I cannot do it We'll do it live. Okay we're do it line Do it live. I can I'll write it and we'll do it live Th sucks Oh man, right at the helmet at ninety six and Naylor is smiling. is it second L O the clbe Miny P is coming home to T roe, Jim. You know what? we should have just done the show right there was just your your video up there and just me talking. That would have been highly entertaining. All right. We're off to a stellar start. It's the aud we're probably going, oh my God, Jim' is gonna host a damn show today Oh, that' been great. That have been great. Just go solo. solo just for yourself. The daily puck drop it is Monday. It is a God of June. We're just it's almost're almost here, almost through it june eighth already. God Lord flying I was looking at the schedule for the summer. It's like it's like ping, it's over. It's good to see your face again. The video if you're not must be cold down a Bent. you got the jacket on, sweatshirt on. was what's the temperature in Bnd Oregon I just see, I got the old coop jacket on and just went out for a walk with the dogs and just got back and didn't have time to change and look more presentable. The hair looked like it was okay. You look hat today? No, you look This is by the way, this is for Jerry Neve, what I'm doing right now. I've got a better light on my face So, you know, I'm trying to Jerry because I was in the dark apparently. Jerry keep Jerry keeps emailing me and saying, Jim, you gott to get one of these ring things. Whatever the hell a ring thing. Do You know what a ring light is. I've got one. I can send you what it looks like. I don't. And so I just figured this thirty dollarars lamp that I have with an LAD light would work. So you're fine. Jerry, I hope you can see me better today. Jerry sends a lot of emails Jerry does. Jerryciates He appreciates the show. He love. Love Jerry very much. He's working on a sponsor for the Friday Barge segment. So hopefully Jerry can come through with that. Yeah, I love Jerry. loveove Jerry a lot. Thank you, Jerry. Thank you to all. You missed a great show on Friday. It took place from the Washington State ferry, the Walla Walla one of the last few that are still working Come on Yeah There are' many there aren't many they're working. No, no. It's one of the only ones that are still operational. but it was a great show. It was a great one. It was highly entertaining. You were all over the place I'm glad you're bringing back the barge I miss the barge. love the barge So it's a good thing that you're bringing that back. We put a lot of we put a lot of people on the barge, a lot of people. The barge was getting crowded The bar the Friday barge was getting crowded. I put Dick's burgers on the barge on Friday. Yeah why? Only temporarily. they get to come off. Normally when we put people in the barge, they never get a comeback, but Dicks gets the comeback. I want them to stop opening up new Dick's restaurants Where Where's the new one? T Layop Well, how many are there now? There aren't that are there? eleven is eleven. Can you name I can anyone on here name all eleven Dick drive ins No, I can just think of Lake of the city. I know there's Lake City. there's one in crossroads. Um God, whereere else? Well, the one up onit Capitol Hill. Well, just first of all, let's start with the OGs. Queen Anne Weanne Wallingford. Broadway And I would say the fourth one would be cronial. Those are the originals Which is the one on forty fifth Isn't that's Wallingford. Yeah, o. That's the first one. That's the original Wallingford is the original location. openpened in nineteen fifty four Fllowed a year later for the the location on Broadway Then two years later, Crown Hill, that's the one by me And then about eight years later, I think it was Lake City. Lake City. And then actually Lake City was before Queen Anne, but I consider Queen Anne a more of an OG than Lake City, but you I would stand I'd be standing I would say stand corrected All right, so you're bothered by the expansion of Dick. I think it should stop with the Seattle locations. It's a Seattle institution. It doesn't belong in Edmonds or Kent or Crossroads or Federal Way or Everett or Tlea Okay, I don't mind them doing that. What I would mind is if they chang the menu. What's great about Dicks is you got a menu that's about six or seven items long. You've got you've got burgers, you've got fries and shakes. And what else do they have? Do They have more stuff now Uh, well, they, they got ice cream, you know that All right. Okay. yeah, just ice cream, the shakes, the fries and the burgers. Yeah, that's it. Okay, coffee. keepe it simple stupid and that's what they've done for years and years. they if they elongated the menu, then I'd be out on Dicks, but no that's part of the appeal of Dicks is just give me a Dicks deluxe vanilla shake and two orders of fries every time I go there. I with you, but they've made some tweaks to it now or like, you know, remember because you couldn't ask I don't want mayonnaise or I don't want mustustard, I don't So then they had to like make new burgers to to appeal those people that couldn't get their their ketchup off of the or the mustard off of their burger, somethinges All right, well that's a bold move, though putting dicks on the bars. Again, it was temporary That's unpopular. It's a it was a temporary barge and then they get they get a comeback. All right? They get a comeback And I also put safeway in the cost of the rising cost of ground beef on the barge Well why you use safeway because that's where I went to go get it. It was just it was too expensense. It was thirty five dollars For how many pounds? two No No way. N two pounds. I'll show it to you. Two pounds for thirty five dollars. It just Maybe up here in in North Ballard we're getting charged a surplus more than more than anything because you know the the Hormz, you know, it's could be we blame it on the straight. Maybe that's where we get it. Mbe maybe Ballard gets their their ground brief from there. Well anyways, N on. let's not rehatch Friday. It's good to see your face again. Well nobody wants to talk about the Mariner game yesterday. Oh sure, there's I think there's lots to talk about there's fast I don need a lot to talk about but is anybody in a hurry to get to that happening yesterday. You've got a great new closers idea that you want to come up with that I think is going to be highly unpopular, but that's what I love about it Be it really, it really look, especially when you name the person based on what they did on Saturday, people are going to be like, oh, yeah, thumbs up. And then so we can get to that We can talk I mean, God, we can spend an hour on Josh Nayler I mean at least an hour unable. I can't wait. He's a friend of mine. you know I came in actually I'm a member of the family now because I entered as a member of a friend and then I left That's somebody else's line. You can't come in there. That's somebody else's tagline. God is that? What is it coming in D't as a friend? You know, these car companies that say that, they're so full of shit, man. Nobody's a friend when they come in Unless they pay us to say it, then they then we'll say it, We'll become a friend Well, I don't have any car companies as advertisers any Let's get you a car company. because you live in Bend. so either there's two things.ither there's three cars that you can only have in Bend, Oregon. Oh my God. and there's a video I got to play for you that someone sent to me. Oh got I gott to find it that