Number Two and One Picks

You guys, welcome to another episode of Nostalgia. And now, as always, it's your host, Kelly Williams and today I am joined by a friend, a hawk girl anthropologist, the host of not aspirational Hannah Brown in parentheses, The goodood One. And right before you interered me, I was just imagining the Nostalgia and Now theme song like playing right before this and I got really excited. It always hypes me up Thank you, thank you. It is one that I'm very proud of. Shout out to Grace for that. Hannah. How are you I'm great. I'm better now that I'm here having this convent with you. I'm like so excited. I'm good. I feel like a hot girl summer is in like full effect. But I'm actually using this summer. I actually want to hear your thoughts about this. I feel like so often summer is associated with like slutty feral behavior And I'm using this summer to kind of like lock in and get organized and like Be feral but in a more controlled way. Like we're not going full bad summer this year. We're going like get your shit together, Carol, like Jennifer Aniston salad kind of way. And what are your thoughts on that? How do you feel about the summer? I hate the summer. I feel like I have the opposite of se or whatever seasonal depression, like not in the winter I have in the summer, because I gre up in the early two thousands, hate my body, hate wearing shorts. But I like that idea. I do. literally earlier today I said to Blair, I was like, we have to organize our pantry, which words I've never said before But it makes you feel so good. Like organized life, organized spirit, organized soul That's what I always say as of right now When do you feel like most organized? what is there a specific thing? 'cause for me, it's putting away clothes in like a good way instead of just throwing them in my draws? That is so true. I hate putting clothes away and I put it off as long as I can. But when you finally do it and you do a good job, that's like major. Also, I feel really organized on top of my shit anytime I change my sheets when I like know that I have fresh sheets to get into that And then also like anytime I finish some sort of meal prep, which I don't do all the time, but like if I take a Sunday where I'm like, I just prep these five things, I'm gonna to be eating healthy all week, then I'm like, wow, I'm super human. I know you just recently moved not too long ago. How was that process honestly a fiery lllscape and you want to talk about like not being on top of my shit. likeike I realized like last week, I was like, okay, so I found out like in October that our landlord at our old place was kicking us out of our house, which you've been to before? It's such a cute house. It was a huge loss. And then we moved in here end of January, and I realized I've been like emotionally eating and drinking like since October. And that's when I said, Hannah, it's enough already. You're not even enjoying it anymore. It's enough already. So you know, I'm like doing good now. we're settling in, we're vibing, still have some more stuff to do to make the house cut but like one step at a time, there's no need to rush. It's like learning to fly or falling in love and the immortal Wds of Jordan Sparks. Incredible American Idol winner. She does love some abusers. No is a big Chris Brown apologist or not my name. No. But she did give us battlefield in tattoo. Oh my God, sometimes just to feel something, I'll look up this so you think you can dance, battlefield, dance from like two thousand seven or whatever. It's really powerful I agree with you. I completely agree Yeah. Yeah. So today we are talking about rom coms. and for some reason, Hannah, I can't explain it But when you do get your big break, which is coming, I feel it for you, you're going to be the best friend in a Rom comom. That is the energy you give You make me cry. I was gonna say that's a big compliment because I love a best friend in a Rom com. Literally my biggest dream is to play like, yeah, any sort of best friend, but ideally like the like sluty coworker friend that's like in her shirt from like the meeting the day before being like, o my God, you will not believe what I got into last night or who got into me, you know, that kind of thing. It's coming. I feel it. I feel it coming. Thank for you. M, Kelly, I receive that. That is so kind. You're so welcome So we are going to start with a this or that, but it's Rom comom themed. okay? I'm so excited. Enemies to lovers or friends to lovers Oo enemies to lovers all day. What about you It depends on the couple It really does. I do love when like a best friend they're all of a sudden, they're like like in when a date with Tad Hamilton, or all of a sudden' like, oh, Topa Grace does know all my smiles. But I don't always love that because sometimes I feel like the friend's just a loser That's so true. It really depends on the friend. That movie, by the way, is so criminally underrated, and I hadn't seen it until this year. And I was like, this movie's awesome It's so good. We just rewatched it recently and I was like, it's also really funny. likeike Josh DemMell's hysterical in it He's very funny and also like very hot. And I never knew that I felt that way about him, but like in that movie I was like, I get why she's like under this man's spell. I would be too when Harry met Sally or you got maail W I'm gonna to go, you've got maail. That's a good a good choice. I agree. It's just like fall in I mean, they're both fall in New York, I guess, but I don't know, I'm just such a sucker for you've Gut mail. How to lose a guy in ten days or the proposal? How doose gu in ten days? I agree. Yeah. Frost yourself trust yourself is so we should bring it that back. We should frost yourself. Lies, Wh needs men? ladies, frost yourselves The only big thing about the proposal is Betty White is obviously Sandra, we love Sandy Bullock. L. Betty Whiten it is pretty incredible. Totally. and Ryan Reynolds