162. My Plan To Save MTV — Jun 15, 2026 — starts at 0:00

I just did a now one album review, unfortunately had the wrong list. So I just kind of did like a review of songs from nineteen ninety seven and nineteen ninety eight, but it was fun nonetheless and you can get that if you sign up for the five dollar tier If you sign up for the three dollar tier, you still get early episodes that are ad free, but the five dollar tier, you get video and then an extra episode. Two extra episodes a month, maybe three. I'm hoping to be able to put more content out there once the summer now that the summer house episodes are done. So yeah, that is my spiel. I hope you guys sign up. And if you do sign up Make sure to sign up through like the web, not through the Patreon app because there are more fees if you sign up through the Patreon app. But this week, I put up a poll on my Instagram on Laguna Beachch, I'm sure you're following if you're listening to this episode. But people voted and they wanted me to give my plan on how to save MTV. MTV, it don't wantna be saved, donon't save, hu, but I wantna save MTV because I think it's so incredibly important It's just being run by absolute lunatics who don't care about intellectual property because MTV has some of the best IP on the planet They have so many original shows, movies even. I don't know, does anyone remember like the MTV movies? Outside of T, there was also a Wuthering Heights. and a movie called Jailbait, which I think about a lot. and it was about a high school girl who got pregnant by someone who went to jail, but like the goofy guy at her high school decides to like play along with her that it's his baby to make him look like he's cool, but also her Anyway, as you can imagine, ten year old me watching it was absolutely enthralled by it. But MTV has shot itself in the foot and doesn't want to be saved. And I understand cable isn't really a thing anymore. Not a ton of people have cable. I have cable for shows on MTV But even like the app that all the MTV shows go to sucks. So this is going to be my blueprint on how to save MTV and MTV. If you'd like to chat, my email is Laguna Beachch insta at gmail. comot Thank you very much So as I mentioned before, even though I would absolutely love Cable to make a real big comeback, I do not think that's realistic So I think MTV should do what Bravo does, where they air a show live on cable. peopleeople can watch it if they want, if they have cable or you get it at like seven AM the next day The thing about MTV is I do think people would still watch the challenge if there was a way to watch the challenge other than watching it live on cable The only way to really do that is either waiting until it ends up on paramount plus and paramount plus, I'll get into it in a minute or buying the episodes off Amazon Prime. So it's not really like an easy way to consume their media anymore, especially media that's currently on television So they need to figure that out. They need to make an actual MTV app instead of using Paramount Plus to begin with, because Paramount Plus hates being used, is not user friendly at all. And I think MTV making their very own streaming app would just be a lot easier. because most of the things on Paramount Plus were on MTV at some point But again, it's just not easy to use. MTV hire someone who knows how to create a streaming app, whatever, and make it easy, make it less clunky. And when the challenge is on, put it on the MTV app less than twenty four hours later so people can watch the show 'cause I genuinely think people would continue to watch shows if it was easier to watch those shows I mean, Troy has said it over on Beyond the Blinds. He used to love the challenge, but stopped watching it because it was so difficult to keep up with So we're building out the app right now, okay? We're not talking about what's actually on cable at the moment. And it won't be ridiculousness when I do get to the cable portion of this, just to be clear. But with this app, I also think you should have TRL. You should be able to go through and watch any TRL episode that you want There is at least fifteen years of TRL episodes that we could watch. And I think bringing that back would be really important. And that way I could recap TRL episodes. Although you can watch TRL on YouTube just so you guys know. But again, like TRL to me, is so important to the core of who MTV is And I think people are really, not I think, I know people are craving things from an easier time in their life. People want to consume media that they consumed when they were ten, eleven, twelve, whatever, with a different eye. And I think TRL would be something that could really hold up. Are there inappropriate moments? Yes, I'm sure there are inappropriate moments on TRL Not everything has aged perfectly in the year of twenty twenty six, but I also think having that catalog and letting people browse through that would be absolutely incredible. It would be so cool to sit down with my niece and be like, this is what I used to race home to watch. becausecause I have seen content creators who are pretty big on TikTok not know what TRL is. It's like, what do you mean? You're a pop culture person. What do you mean you don't know what TRL is but it's also not an easy thing to find. So just adding that to the app, I think would really Kick it, kick it up. Kick it up, is