There the support there of the go to guy with us here on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Are we working today? Do we've got do we have Bersada Ranch in our sites later on a Wednesday No, but I played out at Persada yesterday and I'm working out there Friday Okay. How did we shoot? Did we play eighteen or just a weein We puck, I don't know what I'm thinking because I had a friend in from Austria, the guy who set up the whole Portugal trip in April. and we played eighteen on Sunday at Crosswater. We played thirty six on Monday and we played thirty six yesterday And I woke up with cramps in my legs that were I mean, you ever get cramps? you know, they're the kind that cause you to scream and you wonder when they're gonna to stop and you're drinking water and you know, Kathy's saying, relax, relax, relax, relax This hurts. Miserable. Were you walking all these courses or did you No I'm not walking. We're taking carts and so I'm kind of like going It shouldn't be that bad. I want to thin I'm thinking I'm sixty nine years old. What the hell am I doing? seventy two holes in two days What's the point? I mean, so eighteen Sunday, thirty six Monday Yeah And thirty six And thirty six yesterday. Yeah. It's man. Yeah. I mean, they were all nice courses. We were playing down at Sun River, the meadows, woodlands and crosswater. Brada and we played Trongghorn too and That was insane Yeah, something tells me this was all compped No, I had to pay it Ponghorn That's the only one you had to pay at Yeah No crosswater, this this guy I know from Austria, he's got a connection there You got ussually you got to stay there and it costs free ninety to play. Yeah. And so yeah, we got comp there They J ch is that, right I think yeah, they changed it a year or two ago or it's all private That's a lot of that's a lot of golf. Prongghorn's a great course. I mean all the courses I played all the courses you name they're all wonderful, but Prongghorn is a That's a real nice one. That's a real bougie place out there at Prongghorn. You're living and staying in Prongghorn, you you know, you've done well for yourself. It is nice out there. And they have Twilight rate, you can play for one hundred thirty bucks at Twilight. One of the greatest experiences we ever had at Prongghorn. We played out there, we teed off like late. No one was on the course like three hundred forty five And it' still light. we're going to finish eighteenam was great They They had said it was a hot day. They had sent the cart girl home. They're like, yeah, she's not around We're like, really? And we had beer. We call, I think on hole six, we call the club as. we say, Hey, this isn't going to work out. man, we need something. We need some beer. The guy went go went to the store Drove to the store Got like two got two like twenty four packs and brought them to us. It was great and ice W the prrongghorn. Yeah, we did him well. It was great. Okay, what do you think of this? I'm not going to name the course because, you know, when you get comped and stuff, you don't want to say anything bad about a course. That's that's that's poor form. Yeah. that thing but go ahead They had a beverage cart boy there Yeah, I wouldn't go I just I wouldn't back. I wouldn't go back. I would I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I just wouldn't go back You can't have a beverage cart boy. It's not it doesn't roll off the tongue. Beverage cart boy doesn't sound as good as beverage cart girl. Listen, when the majority of your customers ninety percent are male. They want a cartgirl and they want an attractive cartgirl. and it's okay to say that. Okay. No one It's not no' anything inappropriate or do anything It' not appropriate. Yes, it is. It's okay. That's not okay to say that. It's a safe space in here You can say it. Oh open dialogue on Twitter and open dialogue. I would know confuse to go back to said course that you were comp that they had a cartboard. B that'm good There's something about that because every time you see the beverage cart coming around, you're going, all right, the beverage cart growirs here. And then when every guy does shows up you way. Hey, do you think she's hot? God, she looks kind of hot. you see? And then they get like, a Damn it Damn it From two hundred y say I thought got a smoke show. All of a sudden no No one ever says, Hey man, I can't wait to see the beverage cart boy. Yeah. D' any. I can't wait to comeome on And w, what were the courses you played again And no comment. Yeah No they were all the high end places. You know what if I come down here' what it is, but I'm not going to say. I won't say. No, what I want to tell you though, if you come down to central Oregon this summer, it's a little bit of a drive. It's forty five minutes to Prineville, but it's worth the drive to play Meadal Lakes cour is in fantastic shape. Meadow Lakes. You can play for forty five bucks at Twilight. You walk off the eighteenth Green going God, that was awesome. The people there are great. So check out Meadow Lakes when you're down here. I like Meadow Lakes. I took your advice when we were down there when you refuseed to play golf with us at Brada Ranch, we took Ow and The old back nine the old back nine is I'm I'm in. I would play the old if I live down there I play the old back nine every day at six o'clock a night Six o'clock I would have a standing date with the old back nine Yeah, you can call the old back nine just last minute on a hot day and oh yeah, we'll work you in. That guy didn't even say you have to call. I asked him. He said, Hey, if you want to come back with your kid like at six thirty or seven or something like that. Yeah, we usually just send off a bunch of kids like Yeah And No the old back nine' great. It's it's close to. It's really close right fromom where you stayed would it take ten, fifteen minutes to get's nothing. It was right there. It was it was wonderful. All right. no one wants to hear about our our golf escapades. How about the night there on Tuesday for Cole young. That's got to be You're going back home You hit a