reminds me There's only three cars you can you can own and bend Orgum. Number one and of no particular order is some type of pickup truck normally a Toyota tundra Number two, again, not in any particular order, some type of sububaru And number three on the list is some type of spprinter van Okay. Have I missed it? or am I incorrect? super I love it when you make fun of band Toyotavious a meat living here Toyota Tundra O Or a sprinter van? Have I missed a vehicle No, maybe Tesla's they're running around here today Yeah you see I didn't see a lot of Teslas when I was there Yeah I'll tell you, I ran into a guy on the trail the other day that loves goldie He's just like, Hey, who was that that was parked in your driveway? Oh, Yeah. Everybody loves it. It's a great van. It's a wonderful van. Yeah You don't see those you don't see those down in Bendnd. notot bougy enough for you people in Bend. No, that's true. notot bougy enough. evenven though the guy across the street owns one You saw that when you were? I did, I did. was that's a beautiful one. Yeah, a beautiful one. Okay, but if anybody believes that when you enter a car dealership that you come in as a friend, and then if you happen to believe that, that when you leave, that you're gonna be a member of the family and have Thanksgiving dinner with these people, you're out of your fliping mind Okay, that really bugs intoit out How are When Rick Riz Rick Riz tells me that Rick Riz doesn't even believe that when he's saying. How do you know Have you talked to Riz about a person? He doesn't believe that. I mean, he's probably a member of the family, but he's Rick Rriizz. If you're Joe Blow, you're not going to be a member of the family. You're going to just be a customer that leaves with the damn car God, that bugs me. Hey Volvo of whatever is it Samba Volvo?? I don't know, can't remember which one of it is. F of it. I'd love to be a member of your family Brother T, I know that you left Jim, but I'd love to be a part of your family if you ever want me to be a part. I know we went through a divorce. I had to get an attorney Unbelievable. I had to send, you know, a brrad. I mean I didn't know you guys went through a divorce. And and then we sent him a bill for the bp and he's like, I'm not doing anyore You aren't. I saw him. His kid was graduating with our kids over there. I saw him at the commencement ceremony I like, guys, thanks for ding me man. Was it cold? He thought I was being serious, you know. b upp at me. And I wasn't. I was just kidding around. I appreciated it Well, Brad, whenever you want to come Come back, Brad. we'd love to have you back. All right. Brian Turner though at a Clean streak, I wantan to fake him too. You know about Brian Turner in a Clean streak in Oak Carbor for a free estimate, give him a call three six zero three nine five five seven four eight or visit a cleleanstreak dot com all the cleaning services, one stop shop at a clean street. Okay. o. Thank you, Brian Turner. Well whereere do you want to go? Do you want to talk about the column that you wrote At Jim guyotubstack.ot comot That's your idea. I mean, you are being sarcastic and you don't like the idea at all. I think we can all agree that a change needs to be made at clloser though. I don't know if we all agree, but okay, continue. Okay, do you agree I'm not there yet Okay, what will it take for you to get there Listen,ss it's on thin ice right now. I don't know. I think he's had a track record of success H it been great this year? No mayaybe they can tweak some things and do some things differently with them. I don't know, but yeah, listen, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that this year for Andreas Munjoos has been great. It hasn't been great. He is and I'm not going to get we're not going to go knee deep in the analytics and the statistics and all that. I just going to go by your eyes Does he look the same? No. He doesn't look the same. He doesn't.s he's putting guys on to way too much. anybody can see that. it just doesn't look confident And any time he throws. I'm going to tell you this, I mean, maybe there's a stat someone could find it out. I'd love to know the st that any timee he throws a first pitch ball does that person how does that does that person get on base? What's that on base percentage of the of the hitter of the first pitch he throws it's a ball. I guarantee it's damn high because he just seems like if he cannot throw a first pitch strike that it's just becomes Meltdown city like watching my twelve year old skull a shot at the driving range I put it I'm going knee deep into the analytics, but since you said we're not going to do that, I won't I figured that you had all WRC plus numbers and fielding independent numbers and all that stuff. I figured you'd have that. No No, I just went knee deep into lifting material from other people on Twitter. That's what I was doing. I do enjoy that you wrote a whole column based on a tweet by somebody else. Yes. Yeah, Brady Farkas from Refuse to Lose podcasts. You know for five probably listen to Brady. For five dollars a month, you can listen to Brady talk about his idea of changing closers and then for another five dollars a month, you can re Jim, recap what Brady said. No I just suffer you got a double dip I just used it as a reference because he had four options of what the winners should do. not the closer situation.. And one of them is to keep Muno' as the closer and hope he works through it. Right. The other one's Matt Brash. The other one's Jose Ferrere, and then the fourth one is bullpined by Committee And I'm just offering a fifth one to go with Edward Pisardo. That's all. That was my idea. and if you're Okay, numberber one, if you're a team that's going with a six man rotation and you're doing the piggybacking thing, then why not continue to go unconventional and go with a guy like Edward Bzardo and just Edard Bizardo and give that a shot. And I know a lot of people would be going, well, Jesus Christ, Jim, that's a dumb S solution there or suggestion because there no doubt the home run to George Sringer But don't you see when you see Bizardo pitch, doesn't he have that panache, that pizazz That guy, he's got some flash. he's got the substance to go with a flash. He's not going to have confidence issues like Andres Munos. I can't even talk today. But Munos has confidence issues and I'm going, God, why does he have confidence issues? It seems like he I just had one beer yesterday, Puck, That was it. they're gonna one beer. Wh You don't like the idea of Bizardo at all, do you? I don't think he's got closer stuff, but I do I do agree with you a little bit with the confidence in the mox. Yeah, he walks in there and I think he walks into a situation and he doesn't lack for confidence I mean and that is that's the thing with Munos and I think that's his hurdle. I mean, his stuff is electric and his stuff was. his stuff was fine yesterday in terms of Velocity was healthy through a bitch one hundred and one miles an hour But he gets on that mound. He's talked about in the past. He hates when base rununers run. Now he didn't have that yesterday, but The second he put runers are on. Why does he put them there No, no, no, what I'm saying is thing yeah But he doesn't like coming into situations with basacemansning. You're right He But I'm just there's got to be a stat out there anytime that he throws a ball on this first pitch I would love to know what the on base percentage of that guy is. Either that guy gets hit, walks