The place to find a place hello everybody and welcome to the DHLY Eagles podcast on a really beautiful Thursday afternoon Bo Wolf EJ Smith, live from the Xfinity Studio, and presented by Bet365 and Ashley. Our position previews ahead of the draft, which is just two weeks away, rolls on. We talk about the defensive tackles today, EJ. Now, did you feel like the event last night where we got to watch Fran do some guys with the diehards? Went through several important uh first round possibilities. Did you feel like doing that with Fran made you a a bit more of a ball knower as you watch the defensive tackles in the last twenty four hours? How could you not? The way you watch his film, the way that he breaks things down, you know, just it feels like you know you're getting like a four hundred level course on tape study. So no, it was a fun event. It was it's always great to see the sicko's and then cousin Grace. Shout out cousin Grace. Oh yes. It was a very fun event. Uh and yeah I mean making everybody else who's not cousin Grace who was there feel bad. Well no I I met a lot of great people. Shout out to Richard, because I I did I finally learned his name. Um I met a lot of great siccos. I just like it's it was fun because they don't usually come up to you and tell you what their name is in the chat. Well I like yeah, I like I like when you meet a uh normal person who then tells you that they have a ridiculous chat name that they've just had to keep up with the sole channel . Yes. But no, it was fun. And uh yeah, I mean, how could you not learn something? Watching Fran do a bunch of guys on the time. Yeah, absolutely. All right. How are you feeling? Just like big picture wise, draft wise. And not I mean we don't need to get into uh How am I feeling? So mad at us. Oh my god. We'll talk about that at some point. Yeah, let's get that later. Fine. Oh my god. No, no, no, no. That's not gonna help. Stop. I mean how am I feeling big picture-wise? Lots of sticky diapers out there. How am I feeling big picture-wise about the draft? Is that wise. Like, do you feel like you have a you have now that we are really diving into the players themselves, do you do you have a better sense of like how you feel like it's all gonna play out for the Eagles? Uh yeah, I would say so. I mean it's incomplete, and that was why I wanted to go through the exercise with Fran last week where I did a mock draft before I watched all of the the prospects from all the different positions and got a better idea of where the strengths are at some positions and where the weaknesses might be. I would say I, you know, again, at as as a at an incomplete spot right now, I would say I'm probably I feel better about them addressing defensive line in the middle rounds because I've watched a lot of those guys and I can see theoretical upside swings in those rounds. I can see guys who could still have a pathway toward being starters, which is something Howie Roseman really values. And yeah, I mean I want to watch C O Lyman before I say this, you know, with conviction, but I could see them going with a non-premium position in the first round to try and get a true, you know, potential difference-making player. So uh, you know, next I think the next couple, the next couple shows and really through next week, we'll finish that picture. But yeah, watching the defensive linemen uh as like I I mean the whole group at this point, I do feel okay about whether it's like deny Dennis Sutton in the second round or you know, I think I've seen like um R Mason Thomas like lingering in like some third round mock drafts. I think that they will have options on day two in the draft to address defensive line where I don't I don't think they'd have to force it earlier than that. So Fran has his mock his two round mock draft today, which you can check out on all phl y dot com if you are a diehard. And it is um it is not a great situation when the Eagles are on the clock at twenty three. Yeah. In in this situation. So all all of the like second tier offensive tackles, who we will get to more in depth next week, are available. So Caden Proctor is available, Monroe Freeling is available, Caleb Lomu is available. Uh you've got Maxi Hanichor who's available, Blake Miller too, some people like. I know Fran does not does not love him . And then you know uh McNeil Warren from Toledo, the safety . And that's about it. And the uh Omar Cooper, the wide receiver, is available, and Denzel Boston is available. And I don't think that the Eagles would love to be sitting there at that standpoint. So I, you know, as Howie always is, I think he will have an itchy finger to try to to trade up . But I don't know, I mean, like I the idea of like trading up for Kenyon Sadiq,. Man is that that's sexy, that's splashy. Yeah. It's a very Eagles move. I actually don't know that I think that that's true though. I think it is. It's an Eagles move to move up, secure a player that you feel is an impact an impact player. And honestly, you're going to say it's not at a premium position, but they've done it for players at non-premium positions before. I mean, Jordan Davis plays a premium position, but he was an O's tackle and he had to have a very specific pathway toward being the premium type nose tackle that you pay a bunch of money to. You know, jihad Campbell last year they tried to trade up. So I do think if they feel like a guy like Kenyan Sadiq is top 10 on their board and he's lingering there at 18 or 19, I could see them moving up to get him. I think that this is kind of an inflection point for Howie draft wise. Yeah. After the Jahan Campbell pick last year, where if Howie Roseman is going to stay true to who he has been over the course of his career, you gotta build through the line of scrimmage. Yeah. You know, they they freaking nailed the Quinyon Cooper double dip the year before, right? Then you go jihad Campbell, that's that's two years in a row where they haven't a addressed the line of scrimmage. The offensive line obviously needs to turn over. I know that you can't you can only deal with the guys who are actually on the board. Yeah, but say, I mean if there's not a player at those at those spots that they grade highly. Then I think you gotta find a way to to to get there. Yeah either get up or move down and take your medicine. Um I I I think if the Eagles if Howie starts chasing the splashy thing. I love I love Kyan Sadiq. I think that would be it would be so much fun. Watching Fran break his tape down specifically last night. He's awesome. Like every he I know what you were talking about his um his production, but when you just watch like the way that he blocks in space on down blocks where he's able to, you know, just like clear out a defensive end, like , you know, watch him like uh go up and get one on a jump ball. Hit he's got a really complete game. So the more I've the more tape study we've done, the more convinced I am that he is the type of player that would make sense to move up for. I know and and it it is a way where you can sort of have your cake and eat it too. And it's it's helping you this year while also giving you hopefully a long term tenth pole. It is it is probably the best possible way to to split that difference. Yeah . But I just something tells me that Howie is gonna he's gonna get up there on d night one of the draft and be