Wh Where would you like to start on this Friday? You want to just Go right down the line and start with the mariners or Dealers's choice on a Friday, Jim Yeah, I guess most people are interested in what's going on with the Mariners and you know, some people feeling like, hey, it's okay. They're in first place. It's going to be like last year similar record. And look what happened last year. It's magically going to happen in the second half of the season But there are those people that are thinking, man, this team sucks So I don't know where do you are whereere are you? Well, I'm in between. just depends on the day, I guess, just like everybody else because they can look so good. I mean, we try and remember what it was like and that that eight game winning streak wasn't that long ago I guess it's you know, three weeks ago or closer to a month, but I mean, everything was clicking and now it just the offense is the biggest reason why they're just, you know, this whole three runs saying that they just can't get over three runs. What's it been eleven games in a row or something like that eleven straight games. They have failed the score three runs or more The last time and again, I'm just pulling this from the great work of Ryan Demish. The last time they scored more than three runs was june twelfth DC The record They've got the third most In baseball scoring three runs or fewer They've done it forty Three times their' thirteen and thirty. If they just score One more run One more. four. That's all you're asking for is four their record Four more runs is twenty eight and eleven. It just it is rinse and repeat. every year with this offense the same. They change hitting coaches. They make they make new titles of hitting strategists. apparently that's what Edgar is. They've get new hitting coaches. they they say they're going to go into the off season and they're going to change the way that they attack things. We want to hit for more doubles and get And every year it's the same thing. They can't score runs No, it's it's home runun or nothing with this team and it's been like that for a long time. They can't put T and three hits together and and runners in scoring position yesterday, one for ten more of the same. It just seems like I don't know. you know what are they doing? I mean, R Snyder, we still are seeing him making appearances. They still at what point? I mean, they gave up on Pllock and And why all these other guys, Donovan Solano, I mean, they bring in guys like that and it's mystifying why R Snyder can't do better than he's been doing because they gave him six million dollars to hit Lies, but You're more than eighty games through the season now. you're more than halfway. Why do they keep insisting on thinking they're going to get their money's worth out of that six million they're paying him. And they're it's not just him. it's other issues too. and Cal ever going to be the same. Emerson struggling U So it's I don't know what the answers are. shouldhould they fire Dan Wilson, all these different things. How come Edgar doesn't give any nobody gives Edgar a hard time because he's Edgar, right So Usually a hitting coach. comes under fire Hot seat for the hitting coach, Scapegoat hitting coach Well, that's not going to happen with Kevin Seitzer or Edgar Martinez Yeah and because Sitz is the hitting coach and Martinez is like the director of the hitting strategy, whatever. It's it ain't working. But but I would also say I'd offer this up for Edgar and Sitzer I don't know what they're doing behind the scenes. No clue. I mean, maybe they are preaching a different way to all these guys and a different strategy and a different approach and maybe the guys just aren't working. I mean at some point the players have got a it themselves, but this this I mean, this is now a big open topic. This does go back to You know, honestly, when it comes to offensively speaking, roster construction, what type of players are you going out to get Are you going out to getting players that are going to put the ball in play and you know, spray the ball around all different sides of the field and hit doubles and extra bases or are you going to get guys that strike out and hit home runs and The guys they acquire strike out and hit home runs So it flies in the face of what they telling you they want to be. They're trying They're getting these home run strike out guys and then telling them Hey, let's work the count and, you know, hit doubles in the gaps. It just kind of None of it makes sense. You brought up Rf Snyder. I mean He's they paying him six million dollars to come in and hit left handers and his slash line is one hundred forty five. T twenty one He's slugging to fifty three against them and he's got an OPS of four hundred seventy four. And what I don't understand and again, this goes back to Is it Dan Wilson making this decision? Or is it a collabor collaborated effort before the game that they decide to do this What I just don't understand. you and I have are probably we're dinosaurs, but we are through with the platoon And most not on all cases for me And there are times when certainly you pitch in. And I because that's been a part of baseball forever Forever. That's just not anything new What I just don't understand This guy is not hitting He's not doing anything And you get in a game last night in the sixth inning where they bring in Evan Sisk. who is a leftty who replaces the starter Chandler He's got Randy on first with the now He doesn't pitch it for Luke Railey Everyone's expecting Oh they brought in a leftty, arere they going to do this? because they want to get Ray out. so they don't have them later because they're going to bring in a righty. Dan Wilson doesn't bite In the past. he has bitten on that. Has he not? We've seen it a million times immediately goes against Rob Rfsteer, immedately He didn't It leaves Luke Rayian What did Luke Railey do for him Line drive to right field A a lefty I was told he can't hit Lfties. We were all told But what I don't understand, he just does't And maybe they're going to tell me, well not all lefties are built different or all they're built differently right because the other Montgomery guy is is a tougher lefty than the Cis guy, but in the seventh inning