That's a better way to money. Let's get started at nm.com, the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 76ers are playing bound. The question is where will they be? Tuesday or Wednesday? Welcome to the PHY Sixers post-game show. Live from the Xfinity Studio. Along with Kyle, I'm Devon Bree, the president of basketball operations. All of you, thanks for hanging out with us for game number 82 of the Sixers regular season. We appreciate you as always. We are presented by Bet365. We're winning as ever ything. And although if the season hasn't been long enough, we still have about three minutes to go to find out where the 7 6ers will be. Celtics magic watch along, baby. We are here. Gets under way. So, yes, the Sixers win 45 and 37 to finish off the season. Decent record, of course, it was right around where we thought they would be, especially with players in and out of the lineup. Uh, later on, we will get to our Bet365 post-game tracker. We will also have our uh big takeaway that we will get to presented by Xfinity, and as we go along here in this first segment, I'd imagine it should only take the first segment unless there are a lot of fouls and there's an overtime. We are awaiting the final of Magic turnover right out of the timeout. Magic final game, down seven, with uh just under three minutes to play. And neither team can score at this point. Boston is tired. Orlando is not very good, and we're waiting to find out if the sixes just made a push shot to push the lead to nine for Boston two and forty to play. All right cool so seven seed eighth seed let us know in the chat with these final few minutes going on that Kyle is letting us know with the watch along for Celtics and Magic, let us know where you think they're gonna end up in the chat. Let us know before the score goes to the game. I think they will be hosting this game on Tuesday and well on Wednesday, I should say Who are also fighting for their playoff lives. We talked about this in the preg ame show, Devon, but this to me was the likelier outcome. If you're hoping for help from somebody, it was going to come from the Boston Celtics because I think they just have a little bit of a sturdier culture than the Brooklyn Nets will say. And they've done exactly what we kind of expected today. They played hard. The playyed to their identity . And Orlando in this game, from the parts that we were watching, has shown you exactly why I don't think you should fear them as a potential play-in opponent. I do think they were the easiest draw of the potential play-in teams, but we can analyze them a little bit more as that game wraps up. On the Sixers end, Devon, they went out and they took care of business today. We we discussed it in the Indiana game. While we'd like it to look pretty, we'd like it to be a VJ and Tyrese go crazy. Paul George plays well. Ultimately what matters is you get the win and you let the chips fall. You can't make up for the losses earlier in the season. Yeah. And although this game was closer than it should have been after the first half was over, in fact they were losing after the first half. Tyrese Maxie came out, started the third quarter and really just took that game over. I think the big thing was that frankly he started trying a little bit because he only played I think he played a little under fifteen minutes. Ooh, big three by Desmond Bain, cut the lead to four with two minutes left. In the first quarter, or you mean the first half? Just now. No, I mean Tyrese Maxie. Tyrese Maxie only played fourteen fifty nine, I believe, in the first half, one for five from the field, and really was not super engaged during those fifteen minutes. He came out on a mission in the second half. And we talk about it all the time. When he's the undisputed guy, he's the leader out there, whatever injuries, whatever problems that he's dealing with, he's got to take it to other teams. So while he slow rolled this game once again without Jawal Embiid and felt his way into it a little bit. I thought the third quarter, he did exactly what needed to be done. Doc was handing him a lot of single coverage, a lot of isolation possessions, and he's just beat guysing up, right? He's going by people. Semi-transition plays because the defense was better in the second half as well. He's going by guys in transition, getting to the rim, scoring at the basket. And so this is not a game where we were like, man, they have this big challenge in front of them, but Maxie did what he needed to do to get this team a pretty comfortable win, sit the entire fourth quarter. And I think that probably is as meaningful as anything else is that the main guys got to rest heading into whether it's Tuesday or Wednesday, this matchup with Orlando that is on the way. The thing that to your point about Maxie and what he did and you know how he played there and that it's that he still has that. And that was the important thing to see is that it's in there. And while these games have counted, you know that they're also looking at things as we have to get there. And they were already going to get there. It was just a matter of five, six, seven, eight, nine, or ten . Now that they are there, and Tyrese Maxie said it on the post-game uh walk-off interview that we are prepared for whoever we have to play, whenever we play, wherever we play. And that's the mentality that he has right now. He feels good about his bunch, about his team, uh, of who they are, of what they're capable of once they get in there. And it doesn't matter really for for him and them as to who they play in the play in, since they know that that is their their their what's staring them right in the face is the play in first before they get to any playoff situation is that that's where they are. But for him to be able to have that 16-point third quarter after a five-point first half and just under 15 minutes as Kyle laid out, that was important to see that he is still capable of that. Now look, they were some backup guys and not uh you know not starters that they're gonna have to face in the play in , but he's still capable of a big quarter to give them a a cushion that they need. And he can do that in any in any game against any team, even as compromised as he is with the finger, that he can still go out there. And if he even if it's not sixteen, but he can give you ten that pushes a playoff lead. I'm just calling it playoff for for for the purpose of what we're talking about. Push a playoff lead that is four to maybe ten going into the fourth quarter or even in the second quarter where, you need a big down to a three point lead for Boston when O'Carter Jr.'s got a second free throw coming up here. Where you need a big where you need a big second quarter to maybe separate yourselves going into the locker room because we know that of their third quarter woes, that that's what you need from Tyrese Maxie. So it was good. It was important to see that he is still capable of doing that, even though the finger is currently what it is right now. It's very important for him to be able to show that he can still take that out of his pocket and go ahead and do that. Yeah, and the trick is going to be adding the other stuff, right? I think during this period where he's been playing through the pinky issue, Maxie has generally shot well inside the arc. So the fear is not that he is turning into a guy who you know doesn't want to drive, doesn't want to get fouled. Like I