unfortunately, like, ruins everything and even more now than he did then. Slow burn or love at first sight Oh I think I like a slow burn. What about you? Same. I'm a big slow burn girl Bea then the payoff is just like and you're really kicking your feet, having the best time Especially if it's in a TV show, I don't like when people like fall in love immediately. I need it to last at least like six give me six episodes before you start like realizing it No, I literally, even with off campus, I was like I could have done another like two to three episodes of them not knowing if they were going to be together. I'm gonna to be honest, I'm fast forwarding between the friends that are hooking up Oh, Dean and Allie? Yeah, I'm a little like, you're like, whatever. I'm like, okay, they fuck. They fuck and they're both like really hot. and it's like that's that. But like Hannah and Garret, they have more juice. There's more going overwh there I love Garrett and I didn't expect myself to love him Lovely young man. I absolutely love him Okay, a grand romantic gesture or a heartfelt speech Fuck I'm going speech for this one. speech except my one exception is Keith Ledger ten things I hate about you singing at the soccer field really did alter my brain chemistry like for the rest of my life You made your husband do that. You were like, I won't date you until Yeah, that and also the guy in Footloose learning how to dance in Latin for the b, whichich isn't a R rom Kom, but it's still a cute like moment. And I'm glad you brought that up because one of my honorable mentions I realized is a chick flick, not a rom Kong. And there's a big difference. and I didn't realize that. Oh I'm like, you know what? That's such a good point. I don't think I did either, right when I putting the together of my list, I was like, well, shit Opposites attract or right person wrong time. Oh. Honestly, I'm gonna say right person wrong time. Me too. That's I love it. I know, like we'll get into it, but like my best friend's wedding, I don't think Michael and Jules were actually each other's right person, but I like all the emotional stuff you go through wondering like are they each other's person or not? I think that's very fun. It's like a slow burn. We love it. Yeah, exactly, the drama A wedding rom com or a holiday rom com Oh fuck go wedding, I guess, but I love them both. What about you? Wedding, wedding room for sure. Yeah Okay, we're almost done, I promise. Noope, A you kidding? I could do this for eighteen years. A love triangle or absolutely no love triangles H I like a love triangle, but like a predictable one where you're kind of like, okay, I know that it's gonna work out in the end, but I like being like, ooh, is it Okay, the holiday are twenty seven dresses. Ooh, I think I gotta go the holiday. What about you? twenty seven dresses. I know Katherine Heigl is like a demon on earth Allegedly, but she was in some good stuff. I know. and her and James Marsron have great chemistry. and also like Melon Ackerman's character is such a demon. And I stand by the fact that Catherine Heichl did nothing wrong when she put together that slid showow I agree with you. I'm like bad. Yeah, that girl's a demon. She's manipulating a man into to marry her and he should know the truth Privacy. Okay, and this is the final one, a city Romcom or small town Romcom Ah, city. What about you Okay, if it's a wedding, I want it to be more small town, but if it's any other kind of rom com, I go city. Honestly, that's a really great distinction because I do love like a picturesque cute like tiny town that just feels very like aspirational and like it's kind of an escape just watching them go there. But then I love watching cities and Rom comes because they don't show any of the annoying parts. They just make the city look beautiful. Like New York and movies is amazing. I fucking hate New York. I'd never want to go there You know, after living there for three years, whenever I go back, I'm like, I don't I'm glad I left. Like New York just wasn't for me and I'm glad I can like, yeah, admit that now. 'cause at first I was like, no, it's great. I'm doing great. Meanwhile I'm out to like five AM every night losing my mind It's so overstimulating. and again, like I appreciate like I get why people love it, but I can't do it for more than like two or three days before I'm like, I'm ready to go home Yeah. no, I fully feel that So originally we were going to do a top ten list, but I realized Hannah and I would be here forever if we did that. So we're gonna to do a top five of our favorite Rom coms, but what are some of your honorable mentions? Okay, Honorable mentions a movie called Someone Like You with Ashley Judd Kaner, Hugh Jackman and Marissa Tome from the early two thousands. Oh, and Ellen Barkin is in it too And Tony Goldwin directed And it's just this really cute rom com where she like works at as a producer and she starts dating Greg Kaner and they have this like gnarly breakup and she becomes obsessed with like knowing like why. So then she like under a pseudonym like develops this whole theory about how like why men leave women for like other cows. But she has to develop this character of this like old lady with a PhD so that like people care about like her point of view. And then it, of course, blows up, and everyone's like, oh my Godd, who is this mysterious doctor? What is this theory? And then like, Hugh Ackman and her are like roommates and it's like That was all fun. Yeah, yeah. what about you? One of mine is actually twenty seven dresses. I really love that movie and for so long, I was always like, always the bridessmaid, never the bride. Like I really thought that was gonna be my journey. I've only been in four weddings, so not quite twenty seven. but I just I loved how it was shot. I loved the sing along in it with Benny and the Jets pro fun They also did some filming in Newport, Rhode Island, and that's one of like my favorite places in the world. And