with Cal and Nailor on fact, I think maybe the bases were loaded and they're trailing The bases are loaded They're trailing by two. . pitch hits for Luke Ry who in just the previous inning against a left hander at h for Rob Rf Snyder who's not hit them And what does Rob Rf Seyder do pops up to left field exit velocity of eighty eight miles an hour. And I just Why Can you answer that, please for me? Why Well, no one has an answer for that. No one The only answer is that they insist on thinking that Rf Schneyer is going to be the guy that he's been Apparently throughout his career, able to hit Lfties. That's why they brought him in. and so I just I'm fine with it in April and May. Okay, let's see give the guy a chance. The other part I don't understand is when they play him. This guy get clean up in one of the games this year And hes hit leadad off a number of times. and if so I just sit there and they think Hey man, if you're going to use Rough Sneidder, have him hit eighth or ninth and don't put any pressure on him And because I mean, yesterday, if you're R ser, think about it, Puck. I mean, you're going, okay, here's another opportunity. I better come through at this point because I'm not going to be on this team too much longer. Yeah, I'm still going to make my six million, but I really want to come through and be the guy that I've always been puts more pressure on him to produce. And so yeah, it's It's not working. We've all seen that and we continue to wonder the question you asked, why? No one has an answer I don't think Dan Wilson wants to really throw him out there. Maybe Jerry's, you know, pulling the puppet strings and and telling them he needs to keep doing that because Can you imagine Lou Pineella? Think about that for a minute Do you think Lu Pineella would have given Rf Snyder this many chances? There's not a chance in hell that he would do that You know, Wilson's got to do what Jerry wants him to do and that's one of the reasons he was hired. And do we think that I mean, you and I and others, we kind of always throw that around And and then they'll deny that. They'll say that's not true. Dan Wilson would deny it Dapoto would deny it. Hller would deny it guys even probably covering the team would say that's that's not true But we always say it and I'll just I dont I feel that way. I whether it's them directly saying you need to do this or It's before a game And they discuss all the scenarios It just feels like they have left the feel out of the game and the feel is Luke Ray and Dom Canzone can hit and they've been hitting all year and really just Kanzone showed to you on this road trip. He hit a not only hit a whole runoff of Lfty, he hit its opposite field. Luke Railey comes through in a situation where he hits a ball at the right field And yet They have preordained this with Rob Rfstiner' got to come in. I does does Dan Wilson lack this feel for the game? I maybe maybe does. I've defended Dan Wilson a lot on here I think sometimes the criticism has been a little over the top. but You know, I think is there's only one guy to point at during games and I think you have to point at him asssume he's the one making the decisions. I guess And I don't understand that decision at all. And they keep doing it. And your point of All right, you want to play them fine. putut them in the game It's malpractice to hit that guy lead offff. He's going to get the most at bats in theory. Why would you hit him leadoff ever Well maybe their're thinking is if we give him more of thats he'll He'll find his rhythm. and start to come through. And they will continue to contend till the cows come home that What they're doing is the correct way of going about it. And you would find out if we let Luke Riley hit left handers over and over and over again. There's a reason why we're not doing that with Luke Railey And we would show you, but we don't want to show you because we already know that's what's going to happen. that the Luke Ray, you see who's been productive this year wouldn't be as productive if we let him in against lefties all the time That's That's the only thing that makes any kind of sense at all as to why they're continuing to do what they're doing I guess I would you I think you and I and the other fans would counter with can it be worse than what Rh Snyder is doing No, it can't be mean I mean, in theory, I guess it could be, but I don't know. I mean, I was just You look at Ry and can zone splits and again, that they're not going to be the same just because they're The they're so few at bats. But yeah, I mean, he listen, Luke really hasn't had good numbers against left handers this year. obbviously He's got O PS of three hundred fifty three and he's slugging one seventy six. I mean, it's not good And I'm not saying they do it all the time, but I think in that instance where he already had a hit Yeah, I don't maybe lean against the numbers for a second and just kind of go with Your gut and I know new baseball people will be Oh your gut. just try it. J go with your gut and see and see what happens Well, you need a combination of gut and analytics, don't you? Isn't that what you want, your manager? How about I don't even know if they do this kind of stuff, but I was just stitballing here thinking while you were talking, but Why not on off days when Ferrere needs more work inspire needs more work? justust say, Hey you know what? We're going to put Luke and Dom in the box against shin and let's see how they do Or what about You know, I don't know what kind of fancy machine. Well, they've got that fancy machine that is at Safego T mobile It is the coolest looking thing. I've ever I don't know if you' ever been in the bowels of it, but I can't even remember what it's called, but they have this machine And several teams have it and it's like a half a million dollars. it might be more than that. W they can throw wick wicked breaking balls and that kind of thing No, but it pitching machine, the ball coming out. it mimics with a video of the actual picture Oh wow. So like, if they were getting ready for Paul Skens, it would be a video of Paul Skeens And Paul Skees is actual motion and everything coming at So it looks like you're fingaul skines. They have that. Maybe they do this. Can