This is the PHOY Eagles Podcast presented by Ashley and Bet365, Bo Wolf, and EJ Smith. We're here in Phoenix. We're here for the owners' meetings. Figured we'd pop on by to our friends at PHNX and boy, what a beautiful setup they have. I was gonna say they they have a very nice setup and I appreciate them uh opening their doors for their sister station here, sister company. Yeah, I appreciate that. Very uh magnanimous of them. Yeah. Great hosts. Yeah. And the setup here is is is beautiful. I love it. Yeah, I mean I'm sure Eagles fans won't like, you know, love all the Phoenix sports memorabilia, but I mean what are they really gonna get upset about? You know, there's no you there's no diamondback stuff in the shot. That's not gonna you know, w Eagles fans gonna be worried about Khalia Copper? Come on. I mean yeah. Uh I wouldn't be so yeah I'm I'm I it's been it's been fun to see anot anherother variant of the PHI world. It's been it's been a good experience. All right. So this morning, early this morning, we talked to Nick Siriani, EJ, and you know what, we got up early. We got our seats at the table. We did. We were set for everybody. Yeah. I mean, let's not make this about other people. But we can celebrate the fact, you know, the the viewers of the show can know you got two dogged reporters who are gonna get there early, get their seats at the t So we will go about this the same way we did yesterday after talking to Howie Roseman. We'll sort of ping pong back and forth on the takes that we have from the the big takeaways from what Nick Siriani said. I will let you go first, EJ, but let's do it through the prism of the right people, presented by our friends at TrueMark Financial. The right people. Who are the right people for the Eagles, as far as you're concerned, with your first takeaway. I think Rek Willen is the right person for the job. I found it I found it very interesting what Nick Siriani had to say about Reek Willen's play personality. It's been a big topic of conversation. I think maybe even overstated a little bit about the fact that he has a tendency to be emotional on the field. He's drawn some personal foul penalties, some unsportsman-like conduct penalties, because of the fact that he can, you know, be emotional on the field. And I thought Nick Sirianni, uh, I think this is Nick Sirianni at his best. This is what we were kind of expecting. Yeah. That that Rick Willen was going to be a Siriani guy. Yeah, exactly. But I think that this is vice versa. You know, I think Eagles fans will have frustrations with some of the things that Nick Sirianni really harps on at the podium. And, you know, obviously he's a hot topic of conversation. But I think that this answer that he gave on Rick Woolen is really why his players love to play for him. And I again I do, I think it's him at his best. So he says, we're edgy as a football team. We like to show excitement. Football is fun. It's supposed to be fun. You can lose that sometimes in highly stressful situations. I want those guys to show their emotions. I want them to show their excitement. I want them to show their personalities within the rules of the game. That's my job. And he was just explaining that as you know, uh when after being asked about Reek Willen being that type of specifically about that, yes. And he made it clear: like that's a perfect fit for the Eagles. Uh, if I'm Reek Willen, I'd love to hear that. If I'm any player in the Nagles locker room, I'd love to hear my head coach say something like that. Now, it is also his job to make sure that those things don't pop up in in big moments. But you know what ri it reminds me of the way that Nick talked about and felt about CJ Gardner Johnson. You know, all of that play personality on the field. All we always heard that like Nick loved CJ GJ during the week in practice because he was always bringing that energy. You needed that sort of competitive fire in the doldrums of the season. I think the Eagles are kind of hoping that Rek Willen will bring a little bit of that as well. We'll see if the level of play is what the Eagles hope for. But but they are not afraid of of big personalities like that. Yeah, yeah. And I I think it makes sense. Um, you know, it's kind of uh it's been interesting to hear Howie Roseman and Nick Siriani talk about Reek Woolen, the opportunity that they saw in signing him, um, while also acknowledging Howie more so than Nick the the steps that requell and still has left to take to really make sure that they they get maximum value out of him uh for the season that they have him. But no I think the way that they answered it I think is the the way that like you would want them to answer it. You know, how he's focused on getting the most value and Nick is looking at him as a player and a person and like that's a perfect fit for what we have uh in the building. Yeah, Nick was much more forceful in his excitement about Reek Willem than how he was yesterday. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Which again it makes sense. Yeah. Yeah. Now I also I I had a quick question for Mike McDonald about Rek Will and you know what's their explanation for why you guys let him go. Now McDonald pushed back a list. Like, you know, I wouldn't say we let him go. But I mean, M ike. Nobody, nobody has been a bigger Mike McDonald defender than than me. I was on I was on the Mike McDonald train before anybody. I mean John. Why? Because he was Mike McDonald's roommate. John Gnode? Yeah, you didn't? No. Eagles PR guy, John Gnode, shout out to John. Yeah, he was Mike McDonald's roommate at Pitt. Really? Yeah. I didn't know that. So you're the second biggest defender. All right. W ell we get a good note on the podcast. I don't know if that's allowed. I'm sure it's allowed. Okay. Anyway, you know, they had plenty of cap space. They chose to s bring back Josh Job instead of Rayquill, and he just McDonald said he just got, you know, he was too expensive for us. Who are we kidding? Yeah, it's it was a it's it's an it's a strange objection. I mean I'm an I'm an out of towner on that one. I don't I don't I don't really mind. I I mind a little bit on your behalf. I'm like I was a little bit like they did let him they chose Josh Job over him. That's fine. Own it. Yeah. You know he said the Eagles are getting a hell of a player. Yes. Reek Willen. There you go. The right people. Presented by TrueMark Financial. Uh I will give you my next takeaway here, EJ. And I I do think this was early in the press conference. Yeah. First question. His reaction to you know, the the idea proposed by Lane Johnson that Jeff Stoutland's gonna be around the building to s in in some capacity . I don't know that Nick Siriani could have possibly poured more cold water on that. than he did Yeah, so and uh go ahead. The quote was obviously we moved on with our staff and really enjoying working with these guys. Obviously love the guys that are no longer part of our staff and always will have a relationship with those guys with everything they've they've done for our football team. But right now we are focused on the upcoming year with that sta ff. Yeah. I'm not gonna, you know, read too much between the lines here, but it's pretty clear. Yeah. In conjunction with the way that Nick talked about him when we last spoke to Nick, actually right before the the combine, and also just the reporting that is out there. Yeah. Nick and