We'll get into Shinacock Hills If follow me on social media, I think you might know how I feel about this golf course and just All of it just east coast is Whatever. It's annoying. It just bothers me for some reason. We have rediscovered. We have found the Jim Duquet podcast from last week. onn Thursday, we ran at some huge technical problems with Jim and we just we couldn't get it up in time. We didn't play it It is still relevant today because we talk a lot about what is missing kind of from the Mariners in terms of trades in terms of what they want to do looking ahead to the rest of the season, the piggyback situation, six man rotation. So a lot of it still applies and we I edited down. We're going to play it coming up here shortly. Bill Kruger, it is a long extended visit with Bill Kruger as we recorded every single Monday morning And it's a good one. We We go like damn there forty minutes. So we'll try to get to that as soon as we can and get it played for you. Dress the again, not a fan of the piggyback. We've discussed that before They didn't play good baseball this past weekend. We do. I've got to figure out and we'll get to in just a second about Rob Rfnyder but I just I don't understand from this organization what what they are trying to do with Rob Rf Snyder. I don't know. I don't even think Rob Rf Snyder knows No go to guy today. He is off. He's playing hookie. He's playing golf with his buddy. You know, the work ethic of the go to guy off the charts.. We love him. He'll be back there on Wednesday's show. Big thanks to Bates Roofing who bring you Jim all the time here on the Daily Puck job, alsoso a clean streak there as well. But he'll be back there on Wednesday. This is the last full week of shows for us for me, I should say We will do a show next Monday But then we're off. I'm off for about ten days. We're taking the taking the teenage daughter over to Spain. She's doing a summer internship Over there for a soccer club FC Barcelona, you might have heard of them pretty good deam. So we'll be taking her out there and then visiting the country there of Spain. So no shows. I'm not pulling a Mitch Levy trying to do shows while I'm on vacation with my family. See, here's the difference between Mitch and I I like my family And they like me That's the difference So no, I'm not doing a show. I'm gonna go enjoy myself and enjoy my vacation. So just to give you a reminder, Next Monday will be our last show for about ten days or so. All right. Mariners that Weke can stumble. want to get into that. We're going to talk U S open golf. And again, it's a broken record when it comes to this place because every year every time they've had it there It's always remembered for something else other than just the golf course every single time And just Why do they keep coming back Let's get to the Mariners here quickly and then I want to I want to touch in here on Eraldus Chapman. They stumble over the weekend I don't see anything becausecause I was I as a Father's Day gift to myself The family did eventually come, but I got at least one day by myself. I said, I'm going out into the woods for a while just to kind of get away. And I'm going to tell you, you might have had a great Father's Day weekend and I hope everyone had a great Father's Day too all the dads out there. in case you missed our Friday show with myself, Jim and Chris, we interviewed their kids or I sat down with their kids. big thanks to Matdty Austin Luke Egan for sitting down also to Brook Mikey and Stevie Moore for sitting down there as well. It was fun. If you didn't catch Friday S show, I get it's Friday. It's a weekend. peopleeople Friday shows usually don't do great anyways. is because people are done and they're not paying attention to shows or podcasts or whatever Go back and watch it or listen to it. It's fun. It's fun to hear those three kids on both sides talk about their dads. It and if you're a dad or don't even have to be a dad, I think you'll you'll get a lot out of it. you'll tear up a little bit. I'll headit at the emotional heartstrings They' from Friday show I'm going to tell you no one had a better view than what my view was this weekend for Father's Day. No, no one Look at that thing. Now, if you're just listening to this, you're like, why I can't see it. You gott to go back and watch the video. But that was my view This weekend staring out at a beautiful pristine lake. Right on the shores in the Winache Okinaga and Winache National Forest. Now, I'm not going to tell anybody where that's at. Be here's the deal It's my little gyem that I have found years and years ago. and I know I should probably tell people and people know where it's at because people go there. But if I tell more people, I tell you where this is at. then you're going to go there. And then you're going to tell other people to go there And it's kind of a hassle to get to anyways And know, it's a, you know, kind of off the beaten path and driving and then you got to hike up into it. I don't want people to know where it where it is. And you can guess all you want and I'm never going to tell you forre close or rightide. But that was my living room That's just beaut tellelling you, maybe you're not a camper. if you if you aren't, I feel bad for you because you should be We live in just one of the most beautiful freaking states in the world in the country and really beautiful spots in the world And if you get into it, go out, grab a backpack, get outside and get out there. Look at that. L at the look at Ald do the Superdog. Maples' somewhere resting, not in that picture, but Alder the Superdog. canan't get enough. So my weekend was great. I missed all the baseball, went back and watched or listed the highlights of everything there on Sunday and and all of it and they stumble at least they avoid the sweep there by the Red Sox. I will say Logan Gilbert. there was a little different gear to Logan Gilbert on Sunday, I thought whether he was using more of that for seam or what the he joked afterwards Dad strength. I don't know what it was, but he just He had a different gear. He looked fantastic there on Sunday. And so good signs there for Logan Gilbert who is You know, it was kind of spinning the wheels the beginning of the season a little bit for him feeles like he's kind of rided the ship Last two outings with Cal Raleigh have been fantastic. I think you got to get a lot of credit to the veteran, the team captain Cal Raleigh for especially how all these guys have looked, but especially how Logan has looked here in the last two starts. So huge positive there is to avoid the sweep Stay up in the AO West. It's not a good division. They are banged up beyond belief. I mean, I have never seen a team have this many positional injuries like nagging stuff too, not not serious stuff but nagging stuff You see in the offense dip We get into that Kruger and I get into it. He's got a You know, I think you point to the absence there of Randio Rosara, and I think just a Rosarena not being there just tells you almost everything you know about who the offensive NVP this season has been, and that's been Rando Rosareinna for the club And So Gilber grade The Dom Can zone. it's just on a day in which he finally gets a start against a left hander. By the way, hit three hundred against Lies last year in limited time, but notot only hits a home run, hits its opposite field, plays great defense thenen of course gets hurt That's just how this season has gone for the Mariners guy has ounce of success and immediately gets hurt Hammstring issue. I would imagine. I know he said it's not that serious afterwards. Same thing they said about a Rose arena. It's not that serious and then he lands on the IL. I bet you. he goes on the IL In fact, I don't even even check mayaybe it's they've already announced. I don't know. but I would venture to say and I would bet money that we'll see them there on the iner list. But I think it just goes back to what we have talked about myself, Jim, weve brought it up with Bill. I don't get the whole pig not piggy backack I don't get the obsession with platooning. I know it's the way baseball. I know, they've got numbers and everything that backs you up. att some point, though you've got to trust the player. And I think these guys when he does come back need to start trusting Dom Cam'sone more against Lefies. And I would say the same thing honestly about Luke Railly as well. They need to start trusting these guys more and really it's more of a I mean, they play a part to it It's more of a commentary on what they are putting out there in place of them We're almost at the halfway point of the season, with three games away, I believe Rob Rf Snyder has been a disappointment Is Rob Rsider a bad player? No, just the four years previously more of a sample size and what we've seen over seventy nine games. abbsolutely in which he has been very, very, very good against left hand pitching He's not this year Well it's the injury Go to a new team Something else going on in his personal life. we don't know about. He's not having a good year How much long are they going to hold on to him to see if he can get out of it? I don't know. What I do know is that Friday night was an organizational, I use this term with Kruger that you'll hear later. organizational malpractice I have all I've had to listen to for the last decade and I get and makes sense. I have a different view how I would set a line about. I'm an idiot, so my view is probably terrible. I like certain guys hitting lead offff, this guys hitting two, guy hitting three, guy hitting four. Cal Raleigh would be my cleanup hitter As far I as making out the line of, Thank God andk thankful to all of you fans. I'm not making the line up I get hitting guys at the top of the order. You you want your best players getting more at bance. Fine. Why is Rob R Snyder hitting lead offff I want someone in that organization to explain to me or the reporters there to Jude, to Divish, to Daniel Kramer, Shannon Draay, whoever Why do you put your worst hitter at the