or gets hit And he just for some reason can't recover from that sometimes he does. he gets out of it and it's fine. But it's been, you know, it's You know, baseball iss a weird sport. I talked to Kruger brought this up when we talked this morning that you'll hear it later. You know, the ball yesterday that goes off Cole Young's glove, right? That's what leads to the you know, that would have been an exceptional play by Cole Young. Well, he made that play a couple of weeks ago against Arizona. didid he not H that ball. dropped against Arizona. like again, you're having a whole other discussion during that game of how that turned out So You know, I think that He is is he time to remove him? I'm not quite there yet, but I definitely think it's a discussion. I definitely think it's a I don't think anything's off the table. I think your Bizardo idea is not off the table. What I I wouldn't want to prefer him to see see him there. I'd rather see Matt Brash Maybe get the first opportunity. Matt Brashdough brings in his own little issue sometimes if he's not on, he'll walk guys. You just need somebody in that role, whether they throw hard or not that does not walk people. You cannot walk people as a closer. Cannot do it. Number one rule, don't walk. No one walks And he gives up to me walks. I mean, that I know that's basic understanding baseball and everyone knows that. Du. But I mean, it's just you cannot walk people And he's and he's just putting guys on left and right. So I'd rather see Brash maybe get an opportity. I'dather see Ferrei get an opportunity Throw him in there. He's there go back. Can we go back Let's go back to something you said just a couple of minutes ago. you cannot walk. anyone as a closer No, no, no, no, yeah, that was really insightful and God, a lot of people come here for that. This is the only place you can go But what? You kill me sometimes. Has Munios himself said to Adam Jude or Ryan Divish, you know, I don't like coming in when there's runners on base. Has he said that himself? Or is it just intimated that we assume that? I believe he has said that Okay Well, okay, let's just take that one thing about him then. let's say that's true that he doesn't like coming in when their're runners on base Doesn't that tell you that that's a fragile guy Like, I mean, come on, what a pussy. What the hell? You know, just get up, just get out there and fake, you know, you you're being called upon in a situation zero to sixty Is he not Just get out there and pitch. I don't care I like to think that when I'm coming in, if I'm ever coming in, hey, there's runners on first and second and you trust me to get out of this jam? Well, I'm going to do my damn just to you warrant your faith in me. That's the way I'd feel about it. I wouldn't be like, God, skip, you know, I'd really prefer it if You let me come in later, you know, when there's nobody on base. G, that's just and then losing confidence Usually a guy that in his situation, when you lose your confidence, you don't publicly tell anybody that. You just go You know, you might go home and say to your wife, God, I've lost a little confidence in my slider in my fastball. I've lost command honey And again you don't tell the world that I don't know if he's publicly said that or if that's just us talking about it. For some reason, I think that he has said that the best. But again, I may be incorrect on that one But and I agree. I wouldn't use the language that you use to describe it, but I do believe that he has got to get if you're going to pay this guy this amount of money, your closure one is got to have a You know, he's just got to have the the memory of a goldfish, right? We always you've heard that phrase a number of times. He's got to be able to forget and move on and not worry abouty You've never heard that. the mem You got to have you got to have the ability to be a four out poser, don't you? Well yeah, exposures for other teams. You see them come in the eighth inning with one or two outs and you hope they can get through the next F or five outs I just is there a way to is there a way that Pete Woodworth and these guys can teach him that when he pitches, he doesn't need to foallllow to first base I'm sure they've gone over everything. They must go over every single thing with Munos. but Has it has it reach it hasn't reached Bobby Ayala proportions, Jad? No, no, no, no. I No, I don't think it has. How about Fernando Rodney that experience. S, But Rodney's the case of of what you described. He's a guy that yeah would get beat up in several games in a row, but he'd come in that game with those bloodshot eyes whatever he was on and he would he he was a bulldog guysy' coming after for you left and right Yeah, I couldn't get enough of that That arrow thing I love arrow so much. I have a t shirt. I'm going to wear. I'll wear it the next show. I'll wear it. I have a t shirt of him shoot the arrow Wonderful. Yeah. I don't I mean, I don't know what so you made the go read it I don't think you've really you've got into your reasons with Bizardo. Have you given your reasons other than just the confidence, right? You just think that because the confidence that he has, you'd like to see Bizardo going to shine Yeah, and I just like the flash. I like a closer that's got a little you know zip to him, you know I just just I mean, we're at a point where you got to try something different and he represents something different that might work. And I'll give you another name that I don't know if Brady Farkas said it or whoever else you're pulling ideas from to write your stories Steie You know tomorrow tomorrow I'll see what River and skky think Yeah I wouldn't even mind because I think he has this mentality, the way that he carries himself, the kind of the his panach out there is is he's angry. I'd like Gabe Spyire. I wouldn't mind Gabes Spyire. Now again, you're taking a guy out of a role that He's there to get left handers out, which I again, now you would you'd have to replace him. You got Ferrera, but you you needed to anyways, can you get somebody else out there? But I like I love Gabespire Abe Spyer gets all that mount and is just dirty and nasty and get and he got out of a hairy situation this weekend. And he's he's dirty and he he's Fiery Like kind of closers are. He's getting Norm Charlton kind of in him, right? He looks like them throws on left side It does Yeah, that's a good option too. I think everything's on the table Except for keeping Munoss as your closer. I think you've reached a point where you should try something different. I even like the idea. I know you can't talk him into it, but you know, why not give Luis Castillo a shot at it you could say, well, that's stupid, but it wasn't so stupid for John Smoltz or Denis Zckerston. It seemed to work out pretty well for them. Yeah maybe at some point, sure. mayaybe at some point. they could try him in that role. I maybe they get to that roll. mayaybe they get to that point. Maybe maybe the six man rotation this idea that they're running through is one just to you know, keep them All fresh, mayaybe it's a way to showcase Louis Castill at the deadline That could be an option why they're doing it So he do we like the six man rotation? I do, do you I mean I haven't seen it y Well, we go sure at once. I want to see it I want to see I want to see it you in its full And it's full in it's full breath. Yeah, sure. I don't care. Do doesn't bother me it helps it's a hard one though, because There's pros and cons on both sides