Jeff Statlin are not best buds. Sure. And yeah, I think I think they mean if they were Jeff Salon would still be on the side. I think their relationship, you know, had a had a hate a bit of a tumultuousness to it. And he's it's not like Stout's going to be in meetings this year. I I wouldn't be surprised if he comes for training camp for a day or something like that. But even that, it's probably not ev something like that is probably not even fair to Chris Cooper, right? Because if Stout shows up, everybody's gonna be wanting to talk to Stout and and you know, they're gonna be comparing him to Chris Cooper. I think it is probably best for both parties that Stout is not really super involved anymore. Um but it was a it was an interesting bit of um deflection from Nick. Yeah. I mean, to be honest, the only thing that opened the door for this was Lane Johnson suggesting that Jeff Statlin might be. original reporting that you would have that I think I maybe even suggested it early. Yeah. But over time you learn more about what happened and the situation. And I think it became pretty clear that it wasn't going to be the case that Jeff Salon wasn't going to just be, you know, around in a lesser capacity, you know around the team. I think I I think that it's true that he will always be like a friend of the organization or admired by a lot of people in the organization. Howie Roseman's answer uh before the scouting combine, you know, he's he's not was a friend, is a friend, you know, and we'll miss him. Like I think that there it's clear that there's a lot of love for Jeff Satlin in the building. But yeah, this new coaching staff I think is moving on from a lot of the principles that Jeff Satlin implemented as a run game coordinator mostly, not as an offensive line coach or a talent developer. But yeah, I think as a result, you're not going to see him around the building. I would even be surprised if he was at training camp, you know. I mean, maybe, but yeah, I think I think I think that that chapter is probably closed. I think you're probably right. Yeah. I think down the line. Oh, absolutely. For sure. But this year, I think the I think the wound is too fresh. Yeah, I mean like twenty turkeys that he coaxes for the Eagles again at some point. Probably about right. Yeah, like I I don't think that it's it's a permanent thing. I think but this upcoming season, I'd be surprised if you saw Jeff Salon. Yeah, now I I would imagine that some of you have watched uh or listened to Stout's appearance on the Nick Foles podcast uh where I think he talked about this as well. But the other thing that that he said, which I thought was interesting was, and this is what you would expect, but he's thinking I'm a better coach now than I've ever been. Like this is the best version of me as a coach because all of my experiences are layered on uh and I've learned so much over the years. You know, that is that does not sound like a guy who is necessarily not interested in ever coaching again. Yeah, I'd I'd be surprised. Um, you know, again, the initial reporting, the initial word, maybe that was on the table, but yeah, I think as as as I've talked to more people about it, I think it's probably you know a temporary step away and then he will be back in coaching. Now let's stick with the staff while we're here because there's a lot of uh discussion about all the new faces that that Nick Siriani has. Yeah. And you know, he's spoken in the past about when he first got to Philadelphia. And there was that there was that you know, that time period where everybody on the on the staff was new and their families hadn't moved over yet and so th all they had to do was just spend time with each other and how how uh much of an impact that made on just like the camaraderie of the staff and and he thinks about that time with fondness. So I asked him like, you know, is that something that is that is happening again because there are so many new faces. And he this time around , it's like, well, I've still got my uh my family's here. So like I gotta go home. But like some of the guys get to have that time. Um and it was it was less about and I wonder if you think that this is this has anything to do with like the joy of the job not being quite so high for Nick and it becoming more of work and you know, having to sort of defend his record and it's all about the results, but it feels like this has been much more about business than necessarily, you know, everybody being sort of rah-rah together. It's a it's a good observation and it ties into something. I hope I'm not stepping on something you wanted to bring up later. Uh what he said about Jalen and the conversation that they had, the conversations that they've had about the system. Yeah, let's we'll save it? No, no, go ahead. I just think it it ties together in that it like in talking to people around the building, there is definitely a sense of like they needed a reset. They needed to like break off of the last 24 months and the emotional roller coaster of winning a Super Bowl, coming back on a truncated offseason, trying to repeat everybody. There's so many people who were banged up, so many people who had to go through surgeries and you know play through a lot of pain. And honestly, I think the coaching staff seemingly seemed to deal with burnout as well. And as a result, like Nick Siriani's answers on like Jalen Hurts's conversations with Nick about the the system that they're implementing, you know, the the kind of the mesh with Sean Mannion, it wasn't it was much more about like it's important that we give these guys some time away from us. And I my read on that is that there is a prioritization of like everyone needs a reset. Everyone probably needed some time to get away from it before they dive back in full full force. I think maybe that's a lesson they learned from 2025 is when you get a chance that you know to to lick look lick your wounds or you know unplug from it all, it means that you have a chance to then come back stronger and be able to kind of like go back to being 100% when you do reconvene. So I found that interesting because all you ever hear from Nick about Jalen and all you really ever hear from Nick or hear from others about Nick is that they are like 110%. They do everything it takes, but it does seem like they're taking like an intentional pause right now. Um, which is what I kind of that's kind of what my read was on what he was when he was talking about the coaching staff. It seems like maybe they all just needed to get away from it for a little bit. But do you think that that comes with like the the refresh, I agree, is important. And I think they are they are trying to do that. Do you think that is then leading to putting so much pressure on the results like this is our only chance to to get this right or do you think that they are actually trying to start fresh from like a this is exciting like not that joy isn't is a necessity for them but it it it doesn't feel like Nick has that same yeah joie de vivre as a as a as a coach than than he used to Yeah, I I think he has changed significantly. I mean it's funny, you know, not to derail this conversation, but did you notice that Nick was wearing the same shirt this year that he's worn in years past for owners' meetings? The reason I noticed is because the first year he wore it, my group chat was like ablaze. Uh I can't curse, so