top of the lineem I didn't even look if he has got great numbers against Juarez. mayaybe he does. I don't care. He's not having a good season. You want to play him and platoon them and get him. fine But don't give me this well, we want to get we hit him leadoffs to get him going and more at bats. He doesn't deserve any more at bats Why would you rob someone who's more deserving of at bats to lead you off than Rob Ruffsnyer Again, you want to play them You want to be married to this platoon, fine Maybe you get it going. you don't bat him leadoff and this is not the first time they've done this They've done this multiple times with him and it honestly is organizational malpractice to h him lead off. It's just awful. I saw that from Friday. I laughed. Like what are they doing There so many other options. I don't know, move hul you up for a game. Hit them lead off. He's done it before I know he's not having a great season. Victor Roblus is a better leadoff hitter than him Hell C you got Cole Young in the lineup, don't you? You trust him to hit lefties hit him lead offff I mean, he' got a great you know where I stand. I didn't want him moved off the leadoff spot when JP came back They they just they do some things and it is mind boggling at times some of the decisions that they will make when it comes To him in particular trying to get him going because that's to me is what they're they're just trying to get him going And if we hit them lead off, we'll get him more at batch. we'll get more pitches to see Meanwhile, this isn't spring training It's not a Back field game against the B team for the Padres, it's Major League baseball No business hitting lead off for the for the team. All right. We're going to play the interview from Duquette on Thursday coming up and then we're going to get to Kruger and I'm going to play a soundbite there as well. coming from Jim Bodden who does the show with our guy Jim Duquet as well because they had a peace over the weekend talking about some trades and I'll play for right now. This is from their show. Jim Boden and Jim Duket talking about some fits. Now one of them I agree with other one, not so much, but it's it's a packaged a trade proposal that they mention. But it's an name that we brought up last week that a lot of Mariner fans got upset about. and that was Oraldus Chapman. One person in particular said, hey, they acquire Raldus Chapman. I'll stop being A Marinerss fan here's Jim Bd and Jim Duquette from their show. the front office show that airs on Sirius XM If I'm the mariners, I gott to be thinking out of the box. I mean, go get a roll this Chapman and Duran from the Red Sox. What would be the price there? Chapman I might I might give you Sloan for both of them. You give me Chapman and Duran. I may give you Sloan. 'use I might win the World Series if I make that trade if I'm Seon. That's a big price, man. And if I'm boston boy, that's your future, you got to go you gott to go. You'd have to go do it. Just throw it out there. Just throw it out Okay, so he mentions Duran there as well I guess the thought behind it because of the situation of the outfield just adding more depth. But again, it's a guy that hits left hand. you know, he's a lefty and this is a team, which is funny because two years ago they had no left hand hitters. Now they've got too many left hand hitters. 's just the way I guess things work out Duran I'm lukewarm on Duran Now I'm scolding hot and would love to see Eald this Chapman. I think Eald this Chapman is exactly what this team needs In addition, if they can go find a right handed bat. Also at the market at the trade deadline. Adam Jud did a nice job of kind of detailing that in the paper today as well, but they're names that we've heard before. We talked about sayzuzuki a couple of weeks ago Matt Chapman. We've talked about him third baseman there for the giants. So there are guys out there with contracts that they could maybe pair Louis Castillo with. Now Ryan Sloan for Raldes Chapman Some people will will will scoff at that. I's it's a big price to pay But it's a price that everyone would be willing to take if you think a Ral this Chapman is going to be a key figure to win you a World Series. Here's why You have to go get someone like Chim And we'll get into his pass because people don't want him here in Seattle because of what happened is passed. if you don't know, we'll get to it from about ten or eleven years ago We all love Andreres Muno's and this will be something I'm going to repeat to Kruger that you're going to hear later. We all love them I don't know what's going on with him But he scares me at the end of games And he really is going to scare me when they get into a big game. notot a game that takes place on june twentieth or in the nineteenth or the eighteenth, when Seems like he hyperventilates or panics on the man in Baltimore or against Baltimore where they have the infield. everyveryone's got to come in and talk to them. I just ask anyone to close your eyes and think about how he would be game seven to clinch a World series or game seven or any clinching game cl clinching ALCS Do you have a lot of confidence in him? I don't know right now. I would be like I I'm fifty, fifty becausecause everything hinges on his confidence level His ability to slow things down. I mean, you look at him out there and he's just out of breath and he's and and he's panting. He looks nervous to me a lot There's no doubting his stuff. He's got some of the nastiest stuff in baseball, the fastball, this slider, It's just it's nasty. But it all comes back to a confidence level with him. When he walks out of the mound, when you're close, you're trying to clanse something. you've got to be the baddest mofo out there I don't see it with him at times I don't see I see a guy that As a cat you know, and I'm saying this mockingly and we love the story of this cat. I don't want my closer with the cat. I want my closer with the frreaking pit bull Ready to rip your head off. He doesn't scream, I'm going to rip your head off to me Chapman does. now and again, I'm using that with and we'll get to his domestic violence is issues here, but He has it and he's got post seiesason experience. When Chapman comes into a game, you are fearful of him I don't know if you're fear of Munyoos. I really don't I think adding Chapman is a great insurance policy for this organization. something they need to desperately look into. Now I brought it up last week and a lot of people justponded to say, I don't want them now with his domestic violence past and one person even saying I'll stop being an Amerin's fan. I think people say that a lot. I think they wouldn't be Amerin's fan. I asked him are you a Sawks fan? He said no, he didn't understand why that was relevant. It's relevant because I think we pick and choose our battles sometimes as sports fans because we're hypocrites and it's okay to be hypocrite It's okay You know, even the last few years, I've come Well more than the last few years, I've come to realization that listen, I cannot like someone personally on a team, but at the end of the day, they're not You know, they're not poster boys. They just aren't I got to stop I got to stop caring about what happens off the field and just care about what happens on the field becausecause that's all they're there for is on the field. their're widgets. That's all they're just the replaceable players. Can that person help you win I think back to Frank Clark for the Sks. He was a good football player, Real good football player that helped this team win. I didn't likeank Frank Clark. I didn't understand people' obsession with Franklarkke. Franklarkke was a bad guy off the field. It was J was he assaulted his girlfriend She didn't press she ended up not pressing chararts because she was scared, just like probably the situation with Raald this chapman. I don't have to like Frank Clarkke, but it was a good football player. yeah. I don't have to like Ealda's chapman But is the guy that you put in your bullpin can help you win? Yeah I think you have to It's hard, but you got to separate some of the stuff and even SeAwks and I know this is a Marinnerers thing, but you know, listen, there's a lot of people here in town that love Richard love Richard Sherman. loveo him. and maybe some Ameran fans out there who are SeAw fans who say I don't want Chapman, but are willing to stand up and can't wait to shake Richard Sherman's hand. Well, that makes you a hypocrite A big time hypocrite Huge. But again, we we come back and we say sports, fans are all hypocritical. We all are He did not face criminal charges. It was back in twenty fifteen. He allegedly had choked and pinned his girlfriend down at the time in twenty fifteen. She alleged that he shoved and pinned her down. He says that he just poked her on the shoulder He denies he assaulted her. He does admit 'use he went into his garage, into his car and shot a gun into the wall of his garage. He did admit he did that pololice declined and press charges They declined it because of conflicting statements. from her and associates around Chapman. and now again, I'm not saying that they are lying. this is similar to kind of with Clark's girlfriend They don't want to get the guy in trouble. So they all right, Nothing happened He was suspended thirty games by Major League baseball for their personal conduct policy If you just look on it at the field, what can he do on the field? There is no doubt that Eraldus Chapman can help this baseball team. Okay It just is and he would be a perfect fint for them in the bullpin. They need bullpin help. all right. I'd be yay on it. But again, I understand people that are nay on it I get it If you can't separate off the field from the field, that's your prerogative. And if you don't want him, then you don't want him. But we'll see how active he's going to be out there. He's going to be You got to bid for him, whether it involves Ryan Sloan or somebody like that I wouldn't touch Kate Anderson. I don't know. That's a tough call for me. I mean, I