they whyy don't they just pick the best left handers and just Lies all day or do they have a coach on their team that can throw BP to him lefty I like that idea on off days or war just hit left handers and I don't whatever. I just they keep doing in I'm over R. Maybe the are I' sorry. I'm sure Rob R. Maybe they are and Maby Rob, I'm sure Rob Rfstein's a nice guy Every time they he comes up, I'm like Yeah, it's just it's just over and over and over again. He's had enough opportunities and clearly it's because they're paying him six million do. If it was six hundred thousand or whatever the minimum is ABDF you're right Well, one thing that they have not done we talked about this and this was in the stretch of these games, right? They have not taken advantage of this schedule in these last nineteen games in which they got to first place. They were thirty three and thirty and you're like all right now they can really maybe get some breathing room in this division and they they're not there're They have not extended In fact they've lost games in the division. They're eight and eleven in this nineteen game road trip or this stretch of games, not just the road trip. It includes two road trips in a homest, but Detroit, Baltimore, Washington in the back home against Baltimore Boston and then Pittsburgh. They lost the series in Detroit. They split the series with the Oriolals. They lost the series in Washington They won the Baltimore sereries at home. They lost to the Red Socks at home who were terrible. They lost to the pirates on the road Meanwhile, and don't look down But guess who is now g biting at their heels. Our good friends, the Houston Astros. the Houston Astros in that same period of stretch. of baseball in which the Mariners have gone eight and eleven Houston has gone eleven and seven. They've gone from twenty nine and thirty six Looked like they were dead. We're selling Alvarez. We're getting rid of everybody They're now forty and forty three. They are a game and a half back in the American League West And that organization has always been aggressive at the as at a History being aggressive at the deadline and trying to do something. and they're looking at the marage going We're gameing half back and we've had they've had you talk about the Marinerers's injuries The astroros have had injuries left and right And they can probably look at Seattle a year ago and go But we were six and a half games up. was It was Houston was up last year, I believe. And Seattle was forty two and forty And the mariners were six half back. Oh hell We can make up a game and a half Eily Well, no, and it's it's too bad obviously to see that because You thought It was a permanent changing of the guard last year when the mariners finally got over the hump and took on the astros and beat them And then and now to see them just lurking there a game and a half back Are you going to spoil what you did last year by Be the, you know, the new bullies in the AL West and it appears that way right now hopefully when Donovan comes back, theyll you know, get him at the top of the lineup and he'll be that guy that you're talking about hitting doubles and being a lightning rod for this offense. And so boy the pitching you hate to waste the pitching with Bryce Miller, all these different guys and now we got Luise on the mound today and we've got the piggyback tomorrow with I mean, there's all kinds of things. it's fair to just crriticize the mariners and second guess them We're just all baseball fans watching these games But it's just it's mind boggling what they do sometimes with this stuff. like Really, what has Louis Castillo done to deserve a start all on his own compared to the other guys and then What has Logan Gilbert done to deserve being piggy backacked T toomorrow Th What is the? I mean, I actually wrote it down here. one point four nine ERA is last six starts And you're going to go up to him in the fifth inning and say, yeah, you know, that's eighty five pitches for you, Logan. and sure you've given up one hit and no runs, but We gott to give the balld Emerson right now. Is that what's going to happen tomorrow And Loganss Loganss going to go Yeah, okay. I'm going to make it look like I'm okay with this. Here's the ball Dan. And then okay, when I talk to Davish and Jude and everybody else after the game, I'm going to go. Yeahah, that was part of the plan. I'm okay with that. There's no fucking way he's okay with that bullshit No way I I watched to do an interview on Thursday on MOB Central and they asked them I would say he answered it He answered great, and I'm going to tell you. You would hear him answer it and watch his body language and hear him And it would suggest that he has no problem with it. I'm just telling you how it comes across But to write with Bryce Miller. Bryce Miller, if you read between the lines with Bryce Miller? He thinks it's the most ridiculous thing that's ever happened to him in baseball. Bryce Miller thinks it's Mickey Mouse He does You know't probably told them that because it is probably told them. Yeah. it is And this goes back I think we talked about it earlier this week. It goes back to screwing around with the baseball gods. The baseball gods don't like when you screw around with them and they're playing with it because they're doing this like, we're going to do this little experiment. littleittle six man little piggyback the division we're comfortable because that's what it is. there They're being cocky about it They're doing this because they think they're going to win the division. No problem I'm telling you that the baseball gos have a way of making you pay for that And they're scooting around with these games and treatment like it's the B game on the backfields of Peoria It's not good Not good. They need to stop it and start saying we're going to do whatever we're going to do to win tonight's game And that's why tomorrow, I don't care what they've agreed to. They should say eff it throw in the fire and burn the plan. If Logan Gilbert is humming through five innings and he's at seventy pitches and he's giing up a two hits, you leave him in the frreicaking game And Dan Wilson can answer it afterwards and say, you know what? screw it. We have this plan. I'm not polling him. He's