And tell us that. go here to the Let's poll into letter E versus M, who you got. Or do you like B O? Come on. All right. Real uh MJ. Let's for the for the the sicko's of this show who may be unfamiliar, tell us a little bit about uh Real Talk with MJ, where they can find you. Yeah, so I started Real Talk July 2020 and missed a COVID, got sent back home early from school. I was at Morehouse College and just thought, you know, let me just start my own thing, uh, my own platform and kinda like not wait for an internship or another opportunity, kind of just start with my my my myself. So it's been amazing and learned post production and how to edit, quickly learned hey, start a podcast, you gotta, you know, it doesn't just happen with just a snap of a finger. Uh has a whole production that does the editing and graphics and all of that. So you can find me at real talk with MJ on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and again I'm blessed to be here. And I've uh uh definitely saw a lot of your pieces and your articles uh for years on the Eagles and Bo your work with B Very nice. Yeah, we're excited to have you. Very nice to have you. And listen, I mean as a as a journal impro journalism professor over here, uh I think the thing that adjunct well, I think the thing that you you would tell people right is you want to get in the business start start doing the job yeah that you want absolutely and that you're a testament to that thank you okay well we have some Eagles news to talk about so we're gonna we're gonna lean into you here, MJ. We're gonna talk about uh as we go on the players who are under the most pressure this season. Maybe a little bit of why Jalen Hurts is so polarizing and some other things, but we do have we have some Eagles news to discuss. So let's start EJ with the return of Fred Johnson. What did you make of this and tell us the details? Yeah, so the Eagles are signing Fred Johnson to a one year contract. They are bringing back an important piece of their offensive line depth. You know, I I don't I you maybe you wouldn't call it a big signing, but it's an important signing because of the value that they place on that swing tackle position, the first tackle off the bench. And honestly, it's a signing I didn't know if they were going to be able to pull off going into free agency. Um, you know, I talked to Fred Johnson at the end of the year and he made it clear that he didn't coming back to the Eagles if Lane Johnson didn't retire. Um he felt like his play was strong enough last season filling in for Lane Johnson at right tackle that he felt like he'd get a a starting opportunity elsewhere. Obviously that didn't really materialize for him. And I, you know, last year he learned the hard way that the grass isn't always greener, right? You know, he signs with the Jacksonville Jaguars uh thinking he would get an opportunity start and you know, he obviously w wound up on the trade block going into uh the cutdown day there. So I think for that reason it makes sense for him to come back if his market didn't uh materialize the way he expected. And for the Eagles it is. It's a it's a significant signing as they try to rebuild their offensive line depth. It's an interesting one. And I think your read is probably exactly right. My guess here is the Eagles told Fred Johnson, go figure out what your market is. Yep. And then come back to us if you want, and we'll be here. But just from a and I discussed this on on the video that's up uh on our YouTube page, from a like an expectation standpoint of there's gonna be some kind of scheme change on the offensive line that they're gonna want some more athletic guys as opposed to just the big guys. It's it's an interesting return for Fred Johnson, but it is also like a a priced in level of play. You know that he's a competition. I know there's still guys out there on the market that would have made sense for them, but he's a known commodity in the Eagles building. And for that reason, I think it makes sense. Honestly, I'll be I'd be curious what you guys think, but I felt like Fred Johnson did play well enough to earn a starting opportunity somewhere else. So I think the fact that the Eagles were able to bring him back and make him again the first tackle off the bench. If you're the Eagles, even though I take your point, like his movement skills, his ability to kind of you know seal the edge on an outside zone run might not be one of his strong suits. He's still again, probably better than what you'd expect from most backup tackles. How do you feel about a Fred Johnson? I'm a big fan of big Fred. I think like when you talk about guys that are just beloved in the locker room, you just see it when Jordan Mailada got the call or you know heard that Fred Johnson's coming back, he was super hype. And I think that continuity in the offensive line is huge because Jeff Stoutlin and he's gone. So you would love to just have some continuity of all the players, Lane Johnson coming back, Land Dickerson. It was questions is he gonna retire? He's coming back. Got Cam Jergins, Jordan Mailada, and Big Fred. I mean, in 2024, he started six games. And a big part of that was Jordan Maylada on IR. Yeah. And then in 2025, Lane Johnson, he's missed a bunch of time, and then Fred started eight games there. And I I felt they did a pretty good job in place for a Hall of Fame on both sides, which is on both sides thing as as the swing guy for sure. And last thing, over the past two seasons, he has over a thousand snaps with the Eagles. So he has a bunch of experience. You can rely on him. You know, in a big game, uh, he's gonna deliver, in my opinion. I look at that Rams game when Matt Pryor was in for a s a couple of snaps. Yes. And the Eagles were struggling, struggling to get a first down. Like it was like pulling hair just to get a first down. That's right. They put in Fred Johnson and immediately the offense just gets better. So he's a guy. I'm I'm I'm a big fan. Yeah, and he's done it against some some of the top edge rushers too. Fair point. Obviously Trey Hendrickson in twenty twenty four against the Bengals is the big one. But I mean uh just off the top of my head, like Aiden Hutchinson, I feel like he was uh I feel like Aiden Hutchinson was in that game uh for against the Lions. So he's had some high level competition as well and he's he's managed himself quite well. He is also uh one of the guys