they filmed at a few of like the old mansions that you can visit. Katherine Heigl's charming. I enjoy her. And this movie so fun and like you said, her sister was a fucking demon A menace from hell. No, I think it's such a cute movie and I love Ed Burns and I think it's well written and it's funny And yeah, I mean, I think like, yeah, Catherine Heigl, like, unfortunately like I really for a long time was like justice for Katherine Heigo, like the punishment didn't fit the crime. and now that she's like, Maga, I'm like, okay, well fucking forget it then I know't know to tell you. It's like, gl you got firefly lane. We gave you another chance You ruined it again, again. My God. But she's great in that movie. I also had the wedding singer. I love Adam Sandler So deeply. Andrew Barrymore. so deeply. They both mean so much to me. And I feel like this was almost one of like the first adult movies I was allowed to watch as a kid. And yeah, I think Adam Sandler's hot I can't look It is hot. Grand gesture singing on the plane That true. I remember watching Big Daddy as a kid and being like confused. I was like, am I supposed to think that man's hot? Be I do being like, okay I know he's supposed be kind of a dud, but like this is doing a lot for me. And it's like, I don't even know, I don't even want to try and examine that Another one that I like is it's complicated and hitch M, Hitch. Oh my God. Hitch is one of those movies where like if it's on TV and I'm like on vacation or something, I'm like, well, I guess this is what I'm doing now. H always on TBS Oh. If it's not on k's one of those. And I'm like, all right, let's fucking go. Like I'm locked into hitch every fucking time. I'm sorry. The scene where he has an allergic reaction to the sushi class and his face blows up and he has to drink the medicine like a juice box. I mean, it just gets me every time Will Smith is another one for me where I love him, like how straight men love him. And it's like, I know he's not great, but he is Will Smith I really, I think about this sometimes. like something on TikTok the other day showed me like something from like the Oscars, the infamous slap with him And I was like, I just miss when Will Smith was like America's like buddy, like America's brother, America's best friend, America's boyfriend. L he has Riz and he was so, he like is a very handsome man. And I'm just like, it's sad to me as a millennial, just how many people we grew up with who we admire that have been like disgraced over the years. I know. He was America's sweetheart, him and Julia Roberts, the two of them O enough. I love them My last two that didn't make it Nick and Nora's Infinite playlist. It was going to be in my top five, but I haven't seen it in so long that I felt like it doesn't count. If you guys listening haven't watched it. It is so fun And there's a drunk best friend Caroline, who's like one of my favorite characters ever That girl is good in everything. Everything Everything amazing. Have you ever seen the movie ten years? I always try and push people to watch. Yes, the one with the high school or college reunion, which one The highigh school reunion channing tatum and stuff. And everyone's in it. It's so fucking good. Including her. Yeah, she's great in it. That movie is so underrated. That's one that I watched like on a random Saturday. I think I was a little hungover and I like drew the blinds and I was like, what's this? Everyone's in it? And I was like, wait, this movie's fantastic No one talks about it. No, honestly, and you should be a brand ambassador just for that movie I should. I talk about it a lot, evenven on beyond the blinds. and like anyone ever heard of it? and everyone's like, no You shouldd be getting residuals. Yeah. Chin and call me Channing, call her. We have you seen the movie Roockan with Darryl Hannah and Steve Martin? No That's not aary mentioned on Myilas too where basically it's like Syerno de Bergerac, but like in the eighties, where like he has like a big nose. He plays this guy named Charlie and he has a crush on Daryl Hannah, but Daryrel Hannah like wants someone else. So he like helps the dumb dumb guy like say romantic things to her and she thinks that it's his words, but it's actually Steve Martins and it's like But he's not the hot one. He has a giant nose. likeike he has like a long nose. like it's like, you know, peak comedy But like it's very sweet. It's really cute Well, it sounds like Win a date with Tad Hamilton maybe stole some things from Roxanne Probably. I mean it's I love that too, like when it's like like a classic tale of like misunderstanding, you know, I love that kind of stuff Oh and to all the boys I've loved before. Okay now I'm just naming like every movie ever, but that one's so good. No, my last honorable mention is the movie I realized was a chick flick, not a Rom com in it's How to Be Single It's one of my all time favorite movies. and I'm likeie I was trying to argue with Blair about why it should be a rom Kong. I was like, but she falls in love with herself. She's like, yeah, it doesn't matter Oh God, that movie is so good. It's very inspiring and I like that she falls in love with herself in the end. You know, on Beyond the Blinds, we did like a top ten movies of all time and it was pretty jarring that Rebel Wilson is in three of my favorite movies of all time. She's in How to be single, The Bachelorette and pitch perfect Oh my God. The playay of Bachelorette is like one of my favorite plays. It's so f good. Oh it's I didn't even know it was a play. Yes. I was in it in Chicago many years ago and I played the Isla Fisher role Yeah The one I said you'd play. It was so fun. I literally I would do it again tomorrow. But Rebel Wilson really had a good run there in like the early twenty ten s where she just did a lot of really good fun movies. And then something happened Something something right. You know, the theory that like know that's theory like Brneypeears like Yeah, don't