think he's actually been fairly adventurous because that's a that's where your hand actually gets hurt more, right? When you're trying to tuck it and drive into the paint. Guys are slapping down. Oh, Paolo just passed up a wide open three. Oh, he stepped out of bounds. Huge, huge, huge swing there. He had an open three. It looked like an open three, but his heel was out of bounds. Busted possession for Orlando. Hang with us for the six for the Magic Celtics watching. Reacting to this live right now. This is Orlando Magic Basketball, man. The inability to score down the stretch. So, anyway, Tyrese's willingness to get into the teeth of the defense and drive and look to score and absorb contact, that has been very encouraging for me during this stretch because we've seen a lot of guys, you put a lot of guys in that situation. Jalen Suggs just tied the game 35 seconds left on a transition three. They will be gun shy about that. They're worried about the slap downs and things like that. For him it's been more can you give me some more step back jumpers? Can you give me some more pull-up threes maybe on the break? And mechanically that's where I think he has felt the pinky where he's trying to gather it and get into his release on a as a pull-up shooter. That hasn't necessarily been there. So it's not going to be perfect, right? This is not going to be the best 100% version of Tyrese Maxey, but the fact that he's able to still, as you said, put together a 16-point quarter and put a game away, that's encouraging. And hopefully he's able to do that against a better defensive team in Orlando in this game this week. And when we talk about Orlando , physical defensive player like Jalen Suggs, the same thing for Anthony Black in the backcourt. Desmond Bain, who will get switched, he will get switched on to uh from time to time. He's going to need to be able to kind of just block that out and it it is what is, kind of situation for Tyrese Maxie and that hand. He knows what it is. He understands that he is again a little bit limited, and being able to find a way to still be Tyrese Maxie and maybe not score 40 to win a playoff game, but maybe score 25 with the assists and the rebounds, playing solid defense where he can steal a couple of those play in the passing lanes, getting, getting out there some extra opportunities for his team, get out and transition and finish. That's where you look at for Tyrese Maxie and the 76ers. So important that we already know because of the Toronto Raptors, Nets score. No drama in the Nets game. Shockingly dry. We already know that one. So with that, you know it's going to be the Orlando Magic. Alright, Boston Balls. Physical backcourt. That's a physical team. And they will hack. And we see how crazy Desmond Bain gets where he shoves guys and unnecessary plays and fouls and all. Which does play a little better in the playoffs, or they're not gonna they're a little bit more reluctant to give guys te ase. And so you you can play that style, I think, a little easier in the setting that they're gonna be in this week. Yeah. Three for Boston. Bang! Boston up there . I don't even have to look and at the end of the ATO baby with the double double Celtics up three. How much time? There is thirty-one seconds left. So they they got a quick one out of the timeout, playing for the two for one, managed to hit the shot. I don't know that it was great design. He just hit a three right over the top of, I believe it was Wendell Carter Jr. And in his face. Oh man, that's a tough shot. Tough shot. Anyway. Legendary. The only time we'll say that about a Celtics player on this show. And in this city. Yeah. So no, it's good to see Tarry SmackTee. Who is our player of the game, by the way, everybody? Uh, not that there was much of a surprise. There were some other good individu al performances that we will highlight and focus on throughout the show. As we also have our watch along Magic and Celtics as we wait to find out if the Sixers will be the seventh or eighth seed in the postseason, Tuesday, Wednesda y. We wait to find that out. But good to see the player of the game, Tyrese Maxie finishing off with a strong finish for that 16-point third quarter, 21 points overall, and sit in the fourth quarter where he didn't have to do much. We have reporting from the Sixers locker room from Derek who said there was a big cheer watching in the locker room as Garza hits that three because they obviously know what's at stake. It'd be nice to not have to get on a plane, host a play-in game, and hopefully take care of business. So they are they are all all watching that game and invested in the result here. Yeah. Yeah. So nice. Nice overall. Uh and we will give you head-to-head matchup with the Sixers and the Magic a little bit later in the show to let you know what happened the season series. We know that the Sixers won it, but just to give you a visual of what happened in the three games between the Sixers and the Magic discrepancies of the final score, how close or how how how spread out they were, we'll let you know about all of that as the show uh goes along. So uh but you know good good to see Maxie do that. Good to see them come out there and handle their business. And then in the second in the second half after they were down to turn it around. I mean they needed to and they had to and they turned it around. We saw it with the Toronto Raptors early. Brooklyn is hanging in there. Toronto said, nah, we're With this this uh the backups of the Boston Celtics where this is coming down. Final possession. Miss Celtics rebound. Yeah. They're not fouling. They're not fouling. Oh , it's a run-out. They're wasted. This game, I think, is about a Why are they not fouling? They're just going for the steal. Nine and a half seconds to go. Celtics will be at the free throw line to push this to four or five points. It appears that we are going to get a play in game in South Philadelphia. Just make one, man. This week. Just make one, man. So thanks for hanging out with us on the watch along. We want to make sure that we say, listen, first, hit the like button, subscribe, and spread the word. So uh Celtics right now with a five point advantage with seven point nine seconds remaining in this one. And it appears that with this win, the Sixers will be hosting the Orlando Magic, and that will be on Wednesday night in South Philadelphia. And we will have you covered for pregame 30 minutes before. We'll let you know tomorrow what our special thing is that we're doing for the game and we will let everyone know on Monday. Misses the three. Yeah, that's that'll do it. All right. Just not enough time at this point. Seven seed bound. Wednesday Sixers Magic in South Philadelphia is on the way, everybody. Yes indeed. I gotta say, we will get deeper in the weeds on it tomorrow and later in the show. even If you lose to this magic team, I will be pretty disappointed because they just cannot score on a regular basis. Are in fact the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference standings, and they have two chances in the play-in. But as Kyle pointed out, they have a really good opportunity of just simply winning game one at home against the Orlando Magic. Much more to talk about with looking ahead a little bit to what we just said to kind of reset everything and reset the show with the final score in Boston. Celtics win, Magic lose. The four leaf cov Clover, they help us out. For once in