I'll just say I'll I'll you know I'll pro I'll I'll clean it up. Uh they said that's an EJA shirt. Okay. Like, you know, I love a tight pattern polo, and he's worn that polo before. Okay. And it is funny because you know, to bring it back into the conversation we we're actually having here, uh, it kind of does like show like the evolution of Nick Siriani, like the shirt stays the same, but the man changes, right? Um and I do think he's changed significantly over the last I mean, really it feels like after that first Super Bow.l After that first Super Bowl, you know, Jalen talks about how much changed him. I think Nick changed a lot after that first Super Bowl as well. Um and I think in the last year. See, I think I think the change for Nick was twenty twenty-three. After the Browns game . No, that's twenty twenty. I think the change for Nick came after the twenty twenty-three collapse. I think that was sort of more about results. His first change definitely had a lot of two season though. I I I think you could see a shift in how uh how he was how he was kind of like I don't know the best way to put it. He I think you saw personality shift from him after the 22 season. And I agree. I think honestly, if I'm being totally real, like in his like confidence le vel, in like his probably a little bit of his um like innocence for the job. Okay. I think those two things. You think he became more confident in his own abilities. More confident and a little bit more guarded. And then after 2023, I agree. I think he was significantly more guarded. But I I think even in 2020 that 24 season, like you know, the the Browns game is I think is a real inflection point for Nick. I think ever since then he's been at least the public-facing version of him has been significantly different. I think that's right. Yeah. And it's understandable. That was, you know, as much as I understand the criticism that came after that Browns game when he's got his kids up at the podium. I do think, like from a human level, I don't even think I know from a human level that it's that must have been really difficult to go through, you know. Yeah, I actually I I think we you know we talked about it at the time. I thought the criticism of the kids up there was was silly. I thought that was totally fine. It was I thought the criticism should have w was fair about yelling at the fans afterwards. Sure. Yeah. Um but there's no doubt that that that changed too. Yeah. So I think we are seeing a different version of Nick. Um, you know, understandably so. But yeah, it it's interesting to like even just reflect on it here, like how he's changed yeah over the years and how we kind of got to where we are now where, you know, I think some fans will say like a 30 minute press conference with him, like he's very guarded. He doesn't he tries not to say very much. Uh well let's do a little let's do a little introspection here. Uh as a a as Philadelphia media whole, how much do you think like that color being sucked from his skin? That's not nice. You know what I mean? No, but like as someone who's got his legs on camera today, you can't be talking about people being up. You know what I mean? Like the the the full of lipeness that he had the first couple of years as a coach. Yeah. It's not is not quite there anymore. How much do you think we are responsible and the idea of just living in the Philadelphia, you know, uh broiler has has brought that on him? I would hope that we personally aren't responsible for that. I think Philly are a part of it, no doubt. Philly's media market is tough, but it's a reflection of the fan base. And the building. And I'm not but and I'm not saying that anybody is a villain in this story either. You know, I think it's just yeah, I would say that it's an intense environment. It it it changes you. Uh, you know, it's like I think I've heard people joke about like the the like Nick Siriani over a four-year period, like the president aging. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, I think there's something to that. It's a it's it is an intense environment for a lot of people. Yeah. I think it is also just the nature of being an NFL head coach. I think he handles it in a way that he handles it probably well relative to others. And he's, you know, it it's something that probably gets overlooked sometimes when we talk about some of the things that Nick, some of Nick's personality traits . Okay. You think that's fair? Yeah. Yeah. I do think he handles it reasonably well. I me an, I wish he was less guarded sometimes, but I understand why. I wish he would uh you we we were talking about this off air. I wish he would do more just talking ball. Yes. Um because you know he me he loves football so much. He loves coaching foot like he that he it is the thing that makes him so happy. I wish he would share a little bit more of that with us. Yes, I think he is very careful. I mean, to a like, you know, extreme degree about what he divulges about what the Eagles do schematically. Yeah. And I think you hear coaches like get really in the weeds about like pure progression reads versus you know half field reads, or you know, you you they they talk about like just like honestly for our for our audience, like just think about like the way that Fran talks about football. Like I know Nick Siriani can talk about football that way, but he he doesn't often do that at the podium. And I think it's just because of, you know, again, being guarded, trying not to give away very much. Okay. Makes sense. Time to take our first break here on the PHOY Eagles podcast. Reaction. Um we're gonna save the AJ Brown talk. I think there was another one that I think Eagles fans will be very interested to hear about. Okay. Uh Nick Siriani's comments about the safety position today really reaffirm what we talked about with Hallie Roseman's uh press conference where we did the takeaways last you know Sunday night. You can get that in your feed. Uh you know, after you finish watching this show, you can get that in your feed. You can watch that if you haven't already. Um, yeah, Nick Siriani on the safety position. There are guys on our roster that you're excited about and there are opportunities to add different pieces. The the off season is incomplete right now. There's so many more steps to go. You see how many times we've added guys. And really he was talking about adding guys late in the late in the process. Whether that's you know after the draft, whether that's you know right before week one. And yeah, I just I think it is very noteworthy that there wasn't a company line. Similarly, some of the other things that we'll talk about, especially with AJ, there could they could have come out with a company line. We have a lot of confidence in Marcus Epps. He's played really good football for this team. Uh, you know, he played good football for us down the stretch last season. We think that, you know, we we we feel confident that if if Marcus Epps is our starter, that we can succeed with that. It's much more like, listen, it's very interesting. Youn sho'tuld evaluate like honestly with Michael Carter. You know, I I know that there are people in that building who are bullish about Michael Carter. Uh you know, Nick wouldn't even say that he moved his moving to safety today. Um, which again, I think it's probably just Nick not wanting to give very much up. But yeah, they could have come