So for non regular listeners, yes, Andy No is a lovely member of our disco community who did some fantastic maths to turn our trivia section into like a proper leaderboard. Well, Andy, you can click back and relax because this week we've got the Quiz Master himself , the man renowned for hosting quizzes all across the country. It is that famous celebrity interviewer. It is from Radio One. Ali Plum, friend of PressX to continue Allie with us in the orgy run and back again ? Yes, here I am returning with some vicious questions about the history of gaming. So it's a broad church we're entering into right now. I hope you know a little bit about everything , but also because this was originally crafted to tie in with the Bafta Awards, gaming awards, of course earlier this year. I hope you're up to date with all the recent successes and who 's been nominated and won in the past. So thank God yes we are no pressure. All you have to be is absolutely excellent and you should be fine. Yeah . No, we know when Ali did this first to a pub full of very excited gaming influencers, journalists and that type . Lots of people that we know that have been on press ini as well and with us regularly. They did it and loved it. So I'm hoping I know the week that we at least long as we beat them , as long as we beat them , that's that's the criteria. But also they were in teams of like five and six. You are operating solo going head to head against each other. You've got whiteboards or tablets in front of you you so can write down your answers and I know for sure you're not hearing someone else give the answer and go yeah yeah yeah yeah that yeah as far as we can manage it it's relatively fair other than your differences in intelligence . That's the only unfair 's what we're worried about. We're not worried about that actually reputation is sort of on the line you're at. But you're not on the line for you while it be gentle with us. And before we get started, we do have some things that we have to sort of stick to here on press ext reme because we're sticklers for the format . And we start every episode with an unsung hero game to get us going on a positive vibe and to reflect and remember something that somebody loves and why and Ali, as we're a guest of honor this week, what is your unsung hero game and why please? My unsung hero game is from twenty twenty two. Do you remember back that fall. twenty twenty two Remember last year? Yeah. How can it be an unsung hero and so recent? But have you guys ever played Marvel's Midnight Suns? You know what? I didn't hop on it. I didn't hop on it. I've got it, but not even booted it up. You have no idea how often when I bring it up people say, Oh yeah, yeah, I did get that. I think it was actually relatively recently sort of a free game through PlayS tation as well . But what this is is a collaboration of the MCU, some of the darker side of the Avengers, runaways , those characters and midnight sons themselves. And so yeah, you take a Marvel Comics property and then you smush it together with a Fire Axis game XCOM style setup and then you turn it into a card battler as well and you've got so much that I enjoy. So if you enjoy Slayerspire or Slay the Spire too, which I can't wait to come out on consoles, not there yet, but I can be patient . This is so addictive . It also has one of those because you're this made up superhero called the hunter and you have to join forces with all these different heroes and sort of maybe antiheroes to battle this bigger threat in a very excy way, it's turn based, but you're playing cards that you collect and tweak and it's sort of it's all the usual stuff you're expecting from a slave despire type game, but you do have to keep making friends with everyone who's in your team . My one weakness for this game, as in like my one little problem with it, is it forces you to constantly have those conversations where you're sucking up to characters saying Do you like chess? I love chess. Here's a random chess piece and then it goes boobing . Deadpool loves you twenty percent more. So if you can give it if you can forgive it that side of things, the gameplay loop is dopamine hit after dopamine hit. It's really enjoyable. I remember zoning out to it in the best possible way. Locked in had a great time. It got well reviewed, which normally doesn't fit in this category, but it just didn't sell. And I think the reason why and stop me if I'm wrong guys because I'm just modern logging is that it seemed to a lot of people like it was a sort of phone game Yeah and actually it's so much better than that and so much more addictive than that. It has four downloadable expansions as well. So it's got lots of depth. The story ain't too bad either. And there are so many people on Reddit I know who found it late and are now like hang on, I want more and you know fire accesses are going should have bought it when it came out . So Marvels Min Light Suns , I love this game. I would happily replay at that so much. I enjoyed it and it's full of characters that you know and love . Some of the facial capture isn't great . I like some of that. But it's actually the actual gameplay is what matters and that's great. I think Marvel Midnight Sun struggled. I think a lot with some of the Marvel video game adaptations recently is it seemed to be a clear lack of overall strategy when it came to advertising and marketing these games. They've done so many interesting different things. The Suicide Squad game was actually quite good and the Marvel Avengers game was actually quite good. But because the way that they sort of marketed them almost separately and not in a thread, people feel like in my opinion, correct me if I'm wrong, people who are into Marvel want to feel like they're part of the grand storytelling, whether they read the comic books, they build up to something or Avengers movies that built up to Infinity, which do you know what I mean? It felt like they were on a journey to get somewhere. But all of these little stand alone experiences that they've released recently are all fine well in and of themselves , but because they don't feel like they're part of something bigger, I wonder if that's why they don't find an audience. Not digging with my mind. Am I making sense or am I talking absolute nonsense? No, you are, you are. I think especially since the cinematic universe was so successful , it's one of those things where it's like, oh, like, is this gonna be an add on to that? No, not really. It's gonna be its own separate thing. And it's like, oh, okay. And it kind of makes people pause to whether they should j likeoin in it or not. But I have heard about the notorious book clubs that you have in that game in terms of you can have book club meetings . Oh, I you realize as you sit down for about forty minutes with this game that you've spent thirty minutes doing book clubs all like I'm sold. This is selling it to me. Minding random things . I need to find someone to talk about Warryn Height . Yes Come on. Wolverine is massively into Jane Austen, so he's cracking through pride and prejudice. No, it's not all that, but it can be a bit of that. The actual battling is brilliant. Like I really enjoy that and it's deck building, which I'm always a sucker for. But in terms of it not being like the MCU, I hear that. But for me, that's part of the appeal. You've got characters like Magic who've seen very briefly on the big screen in a Fox movie, but Blade is in this Robbie Rays. Like there's lot to a lot to enjoy that you wouldn't otherwise see and darker and more subversive, sure . But it's enjoyable if you're really into your MCU and look , Stephana knows this. I recently managed to kick my Marvel Snap addiction last year and I am I'm so happy I've managed to get through the other side well, done me , but this had a really nice ending and I was like, right, that's good. I'm done. And gave me that pleasure and then I could move on to the next thing. So yeah, if you like if you like deck builders, if you like rogue lights, if you like term based stuff, it reminded me occasionally of old school final fantasy , but I just really enjoyed it. So yeah, Marvel's Midnight Suns, if it's chickling, your fancy at all, it's bound to come back up as a sort of three pound like sale thing.