think we'd have to involve more than just Chapman if you're giving up sloan, but I think it's interesting. We're going to get to Jim Duet just a quick second and the Bill Kruger coming up after that. I do want to get to Sinnacock real quick I' just telling you and I know like you people from these Cast and Mitch will get all mad about this, but I'll say it I'll repeat what I said to Mitch last week. If Chhinacok were on the West Coast, it would never, ever, ever come back. And if it wasn't one hundred plus years old, it'd never come back Because the last three times they have gone to that golf course There is the storylines on Sunday night, Monday and morning aren't about the golf course. Being great The two previous times were how bad the setup was, how bad the conditions of the course was, how bad the greens were. I mean, they're basically on fire They're unplayable. the last two times, it was unplayable. But it's a great course though, because it's been there for one hundred and fifteen years because it's got a great clubhouse. because you want to know why it's great? because it's in New York. That's why it's considered great. because it's one of the five original courses, the USGA. That's why Just I would ask, what's the signature hole? What's the signature sequence of holes? What's the best thing about the course? It's certainly not the views because they'd pan out and you'd show the views and it flat and looks like nothing Nothing great about it. And then of course yesterday, Thunday, what's the top storyline? Not the course Cours ital It's about the fan behavior because they're idiots out there. They're absolute idiots And this is not just a south, you know, longong Island New York thing. There's a lot of golf fans these bros with their, you know, three inch shorts And their're sunglasses And their hats, they're just morons sccreaming every time they're in a backs swing, sccreaming mashed potatoes, all the stupid BS crap that they they shout out screaming, cheering for his ball the roll off the green and do not compare this to other sports. It's not the same thing. This isn't football, this isn't basketball, this isn't baseball. There's a different set of rules, fan behavior decore in the sport of golf that is different than the other sports That's what makes it unique and that's what makes it differentnce And when you've got fans out there you can open the cheer for Scott Scheffler. Ain' nothing wrong with that. They wanted to see Scheler win. I get it. He's fun And he had a chance to complete the career grand slam But when a guy's ball rolls off the green or he hits it and you cheer or he hits it into the rough, you cheer. It's obnoxious. makes us look bad and it's a it's a common behavior out there in that area of the country all the time, and that's the storyline today It's not about Wndham Clark, N not about the great shot he hit on sixteen, It not about the incredible lag putty hit on eighteen Or all the Par saves he have all day long Or it's him having to deal with a bunch of twenty three year olds who are just idiots yelling at him the whole time Multiple arrests, guys escorted off the course, But yet, we're going to go back there. Ye after year after year after year. why? Because it's in New York, because it's one hundred plus years old. There's nothing great about that golf course. notothing. when you I went listen I'll put my viewing of golf and like the golf channel and live from up against anyone When your prevailing topic all week long The golf course is the wind What's that to do with the golf course They talked more about the wind than the actual golf course It's just an east Coast bias that they are the USGA is so fixated on those golf courses out there. They've got to be a part of them. It's going to be part of the rotation I think it's coming back in thirty something thirty one thirty two. It's just it'll keep coming back The guy Mike Juan who runs the USGA he, Well, there's just, you know, we're giving up so much money by playing it out there Because we have to because it's historical, because it's old. That's the only reason they're there. because it's old. million other courses that are better looking than that course Last auto Wndham Clark Doesn't excuse what he did at Oakwan a year ago Do doesnn't excuse his behavior at all. I mean, he's a He's not a likable figure I don't like, personally, I don't really likeem I didn't want him to win. I needed Tommy Fleetwood to win, but whatever But what he had to put up with all day long of listening to fans, cheer for bad shots and stay in his little bubble and win that and his shot. I mean the shot on sixteen is s incredible Ver he might be the only guy can pull that off. Incredible shot. An eighteen that put with everything on the line, not an easy lag put. hats off to him. He's a sensational golfer. All right We found that we uneth the Jim Duquet from last week. We couldn't play it on Thursday. It was technical difficulties. But we' talked a lot about Eraldus Chapman. That trade topic came up and just where the state of the marriage' at right now. We've edited down So we're going to play Jim Duquette Rody by Fat stick pub and then we'll get to Bill Kruger, old school baseball. and it's a lengthy one with Bill Kruger today. But up first, Jim Duquette MLB Network radio, Sirus exXiM If it's fun you desire, it's fun, you're gonna get at Flatstick Pub. Visit them at flatstickpub. com Well, it's time to talk our national baseball storylines and we do with our guy. He is Jim Duquet. He is R GM MoB network radio sererious XM. He's all brought to you by Fat stick Pub Flat stick Pub great spot to go catch the Mariners game. go to the World Cup too. We got World Cup action That's a great spot too, especially their location down there in Pioneer Square. that and now allows kids So you want to get in there early with your kids, grab a pike, grab some great pizza and great food. and then of course I'll watch all the games, Mariners Games, World Cup, all the action there at flat stick pub. All right, Jim Duquet, we've got the car version of Jim. Jim's off to doing some coaches some fourteen new baseball you want intensity that that thirteen fourteen you circuit. That's maybe is about as intenseive baseball maybe you will get. So we We appreciate you you carving out the time. We'll talk some national storylines, but first let's get into the Mariners U before we get to the six man stuff and the piggyback and everything they're doing with the rotation have you seen in recent memory injuries like this like a team like this has had like they're not serious injuries, but they're a lot of just these nagging injuries to every single position player they have on their team It's so it is really rare to see this type of stuff, right? We see Julio and you know the most recent one is Julio. But you know, obviously with Crawford being out and obviously Raleigh was out for a longer period of time. They've had a number of different injuries like you talked about. and it is really hard to to you know, get on any type of consistent run, you know, when your your main guys, most of your guys are down or out or whatever. So yeah, this has been a bad phase of of bad luck. I think that maybe the silver lining is you haven't had long term injury list of issues like we've seen with Houston as an example. There are other teams that have had longer term injuries, but still they they do take a toll on you and you, I think it kind of speaks to, you know, do you have good depth on your roster or not just kind of amazing and again a lot of it is because of their division that they are still right now leading the division, you know, up by game just because of the the play behind them. but you're just kind of waiting. I mean, They're a lot like I guess maybe the Blue Jays in a way too. like you get healthier and you start playing a little bit better and then all of a sudden the talent that everyone projected in the beginning of the season now starts to come to fruition All right, over to the pitching staff. what's the league take on what the Mariners are doing? Is it Looked at is like they're crazy. their trendetters. What is it? I mean, it is a good problem to have that I would think every other team in baseball would like to have six starting pitchers, but what's everyone's take on it Well, I think, you know, the people I talk to and certainly just watching it from afar, you know, I think that the you know, the stretch where they were doing the piggyback, it seemed a little choppy. although it did sound like they've had they did have more communication with it out of the gate which which you know was part of the criticism. There wasn't all peopleople weren't completely sure about the communication. Certainly the way some of the pictchers acted, it didn't seem like they were being communicated with. But if they were a part of the process and they kind of bought in and understood this then certainly, I think that's the better way to go and I think it needs to be corrected a little bit. So I know I was critical of it at the time when maybe that's not the case. I think that's the way a lot of people felt. You know as we start to get more information out there, o, they did they were a part of this decision making, then feels a little bit better. I think the other part of this is like there aren't many teams that could get say, I got six guys that can go out there and shut out a team on a nightly basis. The Mariners have that. You know, And so you know, you're trying to play that that long game for a period of time. The Dodgers do it really, really well And I think that, you know, the mariners that because it's still its infancy, you know, takes it takes a lot of time to look at this, you know from a pitching side and work through some of these issues. I think once they figure that out, if the, you know, six men stay in this guard in this way, I think you can do it. Dodgers are doing it because of Otani and Yamamoto and You know, they've got guys that are accustomed to pitching over, you know, once