this sort of just like this is one of those things where I saw the trailer for this. I was like, oh, awesome. Yeah, I'm in I'm in day one . But I didn't really stop to actually look at what is happening specifically and it is amazing. That cake that cake thing is going to be a huge hit in my house . I cannot wait for this. This looks this, is like, I mean, I'm a massive warriorware fan . So anything that sort of scratches that itch is always is always gonna have a place in my heart. Yeah, it's it's exactly that. It's rhythm warriorware if you haven't played it. I think it's forty bucks . This is not a full priced Nintendo title. So yeah, you gotta dip into this one. It's going to be one of my favorite games of this year, I think. It also it has like the same text to speech sort of voice as Tomadachi life. They're just really into that weird uncanny vibe right now. Like the narrator of all the story and stuff is has that same robotic rhythm as the mis do in Tomodachi, which I thought was interesting . Up sweet. Yeah, it's going to be great and there's so many games I have not seen yet. I also saw the RPG mode, which is called Beat Spell. They show this off a little in the direct It's, I think not really a full RPG, like it's maybe being billed as just another mini game that plays out like turn based RPG battles where you're learning spells and it's like X is like your fire and then XY is to heal and then you're hitting these to the beat as you're fighting these basic like RPG slime dragon Quest level enemies. It's cool. It's just another mini game , but it kind of seems to me the progression is going to be you play all the normal games to rank up and unlock stars, to eventually earn your way to the next RPG level. And I think that's going to be like beating the game is when you reach the end of the RPG, but who really cares about that? It's all about the stupid mini games and playing with your friends and family. Yep. So that's rhythm ha gvingrove outo in just a few weeks. It is out next week and there is a demo out now on Switch two that I know we've all checked out. It has one level of the game and man I, think this demo is really awesome. What do you guys think? Yes. Yeah, yeah. It was better than I mean, the second you see the Arwings and it's in sixty FPS and in four K I was like, okay, well this is exactly what I need to be playing as soon as it comes out. Yeah, this was a great demo. It's so fun. The original game for the Super NES was one of my favorites that I used to play all the damn time and then just seeing like these weird little animal creatures talking to each other in normal voices and looking like quasi realistic, but still holding on to that sort of cartoonishness. Yeah, this was a great demo. Wonderful, wonderful way to do it. And if you haven't played it, what the hell? Man, go out. It's free. It's a free demo. You can play it and enjoy it. It looks great . It's surreal. It is genuinely surreal to see this looking like this. Like it's got this like seventies prag rock album cover delicious it's like this part we're looking at right now, especially where if you're listening to the show, like the RWing is just like blasting through this like weird black hole b,right red , pinkish like, you know, it looks like you're in a lava lamp. It's just so it's so cool looking. Seeing the upgraded textures and all that and sound effects, it controls so well. Like it's weird because I don't I don't have nearly the nostalgia that I have for Zelda as I do Starfox . The original SNES one for me was like one of those games where I was like, okay, this is this is cool. It's a technical marvel, but it wasn't like I was so hooked on, you know, RPGs and two D side scrollers at the time that Starfox for Super Nintendo was more like an interesting kind of novelty to me than something that I went back to to play all the time. And then when the N sixty four one came out, I was like, well, I don't really care about this franchise, but I need a rumble pack. Like I need I need the thing that plugs into my controller that makes it shake because that's crazy. No one's ever done that before. Like I've been to arcades where like the whole machine shakes or something like that or like there's you know, g,imm gickimmicks like that. But for video game controllers, that blew my mind. And then I brought the game home and I ran through it that afternoon . And then I found out about, you know, the branching paths and all these weird optional things that you can do to sort of divert your playthrough. And I played it again and again and again and it became one of my favorite N sixty four games and it was so special and then I did the you know when it, came to three DS I loved, that there too. And so like playing this demo, I actually like I played it for about for I probably did about half the demo and then I was like, I'm good. I don't want to look anymore. I don't want to spoil anything else. And I just kind of put the contro ller down and walked away . And I texted Yogan. I was like, I was at the Nintendo store. And they have the Starfox demo and you're like, yeah, it's the one on the e shop and I was like, man . I thought it was so cool. I was like, My uncle works at Nintendo and he let me in and no it was so I don't know, this is out now so go play the demo because you can judge it for yourself but I can't wait. This is it's so cool what they're doing with this thing. Yeah . Yeah, Seth, any more thoughts ? Oh, no, I didn't even is this part of the demo, this nebulous? It's the alternate path in the demo. Yeah. I didn't. Okay, well now I get to go back