our damn lives, the Celtics help out us. Here in Philadelphia. When we come back, we will set the scene as far as the standings goes. We will take a look back at the games that they played to let you know how the season series turned out during the regular season for the Philadelphia 76ers. Breaking news Rivers is we 're leaving the Bucks. As we go. It's all happening. The Sixers ran Doc Rivers out of the coaching seat. Doc Rivers, according to Shams, is departing. Welcome back to the PHLY Sixers Postgame Show where the Sixers handle their business to finish 45 and 37 with a 126 -106 win over the Milwaukee Bucks and forced Doc Rivers into retirement after he is leaving the Milwaukee Bucks as head coach. Boy, that's gonna be a fun flight back to Milwaukee tonight and the Boston Celtics. He might be sticking around the organization, it seems like as a front office guy. There's some smoke out there, but certainly certainly done as a coach. You want him helping out choosing the head coach? Probably not. Yeah. All right. We'll stay out of it. Adrian Griffin, welcome back. Boy, would that be something. All right. Your sixes are the seventh seed, and uh they will host the Orlando Magic at home on Wednesday night in a 7-8 matchup, time deep TBD. Uh as of right now, we will figure all of that out once it's announced. But Kyle, just your, as you mentioned, going into the break , they should beat the Orlando Magic. You feel pretty good about that. That said, um, we will get back to the Sixers game tonight a little bit later, but the most important thing is now they are hosting a play-in matchup against the Orlando Magic. So your your initial thoughts of your scouting if you will of what you s have seen from Orlando. They can't score, but also the Sixers, uh, where they are, no Joel Embiid, a little bit of a banged up Tyrese Maxie, first playoff experience for VJ Edge Comb, um Justin Edwards, Adem Bona, etc. Your initial thoughts to this first test for the Sixers. So the thing with Orlando, they're they're very much in the same category as the Sixers. They are not particularly strong in any one area. The exception for the Sixers is Jo el Embiid when he's available changes them from a mid-pack team on both ends of the floor to an elite offense with a very average defense . The magic have been super banged up a lot of the year. It's always Franz gets hurt. Palo is the guy. Then Franz comes back. Palo gets hurt. Franz is the guy. And they 've been able to kind of chug along in the I don't want to call them the one star because I'm not sure either guy is like truly a star at this point, even if they're they've made all-star and whatever. The problem for them is they have not figured out the formula when both those guys are available. And frankly, if you're asking me and opinions very, I think Paulo has been the bigger problem generally because he settles for a lot of the tough shots and doesn't make them, right? It's one thing we talk about the mid-range. There are certain players that you would encourage them to get to their mid-range jumper because they're connecting on it at a high percentage. We watch Joel Embiid all the time, right? Where that spot at the elbows is just absolutely automatic for him a lot of the time. Palo , not so much. And so when he is asked to drive the team, their offense isn't very good and their defense isn't very good. And their whole identity is supposed to be big, athletic, defensive minded. And I think for the season, they're somewhere around 14th or 15th in the league on offense. They're something like 16th or 17th or on defense. They're something like 16th or 17th in offense. They're not especially good at anything. And it feels like a team that one probably needs a different coach to at least change the offensive structure and see if they can get something out of these guys, and maybe even a trade of one of Paolo or Franz to unlock whether it's with another guard because they made the trade for Bain, thinking this is a guy who fits our identity while also juicing up the backcourt a little bit. And it didn't really change much of anything. It's still largely a mid-pack team on both ends of the floor. Yeah. And certainly they had a game against the Sixers around Thanksgiving where Anthony Black went crazy, they hit a bunch of threes and they blew Philadelphia out. But by and large, they are who they are, right? They are a grind it out. Hope that Palo and Franz can get it done enough in isolation. Franz a better playmaker, so if you're putting the ball in his hands, there's a better chance it's going to be driving kick, set up Sug, set up Bane. But they're just not very good. And that's not to say that the Sixers are world beaters, but I think we saw in the early matchup against Orlando that the guards can really punish the it's a s a speed versus size thing, right? They're gonna have opportunities for blow bys. VJ in that first game way back in the start of the regular season was blowing by Jalen Suggs and Desmond Bain for long stretches of that game. Maxie certainly has a speed advantage. So we talked early in this show, Devon, about his willingness to drive and get into the teeth of the defense despite the injury. I think that plays well in this one. For me, it's going to come down to more than likely, how do the Sixers play off a maxi getting doubled? Because I would imagine Orlando's plan is going to be with no Joel, we load up against Tyrese Maxie and we dare VJ. Yeah. We dare maybe not dare Paul George, but they're going to shade off of him a little bit. We certainly are going to dare the Kelly Ubre's, the Dominic Barlows of the world to hit shots against us, but they are not a superpower or anything close. And I think especially with this being on their home floor, this is a game that you should be expected to win. I imagine they'll be , if not heavy favorites, favorites to win this game amongst the betters and amongst the media. Certainly in our fan base, I would expect. Yeah. All right. So let's, you know what, while we're talking about this and this news has broken . Let's talk about the uh big takeaway presented by Xfinity uh where you make sure that if you need some help with all your services, make sure you check out xfinity.com uh to make sure it's all in 4 K. All right. Sixers are the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference play-in. Right now, they will host the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. You needed help from Boston? You got it tonight from the Boston Celtics. Toronto, they did what they were supposed to do and they beat and beat down the uh Brooklyn Nets, uh, just blew them out and and that's what it was uh there tonight. So as far as the standings go here right now, the uh as Bree has here on the screen, everybody, Charlotte will host the Miami Heat in the nine ten matchup. The seventy sixers will host the Orlando Magic on Magic on Wednesday, and the loser of the 7-8 matchup will then play and host the winner of 9-10. The winner of 7-8 will automatically jump right into the seventh seed and face the Boston Celtics who finish the year as the second seed in the Eastern Conference playoff standings. So uh your Sixers have a chance to see some familiar faces in the playoffs , but they have to handle their business first, as Kyle just pointed out, with winning the first game and not putting yourself in the position to have to win a second game. Now it's nice to have two chances , but if you can win one, just win the one, get the rest, get the extra time off after Wednesday, where you probably won't play Boston until Sunday, maybe maybe Saturday Saturday or Sunday' plasyoff start this weekend next weekend, it will probably I'm guessing they would because it's Boston Philadelphia, the rivalry, even though it's not the same right now without Joel Embiid, I'd imagine they might be Sunday over the Knicks, although the Knicks are the same the counterpoint to that is because the other play in game, the nine ten will be later in the week, that normally means that they give them an extra day. And so Detroit maybe plays on Sunday. And we'll see. I never know what the NBA's logic is with some of this stuff. So no, that's a fair point. Absolutely. So yeah, I for me the overarching takeaway is that if your hope was just to get in the playoffs, they got the best draw for the first round because I think the Hornets, with their offense and their ability to just make a ton of threes, that's a team that on shooting variants could beat you. Miami, while I don't think they're very good. Their record says that they're not very good. They still have Eric Spolstra. Bam Ottabayo is a guy in a playoff environment where his ability to switch one through five and be a defense kind of unto himself. Hero can get going a little bit. Norm Powell's been slumping, but you know, maybe he has a exact a big game, right? Like that's not a team you necessarily want to play. I think Orlando has all the makings of a team that in this group you'd prefer to play them. So I think there's no excuses to lose this game. I think with the way Maxie looked today, VJ playing that point role today, we're going to talk about that. I mean he had 11 assists in the final game of the season. That I think is super encouraging. The way he's handled the ball at the point of attack is nice for me. Kelly Ubre with a nice game today after a tough start. Paul George has been one of their quick starters, kind of taking over that role from Joel and Bede as the other guys take a little bit longer to get into the game. They have ways to score. I don't think Orlando can consistently generate offense at the level you need to to score in the playoffs. And frankly , to me, this game might come down to one thing . And it might be going away from the style of defense that they've played for a lot of the year. Because I think the mistake that you can make in this matchup is saying , okay, Palo is big as a match matchup disadvantage for some of our guys. Franz is big, although I saw that he was banged up in the second half. We'll see what his health is like. The mistake you can make is overloading on one of those guys or both of those guys and conceding open threes, right? Because Bane, Suggs, Wendell Carter Jr., well, none of those guys are like, oh, elite sniper type shooters. They are guys that if you concede open shots to them, they will make a bunch of them, right? If you just give them practice shots from the corners, Anthony Black certainly too. We saw him light them up early in the year . You don't want to play the overhelp, concede open corner threes defense to these guys. Cause I think if they try to live through Palo and Franz from the mid-range and in the drive and slash game, I just don't think that works for them to score enough points in a playoff game. So you take your chances playing one-on-one defense. Andre Drummond helping at the rim. Madem Bona helping at the rim. We'll see if they play small ball. That was the thing we saw today with Bona struggling once again. That's kind of where my head's at. If Paolo and Franz can go out there and beat you, okay. Against an undermanned Celtics team today, they shot a combined 14 of 42 . That's not good. That's not gonna get it done. And I would I would dare those two to beat you. Yeah. Yeah. And we'll talk about the game that they did have tonight. And there were some things that we need to talk about, good and bad, in this win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Final score. That's a better way to money. Let's get started at nm.com, the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Back here on the PHLY Sixers post-game show, your seventh seeded Sixers hosting the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. And Kyle, we now have a game time . Game time . Game time on Wednesday night. First game. We'll say this. First game is Tuesday. That's uh the Miami Heat at Charlotte, 730 start time there. That place is gonna be rockin'. Yeah, they 're their fans have been very excited about that team. Game two in the West. That will be the uh West eighth place team that has yet to be decided, Clippers or Portland at the Phoenix Suns. That's a 10 o'clock start time on Tuesday night. Sixers, 7.30, everybody. Market calendars. Set the alarm. 7 o'clock preg ame for us, baby. 7 o'clock pregame for us. 7:30 tip time in South Philly. Sixers hosting the Orlando Magic Game 2 will be the Golden State Warriors taking on uh on the road, the ninth place team again, Clippers or Portland, and uh we'll see how that one goes. Those games got out underway, the late games got underway tonight uh at 8 30. So 7 30, I mean, good time. 7 30, Wednesday night. Not too late, not too early. Yeah. Get some have some people probably tailgating a little bit, maybe. That's this is the time of year where it's always funny we had all the arena debates on the show when it was maybe gonna be in Chinatown and talked about how tailgating is not really a thing that people think about for the Sixers and even the Flyers that much because most games are in the winter. You don't want to stand out in a parking lot when it's freezing cold outside. I expect to see some people out standing by their cars coming out of Xfinity Live. Like it's going to be a supposed 80 degrees all week. Oh yeah. Warm weather. High 90s. You cold years for the game. Yes. Yes. Get a win, you know? Bring out the towels. Get the vibes going. Get the towel . Play in. Do they bring out the towels ? Uh we'll see. Or do they go T shirt? We'll see. I I think a T shirt is T shirt and then the playoffs game three against Boston, they'll bring out the rally towels for the first round matchup. Yeah. So I let's not get ahead of ourselves obviously. We've seen we've been on the roller coaster with this team all year. You never know what's gonna happen. We do know that actually, you know, I can't even say that tonight because they had a they won the third quarter by what twenty two points? They did. So they managed to reverse the season long trend in a I won't say a hugely important game, but a relatively important game to secure the seventh seed. Tyrese Maxie. An omen for the best is yet to come. Tyrese Maxie tied the Milwaukee Bucks for a point total in the third quarter. Sixteen to sixteen Tyrese Maxie Bucks. That's how it should have been on the box score. Maxie Bucks, 1616 in the third quarter. Also, if you just tuning in, if you missed it, Shams breaking the news, Doc Rivers will not be repeating the case the. Leaving Bucks head coaching job. Exactly. So if you just joining in, that's the news. Uh after the Sixers take down the Milwaukee Bucks, Doc Rivers is out after three years with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was supposed to come in and get them back to deep playoff contention, finals appearance potentially. And it did not work out. They finished this year with a 32 and 