a week. So it's a little different for I think the mariners in the sense that this is still a little bit of a novelty Jim, what do you think the long term play is here? They said they'll reevaluate it after after the break? Is it to keep it this way? Are they dangling one of these pictures at the deadline? What do you think This might be the year that we see them make a trade. just because There are so what you know, and we talked about this last week in terms of, okay, what it would be the acquisition U you know, what, okay, what relievers could you go out go out and get? And, you know, there's still a few that most of them the GMs that I still talk to home I think I've talked to twenty of them now. they're still saying it's it's stalled. There's not, you know, everyone's just in that cealing out mode, but can do major Lague for major Lague traits you know, and that's where, you know, we don't see as many of those, but you will see, you know, a a couple teams match up. if someone needs a starter,, you know, and for maybe it's a, you know, a couple of relievers or maybe it's a maybe it's a a position player. So you know, I think I think we have to look at it maybe from that lens a little bit too and see if there's a way that they could move one of their starters. you know Castill is the one I've always been talking about. hisis name gets brought up a fair amount. Obviously they want they would want other teams want Kirby. They're not Aarans aren't doing that. They want Gilbert. I'm watching Gilbert the other night like you're know, you're not moving that. Well, you know Jerry Dapoto You know him very well. He likes to be a differentifferent He kind of wants, I think that set himself apart from other GMs and people in baseball. He wants to be an outlier I think I think part of what his grand scheme could be potentially. One is he has a good problem with six pictchures I think once he gets into the postes post season he knows He's really going to use what three guys, three starters four. Maybe probably three. Okay. Okay, three maybe four. But then he's got these other guys. So let's say he uses three. Well, then he's got three other starters that now they have had this whole half of season used to this piggyback roll where they they now come in and give them even more weapons in the playff.. That's what I think the long term thing is here. If they can all stay healthy. if they all stay healthy and there's six of them. I think I think that's kind of the strategy. And I think if it if it works out that way if it pays off Boy, it's going to be something where every team's going to try to look to doing something like that, but you've got to have The horses, right? Not every organization has six guys like the Mariners do Y, I think your point on that too. And we've seen this in certain circumstances you know, when it comes to, you know, well, I mean, even in some of those long postseason games, Gilbert had had to come in and out of the bullpen, right And I think it was against the Tigers, you know, you see, you know, periods of that last year with the Mariners but throughout the league over the last seven or eight years if you going to look at how the post season' gone. I mean, the Dodgers classic example. They'll go they went to their starters in game six. they went to their starters in game seven. It was kind of a winner take all. but I think you know, to your point, you're seeing these starters being used in bullpen situations. Well, they've got weapons that they can use obviously with their starters in using all those guys, Jim They can also turn their attention to the trademarket and a name that has come up here recently fromr your colleague, your coworker, Jim Boden, He wrote this in the athletic. O of course you and Jim do the GM show on Sundays, the front office show on Siries XM And Jemed had wrote that hey Mariners are two things they're looking for one to get healthy to some back end bolp and help and mention the name Oal this chapman? I am all in on a roll this job, and I just get all of it. I want all of it What what? I mean, obviously he is going to be someone that A lot of teams are going to want and are going to be desirous to go get What's the market look for him? How aggressive can you be to go get somebody somebody like that? And what type of fit is that for the Mariners and for their post season run See, it's a perfect fit. You know Jim and I have talked about this too on our show on Sunday. And the reason why it is if you go back and remember when the Rangers won the World Series, part of you know, their bullpen was in shambles and their big part of their run was theyve traded for Rs Chapman. Now Chapman had an up and down season at that point and at one point he wasn't even in the end of the bullpen for Bruce Boachci when they won the World Series, but he helped them get there He's he's even better than that now. He's changed and improved. I mean throws more strikes. likeike that's the ideal guy. Now if you go back to that traade originally The guy that Kansas City got back in return was a pitcher named Cole Reaggins and he was Cole Reaggins is a really good starting pitcher who's had some health issues and that was one of the reasons why Texas, you know, trade him. But that's the type of package that I think if you're in the Red Sock shoes You know, they have Garrett Wetlock that could slide right into that role. They could do some they could do, you know, potential. there could be someone off the Major League team if they, you know, really wanted to do this for Chapman potentially. I don't know Seattle if Jerry would go for something like that, but I think it would be more of a prospect, you know, or two and and a pretty good prospect and that in that vein., you know, now the only guy that I'm not looking Okay Kade Anderson, I'm definitely not moving You have to look at some of the other guys in that, you know, I don't have the the the depth chart for their for their prospects in front of me. But, you know, I certainly if it was going to be a guy that of let's say a Cole Reagan's type, it have to be a pitcher at the upper levels I'm out I'm not doing that if I'm Jerry Good luck. Well, happppy belated happappy Father's Day, do you You's got a fight Thank you Chance to sit back and watch the Mariners's baseball there on Sunday. They avoid this sweep, but overall it was not a good series there against the Boston Red Sox and their're three and three in in their last six since we last spoke. The floor is yours, Bill Kruger, you take it anywere where you want to go What sticks out to you Well, I think what is notable is there there there's a couple of things going on, Besides decision making around pitching Is there offense since the ten two loss or the ten two win against Washington They've gone Uh games over that stretch and they scored twelve runs And what's really noticeable about date is that's the game that Randy Ros Ainna went down with a hamstring inury. And they just had not been the same squad since he left. Now they lose Ry two days later and that really tore a hole in their offense Um, And you're scoring one and a half runs a game I don't know there's any pitching that can overcome that The fact that you go three and five over that stretch pretty good pitching, I'd say But their offense is just in tatters, you know, they had Crawford out for some games. they lost Rodriguez for a little bit They got Raleigh back, which was, you know, a big boost Cow's return. I mean his numbers have not really deviated from when he left. I mean, he's He's had eighteen play appearances. He's three for eighteen, no extra base hits. He's punched out seven. He has walked six times. He's driven in two runs, no extra gase hits one one sixty seven Now it's very short stretch since the sixteenth of June that he's come back Um He looks he looks the same. He looks Pullin Balls foul you know, a little bit of chase over the top line, chaseing the bottom line Not a good two strike approach, trying to pull everything cow right now. I mean, is it is it is there still an overhang from injuries Is it just timing and just getting back to playing? Perhaps, I hope so Um but he just hasn't really been able to really get it going. So I mean, swing the back good A A. got a lot of Fast buls in the middle place to hit probably U, but here you go p's a little bit different than People have kind of sorted them out a little bit. All right at least for this season. Let's go back how the season started for him. Are you seeing something that was similar to the very beginning? becausecause when when he got here, yes, he struggled There was like a two to three week stretch before he got injured where it seemed like he had turned it around it was Cal Raleigh of a year ago As he Are you not seeing any of that is this this is reverted back to how we started the season And then how much does this compare and contrast? to what he was last year because I think the average fan myself included, I can't pick up on the things that you can pick up on So I'm just curious what are you seeing specifically that is not allowing him to enjoy the success offensively that he had a year ago? Well, he did have a good stretch where he hits the home runs, but outside of that stretch he just hasn't swung the bat good. He hasn't looked like the same the same hitter. He hasn't been the same Now the to tore the league up you know, where he was getting baseballs and depositing them in the seats on a regular basis. andh It wouldn't matter if it was left handed right handed. He had a good Hit a lot of offspeed pitches last year. He hasn't been able to really hit the offspeed pitch this year and B beating with the fastball, right hand or left handed Above the line And it gets deep in the county looks kind of sunk Um Now he has walked six times. It's a little it's a little hard to figure out because He swings off the plate, but yet he's walked six times. So it's kind of hard to sort of sort out where he is, but He clearly doesn't have And ye I think What I saw with him when he