too good. and I'm not going to wear we're not going to we're not going to do this I mean, they won't do it but that's what they should do it It'd be like, you know what I want? Mariners insubordination. That's what I want. I do too God, I just want Dan Wilson to say something different. Go off script Just go on script and say. Yeah, you know what? Jerry told me that I needed to do this tonight, but I thought we had a better chance of winning by leaving Logan in the game Would there be something wrong with that? Yeah, I'd have to have a closed door meeting with the Poto the next day, but It cool to see him go off script like that. Just do something different Not go al with the company line You you are the words smmith. Can let's can you come up with a different phrase or words of we tried hard Yeah we tried hard or he always says it's a tough one after they lose Yeah's toom what what you know He's one of those you know guys too And I think about that sometimes. I hope I'm not going, you know I hope I'm not doing, you know, all those things like, you know, he does and I shouldn't criticize him for that what do they do at this point? I guess we just keep going along the same way they're going along and hope for the best Differe phrase for we played hard. We left it all on the field, competed fiercely Gave a gritty performance U push them to the limit Just something other than we played hard Gu fun different guys fud. Yeah, that's the other one Guys fod That's his version of Carols, she got through it Yeah, just guys fought. How about the boys battled They dug deep The guys went to war. I don't know. just anything other than the guys fought because that's every Te they lose. it's the guys the guys fight. All right Let's move on. U Blazers owner Tom Dundan.u How about this guy by the way who looks like the younger brother or older brother of Kyle Whittingham. They are the same people person by the way. except Kyle Whittingham is just a little bit bigger And more muscular, but Tom Dundan and Kyle Whittingham, I really honestly at times can't tell them apart He he he wants taxpayers down in Portland. pay six hundred million dollars for the team's arena renovations. He said, quote, I can't believe he gave this quote Honestly. you got to hand it to him for that And he said at least hes honest about that It Feels like we're making a pretty big investment by staying here Y tax rates. I mean the balls on this guy Well we were're at least we stayed here No, you can't if you're a Blazers fan, you can't stand what he said, but Oh att least he was candid and honest about it. Because that's what You know, that's what Clay Bennett was doing in Seattle. and he wasn't honest about it. So Give him that at least I got I' to be honest when I saw Okaykay. I know it's not the Rose Garden anymore. It's a Mota center. and I know I call the Rose Garden. It's okay. It's the Rose Garden on this show. I haven't been in I haven't been in that building for probably five years, maybe ten And maybe it's not up to whatever the NBA standards are now But I never walked in the rose garden and thought, God, they need to really fix this place up And then not only do they feel like they need to fix this place up, It's going to cost six hundred million to fix that place up Like You can't build a new building for that anymore, or is apparently it's going to be an entirely new building just The Colosseum turned into climate pledge I have been in it recently I don't understand what people are talking about. It's weird because you Oh it has to be upgraded. It's it's, listen. it is old You know, it's one of the older buildings you know in that we have in sports. I mean, it's, you know, it And to say it's outdated. I wouldn't say that it's outdated. It's just an older arena that has been You know out there for a long time, but when you walk into it and you walk around the concourse and everything Does't look old to me. And you go sit in your seats And you watch a basketball game, which I did I don't go, God this place is a dump. It's great. It's always been great It's one of the greatest arenas I think I've ever been in to watch a basketball game. ever Concourse. I'll be honest with you and this is going to piss people up I like it better than cllimate Plededge. I'm not a huge climate Pledge fan I'm not I think when you get inside the actual arena to It want. Now to be fair, I have not watched basketball, climate Bedge. I've only watched hockey. When you're I think you're in your seats for hockey. I think it's great. I'm not a fan of the concourse. I'm not a fan of everything else around it. I'm just not. I think it looks And then I'm not trying to dump on climate pledge and I'm glad it's there and it's because it's giving us the crack and all that. I'm just, it's not to me great And I know I'm not the only one that thinks that I know a lot of other people that feel that way that with my friends that you walk in then you're like, Yeah It's kind of cold in there. You walk around the rose garden and again You can walk all the way around, which you can't do a climate pledge Yeah And the concourses are big and it's fun it's great and the sidelines in there are wonderful Here's what, here's what and it's weird because people online it's gotten vict This is going to be a shocker to you. It's got very political down there because now we've just can't have common sense. it's become a right wing and left wing issue And it's odd that the people on the right Now we're in favor of the taxes on the city It's usually the you you know, don't want taxes, which is crazy to me. But what but hold on like hold on, let me just finish. He wants And I don't understand why people can't grasp this He wants the taxpayers in the city grade. The place you quote is renting, but it's not like a tenant and owner and people need to separate that He wants six hundred million dollars upgrade to the arena which his team is the primary tenant in that benefits that plays the most there. He wants all of that taken care of for. And what does he want Luxury sweets. That's what he wants more than anything He wants the luxury suites in the big pate sueites like you have at Climate Pledge Why does he want that? Because that's where the money is Who then keeps all