say it too loud. Troy will hear you. I know, I know. I do not believe that theory by the way. But there is something about Rebel that feels very body snatched to me where I'm like, whereere did Fat Amy go? And it's not just because she got skinny, It's like spiritually, whereere did Fat Amy go Her like happiness left her eyes at some point. I think it was during this Sy movie with Anne Hathaway, I would assume. I think it was like that and cats, like back to back. I think she was just like, I have nothing left. And honestly, I kind of get it Cat's apologist. I hate myself for it U I have the record of Cats. Is the movie? No, but will I watch it? Yes. you know. I like the old one, the one that used to be on PBS sometimes because theam tuucker was really hot to me as a child. It was like a big awakening. Well, speaking about, I know we just talked about New York, but they just did Kats the Jellico ball and I went to it in Rum Tum Tuger still hot, Obviously a different person, but they had the right casting for him I love that. Wait, is that one that they did where it's like,, it's like a ballroom version of cs basically? Was it amazing? I cried like twice. It was so incredible. and I've never gone to a Broadway show where they want you to like sing along to certain songs and get up and dance. and the whole time, it's like the original Broadway cats where the cats like mingle in the audience. so they still did that. It was such a beautiful recreation of it. Wait, that's so fun. Yeah, I remember seeing a clip of cast like doing a rehearsal on my TikTok feed and I commented like, okay, this is the only version of cats I actually want to like pay to go see And it got like a bunch of likes. Yeah. I hope it's been on for a long time. I know, me too. I want them to get up in my face and like hiss Oh like match. And like, o. Okay, you guys, so we are about to start with our top five wrongcs of all time, which is a big thing to put on a list is what I've realized. and I' realized people aren't gonna like my list. I'm gonna like your list There is not a Julia Roberts to be found on my list. and that is my truth. So my number five is a movie that hasn't aged well, but I watch it every year Just friends. Mm, Brian Reynolds H. I do love that movie though Yeah, Ryan Reynolds is in it. We don't like fat suits anymore. fully understand that that's unacceptable. but I kind of love the idea of like being made fun of in high school and then doing things out of spite because I feel I still do that at times. E everything I run on is from Spite. And Amy Smart, where did she go I think about this a lot because she's so good and she's so beautiful and so funny and like She was great in butterfly effect, even though that movie's like really fucked up. Yeah, she was so beautiful. She was so great in this. She deserved more Rom coms. Even Chris Klein is really funny in it. I the brothers like fighting Anna Farris deserved an Oscar for this role I agree. So this is both a Christmas movie and a Romcom movie, in my opinion. Again, hasn't aged the best, but that's okay You know, and again, like talk about like millennial things we enjoy that we're like quote like not allowed to or not supposed to like anymore. And it's like, yes, but it's still like the fabric of like who I am and like certain nostalgic things still mean a lot to us. And so I think we can hold these multiple truths and be like, no, this was not okay, but also I do still hold a candle for this film because of what it meant to me like during my like formative years Exactly, and me and my friends still quote like, I'm busy, you dick. Like we think that's so funny or when she kisses Darla. She's like Darla. And then at the end she's like, I want another girl. We can have Darla though. I don't know It's just in I probably like it mostly for Anna Farris more so than like the actual storyline Oh my go, and the mom when he's when the brother's like, I just like spanked the hand to your poster and she's like, Ohh, I hope it wasn't the hand I just bought What an incredible impression of her. Thank you so much. She's an icon. I truly though, like I sometimes feel like Anna Ferris in that movie when I go to small towns. M too Like sometimes I'm like, oh, TJ. likeike I truly I like I can't take any of this seriously, which is not nice But it's my truth. I got it. I love like a bad bar, a dive bar in a small town. It's fun.ame. because there's like two people there and you can kind of just feel like, wow, like look at Miko, a big city slicker in this cute city little town, which is so again, like so condescending. And more power to anyone who lives in a small town and loves it, it just couldn't be me. Yeah What's your number five, Hannah My number five is, I'm gonna say how toose guy in ten days because it's obviously very obvious But I do think it's the perfect rom com in many, many ways. And I think Just what a gift to live in a time where we got to see Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey be like hot and young funny and sexy together. Like also, I was in the grocery store with Jake yesterday and the Keith Urban song from that movie I was like, there's a no envelo and like I've never known. When they're like who's teaching me to ride the motorcycle I was walking down like the aisle the grocery store, and I heard the sign. Id turned it Jake and we both just pointed to the speakers on the ceiling because we're both like fucking love this song. We love this movie. So that's my number. And Katherine Han as the best friend O Yeah, that movie, I don't know how it didn't make my list. I do know how it made my list. I had to remove it for my number four. But Kate Hudson. T to me is just the forever cool girl And she's such like a blueprint of that cool girl, especially in that movie. Mhm Yeah. and I also love like speaking of going back to a small town, even though it's like not exactly the same, but when she goes back to Matthew McConaughe's house and like