had a better stretch. Now I did hit some home runs is he was a little bit more up the middle of the field. And what I'm seeing now and what we saw early is the interest only in trying to pull the baseball Trying to hit the ball in the ballpark, trying to slug. and trying to be really intentional by trying to pull it. Um I can't really sort out his mechanics because it's hard to take snapshots all the way along He's vulnerable on the ball above the hands Hell he'll chase off off the bottom of the strike zone and he has to he wants to pull So those are things that just jump off the page L J when you watch a head Sorry. I'm thinking Jim more, but you're so much smarter and better looking than Jim I apologize for saying Jim But Bill these are things that he's that these are things that he's always dealt with, right He's always been susceptible to that. High fastball or chasing things off the plate and striking out But it's just more pronounces here That would just the I guess obvious follow up to that would be Do you think part of of twenty twenty six Cal Raleigh is that he's feeling the pressure just to follow up what he did a year ago I don't think I think it's impossible not to say that that's part of it Imossible You know, I think it's human nature to say to yourself, you know, I got to get it going. I got to be that guy. I got to be, you know The guy was last year. Why wouldn't I be? I mean, I did it last year. Why can't I do it again Um, I think there's a little bit of that going on. He is a slugger his his career average is like what two twenty Something like that He's hit thirty homers on a few occasions and of course hit sixty last year And you know, he's been a good rut producer but never a guy that hit for high average always had a lot of strikeouts h and then just was a durable catcher that could leade the team and do a lot of the things you love about A guy behind the plate now with standing hitting sixty home runs. And I think he's really trying to tell himself, be a team player, go out play your game Things will fall in place. But in watching him hit He's so eager to pull the baseball that I think he needs to give himself a better chance by staying up the field up the middle of the field a little bit more And I think that would really help him to recognize pitches and see them a little longer. and just let his power take care of itself That would be my suggestion as I watch him hit hard to say what the timing mechanism is is. You know, he pulls a lot of baseballs file already in the count sccreaming balls down down the right or left field line that are foul But we watched them do that all season long So the only thing I can think of is I mean, is I see a guy that's ripping balls valve I know that I can If I can plant the ball in and let it pull the ball foul, I've set the hook for the outside part of the plate with something soft and then I know from the template that I have from watching him over the series and over the year and over what they've told me and that I'm an opponent that doesn't see him every day that he's vulnerable above the hands So I know those two things So I can only say that earning the count or late in the count or whatever part of the count it is, he needs to stay up the middle of the field and give himself a better chance with all pitches. see the ball a little bit longer and let the power just happen, not try to force the Power Let's I want to move on to some roster moves they made. and I guess it would involve In a way, Cal Raleigh. they they decide to send Pereta down And there was always there has been a discussion, not keep three catchers, a discussion. mayaybe they would have DFA Rob Rf Snyder. They did not. So Garvers' the backup catcher. You still have got now Rf Snyder to use in a platoon situation. Did you agree with that move to send Pereadea out? I did because they have an option with parreda Bid is the less experienced receiver. This is a team built on pitching at defense Garber's a little bit better at handling the staff Um, I think that, uh made it the right decision, plus If anything were to happen to Cal or Garver for that matter, you got paradea playing it every day And he needs to play I know that doesn't sit well with him When he's hitting one hundred points higher and slugging and and on base much more than Garver is He just did better He'n' really a better. catch and a better player. I mean, I just said that Garver is there to play defense, but yet Bade is probably a more capable catcher, better thrower, just a more agile guy, better hitter And yet he has to go down U, Garver gives them kind of a spot guy that can hit against left hand of pitching. Um And he's just better better with working with the staff. So I think that was the right thing to do now as this thing plays itself out. The thing is if you bring parade up, he plays what Once a once a week. I mean, uh And you got R Snyder and they keep wanting him to get him going, right? Get him going, get going. get him going and he hasn't gotten it going I mean, he's had a hit here and there, but he still looks Again another guy that hits that tries to pull everything. Now whether that's because he had success hitting the monster and Fenway Park. I don't really know But you know, he gets beat in, he gets beat on breaking balls. He tries to pull everything, you know, if he gets to a count where he's got his count in his favor, he's gotten a couple of hits, but that's it. He hasn't produced. He hasn't given them what they're looking for, that's for sure How much longer since you brought them up do you stick with Bob Rf Snyder? I mean, we're pretty close. We're a few games away. from being halfway point of the season and he hasn't got it going. And I understand their strategy of wanting to use a inepal dounon situation He's had great success against left handers in his career. specifically last year But it is not work this year But do you just keep rolling them out there or What would you do of Rob Rf Snyder if you were in charge of the Mariners Right now, they're so banged up that you know, in the outfield, I don't know what you do Um, watching watching Connor Joe play left field. Wow, that wasn't very good, wasas it It was not good at all That was a box So you know, I can't I can't even think about playing him in the outfield. Rlebays a little bit shaky in the outfield. You know, R Nnight's been okay. He's not like he's all big shakes in the outfield, but a veter outfield play the field can play right field Um So that's important right now when you're short in the out field, right? And you have to keep telling yourself that the four years that he compiled We're not afot. that somehow some way, whatever he's been the last four years going to return And the meantime, they hover around five hundred. They continue to leadave the division and they continue to win without scoring runs. If they just got a little pulse offensively, you can kind of Except A little bit of not so great from Rob Rf Snidder, but they haven't been able to do anything at all because they are Re thaned up. O main guy in the middle of the lineu, let's be real is Randy O Rosarina because it's been a serious drop off since he stopped playing. And now you got Canzone out who's been their best slugger and been their hottest hitter, their most dangerous hitter by the way Slugging well over what five hundred eighty now I mean, he's had one hundred seventy eightated bats. you know, you give another hundred bats. What was his numbers look like? twelve and thirty three to eighty five hit a homer against a left handed pitcher yesterday and then hard handpring first base. And oh, by the way, may two really spectacular, but really fine plays coming in and, you know, I have to say safe canan zone because I have it on the rundown. We're going to get to Can zone Okay sry ten and two ten and two keep it keep it on the road. All right. J I want you to finish up your thoughts on on Rf Snyder. And then I've got a follow up to R Snyder before we'll transition to Canzone. I can only think that, you know, you change teams and Rob is probably present, of course. Kenny, you I think to myself when when I've had stretches where I struggled and I moved around a little bit in my career, you have to go back and you have to look at what it was that I was doing when I was going well. Eue to watch things, go watch yourself doing well Just watch it over and over again and remind yourself of what a good player you are. without Not without losing the fact that something is awry It's like You know, Puck you played a lot of golf. If someone gives you five or six suggestions, are you going to be able to go out on the gse and make those five or six changes Wh not? Maybe one You got one swing thought maybe you could doal with that, right But if you got too much, you're not to get it done Cidence is Paramount and he's lacking confidence. And again, I don't see him hitting any balls the right field. I don't see him hitting any balls the center. I hit him I see everything to left So it tells me Sometimes we used to joke, sometometimes you got to get jammed That means what I say you got to get jammed means you're staying inside the baseball longer to handle breaking pitches see the ball a little bit longer, try to hit the ball the other way. I don't know what kind of hit he is. I didn't see him over years. I mean, he already play against the Marriers because they got all right hand of pitching. We didn't see him very much, But he does not hit the ball the right field. not. Do he h a lot of home runs No Do he need hit the ball in theiddle of the fld Yes. Do yourself a favor. See the ball longer. My follow upp to R Snyder is this before we get to again zone and and I want to choose my words, I guess carefully with this. I don't know if I want to call it Organizational malpractice, managing malpractice. I don't know I don't know how a guy that's hitting one thirty something. why he hits leadoff on Friday. I just think I've been told now For the last we've all been told for the last decade and I