and play the demo again because I didn't know that you could access the alternate paths and that is very exciting because the one like when I was done I was like, no, that's not all there is. Let me play more and I couldn't. But now I can, and I'm very excited about that. That's the one of the things that I lo theved most about the original was all those just weird alternate paths and finding the weird slot machine that you could beat the game with. Yeah. I hope the slot machine makes a return.lease P, please Nintendo, bring back the slot machine action for Starbucks on Nintendo Switch two. It's just crazy kind of the one hundred and eighty that I and a lot of people have done on this remake, right? Like I don't think we've had a normal episode since I previewed it. So I'll talk about that a little bit here as I was not hot on the announcement and then I started to watch the direct more and I'm like, actually this looks incredible and it's kind of cool that a Nintendo game like this is getting like such a reimagined story and cutscenes in art direction while keeping the levels intact. That's neat. I like that. And then I flew New York and I'm like, Okay, I'm flying across the country to play two levels of a game that's been out for thirty years. Like we'll see how this wins me over. And then I walked out and I was just like glowing at how good the game feels to control and how good it looks. Like it is a marvel. Like the game feel of the RWing is perfect. It is the best Starfox has ever controlled. It's the best it's ever s ounded. Like the metal clanks when you take down a group of bogeys is just phenomenal and then it's just gorgeous. Like it's on rail so it's easier to make a game look really pretty and we have control over every moment. It's one of the best looking Nintendo games ever. Like in motion for sure. And watching the director whatever doesn't do it justice to seeing it on a four case screen yourself . Yeah, one hundred percent, you have to play it. You have to start the demo to really understand like , oh, they did it. Those crazy bastards did it. I've said for years, we've all said for years. Everybody has said that, you know, Nintendo doesn't need to chase the sort of next gen ultra high fidelity graph ics that its competitors do. There's, you know, diminishing returns there. There's an uncanny value there . But this looks really good. Yeah. This looks really good. And I hope I don't want them to be backed into this corner forever and make everything look like this. And I also don't think this looks realistic because I've never seen anything like this in my life. Period. Right. No, no, slippy does not look like frog. No . I love them though. I love his guy so wet. I love his design. Really hilarious . He's really yeah, he's really wet. And the other guys are just like I've said it before, they look like they have fleas. Yeah, no, that's the perfect description. They do have they have mange. Like you could see at the end of a long day , Fox getting up on the couch and putting his leg over his head and just scratching it in his ear like Chris. Get his helmet off . And it works and the voice acting is really, really solid . And yes , the new training mission's really cool because you're not just alone learning from what Yaru DuPont that Danuki that teaches you. It's like your other guys are there too. You're all in these VR headsets, slippy breaks your wing and Falco cranks up the difficulty to like two hundred percent and the whole thing shuts down. Like it's it's just very cinematic. Is the right word for this? They are caring more about their story and presentation in this than they generally do in Nintendo games. And that's just a really fascinating thing to see applied to Starfox. Yeah. It's also in like a really fun and kind of Saturday morning cartoony, totally kind of way, even though it 's completely like really good CGI. It's a story that just complements a wonderful game. I mean, I've obviously only played the one level so that might all go downhill. But yeah, if I had one complaint, it's that Falco's voice doesn't sound like it's supposed to sound to me because I played the superintendo and he's going Robert Bringing Darby. And he had this really deep, really deep voice and now he's just like a fox. I don't know about this. You gotta he sounded like that unintelligible sixteen bit . Oh, I love it. Well, I mean , dude, when you beat Starfox on six or on Super Nintendo, you get like a three second clip of them saying, Congratulations, Starfox. Head back to Corneria now. And it's like, oh my god, the game is talking to me. It was worth the hours ye.ah, awesome Nobody cares about that anymore. Yeah. Good luck. Yeah , that was good. That was good. Absolutely can't wait for Starfox. I think that when people get this in their hands, and which you can with the demo, you'll see, you'll see that it's really good remake. Did either one of you try it with the mouse controls? Yes. I did in my preview in New York. I was the one steering the ship though, not using the mouse controls. My co op partner was using the mouse controls. And we did very well and they looked pretty good. Did you? Nice . No, I forgot that 's a thing. Yep. Yeah, it's a I mean it's a tech demo for how you could make hidoris work on Switch two. So get working on that, please. Well, let's talk about what else we're playing before we wrap up here. Brian, what are you planning on switch right now? So transparency, IGN Live took a lot out of me. It was a lot of work going in. It was a lot of work during the Thank you, by the way, to everyone who came to our