that even a saying? Would really make it great. Obviously on the app, you would also have all the shows, you would have room Raiders next em Laguna Beach, the Hills, real world, in every season of the real world would be up. And I understand not every season of the real world would look great in the twenty twenty six lens. I'm very aware of that, but I also think the real world is such an important part of reality television and reality TV history that like it's kind of crazy to me That I can't watch certain seasons, especially important seasons that people have talked about for years and years and years. You can't find CT's season on Paramount Pus because the real world only has like random seasons up and seasons are scattered about. Some seasons are even over on Netflix. and it's like, what the fuck are we doing? We should MTV again think after years and years of having these shows that they would think ahead and be like, we need an app for everything We need a streaming service for all of our shows and they would make so much fucking money doing that. And I understand one thing about MTV and the reason they played ridiculousness over and over and over again is because it's a cheap show to play. But in my opinion, I don't think it would be very expensive to play reruns of Laguna Beach or the Hills because I know that those cast members don't get residuals from it. And again, I know that the shows I'm talking about are scattered about different streaming services. I just think it needs to be in one specific spot so it's so easy to find. I hope that makes sense. and it also wants to be used. Like I feel like when you turn on certain streaming Streaming apps, they're like, we actually don't want you to play anything, but we're going to play a trailer super loud and then it's gonna freeze there. so you're stuck. So we're holding you prisoner. and MTV needs to make just like a good streaming and partner with VH one. why not Why not put all the VH one Diva performances up there? Why not put behind the music up there? Like there's just so Many incredible shows that are floating somewhere and probably lost media because MTV doesn't give a fuck about their IP and it's so frustrating. And I do think that they should revamp shows. In my notes, I wrote revamp the Challenge, but I know they've kind of tried to do that by adding people from Big Brother and Survivor. So I guess when I say revamp the Challenge, it's more so make it more available for people to watch if they want to watch it And that goes back to the app idea that I just talked about I also said revamp road rules. I do not think the real world could happen in a day today I do not think the real world would be the same in twenty twenty six because most people who go on television want to become influencers now I don't think there are a ton of people who join a show just to tell their story anymore. and that was kind of like best part of the real world in my opinion. It was learning about these people. It was learning how, you know, Emily Schrroom from DC grew up in a cult and she's bisexual and this is her first experience kind of away from the people she grew up with. Like those were the stories I really loved. And we had Pedro for from San Francisco who unfortunately died of AIDS That was such an important moment. And I think the real world really gave us important moments to learn from becausecause you're basically putting all these different types of characters in a house. And the producers knew the people that they were picking. theyd picked people who didn't get along, theyd pick people who they thought would like fall in love with each other. they kind of had their different tropes that they would try and fill and I think that people nowadays would just go on it to become influencers. And I'm not saying people who went on it in the early two thousands or like twenty ten s weren't looking for that, but I think they were more looking at it like, I can share my story, I can go on the challenge, make some money that way. Influencing wasn't really a thing. but I think across the board with reality TV and influencing It's really made the waters murky. It's like, do you wna go on this show and really talk about your life? or do you wna go on the show, talk about your life, get a big paycheck, and then get more paychecks because you're shelling us whatever products you're gonna sell. I also said shelling, not sheilling. You guys know what I mean. So in my opinion, you cannot revamp and create the same magic that you used to get with the real world. Because even by the time you got to like real world skeletons, which I watched and enjoyed, it was still kind of like, o what are we doing? You know what I mean The last real worldor season was on Facebook too. Maybe they should do like one more final sendoff And oh, how about this? all right, you guys? How about this A real world house, but just like the all star real world members. So you'd bring back, I don't know, like cororal U You would bring back maybe Cyrus who was on Boston, Beth throw all them in a house together for like a month and see what happens. And I know that they did that with real world homecoming. And I think that is something they should also bring back and put on their streaming service or even cable and then streaming service the next day. The homecoming seasons were so And even watching like