out and thrown a like vote of confidence parade for somebody and they they have not. They've really harped on I think there's a lot of time. Oh I'm not saying listen, yeah. We are we are not done at the position. We're gonna we're gonna add guys potentially, but we also saw Marcus Epps really do a good job for us last year, and we know that if we had to line up week one, then he would do another he would do a good job, yeah, that. Yeah, and they haven't yeah, they they are neither of them is going with uh forward with that. So I think that is interesting. Yeah. I I me an what I said yesterday, I I just don't because now they're not they're not giving themselves an out. Yeah, they if that is how they go into week one. In my opinion, they can't draft like a safety on day three and be like, see we added we told you we were gonna add. I think that it has to be a safety. They can do whatever they want, but no, I mean that they're talking about it. Accountable to what they're saying right now, I don't think that a day three safety or an undrafted safety. Even like they draft a guy. I mean, if they draft a guy in the third round, I think that's like okay. That's they they think he's gonna start. But I wouldn't have guessed it. I hope they don't do that. So do you think it's a trade? A trade for a veteran? I don' t know. It's gotta be it's gotta be something. I think at this point, it has to be something. Like that is the the way that they framed this, it has they have to have a move at some point between now and week one. And it might be training camp. You know, we might go into training camp and watch Marcus Epps and Michael Carter compete in that first team spot opposite Andrew McCuba. Assuming Drew McCuba is ready for training camp. But yeah, I just do think the way that they've talked about the safety position is a little bit different than what I would have expected. I agree with that. Yeah. Um I don't know that I think it it means that they have to del iver Buddha Baker or whoever else. Yeah. But but it's interesting that they're not giving themselves like this could be our week one gro up. Right. Yeah. It just incomplete is the word they keep using when they talk about the safety position. So um yeah, I think that they're I don't know what it's gonna be. Maybe it will be Justin Simmons finally, but there's something. There's gotta be a move there. Is Justin Simmons even still playing? Come on. I mean, it's just it's I don't he's just like my favorite, like not an eagle, but feels like he would have been he would have played for the Eagles at some point given how how much Eagles fans have talked about him as a potential addition. Okay. Can I give you my silly take? Ple ase. Going back to the way that uh Nick talked about Jalen. Yeah. And like needing a break from each other. Okay . I'm gonna really editorialize here. Oh no. Okay. Let's do it. I think it says a lot about Nick and Jalen's relationship. He's like, you know, it's important that we get this break from each other too. That Nick has not yet read Jalen's book. I don't know if that's fair. I don't know if that's fair. I me an I mean I mean I asked it jokingly, like, have you read Joan's book? He's like, oh no, but you know, I but I saw it in the airport and like I had too much stuff to buy it to carry whatever you want to buy it to pat he I I he said he didn't buy it to put it into a suitcase. Like he had to do. But I do feel like I me an if I was your boss and you wrote a children's bo ok, I would don't you think I would go out of my way to read it and just be like, hey man, congrats on the book. Like uh my kids really enjoyed it, or something like that. Like, I don't know. That feels like a little bit Let me play devil' adsvocate very easy lift. Let me play devil's advocate. Like on the flip side, if you were my boss and I wrote a children's book, I would give you the children's book. It'd be in your office. I'd get it mailed to you. Especially if I do get it. That's interesting. That's a good point. Cuts both ways. Maybe this is on Jalen. I think I think it is like a fun observation. Maybe it's telling that Jalen didn't send a copy. Yeah, he didn't mean a copy. That's a good, that's a good, that's a good take. So I don't know. I think you could read too much into it on either side of it. Um, but you know, but I think it's I I I think it's an actual interest ing thing in just the nature of their relationshi p. Yeah, I mean if they were buddy bud dy, I think he would have read the book. I mean, I think it's pretty clear at this point that they have a good working relationship. I do I I would say their relationship is better than it has been in the world. Contrast this with the way that he talked about Jalen in the new offense. Like you know, the one thing I love about Jalen is he's gonna do whatever it takes to try to win a game, and you know, that gives us supreme confidence, of course. All of that stuff is is still there. Yeah, their relationship is better than it has been in the past. Um I think it's safe to say. And I think it's also safe to say I don't think a couple of years ago you could have told me that their relationship was like an issue for the team. I don't think it's an issue at this point. But to your point, it probably is a window into like , I don't know. Now like I'm gonna be messy. Who could have written a children's book on the Eagles like roster? Who you know like Nick would have had it day one. Katie Gwell. Yeah, maybe. Maybe Nick's just not a big children's book guy. Maybe that's not his thing. You know? I think that that's a that's a possibility . The comments are very funny. Um okay that's that's not nice. I kinda think it's a little something. Very apropos for the uh court gesture to say that. Yeah. I don't know. I don't like to read too much into that. But I I get what you're saying. I mean, he could've I if I were him, I would have just been like, yeah, I read it. Totally. Yeah. Could've he could've lied. But I'm glad he didn't lie. Yeah. Well, that probably means that he's being honest that he's gonna buy it on the way back. He probably saw it at the airport. He was like, Oh, cool. I'll get it when I it's also he I mean, he's so head down, it's possible he wasn't even aware. Yes. Okay. Yeah. All right, what do you got? All right. Um, do you want to do the AJ Brown of it all or do you want to save? Save AJ for the next segment. Okay. Uh Nick poo-pooed my uh suggestion that they are prioritizing adding former quarterbacks because they really want someone to see it through the quarterback's lens. Um I won't read the whole quote, but he said I don't look at it that way. Quarterbacks have a unique perspective of the game because of everything that it requires to play the position, but it goes back to adding good pieces and good coaches. So I think it's more of a it just so happened that they had a lot of former quarterbacks added to the staff. But I do think it is setting up, whether it's intentional or not, it's setting up a situation where there's really not like I don't want to say there's no excuses for Jalen Hurts. I mean, that's probably too strong of a statement, but I do think they have a scheme that they think he should be able to fit into well. You know, Nick talked about the play action pass game. Have you noticed that every time Nick talks about like the things that they're really pushing with this new system, like