understand the theory behind it You want guys at the hitting first or second who want to get the most ABs. those are your best hitters Why would you put him hitting lead offff Why It just that just I saw that and I just thought to myself, this is It's not serious. He hasn't earned that. Wh Why is he there And I just come back to the one word is malpractice. What your thoughts when you saw him hit leadad offff on Friday? And that the first time they've done this. They've done. And you're right because baseball says we want to put our best sitters because they get up a fraction more per week. in the first and second hold of the lineu And as you look at that lineup and granted, it's a left handed pitcher with some guile that'suarez and he threw the ball very well You kind of eliminate Emerson, you kind of eliminate young You could even think about Naylor there because Naylor just is a pretty good hitter. Why not move him up? But he's a first pitch swinger. I'm not so sure that's the right fit for him So as I look at that lineup, the guy I'm thinking about is Rleplace But Rowblaz has been off and o But you know, he he has good back to ball skills and he can run. That's what I'm thinking. If I'm gonna tot the lineu, I'm probably thinking robes But I'm a little more traditional about the first hole I like guys who can run Mhm. so, um I don't know why Rf Snyder wouldn't hit down the order. I mean, you just like, you know, we're Sometimes you wonder because you have you have a component of statistical measure that figures everything out before it happens And sometimes you say, are they just trying to say they're right because they they just know statistically over a longer stretch This is what he profiles as. But we'll be damned if we don't show you that we're right I mean, I'll tell you what. I don't mean to change the subject, but I'm watching defenses And everybody shifts everybody I don't get it Everybody shifts everybody The right hand hitter has a freeway to right field through the through the fore hole The left inner is a freeway the other way The marers were fortunate Tole is like nobody can pull him. Lefties can't pull him And we then they play him to they play everybody to pull and young gets a baseit to wins the game becausecause they're not playing hey play them straight up for crying out loud Not even shifting over thinking that he's going to hit the ball the other way. left handers versus a left hander pitcher I really I mean, I know that they have done the homework on this. And oh by the way, granted, there's a guy standing on in the dirt circle that's fifty feet from the plate when the balls hit, but actually you have a player there. If you're worried about the middle of field, there is a guy standing there. Now he's out your best fielder, but he's a guy Yet you shift everybody. I don't get it Everybody shifts everybody. I just everybody and I get that I don't I want to know I want an answer from someone there because I don't know. I don't Is this a collaboration that they come up this decision to bat them lead offff? And again, this is not the first time they've done this Because I want to, you know what where it's I want to blame somebody and I don't know who to blame I just And I don't does it come all down Wilson? I don't think it's all on Dan Wilson, but I want to know the thought process of why they think hitting him leadoff is like Yep, that makes sense. Let's get him. let's get him more at bats than we In theory would get Hulio Why They don't want to look at short term numbers. They don't want to look at a guy and say he's not right right now But we think he's going to do it, but head your bet. You're going to put him in the line, moveo him down for crying out loud. You get a feet off. That's for sure. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And you know, your reaction to things that are happening in real time are very short time. They're just numbed to that completely numb. They're going to look at the big picture on everything. Yeah. let's let's move over to transition to Dominiic Canzone who has as you said has put up just an amazing season. I mean in seventy games, two hundred one plate appearances. Bill Kruger' got a nine hundred fifteen OPS. He's slugging five sixty two hitting two hundred eighty one, twelve home runs, thirty three runs driven in Now against left handers you brought up on Sunday. Not only does he get a home run off a left hander. He hits an opposite field by the way leftft handterers this year, twenty three plate appearances. He's got OPS of seven eighty Slugging three hundred eighty nine We have talked you and I have talked about this probably every single week We come from a different school. That's why we call it old school baseball We're not in love. We understand it. We're not in love with platoons. I think it's I think we both agree it's overdone. Why do they just not run him out there against Lies and just Sink or swim. We'll see if you can do it Because to me, I mean, he's a better option than anything else at the ro Rob Rfniner. It's a better option than Rob Rfsteiner just is right now. Well because statistically they feel that if they tuned circ positions were so left handed You know I mean, you look at our lineup Emerson's left handed Young's left handed Crafferss left handed, Naylor' left handed. I Rilei who is leading our team in home runs forever was is left handed There's just so much left hand hitting and Raleigh but Raleigh switch hits, but You got so much left handed hitting that they need to be able to balance it out and they have chosen Canzone to be that guy What's interesting to me and I've talked about this you know well back is what's the future for Dominant Canca Is he that horrible? and I' feel Do he need to go to winter ball, play for first sp b? Is his career as an outfielder over? pretty good over the weekend now, didn't it I mean, if you want to get the best abdominant Czone, doesn't he have to play right for you Is really all that big shakes and rightife you He's okay I guess his track record as the right fielder is better than than Kanon he runs better. Is his arm his arm is these are f Is it not? Yeah. I mean, it's not like he's great out there. U And now Dominic hurt, which is just a shame because he's been so good for them and he's been just swinging the back great and he's a hard wororking young man that wants to be a great player and he's an integral part of his team. I mean, these These interestures are killed him. He's got a hamstring. He's going on the IL That's going to be tomorrow. He's going to the IL for sure because hamstrings are nothing to mess with So Ready comes back now. so we kind of plug the hole there, but yeah I mean, Dominant Canzone for me, he plays He plays. He's in there. Now whether he's a DH in the right field, that's another topic to be discussed Yeah, I just I think he's earned the right to play more playoff that even against left handers. I just it's a better option right now. and I just want to see if you can do it. I would probably even say the same thing about Luke Reay. I mean, I get it All these guys though have grown up playing against both sides and then they get to this level and it's now we've decided. someone's decided no, you can only hit one side and I get it in a perfect world. It makes sense. Like I'm not discounting the the logic behind it. I get it. Yeah. But it's just not in the cards right now for them I mean, they're putting Rob Ruff Snyder up there. It's just or whoever has been there right handed bet, and it's just been an automat account. And these two guys in Canzon in particular, have just been sensational this year. I'm just willing to ride it out a little bit and just see With added confidence, does that confidence that he's had all year long mainly against right handers can it carry over against left handers. playlers develop. you know this better than anyone. Players develop at different times and periods and later in their career can't disagree with you. I think I think Dominic Canzone has to play I mean, he hit three hundred against left handanders last year Maybe it was't that many of Bats, but Um, they just are seeking. They're looking for some place to give the lineup tilt becausecause that's what statistics tell them. that you got to have right hand hitters in your lineup to give your lineup a little bit more advantage against left handed pitching And he's the odd man out. Somebody has to be the guy that can't hit left hand of pitching, even though he hit it last year So it has to do with roster construction and this team's a little bit one sided. I mean, look at Donald's not even out there. He is left handed I mean, the team hits left handed. We had a period of time where we had no left hand hittings just going organization and we've kind of flipped it other the long ago, Bill, like like a year two years ago. It was just you were begging for more left handers And now they theyve got a slip mark it rewards left hand hitting right. So I think that makes a ton of sense The fact that they can hit the bleachers and they got more left hand hitting. I mean, it The right handed side of the field is better. It's more conducive. So But you know, all this stuff is all good and well. Um and and really, we can win three three out of three out of eight games with no run score. I mean And yet we kick one away. I know I don't know if you want to talk about that, but maybe maybe it's, you know, we've tired of my rant around the six man rotation and the bigiggy back, but I'll on theirect traffic on that it's it's next on the list. Here we go you do. You're the boss. here your favorite topic Okay there's six man is right there and then there's the piggyback and I just as I saw this And to be fair because I didn't see any of this until on Sunday because I was camping in the woods with no internet, no nothing. So then I look and I I see what happened on the game there on Friday, right? whereere I see that Bryice Miller Oh Bryice Miller Five innings, one hit, seven strike countsy pitches at Bryce