like, listen, we had to stay true to who we are, and we know that long term we need to build to the line of scrimmage. Yeah, so if that's them drafting um Caden Proctor. Sryor, I was watching Caleb Proctor earlier. So I really like catch myself there. If that is them drafting Caden Proctor and they view him as a guard only , I guess that it would be an Eagles-y pick. But I don't know. I have like mild reservations about that. I don't, you know what I mean? I think that Caden Proctor will be like, if he does bump into guard, he's gonna be a Landon Dickerson type guard. Uh, you know, we were talking about it before the show. Like, I think that if you drafted Caden Proctor , you might hope that he's your Lane Johnson successor. And they never made a good point. I think we probably need to reframe that as like the right tackle. I think that's a very good point. You know, like you can't you're not gonna find Lane you know shout out to the case. went You you and Jason Peters to Delane Johnson to Jordan Mylott. Let's let's let's not hold them to that standard. And I've I've got to find a future starting caliber right tackle. And I've had conversations with Jason Kelsey and Cam Jergens about being the Jason Kelsey successor. And all that comes with that and the pressure that comes with it. And you know, I I remember Cam kind of shied away from that title uh the year before he became the actual successor for Jason Kelsey. He was, you know, non-committal about like, well, maybe I'll play guard. You know, I think he didn't want to think about it. It's a real thing for these guys. It's a human thing. So um, with that said, I think if you're drafting Kaden Proctor, you're hoping he is a right tackle maybe in the future, but I think you're also maybe guarding for a Landon Dickerson successor, you know, a left guard of the future as well. So if you're talking about the difference between a guard and a tight end and those are the two that you're looking at, I still lean Sadiq at this point. And I didn't a week ago, which again sho ws you the importance of actually watching these guys for yourself. All right, let's get to the defensive tackles. Um one guy who was like consensus yeah gonna go around that pick at twenty-three. And I think we would both be pretty blown away. Yeah. If Peter Woods of Clemson found his way to Philadelphia, just given the fact that the Eagles already have three very good defensive tackles. Yeah. I can, you know, there's a if you want to say we really held true to best player available, this is a guy that we just couldn't pass up. He spent a little bit of time on the edge when he was a true sophomore. He mean he's a he's he's huge. Six four or six two, three ho three hundred and two pounds. Yeah. It has shorter arms than you'd expect though. Thirty one It does. Thirty one and a quarter. Let me tell you about those thirty one and a quarter inch arms here. Uh oh, you've got some data. It is uh that is it those are red flag arms. I'll buy you some time while you look this up. Those are those are shorter arms. Sorry. Sorry. Uh any of the thirty five defensive tackles who were lead uh in my in my sample size. You know, everybody talks about Aaron Donald. His were thirty two and five eighths. Peter Woods, thirty-one and a quarter. Reminds me a lot though of Mason Graham from last year. Um and Mason Graham's a top five pick. I don't see a a huge difference between him and Peter Woods. I I mean I thought Peter Woods and what I saw was was pretty awesome. Yeah. Um, but I I would it is for that reason . The arms maybe he falls . Th there's a world where he's just standing out like a sore thumb to the Eagles and they say we can't we can't afford to pass it up. I don't know. I I think it's I would put one turkey on it. Yeah, yeah. I was gonna say I'd probably put less than five turkeys on it. I mean I I think at that point you probably do just take your medicine and trade out and hope that somebody's desperate to get him. Um he's a fun player to watch. I think most first round prospects probably are uh at this point. To me, he wasn't like popped off the tape so much that it's like, oh my God, like you know, you you had you would have like I feel that way about Keltrick Falk. If if Keltrick Falk is there at 23, you draft him and you figure it out. Yeah, even if he is like, you know what, like I you know, I even if they what even if the eval for him is you know what, he's a four-eye guy for us, he's somebody who we want to bump inside. You know, we want him to keep, you know, putting on weight and become a true defensive tackle. If that if he was there at twenty three, it's still like draft that guy. I think I know get a blue chip player. I wouldn't say Peter Woods Woods was quite that for me when I watched him, so I'd have a hard time seeing it. I think I I think I probably agree with you. Yeah. Um a couple notes from Friends Draft Guide. And here my favorite thing, well that's that's I don't know if that's true, because there are a lot of great things about the Die Hard Draft Guide. One of my favorite things is the uh numbers that matter section. Yeah, that is a great section. It's a great little you know just tells you all the all of the hard work that Fran is putting in. Uh a couple here. Recorded a run stop rate, uh which is a tackle on an unsuccessful run play by the offense on 11.2 of his career run defense snaps, which would be the seventh highest career run stop rate of any charted defensive tackle drafted in the last decade. And then the other one is just 12, and this is this is the flip side of it, and this is the short arms. Just twelve of the two hundred and fifty-two defensive tackles drafted in the last decade came in with arms under thirty-one and a half inches inches with just three in the first three rounds. Kalijah Can cy, still early, Braden Fiske, who's been pretty good, and Kobe Turner, who's been very good. It's not disqualifying, but it's like if you it's one of those things where if you're good enough to overcome it, you go early. Yeah, true. It's kind of more like lop you off if you're if you're not good enough to be in the first or second round conversation. Which of those three players do you think I just loved coming out of school? And it's it's definitely like fancy. Yeah, it's where it's like, why did you love him? I mean, use Tracy. Use athletic. I love an interior. You'll learn this today. My thing with interior alignment is I just love guys who can move like they shouldn't be able to move. That's my thing. I agree with that. Yeah. Well, no. A lot of things that are just like I like I like guys who look like they're gonna be really good. Well no I was talking to one of the sick hosts about this yesterday. I was like, you know, Bo and I, I feel like we uh have complimentary like uh approaches with the prospects because you do a really good job with data and kind of being able to um, you know, as you just said, lop guys off if they don't fit into a certain category a st stat a statistical category. Um, but for me, it's more about the feels. It's more about do I feel something when I watch the guy? Uh and listen, I think yours is probably more grounded in like getting it right, but I don't know. I enjoy it. I enjoy like the feeling you get when you know it's funny. I this is a ride with me on this analogy. Okay. I texted you yesterday and