play action is at the forefront. Talks about that Vikings game. Yeah, yeah. How he had a perfect passer rating, and that was a play action heavy game. I think I think Nick Siriani is putting all pushing all of his chips in the middle of the table when it comes to the play action passing game with this team next year. You know, what Sean Manning's gonna implement, how you know, Chris Cooper's run game or you know, I guess uh Ryan Mahaffey's run game is going to fit with the play action game. I think that that is, I mean, it's priority number one from what we've heard from Nick Siriani. Um, and but I do think with as many former quarterbacks, people who can understand what it what it needs to look like through Jalen's lens, you know, through the quarterback's lens, I do think it's kind of setting up. I wouldn't say no excuses, but a situation where you would expect a quarterback to be able to succeed. Did he, after I left, say anything about the Andy Dalt on edition? Not too much. I brought him up in my question. And yeah, I think he it's more about like what who they are is like being able to see the big picture. Okay. Rather than you know adding players that are like, okay, you can understand what Jalen is seeing out there. And do we have any sense of what Gerard Johnson's job is? Yeah, Nick didn't really get into it. I think he kind of he kept it vague in the sense of like it was just an opportunity to add a good coach. Um which, you know, I take him at his word there. All right. There you go. Time for us to take another break. On the other side, we'll talk about AJ Brown, what Nick Siriani had to say, and the little bit of news that is potentially A.J. Brown potentially on the clock, and an interesting bit of news about some summer plans. Yeah, so I I would say these two things may be related. So let's start with the news. Uh the Eagles are gonna have joint practices in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Uh I don't need any practice, man. With the New England Patriots. Um, it's the second time they've been there in what the last three years. Um I wonder if you can suit up for both teams at once, man. Is that legal out here? I don't I'm actually not sure. But I'm gonna check . Um so yeah, I it will be I I I put it at 95 turkeys that AJ Brown is there. Yeah, that's pretty good. I'm pretty confident that AJ Brown will be at those joint practices. Now what color he will beware. What if we treat him to the pets and then we trade for him back, dude? That would be uh Howie Potter right there. As our uh as shout out to Anthony our uh shout out to Cuz with that one. Um Holly Potter's good. I'm gonna start using that. Make make something out of nothing. Magic. Uh yeah. So the Eagles are gonna have joint practices with the Patriots. Like I said, I would expect AJ Brown to be there. Uh I think I know people are tired of this conversation. I know people are tired of like parsing through comments, but like I do I've had even more thoughts on the way that Howie Roseman and Nick Siriani today have answered the AJ Brown question. So let's start with Nick's quote. Uh when asked if AJ was will be at if he if he expects AJ to be at the facility at the start of the offseason program, which is next month. Good po.inted question Yes. Nick says nothing has changed there. AJ is an eagle. Nothing has changed from the last time I spoke to you guys. That's where we are. And then the follow-up was, so will he be at the offseason program? Nick didn't answer it. I would I would be generous in saying that he nod ded. Okay. I don't I don't like generous of you. He didn't answer the question. Yeah. I think he was trying to be dismissive of the question. Like he sort of put his hand up and w ent, Yeah. I I don't I don't know if that's not a yes, that's not a no. It's somewhere in between. Um that's just me reporting what happened. Um to me , we talked about this with Howie. You know, AJ Brown is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. And I I've I've seen some different readings of it that I think are fair. That it's when you hear that from a general manager. I wrote this on all phoy.com this morning. When you hear that from a general manager, it's usually not a great sign for the players' prospects of being on the roster. Yeah. Long term. Nick's answer tod ay, like coupled with how he's ans wer, it probably decreases my turkey count a little bit that AJ's back. I think it's fair to say that we've been a little high on this. We've been high on it. Not Howie Potter high. No. Yeah, just we've been a little higher than I would say the sentiment here would would lead you to believe . The thing the thing about the their answers that makes me a little bit lower like probability that he's back. Probability that he's back. What did I say it weird? No, it's lower. Oh, okay. Nice. I get what you're saying there. The thing the thing about it feel, bab y. In the past, they've like projected strength. Yeah. When talking about AJ situation. Maybe they're just trying something different. No. I don't think that they're just oh yeah, whatever. Let's just see how they let's see how this one goes. Yeah. No, they've projected strength in the past. He's a great player, you know, we are not in the business of trading great players. Even Nick, like obviously did like the I can't guarantee anything's gonna happen. Yeah. But he still, you know, said like he's we want him back and he wants to be here. You know, it's like there's been a like again, like a a position of strength. Like they do not they're not just going to trade him, right? And these answers are a lot less about protecting strength, a lot less about maintaining leverage and a lot more just about like the situation is what it is. And that's, you know, we don't have anything to say about it. I think the fact that like they don't have anything to say about it. And this is where like the conversation can be exhausting because it's like that means that like nothing's really changed, you know, and that maybe that maybe it's maybe the read is that it's a stalemate. Maybe the read is June 2 nd we will revisit this. But I do think that their their their tonal shift makes me a little bit less confident about where they stand. I have a caveat, but I I don't want to go on too long here. Well it is a d it is a delicate bal ance related to on the clock here. Yeah. Be cause if they're going to trade AJ Brown and there is a there is a handshake agreement in place for a June first, June 2nd trade , they're not ready to go into the season at wide receiver, right? Devante, Hollywood Brown and Darius Co oper. Really Devonta, Darius Cooper, and Hollywood Brown, of course. Is is not ready for primetime for a team with Super Bowl aspirations and one last ride with all these guys. Yeah. But if you draft a wide receiver in the first ro und, there goes your leverage with AJ Brown, right? To some degree. Necessarily. I mean, if they draft like Chris Bell, well, he'll be out. So I mean if they drafted a like AJ Brown light, you know, like a baby AJ Brown, which would be funny. Um, if they drafted a player that is very stylistically similar similar to AJ, maybe then you would say like those guys really don't coexist that well. But realistically, like you could just I mean they've talked about the depth at receiver being a priority for them. Yeah. Especially if it was somebody like Chris Bell, you could