that money and revenue from those corporate suites and luxury seating. He does keeps it all. No one else So he wants everyone to do the work for him and then he keeps all the revenue And some people they did they literally don't understand that They don't grasp at it He has been terrible. from day one fromom the t shirt thing down there. from not letting the players who help them get into the plffs travel with the team The fact he's let all these people go with the organization that works on the broadcast side. He has been cheap He hired a coach and gave the guy a one year contract Of course the guy' going to take it. There's it's one of thirty jobs in the league He'd be a full mot to do it But he's no He's got a one year contract He's an interim head coach. That's what that guy is No more I can't believe the NBA proved this guy Well, yeah, and puck you just go back to if you're Tom Dundon, if you don't like it I'm going to move the team So pay up or else. And you're right. The know other thing I was thinking about too was I used to love going to Sonic' Lakers game at games at the forum The fabulous forum. It was just, it was fantastic And then I just and I love LA at the end of the third quarter and all that stuff. It was just you know, always a big game and it's still big game when you play the Lakers. But then when I walked in Staples Center for the first time I thought I looked around. I thought Yeah, this isn't an average guy's arena anymore because they had two rows of swees up in the midsection And so they're just pricing out the little guy And that's, you know, I know that Sonics fans are excited about the Sonics coming back and everything, but it's not going to be the ninety Sonics prices that you were used to back then. It's good it A family of four, if you try to take take all everybody to the game at climate pledge, it's going to be like a thousand bucks s it's just going to be insane. But anyway, I just The whole luxury sweite thing. I suppose if I'm a rich guy, I want to I don't get rich guys though. I mean, what's your enough I mean Tom Dunan has more money than all of us combined and he still wants more. I don't get goes through Rich because if I'm Tom Dundan, I'm coming into Portland, I'm thinking Man, I bet you all these people are going to be happy that I bought this franchise and I want to make them even happier, you know, And he comes in and he's just like He tears up the place. He just trashes it. and I don't get it. I don't know It just strikes me as being a bad human being He is a about human being because I'm going to tell you what one of the first interviews he did. in Portland. You know, you know what he was wearing He was and people noted this. He was wearing a Hartford whaler's hat. And the whalelers are the team that moved to Carolina, right peopleeople were like, What are you because everyone was nervous about him anyways moving the team and then he goes to the first interview and whether he intentionally did that or not or he's just adult and didn't understand the symbolism Whatever This symbolism was there like, oh my Godd, he's wearing a Hartford whalers' hat. That's the team that moved to Carolina. And you're like, Is he going to try to do that here I think there's to past what he's doing. He either is trying to move the team whichich again would need the NBA to approve it. And God I I would hope the NBA and Adam Silver would step in and be like, you're not moving the team. We're not going to do this again. We did this with Seattle. It ruined it. It ruined that market And now it's taken us twenty years to even try get back there. It is Portland and the Blazers, I work there, I live there. means everything to that city. Every It is a cult down there. And that needs to remain. Those are the cities that this league should and also leagues should embrace cities like this and or He's going to try and flip it like a house and sell it to someone else. I don't know I'm just curious what the end game for him is and maybe the end game is that the city and the state crumble and give them the six hundred million. Maybe they do that But he has bigger plans because he did this in Carolina. He wants to build like everyone does this whole entertainment district around there. Well There is no land to build the entertainment district around there. You can't really do it there. And they've tried to do it there It's too hard with the probably the city council and everything around there to do that againgain, I He from day one has come in and it's been nothing but negative with this guy. Nothing positive at all And this and for people who Don't remember, this is exactly what Clayton Bennett did. It mean exactly to a te. Yeah If no, I just, you know, thinking about it, Puck. if I'm Tom Dundan, Ive come into Portland I buy this team I could be considered a local hero. I would talk to Canzano, I'd talk to Dwight Janes, Carry Eggers, I would talk to all these old time guys that have been there. and I'd say to them, Hey, give me an idea of what it's like to be a Blazers fan, the typical Blazers fan, because I'm getting ready to do my first press conference here And I want to talk to those people and find out what they've gone through and what it's like for them. I just can't imagine coming in and just againgain, trash in the place and being an asshole. I Normal people don't do that And I guess maybe you know, not that many normal people become millionaires or billionaires like this guy, but It just seems like a no brainer to me to handle things differently than the way he's handled it. I want to do a deep dive into it. you and the and the audience can do it. He made his millions or his billions in subprime auto lending. which is like the bottom barrel, the mud on the on the floor of a lake. Those people, you know, the fish that swim in the mud at the bottom of a murky lake You know, that That is No He's you know how are he saying Yeah, he is it's the worst of the worst The scum of the bottom of the lake That's how that's how this guy made his money. B right. You think we'll see other plays You think he'll get his way and shouldn't get his way No, absolutely not. Listen. if if they come to some agreement where the city goes in half whatever and they want to do a