Julie from New Orleans completely like produce herself was bizarre to watch, but really fun in my opinion More of those. Now was the viewership there for the homecoming seasons? I don't know, but it's also like you're not promoting it anywhere. How the fuck are people supposed to even find this show? So maybe put money into these new shows so you can actually really promote it and get people excited about it again Show of Hs, wouldould you want to watch a homecoming show? Could you imagine like real worldor Austin being back in the same house? Do I think Danny would be a part of it? No. Like Danny's really, really difficult to find on social media overall And maybe it would be hard to get him and Melinda back in a house. But it would be really interesting to see how they all interact when they're older. Even Johanna in Wes, they dated So yeah Get some homecoming seasons back. Now I know I said don't revamp the real world. What show I think you could revamp is road rules because that is more challenge based and it's more like a survivor. And yes, well these people want to become influencers or whatever, for sure, but they also have to drive an RV through like a country they're unfamiliar with and do challenges And I think that would be exciting to see again. So although I don't think the real world could survive in twenty twenty six, I think Road Rules could just because it's although it's kind of similar, it's still pretty different Instead of living in a house together, you're living in an RV together and having to do challenges and like figure out how to navigate a country, what's that show It's like the great not what's it called? The Great Aventure? It's called Amazing Race. That's the show I was thinking of. and I feel like that still does well on ABC. So why not just make its like rival on MTV bring back road rules? And I'm sure you could find some fun people. and it wouldn't be influencers. And I think that's another thing is like on a lot of these reality shows that we get now, it's people who already have a following. And my rule for road rules would be like you have to have under ten thousand followers on Instagram and TikTok. You kind of have to be unknown. Maybe bring one person on that's known to get like eyes on this show. But I think most people for the rooad rules revamp that I'm now pitching to all of you would have to be plucked from obscurity. Another show that I think you could revamp would be MTV News. and I understand MTV News was more like a flash like and Serena Achel would pop up and start talking to you or Su Jim Pack would start talking to you, but I do think that that was a really fun way to get news, especially as a kid and it was like news I cared about And I think have it as real news. Don't have it as people being snarky, joking, anything. present it as if it's a real news station or news segment, I guess you would call it. Because I think MTV News was a really great way to get knowledge about different celebrities. It was like e newews, but serious which is interesting to think about, but it also made me feel like, oh, the stuff I'm interested in actually fucking matters. So MTV news should come back in some aspect And again, maybe put that on the streaming app too. do like a half hour segment. I'm not saying every day, maybe every other day, once a week, kind of go over all of the entertainment news that you think is important to talk about, let people know what's going on. and then put it up on the streaming app for people to watch later on if they do not have cable Well we're talking about revamping, these are some other shows that I think they should bring back, Bing back diary because I think with millennials, we have a different relationship with the celebrities we really liked because number one, we didn't get like Instagram feeds or anything. You would get a diary episode where you got to look into their life in some kind of way, and of course they only showed you what they wanted and yada, yada yada, whatever But it was still so cool. likeike I very much remember you think you know, but you have no idea. This is the diary of insert any celebrity here The Wree Hill one still obviously sticks into my mind. but I think diary was like a fun way to get behind the scenes information that felt so candid and again, gave you a different look at the celebrity that you really liked I think making the video would also be an incredible show to bring back. And I think MTV should bring back an emphasis on music videos. ' music videos were fun. I love talking about my favorite music videos. Music videos to go along with a song really tells the story. And I understand people are still making music videos just not in the same way they used to I think MTV could help really push that and bring it back And again, I know this is going to sound parasocial, but when you watch something like diary and you're watching this artist create an album, and then the next thing you're watching is making the video. And then the next thing you're watching is them on TRL promoting this video. It's a whole sequence of watching this music be made and watching this art be created in a really cool lens that we need to have today Some other shows that I think could be brought back true life. True life could work in any year. I think trrue life is where people go to tell their specific stories. If anyone was ever