meeting greet. Who came to our to NVC live and beyond live and all the segments that we got. It was so much fun meeting so many wonderful, sweet people who said that they've been listening to us for the longest time, genuinely recharged a battery in me and filled my heart with joy. So thank you all so much for coming . But I came back and I was like, I need, you know, I had just finished Twilight Princess with my kid, ten out of ten game. Still love that game, love it more than ever. And I needed something that was just I needed like a just mashed A button number go up kind of game, right? So you remember a couple years ago on Steam Deck, I played this game called Dismantle, and I wanted to see if it was on Switch . And it is, and it's called Dismantled, and it is a dis ormantled. It is an open world dismantle with the Wikipalis DYS M A N T L E . And basically you just go around this world and you get stronger and your ability to get stronger lets you destroy more objects. And eventually almost everything in the world can be destroyed and then turned into resources, which can then be used to make your weapon stronger and craft new clothes and all this other stuff, right? So it's basically this sort of cartoony doesn't take itself too seriously kind of top down open world game. And it's got little dungeons in it and stuff like that, which have very like mild zelda puzzles . And I'm pretty burned out on like open world zombie whatever, right? But I think with this it was just it's just doing enough for me. And this game's been out for a couple years, so it's nothing new here, but it runs great on Switch two. There's a ton of stuff to do. It I played it for like eleven hours since IGN Live ended and it peeled back pulled that back on the map a little bit and I'm like, oh, I've only seen like twenty percent of this game. So it is it is a big meaty game and I don't even know you could get a gun . And yeah, so I don't know. I love it. It's just got a bunch of features from various other video games glued together in a way that makes it really fun for me. And I just needed something sort of chill and it's been great. So yeah, if you're looking for something that's sort of like, you know, while you're listening to podcasts or like, you know, you're re watching a show that's on that you've seen a million times or something like that, you need like some sort of second screen distraction. This one's awesome. And I think it's also on every other platform and mobile and stuff like that. So yeah, check it out. Cool a is it switch two or just Switch one? Do you know? I think it's just Switch one, but I'm playing it on Switch two and it runs great. Okay, cool. Seth, how much you would you play ? I every year I play six hours of Final Fantasy seven remake so I've been playing that my six hours annually. I am not playing it on the Switch two . I did I have played it on Switch two and it runs remarkably well for what it is . But yeah, I'm chapter nine, I'm a Craneo's thing. I'm trying to, you know, get into his mansion by being as sexy as possible . So I just beat the hell house and yeah, I love Final Fantasy and I really just need to finish this game for God's sake. I've been playing it forever . And there's no excuse. There's no excuse whatsoever . So that's what I've been playing and I'll probably the next one and I'll probably play Revelation when that comes out. But I know Logan, you do not like the next one. So yeah, that's just amazing thing. That's games like universally loved. I just don't like the open world. That's one of my biggest pet peeves in games is like just super checklisty formulaic open worlds with towers that then bar two thousand icons on your map. I do not like those games and that's kind of what rebirth is that kind of I'm also not a huge fan of the checklist type of gameplay, but we'll see. I have like I have like a folder on my phone of that logan and I'll just I'll like take a video every time I see it happen ing in a game and then I just save it and I text it to some friends . I did it with the new forts of game . I beat a race and the map pulled out and it just was like bing e and like six literally like six ty five logos and it was it was like forty seconds. And I liked that game, but I was like, there's got to be a better way. The Hyru ors games are notorious for them. Like when you beat a level in age of imprisonment, you get a couple new characters. It takes like a minute the two million things you can do now. That's that's in my folder also that one and I also really like that game, but yeah, that 's so egregious with that. Yeah. Yeah, and revelations coming to Switch two on release day, which is very cool. Yeah, they've caught up. It's crazy. Yeah , I think that this last week of summer games, whatever was just really encouraging for Switch two to see how many games are coming to this that are new . Like Resident Evil Veronica is coming to Switch two just like Requiem did. Like Capcom is every Capcom game comes to Switch two. Like it's just they're getting really awesome support . I've been playing Nintendo's first mobile game in quite some time. It's called Picto Nico . And yeah, this just launched randomly a couple weeks ago and it is literally warriorware but with your camera roll and it is hilarious. I didn't expect to like this game as much as I do, but it actually plays like Warrior Wear and it's really fun micro games using your phone touchscreen, but it throws your whatever photos you allow it to see, it will kind of use these photos in the minigames. So example, there's one where it's like make exact change and