home run. All your family and friends are there. And then apparently the where the ball landed is where you watched all the pirates games growing up as a kid. That's just unbelievable. You can't write a better story than that. No, there was so many things right about that puck with his high school coach getting the ball for him and then you know, reading the story in the Tes this morning that the he just told his coach to keep it I don't even I like to think I'm a selfless person. but if I get a home run T moobile and I grew up being a Mariners fan and somebody wanted to give me a ball, I probably would take it and say thank you very much but for him to leave it with his coach That was really cool. And then the other part of it that I really liked too was that with Railey at second. he was just trying to move the runner up He was just trying to do, you know, a baseball play and he got a pitch he could drive. and so he drove it. But Yeah, all things that were good about Cole Young last night andonight he'll never forget incredible and he's just had an incredible season. I mean, this second season for him. I mean, There was a lot of hype of Cole Young coming up last year. You remember that? And then right when he gets called up, He's got that sacrifice game winning hit and you everyone's jacked up for him. You're excited about him. You've heard so much about Cole young and Colt Emerson, but young was the first one to come up. They had been talking about these position players forever. Wait till this next wave of guys comes in. You're like, all right, he better deliver And then he didn't He didn't deliver And he didn't deliver so much that he never like they get the second half of the season in their playoff push and then the playoffs. he doesn't play ever. And he's replaced by God, who am I blanking on that they he got replaced? Polanco, but then there was the other one. they was he the other guy? Polanco played more but then there was the other dude that kept coming in. My Godd. Louise Louet was that guy's name? Why can I not remember his name? Who was a littleanic infielder? Who was it? Louise? Who was it? Why can I not I'mt are Oh my God. I'm not even gonna look it up. I'm just embarrass myself. God, Louis Rivos, Jesus Yeah, you got little Louis Rboss. That's what an impact that little Louis Rivos made on onagine I just can't remember them. Yeah, okay, puck wait a minute. canan you imagine people out there listing right now? There's There's some people there are going, God, I can't believe these guys can't come up with that name a littleittle Louis Louis Rvos a lot of people they are thinking God, I don't know if I could do this for a living, but if these Bzos can do it, maybe I've got a shot. Oh, I blank on names all the time ca There's only a few people that can do what we can do and that's why we're the were the best of the best. We're like topop gun. Oh yeah. Yeah. best of the best. B of the best. B of the best only get You know, midday podcast in Seattle. Up and running. That's what sets us apart. That's what sets us apart every forgetting utility and fielders names who are now in Tacoma. Yeah, but he went from not playing at all and you're thinking, at least I did. I went in the offseason going God, I don't know. I think ye, I mean there are questions like Well, I mean, Polanco, you know, the whole third base experiment, we all knew that wasn't going to work out. but God Polonco as a hitter was terrific down the stretch. And so You wanted him back. I mean you knew the payroll was going to be a problem, but or that somebody is going to offer him more money like the Nets did. but I remember when they lost Polanco, I thought, man, they they're putting a lot of They're putting a lot into Cole Young here and hoping that he'll come through and he sure didn't last year when the chips were down. and No, it's great to see. And now we all know about that double play combination up the middle that they have for years to come. I just think I think the work ethic that he put in the off season. Demis and I do it. We talk a lot about him today on inside pitch, which if you're a pucksposy member, it's out now it's forty minutes to talkking Mariners baseball You stick here for a little bit and then you can go check it out. later. We'll play the Divish Light version coming up later in the podcast, but He had a lot on his plate going to the offseason. One thing that he struggled at immensely last year was hitting fastballs Batting average was something around one seventy eight last year hitting fast mos Or maybe even less than that. This year is like two hundred eighty Like that's what they they told them,re they're getting you out on fastballs. You need to learn how to do that. You need to learn how to hit that. You need to get bigger, you need to get stronger. You need to get more agile You to be able to move, you know, to your left and right a little bit more athletic and he put a lot of work and you can see the difference in his body from last year to this year. I mean he looks much stronger. He's got a ton of power. think he's just put in a lot of work and you still forget I forget at least, maybe others don't. How young he is I mean, he's twenty one years young. I mean, my God, it's unreal Like And and I almost forgot that he was drafted right out of high school. I this three years ago. thinkink about this guy' in high school. And you know, Davis and I were joking, but You know, he's visiting all these friends coming back home this week, right What of his buddies are probably, you know, Fada Kais at the University of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and Ohile state And he's over there. his parents, you know, just drinking and hanging out like a college kid. This guy is a starting second baseman in Major League baseball. It's it's a great job on his part this off season. what he's been able to do this year and you're right. You said it earlier just to have those two the what did you call them the CNC music factory to have Colton Colby Short stop second base for the next ten years. I mean, you