plays bullshit with the family. I remember the first time I visited Jake's family in Kansas City I was like text to my friends being like, I feel like husand h this guy in ten days right now because he has like a big, like snugly family that hangs out and does things together. And I was just like, that movie really just like changed my life and the fashion still holds up, the yellow dress will forever be a moment I just love it And they look so good together Oh my God. You know, I have complicated feelings about Matthew McConaughe because I'll watch like early Rom coms, like the wedding planner and Title L's Gy Tend Days. I'm like, he's so fucking hot in those movies But then like I don't think I could ever like take him seriously, like IRL. Like I like the characters. like I have a crush on the characters, but like Matthew McConaghe in real life is like kind of a trip I think it's the voice. Yeah. ye. I really think that I just can't imagine like having a full conversation and like like and taking it seriously. If you guys don't know, on podcasts, especially like a female led podcast, there are always reviews being like, she sounds shrill. Her voice is grating. Whatever. I'm like, that is Matthew McCaughe's voice to me. It is grating to my ears Yes, it's so true. There's never room for women to have any sort of vocal qualities that are the slightest f bitit unique. Meanwhile, Mthew McCany is like, whoa, hy, hey, right here. And it's like, all right enough. And he's trying to sell me a car or a credit card or something from Staples at this point. Yeah, I'm like, buddy, I'm not buying a Lincoln. Stop asking I've had enough. All right. so my number four is like your hitch where if it's on television, we're staying in and watching it, something borrowed I love that movie It's controversial It is controversial. People really hate it M me I love it So Jennifer Goodwin's in it who I typically don't like And he's fucking annoying Kate Hudson's in it, John Krzinski and Colin Egglesfield, and Steve Howey's in it. But basically it's about two friends turning on each other over a man. Typically not my favorite kind of movie, but they play it so well. And when Kate Hudson's character walks into that apartment, And she's like I know Dex is here. I know you've been lying to me, chills. immediate chills. I know She's so fucking good. Jennifer Goodwin, LF how I'm like, God, women can't have any sort of crap with about people being mean to them. And I'm like, can Jenifer Goodwin just shut the fuck up? But it's not her fault. She was cast as annoying characters. I'm sure she's a lovely person. She was just, she went through this period where she was always cast as the like desperate like like pining girl. You're right, What's that other movie with everyone in it? He's just not that into you. Yeah. Yeah. evenven when a date with Tad Hamilton, she's kind of the annoying friend in that. She did Yeah roles even She's' walked the line as Johnny Cash's wife, which is confusing because his wife in real life was mixed Um Yes. Right, That's crazy. I know That's a whole different story. L that's the first time I'm hearing that's genuinely wild And during the movie, you're like, I hope he cheats on her Yeah, youre like get out of there. she sucks Jake and I watched something borrowed in the pandemic once and we just made fun of the whole thing. But like when it was over, I was like, we should start it again. That was a ride It's definitely one you can make fun of, but it's one that like if it's on, I'm not moving. No, we're doing it. I love Yeah My number four is going to be and again, this I don't know I considerered a romcom the preacher's wife with Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington. I would say so. Right? Because it's like even though she stays with her husband and doesn't get with Denzel Washington spoiler alert listeners, there is a moment where you're like they're ice skating together to a Whitney Houston song, My Heart is Calling. And you're like, okay, but she could leave her husband for this ghost right now. And like I don't know that I would be mad about it She shouldve. they were so hot together. I mean, my fucking God. L I just think that movie puts me in the best mood. I cry every time I just and it's like two hours and fifteen minutes long and I'm like, it could be three hours and fifteen minutes long. I wouldn't fucking care. I just think it's a perfect film Do you miss a ninety minute movie I do so much every day I'm alive Every day, I'm like, I don't need Devil Wears Prada to be over two hours You know how I blame? You know how I think started this? Tell me, Jud Apatau Because this is fory is literally like a two and a half hour movie. and I'm like, This is forty had no goddamn business being over an hour forty five. And I like that movie, but for what it is I'm like, It just bothers me. And I feel like nine times out of ten, it's like when a man writes a movie, they're like, give them all the pages and all the time and all the money and then like I don't know. I haven't done any research to back that out, but I'm just like, Jud Appatau, you could write two hundred and forty five page movie that's just like about two people who are forty, like enough toooo much, Jud. It' It's crazy. I'm glad you feel that way too. And I mean, at this point, we're always on our phones. Our attention span is zilch. and I've even read that like They're trying to make movies as a second screen so you could still be on your phone and pay attention to the movie. And it's like Just make it ninety minutes, makeake it a clean ninety, and let's keep it moving I'll put my phone in the other room knowing that I'm only committing to ninety minutes without it. and I'll have a great time. Apparently when they made the rip with, you know my boy Ben Affleck, my Postonian gang They were like, yeah, we had to like say the plot like fifty times because Netflix is like people are going to be on their phones. But