I've never put a yes in the middle of my intro, but wow you can feel the hype. The excitement, the smile is written all over my face for audio listeners because it is the Charlaka Oh my go, I can say his name. Charles Leclerc podcast. This is All we' going to be talking I'm kidding, it's not There's loads things to get into Now you might be wondering why why do we not recall this at the raceetrack guys? Well, yes, we're a bit late with it. Firstly, I will say, you have always said to us, goo and enjoy yourselves guys. We'll be here no matter what. Well, you best believe I'm going to be going into the statistics to see if you were telling the truth. and too there were a lot of things going on and we kind of left the track like we probably should probably should find out what's actually gone on here because There was so much more than what we thought had happened sitting where we were. I overveheard someone that was near us when we were watching the race and I heard them go don't know what's happening. ex that is the most relatable thing for oners. I think its cemented even more that this was an absolute chaotic race. so much going on bed it. even more difficult to follow And of course you've got the tracks side commentary, but then sometimes the cars are coming past and you can't hear it. You've got a very kind of you're kind of trying to piece the puzzle together, but thankfully like We know it was amazing to be there and witness that incredible race and be at Silverstone again always a lot of fun. And then yeah come back, actually absorb the race Watch it And u H here we are here we are. loads to talk about so much drama for the championship. And before we get into all of that, firstly I want to say thank you so much to each and every one of you that came and said hello to us across the weekend. you came in your rafters for sure and also for those of you that came to our live show as well today or whenever this goes out or whenever you're listening onn the Sunday, of course, we did the main stage live show at ten forty and So many of you came out. the weather actually held for once in its life after being lightninged off last year after seven minutes This time we got the full show and we were able to meet so many of you afterwards. So thank you, thank you. thank you. It was truly such a special memory again to be on the Silverstone main stage and You know, to just look atuck big old screens and just see Tom Bellingham there just doing his thing. Oh I tell you. There was moments where we're in the crowd and you can just see like all the crowd around you and I'm just like, what is what is life? It was absolutely crazy. And then yeah, was I was very Lucky enough that my daughter Grace could come see me. she was for the first time She was on the big screen and I've got a little little wholesome story to start the podcast that We were in the taxi on the way home and Grace was talking to the taxi driver that was taking us back to the u the car. I walked by the way, just so just so we know who's more humble here. I did have a four year old on my shoulders in absolute insane heat. and I asked the person because we yeah, I had the artists parking because we're on the stage and I was like C you take me back. And it was actually we were just behind George Russell had just left the stage. and Grace was waving to everyone as we left. But she asked the taxi driver was talking to the taxi driver and the taxi driver was like, Ohh, what's your favorite part of the day And I was like anything like Lego cars P pool. everything loads loads of exciting. Just first quickly the reason there was a swimming pool where we were. We were at the pop up hotel and they had a swimming pool, which Grace was enjoying a lot, wasn't she? She was. So I was I was alreadyfard to say the pool and she said Daddy's show And I was like a melted and for split second I forgot the maximum step and ended race in the gravel track. part of me sad because she does like talking about me as well, doesn't she I wish she said Mattallagher should. Mt Gallgher. I. onene thing she did say was when we were walking, we could see the stage and someone was like DJing on and Gry said, I think that's Matt Gallagher. Oh, awesome stuff. Now before we get into everything, Silverstone and British Grand Prix related, a quick shout out to our wonderful P one Patrons who will be getting extra chat at the end of every single race review this year as well as ad free listening, which I know a lot of you enjoy. You get access to our discord and so much more Now Let's do it that's let's let's buckle ourselves ins get the seatbelts on because We're going to start with my most memorable moment, Tommy that was a It's a bit left field, this one. Cadillac double finish. Did say they were going to on I'll God, God. Aston Martin double finish. No, it is Sheall lookl winning. Charlles Lecler winning the British Grand Prix. I can't tell you. I mean, I can and you know how much hurt and pain I have been experiencing over the years, the fact we're still not into double digits of victory is ridiculous by the way. I've been by your side like helping you through the pain Proding every second and annoying me for the entire time. I can't say that stat anymore that Verstappens's one of race more recently than Charlleaclerc in Ferri because he won that GT race but It's on it. he likes getting disqualified and end up in grab Pact I' Max. Yeah don't worry. This is my podcast. your man I' to enjoy it a lot. But of course Charlleaclerc winning the British Grand Prix. You know, there's so many pce on paper, right? that is brilliant But there's so many different chapters to this story. because it wasn't plain sailing and I was absolutely convinced I was not going to be talking about a Charle leclerc victory with ten laps to go or fifteen laps to go whenever it was because Le clair. He was doing a phenomenal job. I don't think anybody can dispute that from turning it around after the sprint section of the weekend, qualify out qualifying Hamilton on the Saturday And then also having the race pace today as well was surprising because Hamilton just wasn't on Leclerc's level today, I think that's very fair to say. Lewis himself said after the race that he just didn't have the pace of Charles. Interestingly, he also said that the philosophy that he's brought to the Ferrari car is something that Charles has started to Great towards It's got it. Thank you very much for the setup, mate. Yeah it's like you better feel later and you take someone else's setup and copy it straight in. A'm three tents quicker, me I don't care. thank you, Louis. I will say thank you because if that is the case, then Chll is back and we love to see it. But it didn't look like it was going to happen because Antonlli in the stint of a lifetime it has to be said in that opening I was going to say opening phase. It's not. He went a good sort of two thirds of the race on the same set of medium tyres And then was utterly flying the minute he came out the pits on those fresh hards thought it wasn't going to happen I literally sank into my seat the minute Kimmy came out of the pits and was like two seconds a lap quicker than Charl. I was like, Tommy, just end it now for me, please. Yeah, it very much looking like it wasn't it was going to be a repeat of I think it's twenty one actually where of course the infamous crash between Hamilton and Verstappen where Hamilton got the penalty and then he chased down Lecloc because it's kind of In that crazy race, you almost forget that Leclc was actually leading that race in Hamilton kind of chased him down to take that victory which we were therefore again you know watching and I thought it was going to be a repeat of that where the Mercedes Pet Leclc. to the race victory and he was kind of hanging on and And then it was like, no, he's actually going to win And then it changed again and we thought we werere