still have leverage there. But to your point, the thing that I'm still hung up on, even with my like per, you know, even with me being a little bit lower on a turkey count than I was whatever what whatever it was, twelve hours ago or whatever it was. Um I just I really think there's only one major suitor. It's the New England Patriots. We'll hear from Mike Vabel tomorrow, which I think will be interesting. Yeah. Um and with that, like I'm not sure that the Eagles asking price is, I think it's fair to say that the Eagles asking price has been the hang up here. They want a lot for AJ Brown, justifiably so he's a great player. And I think that like in less it's always been about leverage. And when I've been high, like when I've been high on the likelihood that AJ Brown gets traded, it's been because I think there are enough teams to drive the price up to where the Eagles will have the asking price. I'm less confident about that now because of the fact that we're there again, there's really only one suitor. And to this point, they have not been able to find common ground on a potential trade package. So you know, maybe June sec.ond rolls around The Eagles are a little bit more willing to trade him because they can offset the dead cap hit. And oh by the way, like they're gonna get the Patriots future first like they wanted um rather than getting the 31st pick in this year's draft. Maybe that all falls into place and that's why the trade happens. But if they hit another snag, it's not like they can pivot and trade him. I don't the Rams. I don't think they're trading him to a team that they're going to compete for, compete with in the conference. So the landing spots are just harder to pick out than they were uh, you know, maybe a month or two a go. Do you think that Howie is willing to in front of the league, like n knowing what his asking price was, settle for significantly less. That's that's my that's my remaining hang up. Yeah. Is I don't think like I mean what Waddle went for 'cause if he is what if he does that then, it's a it's a signal that all of his asking prices are you know he willing he's willing to come down, you know. He's got a reputation as a negotiator to maintain. Yeah, it's it's tricky. You know, like the Hassan Reddick trade was still like you know, like in a you you could package you could frame the Hassan Reddick trade in a way that was still favorable for the Eagles, even though it maybe wasn't exactly what we thought they'd get for him. You push it out in the future years and you get a future pick that looks like what you would have expected to get for him. I don't know. I don't think I the the tricky thing is like putting a number on it. So like Waddle went for a one plus, essentially . Like if if the Patriots are just offering you their future first, are you doing that deal for AJ Bro wn? Especially when the asking price has been significantly more. Yeah, but if if AJ has said, I'm not playing for your team . Yeah, we don't know that. Right. Yeah. And I I would still be surprised if A J had that much of a like a hard stance where it's like he's not coming back. I'd be a little surprised at that. Yeah. Um , my my percentage is lower. I'm probably back under 50 percent. Back under 50? Yeah, just you know what's funny though? We have no uh consistency. No, no, no, no. You know what's funny is that like I was I was pretty low at the Super Bowl. I was like, I think I think he's gone. And then like, you know, we get through the like we're we're kind of home for a little bit, and I'm going back up. And then Combine, I dropped a little bit and then I kind of go back up again. It feels like every time that the whole league convenes together, my my like confidence level in AJ being back drops. Like when you're talking to people around the NFL, yeah. I think that my my my perception changes a little bit. All right. Well let's close the book on On the Clock, presented by Ashley. And you know, starting next week, we're gonna get into our position-by-position previews. of the draft I'm looking forward to doing that. Um see if you're gu ys. First second round, it makes sense. Did you see it? No, I haven't seen it yet. Shout out to Nick Field on social media here because he sent us the coaches in the GM photo. Okay. I want you to guess who Nick Siriani stood next to. Oh, it's funny. You'll never guess. I'll never guess. I don't think you'll guess. He's only standing next to one person? I mean, yes, he''ss on on the the he end. He's on the end. Yeah, he's on the end. He's on the sitting. He's standing. He's really on the periphery of the photo. Like the way the angle of the photo that Nick Nick sent us, there's a gap between him and this coach, which honestly makes sense. Um that's the big hint I'm gonna give you. There's a gap. There's a little bit of a gap. I mean, of course. They're not touching. That's the hint you're gonna give me. Okay. You would be surprised. You'd be surprised that he's standing next to this coach of all coach es. Could be Mike LaFleur. That's an interesting but but no, but it's like somebody hold on let me uh let me let me get I'm gonna give one guess. Okay. Guess in the chat if you haven't seen it . Sean Payton, but but if it's if if it's if it's either gonna be someone who like nobody knows, or it's gonna be someone he's had beef with. Um is it Brian Dable? It's not Brian Dable. That would be fun. I would like that. All right. Is it Mike Vrabel? No. That would be funny too. Okay. Not Joe Brady, not Jeff Hafley, not Aaron Glenn. Brian Dave Wallnik would be like the crash out kings. Not Munken. Not Tayl or Yeah, Steichen would have been the one that's not I haven't seen Stiykan around. Uh I haven't seen him, but he's in the pic ture. Um weird seeing Shane without a hat. Is it Shanahan? No. Okay. And it's not Kellen Moore because that would make sense. CDP you, you got it. Are in the chat? No, I'm not. Alright. CDP got it. Is it Dan Campbell? No, you're cl ose. In a way. LaFleur? No. Oh. You're close in a way. Just tell me. Dan Quinn. Oh. That makes sense to me. I wouldn't no, it doesn't. Well have the beast though. They stick together. Oh, they don't. They literally had beef at the end of the season. I was surprised. That's not that. That's that's not that crazy. It is that crazy. Especially it is weird though. There is a space there. They're much further apart than Yeah, because they got beef. Yeah. Now Salah, he has beef. Remember he has beef with Salah from the preseason. Yeah. He's just hanging. Maybe that's why there's the gap. Yeah . He's really splinting. I think we need to get Nick some sunglasses. Yeah, he doesn't look happy to be there. Um now Nick points out, Nick Field, again shout out Nick. Okay. Uh he points out that Howie's like front and center. But I just think that that's like speaks to the fact that like how he like knows everyone and like has like a good relationship with everyone. He wanted to be with his boy Schneider. Yeah. I should have made you guess who he was. Now hold on. Does uh and the coaches because Schneider's front middle sitting. Does Mike McDonald get that same treatment as like the defending Super Bowl champion? Kind of, yeah. Yeah, he honestly is sitting in the same spot. Kind of or less. Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, this was fun. I can't believe you're surprised. You didn't think that Dan Quinn was No, but they're already connected. I thought I thought you like you'll never guess who we're standing next to. That's yeah, I feel like that's I would have thought that they would have stayed away from each other, you know. Don't don't cross me. Beef's col d. I gu ess. All right. Uh what'd you think of the Browns pulling their proposal for uh five years out trading draft picks? It's probably the right thing for the league to do. Because usually when they pull these proposals out, it's because they know that they don't have right the votes to get it through. You don't have the votes. Um I think it's probably a good thing for the league. You know, we talked about it uh a little bit before Nick got there in in like the hour and change that we had to kill uh from getting our seat at the table and then you know just having a nice chat with everyone. I think if you're the NFL your concern need should be that like Yeah protect the teams from themselves. Yes and you need to protect the league from having games that are irrelevant. You know, and I think that especially as the league pushes toward, you know, it will we we haven't really talked about the NFLPA and the CBA, but I think like my concern as someone who consumes NFL content all the time and cares about the well-being of the NFL is that like does it at some point get to a place that other sports are at where not every game feels significant. You know, like the scarcity of the product is some is important to the product. Yeah, they're not worried about that. They're gonna be putting games on every day. Yeah, but the thing is the the the the upshot with that is at some point you're gonna cheapen the Sunday slate so much that your like your your main product is going to take a hit. And if you've got teams that trade, like, you know, let's use the Clippers as an example, like if you've got teams that trade their entire future away for a player like Kawhi Leonard. Uh, you know, like the Deshaun Watson example is the other one. Like that's the perfect example. Yeah. Imagine you trade five years of first round picks for let's say Joe Burrow, and then Joe Burrow can't stay healthy for that time. Yeah. Like all of a sudden, Bengals games for years are irrelevant. Um, so I think that for that reason it makes sense that they didn't push it through. I think it would have been fun, but probably not good for the NF L. Super chat from wide receiver Ferguson ASU says, Why aren't you doing a remote somewhere more fun? Biltmore has some good restaurants. Old Town Scottsdale, Scottsdale quarter two. Where is the Phoenix studio? I mean, what first of all, we got two people here. You're the best we can. These are beautiful studios. But the Phoenix is a fun location. In downtown Phoenix. I love these. I like these places. You know, maybe next next time. Maybe tomorrow we'll do some we're gonna do another stream yard uh deal., but I don't know Don't let this guy peer pressure you. No offense. I appreciate the super chat. I appreciate you watching. Thank you for your support. Yeah, this is this is a fun fun setting. Plus, where are you gonna get a better view of our legs? Yeah, this is tough, you know, this is a tough year for the legs, you know, like why? Because my like it's a it's a Smith thing that like we've got like kind of different shades going on going throughout different spots, you know. They don't see the sun that much. Like the under the underside of my arm. You know, you gotta we'll work on it. You know, the sun's coming out. We will we will tan these legs up. Okay. You should see like I always wear ankle soc ks. You should see what uh uh uh like what underneath these equipment size looks like. You'll be it'll blind you. All right. Uh I will give you a takeaway just on uh on Sean Mannion and I don't know if this matters, but there is a consistency in the way that both Nick Siriani talked about him and then Matt LaFleur talked about him. At the same like pretty much at the same time, too. Where essentially they're all they're saying is, I've never been around anybody who works as hard as this guy. Yeah. N ow, sometimes I think that can be overstated. And like, I don't know that I need you to be a hard worker if you 're not bringing like expertise to the table. Yeah. Um, but it's it's at least it's a consist ent theme with him. And LaFleur said, you know, both when he was around him as a player with the Rams and then obviously as a coach with the Packers the last two years, it all it all kept going. And you know that that's going to be something that appeals to Siriani. Yeah, yeah. And he he mentioned it too. He mentioned that he's got a relentless work effort. Uh, and you know, just that he's been at it one hundred and ten percent all the things you'd expect to hear, but yeah, it was the thing that stood out to me is that they said it like at the same time. So it's you know, I mean not that they would have coordinated their answer anyway, but still it is disappointing that we haven't just had a chance to talk to the guy yet. Yeah, it really reminds me of that Jonathan Gannon situation in 2021 where it was like, why haven't we heard from the defensive coordinator for a while? Um, I don't think it's the same reason, but yeah. I mean, it's just the reason is this is how they do things now. They to it's sad. I would love to hear from them. Yeah. I'm sure fans would too. All right. What do you got next? Um, I just have small ones from here. Uh I thought it's not necessarily surprising, but to kind of close the loop on the Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore like vision. Um Nick talked about their their speed being a point of emphasis. Again, I I don't think that that's gonna surprise anybody, but um I do think there's a prioritization to make sure that that number three receiver is a field stretcher this year. Okay. And that they didn't have sufficient depth at that spot in the last few seasons. What did Nick say when asked about jihad Campbell in the offseason recovery for him. Yeah. He said that he like loves football and that he works really hard. Um it was a good question by uh friend of the show, former colleague Olivia Reiner. Yeah. Um but yeah, it was mostly about that jihad Campbell just is you know, he loves football. He's always around football. He's all ball. So not not as much insight on the timeline or you know where he's at. Okay. What else you got? Um let's That's it for me. I'm done. Okay. I got some. U h maybe I don't. Here, let me let me refer to the old notepad. Uh keeping this here. Oh, you said he loves uh Johnny Munt's toughness. The old patty pat. You know, I wrote that one down. You know, I enjoyed uh some Johnny Munt talk. Uh talked about the importance of having combo tight ends, guys who can do both. Uh, you know, be it's important because you know if you have a guy who's only on the field when you run then the defense knows. If you got a guy who's only on the field when you pass, the defense knows. So you gotta have a guy who can do both. Get you a man's who can do b oth. That's basically exactly what he said. Uh yeah, he said that he needs guys who will be efficient in both areas. Um I thought it was interesting. Oh, you know what? I do have notes on this one. Uh he was discussing like the the idea that the Eagles are gonna bring back very similar personnel on offense, something that Howie also discussed Sunday night. Uh, and basically Nick said