M sixty six and then I see Castillo comes in to pitch the final four He gives up the four runs and I'm just thinking to myself, God, I bet Bill Kruger just shaking his head sitting back watching that game Friday going What are we doing? Why are we poulling a guy sixty six pitches in which he's given up three hits and a one run and Bryce Miller even said it afterwards. So and I found his comments to the reporters afterwards very interesting because we've been sold that it's been a unanimous decision to go with this, which is I don't have any in. I just call BS on that. There's no way it's unanimous. There's no way they're all on board with this His comments even suggested it afterwards Like he just he was upset about being taken out of course and he should be, right? So your reaction to a piggyback part I don't know are we on two or part three of this now I guess we're on part two Okay I did it for three turns. And then they return to the sixth man, which better but not a whole lot better. And now we're back to this thing You know, they did it three times prior. The first time was a disaster. They brought Castio in. they didn't know when to pull the plug on him and he threw a one hitch shut out that game. we had no hitter going against the White Sox. We lose that game. The second game we smeared a whole bunch of crereasy runs on a very experienced AA starter against the As and it didn't matter gave up two and five and the next one he had the one hit shut out came out And that game was where we footed the the u the eye of the needle. I mean, you just thread the thread right through there perfectly. Castillo comes in. he dances through a bunch of left hand hits gets a diamond backs. There's a line drive that young spears that tip his club, otherwise they lose And then you have this last And you could argue this Farez was shutting him down. and he gave up one run They end up getting, you know, a couple later. I mean, they got the runs off Castillo and it's hard to say that Miller staying for two more innings makes a difference. but you just don't pull the plug on a guy'srowing a ball that good You just don't You play to win They're not playing to win. They're playing to playcate. They're playing to somehow manage personalities and whether there's Question becomes this What is the reason behind it Why are we doing this Are they worried that that Castillile going the Ball pen is going to disrupt the team? It's not going to disrupt the staff Yeah. Are they trying to keep him in the rotation and hopes that as they get closer to the deadline and that's why they've said it's only through the all start break and that we come out after the break and They're gonna to move But in the meantime, they have to keep him in rotation or to make him more marketable In other words, we're going we're going to play these games that we're playing right now and they say to themselves, they can convince themselves Well, you know Really, what we're talking about is we're talking about the margin, right? Most of the time, our starters go six Miller's been so efficient and so good. he's pitching better than anybody in baseball and ends up being he's the first guy of the shoot in this quote unquote piggyback scenario. Hey, look, there's no, there's no, there's no good strategy around this at all I mean, there just isn't. There's no good strategy behind the piggyack. there isn' There's no reason why you do it He's got Castio has twelve starts and one quality start N are R North of five Everybody else has got five or more quality starts pitching eighty to ninety innings have an ERA that floats between three and four giving them six innings or close to a start Those are the other five guys. They're all pitching great Why He's the outlier. There's no other way to cut it He goes to the bullpen, he gives him a chance to win a couple of times a week by spotting him in the middle of the game And you know, if there's ever a breakd downown the closer role kind of think that he could possibly do that. Now people would probably argue with me based upon his success, but I think in one inning he might be Re tough. Now what we saw of him was better velocity, but again, he gets caught on the flat on the same line as his low arm angle. He needs to get back to throwing Fastballs above the line and everything else sliders and change ups down. Get away from the two seamers, just try to throw the ball above the line, top the line. Remember over three years he threw a lot of high fast. He needs to get back to throwing high fast. That's what Luis needs to start doing But getting back to the topic makes no sense. This is five premium starters and one guy that's not pitching good You cannot revive the money Money is a sunk cost. You've already spent the money He's given you four incredible years and he's got value. and it's going to be tricky to try to figure out how to move them or he accepts his role in the bookpen And then Jerry's comment was, well, we have we can't do that because if we tried to bring him back to rotation, he'd lose all his list I'll give you an example h In the middle of my career, I got I got signed. I was let go by Pittsburgh. I signed by Milwaukee. not to bore you with my career. They sent me to AAA. they pited me twice as a starter. I came up to the brewers and they put me the bullpen and I pissed in all kinds of roles, mostly long rellef And suddenly, there was a need for me to start and guess what? It was against the Yankees and I threw five innings right away And it have been two months since I started. So I don't buy that buy that. Once you've got some volume underneath you, you're going to be fine That's just an excuse It's an excuse to try to buy a reason because there isn't a good reason There's not a good reason. I'm not going to go on my dietrop about seecretiat and Koreb Julel J Bar and Mars Seaan Lynch. We're not going to go through that again. But if you like me to, I definitely will. We've got we've got on thechives. It's first of all, number one, we've reached the point of the program where you've gone dark Right So yeah, you have to wait one I'm trying to get the lights to come back on. There it is the lights got to come on now There to number two It's part of the greatest hits of the Bill Kruger collection, which you can go. to listen to all of the past old school baseball that has your references. to Kareem and seecretary. All right. I agree with everything you said. And I do believe it was it's the latter just to finish up that topic. I think it's the latter. I think they're trying to move him. I think they they're keeping him in this spot keeping him around that seventy pitches. I know he's like sixty six, I think on onn Friday, but I think they're going to I think they're going trying to move them I think he's part of the dangle to someone else out there whoever if it's a right handed bat. orr if it's someone in the bullpin that they're going to try and dangle a starter out to entice another team to take it. All right Final thing, let's wrap up with this. Yes, good There's well, do you want to you have a final thought on casting? this going to say the tricky part is is that I don't think he moves. in a way that you're thinking he's going to move and you're going to get something That's going to be a difference maker in return You're going to have to come up with a different kind of trade in order to get like a bullpen guy, right handed bat. you might stumble into one. There's a couple out there that match salaries of Louis. Otherwise, you're going to have to eat some money If you're going to eat a ton of money, then he makes sense and there's probably a combination deal that helps you But if you're not willing to eat money He's not going to give you what you're looking for It's going to be a different trade to get you what you're looking for This is not one that's been mentioned. It's, but he has been connected maybe with the giants and if the giants want to move on from Chapman who's a third baseman or Suzuki their outfielder in Chicago. That's a name that's been mentioned Someone that I talked to Jim Duquet, former GM of the Oriols and Mets last week about this And he brought it up on his show with Jim Bowden this week as well Uob was They are pushing hardlyast Jim Boden is suggested a trade that would involve Duran and Chapman coming to Seattle Japman obviously gives them a back at the end of the bullpin guy a guy with post season experience. who throws the ball and then of course, what you you know what you get with with Jaron Duran. Now the guy the player that they have mentioned And it would be more than just him, but the headliner of it would be Ryan Sloan Yeah, I Chapman is u he's a little different breed of cat. He's he's not u the fuzziest, warmest kind of He's a material figure. so he's turned the lights out. his stuff is still electric. and Well, the question becomes is he willing to be The guy that pitsches behind Mudos I mean, he's not going to Fllowiskis. Munios is a closer. And if you's let me, let mean, you got you've got more disruption now, don't you you got destruction in the rotation. You got disestruption when Donovan comes back. and now you're going to add more destruption and you're going to add another left handed bat and Duran Yeah that I don't like Duran, but that's another left hand at b. I don't think that's probably what they need. Okay. you know M Maybe if they need they need to ran out of if you if you take the ran out of it and just say Chapman Here's why I would advocate for champman you go back to I think it was the Was it the b was the three nothing Baltimore game or the three one Baltimore game with with Muno's. What was the game in which they had, I think it was the three nothing? whereere after the first guy he walks like the whole infield. You you remember this? they come out and talk to him to like settle them down I'll be I love Andres Munios. I think everybody in this organon in this town loves him But I want to tell you right now. I would have a lot of reservations. If you told me game