I was like, yeah, or I think I said it to you on the phone. Yeah, when you asked me this question, I thought you were talking about a prospect. Well, yeah, it's it is very similar. So I t I think I asked you on the phone, I said, Do you ever do you know what it's like when you find a great band that you'd never heard before? Like that special feeling where it's like, I I discovered this. I can't believe I didn't know about this before. Like that's how I felt about a band I listened to while I was watching these guys. And you know, some of these prospects you feel that way. It's like, oh my God, like denied Dennis Sutton. I'm like, why is nobody talking about this guy? He's amazing. So, you know, it's a it's been fun watching these guys. Okay. Uh romantic about drafts prospect scouting. Shocker. It's important to me. Romantic. Uh let's take our first break here on the other side. We'll get into we will give you our favorite day two possible prospects and just have a a more of a discussion about like do you think the Eagles are thinking like they need to find a Moro Ojimo replacement if he's gonna leave next year? Stay with if you really want to hear it, you gotta stay tuned. Okay . Let's bring in the right people presented by our friends at TrueMark and talk about our favorite potential D uh not D2 round two or day two defensive tackle prospects for the Eagles. Do you let's get to the conversation we were we were teasing before. Yeah. How do you think the Eagles feel about their defensive tackle um depth. Yeah. Do you think the pipe that's the right question to ask because they are obviously top heavy at the position. You know, you have Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. You'd expect them to eventually be both on long-term contracts and really the the featured part of that room. But we've learned from the Eagles over many years at this point, and especially even going back with Fletcher Cox, you're really only as good as like your second interior rusher a lot of times because you know, the primary guy is going to get a lot of attention and a lot of double teams. Now, maybe Jordan Davis can continue to grow into a pass rusher that you know can take advantage of those one-on-ones and can really punish teams that want to slide the protection toward Jalen Carter. But the Moro Jomo, Milton Williams, Javon Hargrave role has been important for this team. And, you know, just looking at it, like Moro Jomo played 66% of the Eagles defensive snaps last year. So I don't think they're going to be able to afford to pay him. And I think that they are going to have to continue to rotate through a player on a rookie contract to counterbalance that that top heavy room. So for that reason, like the the time I spent the most on in this exercise was guys who I think are in that Moro Jomo fold. You're not gonna find uh Moro Jomo in the seventh round like they did. Uh so can like very consistently. I think you probably are starting to look on day two and early day three. And I'll be honest, there are some guys that I do like in that range because the the the the benefit that the Eagles have is that they can be really, really selective in they don't they're not looking for an all-rounder. You know, they're not looking for a defensive tackle that they're not looking for a three-down defensive tackle. This is like if you have your two-way tight end and you have your receiving threat and you're all you're looking for is a blocking tight end, right? It's kind of similar uh on the interior line for them here. They you know there will be teams that go, oh, you know, this guy is really just a pass rush specialist. He's just an undersized quickness, you know, merchant, if you will. The Eagles can really, you know, go all in on a player like that. So I think that they'll have opportunities to. And yeah, I think there are guys who fit that that description. Okay. Let's hear your first one. Who who do you who do you like ? Who is the right person? I 'm looking for. Really like a DT. Tyler Onyetum from Texas A M. Oh, really? I really like him. Interesting. Twenty two years old. Well, the people should know this is you're going against Fran. Fran doesn't like this guy. He is Fran's defensive tackle 15 . Five years senior after four years at Ohio State out of Texas AM. Uh light, long arms, good jumps. Yeah, six three, two ninety-two. Some way I like him. He is the type of player I was just describing. He is not going to be for everybody. He's a because he's an undersized interior rusher who is really based off of quickness. I feel like he needs a year or two to develop, but for that reason, I feel like he's perfect for the Eagles. You know, he is, he can be a morrow adj omo understudy for a year and step into a pass rush specialist type role. He didn't have as much power as I would have wanted at that size. Like, you know, he's uh he so like we talked about it on yesterday's show at the edge rushers. You can be undersized, but still have like real pop in your hands. You can still, you know, have a really, really strong bull rush. He doesn't quite have that, but he's got great lateral quickness and he can win really quickly, which I think is important if you're going to be in the specialized role where you're in a one-on-one situation. So I see a pathway for him to be an impact player. And I think the Eagles are well situated for a player like him to figure out how to reach his potential. Okay. You're not a fan of Oniad, Oniad um. No, but I think I I think I am probably a little bit clouded by when I see a guy who Fran is clearly lower on than consensus. Yeah. I am watching him through that prism. Yeah. But I did not, I was not, I was not blown away by by that's fair TO here. I like uh there are a lot of these guys too that are really quick off the ball. And I don't know. F you're you were correct. Fran is a lot lower on him and I I'll be honest. He's projected as like as a third round pick. This isn't this is not gonna be the first time that I go against Fran, which is probably interesting. I mean but listen, it's good for the show. You know, it's a i it's a marketplace of ideas on these guys. It was more ball than Fran. I just did not say that. I will give you mine. Uh and you asked me before the show. Oh no. What do you think of Grayson Helton? You like this guy from Oklahoma. And I don't, I don't love Grayson Helton. He's a very specific kind of player, but uh he's a four-year senior from Oklahoma. He's Fran's defensive tackle six. He goes six two and five eighths, two ninety-three. So he's not a big guy, and he's got short arms, thirty-one and a half. But he's a very weird athlete. And I have their uh defensive tackle, DK Metcalf because he's got these great jumps. Yeah. An elite thirty-six and a half inch vertical jump, which is which is better than every single defensive tackle in this sample except for JJ Watt. But he gets really bad advice, I think, and runs the uh you know the the the agility stuff. Yeah. And he has a three cone and and a sh a short shuttle that are terrible below the bar. Twenty percentile on the shuttle. The twenty yard shuttle. And worse than anybody in the sample on either one, except for I think one guy on uh except Akeem Hicks's short shuttle. Can I show the spider chart? I don't know if they can see it. It's a weird spider chart. And it's fun . You