the cash register shows like two thousand dollars and you see a bunch of bills on the counter with five hundred like hundred do,llars one bills and see you drag two thousand dollars worth of these bills into the cash register. But the faces on the bills aren't residents, it's me and like my wife and like my friends. And then after you do it, you know, like Warrior Wear has these really hilarious kind of very brief celebration animations where like they'll smile or they'll cry at you or they'll scream or they'll laugh. They animate your faces to do that. Like you'll have this really cheeky grin after you do the money one of your face on this dollar bill. And that's just great. There's one where it's like these very chiby Japanese construction workers, like that's their outfit and their design, but their faces are your friends. And they're like bouncing around this construction site and it's like find blank and it shows you the face it wants you to find and then you tap them and then they like all flex together. So it's Warriorware. It's made by intelligence systems. It's definitely made by the Warriorware team. It's just not the Warriorware brand. So it's a free to start game. You can try it. And then the packs are like seven ninety nine cents for the first pack of micro games and I think five ninety nine cents for the second pack. And there's more packs coming, but that's it. It's not like pay a dollar to keep playing. There's no micro transactions like that . It's just content packs you buy. So technically the game costs fifteen bucks if you want to buy everything it has. And if you're craving warriorware, it's been a little while since one. I would try the free games to see what you think because it's pretty fun Yeah. Do you think the content packs are worth it? Yeah, they add I can check right now, but I think they each add over fifty micro games. They each add a really good number of micro games, and then there's kind of a campaign path that wants you to do. And like they add the higher difficulty levels like Wariwear does where it's like, oh , the dollar amounts get more confusing or you have to tap more than one thing or there's one great micro game that's like a rollercoaster and there's like two people in it and Brian, you were in one of them and your hands were up and it's like whose hands are up and then I tap your face and then later there was one with like four people on the roller coaster and it's like who was sitting third . So it's very warrior stuff, but I think the content packs are worth it. If you like warriorware, it's a really fun just time waster on your phone that is a good mobile game. Like Nintendo turned out a pretty solid mobile game . I appreciate how many opportunities Nintendo has given you Logan. This in the last two months to make me do weird Tomodachi life and now this Yeah. Yeah, you're like, oh you're in a dog costume like screaming screaming into the sea . Yeah, I got to do it. Yeah. No because I gave it like my photos from the last two weeks 'cause I didn't want to import my whole camera roll. So like all my photos with friends and people from IGN Live were in there. So you guys both showed up a bunch and like Max Scoville was in and he was just doing ridiculous things and yeah some of my wedding photos are in there and it's just like so stupid and and great. So yeah, I highly recommend . And if there' thiss other you, can actually download these and share them. So something really funny happens. You can save them to your camera roll and then send them. So it's better than Tomodachi life in that regard too. Wow, yeah, why did why I'll never understand why they're just like nope at this time . Yeah, yeah, I'm surprised at how much I like it. Like I thought I was just gonna be like, oh, whatever, I'll only play this because of the show so I can talk about it. But no, I genuinely think I'm going to try and reach the credits to this game because I love Warriorware and it's like Warrior Touched where it's just a touchscreen dragging things around. I'm trying to see how many games there are right now. Face Raiders . Oh yeah, I remember that. Yep, Face Raiders is good., Y thereep's fifty games in volume one, which I think is the seven hundred and ninety nine cents and then in volume two, which is a couple bucks cheaper. There are thirty games . Wow , so yeah, and I think they're going to add more over time. So we'll see. I have no idea how many people are playing this. I have not heard a single thing about it, but it's kind of a Nintendo Gem that's on Android and IOOS instead of Switch. So cool, check it out. And then the other thing I'm playing is the DK challenge , which is oh yeah that core achievement system that Nintendo kind of added to Nintendo Switch Online. And there's two halves to this. One half is your tackling challenges in classic DK games available on Switch online. So it's like Donkey Kong country, beat the minecart level and you hit the card and it launches you straight into that level in that game . It's pretty mediocre. I got to be honest. It's because the challenges aren't like get all the bananas or beat it in this number of time. It's just like it'd be like if it was a Super Mario Bros. Beat World one , you did it . Beat World one four. It's like they're not really challenges rather than just play this portion of the game. So they're pretty barefoot. I beat about eighty percent of these and I totally agree . I'm actually more fascinated from a system level how just how it was communicating from these from these challenges to jumping into a specific moment in the game, to hopping back