can just envision what they're going to be like Yeah. How many times do you think he watched that replay last night? And I don't know if he was at his family home last night but soaking it in with all of his buddies and everything and watching the replays and because he probably doesn't even remember exactly what it was like going around the bases, although he did say at the time it seems surreal to hear everybody that was there cheering for him. And yeah, to see that that team that he grew up rooting for and to beat them at that home field That's awesome stuff. It was great. It was great And you know also was good from the game yesterday. He didn't have his his best stuff. his defense let him down was his own enemy letting himself down defense defensively George Kirby just got, I think a Maybe last year two years ago George Kirby does a complete meltdown. I mean, we saw it last year Tampa. He wasn't getting calls, his defense is not playing great behind him. and he just starts plunking Tampa Bay Rays because he's so mad And he gotut it through a game yesterday in which he didn't look good His defense didn't look good But he got you he got you through and pitched a heck of a game He talked about that too. He talked about how he yeah, I mean, I don't think he referred to what it was like in the past, but he decided, you know, to kind of just Let it go, things those things happened and he's going to deal with it differently than he has. So that was Yeah, kudos to him because I mean, these guys aren't going to have their A game every night out there and you gott to figure out ways to win with your BB minus C plus games if you can did last rightight. He did And I like that Naylor had a couple of hits. I like that Naylor made some plays defensively, you know, since he's had to deal with everyone questioning his work ethic online and that he's mailed in the fucking season Is that what's happening? some of these people. I swear, some of you people Online are some of the biggest idiots I've ever seen I really because he got paid. he's not going to be same apparently there's a this narrative being pushed out by these Dorks that he got paid. So now he's just mailing in the season just Oh God God bless America. Everyone's got a voice, but I always question whether or not people really should have a voice sometimes. Yeah, I think so too. I mean, everyone has an opinion, but some some shouldn't. And and we probably fall in that category is Should have one. I get it. Yeah. Also happy for Andreres Muneo'. boy he looked like a different pitcher, didn't he? I know what do you think has led to that transformation? like a week ago, he was having a meltdown on the mound. so I don't know. I think it's week by week with him. Well what does Davis tell you then? Like why why is he so different? C he seem suddenly confident? Why does every pitch over one hundred miles an hour I don't know. I think he's all about confidence. If he just if he doesn't feel comfortable Then he'll have episodes like he's had and when he does feel confident he'll have what he had on Tuesday night where he looks It's sensational. You know, I think Larry Stone made a comment on Twitter and he's right. This is why you don't give up on him. I mean, he's so appealing because he's got something that very few players in this game have. I mean, he's got one hundred one in his bag and he's got a devastating slider. I mean, he's got two just great pitches, but it's all feeles like it's all upstairs with him. I still feel this. They need to find an arm in the bullpin I'm a huge advocate for Aaldus Chapman. There's some of this fan base And maybe even in the organizations don't want to touch him because of what happened a decade ago. Okay I think that's foolish too me because it's about winning games That's all that matters. This isn't we're not we're not. trading for and acquiring Choir boys. Okay Can he help you win. So they need help, whether it's chopping or someone else. they need help in the bullpin But for Munos, I don' know. mayaybe you agree or disagree with this If it's in a Elimination game And he comes in to protect the leadite. I'm nervous as hell with him Scareres not enough Well agreed because for the better part of the year, he hasn't been the guy he's been in the past So this recent uptick is a nice thing to see and hopefully it's a harborer of things to come with him being the old Andres Munos we've gotten used to Yeah, he is but he I' again, hitting one hundred one on one It's the same thing with him every time if he can land that first pitch and it's usually after that it's pretty pretty gravy, but it's anytime he walks the first guy or throws a ball it just feels like it's Meltdown city with him. Yeah You feel better about cal now I was always fine with counts. You you you It's you people So scared. I'm just wondering, I'm just wondering if you and you've been pretty much positive about the team. We're halfway through the season now halfway through They floated there' there. Where was their record a year ago at this time at the halfway point. I think pretty similar. probably right around the same thing. So I just it's such a long season God, it's long and I think some we forget that I think there's people that just forget that every year, how long it is And after eighty one games and Listen, their're benefit they they're benefited from this division being terrible which is great. It's probably what, you know, I think Davish says it in today's show and you hear you'll hear it, but It what it's what gives them this flexibility to do what they're doing with the piggyback because I think they look at and go, well We can kind of experiment with this thing because I don't no one's gonna catch us in this division That's a dangerous line of thinking. Do you think that really enters into their thinking I think so. How much I don't know, but yes, I do. I think if it was a more competitive division And they were scared of the As and the Rangers I don't think they'd be doing this. I just I just think it's just as you know, somebody who's been a sports