50 record for the Milwaukee Bucks. Yeah, I I will say I've said this a few times recently, I think. I have plenty of animosity for Doc the coach and Doc the excuse maker. I do like having covered him and having dealt with him, I don't have a lot of animosity for Doc Rivers, the person. I think sometimes he just needs to know when to when to just take your medicine, so to speak. So I hope that he enjoys whatever his next role is, time with his grand kids, time on the golf course, all that been a long, long, long career as both a player and coach. Maybe just step back and enjoy it a little bit. Do some TV. Yeah. Actually partial T because you wouldn't like him as a a TV guy. Initially when he when he took that job again before the Milwaukee gig, he wasn't a full time. He was a part time analyst. So part time. You know, part time. But you said he might be in the front office. Then that's his time then. That's his time. I my question is is he gonna be in Milwaukee, is he gonna be in Florida or LA? That's what my question is. As a front office consultant, where's he gonna be? Where's he gonna be? Good gig and good money if you can get it. Consulting . All right. Before we I always think of that as like you know in Seinfeld where you know George Costanza talks about being an importer exporter and has no idea what that actually entails. That's what consulting is to it's like such a nebulous job because you can consult in theoret ically every industry and they get like gobs of money to do so. Do some real work. I want that . Anyway. Good luck, Doc. Um happy trails. With us here before we go to break and we'll talk about the rest of the game on the other side. Here's the Eastern Conference playoff situation: one through ten. The Detroit Pistons finished first with a 60 and 22 record. They finished four games in front of the Boston Celtics, who finished with a 56-26 record. New York, three games back of the Celtics for third. Cleveland, they are 52-30 in fourth. And the Toronto Raptors , Atlanta Hawks, identical records at forty-six and thirty-six. Toronto is five. They will face the Cleveland Cavaliers. Six will be the Atlanta Hawks. They will take on the Milwaukee Bucks. Detroit will face You mean the New York Knicks. Sorry, the New York Knicks. The Bucks. Doc leaving the job as the Bucks somehow became the three-seed. Would have been quite a plot . Atlanta. Atlanta will face the Knicks and the Pistons will face the eighth seed, whoever comes out of the eighth seed, and the Boston Celtics will host whoever finishes as the seventh seed in the play-in standings, play play-in tournament that they have going on. So that's your one through ten. Charlotte, Miami will play one another on Tuesday in Charlotte for that first game. And I think we both agree that it's going to be rocking in there and probably picking Charlotte I didn't say it's going to be buzzing because it's you know very cliche , but it it certainly will be down there. It's it's probably gonna be Charlotte winning that basketball game because I mean they're just playing with house money at this point from where they were last season to where they are right now, uh uh their arrow pointing up, they're they're in a really good spot are are the Charlotte Hornets. So that's your playoff picture right now. We'll see where your seventy sixers will end up. On the other side, we'll get to our Bet 365 post-game picks tracker and we will talk about what we saw, what we liked, what we didn't like in the game that they did win by 20 over the Milwaukee Bucks, but this is more for play-in purposes of what we like, what we didn't like. We also we saw your super chats. We will get to those as well. Sixers win by 20 over the Bucks. Celtics handle. The backups, handle. Shout out Luke Garza. Baylor Shireman Ron Harper Jr., all those guys for helping the Sixers out and giving you a home game on Wednesday against the Orlando Magic. We come back, we break it all down. Should they handle their business against the Magic on Wednesday night, 7:30 start time on Wednesday, 7 o'clock pregame, right here on the PHLY Sixers Podcast. Before we get to your super ch ats and the game, Kyle and I and Bree decided let's kind of flash back to the three games because there's some real things to discuss from those three games. We'll certainly talk about it on Monday at 3 p.m. Tuesday as well. If we're yeah, Tuesday at 3 p.m. also uh we'll be with you, and certainly on Wednesday for the 7 o'clock show for the pre-game. But let's start off with uh game number one. Okay. Uh where the Sixers uh did take care of business winning one thirty six, one twenty four shootout over the Orlando Magic. In that game, as you point out, it's a shootout . Tyrese Maxie, 43 points. Um, eight assists, four rebounds. He made four threes, nine for ten from the free throw line. Vijay Edgecomb, 26-4 and 7 in that game , made two threes. 25 for Kelly Oubre with 10 boards and four assists. That was in 40 minutes for Oubre . The key here is Walker and Bonus started. No George. No Barlow, if you remember, that was early when he got hurt with the elbow. And no Paul George. So no Barlow, no Paul George, no Joel Embiid in game number one. Off the bench, you did get fourteen from Quentin Grimes uh in that matchup. For Orlando, Bancaro, thirty-two, seven and five. Franz twenty-two, four-and-four, uh double double for Wendell Carter, and you got twenty-four from Bain in a starting role, not much from Suggs, where he did have twelve, six, and six, but Anthony Black fourteen in that one, that's game number one. You had game two. So the second game is it's almost uh you have to throw it out on every level. Like the magic shot the lights out, and that you're just gonna have those type of games in the sea a regular season. You hope it doesn't happen in the play-in, obviously. But the Sixers were down, no Joel Embiid, no Paul George, but importantly, no Vijay Edgecombe. So where the VJ had come out in that first game and is just a bolt of lightning cutting through their backcourt. That's when he was dealing with the calf tightness, I believe, in the second one where they they sat him. So having no VJ was a huge factor in that blowout. He's he doesn't allow them to get anything going on offense. And it's part of why I look at it as like he's the big catalyst for this matchup because he has already shown this year he can put big games together against Orlando and when he's been taken out of the lineup it it immediately went to hell. Right. So I'm looking at VJ, despite the fact that he's a rookie, despite the fact this is his first meaningful postseason game that he's going to play as a pro, I'm looking to him as a big catalyst in this game. And when you look at today's game, Devon, I think you can see the outline of what that might look like. Like he has taken more and more responsibility as an on-ball creator. I think we've seen him all season play pretty responsibly with the basketball, but now is doing it where he's been able to rack up some like seven, eight assist games. Tonight he gets 11 assists , and not to say that Milwaukee had a great defense, a great roster out there, 11 assists and just one turnover. And I think the ability to push the pace, his ability to make drop-offs and traffic , make the kicks to the corner, find his guys, while also getting to his mid-range, while also being a comfortable pull-up shooter. He did not shoot well from three today, one for five, but