out into the Switch two's OS. I was kind of like, oh, that's that's sort of a unique loop happening there. But yeah, it's it's a reminder that there's a lot of not great Donkey Kong games. ones ? Donkey Kong, Jr. Math? Oh, okay . Like Donkey Kong, Jr. Math and Donkey Kong three are like a third of the challenges in this and they're bad. They are bad. Like those are Stanley the Bugman real quick Stanley the Bugman is the protagonist of Donkey Kong three. He's my pick for the next Smash Bros character if soccer comes back. You know he's putting in someone ridiculous and I want to see Stanley the Bugman. I would love that. It is sort of fascinating to see because Donkey Kong three basically tank this franchise for a while. Yeah . So it is it's it's interesting . It 's the kind of thing where you're like how is this ever the right call ? You know , like as a follow like Donkey Kung one, you're playing as jumpm,an right or mister Video or K A Mario and you're going up these, you know, this construction site and you're saving Pauline and then this, you know, everything comes toppling down and you kill Donkey Kong. And Donkey Kong, Jr. You get to play as Donkey Kong, Jr. Mario is in a cage and he's you know, or Donkey Kong's in a cage you sneak up there and blah blah blah blah blah . And then Donkey Kong three you're like, you're a gardener. And you work you work at the flower shop and you have to you have to spray the this monkey in the legs . Yeah. All right. And what else do you do? You just have to do it a lot. Yeah, monkey kong three is not good. Yeah, it's just it's a weird and I know people will be in the comments defending it. I'm not sure I'm not. sure they will be. I don't know. People there's people who are like ice climbers is my favorite Nintendo games . Oh man, sure, whatever. Yeah. You guys champion is game ever made, sure. Okay, whatever you say. But no, I think it's cool to revisit some of these Donkey Kong games. And I like the card system. I just don't this was an odd one for me. I had fun with it. I did it for forty minutes . Did you do any of the bonanza once? No. Yeah, so that's on the other side of this and this is the side of them. I'm, of course, much higher on because I still will take any excuse to jump back into DK Bonanza. And there's some crazy hard challenges in this that I have not been able to beat yet. And wow . One of them is beat the final level of the game, like the final bonus level you get for collecting one hundred percent of everything in the game with zero skills. So you go to one of the elders, you wipe all of your skills. So you have three hearts, your bonanzas are terrible. They can't do anything and like you can't punch through anything because you're weak and then you have to beat the hardest level in the game like that. And they have a video example of how you're supposed to complete this. And it is like using all the crazy speedrun techniques that I learned a year ago to play and like that I use an Emerald Rush all the time. Like Nintendo is showcasing them. It's unbelievable. Some of the stuff they're asking you to do in this. It's super cool. The only kind of annoying thing is this one doesn't work like the DK Challenge side one does. You have to go and find them yourself within DK Bonanza. So it's like eat this challenge room in this amount of time and if you click A it just launches bonanza to the title screen and then you have to go so it's more like classic achievements on PlayStation in that way where you have to kind of track these things yourself but, this is a way better execution of the concept than the DK challenge side, which is pretty mediocre. Did you do them? Not all of 'em. I can't do that last one yet. I've done eight or I've done ninety percent of them. I have two left I think that I can't do y et because they're really, really hard. Like one of them's beat the boss rush with no skills equips. You have to beat every boss in the game with three hearts and like no punch power. It's cool. Like I'm glad that they did this and I think it's disappointing their limited time . I also think that's a huge miss. Like why are you ripping these away from us in two months? I think that's a that's a miss . They love it. They do . Yeah . Well, you know what else they love? Alarmo. I don't know if my chords are not long enough. It isn't. But they added DK Bonanza to Alarmo, which I just wanted to shout out because that's great. Here it is. Yeah, Pete punches the fractone at the top of the hour. And then I just wanted to shout out that Nintendo Music now has a desktop app. So before it was mobile only, but now you can listen to Nintendo music on your PC. Nice. Which is great. I do it all the time during work now. Yeah. I love getting those notifications from them. It always's one of my favorite . It'll just you'll just be like cooking dinner it'll be like six hundred forty one on a Tuesday and they'll be like songs from Diddy Kong's Conquest Why ? Who decided that right now? Like it's yeah, I don't know. They always do things in mysterious ways. Even this DK challenge thing, you're kind of like, what's this building towards? Like what are you guys getting at? Yeah, they're just like, No, man, we just, I don't know, we like Donkey Kong, you know? Yeah. No, it's sometimes there are times with announcements like they just added Wi Sports Resort after announcing Switchports Resort, but sometimes it's just like new Super Mario Bros. from two thousand five now on Nintendo Music I never wanted to listen to that soundtrack. But sure. So go check that out. It's a game chang er to have that on desktop