on trrue life, I would love to hear about your experience. Please DM me. I'd love to have you on this podcast or not on the podcast if you're not comfortable talking about it But there are certain true lifees that stick with you over time. you know, trrue life, I went to fat camp. That's like one that I remember, trrue life, I have Touretts, trrue life, I want the perfect body. True life, like Jersey shhore, true life where that guy's getting married and is saying he's gonna to gut someone like a fish Those shows really opened up my eyes to so many things. E the drug use that they would show on true life, I'd be like a teenager being like, wow, so that's what it looks like to smoke crack That's what it looks like to shoot up heroin. I learned a lot from that show. And I would love more behind the scenes stuff. I do remember at one point They did a behind the scenes about true life and they explained why they could show people like smoking crack And they said, you can't prove it's crack You can't prove that they are doing actual drugs on screen. So that's like the loophole of how they could get away with it, which I always thought was really interesting But yeah, bring back road rules, bring back diary, bring back making the video. brring back true life, I think Maid might be a really fun one to bring back too. I still remember the duct tape girl who loved duct tape and made her whole prom dress out of it. I hope she's doing great. You know what? I hope she's in fashion doing something or doing whatever she loves, but she really stuck with me. Another show that I think they could definitely bring back is girl code I think people really loved Girl Code. like they loved seeing this group of funny women give their takes on certain things. I think there was a bro code too. If you want to have one, fine. If you need to have one to balance out the scales, sure, but bring back Girl Code. and I think you could even bring back the old cast of Girl Code unless some of them have gotten in trouble that I'm not aware You could also add in new people Hi Hi me, I'm here. And MTV did have a short time where scripted shows did really well. When you think of faking it, Ten wolf, awkward Hard timimes with RJ. Berger. There are a bunch of other ones. My life is Liz, which seem to be kind of real, but also kind of fake, unsure I think bringing back any fun shows, any thirty minute sitcoms for or I don't know, Teen Wolf, I guess, wasn't a sitcom, but bring those types of shows back. I think it would be fun to have becausecause we don't I mean, I've said this a million times on this podcast and on Beyond the Blinds, but we don't have that tween culture anymore. And I feel like shows on MTV kind of helped you step forward into more adult shows. I just think that younger people, I know my nieces are currently watching Teen Wolf and absolutely love it, but I think younger people need more content to like take in before they move onto a show like severance or onto a show, even like off campus. like off campus has a lot of sex in it. And yes, of course, onene Tree Hill had sex, the OC had sex, but nothing like off campus. Sumay turned pretty I'm trying to think they do have like sex scenes in it, but it's not anything super graphic. I think it's just tough because there are so many streaming apps, right? And there are so many shows across so many streaming apps. Like we were liars. I really liked that one on Amazon Prime. I don't know how popular it was. But I think you'd have to like really, really search in order to find something that's appropriate for like a thirteen, fourteen year old. And I don't know if we were liars and we were liars, you could probably show to like a thirteen or fourteen year old Here's a tip for you. There's a podcast out there with fans waiting to be your next customer They tune in every week, they trust the host, and that host wants to talk about brands like yours in their own words to their audience. The problem is, you just haven't been introduced yet. We're A cast where that introduction happens as the world's largest podcast marketplace. We let you brow shows, seeee who's listening Host Red sponsorships or run your own ads all from one platform Transparent pricing, real time data, complete control. Start advertising on podcasts by visiting aast d. com slash advertise And I guess Samurai turned pretty, you could show, but I think off campus, you have to be a little Am I getting really old I feel like if I was to have a kid, I'd be like you're not allowed to watch anything other than the OC Wry Hill, Lagoona Beach sale But yeah, bring back some fun scripted comedies or dramedies to MTV. That would get the people going. that would get me going And again, I guess I'm talking about like either cable or the app U, but I'm so Sure that MTV needs its own app and needs to get the fuck off the Paramount pllus just so I can enjoy my experience more I also think the shows that are currently on MTV don't get a ton of funding. So like Jerseyhore Family vacation is still on. I still watch it weekly. And again, I think more people would watch it if it was available the very next day, but it's really funny And I think this is the last season it's going to be on MTV. I think MTV is shutting down at the end of the year, by the way, just to make this clear. I'm saying all of this knowing MTV isn't going to be a station much