who like talks up Stout's influence on him more than almost anybody else. Like he was sort of lost to the wind as a NFL journeyman. But he's still I mean he's only twenty nine years old. I am surprised that he he didn't So you do this. Like he's he he turns twenty nine in June. Yeah, that's he's twenty nine years old. Accuracy's sake, I think we've covered that extensively now, but just wanted to note turns twenty nine in June. We're talking about the 2026 season. He's a twenty nine year old. Okay, that's fair. Yeah. That's what we're talking about. Factually. As a football player, he's a twenty nine year old. I see, I see, I see. But I also think that last offseason was instructive here too. Yeah. It will be interesting to see if this if this trend continues, right? Because I think that some of it with Fred Johnson is the fact that he is part of the Jeff Stoutland ecosystem. You know, I think that there is a healthy skepticism with players that have excelled under Jeff Stoutland not necessarily translating to other other systems. It'll be interesting to see if that's an Eagles thing or if that's a Jeff Salon thing uh over the next couple of years. So does the return of Fred Johnson and EJ change the way you feel about how the Eagles may ad address the position in the draft. Yeah I'm glad you asked. It doesn't change anything for me in terms of how they should approach the draft. You know, Fred Johnson's on a one-year contract. I think you feel good about the fact that now you don't need to force drafting a tackle prospect in the first round if you don't feel like the board falls that way for you. But I think the tackle that you're drafting in the first round of the draft, that's succession planning more than it is trying to make sure you have a ready-made prospect. So I think it was good because it uh it it uh allows them some more flexibility, but yeah, I would be surprised if this changes the draft board for them. It's uh as far as the offensive lineman they're evaluating. MJ, what are your what are your early expectations for position wise what the Eagles will do in the draft? Really, I'm looking at offensive line. I think you have to go offense in the first round and the second round, and you're looking at offensive line like a bunch of guys were banged up light last season. And so you gotta get younger. I'm looking for the guy to be Lane Johnson's new successor. Yeah. I'm a big fan of Kaden Proctor. Y'all talked about that athleticism. He is a freak athlete. I mean, it's the reason why Alabama had him, you know, catching passes out the backfield. I mean, he's he's a freaking nature. And so if you have a situation where maybe you draft a tackle that can also play guard, and if Land Dixon's maybe banged up or you want more from Tyler Steen, and you can have that rookie in there and then maybe a year or two when Lane you know hangs it up, then you have you know his six six succession plan. So I like that. Absolutely all right. So Fred Johnson is back, a familiar face, and now we have a new face joining the Eagles. EJ, what was the other sign of the Eagles make? Yeah, so the Eagles also signed Elijah Moore, uh former second round pick, wide receiver. Uh it was out of old miss, has bounced around the NFL a little bit, started with the Jets, uh was like a high volume guy for the Cleveland Browns for a couple of years, but spent last year primarily or partly, partially with the Buffalo Bills, finished the year on the Denver Broncos practice squad. So uh there's definitely some interesting connections with this one. Uh Elijah Moore is very close with AJ Brown. Um AJ Brown has been very open about his struggles with mental health. And Elijah Moore is a main character in that story, someone who really helped him through that difficult time. And on the flip side, like AJ was there when Elijah Moore got drafted, AJ was in tears when Elijah Moore got drafted. This is his former roommate at Ole Miss, so there's a strong connection there. Um, I would probably caution against viewing the signing as like an AJ Brown only thing. I don't think this is only about AJ Brown. You look like you disagree. I think the player is also an intriguing one. Uh I think you know, him and Hollywood Brown are each the types of players that, you know, the jet motion stuff, the horizontal stretch stuff, they're good fits for that. I think theoretically they should be good fits for the vertical stretch stuff too. You'd like to think of them as field stretchers. They haven't quite been that in their career, but I do think you're kind of seeing a vision for what that third receiver wants, what should look like in a Sean Mannion offense. All right, here is me pouring cold water on division of the pla yer. He was with the Bills last year. Yeah. A team that desperately needed wide receiver help and they cut him. Goes on the Broncos practice squad and couldn't couldn't get on the field. Sure. Of the sixty-six wide receivers in the NFL who have run fifteen hundred routes since twenty twenty one when Elijah Moore entered the league, sixty-six. AJ Brown's number two in yards per route run. Devonta's nineteen. Dead last at 66th is Jahan Dotson. But 60th is Elijah Moore. And he's run more routes than anybody below him. If you if you do 2,000 routes, Elijah Moore is dead last. Wide receiver is a position where we sort of know who a guy is, and if you want to make excuses for okay, he had Zach Wilson throwing to him and say, I mean you're using last year as the barometer. But last year is is a blip in that argument. Uh uh that's a five, six year sample, a five-year sample size when he has not been productive. Last year he had Josh Allen and couldn't be productive. So I think the expectations here for what Elijah Moore will bring to the team need to be pretty low. And that's why I think this signing is way more fascinating because of the AJ Brown connection. And to me, I actually do read this as it makes me think it's more likely that AJ Brown will be back. How many turkeys are you increasing on AJ Brown being back based off of Elijah Moore signing? I think that's a good thing. I think it's a twenty turkey swing. Oh, you're kidding. You're joking. I to me, this signing is about AJ Bro wn. I I think 2 tur0keys. So you were at what like 45 before that you the 45% chance miles turkeys is uh you know our translation. Yeah. So you were probably at 45 before you're at 65 because they signed