I think he's a player that is built for this type of moment. Certainly the confidence is there. And I think his skill set has rounded out as we've gotten deeper into the season. They're going to need him to be better than the four for 11 from the field that he sho wed today. But I think the key is just going to be decision making. What they can't have him do is turn the ball over five or six times against Orlando because Orlando if you can get them into a half-court game , they struggle. When you allow them to get out on the break and they can find guys on the wing for transition threes, when Palo gets into a one-on-one size matchup with like a Kelly Ubre, a Quinton Grimes, a Justin Edwards, whoever it might be, that's where you're gonna find yourselves in trouble. So I think the two sides of it in those first two games, Joel did play in the third one and the game they won to get the tiebreaker. But I think in those first two games you could see the importance of V J, and I think what we've seen from him today and in some of these recent games where he spends long time long periods of time running the team. I think that's part of the key to success in not just this game, but in a And B did play as Kyle mentioned in game number three, sixes one that went in Orlando. That was early January. And Joel finished with 22-9 and three. Maxie had a uh team high, actually. Let me just check a game high, 29. Uh uh and uh not much from assist and rebounds, but he had three steals. Uh Paul George, uh 18, 9, and 3 And it was a very quiet VJ game if I remember correctly. Two steals off the bench, not a lot of production. Seven and six for Drummond and uh Kelly Oubre. This is when he just came back, 15 minutes. So he was scoreless over five, but he had six boards, Grimes six, McCain, five minutes , two points in that game uh for that one. So two and one season record for the Sixers over the Orlando. And I think the to me the overarching theme here is that the game they lost, Orlando just had a crazy shooting variance game. The other two games are more normal games for both teams, and the Sixers won those pretty easily. And the Sixers drama in it. Won the second, third, and fourth quarters in this one, holding Orlando to ninety-one points. Like I everything points to they're at home. I think they're a better team and a they match up well with Orlando because I I just don't think Orlando imposes their will on teams like they should for you know the type of team that they've built. I think this is advantage Sixers. I would be really disappointed if they lost this game. Now we can get into some debates. We talked on the pre-game about if you could game it like this, would you rather play the Celtics or the Pistons? And I think we both lean slightly toward the Pistons. The problem is I don't want to be in a one game where you're out with the Charlotte Hornets who as we've discussed in your building they can just bomb away from three, and sometimes there's just nothing you can do about that. That's a style they play and they thrive in. I get it, you'd be at home and like all the pressure would be on the young guys for the Hornets. But I don't want to, I I don't think you can leave it the chance. They're not going to. It's not like they're going to tank the play-in game on Wednesday. But for the people who prefer the Pistons matchup , I hear you and I get it, and I agree with you. It didn't work out that way. But just win the basketball game on Wednesday. That's what you got to worry about. That's right. So with those three games that we just referenced, who played, who was in, who was out in those. Kyle already talked about Vijay Edgecomb. There was another guy that you wanted to talk about, another positional situation where you wanted to talk about, and it's especially important now because of who we know the matchup we'll be with so everyone who regularly watches this show knows I've been a a big critic of Andre Drummond's this year. I think he almost unquestionably has to start in the playing game on Wednesday. One I'm with you. Orlando's a big team, so you're gonna need his rebounding, right? That is one thing that they can potentially punish you with their size if they're aggressive on the offensive glass between Carter, Bancaro, Franz, even like Suggs is big for a like big sturdy dude, like whatever. So Pataze when he taze when he comes in as a depth piece. So Bona has been playing awful to end the season. Like just has not been good the last couple of weeks, and Nurse has gone away from him pretty quickly at times. To me, I think there are two big giveaways that Drummond will start on Wednesday, if I had to guess right now. One, Drummond started the second half after playing better than Bona in the first half. Two, we saw Jabari Walker play small ball five in this game. And I think that is Nick Nurse preparing for the possibility that he might have to turn to somebody other than Bona in the front court, whether that's on Wednesday, whether that's in a playoff series, because Bona has not been good really on either end of the floor lately. I think some of the offensive progress that he showed has all but disappeared. Had a couple of moments where balls thrown at his chest and look, some of them are in tight, tough catches to make, but he's not even like getting close to the ball. He's flinging five foot playups even on the off the rim broadcast. It it was like he's just his hands are not ready. And to Drummond's credit, rebounding well, right? And that's a thing that I think they know they can ro rely on him for. He spaced the floor tonight, made a couple of threes. And just as importantly, in the second half, when they pulled away, he's playing high up to the level on scre ens, and when they're playing pressure defense, he was part of the solution, right? It's not to say that Andre Drummond is going to be stepping out and against the Celtics, like, hey, I'm going to trap Jalen Brown or Derek White or Jason Tatum or whoever it is. But when one of the big criticisms of Andre is he struggles in space and he has moments like that tonight, admittedly against you know AJ Green and Cormac Ryan and different guys, like it's hard to make the case with how a Dem has played and with Andre playing better the last couple weeks that a Dem should start. So I think that's a potential debate in the next few days, but if we're just going off of recent run of form , I think Andre has to start on Wednesday. Totally agree with you. Twelve and thirteen, Andre Drummond finished with tonight off the bench, twenty-two minutes and thirty-one seconds start at the third quarter, uh, as Kyle pointed out in that one. Uh two guys that I to wanted bring up for tonight that could also factor. Well one will certainly factor in in the rotation. That's Quentin Grimes, but the other good game. Well he finished with 20 points on seven for thirteen shooting knockdown, four threes, which is key. Because when he's catch and shoot ready, you know he doesn't need a lot of space and he gets lift. His shot doesn't get blocked because he he is a true jump shooter from behind the three-point line. He was four for six tonight. He also had five assists and three rebounds. The other that could factor in, whether it's a three-minute stint, five because he makes shots, seven because those shots are really falling and he's playing some solid defense. Justin Edwards, yeah. 22 minutes and 30 seconds tonight, six for