seven' on the line. He's coming in. to protect a one run lead to win a world series. I'll be I don't know I just don't know. I don't know if he's mentally built for it I don't know. I think he is He's talked about it openly. how much he the confidence is a big issue with them. And just I need a closer like a chapman that does not give a you know what He's going to come in He doesn't care about anything. He's going to strike you out. He's intimidating I don't get that with Monas. I just don't I'm sorry. He's been so good. I know boy it's it is It's nerve wracking at times watching him come into games He gets out of a lot of it for sure, but H last three times out. He's been pretty good. didid walk two in the second appearance. He's thrown a ball a lot harder He's been a little bit more mechanically sound. his fastball command has been better He's had just, you know, enough rest, but not too much rest And you know, it's it's concerning when he hyperventilates in Washington. they have to take him out of the game. And then first game back, he covers first space and they got to take a time out to get his breath back. I mean, those are real concerns about watching him in what kind of condition He is in Uh, you know, that's that's that's worrisome right there. I I hear you H his he's a little scattery and he's not pitching with a great deal of confidence. He got tos he's, you know, these last couple of times out, you know, hes he's pitching he's thring a ball hard and that's going to make him pitch with more confidence. He's had a good track record here. He's not Crol type of closer, He is a stuff closer But so is Chap Chapman's a stuff closer. He's not a control closer. He's not a guy that's got old. He's like he's intimidating. You are scared to face him. cared Yeah, I understand. I understand that. So you know, maybe that's an option for them. I think it's I think I think of a I think it's got to be a real hard look by this organization. I think they need we all agree they need help in that bull pin We do He just to me is would be a great fit. All right. Let's end on this real quick, real quick. don't give me like thirty seconds. They got three games left Before they get to the halfway point, who are they Who are the mariners right now h their their team is going to win the Ale West. because the L West has no pulse They're going to get guys back. they're going to get better. They got to get out of their own way and have five starters They got to get brashed back Um, that's important U They're going to make a deal in the bullpen. they're going to find to find somebody that helps them ro probably find a right handed bat They just have to get healthy. They're not healthy. They're not healthy, but yet they're still in first place. So I say they're going to get healthy and they're going to be team that's going to win the division I believe that. Now whether they can advance after winning the division is to be it remains to be seen. but there just hasn't been any club that show me that they're going to zoom past the mirrors. I just don't see it. It's not going to be the As So it's got to be the Rangers It's not going to be a are playing that ballpark that gives them no chance I'm not pitching the Rangers have pitching and if they could ever find offense then they're there and seeer' always hurt. So you know, I mean, this is all part of everybody's journey through a long season of baseball and the Mariners are feeling the effects of injury right now in spades, right But these don't seem to be devastating injuries. The hope is that Brash is going to come back after the break And Donovan' a good player. He's going to come back and play and he's going to help them. And you know, they've discovered two great three great young players. Cole young is a legitimate second basement plan High caliber defense and holding his own offensively. Emerson looks like he's going to be a star And Emerson Hancock has been great You have the first half, he's been their best piter. Now Gilber's pitching a lot better now Hancock has stumbled a couple of times. He had the start in Washington where he got a little stubborn about throwing his fastball and they were hitting first pitch off of him. and he's using his pitchc and went back to letting Raleigh call the game. I thought it was very strange when they went out to visit him this last start He gave up a hit, he gave up a walk They came out and talked to him because they had an open base because they had u They had, uh He walked cont first. That's what it was. But if you watch that He watch his body language As soon as he's talking. they're all talking. There's a big scrum out there and Woodworth is still standing there and Hancock walks behind the mount and Woodworth was still standing there. And I wonder what was said because he like the body language of him did attack. He did attack Wilson Cverus And if it's my last hitter, I'm attacking him going right atam because I want it's my game. We're already losing the game anyway Who's your best pitchers? your starters. You don't land in the bullpen every single time when you're behind I don't think so And he didn't give it to himself a chance Now they tell him to walk? I don't think so, but they probably took the gist of the game away from him I think he knew he was done for the game. ariod And he didn't attack Contreus and then they came out and the game went the other way, right? So So I wonder a little bit about that whole picture what was actually said to him My chances with Emerson Hancock, keep's doing the ball good. And he was having a good game. He had a little bit of an inning where kind of got away from, But I don't see in any sha way, shape, or form a problem with Emerson Hancock I think he's a much better pitcher when he let's, you know with Raleigh, all of them have bit better with Raleigh. You see how Gilbert was? How many times we talked about Gilbert in the fastball And how many he threw fifty some od fast ball, fifty percent plus and then he threw sixty five percent yesterday and he dominated Does that mean he needs to throw fifty five every game? but no. he's got a fastball that's late down the mount. He throws a ball the top line, then you haven't seen the whole bag of tricks. Oh my God, he's a whole different guy could be like pitcher of the month, all star. He could be anything he wants to be by throwing more fastballs. and I've said it Time and time again thirirty seconds turn into four minutes there Sorry, cut, cut it Whatever you got to do There he is Go Kruger old school baseball with us every single Monday. He's truly the best. We appreciate the time. It was a long extended visit today. I didn't mean to go this long. Thank you to Bill Kruger there again brought to you by all Aces concrete coatings. That was a lengthy one. We normally don't go that long, but it just I lost track of time I'll be honest with you. So much stuff that we covered in there for the piggyback situation. Araldus Chapman trade scenario. We played a little bit snippet of what Jim Duet and I talked about last week that we never aired because of the technical problems. be fascinating to see. you know again, we've had a chat been going on there on YouTube and Again, people are divided on chapman just because of his Domestic violence alleged incident that happened eleven years ago. someomeone don't want them on the team just if you don't look at that for just a minute and just look at the player, they need help in the bull and he would provide that help And again, there's just something shaky about Andreres Muneos. I know we's been okay in the last few, but there's just these incidents on the mound of hyper vventilating and The infield having to get together to talk to him. I don't know. They get a huge game. I'm not sure I can fully trust Andres Munoos to close it out He's on he's great and when he's on, he's terrific Chapman gives him I think what Chapman provides if he's willing to accept it is a role not closing games. And here's the thing I don't know if Matt Rash is coming back. I don't think anybody does. I know what they said, but again, this is he's been dealing with injuries all the time. He can't can depend on him Aald this Chapman gives you a security blanket Go and get into the posties All right, let's get to on this day brought to you by Hive Social as we wrap up the show. On this day, we bring up and I don't mean to do this to hurt everybody, but the probably one of the worst trades in Seattle sports History. onene of them, not thee, but one of them And it took place on this day, june twenty second, nineteen eighty seven Back then it was the NBA draft, which I think NBA drafts com come up next week Uh or this week. NBA draft took place in a nineteen eighty seven The Chicago Bows traded for Scottty Pippin out of Arkansas St state, I believe And they acquired Pippin from That's right Right there Hold on, whereere's it at Seattle Supersonics And it has gone down as one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history. We all know what Scottty Pippin became and turned into, right? All that The Balls moved their number eight overall pick to Seattle. and you're asking yourself, anyone, Bueller, don't look it up. anyone no Who that player was Who they traded to get for Scottty Pippin The eight overall pick by the bulls that year was oldlden poonies. That's who Seattle acquired. They also swap first round picks for the nineteen eighty nine draft And the Bowls ended up getting and again, this would not have been a fit for Seattle because they they were going to get Gary Payton. BJ Armstrong out of Iowa who again, was a huge figure in that those championship runs, but Scottty Pippin Olden poonies Yeah, that that goes down as one of the worst trades and I could put it up there as one of the worst trades in the history of Seattle Sports Big D olden Polnies control for dressing up as a cop. Was that the thing in Utah He did something weird, right? All right, That's on this day brought to you by Hive Social, the official meetup app there for Puck sports.