Elijah Moore. Yes. I think that is an overreaction, to say the least. I it certainly doesn't hurt that they signed the thing. He loves a guy. He loves a wide receiver who was drafted high. And he's been productive. You know, I use Terrace Marshall and John Well I mean he's been more productive than the types of receivers they usually sign. Like Terrace Marshall and John Ross were the examples that came to mind when they signed him. But he's been more productive than those guys. He has caught forty, fifty passes in the NFL. I know you will say it's because he was a high volume guy in Cleveland. That's fair. But I think like it's you can overthink this. They're taking a flyer on a guy who had draft pedigree, who was drafted by somebody who works in the front office. It's the type of player that they always add for training camp. I don't think that this is oh man, like this means AJ Stang. I think that that's an overreaction. It's interesting because I see your point where on the field do you expect much from Elijah Moore, right? But it's like, all right, but why are you bringing this guy? It's gotta be for AJ. I think that's guys out there like Elijah Moore. Yeah. I think to choose specifically him I. I think do read it as an AJ thing. A hundred percent I think how he was looking in. No, I I'm sure that the connection to AJ was part of the equation. Like I said, it doesn't hurt. Like if y you know, I was probably at I mean, I was higher than you on him staying anyway. I was like at fifty five that he stays. Maybe I'm at fifty-eight right now. Like a three percent ch swing. Twenty percent? I think you're just doing this for fun. I'm not twenty percent is a huge swing for assigning. Like the guy could get cut in training camp. And then it's I think he probably will be. And then what happens? Do you swing 20 turkeys the other way? No, but then does it how does it make a difference? Because it's it it is indicative of the team being on the same page with A J. I don't think that I don't think maybe you're a good reporter, so you might know something. But outside of that, I think I think you can overreact and you can you could read too far into this type of sig ning. Okay. I think so. Alright. Like I said, you're a good reporter. You talk to people. So I'll leave I'll leave space for that. It's not just the I'm also I've followed the team for a long time. I think you can read into these things. Yeah, I just twenty turkeys. It's I don't I'm not disagreeing that it might change the AJ Brown situation slightly, having not only one I mean it's one of Now, MJ, I think fair to say um AJ's history of working with guys who are his best friends has not always meant that it was gonna be kumbaya. Yeah, as a reset. So you look at him and hurts. traveling draft party is one every year. Like he just likes the listen, I that that what better event to be at than a than a draft party of a guy like seeing his entire life dream come true. So I like I I kinda respect that. I will say like the college roommate thing that's real. I mean, I have some college roommates that we're still super tight to the to this day. Yeah. Same. But it's also what does AJ value? Does he value you know getting high percentage of targets and you know being in a pass happy offense or do you want to be with his homeboy and it's like he is gonna value the being in like an offense that's more pass happy that can get him the Amon Ross, St. Brown type of numbers, the Jamar Chase, all of that. I think that's definitely top of mind. But I 100% agree that Howie Roseman made this move thinking if there is a chance, I can just see what this looks like with AJ and Sean Manning. Because I know Sean Manning, he gotta be thinking to himself, I at least want to try. I at least want to see what this looks like. And on paper, you look at the wide receiver, you know, room you got AJ right now Devontae uh then you got Elijah Moore and uh the the other brother that they got uh Holler Brown yeah Darius Cooper as well like you know, No, now you're speaking my language. I mean, come on. I'm a good I like Darius Cooper. He was cooking during training camp. Now you got he got a battle with Elijah Moore and those boys. So yeah. It's multiple layers too. The last thing I would say is like the only again, because I think it changes a little bit, but 20% is what we are arguing about here. AJ has friends on the team already. Like he's close with Devontae Smith, he's close with Cooper DeGene, he was close with Reed Blankenship. There are a lot of people in that that locker room he's already close with. He was still willing to and happy to be traded a week ago. I don't think like I think Elijah Moore helps. I don't think it hurts. But like I don't think AJ woke up this morning to use your your time I don't think AJ woke up this morning and is like, All right, I'm staying put. We're running this thing back because they got Elijah Moore. No, I think that's I I think that's right. I think you your suggestion that this might have been a calculated move from Howie, I agree with that. I do. I just don't think it's a twenty percent. Yeah, well yeah, yeah. I'm not saying they didn't tell AJ they were signing Elijah Moore and then he finds out they're signing Elijah Moore and he's like, Oh yeah, now I want to stay. I'm saying I would I would imagine that this this is the result of a conversation with AJ Moore or AJ Brown. Yeah, but if you're Elijah Moore and you call AJ Brown, it's not like he probably had tons of options. If he calls AJ and is like, are you staying? I don't think AJ staying is like if AJ says no, there's still a chance they're gonna trade me. You think Elijah Moore's like, All right, I'm not coming to Philadelphia then it's probably a win-win for him. I'm saying I don't think the Eagles sign Elijah Moore if they aren't trying to mollify AJ to some degree. Okay. We have found the common ground because I would agree with that. I think the Eagles would love to keep AJ Brown. And I think it is more likely that he stays at this point. Welcome to the right side of the fifty percent target. Yeah, you're still lower than me now that I got my 20 turns. Yeah, now you are higher than me. I mean, but that's a big swing, man. All right. Back on the PHOY Eagles podcast, Bo Wolf, EJ Smith, and MJ of Real Talk with MJ is with us today. MJ, you had a great ide a. This was this this is is all all you so let's give the the