then even then when I saw it and I put my phone in the other room, I still was like was that actually about So can you tell me what happens at the very end of that movie? And if you guys want to watch the rip maybe fast forward because I had like fifteen minutes left and I was like, I can't do this. It's when they realized like Kyle Chandler was the bad guy. Yeah. And I was like, we've already had like three twists. I can't have one more. What else happens? Yeah? I literally tell you, I don't know. I think they like have ice cream by the beach at the end. Like I think I and met Damon are like,, that was a doozy with like, Diana Taylor. and like that's I literally don't remember. And I didn't have my phone with me I remember finishing the movie being like, I feel like AI wrote that movie. But this cast, you had Rachel Lee Cook, Freddie Print Jr., Matthew Lillard, Paul Walker, Anna Pacquin, Kirion Culkin, Gabrielle Union, Lil Kim Usher I mean, Incrediblyrazy. It was incredible. The soundtrack was so good. The Rockefeller Skank will forever like get me on a dance floor and off my ass. Yeah. Also like, yeah, Matthew Willer doing that. give it to me, baby dance like. Anytime it's about to be Leo's season, I just picture him in my head like pointing to a tattoo of himself on his arm. I was like, that's how I feel being a Leo during Leo's season. And Sixpence numb the richer playing as she's walking down the stairs. And Freddie Princh Jr.'s like, maybe she is pretty. It's like no shit Do you remember when she has to wear the Falafel hat and that guysy like superersize my balls? I love I also Taylor Vaugh, what a villain, haveave a lot to vote for Taylor, What a bitch. Yeah, she was so good. And yeah, I just love that it created this whole like An, I'm gonna to use bllueprint again, but it's like just take the glasses off and the girl will be the most beautiful girl you've ever seen in your entire life Mm. What's that movie where they make fun of Rom comoms? It's like a scary movie, but for Oh, another teenage movie. That was really funny the way they talk about she's all that He's like you, she has glasses and a Ponytail. There's one part where they're like walking by This is not going to be politically correct, but it's in the movie, an albino woman playing or girl playing guitar. And he's like, no' she's a musician. She's still hot. And then they show her. show Shiler Lee plays Rachel Lee Cook's character. sweetie. And they're like, u, she's the worst of the world. disgusting Oh so good Wait you said' we're in number three now, right? Number three. Yes. Okay, I'm going ten things I hate about you Okay That is a movie where like when it's over I'm genuinely sad. Like I get sad that I have to say goodbye to all these new friends I just made. And like knowing that Heath Ledter is no longer with us like is just tough. but I really think it just checks all the boxes for like a perfect Romcom. Again, another movie that I saw like in theaters when I was like eight years old, just being like, these are what like cool like teenagers are like. L Th these are grown ups and just thinking it was the coolest movie ever And just thinking Heath Ledger was like the hottest, coolest guy ever, but I was like embarrassed to tell people when I was like eight. Well, he was very like adult for you to be eight and be like, that's the one. And he was like a bad boy. So I was like, I was like, oh my God, that's so weird that I have a crush on this like long haired Australian boy, kangaroo boy You know, a trope we didn't talk about is I do love when the bad boy turns to a sofie. God, there's nothing better. Also like like Anthony Bridgerton in season two of Bridgerton, like when like, yeah, like a like a womanizing debag is like wait Actually I'm a sweetie. Ryan Gosling in crazy stupid love, onene of the best Character arcs ever Great trobe Maybe we should care about women and their feelings. That trope actually, Kelly, like ruined my life for a long time because I would go for guys that were total fuck boys and be like, no, no, but like I know how this ends. You fall in love with me and it's gonna to be fine. It's like, it's not fine guys. L don't date a project. If someone seems like they don't give a shit They probably don't. Don't wait for them to give a shit. It's not going to happen. And if it does,'s you're too good to be waiting around for it. You can also blame Audreina and Justin Bobby because I think that really imprinted on a lot of us that we don't talk about it, but we all wanted like a Justin Bobby experience. Yes. And like I think like a lot of it, like we kind of learned like as young people like, oh, well, if it'sysfunctional, then that means it's passion ming Like even if you watch the notebook, which is not a rom comom, but like it's like, you guys are fucking screaming at each other all the time. Like I don't know that that's the kind of relationship I want. You know, I have an episode planned where I talk about how like toxic love but make it sexy is kind of what we want of millennials, and I feel like I need you back for that stop, I would be honored. but it's true I mean, it really does. like it's like, what movie studios can we send our therapy bills to? Becauses it's a doozy. We're doing a lot to undo that. And I'm happy that we both have these like lovely, beautiful partners who love us and like that we're committed to, But like, I mean, for me, it was a bumpy ride, that's for sure Yeah, I mean, before we get into number two, I will say I remember like meeting Blire and being like, everything feels good. Is that okay? Like my nervous system? I'm kind of like Chill him Yeah, I panicked. I went to my therapist and I was like, what do I do? When he says he's going to text me, he actually does it and it stresses me out I'm like, I don't have to chase, I don't have to wonder what's going on. You're like, what do I do with all this free time and free energy that I can spend being happy with another human