partnership fine, but to demand that the city pays all the money. firstirst of all Canzano and I have talked about this a lot. He's not By the way, like the main money guy He's just the face of it. The main they he feels the main money guy or the group because it's a group that he's a part of is actually the Panda Express group There's a c there's the two individuals with Band Express that part of the group and he thinks Kanzon thinks that that's actually the group that has the majority of the money. Thats actually am the back of pandic. I don't making much money Yeah Well, Pan Express pretty good No, I know it's pretty good, but I never looked at Tanda rested and I thought boy, there's billions to be made in that in that industry I'm going to tell you right now with Pam Express, you do get a lot of bang for your bucks Panda Express Like the portions you get for what you paid not bad. it can feed like three people. It's actually a great deal U your guy, Brandon Roy is back at Garfield and Jimy had a press conference yesterday at the school Okay, numberber one, howous he might die. I know that you're saying that sarcastically He's your guy. You love Brandon Roy Yeah but what he did the transformation at Nathan Hale. The job that he did there to win a state championship. That was one of the greatest turnarounds in sports history That was one of the biggest farces in Seattle sports history. Oh he took a downtrodden high school basketball team them back up to a championship level that we all respected and he did it on the up and up. He did bring in guys from all over the state and city and kids that transfer multiple times and kids on his team that was facilitated by Lorenzo Romar as a gift to be a coach on his team so then he could learn to his universe. He didn't do all that I get a kick out of it because everyone in town Lorenzo Romar always held in the highest regard and I I was in that camp too But he lost me with that whole thing. Hiring his dad to be on the staff because he wanted both Porter kids to come to Washington. That was a bunch of bullshit It was just so bad and so I don't know Puck. I don't know all the details of Brandon Roy. I know he played at Garfield. I know that he was fired and then rehired and All I'm not buying a brandon selling, but You know, apparently everybody else is to give him his job back Well used here here's what hereere's what happened. Here's what happened. So that when he was fired last year I was out and then it was To be fair He was fired last year and this was before and the girls basketball coach was to before an investigation went through was completed Principal at Auburn Mountain View school contacted the garfield the Garfield High S schoolchool incial alleging potential legal transfer of an athlete of a basketball player They alleged and there are receipts of this by the way. I don't think the Times has published it or others Um, and I don't It's been more of a thing that's been on like on Instagram and things where the player published it and showed it and U Todd Millis maybe of VarsCY News has it anyways They allege that Roy, several people were on a phone call, including Roy. in NB agent and they offered this kid whose family is not well off, struggling with money Well at the time one offered This kid two thousand dollars in cash paay driver's education an apartment in Seattle. and That's why he was fired. This comes on obviously the heels of Roosevelt So maybe the school district and the and the school itself panicked a little bit to remove him before maybe the investigation was Finalized He denied the allegations All of it The WIA confirmed to the Times that its executive board had heard the allegations Violation prior to june seventh. They approve the investigative report conducted by the Seattle Public School. So It came back and they said that they couldn't find anything Okay So He's rehired at Garfield Maybe he didn't do anything wrong. I don't know. This CD you side of what you think Do you believe that? Of course No, of course, I believe I mean, the team was terrible to she Listen, I watch what happened Nathan Hale. I've seen what happened at Garfield I see what happens at Rainier Beach. I see what happens J then I'm just talking about the basketball schools. I'm not talking about football and Bellevue and all those high schools But I watch what happens in Seattle with those schools And you watch it this year with Garfield. They'll have an influx of kids coming into that school guuaranteed is they were terrible last year awful. They were like Five and nineteen They won't be five and nineteen next year And they'll have a bunch of kids like, Ohh, who's that? Oh, it's John whereere did whereere Johnny play last year? Federal way? Oh it who's Alex? Where'd you play? I was down at Kent. Oh. I kind of have to When you said that whatever was paid to that kid was only two grand, I kind of half jokingly thought, well, geez, only two grand. He got fired for that. He should have given him more. Puck, I go back to not understanding. I understand at the college level especially now with NIL and all the money being thrown around or even before that when they paid players under the table. I understand that because coaches make a lot of money in college Bomb basketball. At the high school level, I just don't understand any of that I don't I don't like I what you get your ya ys after winning a high school championship with a bunch of kids who transferred in legally and illegally. I for I dont get it. Yeahs like the sim Yes. It's like writing down like it's like writing down I had a sixty eight on the golf course the other day and I didn't, you know, count a bunch of. I don't know. it's just It seems like it should come with an asterisk when you win a state championship and you don't do it the right way. And you can call me old school and old fashioned and all that, but at the high school level Come on before and before people start throwing because I know what people are going to do, this happens. It's just in Seattle in the metro. I'd be I'd start looking down at the South in schools And be real, real careful of throwing stones when you're in that Tallp, Sumner, Auburn area Real careful because that's you want to get into what baseball is happening