writer doing the podcast with you, sports talkal and all that. It's a great topic. It's just a terrific topic because nobody's ever really done it like this before And for the mariners to insist on keeping doing it. It's like they don't look at Twitter. they don't listen to fans and what they think because if they did, they'd be going God, you know, our fans don't like it and we're God we're just get They crushed on this deal and Yeah, we probably Logan's been really good lately. We probably should just give him the ball and say, Hey, man, if he goes seven or eight, we're going to go with you And so I just don't understand, you know, why the latest thing being, you know, Logan Gilbert should get the ball and be able to go as long as he wants to and yet they're going to piggyback him. Yeah It makes no sense to me. I don't get it. I understand that they all agreed to do this. so now if they pulled the plug on it would make them look bad But this is kind of the problem with marrying yourself that everyone was going to do it is now you're in a situation with a guy in the last six starts' got a one something ERA. now you're going to tell him on Saturday Hey, bud, I know you're at seventy. And you've got, you know, you've given up three hits and no runs, but you're coming out of the game. I just I don't know. I don't like it. I don't think anyone likes it and you can't convince me. I know what they have said publicly and even and Diver says even off the record. they're like. The very O with it, but God it just, I don't know. There's no way they're okay with it. How it sits well with a competitor that has to come out. It clearly doesn't sit well with Bryce Miller. You cannot convince me. I've watched that the interview after the last game, the post game. He's not okay with it No, he's it is what it is guy. And when you it is what it is, that means that you're not happy about it. You're not happy about it at all. So I think what it gets us to the Luouise Castillo trade, I think a lot of it has to do with them trying to move Louise Castillo. And I think that's not an original thought on this. I think a lot of people feel that But I do think there's a lot to them trying to move Castillo And if they were were to put Cast you in the bowp and his value clearly is going to go down. They're going to have to eat money no matter who they trade him to. He's owed twenty four million next year in twenty eight he's got a vesting option for twenty five. So they have to match them up with some team that maybe has a contract if they can line it up. or doesn't want to pay a guy you know, next year as a free agent. you know, say as Suzuki's been mentioned for the Cubs. He's a free agent next year. He gives them that right handed bat. He gives them another option of the outfield, another option to DH The cubs are desperately looking for starting pitching Clearly with his time with the Reds. he's familiar with that. you know, with that with that league so he can go over there and pitch. So that could be a possibility. The giants are going to be in sell mode. No, I'm not taking Devers Devers can bounce sand, but Matt Chapman, but thing with Mat Chapman he's owed a ton ofoney. Yeah, a ton of money And and if you were to chquire match Chap, he's a gold glove third baseman. So so then what do you do J. Crawford He just asked him to move over there and now you go acquire another third baseman. But I do think it's all about dangling him and keeping him fresh at the deadline and and when they get through the All Star break and get closeer to the deadline, they'll try and maybe they won't be able to do it. and that will be fascinating. If they can't train them, then what is the plan continontinue with the piggyback backack to the six man or do they finally rip off the bandaid and put one of them in the bullpin. You know, Kruger's crazy idea is And he's got crazy ideas. Well, hes that's not czy. He wants to put Castillo in the bowpin, but he thinks Castillo could be the backup option as a closer If something were to happen to Muno's I don't think that's so crazy. I mean, we've seen in the past in Major League baseball where starters have become relievers and they've been sensational with Aersley and Smoltts and is the best one ever the history of the game. Well, you know Maybe second best, but Dennis Eckwards's one of the best Yeah it was a starting. John Smoltz had a great resurgence at the end of his career Okay, well, you could say, what if the Mariners don't make the playoffs by one game at the end of the year and you look back to this start that Castillo is going to have this weekend at Cleveland And you go, well, okay, remember when ye, remember when the rock got rocked there in Cleveland and they lost seven to three because they were shopping him I mean, nobody fans don't want to hear that. I mean, they understand the bigger picture, but You don't want to see Castillo go out there. If you're going to have Castillo go out and have another start, It should be another piggyback start and pair him up with woo on the road because woo hasn't been good on the road. You can make more sense out of that That willoo be the, you know, the guy comes in at the sixth inning or whatever or Hancock. But I don't know. I don't see any sense in what they're doing.'m just saying handing them the ball and going, Hey, go for it, man. give up five and maybe we'll somehow have our bats alive that night. So it doesn't really make the best sense to have Luis Castillo be the guy that doesn't have to piggyback anymore Well, and I and They are playing with fire with this but I do think again, it comes back to the division. They they feel probably very confident that they're going to win the division and they're not going to be pushed. But God. I mean that you haven't really separated yourself. What is it a game and a half, I think still Who knows what kind of run maybe one of those other teams go on. And if you're, you know, your your dark scenario where they were to missing the game the play by a game or two, you're going to look back at all these piggybacks where