know, Fran has talked about like you want to sometimes these great testers, you know, that they th they don't look like the athlete that they are. Yeah. Grayson Halton looks exactly like this athlete that he that he tests like. Explosive. He's explosive off the ball. Yes. Flying upfield. Yeah. And anytime he's got to change direction, it's like a you know, it's like it's like a huge ship and being asked to do it. And he and he takes forever. And so it's really fun to wat to have that information and then watch him play exactly that way. But I can squint and see that guy as as as a more wood replacement coming on the field on third down, flying upfield. And you know what else I was thinking to myself ? Get this guy under Jim Schwartz and now you're cooking. Straight line. This is like this guy was meant to play for Jim Schwartz. That was in France Scouting Report for him. Oh, yeah, was that not Jim Schwartz, but that he would be very well suited for a one gapping system. Um yeah, and I okay, maybe not. It's actually s it's slightly similar to the testing from Javon Hargrave. Um so uh J Von was a little bit a little bit squattier and a little bit heavier, and had had a slightly better uh agility stuff, but it's a similar profile. Yeah. I didn't hate him. I kinda liked him. I liked him. But that's the kind of player you're talking about. He's not he's not gonna hold up on first and second down. He is there to just penetrate upfield. I viewed him through the prism of him being Fran's favorite day three guy, and I was a little bit underwhelmed. So um I'll be honest, yeah, I'll be the the the one who who zags here. I would take Tyler O'Neilletem over Grayson Helen. Oh interesting now I don't think I think that's a zag against Franz look at it. And he's watched way more tape on these guys for the me. I will always concede that. But I don't think it's probably not a zag against the consensus big board, if I had to guess. Uh no, I think I think that they're about similar on the consensus big boards, but I think yeah, I think uh on Yetem is slightly higher. Yep. So Yeah, I've got two guys. They might be more at least one of them is probably more day three. Let's c how about I quickly go through like the two through five? And you tell me if you if there's anything on them. So the uh Franz defensive tackle two is Caleb Banks, big fella, six six, three twenty-seven. I mean, you're talking about a nose tack le here. Yeah. Enormous arms, thirty five and a and a quarter inch, which is longer than the longest I have in the sample. Um, or ties him with Mohammed Wilkerson. Solid vert as well. Had a foot injury that cost him all but three games this season, uh, after he had a kind of a breakout four and a half sack junior year. I do think that he's the kind of player who it like if the injury pushes him all the way down to round three, yeah, that Howie would be like we gotta just take the guy. Possibly. I I was pretty tepid on like anybody who would infringe on Jordan Davis's role. Yeah it's hard to imagine them using real draft capital to add another uh you know like nose tackle. But he does have to come off the field at some point. And so Yeah, but it's like you already gave uh you've already you've already invested so heavily yeah at the nose tackle position it's like bringing another Lin Val Joseph to be the guy that goes in behind that. Yeah. But if it's if it's just value, this guy is way better on our board. You know, it's it's not unlike N'Kobe Dean. Yeah. Um, I don't think that's crazy. Uh Caden McDonald, the Ohio State defensive tackle is Fran's defensive tackle. Three, three, your junior. No flags in terms of the testing or anything like that. I do I'm starting to wonder about the more we Ohio State guys on the defense, so you're starting to remember the conversations about the Georgia defense from a few years ago, like how much can you how much credit can you give to one guy if everybody on the defense is really good? Is that a positive or is it a negative? Uh and I think Fran sort of summed it up with with Cade McDonald and his in his bo The biggest question is the overall athletic upside to consistently impact the quarterback. Each team will decide what that means for them. To me, that means this is uh this is even more of yeah. You're not you're not pairing this guy with with Jordan. Right. You can't have you can't have uh that many nose tackles who don't offer you anything as pass rushers. Yeah. Uh I think the same goes for the guy with the best nickname in the draft, the big citrus. Big citrus. Dominique Orange . Four years at Iowa State, uh, six two and a half, three twenty-two. Another guy who's who's fun to watch, but but just doesn't really make sense here. I think agreed. I I didn't spend a lot of time watching him for that reason. All right, I will take you now to DT5 because this is a guy I like. Really? Who I actually think has some potential eagles possibility. That's Daryl Jackson Jr. Okay. Who is a fifth-year senior. So he's a tick old, but not not he's not 24, he's a 23. Uh one year at Maryland, one year at Miami, then three years at Florida State. Um , really long arms, thirty-five and a half inch again. Um, but he is not like he's a little bit lighter, and these are the guys I really like watching this. It's yeah, he reminds me a lot, and i I don't think it's just the Florida State thing. Reminds me a lot of Broderick Bunkley where he's he is built like that guy doesn't look like a defensive tackle, he just looks like a big like a huge linebacker. Yeah. There's no, there's no gut. It's just like this guy is strong. And he doesn't get moved off the ball. Um, really stout. And he like he when he extends his arms, he is just move it is awesome. He's moving people. He is not a police pass rusher. I don't know that he really has a lot of third down upside, so it's not an ideal fit. But he's just a good football player. Yeah, and if yeah, I you know, if it's late third round, if it's fourth round, I like the player a lot. I'm surprised that you went for an old here, but he is fun it's not too old. Yeah. I mean this is a difference between twenty. This is a fun intersection of like I like the Traitsy guys, so I see six five with thirty five and a half inch arms. Although you know I love the short guys with the long arms. There's one guy who we get to who's who's like a tiny little bowling ball. Now we're talking. Uh, um yeah, how do How do you feel about the phrase country strong? I like it. Nothing wrong with that. It's pretty uh it's like it you know what it means, right? This guy's not he doesn't look like a natural strength. Yeah, just I think of Fletcher Cox when I think of that. I think of Hank Aaron. Oh, that's a good one. Yeah, like how he used to have to carry the dice. Yeah. His forearm, so you had the big forearms. Yeah, like that's yeah, that is like you um my dad would probably say you should think about your grandfather as country strong count country strong on that one. Um but yeah, it's like you you earned your strength through hard work, not in a gym, but you know, actually doing real work. Okay. So who is your other guy? Oh so I've got two day three guys. Oh okay. Well then we'll take a break. Okay. We'll come back. I think Fran's gonna join us pretty soon. Uh we'll talk about our favorite day three guys. Stay with us on the PHMY Eagles