longer, but I also think MTV is so fucking important to the history of pop culture that it's really hard for me to let go of it. And I think one final season a teen mom, to really like send it, to really give it the moment it deserves, push then push it out to see or whatever you want to call it. I think one final season of teen Mom would be really cool. And if they could get like Chelsea back, I don't think Kale would ever ever, ever come back, but I would much rather see them come back than like Listen, I really like Cheyenne. I understand why she's on teen mom with the Corey connection and they're both on MTV, but they weren't a part of like the OG franchise I guess neither were Ashley and Brianna, but I want them on it. Anyway, I think they should just have one more massive teen mom season to fully send it off. because like we exploited those girls a lot and they deserve to have one more season to share the rest of their story in my opinion. And this is a show that I think is just on Paramount pllus, but I think they should bring it ono actual MTV And that show is Canadashore If you haven't watched Canadahore yet, which again, why would you? You probably don't even know it's a show. It's on Paramount plus and it is so much fun. I think there's ten people living in the house. like there's a lot of Characters on the show, castmates on the show, and they're all like nineteen to like twenty three, think I want to say. And it is such a fun show that really does give like throwback energy. It reminds me a lot of shows that we used to watch as when we were younger. They do binge drink, they do party, and I think that that's the nostalgia of it because they're not just trying to like make out. it's not a love island. It's not they're not trying to find love Of course there are a couple relationships in the house that end up forming, but for the most part, the show is about partying and Snooky's a part of it. So I think bringing that show just ono cable, but also keep it on streaming, obviously the next day. You guys know, you guys know what I want. Cable next day available on the MTV streaming app. But Canada Shore is truly so funny. The whole cast is really charismatic and I don't know if you guys feel this way, but on a lot of like newer reality shows, I feel like the cast isn't as magnetic as they used to be. like someone like a Snookie If someone's going to be like, No stooky, there's a new stooky over on Love Island, you just have to watch and And I'm going to be like, no, I won't watch. but Those people really like captivated you whether it was good or bad, right? Like Mike the Situation, Spencer Pratt, o, my God, when they were on my screens, I'd be like, get off my screens. But you don't really get that as much anymore. Even like Kenny from in the City. I understand he's an asshole, but he's like nothing compared to Mike the Situation. Does that make sense? Even the villains now are more tame whichich is just the changing of the time, but Canadahore, backack to Canadahore. That cast, they're young, they're crazy, they're really, really fun. and I just I give them so many props because they really do feel like an early twenty ten's reality show. I'm not going to say early two thousands reality show, early twenty ten s and people don't know about it. Paramount's not like pushing it enough in my opinion. So I do think it would be important to get eyes on it, put it on TV What happened to repeats? I feel like repeats of shows are no longer a thing on cable. Again, I know people don't watch cable. I'm just reminding you guys that I'm aware of how like delusional I sound because I have cable, but most of my friends that I know do not have cable. I guess though, we should talk about my plans for cable. We've talked a lot about the app That I want made. We've talked a lot about shows that I think could truly be revamped and really successful in the year twenty twenty six. But let's talk about what I want on the actual cable station MTV as if I don't know it's going to close by the end of the year, which also hasn't been confirmed, But the way Jersey Shore familyamily vacation is like, this is our last season on MTV and then're going to elsewhere. I'm like o, you're going go to stream and you're going to go to Paramount plus and I'm gonna have to fucking deal with that interface that does not want to be used ever. I feel like HBO Max used to be like that too. It used to just like kick you off the app. I'm like, do you even want me to use this So other than the shows that I said should be brought back to MTV or revamped, I think that this station should be pure nostalgia I think in the morning, it should be music videos, whatever music videos you want, they could be new music videos, old music videos does not matter. I think bringing back music to MTV would be really, really important. And it would also like just be fun. It's so much more fun when you have a music video to look at than just like hearing a song. It's nice to have a visual cue, okay I don't even think I used visual Q in the right way, but I still mean it So you would play music videos from like two AM, three AM How How about five AM till noon? and then at noon you would play either old Real worldld, you would play Lagouna Beach. And they used to do something like this. Back when I was like twenty twenty one, I can remember they would do a week of nostalgia, like