of that when you look at it because you go, geez, you know, this might be in the long run, the best thing they could possibly do for the health aspect of it. But at the same time, you're thinking Geez, I'd like to see Woo every five days instead of every six and certainly Bryce Miller every five instead of. Well I think the one guy that maybe in and I'm just going to steal Kruger. I think the one one guy that it could bother would be Kirby I think it's helped Gilbert. I think it will help Castillo I think it helps them all. Miller, I think the guy that benefits the most is Brian Woo And Bri always just has arm problems I was never going to be He's giving you two hundred plus setitttings. I mean, he's not gonna ever be that guy But you know, it's sad to say, but Kirby at this point, I think we'd be okay seeing him, you know, every seven or eight days or maybe every ten days. Oh my God. stop it Wa Stop Am I wrong?ould you wantna take George Kirby out of the rotation now I don't want to take him out of the rotation. I'm just saying in light of how he's pitched recently. I mean, are you in a hurry to see his next start? He has been that bad God. that bad I mean you go his last four starts. It was last three start. Gorge George Kirby stats. Sure. Go ahead. Last four starts. I got him right in front of me. See what you think Well I know what they think. They're terribies is seventeen ninetine hour. Have you have you gone it haveave you gone in and nitpicked every inning out of that every game out of that Go nitpick every every game and tell me in one of those games he's got like two infield hits that bounce off a base that leads the runs I'm lucky. I know. was it was a flimsy point I was trying to make because I do like George Kirby. Yeah, I know you. But he hasn't been good lately. That's fair All right, Josh Nayler. what did you think? There's a lot of a lot of antics this weekend from Josh Nayler. He has not not made friends with the people in Detroit. Let's There's we can talk about There's the plate at home plate where he throws the sliding bit at the catcher. There is the play at first base where he runs and makes contact with the guy run the rookie running up first base Th then there's the two plays at second base and then of course, he gets hit Wh let's first start with the throwing of the mitt, the sliding mitt at home. What did you make of that Yeah, I didn't really I didn't see it live and the first time I saw it was this morning and u What I read in the game story was different than what I saw. It sounded to me like his comments in the game story were that Yeah, I was trying to get it off and I shouldn't have had it on and and it just kind of slipped off and that was the feeling I got, I thought, well God, that sounds like Naylor. He's a stand up guy and he wouldn't do anything to you know mess with the integrity of the game and then I saw it and he threw it. Of course he did. Yeah I mean he was like And so I'm kind of going, well, why did you tell reporters what you told them when actually what you did was throw it hoping that Dingler was going to you know, might distract him and cause him to miss the ball or whatever. So I don't blame the Tigers for throwing at him for that you Uh no. Not at all. I have a problem with how they threw at them. Yeah, that was too close to the head. That's that's too that's head oning too much. You want to hit them, hit him in the butt Hit him in the ribs whatever, don' throw his head. And they threw it his head Now you can say maybe the pitcher got away it got away from him or whatever That hits him in the helmet. Now we're talking some serious issues. What about the play? You know, one more thing one more thing with that though Puck. It just crossed my mind. So the Mariners are celebrating fifty years this year, right Has there been a team in the last fifty years of baseball that is less reluctant to charge the mound than the Seattle Mariners it's like, you know, I mean, that for a lot of teams That would have inc cited a basees clearing brawl out there on the mound. And yet what happens? Josh Naylor just smiles and laughs about it So anyway, I I don't the mirrors, I mean, I would love to see at least one fight a year with those guys and I don't think they average fifty fights over their fifty. I don't know. I mean, okay, so what's the then what happens though? he goes out there and injures himself, but are you happy that he injures himself and or and all that kind of stuff? Yeah I'm really happy about that. I hope it's season in. Yeah.. I mean what do you think? I what am I going to say? I think I think his teammates expected him to get hit I think his teammates were probably like, yeah, you should get hit for throwing your sliding m at him. he threow it at the catcher, like whatever, we can laugh it off. But if it was the other way around, this is no different by the way. any of you hypocritical Mariners fans and we're all out there. This is no different than Alex Rodriguez running up the first base and slapping the ball out of the glove. It's no different what he did to the It's zero. He threw his sliding mint to distract the catcher That's what he did All right, whatever you. I don't feel Josh Naylor is a guy that we all love in Seattle.ine for good reason But if you're an opposing player or a fan from another team, you don't like him. you don't like You don't like all the bullshit he's doing out there with the signals and you hate that. If you if he played for the Tigers or played for another team and they're playing against the mmerriage, you' hate him. You would absolutely despise Josh Da. But that's f why. He's our guy. Now the place at second base. I got no issue with it. That's old school baseball. That's the way baseball should be played It's terrible that they've tried to take that out of baseball. It's awful That's I love that. Those slides a second were great Yeah I mean, even people even people had an issue with the first one where he just slid. like Well, he slid all the way through the bag. So Yeah, but, you know, getting thrown out in the ninth inning when you're trying to get an insurance run and then and then ready get ready getting picked off. Yeah that was not good. That was not good. That was not good. not good at all. I think the only thing I would say to him that I would probably as the team. if I were Dan Wilson, I'd have a discussion with him is to play at first base because it's not where he could have easily thrown it to Brian Woo to get the out He's not only putting the other Tigers player at risk there of getting hurt because he's running right in front of him, right in front of him And I really don't know how a lot of fans can excuse what he did He's going to hurt himself. I justest really don't care about the Tigers player That guy runs into him full speed where he crosses over the base like that and knocks his right shoulder out and now he's out for six weeks with a separated shoulder. It's stupid. This stupid play Yeah just th to Brian Wu. That was the easier play anyways And it's out That defense Yeah overall this year his defense has been generally good, but lately it hasn't been That's a cou couple you know, I'm probably wrong about this, but what do you think on that that that error that they gave the wisdom on the throw? I thought that Naylor should have caught it, although people on Twitter were telling me that If he had caught that ball, he might have gotten hit by the runner. Yeah, would I agree. I mean, it wasn't like wisdom short