podcast. How you doing, EJ? I'm doing pretty well. It's not actually that beautiful. It's like it looks it looks nice, but it's cold out. It's not that cold. It's pretty cold today. I mean, we're wearing long sleeves. I mean it's like sixty degrees, right? It's been cold. It's been cold all day. It's fifty seven. I woke up this morning, I looked out my window. I looked that's not a thing. It's forty one. Um Um it's fifty seven. I looked out my window and I saw that the front yard was frosted and like my heart dropped. Like I've been cutting my grass. It's really bad for the grass. Oh really? It frosts, yeah. They this always happens here too. It's like all the plants, they start developing buds and they're like, All right, it's time to let's grow. And then we hit with the frost and then everything dies. It's fine. Here's my here's my only thing that compares to that is we have a uh we we have a on the street we live in, we have a tree in front of our house. Yeah. Beautiful cherry tree. And we I get I get two weeks a year where that thing is in bloom. And uh it makes me so happy when that thing is in bloom. Yeah. But there's a few other trees in the neighborhood. So I'm always walking around comparing comp whoaring's you know the best tree. Yeah. Uh yeah, you know, I'm I'm partial to mine, of course. There are bigger ones, there are ones that bloom earlier, but then, you know, early showers they're you know, it's you know Okay . Slow and steady wins the race. Yeah. So right now we're at the point where like it's almost full, but the top has not fully fully popped yet. And this weather might mess it up. This weather might mess it up. I hope not. Uh it's always it's always gonna bounce back. I hope so. I hope so too. Yeah . All right . Wanna talk to you in the tackles you want to do about you want to do that? Let's just do this. Yeah, let's just do it. Alrig.ht I mean, we talked about it a little bit yesterday. Yes. Everybody's so mad. I'm so angry. Like we'll t we'll give it a minute here. I understand the perspective of these guys talk about all different kinds of things and yet they don't have time for this . I will give you a little bit of time. I think that's a fair point. It is only tangenti ally related to the Eagles. Uh if you need me to tell you that this doesn't look good , it looks bad. Now you know you can go on with your life. I don't know why you needed me to tell you that. If you need uh a lesson in media literacy about like what an insider is and what that job entails, eJ has a class . You can sign up for the journalism class. Maybe that's a good place to do it. But here's the other thing. Aside from not really wanting to get into the personal lives of people, the idea that this is somehow part of some grand anti-Eagles conspiracy as if AJ Brown's discontentment has been fabricated is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I cannot imagine how dumb people have to be to think that is the case. As if you in your own, with your own eyes and ears, have not followed AJ Brown as an eagle over the past year . Like the uh how deep how deep does this does this QAnon level conspiracy go? Like did the Rams almost trade for AJ Brown because they were part of it to o? And how is Jenky Rondo involved somehow ? Like who got to Jenky ? Like are you kidding me? And the athletic reported that the Eagles and Rams are close to a trade. So this the is Rams talked about it at the owners' meetings. They almost traded for AJ Brown. So this hasn't just been a Patriots uh it does not aid the Patriots for the Rams to be involved in that trade. So the only thing I want to add is the clip that's circulating of us defending Diana's reporting. Like we how were we to know the information that has come out in the last week? We did not know the information, obviously. And we also aren't in the business of speculating about somebody's personal life. Um, we know what's out there, you guys all know what's out there. We really don't have anything to add to what's out there other than what we did yesterday, which is addressing how it affects the Eagles, which we do not think is very much. So other than that, like I said yesterday, I like to mind my business with stuff like this. I don't like to talk about these types of things on the show. And that's consistent with players and with coaches as well. Um, I don't talk about players or coaches' relationships and there have been rumors about both and we don't discuss them on the show. So that's really all we have to say about it. I know that you guys really want us to say more, but honestly like I'm okay with that conversation living where it lives and us not being a part of it I have one other thing that I think is actually even dumber than that. We go about this very differently. The idea that you would expect someone who got to janky? To comment on their co-worker in this way? Yes. I mean, how dumb could you be ? Get a life. Who did get to janky. I didn't involve. Who knows? All right. Defensive tackles. Defensive tackles. Who do you like in uh day three? Who are your who are your day three guys? You said you have five guys. Yeah, I've gone through a couple of them, okay. I've got two day three guys in particular who I like. Um the first one, Caleb Proctor. I like Caleb Proctorrog.. F Southeast Louisi ana. This is what the draft is all about, man. 6'1 . Southeast Louisiana. He's blowing up. He's running through people. Yep. 6'1, 290, 91 pounds, 33 inch arms , natural leverage. Yeah. He's low to the ground. He's got them long arms. He's gonna lift those offensive line with a powerful. 9.51 RAS score. And the thing that just gets your heart pumping when you watch it. Cause you're watching him, you're like, all right, this guy's doing it against Leicester competition. Two sacks against LSU. Heightened competition. It's like Harold Fannon against Penn State. It's like you gotta see that. When the when the competition level raises, he raised his game. He was still a problem. I love that guy. He's I like him a lot. Yeah. Uh very fun. Fran has not Fran watched him at the uh Shrine game. He's gonna I can see him there. He's gonna nod. So he's got you've got eit thereher's partial notes on him. He didn't fully write 'em up. Um, so you have some insight. But I like a lot. Yeah, he's a fun player. Yeah, he's fun. He's got I I I would I guess I would say he's got some Eaglesy like you could see the Eagles taking a guy like him. It's like uh Jelix Hunt. Yeah. Yeah. Just like the two small school guys on the defensive line. Right. Um the other one that I didn't like him quite as much as Caleb Proctor, but I did find him interesting. And I know Eagles fans will have interest in him. I've seen him like circulated as Zayn Durant. Uh six one, two hundred and ninety pounds, short arms, uh, but very athletic to kind of compensate for the fact that he's a smaller defensive tackle. He's really quick off the ball. Um, but yeah, I I just I mentioned with him as well that like he doesn't have like that pop in his hands that you want to see. Uh he's got a decent bull rush, but it's I think Fran might have written that he wins with his feet more than his hands, which I thought was a really good way of describing it. So um cannot be on the field on first and second down. Oh absolutely not. But this is again a Moro Ajomo, you know, type role that you're