going to obviously have a a shootout at the end, which didn't happen, which could have I'm sure you're getting kind of some stress remembering another Silverstone moment where they put hard tyres on him and things like that. I mean the fact that you can just reel off all of these awful memories that I have Oh yeah. see remember Leclot was leading and then Hamilton overtook him with two laps together to go. was just so many of them. All at Silverstone. Do you remember the time we didn't pit and was stuck on old hard tyres? Oh yeah, that was also Silverstone it is so true. And you mentioned the strange end to the race. That's definitely something that is worth talking about because The FIA have come out and clarified what happened, which is not something the FIA usually do. We don't usually get actual answers from them. We just sort of wonder decision making was like, but they've come across. O of course, you know the sort of step by step of what happened is that of course we had the safety card because of Oh, who was it? Who was it the crrashed into the gravel Sorry Tommy can you just remind me I can't remember? You can't remember I can't remember and it might have Max V Stappen, I'll be hon Soomeraapper went into the gravel at Stow which actually we could have seen which would have been even better for me to see your reaction had we actually looked down the straight, but he just kind of lost it. All on his own, which is something we will talk about because there might be more that meets the eye with that one that's the safety car comes four laps to go. think it was that forty eight And then we get to lap fifty one safety car ending. Oh my Godd, we're getting a one lap shoot out Russell's jumped Hamilton of course, because Russell hasn't pit. He was on twenty three old mediums at the time And then they changed it again. And then then they redeployed the safety car because they had a software glitch Whatever that They press thetuman glit. Yeah surely. They've forgotten the rules again, Abu Dhabi twenty twenty one esque glitch, maybe and then gone, oh God, no we shouldn't be restarting the race because we need an extra lap for the lapped cars to just have a lovely time trial. moments like That in itself is a ruling that we can discuss in more detail, but that's the reason why we didn't get underway again is because they were following the letter of the law which is Is it growth? Could we say this is growth from the FA that they've looked to the rules and gone, you know what that is the rules? Let's do that. I mean, it's very ironic, isn't it that Abu Dhabibi twenty one happened, everyone complained about it and then this happened and everyone complained about it because people were booing they're saying, you know, it's a massive anti cllimax. what's going on And yeah, they they were were just following the rules. they ran out of lap. I think the biggest thing that triggered so many people they triggered me is the bait. The fact that they said safety cart ending. if it would been if it had been like There's not going to be enough time. We knew it And it never looked like it was going to happen then We could have like kind of been prepared almost for thinking, o, we're going to run out of laps. It's a massive shame, but here we are And yeah, it's it was a I think that was what was so frustrating because we thought we were going to get this amazing grandstandamp finished, but it didn't happen. It did not. Now another thing I want to mention considering we are on the topic of Charlacler is one of the greatest team radios I think we have ever heard in our entire lives And it's the fact that Chardleclc said after the race, tough times never last, only tough people last And if you haven't seen the meme, you have to go and see it because the guy then goes and makes a very strange noise which I can only replicate is or something like that. Uh So I can't believe that that's real life that we've just heard that over the team radio of the race winner of the British Grand Prix at Charllelerc, but I absolutely loved it. And also it's a very wholesome team radio in general, just the whole in Lap, he was he was so happy soaking up what he's achieved and it made me feel o so happy I think'd had that on his bingo card of the frustrations and how long it's been since he won. like what are you gonna to do when you win? A you getting that question? like it's been such a long time since you last won? What are you gonna to do when you win? I'm gonna go that bizarre I enjoyed it But yeah, it was a funny funny radio moment. And yeah, like at the end of the day we'll dive into it now about safety cars and things. But after Antonlli, I think realistically, after Antonelli retired Had we had that shootout anyway Leclaace winning, would I would very much because of the fact they had Russell in between him and Hamilton with the medium tyres. indndeed Let's get to a question from people on pat remember Gessosaurus. C there be a standardised rule to avoid a safety car finish? I think it gets a little bit dangerous when we try and Over there entertainer sport. And this is something that Formula One is already ready doing. I get it's frustrating. We want to see as much action as possible. But I think we're in a dangerous time in everything. And I think this happens across all sports now with this kind of generation of constant dopamine and we need action all the time That was an absolutely Brilliant race, I think. If we'd have known and not beenaited and just finished bying the safety car, I think it's still a fantastic race. Yes, it's a bit of a shame, but there was drama, there was action, there was battling. controversy collisions strategy I think it's brilliant. So I think it gets a little bit I personally think that sometimes you just have to accept that not every race is going to be an absolute world day and going to be the greatest finish ever. And I know sometimes like forormul have done added laps and NASCAR do a I think it's called a Green I between White Checker, maybe I think it's called I don't watch much NASCAard but I think it's somethingoke if you're I' asking but but to basically Make sure that the race doesn't end behind. a caution or a safety car. So with that situation that they put that in there to make sure the end of the race is always entertaining. We saw us think the green and white checkred flag is what you were thinking of, because I've typed that in because I thought, you know, whilst you're talking, It's officially used to signal the end of a race segment, commonly known as a stage finish This indicates that the stage is complete allowing drivers to earn stage points and temporarily slowing the race under a caution periods to allow cars to pit. Oh, well, there's something in NASCA that makes sure that talking and I'll find that cored flag. We need to find it right now. It's fine. I'm sure people would know what I'm talking about, but I respect the dedication to me being factually correct. About a NasCast thing Mate, I'm so locked in. I'm still searching no, noh So I tuck that in, but then also it says the green and white checkkered flag combination is used to signal NASCA over time. Yeah, that's what it is. Yeahah, it is that. So yeah, is It're using the same flag for different things. This restarts the race for a final two lap shootout design antic cllimactic caution flag endings. There you go. You cook on me. So I cooked. So that is what got They do Would I want to see that? I Yes, yes and no. I think It s Of course I would more entertaining and I'm going to enjoy the race more When does it get like too farcical and too much of like trying to make it entertaining versus the kind of sporting pedigree and like the history of the sport and everything like that There's already been kind of talk about when they threw the red flag in Australia twenty three. and what absolutely the drivers were the drivers were so