hopped him and it was a throw that didn't pull him off the bag and yet they gave the throw the air to wisdom and say I agree with Eric Radovich there third baseman. Oh, it was the third baseman. Okay.. If Eric was scoring at home on that play Yeah Hey, love I always love giving Eric a hard time. I know you do'. How about our favorite college quarterback is back So apparently you can just no problem. You can just bet on college football. You can bet on your team to win and lose. you can bet over two nine hundred times. You can bet over thirty thousand dollars on everything. And according to this judge out of Lubbock County, he's like he's like our version of Libby In Whitman County, this judge, this Texas judge says, son, I don't care what you've done. I'm in Loitt County. And if I rule against you, son, I'm hung. I am dead on the street. So you know what? you're going I'm going to li I'm going to give that injunction. You're going to be a play foootball No brrow. And is he is he playing for Texas tech Yeah, of course 's playing for Texas tech. He's got his punishment's got to start the first two games of the season againgst Albeline Christian and the be against the beves That's hilarious. There aren't rules in college. There's no rule. justust no r. There's no rle. M do whatever you want. I thought you werere going to mention our favorite college quarterback coming back. Ryan Lef being in the USA today lead announcer, lead color college football announcer. I'm sorry you broke up. I didn't hear you. I didn't I should have known better on that one though, Puck. I Ken Curry, the judge He I believe is a University of Texas at Arlington graduate. and I believe got his a law degree from the University of Houston. He says, you know what, son, you can play football. You can play football these. What was that really based on? How can that be okay to gamble as much as that kid did Noay I have no idea the Judge Ken Curry ruled that Sresby's attorneys demonstrated he will quote suffer a probable imminent. and airrearable injury If he's unable to play for the Red Raiders in twenty twenty six What? That he can't gamble on them to win or lose anymore? L don what injury no one's preventing him from playing football anymore, J not there. Go to the NFL Isn't that kidding his fifth or six year two? I mean, I mean, he's transferred. He's thats this is his third team now Yeah. Makes no sense, Puck. actually, I miss you know what? I was wrong on the figure I think the thirty thousand was just when he was started off at Indiana He wagered approximately ninety thousand dollars on professional and college sports over four years, including forty bets involving Indiana football when he was a freshman And wasn't it one of those kids too that would bet on what the next pitch was going to be Ball or strike? Probably. It is just unbelievable, man. I mean, it really is you really just can do it just doesn't matter anymore. NCW rules no will go to court. No, that court doesn't rule. We'll go to another court. We'll eventually find a judge like they did, like they found in Lobot County Wh is just be stupid to rule against this guy. Stupid. He's not a moron. and he's like, I know how football is down. I know how people view football down here. And if I rule against this kid, I am in deep trouble. And so he ruled and fith just did it. Now maybe to go to another. it just this is the NCAA has no teeth. They can't do anything anymore There's no punishment. I mean, think about all the people that have been I mean, all about all the scandals that we've had in college sports. peopleeople have lost their entire collegiate amateur careers over this stuff and don' screaming the hypocrisy of the college football and being allowed to bet on it There is a huge difference between you and I and the public being able to bet on football bet on college football. and I wish in this state we could bet on college football, but we can't. There's a huge difference between being able to bet on and being a player When you're a player, you cannot bet on it They's just a rule And it's not it's not being hypocritical. It's a rule You can't do it That shouldn't have to even be said. Wow, but some people are so stupid in this country. They just don't get it Imagine what that kid's going to go through this year. Every single place he plays except for his home stadium. peopleeople are just going to be on him, you know. Or, you know, if he has a bad game, even you know, Texas tech fans will think, Ohh, you're on the take, you know, you' on us to lose Anytime of year he's going to hear it Yeah, absolutely. An anyt time he has anything that Ges wrong. You know, yeah, there will always be these implications of gambling Okay, moving on. I was I don't know about you. I was very disappointed yesterday. I did not like seeing Nelly CQarter make a quarter make that put on seventeen because I was cheering for my girl Oh Charlie Hall. And she would have been the best celebration ever if Charlie Hall, my girl would have won That US open You would have seen stuff going to the middle I mean late into the night early to the morning chain smoke like you've never seen anyone chain smoke before in your life I got Charlie Hole does it for you, didn't she? Oh sh. Did you see Nelly Cord' Pot on ' eighteen? Unbelievable That't sure that didn't go. I don't know how that stayed in If there are golf gods, truly golf gods, that ball should not have allowed to go in. It shouldn't have been allowed. And you know, if you and I had hit that putt, it would have circled out and we would have a three foot left three foot or left. So well that was it was I was fixated on that this weekend. I was just hoping that Charlie because I just wanted to see her get the trophy and then as she's waiting for like as they're doing the long drawn out, you know, where the sponsors are talking forever and the tournament director. and she's just over there just sucking on a daggers. We got Andres Muno's Is it decision time We're going to talk about the Josh Naylor antics, the good and bad The week that was Mariners baseball The first two go rounds with Bryce Miller Luise Castillo, not doing the piggy back. All of it was we cover the week that was in Marinerss Baseball oldld school baseball, Bill Kruger joins us every single Monday. C course his weekly appearance all brought to you by all A' concrete coatings tired of that messy garage, garage floor Bow and the pros there at all Aes are going to help you design your garage into something beautiful and wonderful. You call now, get five percent off your purchase if you mentioned my name All right. Wek that was Ms baseball. good and bad They go three and three disappointing series. We can start there first in Detroit, Obviously a team that is scuffling themselves You had it right there to take two out of three from them. But then they've got the late inning collapse. there by Andas Munz who will touch on just a second, but give me just a kind of overall view of the week that was. U for the mariners Well, they'd been play a great baseball, you know, coming off that that streak of eight straight wins and then they lose the finale against the Mets, but were really too shook up over that because he w eight a row, right? Uh, and then they go to Detroit And they they let let the last one suck to their fingers. It felt like they were going to win the series that they were the better team. It just felt like that was going to be the case They had a for one lead. It became a for three lead and the