thirteen, five for eight from three, seventeen points off the bench, two assists uh and uh four steals to our point. Now we again it was the Bucks, but so what? He needed a game like this. Maybe Quentin Grimes needed a game like this, knowing the magnitude of what Wednesday night is going to be. And this stretch this week in general, if they do have to play two games, they are going to have to be able to be ready to go and to come off the bench and be a difference maker as two way players. Yeah. And and the shooting from Justin Edwards is critical because if they're going to do like Kyle pointed out and the ball is in VJ's hands because they're blitzing Tyrese Maxie to get it out of his hand, guys are going to have to make shots. Yep. Justin Edwards is gonna have to make shots. If he is out there, if his numbers called, he has to make shots. So it's good to see that he was able to knock a few down tonight. And when he made those few there in the second half, you could see it as he was as he was squaring up to get ready to take the confident player in the second half of that game. It was not going to be a bad miss if it was a miss. And he he needed that. They both needed this. He has been like the the borderline rotation guy, right? Where he's he's in it, but as soon as Nurse shrinks it down to about eight guys, it's when Edwards is Cyan ara, you're not playing anymore. And it really just comes down to does Justin make shots or not? And within that context, this was a relatively meaningless game to end the season, but it's not a meaningless game for Justin Edwards because when you see all those shots go down two day three days before you're gonna play in a postseason game, gives you just a little bit of confidence. It reminds you some of the big games you've had at this level and at others. You know, the big Boston game early in the year, the big stretch that he had in March in the underman period where Justin is starting regularly, playing with confidence. So if anything is taken from this game, I hope it's Justin being able to bottle that up because whether it's Wednesday against Orlando or in a potential playoff series, they don't have a lot of shooting. So they need Justin and Quentin in their roles off the bench to come in, knock down some open shots because absolutely what the strategy is going to be, no matter who they play, no matter what happens, teams are going to try to make guys who are not named Tyrese Maxie beat them. And so I was happy to see Justin get going today, happy to see Quentin get going today. Focus on exactly what you're here to do. Make shots, one-two dribble attack a closeout. Otherwise, move the ball. And then with Justin, I feel a lot more confident about Quent in as a defender. If Justin is even a passable defender, you take that as a win because he is there to shoot, and that's about it. So really good game for Justin today. Overtime for us here on the PHLY Sixers postgame show. Thank you so much for hanging out with us for all 82 games. We keep it going no matter what. Play-in, playoffs, off-season. We are here. And we thank you on the television side. We'll see you on Monday at 3 p.m. here on the PHLY Sixers podcast. Also, hang out for the remainder of the show at all phly uh dot com. We really appreciate we doubt that we get Derek because there's so much going on at the arena. So that's cool. Uh we'll we'll catch up with Derek tomorrow at 3 p.m. And the other thing too, lastly for me on Justin Edwards is it's you're right on the edge, as you pointed out. You're the one that Nick Nurse is going to. If you don't do it in today's game, is he going to Watford? Is he going to Walker? And you're just out of I don't think Watford Walker would be a guy It was your chance to solidify that if my n if anybody's number is called it's going to be mine and not leave chance for anybody else. That's that's all that yeah. I I don't I don't think it's Watford either. Well, so he gave Watford minutes today in the first half. I honestly I think one of the most surprising things about this game is that they had 11 guys play in the first half. I was expecting maybe not playoff minutes, but a playoff type rotation where it's like eight, nine guys. And early on, playoff rotation. Well in fairness to Doc, he only had like 10 available players. So Nick went to 11 guys in the first half. And as we discussed, I think part of that was that them played poorly. So it's like hey, Jabari at center. It was interesting that Watford played some first half minutes. Maybe some of it is just you got to get him some conditioning here. He hasn't played in a little bit, but nurse has almost completely gone away from Watford, so I'd be shocked if he played in the play-in or in the playoff series unless it goes poorly early and you're looking for a change of pace. So I think this is I mean we'll talk about this the next couple of days. I think they have eight maybe nine guys who you could expect to play, and that's it. Nurse is very much a short rotation. Run through your stars or your in this case, your best players. I don't know how many stars they have at this point. I'm excited to see what Tyrese and Vijay have to offer this week. It's gonna be fun. Absolutely. It's gonna be fun. Absolutely. So Sixers are your seventh seed, everybody. Uh worked out seven: thirty start time in South Philly. Kyle will be there. We'll be here uh for the pre and post game shows. So make sure you tune in, hit the like button, subscribe, comment, tell a friend, spread the word. Postseason basketball is in Philadelphia for sure, at least this week. And uh we will be talking about it here on the show. Also, the great part about the games being in Philadelphia, by the way, as the Sixers put out there, I knew they were going to do this, as the Sixers put out their their uh postseason graphic and start time for Wednesday, you know they're in the uh retro uniforms. You knew they were gonna do that. Yeah. You knew they were gonna do that. Is it going to be the retro sixers versus the pinstripe retro magic. What are they wearing in? I think they're whites. Black versus blue would be tough. Gotta wear the whites , but I don't think that's happening. Gotta wear the whites. But the great part about it is hopefully after Wednesday they win this game uh uh against this uh as Jamie Lynch will say, this Mickey Mouse team. We want to give a shout-out, a special shout out to Matt Court. Oh, yeah. Who is retiring after 28 seasons after this whatever, whenever it ends for the Sixers, Matt Court, Friend to the show, is retiring after 28 seasons. He made that announcement about two weeks ago. And uh it's I can tell you before I even got into this business and just watching the Sixers all my life, when Matt Cord was in the building for those 28 years, and I've gotten to know him for 17 of those, 18 of those years, that he has been a staple in that arena. He has been one of those that your ears just used to a certain sound. And when you're in the Wells Fargo Center, the Core States uh FU Center, all the other different names. And now the Xfinity Mobile Arena, that voice is that sound that you're just used to. And sometimes you can get used to something and it's not always great. You're just used to it. But he was great. He is great. And I'm s I'm so happy that he gets another game on Wednesday. And I hope for his sake that he gets another playoff opportunity with the first round matchup for the 76ers taking on