being? That's crazy Oh my God, that's so funny. So my number two is your number three. My number two is ten thingsings I hate about you. I love the speech that Cat gives at the end I hate the way I don't hate you, not even a little bit, not even at all. The first time I watched that movie, I think it was eighth grade when I saw it for the first time. I cried so hard And I loved them so much as a couple. Even their breakup at prom really affected me. Yeah. I still want to do that paint date where they just throw like balloons at each other, That looks like so much fun. Like you said earlier, the perfect Rom com and I love Julia Styles I love her too. And I also love Joseph Cordon Levitt as the geeky cameron We screwed. Also like sorry, back to the balloon dayate really quick. I remember going paintballing with friends as a child thinking that that's what it was going to be. And then when I got pelted with a gun peupw and got like welts all over my body. I was like, this is not what I was promised. No, that is terrible. And I also want to give a shout out to letters of Cleo who sang at the very end because they did all the music for Josie and the Pussy Cats. I know, I know. herer voice is so awesome. Like she's so fucking cool And then also the song that plays FNT by Semonic when they're doing that The balloon date is so good. That whole soundtrack is amazing. And Andrew Keeegan such a fun villain I miss him a lot. I don't wan to check on what he's up to now. Do you know He allegedly had a cult, but it was like a Kombucha cult. I don't know a ton about it But he also just did an interview recently and when I saw him, I kind of expected him to be the kind of guy to like Bo Tks. so I'm not trying to shame him. It's just like, I expected him to still look like Andrew Keegan, but he's not about that life and I kind of love it. He looks like someone who lives in the woods He's like, I'm not Joe Donner. I am Andrew Kegan. God, did you ever see the movie Camp Nowhere as a kid I think I have, yeah. It's like Christopher Lloyd, Andrew Keeegan's like the cute boy in the fr' so good. But I just remember seeing that movie as a kid and being like, that's the most beautiful young man I've ever seen in my entire life. Yes. I. And and then as Joey Donner, it's like so t' he's kind of like Warner and Lgally Bonde where It's like I know objectly this is a handsome man but his character is so awful, you just want to like punch him in the face and then Bianca does it. I love it two piece prom dress. So good And the dad's really funny, but the dad was hysterical. And Alis and Janny Yeah, Kat writing her smap. Yeah. Kat It's so good. I really think if I were to meet Julia Styles, I would have no chill. Like she's so important No, any celebrity I talk about, I would not be like if I met Kate Hudson, she would be like, uh. No I met Rachelie Cook at an Oscars party in my God March. And I said to her, I was like, I need you to know like Josie and the Pussy Cats is like an incredibly important film. and it was like so ahead of its time. I think it's more relevant now than ever. and like you were so amazing in it. And like she was like, thank you so much. That really means a lot to me. And I was like Rachel, I'm serious. You like grab her hands. like you need to know. But she was lovely. and I was just like, but as a millennial, it's like these girlies really do just like They were so cool. Like I just think like how lucky were we that we got to look up to these characters. Like Kat was like such a badass and yes, she was like moody and brooding, but she like didn't give a fuck what anyone thought of her. And she just kind of like held her ground no matter what. And I was like, she's fucking cool. And I liked her outfits Yeah, it's nice to see an unlikable character get so much love Yes. and it's like I would argue we wouldn't have she's the man without ten things I know about you because they're both based on Shakespeare That's right. I did a college Shakespeare class and just talked about how Shakespeare influenced the nineties and early two thousands. It was so fun really did. No, that's so fun. It really didn't, and it's always so funny, like or so fun, like watching those movies when you know the actual Shakes home story like, oh, this is who they're referencing. So fun My number two is my best friend's wedding M good one. I just I just think it's It's a perfect movie again, like Jules is such an anti hero. like she's actually a fucking demon and like The older I get, like I remember once I finally like was engaged, I was like such a Kimmy sympathizer where I was like, oh my Godd, like poor Kimmy, like Jules was putting her through fucking. and like in the grands game of All the shit that Jules pulled, Kimmy like being a bitch to her in a bathroom around a bunch of strangers is like the nicest thing she could have done, you know. I love the whole cast, obviously. I love Rupert Everett. He's amazing. It takes place in Chicago where I'm from, so many good performances in it, greatreat soundtrack. The funun fact about that movie though, is the ending originally was supposed to end in a flash mob of them singing S. It was like everyone like the staff like working the wedding was it was going to be a flash mob and like Jules was going to be on the phone. and then Aiden from Sax in the City of Jon Corbett was going to like be like, hey, can I talk to you? And she's going to be like, I'm on the phone right now? And then they were going to have like a little conversation and it was going to end with like, well maybe she'll get with this guy. And it tested terribly And I just love that the way it ended, I felt was so much more honest where she like had to kind of eat shit and be like, that was fucked up. And I have to say goodbye. But then like, you know she's still gonna be okay because she has her friends Yeah. alsoso a flash mob in ' ninety seven. I know. It's horrible. I think you can find it on YouTube. I looked it up once