envisioning for him. He has uh you know upside, but I like some of the other guys better. Yeah. And I it's very hard for me to get past the biggest red flag here when you're when you're watching his film. Twenty eight for a defensive tackle? That's a terrible number. Yeah. What are we doing? It's strange. I can't be I can't abide that. I don't know like I mean maybe he's got a meaning maybe there's like a reason for it but yeah I just I can't be doing it tough one yeah not not great aesthetic that's tough uh all right who's who's your uh your next one those are my guys oh those are all of them. Yeah, those are my guys. Oh, okay. Uh this is this is undrafted free agency. I just want to see him in camp. I just want to see this guy's body in camp . Landon Robinson from Navy. 5'11 . For a defensive tackle. Oh, there is nothing I like watching more on the football field than a 5'11 defensive tackle. That is so good. Of course, he's a captain. He's, you know. He's got all the overachiever traits you would expect of a guy who's able to exist at five eleven as a defensive tackle. Did you look at his picture? No. Why? I mean your picture in something that is not I thought he I didn't think he'd be one of us is what I would say about Landon. Oh, oh yeah, oh I know, oh yeah, I know. I don't didn't know that we wouldn't like him as much. I didn't know we had many many Landons. Oh no, I wouldn't I wouldn't have liked him as much if he was what you thought he was, I mean that's not as fun for a 5'11 defensive tackle. Landon. That guy just that guy just needs to go get a real man's job. I don't ever met uh uh a person of color named Landon. I'm not saying it they're not out there, but I don't think I've met one. Okay. Good for him. It's a good name. Here's to you, Landon Robinson. Um all right. We are about to take a break, and then on the other side, we're gonna bring in Fran. Before we do that, let me tell you that if you were uh feeling a little bit of FOMO about last night's event where you got to watch Brandon do guys in person, well, we have a bit of a solution for you. If you are diehard on Monday night at eight o'clock Eastern Time, we're doing a virtual Franz film session where you can watch him do these guys. It's uh gonna be awesome. I see him squinting. He doesn't like the idea of saying doing guys, but you get to watch him evaluate prospects . And I think there's gonna be I don't know exactly how the virtual part of it's gonna work if there's like a back and forth on you know you can request who he's gonna do, but uh sounds like a great opportunity for the Siccos, who we know are not necessarily local to the Philadelphia area. So uh sign up for that, check it out and stay with us. We'll be back with more on the other side. Fran 's gonna give us the expert opinion on these defensive tackles . The All-City NFL Draft Expert. By the way, I love seeing the uh the enthusiasm for the Flyers in the chat. Big game tonight. Pre-game show starts here at 6:30. So don't miss that. Bran, how are you? Oh, we can't hear you . He's muted. What are we doing here? Uh great guys. It's uh it's been great to listen to you guys talking through these defensive tackles. I've got some thoughts. Okay. Uh anything you want to lead with ? Uh I it's funny because the Tyler O'Neadum, I I kinda like Tyler on Yedem. Um you know, I I to me like the uh I I see him as more like a role player type. Yeah. I I I like the player. I thought he was one of the best work in like workouts I saw up close at the at the combine. It's not a great D-tackle group. Um yeah, he's he's a little bit of a tough one. Uh just because the the film is a little bit up and down, but the the flashes are really good. Do you think he'd be higher on the Eagles board because him being a role player type might not be as much of a detracting factor considering what they already have in the room. I think that he's an Eagles type because of uh he's a guy that like Ojumo , I think he's got like front multiplicity. Like he's got the ability to win from multiple techniques and the you know stuff like that. Whereas some of these other guys that we're talking through um I think are like pure like all right this is kind of where they win. You know, like Zayn Durant, you kind of know like all right this is what he is. Caleb Proctor, who ironically enough, I have been watching since lunchtime. Um so I 'm that report actually will be up there. Uh you know, as you were as you guys were talking through him, I'm like putting the finishing touches on the re on the report. So Oh, so what do we think? Yeah, he's really fun. I mean, I I really liked him at Shrine, and I really liked him at Combine where he put on another like 15-20 pounds, you know, from Shrine to there. And I was like, man, like he he he still moves really well at that size. Um he he actually one of the things I put in just now in the report for uh like the numbers that matter, he has played 90 it was like 93.9% of his career snaps have come in the B gap like as a three technique. That's the highest rate, like that's at the highest rate of any defensive tackle charted in the last decade. He is a pure that's what I am. I am a three technique gap shooting defensive tackle. Um so you know the scheme versatility, you know, here in Philly, probably not that not quite there unless you get into a Jim Schwartz scheme, but uh I think that he's uh he's a really fun watch. Really quick front multiplicity. Oh multiplicity. Love that. That's a that's a football guy term right there. I'm gonna just I'm gonna just ask you for your thoughts on the my two takes. Uh that Grayson Helton is the perfect Schwarz guy? Hmm. Yeah, I th I would put him he is more of a like upfield gap shooter, one gap guy for sure. And then do you like what do you think about my Daryl Jackson Broderick Bunkley comp ? Uh I c I can get there. I l I like that. Uh what's funny is is that uh so with uh Daryl Jackson, who, you know, I mean just tall, long, huge hands, like just a great looking body, was on the same team down at the shrine bowl as Landon Robinson and watched those guys like go through like warm-ups and still literally like standing next to each other and Landon Robinson looks like you know like uh like like like make a wish kid like I was like oh this is what a great story this kid's out here uh but he he's both guys are really fun in their own ways uh Jackson I just he was like a top twenty five player for me coming into the year because just kind of like saying, like, all right like, if the if the upward trajectory continues, I'm really excited about Daryl Jackson. And he just always kind of like left me wanting, and even like seeing him up close, I'm like, man, that the ability is really, really high-level stuff. It's just like, can you light that fire? And then from what even from I understand, like talking with some of the coaches down there, it's like um you know, he's got uh he he's a good kid, like hard worker, all that you just kinda like need someone to you know, kind of light that fire, and if he can get with the right mentor, and that could be like a coach or a teammate, like a vet in the room, uh, then he can really take off. So uh Daryl Jackson, he's a he's an interesting player, certainly. Um we have like a couple other guys in your top 10 who you can buzz through if you want. There's Lee Hunter from