unhappy about it because they're like, well, of course we're all going to crash into each other because This is this is our chance to do something amazing because you're basically giving like a no, a huge and the tire cold, right? Yeah, which funnily enough as well It seems like the safety car was going so slowly to try and make sure we got this finish. U that I think had they had restarted the race It would have been absolute carnage and I think there needs to be a point where We need to think about the safety of everyone and not kind of jeopardise that just to make sure we get a grandstand finish. like the procedure making sure everything's sorted. because I think that's when you open a bit of a can of worms and could get a little bit messy by trying to do it. Yeah, it is's an interesting. One I hear your point about safety and of course, you, I completely agree that the safety of the drivers should be paramount In terms of safety car finishes. to really do a similar a formula E type thing where They can save energy And then they can add the amount of laps that they've saved under the safety car. so there's not that problem of are they going to run out of energy? Whereas I guess with F one we still we have a pretty big battery these days. So may maybe there is a possibility. Yeahah, but there is still of course, fuel in the car and You know, maybe the teams would have to put extra in, but then it's just like our some might risk in case there isn't a safety car Yeah, it opens a kind of worms in that sense and I don't think that there should be this NASCA, indiear, whatever it is series that try to make sure that we always finish under green flag conditions. The problem is and what we've mentioned At least for me, and I think for a lot of people is that we thought we were going to go under get under wayay again When the incident happened, I thought we're probably going to finish under a safety car. But when they said safety car ending, every exited Yeah That's the best thing to see with one lap to go. Safety car ending. You're like this is it. onene lap to win it all And then it went Safety card deploy That's the worst thing by a mile for me. Fix your software issues, FIA, please. O don't press the button to Probably later maybe Okay, another question from people bit remember, City car go fast Is Charl now making this a four man battle for the drivers Championship There's still a lot of season left Ah, silly cargo fast, othertherwise known as Matt Gallagh's burner account on on Patreon. Look seventy one points behind Kimmy Antonlli. I'm not going to say it's a four man drivers' championship just yet. I'm not I can't I can't do it to myself because every time I move in silence things go kind of Shell's way. So Hey Tim in Austria, he had a horrendous, horrendous race I said he was going to be terrible in Silver Stone and he's won it. So look, I think it's going to be downhill Charlotte It's going to every race from He eight every single grand Prix from here on in But look, now I have to I have to speak with my heart. I have to not think about the curses and the jinxes because this is the way I live. U He's not in the championship fight just yet Like I've said with Other teams trying to fight Mercedes I need to see more of an evidence data set that Charle lecler has one figured out this Ferrari and it's not just a silverstone Saturday qualifying Sunday race thing and to whether just Ferrari in general are going to be competitive for the rest of the season. We're going to have more upgrades from different teams at different times which will change the pecking order. I don't think McLaren, of course they not in the drivers's Championship as such, but I don't think they're out of it in terms of beinging able to compete now and again Max Verstappen, as much as he's absolutely fuming right now, I'm sure he will be right up there occasionally. so This season has so many question marks and that's the something that's so exciting for me as a fan watching Of course for Antonelli, his retirements are opening this season up a lot more than we expected But no he's not officially part of the driververs championship. I will say a fact that he's mathematically got a chance, but I think even Lance Stroll has at this point There's a lot of the season left. It all kind of comes down to if for and this is the same really with Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari can develop a car and continue to develop to be uh, you know, to be able to win races more consistently. I think on paper, the good thing that you look at is that in the last three races Ferari have won two of them But I don't think that really tells the whole story because Antinelli was probably going to win that race without the DNF, of course as well And then also look at the Austrian Grand Prix where Ferrari were really poor and pretty much nowhere and having a bad race whereas B thing about Mercedes is that they've been strong at every circuit and they're managing to challenge for the winner at every trreack if their car doesn't break down. So There is a chance if they can out develop them there is a lot of racing to go still and never never say never. but I think we need to see more from Charlotte Clare and Ferrari to really sort of consider this a four four car battle because I think even even sort of like I don't think it's like completely out of the question that Hamilt win but I think even that is a slight stretch based on how mighty Mercedes have been and it still very much feels like Russell versus Antonlli is like the sensible It is the sensible one, but when am I ever sensible? Let's talk about the driver standings very quickly. So Antonlli is twenty five points now ahead of George Russell. one victory. That's it Hamilton is thirty two points behind Kimmy Antonlli, but the most important one of all, Charlot Cler is seventy one points behind and Never say never. but I see a third and fourth Ferrari in the driververss Championship. Less than three wins. All of a sudden. Yeah, less than three wins and that's a lot of points. Let's not talk about it anymore because I'm already starting to not believe. He won the British Grand Prix. So that is very exciting and I'm still very, very happy. Nowother question P want Pit remember fununky guy Why on earth did Ferrari pit Lewis? It was so close to the end that it was never going to work out I don't think you can slander Ferrari here. I think it's actually the right choice that Ferrari did Because everyone pitted apart from u you know, one guy at the front, which is George Russell And he got fortunate in the fact that the race didn't go to plan And the situation with Ferrari is They had to put the softs on. everyone was playing the softs on. It made sense took that gamble to stay on the mediums and he was obviously hoping that maybe there'd be one or two laps and he might be able to hold off and it's worth the risk. Or it ended under thefet or it ended under the safety c, which it did. So I don't think that's a problem for him. One thing I would mention is that Wing back. now I've heard more more team radio and stuff Hamilton wasn't happy with the first stop that he had. and I think that's more of a question mark than the final stop personally because we saw what Antonlli did where he stayed out for a lot longer and it worked out for him Hamilton went' to come into the pits and had a very annoyed team radio. My tyres are fine And yeah That seems to me more of a bad goal. I don't think it's horrendous call, but you know maybe that there's something more there. But the one at the end can't blame fory. I think it's ridiculous to sort of get the Ferrari clown me memes out and things for that one because they were just doing what everyone else did and Mercedes rolled the dice and got lucky with it. Yeah, completely agree. I think that It was the right decision because had we gone racing I know all too well what