they were kind of just Not to use a crash. We're dicking around with it and go What are you guys doing? Because really they've always said it, Dan Wilson has said it Every night we go out to try to win the game. We need to win tonight's game, no matter what But it's what how they've handled this isn't exactly going out trying to win every game because they wouldn't do it, you know, like they have. They would have pulled Bryce Miller the other day You know, when they first did it, they wouldn't have had Castillo going to the ninth inning and pitch. They would have went to their all Star closer So they're screwed around with the baseball gods. That's what makes me nervous with them Baseball guyss don't like to be messed around with. They don't they just don't They hate that kind of stuff and guaranteed too, like Dan Wilson everybody gives him a hard time about whatever, you know, It's always like Dan Wilson sucks. There's that that camp out there. But I mean, the guy's old. What is the late fifties or something like that? So he's old school and there's no way Dan Wilson's telling us a bunch of bullshit about how he's okay with the piggybacking stuff because he knows that's what Jerry wants him to say. So he's saying what the company line. He's trotting that company line out there, even though he goes home and tells Annie, his wife, you know, God, this is nut's what we're doing, but I gott to go along with all this PS. I mean, that's how I feel. I don't think he wants to do it either. Let's move on. I have a new move on sounder. We want to move on to a new topic. I don't know if it's gonna stick down. Get out the way. Car the building. Okay, What is it I just played it. Did you not hear it? Get. Flear the belly I'm having problems with airpods. I don't know. Are they you having technical problems surprises me today Yeah, I'm sure it does. I'm sure it's a huge surprise. I think it's because I haven't charged up the little station that these stpid little bastards sit in Yeah, well, that's that's kind of part of the whole game. You got to charge them. You know, I lost my phone and anyway, go ahead. Yeah. Anyways, Adam Silver. I don't know if you saw us Adam Silver was on the Dan Patrick show on Tuesday And gave a pretty firm timeline of when he thinks expansion is happening in the National basasketball Association. We looking at twenty twenty eight, Seattle and Vegas still the. leading candidates for expansion? And if so Memphis or Minnesota going to the Eastern confonerence? doeses that sound fair? So if we expand, at least we're thinking twenty eight, twenty nine season, the only two cities at the moment we're looking at are Las Vegas and Seattle. We haven't had a vote on it. It's not a foregone conclusion, but we're in the process of talking to groups that are interested in getting an expansion team in those two cities. And then yes, and then if we do add two teams, we'll want to likely even out the conferences. so there will be some movement then But if you're looking at two teams notot either Seattle or Vegas. Yeah, We're currently looking at two teams, but what we've said is it's possible we won't expand at all and we could expand to just one market, but we're officially looking at both those markets right now I don't know if he's said that timeline before, mayaybe he has, but you know, saying twenty eight, twenty nine. I mean I think people a lot of people I was hoping twenty seven, twenty eight, but I don't know. I think we've waited we've waited this long. We can wait longer. I know there's going to be people out there that don't care. they don't want to back wake me up when it happens. and I get that. Part of that too is I need to see a firm date. It would be nice to get a firm date, but it just appears That we are, I don't know what it is. the percentage that people want to put on it returning I'm probably like get eighty percent I think it's happening Holy I thought that was high Well, no, I mean but all the excitement. rememember when L Wiki came out? when was it Was it in March or April, the last time that Silver talked about it. And he basically was saying that he It felt as close to a slam dunk as it could possibly be without being a slam dunk. And so I think it's more like ninety percent at this point Yeah, that feels good Yeah, but can I can sense that maybe with that eighty percent, that twenty percent part of it is because of how long and drawn out everything has been, how they haven't really wanted to commit. The other thing, I can't help it, Huck, I just every time I see that guy, is he not the weirdest looking human being you've ever seen in your life And does he eat I don't know or he must, but he looks like he's on the verge of death It's Well, I don' I don't think he looks like he's near death, but it does look to me. He looks like he's from another planet and looks like he just hasn't been able to eat for whatever reason I don't know, you know, I suppose I shouldn't mock someone's appearance, but I feel like it's fair game to mock his appearance because he's as much of a jerk half the time like Stern was, you know? It's just like I don't like I don't like getting given the cold shoulder to Seattle for so long. Especially with they every' been like I disagree. I don't think he's been David Stern. I think he's I think he's been part of leading the effort to kind of reverse what happened here in Seattle. I think he's always spoke openly and glowingly about Seattle dont I don't get that same sense. It just seems like it's a slow play. Well, but he if first of all, he works for the owners blame the owners. It's the owners. I mean, the owners are the ones that need to to push it through I don't know. I I disagree. I think he's been I think if it were solely up to him As the commissioner. if he could snap his finger. We're doing this, you have to go along. I think this would have been done years ago. Okay All right, maybe you're right. Maybe you're right. I just I just sense that this thing is dragged out so much that it always seems like Right when you're on the verge of thinking, yes, it's