the Orlando Magic. I've known Matt, as I said, for Well, I've been in the business for eighteen years. I've probably known him for about fifteen, fourteen, fifteen of those. And my old place, as you all know on the radio, he was right down the hall. So not only have I known Matt as the PA announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers, I've also got to know him as a friend, as a guy who has given me a lot of advice on the radio in my past. And he's still a friend to this day. And Matt Cord is a great, great man. So all of you who feel one way about Matt and how much you love him and you hear him and all , that's the guy. He is that guy. And he's that way in person. He will give you his time. He will give you his ear. Matt Cord is fantastic. And congratulations to him on 28 years of uh calling 76ers games. I even remember Kyle when he was not there for a couple of seasons. They went right back to Matt. And they were wrong. Yes. They were wrong. And they fixed the wrong and right they righted that wrong by bringing Matt Cord back. So congratulations to Matt. I know you wanted to say some things. Yeah. Well, so I our friend and colleague, Cindy Webster, who I know from my days at WIP, asked for some personalized videos to send to Matt as part of a putting together a nice thing for him. And I'll say what I said in that, I'll say what I've said all along, which is that I've been listening to Matt as that guy since I was a kid going to like really getting into basketball and being passionate about it for the first time. As I grew up with the game, I like I would hear his voice going to g ames and then you become a a member of the media, a professional, all that. And you get to actually meet him. Like you're st I'm still hearing his calls because I'm at all these games. But you get to meet him and know him and like he's done some even outside of the seeing people at the arena saying hello and all that. Years ago now, I think it was probably twenty twenty one maybe when we were all still not in the arena quite yet . The Sixers sent out a thing to some m members of the media and Matt actually did a call where it was like announcing me and a bunch of us. Like this got sent out to different people. And here in Matt do his call in my name for like from Westchester University and all that was yeah really really cool so it's always nice when as you grow up you meet people that you're not going to meet as a child, obviously, but they're part of your life. And then you get to meet them, and the person is just as good as the professional. So obviously, our best to Matt Cord, who's been the best of the best all these years. And I said to him, I don't mean to make you feel old by saying I've been listening to you for all these years of my life, but I'm glad he's gonna get his nights back and enjoy his retirement from this gig as he figures out what he wants to do with all this free time he's got now. Well, make sure you check him out on his radio gig in the morning. That's right. Uh so make sure you check him out there. And uh it's always funny. I will see Matt. Kyle would see him, Derek would see him, uh, he would be in the media room sometimes still going over his notes. Yep. There's some tough names that he has to pronounce. Yes, indeed. And he would sit there at a table by himself reciting names. Sometimes he might say to you, like he has to me, this is how you say his name, right? So well, here's the thing we've had conversations on this show where there are players who get wrong fully called one name and they just roll with it. And so then someone like Matt Court is in the position of what am I supposed to do? Like this is what people call them and they roll with it, but that's not it. Yeah, it's so it's yeah, it's tough. But thank you to Matt Cord for all the uh the memories. Let's hope some more memories are created here in the final stretch. Congratulations , man. Congratulations to Matt Cord. Uh great friend to the show and job well done, man. You have certainly left a uh imprint on the city with your voice, not just on the radio, but certainly inside the arena. We don't take that for granted. We appreciate all the support and all that. Many thanks. Many thank you. Really appreciate it . And this last one is fantastic from Dave on aka School Boy Beats. How does Doc get fired in Philly twice? That is a great question. Well, so did he get fired? I don't know. I mean, I I'm asking an honest question. I don't know that he got fired or he just said, you know what ? Let's mutually decide to part ways always love that. Like if there's ever been a mutual breakup in the history of breakups is always such a funny concept. Yes. But it's a great, it's a great uh yeah, he got let go twice in Philly or his career . His two jobs finished. Two jobs finished in Philadelphia. Yeah. We've said enough about Doc, I think. I said uh, you know, happy trials, Doc. Enjoy the grandkids in the golf course. You had a long NBA, you had a long profession al career and you're going into the Hall of Fame in the fall. Congratulations to you. All right. Sixers win. 126-106. The other important win tonight, the Boston Celtics, eke out a a w win, closein over the Orlando Magic. Final score one thirteen-108. I believe we might have some early lines, by the way, on Sixers Magic. That'd be six five. Sixers have I'm keeping an eye out there. I believe I I'm hearing they the Sixers might have opened as one and a half point favorites, but you might have to double check for me through our friends there. All right. Um that sounds about right. Like they should be favored to win. I honestly am was surprised that it's not more if that is indeed the case. But I think the embi factory go take care. Yeah, I mean if they had embied, I think this would be an easy like four and a half, five. Yeah, probably . One and a half, given that a rookie is one of the most important players in the game and on your team. I guess that's probably fair. Yeah. Yep. Keep an eye on it though. Yeah. Yeah. No question. Um good stuff. I'm taking the Sixers. Say it now. Sorry, it's a one point. Yeah. Oh, it's one point. One point. All right. One point. Not much confidence in the Sixers. It's like a it's an even. It's basically a to the one point essentially says that that's the home team, but we think these are evenly matched teams. You want to take a guess uh for Wednesday? Uh they actually have it Wednesday, but they have the dates wrong, but they'll fix it on Bet three six five. You wanna bet the Charlotte? You want to guess the Charlotte, Miami? So Charlotte at home. Everybody's full strength . Charlotte three and a half. Five and a half. Five and a half. Oh, that's I mean listen, we've talked about the Hornets a lot. Five and a half. They've been one of the hottest teams in the league since the calendar flip to twenty twenty six. I think it's bold. I don't think it's crazy. No. It's really just I respect Eric Spolstra and his ability to engineer some nonsense. And I also think the big knock against Charlotte, and I know we had a few people come in late and say, Am I crazy for hoping that they lose and then they they beat Charlotte or Miami and play Detroit? We get it. We understand that. The variance with Charlotte is one thing. The negative against them is they're all young guys who basically have never been in a game like this before. At least at the NBA level. Plenty of these guys played in high leverage games