it's like to be on the wrong set of tyres When it comes to Charles Leclerc and what we spoke about earlier in the fact that you don't want to be on an old set or a new set when everybody else is on brand new softs or close to brand new softs behind you. So it was the right decision. Mercedes also, I think, made the right decision in risking it and keeping George out there. It was quite close between the two of them with Hamilton coming out the pits and In terms of when they Tim. Of course, Hamilton was carrying that five second penalty after the jump start And it felt like they were because he had about a five second gap to George Russell And it felt as if they were maybe like going, right, okay, we're within five seconds now or just ahead of like around five seconds ahead of George Russell. Let's pit try and get rid of the penalty and U the undercut to basically get back ahead of George once he pits. Problem is George comes into the pits the same lap and then just jumps him in the pits and says, thank you very much, I'll take that track position. So Yeah was there was actually a lot of awesome wheel to wheel racing, a lot of brilliant moves from Hamilton in particular today, a lot of round the outses at cops and at the end of the Wellington Strait and things like that. and it was fantastic to watch But yeah, I think that's more the question mark is how Ferrari decided to serve that penalty rather than at the end, to be honest with you, as much as that looks on paper to be the that the worst decision of all Welcome to two hundred fifteen Maple Drive. We just put this property on the market. Love the crown molding. Oh wait until you see the wal in closets and the bathroom tile. Does it have Verizon FiOos? What's the one most memorable my most memorable is Antonelli. Antonell's probably big Max fan. what's going on? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? I think the max we'll talk about the maxing later and I'll explain why it's not it's not up there. but In terms of the context and the story of the race The Antonelli moment is far bigger It's a huge moment. We were We talk about being robbed of a finish at the end with the safety car. We were robbed of a great finish because of the fact that Antonlli had that problem because it was very exciting watching him close Charlacler down and you were like, oh no, here we go.. Yeah, you're thinking it's over, but it would have been exciting to watch to see I think Antony probably would have passast him H stint was It was a fascinating thing to see him stay out for so long and not lose that much time at all another problem for Antonelli And if we go back to the Monaco we're talking about Charlaclc being what seventy one points behind I think it was around seventy something for Antonelli after Monaco which was only four races ago, not very long ago indndeed less than a month ago. And we're saying This is a title e. Like Russell's having all the bad light Bad luck' not going his way. Antonelli can't stop winning And it's just flipped so much u the kind of Antony's had, obviously the failure in Spain And another one here where he wass going to win the race. He's going to take more points out of George Russell And now The championship has changed again. And it's just, you know, a race win away from Russell now and Kimmy's lead has been eroded through through no fault of his own Yes, it' it's really tough, I think for Kimmy Antonelli, nineteen years old, leading the worldorld Championship for the first time in only a second season in Formula one And it's a weird feeling for me sat here now trying to think about what the season will look like for the rest of the year And I'm alm sat here thinking You can kind of forgive him if things kind of go badly from here from a driving perspective. This is a massive test for him as to whether he is world champion material When things go wrong, even when he is driving so brilliantly But I think what is the most interesting thing for me and it came from the post race interview with Kimmy wasas his demeanor It really does feel like he has this He has such inner confidence in what he's being able to achieve so far this year. E this DNF. hasn't massively phazed him. That's the most impressive thing for me. As much as I'm saying, you know, if it goes badly from here, fair enough, like, you know, it's your second season and you're young But it doesn't feel like that's going to happen because he's already had setbacks through no fault of his own. He's had another one today But it almost feels like we'll head to spar and we'll see exactly the same Antinelli situation where he's probably the quickest So And one flip side of that that George Russell as the one that actually has gained points and he's absolutely distraught. Exactly, ye Yeah. I'm really impressed with Kimmy, as you can probably tell with the answer because Yeah, he's showing a lot of hallmarks of what a champion should and could be and Of course he was trying to push a lot in terms of the car today and and how the you know he's coming over the radio saying cararss basically broken Yeah, the wheels hovering this that and the other. They say retired then, I said no, we're going tory trying score a point And it felt like they had that conversation about three different occasions. It was Again, you can call that champion mentality or you can also call it driving with an unsafe car, depends which camp you you're sitting with. And as you mentioned, George Of course, he had that slow puncture, which put him down to P seven, but even with that unlucky moment for him place wasn't there And he said after the race, which again was quite an insight into maybe how he's feeling at the moment is that he felt better after Canada where he DNF than here where he's gained eighteen points on Antonlli because he basically said that If he's go he's not going to be able to fight for a championship if his performances are like this that that's that's a very Truthfully honest. approach to the media and kind of saying what we're seeing as well, which I think is a good thing. I don't think you can really hide the fact that George is King when it comes to Kimy's pace at the moment Yeah, and George threw his steering wheel out his car in in Canada. so he must have been feeling really bad after Silverstone. if that's the case if he feels feels better, but Kimmy is so Chill, I think is the is the fact that that you kind of and what you were kind of alluding to there and talking about because he's so I think you deserve Toto deserves a massive amount of credit, I think, as well for how he's nurtured Kimy in a completely different way to a team like Red Bull the whole sink or swim like Lawson Sorry, mate, two races, you've not improved, S you later, things like that. and the kind of how toxic that whole side of Red Bull was with their drivers and everything. And We could have easily had moments last year where Kimmy was having doing errors and things like that where they're kind of saying, need to improve and Even this year, it's all kind of like Don't worry too much about the championship And I think that whole thing is stuff on Kimy and the fact that he just isn't really thinking too much about it at the moment And I know it's as we get later into the season, it's probably going to change, but doesnn't look like a guy is under pressure and feeling like, oh my go God, I'm fighting for the worldorld Championship. You've seen that before with I think Lando and Oscar last year is a great example and how that got you could see, it changed them like definitely and how they wentn about their racing and the pressure and everything. It definitely did get to both of them in that situation whether it's the same later in the season, we'll find out, but so far yeah, Kimmy is just so chill about everything. I think that's one of his most impressive kind of aspects to his fora onene career really already. Indeed, a