going to happen that they're going to get a team that that you won't be surprised if if no, they don't. You know, I I just this whole thing like like you're saying twenty eight, twenty nine I mean, that's going to be a full twenty years since Sonics left.. And they could they could have gotten this done for twenty seven Well, I mean if they want it with both teams coming in at the same time. I mean, they don't have to do that. Now there's news out of Vegas, which is good. I think this is good for the Vegas things because if they want to come in together, the guy that owns the Kights now is making a bid. So that's good because then they can play in the same damn arena. They don't need the fifteenth arena in Las Vegas And we got to wait on that Yeah, I wouldn't think so. Yeah, I know it's crazy that they want a new arena when there's so many down there. I'm with you on that. I want to leave you with something funny today There's no audio to this so I apologize to the people that are just listening, but it's like fifteen seconds. You haveve probably taken your dogs or the dog in the bark or what is it bark in the park? Bark in the park Yeah, I took I used to take Willie there. yeah. Bark in the park happening in Miami. Like Miami's been the scene this week It's not really for their baseball team. It's for what I'm about to show you Th also that's where the the Scottish soccer team is that are like just taking over Miami beach everywhere just marching playing there. You see the video of them playing their bagpipes? They're just getting shit faced at the pool and the guy sitting in the pool with a bagpipe It's just God, it makes me I've never had Scotland on the bucket list to go visit a city or a country. I'm in. I'm going I can't Yeah, I can't believe you havent had Scotland on there for the golf. Yeah that's and that's the thing. that's that's why I'm so dumb. I need to have it on there. This is from Bark in the Park Marlon's game earlier this week. I want to W the dog eating the hot dog, but then I want you to watch the dog in the back not their dog looking at the dog eating the hot dog death glare of the other dog going, Hey owner, why don't you feed me a hot dog like them? This is why I piss and crap all over the living room Yeah, that dog also had all written all over its face. He where's my bite? Okay. because I see that with with River and Sky all the time where and youually you have two dogs, you know, when one dog gets something gets the other dogs look. Okay, okay now. All right. I'm good with you giving Sky that But where's And I'm a mean owner because I treat the younger dog. I'll give it to Maple. The older dog was fifteen and I'll give her food and then I'll just hold out on on Alder. I'm like,, I don't, Alder. You don't, you don't get me right now Well, I'm the same way. same way Same way with River, you know, I say to him. I go, Hey, man, you were here first. you're going to get you're going to get yours and then And then Kathy's always, didid you give Sky something? Did you give Sky something? Yes, I g Sy something. I took care of her too. Yeah. That's perfect. All right. Well, best of luck here. whatever you got plan for the rest of your retired Wednesday. Okay. Okay, Park. thanks. I knew that when we got done here, you were going to say, Hey man, we got to go back to the microphone, the headphones. I knew you were frustrated with me and I wanted to make you feel bad that, you know, like when you talk to Kaisa and said, God, I gave Jim shit on his birthday. That was a pretty bad form for me to do that. But I didn't know. Yeah, sixty nine, I'm proud to be sixty nine today, P. What are you going to do to celebrate your birthday? Not a damn thing. I'm not gonna to play golf. I can tell you that much I won't be doing that, but no I' just got watch my burgers. justust hang out. Fally got rid of the guy from Austria. How b of form is this? We were out to breakfast in Mcay's cottage today? I love McKay's cottage. Birthday boy. I fake like I was picking up the check. You know, I normally don't do that because I don't want to be called cheap, but it's my damn birthday. The guy didn't even pick up the check. And he stayed in our house seven nights for free. We fed him and everything. So bad form, bad form. Yeah. This is the guy that puts on the golf travel boondogles to Sicily next fall that you get to go for free, right They're not boondggles. Send me an email Puck at pucksports. com Every week though, we give you an inside pitch light version with Divish And on this week's light version, we talk about the pitching situation with the Mariners, Louise Castillo, piggyback. Is it fair to Logan Gilbert? All of it with Ryan Divish inside pitch of the Seattle Times brought to you by Chall Bowl and talking with some people with the Mariners Yeahah, this it's not ideal to have Logan doing this what would be less ideal is to have this meeting Set out these plans and everything and get the pitcher's input on what they want to do. So set it up based on what they said they want to do and then you go change it based on some results, recent results. because then you're screwing with everybody because then they're like, well, we just talked about this, but just because he pitched well Well I pushed w the last time and we had to do it. So like I think in the level of fairness, this is what they're trying to do. I mean, like it's not This isn't normal, it's not ideal, but at the same time, like They feel like this is their best option to keep everybody stretched out. And whether you agree with that is it something level of importance? Sem it does. And whether it's because they're worried about somebody getting injured or somebody needing extra time or the idea that they may want to trade Casto or somebody and keeping him streted out because he has no value if he goes through a reiever roll is no value to other teams U you know, dirt They're doing it for their reasons. You don't have to agree with them Right But like you can't say that they haven't thought about this because in talking with people, this is stuff that