it's on them as the coaching staff, which I think, you know, it's I don't know what minute we are on in the show here, uh, because I can't read that. 55. But that to me, it's we probably should have gotten to that earlier than the fifty-fifth minute of the show. Because I do think that that is one of the major themes going into next season that the Eagles really did kind of run it back personnel wise. At least right now it seems like they are going to run it back personnel wise. Maybe they add a tight end early in the draft, maybe they add a wide receiver and they trade AJ Brown, so it looks a little bit different. But the main characters for the most part on this offense are going to remain. And the biggest changes that they've made to address the fact that they struggled significantly on offense have been on the coaching staff. I think that does, you know, I said earlier in the show, like, you know, they've added so many former quarterbacks, it kind of takes away some excuses that you could make for Jalen Hurts. The the way that they've operated on offense this offseas on, there will be very few excuses for Nick Seriani, uh, if things don't improve. So and I think, you know, his answer alluded to that, you know, that it is on them as the coaching staff to bring the change that they need to get back on track offensively because yeah, the the players are mostly going to remain the same. Mostly. I think that's right. Yeah. I mean Do you think that that goes back circles back to the discussion we had before about Nick and his enthusiasm, that he knows that this is one last ride potentially? I'm I'm certain that he's not looking at this as like one last ride. At least not for him. Maybe for like this era of the maybe this version of the team. Maybe that's how he view how he would view it. But yeah, I think he probably understands what's at stake, you know, and maybe that's part of it. Because yeah, he he laid it out as cleanly as you would as you would like. Like it is on them as the coaches to make sure that this offense looks different next year. Yeah. I mean it's where all the turnovers been. It surprises me a little bit. You know, like when and entering the off seas on, I the conversations we were having is like I just thought there was there would be a little bit more turnover on the margins. Yeah, or even honestly, I f I figured there would be changes with some of the main characters. You know, when you entered the offseason, you would have looked at Lane Johnson, Dallas Goddard, AJ Brown, you add Landon Dickerson into there, like you know, I don't think we really have thought Lane or Landon were leaving. I mean Lane, I was fifty-fifty on Lane at the start of the offseas on. I would have expected more turnover. Then it's not a bad thing. It's a good thing that they've been able to keep these great players. But again, it does put more onus on the coaching staff to figure out how to get it right with this collection of players. All right. Well, uh a little bit left on the bone, as it were, here on the PHMY Eagles podcast. Let's get to it in overti me. Right now tonight, EJ. Yeah. We got the mixer. The hobnob begins. Oh yeah. What owner are you most looking forward to talking to? Jeffrey Laurie, obviously. Yeah, come on. I don't talk to Jeffrey all the time. Maybe you do. You're a good repor ter. Jeffrey calls me all the time. Yeah. I that wouldn't shock me. Like I said, you're a good reporter. Um yeah. I don't know. What owner are you most excited to talk about? I need you to ask Howie about the back to the future. Probab ly I don't know. Maybe we should do maybe we should do for the vlog uh just asking thirty one owners how they feel about Josh Harris being in the Epstein fil es I don't know. I mean I don't know if we can be in the same room the two of us. That's that's probably too much sex appe al. Don't you think? You know I hadn't thought about it . This might surprise you, but I hadn't considered I hadn't considered that. It's a fun part. Do you think they're gonna have a petting zoo? They had a petting zoo a couple years ago. Yeah, llamas.. Ye Yeahah. Or no, it wasn't llamas. It was um alpacas. Yes, it was alpacas, I think. The little little smaller version. I mean, I'm not gonna say no to a petting zoo. I mean, I might say no to a petting zoo. Yeah. Oh, can I tell I have to tell them the story? So Bo and I got dinner late last night. We were on the way back to the hotel. I don't even know what story that is. And you know it's hot outside, so we got the windows down. We're sitting at a red light. The lights taking forever. Out of nowhere. It was like something out of a movie. Uh the car next to us, this little dog gets up in the window and starts barking at Bo. He jumped out of it. She's well. Oh my god. I don't know what's going on. And the best part is the light was taking so long that we just sat there for two minutes, and the dog is just barking at Bo. The dog definitely knew, like, you're not a dog guy. Like I'm I'm about to be all over. I especially do not like a little yappy dog. I actually don't hate yappy dogs anymore. I love all dogs. Dogs are great. Um that dog was hilarious. It was literally like something out of a movie. Like a long day, you know, took a long flight to get in. You know, worked worked all even not not complaining, but you know, just like it's it's late. It's like the line for in and out burger was too long. Yeah, we had to we had to bag that. Went to Whataburger instead. Shout out Whataburger. Um you know, it's the end of a very like, you know, again, not a like a hard day necessarily, but just a a long stretch. And we're both just sitting there. It's quiet. And then all of a sudden that dog just jolts you awake. So shout out to that dog. Not a bad dog . Careful, careful. I don't need to see that dog ever again. CDP with a super chat in just under the wire. Rank the NFL owners. Uh we can't do that. All right, take out Jeffrey. Ye ah. If you were a fan of a team, give me your top three owners. Top three own ers. I would say that's too hard. I'm like really trying to scan through the league now. You have a list in front of you ? Number one by far, the Packers. No o wner. Yeah, that is okay. That's a good start. I think uh Biscotti is pretty good. Ye ah. Uh Bishat ti. Bishatti. Um That's about it. I want to say some teams, but I don't know enough about like what they do outside of football. You know? Like I'm I'm really hampshot. Jody Allen was a good one, but she's still on the team. Like I would say the Hunt famil y. Yeah. Yeah, that's what I mean. You know? Like just from like an organizational standpo int. Yes, but ye ah. It's easier to think about the worst things. Yeah, I think the runies are solid. Yeah, I don't know. This is hard. What about the Pagulas? No. Yeah. All right. This is too hard because all evil people. Well, that's that's I wouldn't go so far as saying that. It's hard to become a billionaire without being an evil person. It's hard to become a billionaire wit hout having that killer instinct. Yes, I would agree. I'm trying to be more neutral than you. We're about to be we're about to be around all these people. Um yes fine. I would agree. It's hard to like it's just I don't want to rank them because of the fact that like I don't understand the full picture with a lot of them. The only thing I would say, as a fan of European soccer, as you might remember. Um