credit where it is due. The three players who we think are the most under pressure in the 2026 season, and let's do this through the prism of the Wawa Big Deal on a Wawa Wednesday. Should we do this as a as a draft, DJ? I like the idea of a draft. You know, it's always fun to play games. And do you agree that as the hosts, the guests should go first? Yeah, I agree. I think MJ deserves the first pick.. We should clear it out We should ISO for MJ here. All right, MJ. Which Eagle do you think is under the most pressure in 2026? See, there's a bunch of guys you can go. But I think for the first one . The quarterback is the most important position. You gotta go, Jalen Hurts. And it does hurt me a little bit because I feel like he always has to prove something every year. It's always well, what's next? Well, you got a great season 2022. You went to the Super Bowl, but you didn't win it. So you didn't get the job done. Then you win it. And it's like, well, you only had, you know, 2900 some passing yards. You gotta have a great season, you know, passing wise. And now it's well, last season, the offense definitely had trouble moving from like their own 20-yard line to the uh opponent's red zone, new O.C who's super inexperienced, but end of the day the quarterback gets most of the credit, most of the blame. So hurts, he definitely has to have uh a comeback year, a monster year. I I think he will. Yeah, I think that the money side of it is also something that uh, you know, really kind of I guess in informs how much is at stake for Jalen next season. You know, he's at fifty one million dollars annual right now. Dak Prescott's at sixty million. That number just keeps going up and up. And you know, I know that there's going to be some talk, some speculation about whether or not Jalen will, you know, re I guess go back to the negotiating table this offseason. By next offseason, I would expect him to be at back at that negotiating table and his play's gonna be a big uh you know, a big determining factor on whether or not he's resetting that quarterback market or honestly if the Eagles are starting to get at an impasse with him, uh, when it comes to that number. So it there's a lot at stake. I always like, you know, I'm I'm always thinking about the money side of things when we do these exercises and you know, I think he does have about as much at stake as almost anybody on the roster because of that. I think that's right. I mean it's it's it's probably the correct first pick. And I think you're also right, EJ, that next offseason feels like the decision point, they will either extend him or frankly consider trading him. And that's that's only in a very in a very downside, which which I don't expect. But this does feel like the season that they have set up to be able to answer that question internally because they're bringing if AJ Brown is back, they're bringing back the same group of characters, right? They're banking on this offense getting better because of coaching, not because of an infusion of talent. Right? The offensive line is back. They bring back Dallas Goddard. Even guys like you know, Fred Johnson are back. It's kind of like the last ride with this group. So let's see if a new scheme is the answer here. With a bunch of quarterback whisperers on the coaching staff too. Right. And if if Jalen can do some of the things that he has been criticized for not doing, like throwing over the middle and stuff like that. But I also I would also say that I think that Jalen Hurts, if anybody we're gonna talk about, is probably the least affe affected by perceived press ure. I I a hundred cent agree. I think he's the perfect quarterback for Philly because he is so even killed. And some folks in media, they don't like it because they're like, all right, you just won the Super Bowl. Can we get some like yeah some like cheers and like you know be happy. Uh but I think that's great for this this city because if you ride off, you know, uh the the mountains and the valleys, then you know, you you might kinda end up like a Carson West type of situation, right? So I think that he has shown more times than not. And I think every time he's answered the bell that he's going to just frankly not be deterred and you know he's gonna show up in those big games. I think we should okay. No, no. I was just gonna say we should also talk about the upside, right? Which is something that I do think uh uh it affects Jalen Hurts, which is the the led the legacy of if he gets it right. Um, you know, the upside the when I think about the upside, I think about a second Super Bowl, which would be huge for him. And also uh even if it's not, if even if even if it doesn't end in a championship, how much he's talked about a home base, trying to find a system that he can call his own. And with the stats that the Eagles put together this offseason, I do think if he excels in this system, they have succession planning in place to be able to keep this system in house for years to come. So I think that that's also an important thing and something he has at stake. He's you know kind of ushering in the next wave of offensive football for this team. Let's take a step back here. Uh and I want to ask you, MJ, why why do you think that Jalen is so polarizing, both within the fan base and nation ally? It's really because when you look at him in big games.'s Th noere deny ing his talent. There's no denying what he's done. You can't, you know, say, well, he didn't throw that dagger to Devontae Smith in the Super Bowl. He didn't break the rushing record in multiple Super Bowls, but I think the issue is folks want that consistency game by game, the high passing yards and when you look at the box score and then you see maybe against the Panthers in 2024, you see a buck 10. You're like, all right, you have AJ, you have Smitty, and I get from somebody who maybe doesn't watch the Eagles as much or just is not a fan of the Eagles, and they see this guy keep winning. Oh, he's undefeated against Stafford. Oh, he beat Josh Allen and might have folks like me, you know, popping my chest and saying that. Uh, but he doesn't have like the stats maybe every game to you know just show how great he is. So I think the stats people want those like two fifty passing yards, two way the Dak Prescott type of type of numbers. Um so that's why, but I know it frustrates them when regardless of what the media says, regardless of what the fans say, the trolls, whatever, he continues to win and do it his own way. And as long as he keep winning and he doesn't really care how it looked, if you're a fan of the team, like you shouldn't care at all. And I think the Patriots, I always go back to them because in the postseason, Drake May wasn't very good. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. But the Patriots fans, they're not like, oh, well, Drake May isn't that. They're still saying he's that guy. He's an MVP and the defense was carrying. And it's kind of funny because when it's not somebody's team, now it's oh well he's getting carried, all this stuff. When it's your guy, now you have a different uh a different tune with this. So I I think all of those play it play in factor. Yeah, one thing you mentioned there that he does it his own way, I think is a big reason why there is such a uh I would call it a polarizing discourse around him where it feels like sometimes you can't say certain things because like you're gonna upset one side or the other at all times. And it's because you can't really like put him in a box. You know, there's he's not like he he's not a quarterback and he takes pride in like doing it his way. But because of that, he doesn't fit into the conventional molds we expect for different brackets of quarterbacks. He's not, you know, he doesn't have the prolific stats of a top five guy. He doesn't have he's got the but he's got the winning accolades that kind of separate him from, you know, maybe like the group that's top six to top twelve he's won more than most of those guys so you don't want to put him in with those guys either uh and you know we've talked about it before like as a player there are things that you have to kind of build your offense around you don't want to build it out of a bunch of middle field throws or you know timing and anticipation throws. But he's a high-level player. He he's a good he's a quarterback you can win a Super Bowl with. So because he doesn't fit in any of those buckets, it can be hard sometimes because you want to group him with somebody, he doesn't fit with any of those guys. If this was like the early nineteen nineties media landscape, do you think he would be thought of as you know like a top three quarterback based on the winning percentage and and all of that stuff? Like do you think it it's the it is is the evolution of the discour se? It's a good question. I think that people do like scheme agnostic quarterbacks a little bit more nowadays than they probably did twenty years ago. You know, I so for that reason, yes. And I think it is less defined about winning than it used to be. I mean, Justin Herbert is considered a top five quarterback. And like, you know, I'll be honest, I would probably put Justin Herbert either in the top five or on the fringes of the top five because of how talented he is. I think we probably overweight that. We'll weight that more than we used to. Do you think that his media personality is a factor? For sure. He doesn't play the game. Right. He doesn't he doesn't back channel. He doesn't try to get his argument out there uh at least not as prolifically as other quarterbacks and other camps do. And I think that especially in Philadelphia, I think that does affect him. And then how much do you think that his race is a part of it? I think it's definitely a part of it because it's it's hard to have these conversations, but like you know, it' s it's it is the type of thing where he some of the things that like you would say about him are true about like the timing and anticipation throws. Right. But he's clearly an elite processor. He's clearly, you know, a high level quarterback in the NFL. So you have to kind of parse those things and it does make the conversation difficult at times. Um because you you you have people in the camp saying he's not a good processor, saying you can't do these things who have bad faith and bad intentions. I think the you know there is there is a a long history of undervaluing the running ability of a quarterback and what that brings to the team, right? But when that dwindles like it did last year, then and it it puts more focus on just him in the pocket, then all of a sudden it becomes a a different conversation. Yeah. Yeah. I and I appreciate about Jalen that he has always embraced that part of his game. He says he calls himself a triple threat. Yeah. Someone who has you know who's as comfortable and happy running, throwing, beating teams with his mind. Obviously he didn't quite as much last year, but I don't think we ever truly got to the bottom of why that was. Do you have a theory on that, MJ? It's interesting because that 49ers game playoffs, like I expected her to say, all right. He kept being like, okay, this is the game. This is the game that never came. During the regular season, all the Russian numbers were down. I'm like, all right, maybe he's just saving himself for playoff time because there have been seasons where at the end of the season it's can concussion or ankle, whatever the case is, so he was a hundred percent healthy, uh at least close to a hundred percent as you could be. I I thought that played a role but, I think the scheme and not having as many QB draws, I think also him not wanting to put himself in harm's way if he knows all right, I don't know how far I can go, you know, with this coaching staff. And then my last point with it, it felt a little bit during the playoff game that he was just doing exactly what he was told vers us calling an audible and say, you know what? I'm just gonna put my Superman cape on and just do it myself. And in the past, he's done that. Uh, you know, when you kind of lose faith in the coaching staff, uh, from the outside point of view, you kind of look at it and be like, okay, maybe he was just like, all right, y'all But doesn't that go against everything we know about Jalen as a as the myth making of a guy who in the playoffs is gonna rise and all he cares about is winning. Don't you feel like you know he had he did have the ball with the chance to go lead a game winning drive at the end? I don't know. Yeah, no, I I think that's that's definitely a fair point and a fair criticism that I had of of Hers too. I'm like you are a phenomenal who always plays his best in the biggest games, I want you to deliver in that. I want that. And like you said earlier, with if he's not running as