they go over and over and plan and they, you know, trem blank the myeague or the not the my director of pitching you know, they asked him to come up with some ideas and, you know, he basically did this, you know, kept doing it daily and doing it after games and reassessing and looking all these things and it's like there's time that went into this. So I To be honest, like the constcernation on Twitter about it and the anger I think now it's just like groupth Looks like, oh my go I was just getting angry about this It's it's it seems a little overblown or override. honestly thinkcause like because like look, It isn't You could lose a game and that's and it's not ideal, but This is they're trying to have some long range plan or some long range thinking And I think it' And to be fair, it's tough for fans to think in the long range. They're thinking about winning the game in the moment and then, you know, winning those those games and how that affects them and what's going on in that moment. and not seeing down the road and that's not a fan's job is to see down the road. It's the GM or the manager. they have to see down the road to see what what the strategy is to have benefits all the way through the season. and You know, that's. That's, you know, you can't expect I don't expect fans to understand it. I mean I don't I don't know if I completely understand it. I just don't get angry about it because it's like nothing I write And nothing fans are going to say are going to change it The only thing that's going to change it is if there was some level of mutinies from the players or if the overall results were so catastrophically bad that they had to walk away from it. And they haven't been catastrophically bad. They've been mixed I would say Well, your perspective is obviously going to be different than a fans's perspective on how it's on how it's treated. I think from a fan' perspective, I mean, if you step back and look at it, I think it's fair to I think it's fair to understand the thinking for them is like, what aren't we trying to do everything we can to win that game Be that really should be the goal for every team. But What do we need to do to win today And I think you get in a situation like they got in the last time with Miller and Castillo Listen, he's at sixty three pitches and he's given up three hits in a one run In no scenario would you ever take him out of the game to bring in Luis Castillo. but They've got this bigger plan Obviously that that is in place for them and clearly you touched on Clearly they want to trade him T That's what it's clear to me that they they're doing this because they're trying to desperately probably move him at the deadline. And you're right. If they move him with the bolpin, he's got no value then He's got value as a starter I think that I just think it's a tough position for all of these pitchers to be in I think it's certainly unfair to Bryce Miller Could they have done something else that could have appeased everyone I guess looking back on it Despite how he was pitching although he hasn't been good of late in the last two, three stars. is probably just go to Hancock and say, man, I don't know. you've been in this role. We got have to put you back there right now again. I don't know. there The easiest thing to do becausecause with Castillo And maybe you can just say, well'll just put Castillo in the bulp and. I don't know, it's a sunk cost anyways I'm not envious of of their thought process with it. and I agree with you. I don't think they just coming up things like Daic, Oh, let's try this today. I know there's a process behind it, bud I think because of their long term Plans They are opening up some criticism to sacrificing some wins that in The in could come back and bite them Absolutely. I mean, I think it it's easier for them to do this plan given the division they're in and what they're saying. I mean, they have not played well of late And they there's still what one and a half up, two up, you know? And so it's like it's easier to implement this plan and not go extreme because you There's no impetus to really like you're not Um you're not playing your way out of it. You know, you're not chasing and Like and for me I'll never tell fans how to be fans because I'm not one. so I don't know I don't know why they tell me how to be a writer when they're not one, but that's, you know, okay. But like U Yeah, it's it's a tough, it's a tough sell And you're right What a Dan what was Dan Wilson's managa to like always do everything they can to win that night, you know, you're going do everything win that night's game It reminds me a little bit Be I was dealing with this when I was on that little break last week and even last year It's like When you when you're dealing with your team and use faceball and you got a pitch limit. And you get one hundred five and then they got to sit for five days and you're like looking, okay Yeah, we is the value of pushing this fitcher to one hundred and five games and have him sit five days or do we keep him to seventy five? He only has to sit three and we'll bring in somebody else who isn't quite as good, but we think we can make it work because we're good enough. It's like this weird thing, you know, I don't think D Like you're not running the game traditionally, but they also, I think, have some faith that You know what? L if she just goes in and isn't terrible We can win the game. The problem was is like a couple of times it's blown up in these games where it hasn't worked, what have the mariners done in those games? They haven't scored anyways Like the Ranger Sores game they, you know, had what two hits. I mean, like And somebody's like, wow, You know, Hulioos, Hulioos homeed and theame winner. I'm like, ye Tommy Cany wouldn't be pitching to Hulio in the ninth in a one run game. That would have been role as Chat You know, so it's like You can't play that game or you're you know, Like and I kind of wrote that on my game straory that there were so many layers that piggybag game and what went wrong and how you lose a game. You can't