next you know was five four loss Yeah, we could talk about Andres Munos. he had pitched in a week and blalked a couple of guys, you know, he's been struggling with his control But I think what's the underlying issue Beyond Bunoos getting on cQ, which is critical. I mean he's, you know, there's there's a lifespan of pitching and you're going to have some stretches where you don't pitch as well this year hasn't been particularly good for him. He's had He had the one sideways game against the pod Rise. you gave up five. That's going to, you know, you know, vault your ERA up. But I think, you know, betting average against two forty seven You know, hits to innings. Yeah, the walks, the walks yesterday, but really not that far off his walk percentage if you look to last year. I mean he's always walked a few people but Ls in two hundred forty seven, he's used to the career is at one hundred eighty two. But let's get to the point I was looting to is the fact that because they are short in the bullpen and there's a big drop off between the leverage people and the guys that kind of pick up the game when it's even or behind Chris Wall and Hoppy And you know, going to Chris Wall again did not work I've mentioned that I don't think he's a guy you want to pitch when you're ahead. He's definitely a guy that mops up when you're behind He's got to be right on par. He's got to be pretty cute with his control because he doesn't have overpowering stuff And you know, he gives up a couple runs There's your story right there. And why is that happening becausecause we have six starters. That's why We're sort of bull pan on her Now whether there's a bullpen arm that can help us beyond what Chris Walkon gave us Or can the Mariners get more out of their started pitching since they're getting so much rest They tried to do that with Brian Wu. They started in the seventh inning and then ended up pulling in with the b is loaded down three two You can you can you can junuggle the balls in the air and make your call But maybe your guy like Brian Wu can you know, stay in the game and sort out his own problem. He had ninety pitches. So But we can argue that Rleblays missed that ball and didn't play it well. It was a line drive right at him. He hasn't play a lot of baseball And that showed up. It's so interesting. now. they don't pinch it for Raally and they don't They don't think of him as a better defender than Rileley Be in close games, they're keeping really in the game A because they like his bat. B. I think after watching that play, they're afraid of roleplace Even though he's got that reputation for making all these diving plays and being this elite player when they've had a couple of opportunities to use them, they haven't But to get to the point If you're going to go six man, these guys got to carry the ball a little bit further I mean, I think they tried, but you know, I mean, look at Castillo's game, you know, they got they got what five five and two thirds out of him, but he's pushing one hundred pitches. We talked about Castillo in my opinion is a guy that can pitch into the one hundred and fifteen s, but of course, we're never going to do that because We know that's the beginning of the end for any pitcher when they cross over the one hundred pitch line, bad things happen Brian Wu, ninety pitches can argue bases loaded one out shouldould you have come out of the game. It didn't work out. Pizardo gives up the line drive, roobl misplays it and that game gets out of reach. But I think, you know with Munos He has no margin for error, but then the Mariners have no margin for error because thats that's the kind of game they play. They play more one run games than anybody in baseball. They won three in a row, three extra inning games earlier in this streak, but then they lose yesterday. They still have a losing record in one run games. That's got to turn around. But you're always tempting fate when you're always playing in the one run game. You're looking for perfection And they've not made it easy on themselves because they're short of bullpen ar So what's the solution there That's the question, right? Maybe you could pose me the next question. I don't know what the solution is, but we could certainly bat it around. I would just say that I think to the to the naked I think to the fans eye. He doesn't look right this year. I mean, he's almost he's close I he's to five blown saves this year and he had seven blown saves a year ago. It just feels like and there's going to be every stat that we can look at in terms of you know, the the normal stats, the analytical stats of just the, you know, how he's pitched this year. I just think when you watch the game every night and you see him come in. he just doesn't look the same kind of lockdown Andre Munels that that he's been the past. There's been a lot of traffic. He's walked a guy. He'll hit a guy. He'll give up a little base hit. sometometimes he'll be unlucky, but whatever. There's just a lot of traffic every time he's in there And so I guess I wonder what would be What would be the next step for him? I mean, a week off for a closer. you tell me. I mean, how How Rusty, if you don't pitch in a week and then you come in there I would assume that would to have an effect on him. I don't know if they can do something if they face an issue like that again where they can get him some some time to I don't know, mimic a save opportunity If they ever were going to pull the closing roll out of him for for a minute, who would you who would you turn to Is in a hypothetical world who wouldould it be bad This would be the next best option I would probably say Probably Ferrear He's done a little bit more. He did it earlier this year pretty well. He's having a good year U He makes sense. We have apire back now to face left handers. So he could do it if that's where they wanted to go I don't think they really want to go there yet As I watch Andreres, he's always had, you know, he's a little bit flawed mechanically. He has a tendency to fall and open up really fast toward first base. I mean, have they tried to get his weight over the rubber so he squares itself up to the plate a little bit more getting on balance at the top is delivery would be helpful to square himself up so that hes struck he lacks. He's able to sort of direct the baseball where he wants it to go , he's never going to have pinpoint control. But he's not landing his slider And you know, his fastball now they throws a two scene fastball and ball move So I mean, what could you do to sort of fix it without having to overhaul it Well maybe put the forcing grip back in his hand He pitched as a fourth seam slider pitcher until about three years ago And then he went to u Here's my light. Anyways, it's coming back on, I hope U when you what're trying to go in the nighttim? I mean, is thisruger It's it's an off where you there it goes. It's an office where they you if you don't move it like I know anyway' doing some jumping Jacks in between questions Right. So so getting back to Munos, maybe putting the four seamer back in his hand. Just to get him on the plate a little bit more Plus with the four seamer he's got the ability to hit the top line. the ball doesn't slide off the top line. And then he he's developed a change up for Lfties and that looks like a sinker kind of he throws at n ninetine and ninety one Got to get his slider touched back. G to do some flground work on his slider to find his touch We used to do the kind of the dry bull pens earlier in