down there It's in basketball. they're doing this everyone's doing this. It just we focus so much on Seattle and what's to the metro. what is the motivation? Th thinkink about that if you're winning coach winning Winning I know But it's high school What? I Come on I just I don't know. too me it would just mean more like Nathan Hale, let's say they ended up winning a state championship without those Porter kids. And it was kids that grew up in that part of town It just seems like it would mean more and it's just L when Nil and Hale did what they did, you have to put an asterisk on that thing And I remember I talked to a couple of students there. They didn't like having their school taken over by all these people. They just did And I don't blame them. If I was at Redmond High and that shit was going on, it would have pissed me off too It's not what high school sports is supposed to be about High school sports is supposed to be about for the most part your community, where you live kind of where whenever you moved into there, but for the most part, you went to elementary school that fed into that the next to the middle school or the junior high and that middle school junior high feeds into the high school And you kind of know more like that. Yeah. I mean I mean, to be honest, I didn't like that number one prep kid coming into Rainier Beach That that just was a weird one to me too, but I know there was a lot of hoop on. I know that you He said he's the best high school kid you've ever seen, but You know, to all of a sudden go from where where he was to to pick out Rainier Beach out of all the places he could have played. ye I don't know ver He's that let me just I'll correct you. I've never said he was the best high school player've ever seen, but he I he was good, but Not the best Well who is the best then And I've ever I think Michael Porter was better than him Of guys like, I mean, I got to separate it though of Gu I mean, those are hired assassins, but I mean I'll take Porter over. but I'll J actually Jamal Crawford for me was the best high school player I'd ever seen. Yeah, I never I never saw for my own eyes watching the best high school basketball player I've ever seen in the state my own eyes who grew up around here in all that And like went to the same school for the most part. I friends. but Who are they don Ram but Isaiah? Isaiah Thomas for me That's the best numers All right, let's get to before you go, let's get to the barge. We do it all the, you know Now that's the wrong one, but I have the crack actually this actually is perfect because I think I'm going to put I think I'm putting the crackking on the barge That's that's the other bds. Uh you have let's we do this every wee people practaces things does Yeah I'm going to get to the crack in this second They we put everything on the barge thingsings that annoy you. you put it on the barge. We ship it out to the sound that eventually finds its way through the strait and then we put it out to the Pacific Ocean. I'll just start first we talked about him Tom Dundan is on the barge and anyone down there defending Tom Dundan, you go on the barge turn Okay, Jim, who do what else do you got? You got anybody you want to put on the barge, anything a person place thing Okay, I'm going to put the cyber digital gods on the barge. What listeners and viewers don't know about what happened before this show started today, we went through a half an hour of my issues with trying to get us up and running and I swear to God, I put everything together the way I always put it together and they weren't working. And I just think that the cyber digital gods are up there going, Yeahah, we're going to mess with this old ass and bend again. Okay because I know he gets really annoyed by that gets frustrated. And so I'm going them on the barge. I'm sick of those motherfuckers up there. I really am. I can't technology on the barge Yes. Yes D. And I'm going to get that you know what, Cyber gods, I'm going to get that green light to work on my microphone and I'm going to change it from red to green in spite of your efforts to, you know, keep messing with me, but I'm going to get it. I'll get it back And okay the big puck. you didn't even talk about the World Cup. How come you're not talking about the World Cup today I mean on the b just you know, have you have you kind of floowed out in Elliott Bay and then we'll bring you back again The road cup so big Do you want to you exited? What do you want to talk about Well, that's in really. I don't I don't have much time. Well, then you're on the bardge for this. Yeah I watched it yesterday. It was fine. It didn't mean anything, but whatever it was good. I watched I watched it was back and forth watching it and then I then me and the vampire got into season four full swing. It's great. All right Which is great. I love full swingway. Hey what did not showing a turkey anyway. What the hell iss up with that? It's not turkey, It's tur Turkey A Well, I don't know, but it reminds It reminds me of do you remember R KE Y. I don't want the I don't want the damn highY E in there. Okaykay? Do you remember when Ueski Bettencourt changed his names like his name like fifteen times remememberies Ueski, then it was Janeski then UNS guy or something. You you remember that It three different pronunciations and you're like, what just you're not that good to change your name all the time. All right. I mentioned I'm putting the crack in her on the barge What's going on over there? You I list you and I knking pain ourselves to some big hockey fan puckheads or anything. them they can't get anyone This latest story that they apparently tryed to pull off this trade for this Jason Robertson guy This sign and trade deal that they tried to do this week An eight year deal. It was worth and again, in hockey terms, this is a lot of money and in real sports, it's not fifteen. I don't mean at real sports at h monorfld sports just like like the the other power sports might take offense to that I'm putting myself on the barge for saying coming out that way It's noting us He had a sign and trade deal that would have paid him fifteen million dollars a year. He would have been the second highest paid player the NHL. He turned it down he just