question from P on Pitronemberber medium speed corner. Excluding the merk reliability, can we consider Kimy the favorite on pure pace I think we' silly to bet against him even at this point Now we've seen so many twists and turns already this season that you can't just fully put all your eggs in Kimmy's basket like we did after Monaco We were basically going, how on earth is this going to be overturned Eter twenty twenty six regulations and terrible reliability for subcars And now we're within a race win again. So could well be a very heartbreaking season, I think, for somebody. if we do have a lot of reliability issues in one garage and then the other I don't want this championship to be decided on reliability issues because right now Antonlli has done everything up to this point be world Champion If he continues this form throughout the season is categorically worthy of being worldorld Champion If we get to the season and he's not despite us still thinking this way I'll be I'll be heartbroken for him, and I'm sure he would be as well because he has blown all of our expectations out of the water this year and I yeah, on pure pace, he is definitely still the favorite inconsistency He is still the favorite in reliability He's not He's certainly not in reliability He's been so quick that you could argue that If you took every kind of unlucky scenario or moment in the season like it's not out of the question that Kimmy Antonelli could have maybe even won every race this year, maybe apart from the first one, where because we've said before about how Kimmy just seems so much more comfortable and quicker than George, he's not always beaten George, of course in the in the races, but He seems like he's always been the quicker driver minus that that first race So the fact that we're looking again about the Mercedes reliability costing Kimmy It's all alright saying Kimy is the favorite on pace and I think he's going to do it because he's really, really fast There's been a lot of reliability now and these reliability problems have decided world Championships before. like Lewis Hamilton has lost a worldorld Championship from reliability issues. Michael Schumach has as well many other great drivers and drivers throughout history. And it would be such a shame for it to come down to that because Kimmy could easily have an absolutely humongous lead right now. without the bad luck And u that we can't really say excluding Mercedes reliability because it is a factor. And at the moment It's costing them massively because They should be absolutely miles ahead and particularly Kimmy as well, and he's not anymore Yeah from like a Now just wanting to see an interesting championship fight. Thank you Bersaders I appreciate you for building the best car and going bit unreliable though. might break down at any point because it really has sort of opened up potential for a great championship, but as I say, I think we still want the deserving winner to win wind to win at the end. There was a lot of wind at Silverstone, I will say, though. like my God, that place is always windy without fail Let's get to a question from P one Patreon member Thima What a nonsense penalty. How did they give Antonelli five seconds? Yes, he went off, but it's going off and gaining an advantage. He was losing loads of timees I do think that sometimes the limits police can be far too harsh with things sometimes and it gets a bit ridiculous that yeah when you're going off the track and not gaining an advantage, I don't think it should necessarily be like you've got a track warning because he's clearly not gaining time by locking up. But I do think Kimmy So maybe you could say's unlucky in that sense, maybe a little bit, but I think he's more fortunate he didn't get a black and orange flag in that situation because C did not look in a safe condition at that start the way he was driving. Um, you know, he was unable to get r that corner after the Wellington Straight. make that corner any anytime. it seems like it was constant you know, going off at that moment and we're kind of thinking This seems a little bit unsafe and I think am I right in saying that the team asked him to come in as well and retire the car. Y. And he continued. So we have seen situations like that before where you know it's a big risk that he's taking there. and obviously, He saw Every point is going to matter in this championship. Of course if he hadn't got the penalty, I think you would have been P nine. maybe would have yes. Yeah And yeah. so I think he's maybe slightly fortunate that that he didn't get a black orange flag there, but of course he didn't get any points anyway He did not. Yeah, Antonlli The penalty, I really don't see it as nonsense at all because Track limits, track limits you can argue about the advantage side of things. you can argue that Antonlli is steaming into a corner with a car that's not working properly going off the track coming back on. whereas taking proper safety precautions, he would be heading into that corner a lot slower. That's how I see it anyway You can't really say, o doesust track limits, but not gaining advantage. So therefore no track limits warnings Where does that begin and end? I think it has to be very black and white with track limits I saw Stroll was picking up loads as well because you know, he was really pushing the limits of that Aston Martin, I saw some I was fighting the car, like my word I saw some on boards there. Yeah I was so bad. There's an on board where Fernando Alonso is wrestle like you're watching him wrestle the car. And then you see Stroll go off in front of him of him wrestling the car. and then Alonzso passes him and then wrestles the car into the next corner. It is an absolute Apparently Alonso said it's the first time they've put one hundred kilograms of fuel in the car or something. And wow Yeah. anyway, I don't know how we just went on to ask the Martin, but for Aonelli, I think the penalty is absolutely deserved by the letter of the law. And I am also of the same opinion, Tommy that the that the safety of the vehicle was was definitely up for question guess from an FIA standpoint if the driver feels like that he's able to still continue going and there's not a visible hanging off front wing or hanging off rear wing or whatever that is actually very easy to go. Nope, that car's not safe then I can understand why it's a slightly more difficult call to make from the FIA because what does he need to come in and change if there's not anything actually visible to to change on the carars. Did you see how many track limit warnings Stroll actually had? I saw at one point in the highlights it was six, but I don't know if there was any more. Right So I'm going to go through with you because it's quite an interesting read. So these are the track limit warnings in that race. Colopinto oneon, Holkenberg won, Alonso oneon, Gazley one Verstappen oneon Norris one, Piastry two, science four Aonlli seven, Lance Troll, twenty one. He was doing that sprint rac thing again, wasn't he? You just you just know it. He was doing the Lego car line. Honestly, those Lego cars, we will speak about that very shortly actually because Alonso does feature in that as well Let's go back to Mercedes though Talk about the championship battle. P one Patreon member Blackson. Asks. Is this the only way George can close down the gap significantly? Okay, look, this is where I'm going to stop the George's Wash train because we have seen couple of moments this year. And maybe three actually, Australia Canada and Austria. I'm going to put Austria that. as much as his pace wasn't maybe up to scratch with Kimmy, he still delivered a clean weekend put it on poll and won the race The only reason he's lost points to other drivers around him Kimmy because Kimy's more reliability issues now is because he's had his own reliability issues. So I personally think that George