the afternoon sometimes to keep guys sharp Bpen guys would just throw a couple minutes just to get touched Yeah on the mound So these are all things that I'm sure they're doing But I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that it's time for him to be jettisoned out of the closer role. I would I wouldn't go there. I think you'll find it U but little things he needs to do to get better For seam grip get on balance on the rubber, get the front shoulder going toward home plate. Those aren't really like horrible fixes because those are normal fixes. That's not changing anything. That's just if you want to be successful, you got to keep your front shoulder toward It's like, you know, pointing your shoulder much like if you were shoot an arrow at a target, you know, you've got that front shoulder pointed and u That's what you want to try to do. anyy pitcher has got that front shoulder as the guide And his front shouldver gooes east west big time really quick. m So he's got to stay closed a little bit longer Stay on Ballk his weight over the rubber I know these are boring topics. People wanted to say, you know, out with him in with the new with the bad in with the new It doesn't work that way. This guy's been a long time closer for this team and he's not perfect. He's really tough to hit and he struggles with command even when he's good. he's really tough to hit. But he struggles with command. He's not per My differeerence, you know, in a closer is guys that don't walk me because rocks hunt Walks Hunt. The great poldiers didn't walk people Eckerslely, you know, Rivera. I'm not trying to put them in that class, but if you want to be in a leagite closer you don't walk because then it takes three hits to score a run And it's always with him to. it feels like if he doesn't land that first pitch. in whatever at bad it is, especially if it's a ball. It's hard. It feels like He doesn't land strike one, it's hard for him to regroup after that. For whatever reason Harl, I know he has But it's hard for him to dig out them The the leag's not swing with it They're not swinging along with. They're not they're not swinging with and they're they're they're making in pitch. They're making and throw strikes And if he doesn't, they just take That's what's happening right now. That's a your reputation kind of procedure. then, you know, suddenly the u the u the strike zone feels like it's shrinking on him, right And then he gets careful and then he's thinking about it And then he's thinking about his release point. all the stuff that happens when you're not pitching with confidence. So confidence is a big deal. And with the greatest players in the world to the guy that's the twenty six man on the roster Confidence is everything So it would be nice you know, if they get a game where, you know, it's eight to three and They need to fish the nightth inning Letn Pisonight You know, Leather pitits the ninightth rather than trying to put him in someplace else in the game, that would make him feel uneasy Let it piss the knife and just say you can get some work in, you know, go out and, you know to get an inning in instead of like letting Hoppy mop it up, let him throw it in I mean, he's not he's not overworked at this point. He's not We saw the stuff yesterday, one hundred one miles an hour hundred. Yeah. There's nothing wrong with his arm speed. It's all there He couldn't he didn't land his slider. his fastball is moving off the plate And, you know Murphy's law. You keep walking people. somethingomet bad's going to happen Right Well hits off the off of Young's glove and and we lose, But you know, you go back to the game where we stuck with Castillo in that game where nobody's warming up and they were determined to get Castillo five innings and he pits through that gauntlet of hitters in that Diamond Backs game where, you know, the ball is caught by young And that would have been a game that we would be talking about today likeike what's wrong with this? Why are we going to our leverage guys, you know, just end up working like a charm, right? But that's baseball for you. Exactly. What did you make of I'm going I'm going to call it the antics, but but that has a I guess a negative connotation to it is antics, but just overall I guess Josh Naylor what what transpired this this weekend? in Detroit. And and I don't know which way you want to take it if you want to break down like all the individual stuff I mean, there's there's some things that might have An issue with most of it. I think just one thing. There was only one thing I had an issue with And what issue with him. Well, he looked like that the crowd was on him a little bit and he didn't seem to care for that too much, whether it's because he's a u I kept hearing this USA, USA. Was he aiming they aimed that at every player that doesn't it's not from the United States? What was that who was that group of people? Is they aimed at everybody from across the border. They're ripping on you. played for of w lot of fans from Windsor they come to J great games You better be careful., you know, that's a that's part of their fan base. You know, yeah, he's had his, you know, success and you know, he's got a bit of a Uh, I I'll kind of a arrogance in a certain way, swagger in the way he plays. and You know, the hard slide, the throwing of the oven mit Is that what you're talking about? things I'm thinking about. Well, here's the yeah, I think there's there's, well, there's multiple incidents. There's the throwing of the mit There's the slide into second base, which I didn't have an issue with at all. That's whatever. He's playing baseball Thats baseball He was straight into the base. The the I think the issue that I would have and it's not because what he could have done to the other player. It's what he could have done to himself. It's the running to first base because he clearly did that on purpose He could have easily thrown it to the pitcher But if he he collides with that guy at first base There's a chance that they both get injured And and I do think he puts that other player at risk when it could have been avoided And I think that I think that's a fair thing to look back on. And I would just say to Josh Naylor, Hey, it's not that you would have injured I think was McGongle, you injurered him. You could injured yourself and we need you The oven mid. I mean, it's kind of silly. You know, whatever I mean, obviously honestly, I know threw it off, but I was more focused on play So I kind of lost the the whole the whole ovenant throwing it off your hand, I don't whether he was doing that to try to make it so he had De finger, dexterity. Oh, he did it to distract the catcher. That's why he did it of course Yeah. Well, you know, I mean, this is a guy that looks for edges. He plays with an. I don't my smart player And, you know, I mean, in my day, u, the oldld West would solve this problem if another team had had enough of his antics Right? Well, but but they did it, but okay, But we don't do the oldld West anymore. The oldld West is over Yeah, let's go back to the play at second. You and I we don't have a problem with the play at second. No Okay, what about the play it first I didn't didn't didnt register with me. Okay. I guess it I guess it wasn't that big of a deal. you tossed a pitchure, I suppose. He kept it ran at first. He beat the runner. I guess Zonan Until until he smears him, he smears him and we felt like he could have tossed it, then we got something to talk about, right What did you think