didn't want to come here comeome they can't get anybody here ever What was that? As that kid say why he didn't want to come here? No that no one knows J just didn't want to come But apparently they' not really fly here. I don't know. He plays for Dallas. But anyways He turned him down. They can't get any free agents Is this not a place to live? Like what's what's wrong with why do people not want to come here and play for the Seattle Kraken? That is a major red flag Why no one wants to come here Is it not Okay, just on the surface and being a Hometown Seattle guy like you What You've been all over the country. I mean, Seattle is a great place to live. It is. And the other part of it neverbody in America to live. and I don't want to hear from people talking about anything else. It's a top five city in America. is the end of debate. And by the way, we were talking about Portland a little while ago. I spent some time in Portland a couple of weeks ago, the downtown area and everything. It was very fun. It was nice. Portland's great. Portland's great But I don't I just think they've got a problem of attracting people to come here and they need to address it. Remember they were going to do this internal audit that's never come out This internal audit that they that li Wiki sat up there and said that we're going to have this audit's going to come out. We're going to share it with with the fan base. They haven't shared anything Nothing. with anyone And again this this this whole thing with the Kraken makes me so nervous that they are they apparently without a doubt of the runaway leadeers in the clubhouse to get the sonics. It it makes me nervous. because they've shown nothing at all that they know what they're doing over there to running an organization Well, I go back to I relate it to with the Mariners, how I've always felt about the Mariners. If I'm a baseball player somewhere else And the mariners are coming after me. I'm going, okay, the ballpark's not that great to hit in, but they've never won a World Series. How cool would that be? J think about how legendary you'd be if you were a player on the first World Series Championship team in Seattle Same thing goes with the Kraken. I know you don't have the hockey history in the NHL with the Kraken in Seattle If you came here and you were first to do something and win the Stanley Cup That would be A motivation for me. That would be an incentive for me to come to Seattle. I don't get why that's not more of a motivation for players Last thing on the barge and we got to go Just all of Shinacock kills the whole thing. everythingvery, the course, the setup The stupid fans everythingvery All of it You never go back, but they will. the whole thing's on the barge You're not coming off with that one, are you Never. I just never and no one I'll argue with anyone till that I'm blue in the face on it. Tell me what is so great about that place bothered me the most is when you would see a ball Well, the first day Harry Higgs hit a ball that was, you know, he hit a shot that was ten feet within from the flag And it ended up fifty yards from the flag And I did aro It's That just shouldn't happen. Okay If you want, the slant of the green takes you off onto the fringe, you know, and then you have to chip up. But I mean, Harry Higgs had hit a full lob wed to get back to the green where he hit the ball ten feet from the flag. So yeah, that that part I didn't like. And and I know that goolf, the casual fans, you know, we see it in Phoenix and that type of thing, but To actively root against Wyndham Clark the way they did, that wasn't very cool rightight now very cool at all. we we leave you with this, Egypt Iran tonight in Seattle we'll see what has I mean, there could be just the chaos down there leadeading up to that game. eight o'clock and then Bosnia in the U.S. you're following this. You know this if the US. beats Bosnia in their next game, which is next Wednesday. They will play in Seattle. in the round of sixteen of Monday. july sixth, which would be really, really cool. and that place would be nuts. All right, you enjoy your weekend. We'll see you on Monday. fininal show on Monday for a little bit. and get you get a little break, I get a break, you get a break. All right, on this day, we go back to two thousand three both of these events happening in that same year First we head in the NBA on this day in two thousand three, the Cleveland Cavaliers down trodden franchise. They land Amazingly, the number one overall pick and they take a kid out of Akron, Ohio by the name of LeBron James with the number one overall pick. The rest is history. He would stay there, then he would leave and go to Miami win a couple of championships. He comes back and wins a championship there with the Cleveland Cavaliers alsoso in that draft two of the guys that he teamed up with with the Miami heap were in the top five Carmelo Anthony goes third overall, but Chris Bosch goes fourth. Duayne Wade goes fifth those latter two and James would team up there in Miami. Also in two thousand three Edgar Martinez two run home run in the seventh inning against the Angels of Anahheim. Why is that significant? Well, that home run passes pushes him over King Griffy Jr.'s Mark For the most RBIs in team history, one thousand one hundred fifty three. All of that happening on this day, june twenty sixth, both air in two thousand three We conclude every show with one final word. The baseball gods find a way come back and get you. They just do. I don't want the baseball gods to get the mariners. And they've been sacrificing their ability to go out and win these games because they are so hell bent on getting this piggyback thing to work and everyone gets their time in, enough pitches, enough innings. Meanwhile, they're looking at the division saying, oh, we can sacrifice it because the division isn't that good. When you start thinking that way Mess around with the baseball gods We went over the stat earlier since june fifth when we thought the Mariners were going to take off in this division. They have not. They've gone eleven in that spot. Meanwhile, the pesky little throw them away. We've moved past them. We buried them last year. Houston Astlros wentin eleven in seven during that span.