much, then there's gonna be more focus on his, you know, pocket uh presence and you know passing from the pocket. So uh hopefully he can not only improve as a pocket passer next season, but also still, you know, be that running quarterback that we fell in love with in twenty twenty. All right. Good conversation. We've gotten through one pick. That's I chuckled. That's making a big deal. Presented by Wawa. Let's get out of that. We'll take a quick break. Go out and try Pepsi Zero Sugar today. You deserve taste. You deserve Pepsi . Back on the PHOY Eagles podcast, Bo, EJ, and MJ. We have any results on E versus M. I don't think Lindsay did the poll. Which was thank you, Lindsay. Like, what are we doing? Well, put them together, you know you sp ell. Me . And you love that. Alright, AJ, you're up. Pick number two. Alright . Can I can I get pick number three? Let's do the snake draft. Let me have three and fo ur. I didn't volunteer to take two. I wasn't even gonna do a snake. I was just gonna go one, two, three, four, two, three. Okay. I'd rather have two bites at the apple. Well I would rather keep MJ involved in the conversation instead of having him out for five picks in a row. MJ can tell us what he thinks of our picks. Fine . I will save you. What do you mean say if I wanted the third pick? That's fine. Uh all right. I will go. Um if you wanna if you want to talk about money on the l ine, I'm going Nolan Smith. Okay. And I think we will see what the Eagles want to do. I'm I'm guessing that they will pick up his fifth-year option. Um but right now they don't have that ace guy. And if Nolan Smith is the guy who we saw at the end of the 2024 seas on, they don't need another ace guy. He can be that guy. But he's got to prove he can play at that level and he's got to prove he can stay healthy, which he has not been able to do, and I think was a reasonable concern about him coming in because of the size he plays with and the violence that he plays with. I still I I am higher on Jalex Hunt than Nolan Smith. I don't know how you feel about that, MJ. Um but if Nolan Smith is the guy who he was two years ago, then all of a sudden we don't have to worry about, you know, how he trolling for uh you know using a third round pick on another guy. I compare this off season for Nolan Smith to what Jordan Davis went through last season to where it's okay, you got some of your buddies getting paid all this. Yes, they're all pros cool. But like what are you gonna do? You're a first round guy, we expect you to play like like a first round pick. And so similar to Jordan Davis, I think like you're looking at Nolan Smith, as you know, some fans and some people like, all right, like we need more from him. Some folks are saying, hey, he was injured. Like just you saw what he did in the playoffs 2024, broke a franchise record in sacks, like in a postseason, like like this guy, he has all the the all the tools. But like you said, I J-Lex Hunt has been better. And he's a third-round guy. And you ultimately you want Nolan to be the ace. You don't want to have to just trade for uh Jonathan Grenard or try to trade for Mass Crosby or these guys. You really want to keep those assets and have Nolan as your main guy, but I I think this is the season for him and if he can you know just stay healthy and like you said, the way that he plays, it has it'll cause him to have injuries and and be out, but if he's able to stay healthy this year, he could be in for a huge payday just like you know Jordan Davis got. I'll give you another comparison. Jalen Phillips. I mean he could especially because the injury history is part of the equation for both guys. Obviously he's a little bit further away from a payday, but you just saw what Jalen Phillips was able to do with, you know, an an opportunistic season. So I I definitely think he's got a lot of finances on the stage. Do you think the Eagles interest in retaining Jalen Phillips and potentially trading for Jonathan Gernard is instructive in telling us how they feel about Nolan Smith? comes up there too because especially it's like a big part of the way that he plays you know it's it's uh it his play personality is part of it so it's it's like you hate that for him because you know you I know Eagles fans love to see him play with that level of intensity, but it has been hard for him to stay on the field. Yeah, I think it's fair. I mean, if they re-sign Jalen Phillips, I think it would have been fair to wonder if they would be open to trading Nolan Smith. Uh so i you know if they do trade for a Jonathan Gernard, I do wonder how that affects him as well. All right, EJ, give us uh pick number three, the first of your two. Okay. So the way I went actually wasn't finances for once, you know, a little bit of personal growth. Okay. Thinking about the success of this this next year's Eagles team. And it's hard to envision a scenario where the Eagles make, you know, real progress and are able to make the run that they want to r make make if they don't get the interior offensive line right in this offseason, uh health wise, first and foremost. So to me, Cam Jergens comes to mind as one of the players under the most pressure. If you told me that Cam Jergens was his 2024 self, I'd feel a lot better about the Eagles prospects of again being the team that they want to be. If you told me that he looks like he did last year, the question that starts to come to mind for me is how long, how much leash does he have to play, to struggle with injuries and play at a level that's much below what we've seen him play in the past. And, you know, again, we've talked about on the show, there are people in that building very high on Drew Kendall. Uh I don't think he's a week one starter. I think he can have a great training camp and he'll be uh you know game day backup. If he's struggle if Cam Durgen's struggling in week eight, week nine, it does feel like more of a possibility that Cam Dergens could lose his could lose his job to somebody like Drew Kendall. What do you think about that? I'm looking at Cam Dergens. You gotta step up because you were a pro bowler last season and that's right. Hey, congratulations, you know, congrats on being a pro bowler. We've seen the the lowlights. We saw the lowlights and you know Cam Jurgens, he was phenomenal in 2024 and you know that's why he got paid. But you know, you definitely want him to return back to that 2024 