will figure this out. He has to This might be one of his only chances to win a world championship. And George is a great driver. He was one of those ones, I think over the last few years that went very much under the radar of doing some phenomenal things when Hamilton was his teammates, of course in the Ground Effect era, but still doing a brilliant job against him and was able to pick up some wins with Mercedes and so on and so forth I think he will point where he'll match Kimy Antonelli. I can't see this being a thing where he will just not know what to do for the rest of the year Similar to it's amazing how quickly things can change in Formula one Everyone was writing off Charles Leclerc now completely finished. He doesn't know how to drive. All he does is crash Yeah, all that sort of stuff. He just won the British World And they win a race. Yeah. No you said one race. No the way no the way you said that was sarcastic You can't hurt me in this podcast on me. You can't do it, mate. goo check the gravel. seeee where your driver is. But I'm just saying that things can turn around in this brand new era of regulations where genuinely some drivers are struggling more than others It's not just George. It was Charl before. I think Oscars maybe be struggling a little bit in comparison to Lando this year that there are plenty of teammate comparisons to be made and I think swings can happen a lot quicker than if we are three or four years into the same set of regulations personally think your point about George has been good in three out of nine races is a bit of a stretch personally in terms of like saying that which one was not good in then Which one was which of those three was he not good in then No is in like George Russell is a very experienced driver and the heavily favourite to win the world Championship. You can't say that him being in three of the nine races is like that's a good season. No, no, no, I didn't say it was a good season. I said my point is he's struggling, but he has shown signs of potential, which I think he can build on. I'm not if he's had zero good races in nine and getting any I don't I don't think three out of nine is a positive thing to look at. That's a pretty poor season, I would say. and I just think that some people may take the the whole thing of like Oh, let's not be too harsh on George because he's been good three out of nine races like that still I think there's still reason to criticize George Russell. Yeah, no season I've been criticizing him. As much as funny story, by the way. Can we tell the story? I think we should tell the story where we bumped into George in the paddock this weekend And he said to us, he was like He hey guys, Oh, your videos have been in my algorithm recently and we were and I literally said to him, well, you don't watch them though, do you mate? And he went, Yeahah, sometimes. And then he went Don't talk S about me. and then and left the building, which I found very good. But yes, back to the point about George I I think I've been very critical of him when he has been poor I think I'm just trying to say that things can change very quickly. his season has been poor up until this point compared to the expectation. But it's not like it is an unassailable unfindable thing for him. That's why I'm not writing him off of this championship. That's kind of my main point was for this. Yeah, yeah. and I think that's a fair comment about the whole like not writing him off because we've said this before. I mean, he's He's now within a race win of Kimmy Antonelli when I think Antonelli has been much, much quicker this season. And as we said in the Austria Review with the whole situation of like Last year, you had the start of the season where Piastri was absolutely unbelievable and everyone saying Lando' wasashed is you know how can he not beat Piastri? Piastre is new and all this kind of stuff And then Olando turned it around and he stayed close and in this situation, yeah, George's onlyn a race win behind and You do wonder when he looks back on this and thinks about how his It's kind of seasons Gone and I understand the way he's been very critical about the fact that, o, I felt so much better in Canada because at least I was quick and if he has another good race and Kiman no retires they're level on point. so He's there. Hopefully not for kimm's sake. we don't want that to happen. we want it said in a settled ent, wasn't he? Exactly. And they' both they're both like the Mercedes liability thing, I think has the potential to ruin the championship fight this year. abbsolutely. and just generally the reliability. P one Patreon member Uk o three Do you think Max will leave Red Bull at the end of the season No, I don't think you will. I think he's probably wanting to leave Formula onene right now is not enjoying these cars at all. U the to kind of Tal of the incident again was something similar to the Austria qualifying where the rear wing didn't feel right and' kind of with the whole active aerow situation and he's gone into the corner, lost the car, gone off into the gravel and He's just so doneumb. We're looking at a situation where Max would have been P three And and I would have been here going, how on earth has Match Verstappen finished third in a race like that where they had no pace did not look as comfortable as Hadjar, particularly in qualify like in qualifying definitely and And he's come away from a P three, but that moment going into the gravel right in front of the Lando stand, of course, like of all the places it could have gone off literally like facing that stand And yeah, he was running in the podium positions. and instead, and for everyone that thought Maybe Max can do it this this year. I mean, technically he's lost no points went to. That's why I said That's why I said I was Austria and Char lecler He he's minimized the loss. no points lost to Kimmy Antonlli so I feel very much like how you feel last year about about this th where it's like If this was last year I'd have been like obviously I was absolutely guuted and annoyed about it because I want Max to do well, but it is that situation of like this year is so painful and such a write off for Max that when he goes off, it doesn't weirdly feel as bad It doesn't hit the same as if he was leading the if he was leading the race and it was like in that championship fight for last year. I'm I'm, you know Jumping out the window, I appreciate the sentiment, but I just want to say you have no idea what it's like. okay? No I know Just' aware. Just Exactly. bad season seventy one wins. I can't remember even how What is it? Is he on time now? No? soose on Well you knew that, you knew that. I mean I've already Iented. I only mentioned it to you that he's not double digits yet and you were like, Oh, really? And then you brought it a together. So about Max Verstappen and leaving Red Bull What I found the most insane was that he didn't want to start on the grid today. He wanted to Pentially change his power unit, change everything about the car because he hated the balance That's mental. He was starting seventh and he wanted to start from the pit lane because that's how bad his car felt to him So to have had his car running in P three beforefore of course the crash It surely is like some kind of miracle drive for Verstappen, but obviously ended up in the gravel with With an incident that again, he's likened to Austria the fact of the rear wing not closing properly, but Every replay I see is that that rear wing is closed Anthony Davidson, I think broke it down as well and was like, look, I don't really see anything to suggest that It isn't closed Of course there's a lot more telemetry, a lot more data and there could be other weird things going in the car that We can't see visually And I do think that Max V Stappen gets the benefit of the doubt especially your side, Tommy, that no way can he make a mistake like that