about their retaliation towards him? I'm all for guys getting hit. Yeah, you know hit one But when you start throwing it up near the head isn't that that is crossed the line I guess. And he got drilled, right Yeah, you got hit. He got hit in the shoulder, but it was it was rising. I mean It looked like it had a chance to really clip his head. and I mean He laughed did He did. He laugh He laughed You know, I mean, I guess these are things that that become that they they they they they come off the screen a little bit stronger for people because u I don't know. We're looking for We're looking at things like that. H' we're going but it good. We just don't see him If you were pitches are part of the part of the baseball that I played for up ten years. But when you play did you did you try to aim for the head when you hit a guy O course not You're trying to hit him in the roribs, rightight H in the ribs, know, mid midsection of the body Um, you know Probably that's what he was trying to do. I don't imagine he was trying to hit him in the head I don't think any pitchers' got that kind of intention going on Okay. So yeah, I mean, I think I think, you know, all these things start to pile up and we've watched and play for a while. So it's a little bit more in our focus. U when does it become an issue? Uh, you know, what you don't want? is u The other team taking umbraidge on other players because of his antics That would be bad, right S The game is so polased Nobody can really get after you. I mean, honestly Um, and he's got a little bit of like, do you really want to mess with me? kind of look about it? Oh I don't think I would mess with him Yeah I don't think I think he's got a little bit of that going on. So a little bit of I mean, you're going to get a little bit of this from a guy that plays so hard on the edge. C course he got nailed on the try to leave early and stillo the base, you know, he tried to play his trickle toes swindstone didn't quite work that time and he got thrown out. I mean, his game, in my day, we hold runners. We hold runners. He did. He would steal half a dozen baseball bases a year, you know, just this this, you know, and I think some of this I kind of worry because I watch, you know, Julio and Randy, they have no clue under to runun I mean, N was trying to hit and H was dancing all around the bases out there. What's he doing? Stand there and let him hit Okay, quit jumping around because he ended up faking the bnt because he he got distracted by Julio. this is a mid mid game at Bat. And then just in general those guys they run without a lot of thought about where they are in the game Mhm In my opinion, you know, it is easy. It is candy It is the Halloween candy set out on the ro door on the doorstep. We talk about that And because because stolen bases you can't hold runners Yeah I think it's I baseball. Baseball is, you know, o my God, we're holding cabis But you and I have talked in the past. it's like the one rule we don't like. We don't like the engagement or the disengagement throwing over there. just we don't. And we think that's part of strategy in baseball. should. Yeah. off course it is. Yeah. Yeah, there's two rules I would change back. would be that one and I you know what I want I want the intentional walk to come back, Bill Kruger I want the catcher to stand up the hand out. ter to throw over. I want it back. You want of the why thing is there's an there's an art to it. you and you can also throw it away because we've seen it throw you can throw the ball away to I've seen a guy think Barry Bondbs did at one time. We stepped over the play hit the ball But the other thing, I just like the crescendo of the booing. That's what I enjoy more than anything. It elongates the stir the upset fan that doesn't want his best hit or being, you know walked, right? It just sort of happens and of a sudden we're like, Oh, I guess he went to first. Yeah I just was right The intentional walk. gu's what it was. The beauty of the sound, the natural sounds of the sport were just booze. it's It's why you know the disengagement of throwing over there. I like when they do it multiple times because I've never understood why people get mad when the pitcher throws over and your runnerss account the mouse of the game. I mean, we just, you know what? we're going to take we're going us serve everything out of the game Yeah just completely and, you know, anesthicize the games. There's just no no strategy, no no st like that One day one day when you and I take over the the the sport of baseball when when Manford is done. And we run it. We bring it we bring it back Dad do Yeah I do, Jase. And and I'm with you on that. We're going to Hoally that whole, you know, chabang. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. All right. He wasn't awful awful But certainly Pi didn' live up to the number one overall pick that everyone envisioned him to be. He was sixty six and ninety six is record in large part, not based on him, but based on what the team was I had the ERF four point three eight. back in the day. He enjoyed his best time in his career of his fourteen year career and where he went right after that. He went to the Oakland Athletics where he pitched four years It was great team was better. He was sixty six and forty six in those four years and his ERA was three point five four. You're like wondering, well, who was takaking second overall? whoo could we got some better? The college football system is broken. The NCAA made the right decision, but there's no one there's no teeth to it. There's no governing body to it right now they can actually enforce Rules like this. He broke the cardinal sin any sporting level B on the team Whether he bet on the team to win or lose, it does not matter Every player knows that once you put on that uniform for whatever sport and whatever league you're in you cannot bet on it. And he did and he did a lot O three thousand bets Over ninety thousand dollars wager This type of this type of stuff, this judge the ruling this judge did this ruling down in Texas for one reason and one reason only because he's a judge in Lubbock County and because honestly, I'm not exaggerating. he probably feared for his life If he ruled against that and held that suspension up He'd probably have to be put in some type of protective custody because of how crazy some people are about this And particularly in that state So he did what he did and made the ruling. did it probably more for himself than anything This is the wrong decision. It's just an another awful message sent in the world of college athletics and how just completely screwed up it is someone like this pays no punishment Addle for their actions And it calls into question every time he steps out on the football field and makes an errnd throw. Some type of play where you questioned It will always be in the back of people's minds Does he have money on the game? You've allowed now f just to say there this judge has allowed Now college boards, which really had no governance and no rules to really have no rules. at all. for what that decision was made today. Again, another sad state of affairs there in college athletics with Brendan Soreresby being allowed to play again. And then the punishment is nothing. He sits out two games one' against Albin and Christian the other one's against Oregon State There's no punishment at all Zero whatsoever That's it what the puck brought to you by Tersuli construction, restor what matters and building. what's next.