just sit there and say, well, was the offence or whether it was this one guy or this or that. I mean, a lot went into it for them to lose that game because if if they hit if they're hitting off Ranger Suarez You know, and Castillo comes in The one thing is too is like we don't like if Castillo was really bad, like he was or whatever, but they were leading and the game was closeed, there's no there's not to say they wouldn't have poulled him. the bigger pictures were going to win the goal, but they hadn't scored. Castillo gave up the four runs or the three runs all of a sudden It's seemingly out of reach for a comeback. So then you're like, okay, let's just run it toill the end to save the bull. It's like throwing in the the long reliever when you're down three after, you know, four innings and calling it good. So let's work on the premise that I think you and I both agree that they they're actively going to try and trade him Do you you agree with that as well Why? I certainly don't think they're going to be opposed to it And then I don, you know I think I think they're also looking as just they have Six starters and they have Kate Anderson in AA You're looking around and how many teams right now can you truly say selling Rockies, the royals Maybe the M. So will there be starting pitching on the market teams that need stters because there's always going to be a need for stters at the deadline So here the mariners are, look, you know what? we've got this guy here host every five days. he's willing, you know, he's stretched out. He's ready to go We' even take a little bit of the money if you give us something in return. Well, you guys you guys, you guys wrote about it We've talked about several scenarios. I think we've talked about some of these guys before anyways, like Matt Chapman with the with the Giants Finding guys that kind of are mirror him a little bit in contracts. The Robby Raymond Hanger swap. Yeah. So Chapman would make sense Third baseman, right handed bat owed some money I don't have the contract right in front of me. Then you've also got Suzuki there with the Cubs kind of would fit salary? Well, you would Is he a free agent next year, right Uh ye think so? Yeah So you have their desire they have a desire to acquire starting pitch and I think he is a free agent. What makes sense like when if they were to move him D. Ballpark, what kind of money are they going to eat? Be they're going to eat some money. not every no one's going to pick up that entire salary there with Castillo Yeah, I don't know. I mean, it's it It's got to be probably a little bit this year and a little bit next year. So even if you were to take off f. use like you're halfway through or you're beyond halfway point this year. You're not paying a lot of freight on this year. It's paying the freight on next year. And you can kick that can down the road a little bit too. like if it's you're taking the money from next year ten million, who knows? He's what twenty four million do next year. just pulling that up in Suzuki is is He is a free agent. He making nineteen this year. then is a free agent. So he is making He'll make twenty four million do next year And then has the vesting option in twenty eight at twenty five I mean, you look at the cubs, they have no starting pitching. They're all zer And so yeah, so like if it's twenty, you know, the pro rated version of what of what's left to twenty four million versus what Suzuki is owed out the nineteen, you pay the difference. It's just straight swap. Mbe then the cubs can just pick because the cubs have money too. It's like they don't. The cups could just say, okay, yeah, we'll do that I mean, and then you get Suzuki, a right handed hitter who could go into the R snider roll You're right, Hened DH you know, didid I not need though where he's like I don't I want to play every like he's like adamant about playing in the field Yeah, you know what I want I five traffic to be a lot better. I would like you know, my own HOV lane but you know, some things you're just not going to get. You're not being itd be an upgrade. I meanit two seventy ago PS eight hundred six Yeah and you I mean, that could give him the cursory day in the outfield. It's he's not good out there. He seems to think that he hits better when he plays in the outfield Hi, I'm Bau with All AC's Concrete coatings. The big unit, Randy Johnson on this day back in nineteen ninety seven In the kingdom, he struck out nineteen batters against the Oakland athletics that day. but becausecause his offten stunk He lost the game for to one He ended up taking the loss. He was the first left handed pitcher in the American League to fan nineteen in a game He threw one hundred forty two pitches that day In the complete game. one hundred strikes It was also there's so many big moments in this one. One, he struck out nineteen. The fact that he lost the game And then the third one, do you remember the other significant moment in that game on june twenty fourth, nineteen ninety seven Mark McGuire hit the probably the farthest ball in the history of The sport Five It was registered at five hundred and thirty eight feet off of Randy Johnson in the upper deck No one had ever been up there. No one ever I'd never seen a ball hit that far. ever in my life And what Mark McGuire did june twenty fourth, nineteen ninety seven on the same day. It's it's remarkable two huge events happening on that. in the same game Randy striking out nineteen him hitting that home run five hundred and thirty eight feet. Marers had just five hits in that game three coming from Griffy. That was it later that season about seven Almost two months later He would strike out another nineteen against the Chicago White Sox That time. It was a win. They blanked the White Sox. He finished the season pretty good numbers here. twenty and four with an ERA of two point two eight Randy Johnson, onn this day june twenty fourth, nineteen ninety seven, on this day brought to you by Hivees Social, the official Puck sports Social Media app. All right, we conclude every show with one final word.