retro a week in the middle of summer, and they'd play Laguna Beach, they'd play the hills, they'd play real world, the challenge Very old school MTV, and those used to be my favorite weeks. I'd be like, well, I'm hunover and I'm watching Laguna Beach for the rest of the day. So I would plan my day. And even I don't know if you guys remember on Saturday mornings growing up, they'd always play the challenge. So the challenge would be on at what likeine nine or ten at night. And if you couldn't stay up for it, they would play it Saturday morning for you to catch up And even just those little things or things that I miss. V each one used to do the same thing with like rock of love and flavor of love. My stepmom and I used to sit there for hours and either watch the challenge or rock of love. My mom didn't let me watch the challenge, but my stepmom didn't know. So that was like my f that's like when I was bad with divorce parents. I wasn't someone who would like Tell my dad I'm staying at my mom's or tell my moms I'm staying at my dad and like go elsewhere. I'd be like, No, my mom says I could watch this. Like with my stepmom and I'd watch Real World and the Challenge and Rock of love when like those were not shows my mom wanted me to watch ever. And in an upcoming episode, I said my mom was the opposite of a helicopter parent And basically like I could do the things I wanted, but if she saw something on any shows I was watching that she didn't like I wasn't allowed to watch that show anymore. Basically, she hated reality TV from like the start of it. And I remember watching Laguna Beach and she was like, what is this? And I was like, oh, it's some scripted show about like kids living in California, but it's not like the OC. And she's like, o, but it's not reality. I'm like, no, she's like, good So yeah, just make MTV like a pure nostalgia station because that's where all the money is and then put in these shows that I said to revamp. And how I would revamp it is obviously bring back TRL and not like the TRL they tried to bring back with like TikToks and being like, this is the viral moment. No, the actual TRL. I want people to vote for their favorite music videos. I want celebrities to come to TRL studios I think it would be really, really fun to also have that live audience back. And again, I have a theory that millennials love to vote because from a young age we were taught to vote, whether it was for the kids Choice Awards, teen Choice Awards, TRL MTV movie awwards, MTV video awards, whatever. and also that like voter die campaign that was led by Diddy. We don't have to get into that. But I do think voting was such a big important part of our life and it also made you feel heard at a very young age. I remember like Voting for Kelly Clarkson and Kelly Clarkson winning and being like, wow, I was a part of that. I was a part of something big. And it sounds silly now being thirty four and being like, Kelly, come on. like user. And it's like, no, but when you're that young, it's that moment where you're like, wow, like I can vote for something and have it be number one on TRL or win American Idol. And then eventually you're voting for both the president, but also for like local select men. It's important to vote. Okay, use your right to vote, please. Even if you didn't vote for things on TRL. in American Idol, it is important to use your voice to vote So this is how I started. Okay, you ready So my music videos would go from five AM to twelve PM. At twelve PM, it would be some nostalgia show. Maybe put some Laguna Beach, put some old real world, put whatever you want And then at five, you would have TRL. You'd bring TRL back Then after TRL, it would be making the video or diary or made or true life, one of those shows, okay Do you keep hearing podcast ads like this one, for example, but always wonder how you actually get involved with them for your own brand or organization? Browse thousands of popular podcasts, choose the shows that match your perfect audience, set your budget and launch And if you want a hand, our podcast specialists are there to help you launch with confidence. This is podcast advertising without barriers. Get started at acast dot com slash advertise So what does that bring you to like seven? At seven, say on Monday nights, the road rules revamp comes on So at seven, I would play last week's rooad rules so you can catch up in case you missed last week and weren't able to watch it on streaming or whatever the issue may be. Doesn't matter. That's on at seven at eight, you have the rooad rules revamp. And then at nine, nostalgia shows. It would be like almost like a nick at night type feel, but not nick at night, but maybe you could play like awkward You could play a scripted series at that point. And then I think from ele eleven PM to five AM you just play Jackass or one of those shows that they would always play later in the night of MTV anyway because it wasn't appropriate for daytime TV. And then you just kind of keep the cycle going. And I know there's YouTube, I guess for music videos. so I don't know if the MTV app would be able to have music videos on it But if they could, that'd be cool. And do you guys remember when they used to do like Vivo exclusives? They should do MTV exclusives. This is an MTV first look at hot chocolate by Sabrina Carpenter. Could you imagine that would be amazing