form. Some could say it's just because of injuries, uh, but if if he can get healthy, uh Land Dickerson as well. Like, like that's how this run game returns back to what we know it can be for Saquon and you know Tank Bigsby and even Jalen as a runner, like so many holding calls where Jalen would run for 10, 15 yards. Yeah, they get pulled back, and then now you're in second and long, you're in third and long, and now you got three and out. So all that playing a part, I think, in order for the Eagles to have a successful season, Cam Jurgens, he has to get has to play better. MJ, I'm sure you're you're a young gu y. You probably don't you'd probably don't need to go to Columbia for any stem cell stuff, right? Yeah, yeah. I' goodm. good You're now, yeah. Body's feeling good. What about you, EJ? Uh I'm I'm I'm good. I'm good. Yeah, I I I got the one knee, you know, it acts up when it rains, but you know, it's all good. It's all good. Is it really when it rains? Uh yeah, no, it'll swallow up on me. Oh inter, esting. Yeah. Um all right. I mean I'm not like playing pick up basketball every day of the week like I used to, but you know, it's those concrete courts in college. Playing on them concrete courts really messed my knees up. Uh now I really sound old. That's okay. Uh yeah, I think I think Jergens is a very good pick. I think there's a lot of a lot of pressure on him and then we'll see what they do in the off season. I'm up again. Now this is a risky pick because it could all be a moot point in an honestly in the next week, in the next month. But I feel like Jalen Carter belongs somewhere on this list. Okay. Um, in the just in the po for the possibility that he might not get this extension done going into next season. And if he does play, you know, with without that extension next year, there's a lot of money on the table for him if he has a big season. You know, I think all of the conversations we had last summer were not about Jalen Carter resetting the defensive tackle market. It was about Jalen Carter resetting like the non-quarterback market. Yeah. Um I think that's a lofty goal, but I don't think it's totally off the table if he had, you know, a it's weird to call it a breakout season, but a breakout season in the sense that right now I think he's viewed as one of the best young defensive tackles in the NFL. If he he has the potential to be one of the most productive pass rushers in the NFL, I think he does that. This is the last year that he gets credit for being young. Yeah. Yeah. And that's what I mean. Like I think it's funny. Like you talk to guys in the Eagles locker room, you just see the like the reverence they have for Jalen Carter and they uh I think there's an understanding of all the players in in that locker room, there's some really talented guys. He is at the top of the list in terms of talent and he has the the rare ability to completely turn a game on its head. Um in a way that Taquan Barkley, AJ Brown, like there are a few guys who have that, but Jalen Carter could make himself a lot of money with an emphatic season, especially and I don't I don't think it's likely, but especially if he went into next year betting on himself. Yes. And I think about that Rams game in the playoffs, the divisional round, talk about a game record. Talk about a guy that saved the seasons. Matthew Staff was about to throw a touchdown and it was Jalen Carr that saved the day. And it's funny how these conversations drastically turn after one year because last season it was no one's getting paid. Yep. Jalen Carr is getting paid. And I still believe Jalen Carr is gonna get his extension, but now it's like okay, kind of like a down year for both cause of injuries and stuff. Uh, are they able to bounce back? But when you have Jordan Davis playing the way he played in 2025, and then you have a healthy Jalen Carter, a motivated Jalen Carter, uh, you know, if they have Jalen Carter bet on himself , yes, you might pay more money, but also you're gonna have a highly, highly motivated Jalen Carter. That's that is like a aspect of it that I don't think we should just overlook. Like just him having to prove something this season versus like already getting the bag. But if you have both of those guys in the interior, you don't need as much from the edge rushers than that we did, you know, last season. Do you think there's any chance that how we let's Carter go into the season without an extension? I'd be surprised. There's some chance, obviously. Yeah, I think I think they'd like to get a deal done, and I think they will. But it's a big number, and it's not as straightforward uh as a it's not a straightforward decision as usually it would be for the Eagles. Usually player like Jalen Carter, the Eagles b get that extension done the first day they can because the price only goes up. I think the fact that it's taken a little bit longer speaks to this being a little bit more of a complicated deal to get done. So it wouldn't shock me, but at this point I do think they probably get it done before training camp. All right. Let's take our last break here on the PHLI Eagles podcast. We are four ninths of the way through the draft will give you their last five picks on the other side. Jalen Hurts returning punts. What about Devontae Smith playing nose ta ckle? Of course not. Not to say like I was I wasn't slob. You guys should know me well enough to know. I keep a tidy My kids hate that. Yeah, but frankly, I'm the one cleaning up for the cleaning lady. So are you straightening up or are you clean ing? Oh Oh I'm yeah, I'm I'm like putting toys away. Yeah, we would like clean. It'd be like you need to clean your bathroom. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's tough. Yeah, my mom did not play that. She was like, You your room better be cleaned up. I don't want no clothes, you know, on the floor, make a dead game. Yeah, it's like one thing if it's like gross. Yes, totally. Not saying it should you should leave it gross. It's like it's like putting clutter together. I guess that's probably what that we don't have a cleaning lady or cleaning peop cleaning people. Um but if we did We're a cleaning robot. Yeah, right. Well definitely we don't have a cleaning robot either. Um I guess if we did it would be like a good ritual to straighten up the house every week. Kinda like forces you to do it. I guess that makes sense. As an adult, now that I look back at it. Uh speaking of feeling at home, we gotta we gotta welcome to the roster, the Philly show, which debut today at noon. Fran's going to be doing some guys, and Connor Barwin's going to be there to meet and greet. All uh proceeds going to the Make the World Better Foundation. So join us for that. All right. I'm up. Pick number five. I'll be quick here because this is someone that we've already discussed quite a bit this week, EJ. Um, and that is the way that they have not filled the safety position without Reed Blankenship. I think there's a lot of pressure on Drew McCuba to be a guy as a second year, second round pick at safety. And I thought he was pretty good last year, but not good enough to be the best safety on the best defense in football, which is I think what they are hoping he can be next year. So let's see if he can put that together. Yep. Yeah he's a he's a playmaker who'll take risk and you know with that it might come like the Buccaneers again. You take a risk and you got a Meko Buka that go, you know, for like a 60-70ard-y touchdown, right? Marcus Epps, he's more like a safer bet. He's he's not gonna go for those risky, you know, type of moves. Uh but I like Marcus Epps a lot because it's like you really never hear about him on the broadcast and honestly if if if you're not being talking about I don't want to hear about you so you know but Drew McCuby he's a playmaker for su re. Yeah I agree. I I think I what was my analogy? I think Marcus Epps is like a singles hitter, singles and doubles, and then Drew McCuba's a home run hitter. So you it'd be good for the it's a decent pairing. Uh but yeah, it's they're making a big bet on Drew McCuba taking them the next step. All right, MJ, you get two picks. Give us your first one. Cool. I gotta go with Jahad Campbell. Yeah, good one. That's a great one. You think about this a second year guy that you know didn't play as much. Yes, he started and then N'Cobe came in, you know, took his spot. Uh, but you don't really think a guy was like in his second year, you have a all pro next to him, you know, has pressure. But let's be honest, N'Kobe Dean was beloved in Philly. Yeah. Like one of my favorite players to cover to watch and his violence and being like one of the best blitzing linebackers. And when he came to the team, the run game drastically improved. So now he goes to the the Raiders and all of us like man all these free agents going away and all that stuff. The Philadelphia Georgia Bulldogs will now it's gonna be pressure on jihad campbell to replicate what Nakoby Dean did. And I think first game of jihad Campbell's uh career, like his pass breakup on Dak Prescott to the middle of the field. I was like, was that Drew McCooper or something? And that's like his first game as a rookie, uh, is fantastic. So I think his instincts are there. Uh, you know, get his body right. I think uh defending the run is something he has to improve on, but he has all the skills, but I think there will be pressure on him to at the very least replicate what Nakoby did. Um, but when jihad got his chances, even that Bill's game, like uh, you know, he made the most of it. So I'm I'm I have I have high expectations. I I feel like he will deliver. But I think you I think you are right that you know if there is if there is any little comeback, people are gonna be talking about ah he should have he they should have just brought back Nicobe Dean, right? Yeah. Yeah. And the upside is the best linebacking core in the NFL. Yeah. They have the physical capability to be that. And they're already basically halfway there with Zach Mong. Right. I think it's a very good pick. Who's your who's your last one? My last one, Saquon Barkley. I did not have Saquon on my list. Two six. That's interesting. And I'll be fair, like a bunch of his production is tied to the offensive lines, tied to Cam Jurgens, Land Dickerson, you know, Tyler Steen, uh, and the all but ultimately he's the highest paid running back in footb all. The casual fans not looking at how great of a run block or is Tyler Steen compared to Mikai Beckner or something. You're looking at okay, Saquon, you had two K rushing yards. It went down to like 11, 1200. We need to see you, you know, go back to the I don't nobody's expecting, I think, 2K, but 1500, 1600, like you know, he was given that you know big payday after the Super Bowl, rightfully so. Uh, but I think if you start to see games where you know Tank Bigsby is averaging what five to seven yards per carry, and Saquon is averaging like three, and be like, all right, Saquon, like you got paid. Do you still have that hunger that you had when you left the Giants? So I think it's some pressure they have to do. Do we still see those big plays, right? Like if if those don't come back again, then it's like, man, maybe his maybe his legs really are gone. Yeah, and he's a legacy driven guy, just like Jalen. He will care about the discourse around him in the season that he has. So I think that's a good p Okay. That's a good one. All right, nice job. Yeah. My last one. I'm on the fence between two, but I'm I'm gonna go with Rek Willen. Put the pressure on themselves more than Rek Woolen by by you know uh way of the contract that he signed. A one year prove a deal. Okay, go out and prove it when you're playing opposite Queenon Mitchell and with Cooper DeGene, you know you're gonna get the ball a lot thrown at you. And you make some plays. And there's even a chance with Vic Fangio that like he yanks you at some point. So the downside is there, and the upside is he enters the market very young still and gets one of the highest-paid contracts for a cornerback in the NFL. So I think uh a huge swing for Rick Willen and a lot of pressure on him. Yeah, yeah, I completely agree. Okay. All right, I got two. Okay. My first pick's gonna be Jake Elliott. Hold on, you only get one pick. Wait, I thought I got two. We're doing three each. I'm a co-host. I get to make up the rules too. Uh yeah, I think Jake Elliott, obviously he's not in short-term pressure. You know, he's uh his contract is guaranteed. It's not like he's gonna get cut mid season, but could he get bench? Could he get moved aside mid season for a younger kicker? I think that would it would surprise me, but I I wouldn't discount it. And then moving forward, like you know, uh if he has another uh season where he struggles, what do the Eagles do long term at kicker?