Texas Tech after uh three years at UCF. Some terrible uh explosive testing results. Uh like 24 and a half inch vert, it's like the worst vertical in the sample. I think Chris Jones was the bottom one there. Um really bad broad as well. But they call him the fridge. So I like that. And what I really like is this this tweet he put out when he transferred from Auburn. Can you see this? No, I'm just laughing. I don't know where this is. So he commits to Auburn to play for Gus Malzahn and they fire Gus Malzon, but he still plays the first year under whatever that guy's name was. And then he transfers out and he tweets uh or I don't know, it could have been Instagram. He says, uh uh, he's leaving because we got treated like we wasn't good enough and like dogs. That's right. I do remember that actually. Yeah, I remember seeing that. And he goes to play from Elzan at UCF. Hm. Yes. Yeah. I mean I'm definitely I think I'm lower on can lower on Hunter than consensus. You know, there were some people that kinda like second round buzz to me, yeah. Yeah, I mean he was getting like some first round buzz like in like December, January, you know, Texas Tech, they go to the playoff and everybody's excited. Um and Hunter will have some splash plays that that can get you excited, but I just I didn't see the the the ability to consistently hold up at that size. And then you know, like the pass rush stuff like the gap shooting stuff was just okay. Um, yeah, I I kind of struggled. I I saw more of like a backup rotational piece. I didn't it's not like you can't play, but uh I saw more of like third defensive tackle in the rotation as opposed to a true starter. And you know, I I'm not taking that till day three. Um and then the last guy is your defensive tackle, ten10. Great name, Bryson Eason flows beautifully. Sixth year senior, three hundred and twenty three pounds. We're talking about a nose tackle. Doesn't make sense, but I do love when we get we get a numbers that matter from you. So I'm gonna read those for you . Eighteen defensive tackles drafted in the last decade have posted a pass rush win rate of six point three percent or less in their final season before being drafted. None of them have turned into consistent starters in the league. That's the case for Bryson Eason. No sacks in 500 snaps as a senior. Yeah. Yeah. He um he it's tough because when I saw him up close, I was like, oh, I think there's I think there's something here. Uh and then you know, just kind of going through the film again just kind of left me wanting. Uh so he's he's an older player like you mentioned. Tennessee, you know, they play those guys in waves. They have it's just a deep defensive line with young players still in the pipeline still coming. We know that last year they had a few draf ted. So I think just looking at Tennessee, those guys can be tough to figure out. But yeah, I wanted to like Easton more than I did based off the tape. Um I would say one guy that's outside of my top ten that I would say is piqued my interest. a bit. Okay Baylor's Jackie Marshall. Yeah, you like a Jackie Marshall. Yeah, I think there's something there with that kid, too. You know, he's a like Proctor, uh, converted line, you know, played linebacker, like Landon Robinson, played lineb acker in high school, then moved to defensive line, eventually defensive tackle. And uh he you could see that on tape and you can see that up close. Like you see the level of movement. Uh he's got gotten dinged up with injuries. Um talked to some coaches down there uh this offseason and they they speak highly of him as well. It's like you know what, like uh he was one too because I I wanted to talk with some coaches down there with him uh about him because you read through the lines on some like public quotes about him and it's like all right like you kind of see that there's like maturity things or like you know can you put it all together like you know that kind of thing. Um but it was like the the coaches all kind of like spoke high was like yeah like worked through it and came out better for it on the other side. Uh and so I I'm excited to see what Jackie Marshall could do. I was disappointed, you know, the injuries kinda I think kinda put a hamper a little bit on his senior tape. But uh seeing him at Shrine, I I was impressed. He he's got some juice and seeing him at the combine, I thought that showed up as well. Pretty good testing results. Six two and a half, two ninety-three at four eight eight forty. Uh with a one-six nine ten. That's a that's some explosiveness there . Yeah, he's uh there's uh to me, there's something there. Uh it's a it's not a great D-tackle group overall. You know, I think that you the the true like impact like upfield guys, there's not there's not a ton of them. And then with a lot of the players that I think were you know that are in that top 10 range are mostly like the run stuffers that don't offer a ton of juice, right? And so it's it's a if you need the the run stuffer, which the Eagles don't really need that, yeah, then you know okay, there's there's options, but if you if you don't really need that, this group's not gonna give you a ton. Uh let me ask your friend a a non-defensive tackle question or just a general question. The two guys who are coming through the pathway program from Africa, yeah. With these like amazing testing results. Yeah. Are are you doing work on those guys? Can you find out anything about them? I can. Uh I know the guy who who actually like is uh you know kind of heads the scouting for the for the international pathway program. Um and he it's yeah I mean the one guy is extremely gifted uh you know in terms of like the the the physical tools the athleticism um and this is this is very similar to this is Jordan Mylata, right? I think when you're looking at it, uh what happens now is we'll see like how many visits these guys end up going on. Uh and that's what happened with Jordan. Jordan went on a late visit to Philadelphia. Jeff Statlin fell in love with him at the at the workout. Then in terms of the the pre draft resident, I remember when Milata was in the building at Novicare uh for the visit and um you just kinda say like who is that guy? Because there's just there's not a lot of guys that they they look like Jordan, right? And so um, you know, it it'll be interesting to see if those guys end up getting drafted. I can't imagine it's anything later than the seventh, but like my lotta it's a situation where you are drafting them because you don't want to have to try and get into a bidding war in free agency for 'em. Yeah. Especially in this class, I think it would be worthwhile. Yeah, but one guy's name is UR Bernard. He went viral probably a week or two ago. I mean, he just looks like him as an editor, is that right? Uh I think he's a D-tackle. I think they listed him as an interior rusher. Um I yeah, yeah. I think he was like two ninety plus if I remember right. Yeah, he's six four and a half, three hundred and six pounds with eleven inch hands and almost thirty-six inch arms. Ooh, what was the forty time on that? Ooh four sec63 Yeah, 463 at 300 pounds. Yeah, like that's silly. I mean, let's go. Six percent body fat versus vertical jump of 30. Well, uh this is interesting, friend, because Connor Barwin was there last night just saying hi to everybody because the the event