If I haven't lost you yet, I might lose you now. but I think bring back MTV movies because those were always really fun. And you remember the Moon manan like floating in the beginning And just to be clear, some MTV movies did end up in theaters. There was Napoleon Dynamite, Election, Varsity Blues, Crossroads, Save the Last Dance, Jack As the movie. We also had my suuper Psycho Sweet sixteen, Teen Wolf the movie, Withering Heights, like I mentioned earlier Carmen, a hip hop hoppera Um, Beyonce was in that. Yeah, I just think that there were so many movies, so many things and now everybody is making their own movies. right? You have Amazon Prime movies, Netflix movies. I don't know Hulu, Do Hulu do original movies? They will soon, I'm sure Adding that aspect just makes it more fun and it makes it more like cohesive. L not only are you talking about music, TV, now you have your own movies, now you have news going as well. likeike I mentioned with MTV newews. And I do think there is an audience for that. Blaair and I were talking about this episode. She was gonna hop on. She had a workout class. But we were talking about how like I watched Real World San Francisco because it was on MTV on one of those retro weeks. And I had heard people talk about it for years and years and years and I was so excited to finally get eyes on it And I believe that one's not even up on Paramount pllus to watch. You know, early seasons of the challenge aren't even up for people to watch. And again understand that they didn't age well, have someone go in and like actually fix the episodes, makeake sure to put bleeps in where they're supposed to be. And it's really funny. There's no cohesiveness with the Paramount plus app because some episodes will have like the original music and some episodes don't So it's like, oh, I'm missing out on the great music of MTV. Like MTV also has such a good fucking music catalog. Back in the day when I had my own celebrity blog, I had Brad Skitschma, I think is how you say his last name He was part of the band or he was five times August. And he told me that once MTV had like your song in their catalog, they would just throw you on any show. So that's why MTV had like such good music in underground. I don't know if I'm using the term underground correctly. Indie music maybe. Indie music might be the better term for it But MTV like just had access to so many different artists and right at the tips of their fingertips. So all of their shows had such good music, the Hills moments and just fucking pay like we need to see the Hills with apologize in the background. We need to hear big girls don't cry when Audrina is crying That is what we crave. music moments and shows were so important and are still so important to this day. And I feel like MTV was a big part of it. It's so crazy to me that MTV kind of created reality TV in a different way, right? Like not just competition. they had the real world. and then they brought in I guess Road Rules was kind of like their version of Survivor But then you had Lagouna Beach and I truly believe without Laguna Beach Realhousewives of the OC wouldn't have started So MTV just like created so much and they're just throwing it all away. And it's so sad to watch as someone who truly believes that MTV could have a big resurgence, they just don't care to I've learned one thing in my life that I really hate is when I don't think my friends are living up to their potential Even if they're like happy with their life, I'm like, you could be doing more. Like I see this different life for you and it bums me out. and I guess that's how I feel about MTV. And I understand my friends are all on their own journeys. I understand it, but there are moments where I'm like, you really wanted to like be in New York and now this is what you're doing U But that's how I feel about MTV. I'm like, you have so much intellectual property. You did so much for pop culture and you're just letting it die. You wanted us to watch ridiculousness for twenty three hours a fucking week or day, I'm sorry, twenty three hours a day. And then you're like, well, I guess we're gonna have to shut down because nobody's watching us. It's like give us something to watch and we'll stay, I promise. Obviously I'm very passionate about this. I guess the last thing I have to add is just like one day maybe I'll do like a love letter to MTV episode instead of like, let me fix you. My toxic relationship is with MTV and cable, I know But it's just such a bummer that like my nieces won't get to experience pop culture in the way I did. And of course, things change, times change, the way you get news changes. but I think there is still something special just about saying MTV. And I know people are like, well, when it stopped playing music, that's when it died. I'm like, I don't think that's true because it was so popular when, you know, Laguna Beach was on then the hills mom was on Jersey shore. like they were still getting millions of views a week at one point, sixteen and pregnant in the age demographic, of like sixteen to twenty something got more views than the Olympics People used to tune into MTV for anything. and it was nice just to be able to put it on in the morning when you're getting ready for school to listen to music videos I personally wasn't a pop up music video girl over on VH one, but I know a lot of people were.