and crash I do want to say he has also, you know, binned at that corner only last year, just a little bit further down being old to spin there, didn't he off a very different a very different different kind of in he res Yeah But yeah, I think it's safe to say Max isn't perfect. No When he comes away from this saying things like the car is just doing weird stuff that he doesn't expect. And also when you look at the onboard, you kind of go Is he really going to lose it there like that? Like the rear did seem pretty loose and would, I guess for max kind of almost his thoughts of it must have been the rear wing that was open, but is such a strange strange problem for Redball at the moment, it seems It is it does seem a situation where yeah, like doesn't know. what is wrong with this car and he's struggling to find it. And obviously we don't drive the car. so we don't know what it feels like to go into the corner and how the active aero behaves and stuff He's obviously convinced that it is this U this rail wing issue. Um, which of course, I do agree with like you look at it and it doesn't You know, it's not a situation like a Jack Dan Suzuka where he' forgot to close DRS. you know what I mean? Didn't forget he actively thought he could Sorry No one sorry it was there was one at Silverstone. I think it was Ericsson one year. wow. That was a mass forowback. But it was he took, yeah, turn one flat. and went off and yet it's just more misery for Max Verstappen and me. I mean, my word has there been really a race weekend this year where it's just not been either like crash or a DNF for like something going wrong for him because It's just constant, really, really now, isn't it Okay, next question and a slightly more silly one. Pe one pit remember Rosie Ranetsu How much fun was it seeing Alonso back on top today, even if it was just for a silly Lego cartting race The Lego cartting race was carnage, as you can imagine, because about seven or eight drivers, sorry, seven drivers and one non invited but still in a cart person was basically just cutting corners and went straight into the gravel, which I found rather hilarious. As for Alonso, so we were sat sort of halfway down Hangar straight where we were situated It's just the most bizarre thing to see Fernando Alonzso basically towering over his front wing or front nose of the car trying to I don't know, the balance of the car or where the center of gravity is or just trying to get any extra speed down Hanger straight was Like a fever dream U So yeah, I enjoyed the silliness of it. Of course, love the effort that Lego go into to sort of integrating into Formula One. I don't think anything will top the Miami race because those Formula One cars that were made of LeGgO were incredible. Of course, they were sort of like knocking into each other. Lego was going everywhere. This time there were barriers or sort of like protected barriers around the carts to one help Lego not be all over the track and to, I guess to preserve the actual things that they've built U But yeah, it was silly. I like it. It's better than just a normal drivers's parade. But yeah, I'd like to just see the twenty two drivers and no one else invited. Thank you Yes, I'll talk about that in a sec. but as for the actual driververss parade, to say that they're meant to be the twenty two best drivers in the world, I don't know what was going through their head when they're like, let's all just drive straight into the gravel trap because it was only going to end one way the fact that it happened immediately as well was like Oh no and slightly imagine many of the fans were probably thinking, are they actually going to come around? We actually going to see a driver's parade here? We The funniest thing is I remember hearing over the Tanooy. the first thing I heard, I guess it's from the circuit commentators was Charle leclercs lasted in the gravel. I was like, ah Is that foreshadowing for what I'm about to see? Hopefully not Thankfully not But ono Mohammad Ben Slean The FA Pident Yeah Just I'm going I'm going to say it as much as yeah without getting annoyed and angry, but know I'm going to get angry. he's just it's just a classic case again of him just trying to be the main character when no one cares. and He didn't need to be there. The fact that he was he was literally bumped drafting Kimmy Antonelli as well, which screams like Kimy is the world Champion. This is his moment. a bit like when he you know, did the whole like roughing his hair and stuff with old Lannister Landao and he did something else with himim he poured water, didn't he on him, I think time. And it's like How can I make this about me and He didn't need to be there in the first place. He certainly didn't need to be actively like racing and bump drafting Kimmy when Kimmy's trying to have his moment waving to the fans and stuff and he'sushing gave himself a bit more power in his car as well to be able Yeah, probably And u I want to read a comment out actually on it's funny because he's his Instagram there's a picture of him in the cart which again Best people in power don't make it about them and you don't really see much from them. And he has got a picture of him in his car on Instagram. Of course he's disabled comments for a lot of things. H heurprising Unsurprising. But yet there are still loads of them. of people going like, don't do it again. this isn't about you. like why did what's Broad doing and stuff But the one that made me laugh, which has got the most likes is New How do I That's right, new how do I make this about myself mode unlocked And it's like that is the most accurate thing ever. It's called the driververs's parade. Yeah, exactly. You're not involved. go away. Like's just say Annoying. All right Tommy, nextxt time we're in the padd, can s to his face. There you go. How about that? No, you wouldn't. No would it. Don't be silly. But we said it on the podcast. So so there you go. Right, let's move on to biggest winner Driver or team U wonder who I might crown biggest winner Chaalucler Never been more back We're getting double digit victories in Belgium Let's go. Indeed. it's got to be it's got to be Charlot Cla especially after the run he's been on I would throw in the fact there's a few here. Bortoletto deserves a shout. someone we've not spoken about, Audi of finally got some points on the board and a P eight is brilliant as well. They were finally there O well, only one of them because only one of them iss allowed to finish of course in these races. but Finally for Bortiletto, a race of attrition or somewhere like the top top drivers being out in such as like Antonali and Verstappen, they could capitalize and Pastry with the problem as well capitalize and bg a lovely little P eight, which is something that A D has not scored for a very long time racing balls again, my word. they are just having such a good season. chill the seventh. They are just chilling those two. What I found interesting firstirstly Piastro, we haven't mentioned him at all because his race was over before it even beggan He got sandwiched by both of the V carbs, which caused his front wing to basically just turn inside of itself, turn six. So Piatra's race was over very, very quickly. And then for Lynn Blad and Lawson, of course we're at the track, we're trying to get all the information we can. I noticed there was a team radio where Limblad came over and was like, Lwson needs to pick up the pace, which is basically Guys, I know you told me to not pass last time. doesn't pick up the pace, I might do it again post race interviews, he seemed pretty miffed off There was no real context about it that the interviewer was trying to get a bit of like, oh, what was it like you know racing the British Grand Prix? And he was like yeah it was great There was just something off about that. And considering he's finished seventh, which is one of his best results It just