was um raising money for the Make the World Better Foundation. And if you think about okay, they don't have Stout anymore, but where do they really have? I mean, they we know that they have the the player development program in place led by Connor Barwin, but where is there a a a spot where they could have like a specialist really work with them? Feels like defensive line is probably the one. Absolutely. I gotta go to all ph y dot com to read about Connor Baron's uh work with the the young defensive lineman as a standing quarterback. Right. Yeah, it's um it's uh it's an area where the Eagles definitely feel like they have an edge, uh, you know, compared to the uh to other teams in the NFL. It is that that player development team and and I think the proof is there uh with the work that they've done with a lot of their young players. Okay. Um I don't know what else we have on defensive tackle for your friend uh how good do you think peter woods is like where is where is he in the uh mason graham stack ranking yeah he was i mean he was like my number one player if not coming in the yeah right number two player coming in the year yeah. And so um i haven't fallen too far off on that. Well here's what I will say about it though is that you know he was like three fifteen, three twenty last year and cut like fifteen plus pounds to you know to play closer to three hundred this year. And I do think that that showed up. I think he struggled, you know, holding the point to the level that he did a year ago. Uh obviously the production wasn't there, but that was the case with all the Clemson guys. What disappointed me, especially as the season went on, like getting into like, you know, week eight and and out from for Clemson, you know, watching TJ Parker, watching Avion Terrell. Like I didn't see the level of play, like the play personality suffer for those guys. Those guys were still going hard. To me, like the and this was a a thing I loved about Peter Woods watching in 2024 was the motor and the intensity and like I thought that waned as the season went on this year. Now you know hey you're you're playing you maybe he l you you lose confidence you're playing at a lower weight and you're getting bullied to a level, you know, to to the rate that you weren't expecting and you're not used to. This is a guy that has always been the best, you know, physical specimen on the field. Uh you know, showed up at Clemson as a true freshman and everyone knew like this guy's going to be a top ten guy, you know, uh in the future in the NFL, three and done. And you know, this was the first time where he he looked this bad. And so I would imagine that kind of wears on you. Um , especially the scene, the team's not doing well. So I'm willing to give them a little bit of grace there. But that would that I was saying that is what like what was most disappointing for me. Um and it just feels like despite the ability, and we know what the upside is, it's ca it is similar to the Keldrick Falk where I'm like, yeah, like all right, this is still a good profile. This is still a guy that I would want to bet on. Like he's young, he's athletic, he's all um I guess it does feel like people are kind of down on him, you know, around the league. Uh, and so I'll be interested to see where he ends up going. I still think he ends up in the teens. You know, I think that Baltimore, you know, Minnesota, some of these teams. Like I I do think that that's probably the range. I I I just to me with his talent, like I don't think I don't think the character there's been like stuff like oh like maybe you know work ethic maybe needs a fire lit under him like that kind of thing but nothing that would be prohibitive that he would fall you know into the deep 20s into the 30s I I I I would be surprised if he fell that far. Okay . Good take. He's a good player. He's a good player. I I honestly liked his film. Like if we're including 2024, like we know saying, like the total body of work, like I like him more than Mason Graham. Uh you know, Mason Thanks for joining us. We're gonna do running backs tomorrow. Do you think we will be excited about having watched these running backs? Um no . Okay. Yeah. It's not it's not a good group of running backs. Jeremiah Love is Love is awesome. He's honestly like one of my favorite running backs, like from a pure profile standpoint that I've ever done. Really? Yeah. I I I I love Jeremiah Love. Uh okay. Just like literally like everything about him I really, really like. How would he compare to Bijan for you? Well that's the thing is my my uh take from the outside is it's like, oh, we got a generational running back. It's like, okay, well we had one last year in the year before that. Like okay. Yeah. I mean I you know I th I don't know about like the generational stuff, but to me like I just the overall profile, right? And then it gets if you get into like the uh like some of the the background and like some of the notes I've got on the player, and it's like he he hurts his knee. And we'll you know I don't want to do the show before the show, but uh like hurts his knee last year, 2024, as Notre Dame's going on the title run, and uh so he he's he's not the runner. He's not the same level of player that that he wants to be, right? He's their leading rusher and he can't he can't carry that load. But he's like, no, like keep me out there, use me as a lead blocker for Riley Leonard on the goal line. Right. Like it's like he's a starting gunner on their punt coverage team as the lead ball catcher. Like it's like stuff like that where I'm just like, I just freaking love this guy. Like he's good, good in pass pro. He catches the ball, explosive. It's I I really, really like the player. Well, we really, really, really like the analyst friend Duffy thank you so much for joining us and stay with us in EJ time that it was EJ time. I've from CDP who says EJ, who is the biggest band you discovered early? The biggest band I discovered early? I don't think or maybe he means your favorite one that you discovered early. Yeah, I'm not um I don't know if I'm I've been on the ground floor of many like bands I love. Um certainly not the Beatles. Uh yeah I can't think of any. I I just it's not about finding them early. It's about finding them like a band that you didn't know. I mean Nah, I can't think of anybody. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, CDP. Wow. Poor CDP wasted his 199. Got no answer out of you. Uh, all right. I mean I didn't I did not discover these guys early. But Lake Lake Street Dive the one who was this week. Well Lake Street Dive, I've been listening to them for a long time and I feel like they are becoming more popular. Uh I discovered the Sacred Souls. And you want to talk about some Marvin Gay ass songs. Like those are like they are they are very, very like influenced by Marvin Gay and you know just that that era of music. So I was worried when you sent me big Marvin Gay vibes and it was not dissimilar to the Landon conversation where the the picture I could see was like two white guys. No, they're they're Latinos. Yeah, Latino guys. Yeah. But then yeah, then you you get a a a clearer picture. Okay. I'm I'm I'm the the lead the front man is uh yeah. Yeah . He's uh he's another landing. He's a r he's a real brother. Um yeah. Scary Pockets also. They've they're like a YouTube