and I was like, this would have ruined the entire movie. Like, thank fucking God they changed it But I'm like, oh, just like, that movie just puts me in such a good mood. And I remember when I was in college, I like had a best friendship with a guy who was like such a fucking loser and like had a girlfriend and I remember feeling all these complicated feelings being like, oh my Godd, like I'm just like she wass and looking back, it's like, Girl enough But at the time, I was like, this movie speaks to me. And I mean, Julia Roberts just has that smile. She just brings you in and you're rooting for her even though you shouldn't be. I know. I know. And like, yeah, she could be doing the most fucked up thing and you're like, God, but you're so fucking likeable. And Cameron Diaz, I mean, she was so great in that movie. and I think Kimmy like with the wrong actor could have been like so crissy and uptight and annoying. And I think Camern Diaz is like naturally just so bubbly and likeable and fun that like I just think her natural essence made Kimmy like you're rooting for Kimmy too. We're like, no, wait, no Kimy deserves better than this. Kimy didn't need to be the bad guy for Jules to want to do what she did. And I think that's what's so smart about it Yeah. I also love. I always get Dylan McDermott and Dermittt Mulrononey. They don't look alike, but the names really all very Iish. Yeah. But I remember seeing it and just being obsessed and being obsessed with like, so I can kiss you whenever I want. her going back to her small town and falling back in love with like The guy that she thought she outgrew and her dad saying, you can have roots and wings. And I was like, I need chills right now? Oh my God Yeah in the scene in the dog cemetery or the pet cemetery I've seen this movie probably a hundred times. I'll still cry at it. I just think it's perfect. and I think it's a great like fish out of water, but like She shouldn't be a fish out of water, but she kind of made herself a fish out of water because she wanted to leave her hometown so badly. and Josh Lucas. Allegedly a really insane scientologist, but my God, was he hot in Seet homeome, Alabama and Patrick Dempsey in it? I mean You have a baby in andp Melanie Lindsstin. like so good I think if I was to cast myself in a movie, it would be Melanie Linds. She's amazing. I have always loved her gohe. And also, they talked about gayess, which you didn't hear often and nobody cared. People were just kind of like, do your thing, man. Yeah, becauseuse isn't it like her best friend from childhood like is gay but not out and she like says something and he gets upset and they kind of have to have like a little like meeting about it. where she's like, that was f. Yeah. It's like, what would Billy Ray doing at gay bar? Yes. everyveryone's like, o, yes. Oh I need to reatch that movie. It's been a while, but it is so good. And I'll forever want that black and red top that she's wearing. Yeah. Yeahah. and even the scene where Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas are driving and he's telling the story about Melanie or the girl who like blew up the bank and the cats still alive at the end eating their wedding cake, all of it and the mom having the pen for her to sign the divorce papers. I could go on and on. I could go scene by scene of this scene by scene bar for bar I really like a movie where it's like, yes, there is like a love story in it, but to your point, it's like she finds herself too. and it's And I also love a fun like ensemble piece and like getting to know like the other people in the town and her family and her friends. like I just think the The world and the community they create in that movie is like really special Yeah Yeah. it's beautiful. My number one is a movie called Only You, which is not as well known, but my mom showed it to me. It's from nineteen ninety four. It stars Robert Downey Jr. and you guessed it Marissa Tomeay and Bonnie Hunt plays the best friend and she is so fucking good, so fucking funny. Bonnie Hunt is just everything to me But it's about this woman who is about to get married, but when she was little, like really little, she went to like a random carnival in her hometown and on a Ouija board, she was like, who's my true love? And this woman's like his name's Damon Bradley. And cut to like, she's like in her twenties, she's about to get married. She gets a phone call like right before the wedding where he's like, hey, I'm calling for like yourour husband and she's like, Oh, he's not home can' take a message and his name's Dam Bradley And she's like, where are you going? And he's like I'm on my way to Italy and she flies to Italy with Bonnie Hunt like I have to just like meet him before I know if I can get married to this guy. And she meets Robert Joony junior along the way. I won't give anything away. but it's from the same director as Moonstruck, so like tonally kind of similar. like Very dramatic and hilarious and heartfelt, and I just think it's like a beautiful little movie. Also Billy Zayane is in it. Billy Zane is in it. And Robert Denney Junior is so fucking hot. Yeah. Early nineties, Robert Downey Jr. to me is just Even honestly twenty twenty six Robert Downey Jr., he's still so good looking, especially for all the drugs he's done Tony Stark is like I remember seeing the first Iron Man because that was like his big comeback, you know. And as someone who was raised on RDJ movies because my mom had a crush on him. so I've seen like all of them. I remember being like, Ohh my God, that's my Tony, That's my RDJ. This is amazing. And the only reason I have a little bit less of a crush on him now than I used to is because remember when he like defended Chris Pratt and was like, guys, you guys got be me to Chris Pratt. He's a great guy. like shut C is not. Also in ten years Is in ten years God, everyone's in that movie. Justice for Anna Ferris. I know. But yeah, great little movie. This was really fun.