felt like something's going on at VCAR I want to know more about. We're not going we're not we've not seen the end of of Austria and what happened in Austria between the two of them They we're racing again very close. And if and if RrVid continues to kind of Now the racing bos has got better step up and be able to challenge Lawson a bit more and be on on the pace of Lawson every every now and then em braceing There are two drivers that are going to give it everything. Limblad's going to you know, Lawson, we know is a very aggressive driver and likes to race hard. and Limblad equally is going to thinking the way He needs to be able to prove himself is to beat Lawson. so he's going to want to do everything to do that and u Yeah, I think this is not the end of this. I think it's going to be fascinating to see how that continues between the two of them because I would not wouldn't put it past like a little collision or something the of the season. It feels like it' a wheel bang or something. It feels that way and then they'll both be talking about each other in the media, I'm sure. I've just seen a social post come up not to do with these two, to do with the main team actually, Max Verstappen. He tweeted all very frustrating Time to recharge before spa recharge I feel like that is definitely a little dig on what the cars are currently giving him. Let's now go to Biggest loser where Max of course is a honourable mention, but I don't think he gets the full bigiggest loser awward because that one has to go to Kimmy Antonlli surely from being In a position to win the race, I firmly believe that he would have beaten Charles lecler had he not picked up that damage. He was so much quicker than him. He had a good ten or so laps to go. And And he's lost eighteen points to George Russell where he should have been gaining. thirteen or something, maybe if things hadn't pan out the way it did with the safety car and things like that. So yeah, Antonneelli for me Yeah, it's got to be Anttenll.'s had a You know, he was set to win win the race would have obviously come home with maximum points. he was absolutely felt like pretty unstoppable all weekend So fast, so comfortable and instead his nearest rival has gained Good amount of points on him and closed to within a win Right, let's get into our predictions that we made the start of the week. It is thirty twenty three to Tom Bellingham. seeven point lead as we head. British Grand pre predictions. So a good surprise. I went for Este Ban Ocon My go my goat got absolutely shafted by a sixteen and a half second pit stop What are we saying I'm saying It went from seventeenth to eleventh on that. Yeah, good start. It is a good start M M called a good a good start. Who had a good start. I feel for Ocong because I genuinely think without that pit stop he would have beaten Behman and I would have said, yes, let's have the good surprise point, It it's still sad for Ocon. I'm afraid and yeah I can't I can't claim it as much as I'd love to And I certainly can't blaame mine. It was looking very good. Lewis Hamilton of course started Brilliantly with that sprint poull position and looking very good indeed, but yet, L Clare won the race, Hamilton not as good in the main race and main qualifying. So can't bag what was going to be a An easy point do it as much as you know, P three year. No sorry, mate sorry, mate. Bix up Pierre Gazly got beaten by Franco Colapinto. That is a pot. now it's not he scored a point. So I can't even claim it And I went for George Russell, which was looking very much on as if George Russell was yeah, like so far off the pace of Antonlli icture. U yeah, just no pace, had a puncture wayay off in qualifying and yet has got a P two And I can already see that my kind of I'm not arguing the point's definitely not a flot point. But when we post this on Instagram, I can already see all the comments going, George Russell was a flopy. he was very good. from all of your burner accounts. Well done. OkayK, mate well done keep posting them. Keep posting it. but yes, no points, and I will be arguing with each and every one of you that say that it was a point I see it. One thing before we move on from big flop, onene person we've not not mentioned Port Alex Alburn who when we posted thatly of him doing predictures, obviously the P one curse, everyone we speak to seems to have a bad race immediately, Bortletto in Monaco. It goes on that was on a pre P one curse. That was a pre P one curse just the thought of going on P one. He was like, no left see you later. Yeah and We had so many Instagram comments on our video with Alex Alban if you askking his predictions and stuff going her, DNF he's got a DNF and then He shed it, finished twenty first, collided with Benman at the start G getting him beyond aoke, now isn't it? this. Yeah, sorry. please teams, if you are listening, we would still like to speak to your drivers. Thank you very much and I still am waiting for a Sco podcast. I really really need it even if he has a bad weekend, please come up. Right B Po I went for Kimy Antonelli which he missed out by eleven thousands of a second And I went for Max for seven us Yeah, it was close, but not close enough. Sprint winner. However, George Russell No. known for Antonelli, which is Oh my god, you're eight points clear now. So Pole position. I went for Kimmy Antonlli. And I went for Max Verstappen New You could tell I was on the riding the wave from Austria of like. You really were. you were Max is back, Championship back on. And now it's me saying championship back on for Chal Cler crazy. How one weekend can change everything? And I've now just seen that I am a massive fan of this safety car that came out because in third place I went for Hamilton, which is correct. U Iwen Paul. Vaen which are third on. It was correct And now it's not correct And I'm correct instead I've said that. Oh, it's literally the moment from Barcelona, where the late safety card changed everything now iss Finally, I' get away. I'm getting some good reliability. Ition l Be our prediction championship is like Anntelly and Russell like we're both having our moments that flip at the other Anelly I've got great pace this year but just not got good rivals shut in second place. The reason why I'm celebrating is because I have George Russell in P two. Give me that point. Thank you And I've got Antonelli in second and next. No, cadertainly not. In first place, I went Kimmy Antonelli, which is wrong and I'm happy to be wrong because Charl look Low one And I went for your a rusle fast, which was wrong Hm indeed. Now He what I had P thirteen where I had we had P thirteen. thirteen And What' going on with our words right now So like we've had we've been in the sun all day and I got to su said at eight AM but it's now eleven PM. Yeah, yeah, it's quite something. And I went for Carlos signigns, which He finished on the road in twelfth and then got a penalty lap. putut him down to what penalty lap U seventeenth. seventeenth. So that's far away and you went for Color Pinto who was was was far away. I think that's say it right. I think it's it right. Yeah yeah. and no one getsappointed for that. I love how Last last week, you're like the only point I got was PWat because you have to get a point. and we' like Oh no, may can we do it? No, I think it's zero. It wasn't a draw last time. was I won I won the PWatt so that was a point. That was like a legit one. So Yeah, that's what I mean. likeike they were like, you always score a point from P whatat and this someone this has proved that you can't that because we' both got Very wrong far away. So I was right. He was in P twelve, which is one away and then he gets a penalty lap Carlos signs because he unlapped himself when he shouldn't have unlpped unlapped himself And then the FIA accepted that the team made a mistake and it was quite confusing and then just slapped him with a penalty lap.
