That certainly is a B big topic there for sure. All right Mariners head on the road. takeakeaking on the Pittsburgh pirates. They' forty and thirty nine. off course, a game and a half up right now there in the American League West And a team that's reeling a little bit notot a little bit they are. there they've underperformed. I think it's safe to say and everyone agrees they've underperformed. Now they head out to take on a pirates team that is playing good baseball. They miss Paul Skeeens, which is I guess a good thing, but also a bad thing because I want to see Pa Skeeens pitch What's interesting is there'll be no I've determined, by the way, we're not I'm not calling it piggyback anymore because because I can't stand using Piggyback anymore. So I've got a new name for it, which is nothing great It's not original, but it does afford me and allow me to play this song the tag team. No word on tag There's no tag team this week against the pirates. A guy I am as confused as ever what they're doing. I thought they all were doing it for the rest of like until the break But not no one's tag teaming this week. I guess the tag team is back on in the Guardian series, but whatever. I mean, it's kind of foolish all everything that they're doing with this thing. You know who doesn't like the tag team? You know who' who's not a fan of it? William r But Miller's been so efficient and so good. he's pitching better than anybody in baseball And ends up being he's the first guy of the shoot in this quote unquote piggyback scenario Hey, look, there's no, there's no, there's no good strategy. around this at all I mean, there just isn't. There's no good strategy Behind the piggyback, there isn' There's no reason why you do it He's got Castillo has twelve starts and one quality start. EA North of five. Everybody else has got five or more quality starts pitching eighty to ninety innings, have an ERA that floats between three and four, giving them six innings that are close to a start. Those are the other five guys. They're all pitching great Why? he's the outlier There's no other way to cut it He goes to the bullpen, he gives him a chance to win a couple times a week by spotting him in the middle of the game All right there is the tag team. We replaceed Piggyack with tag team just so we can play the damn song. Yeah, it's a mess. They've created themselves a mess with this whole thing and they're trying to find solutions, dig themselves out of a hole and and try to appease everyone when really the The obvious, I guess thing for them. and there's always got to be an odd man out And I think I think in a weird where they're waiting for one of these guys to get hurt so they now now we're off the hook. W They got they got to make a decision. No one likes it. Miller even said it after the game the other day again. He does not like it. So the tag team not this week against Pittsburgh, but apparently back on there with the Cleveland Guardians. I it's it's a number one on the on the rundown and I don't know how much I want to give I guess attention to this This is what I talk about when I get on social media and once it goes dark on social media, I got to get off of it because then I'll get down a rabbit hole. But there all of a sudden this Josh Nayler hate online. Are Aarina fans hating on Josh Naylor? Like I've heard Josh Naylor. I've heard this now being thrown out on social media. He's quit on the team that he's got his money and he's over by people. Are we serious? haveave people fallen on their heads? Like I mean, it's's I know it's hot outside It's supposed to be like ninety days So sometimes the heat does some crazy things to people. Are you people nuts that questioning his desire to win because he's he's had the yips at first base on some throws. Yeah, it's I think there's one guy on the team that I certainly would identify as a guy who's who got paid and quit on his team not be Josh Nayler. Yeah, that that's Some of you guys, I mean Jesus, mother of The team's not playing well, I get it I go down there and tell him you's squit on the team Yeah, Josh Daylor, I think is the least guy I would be worried about of quitting on the team byy the way after a slow start to the season offensively. I mean, he has turned it around last fifty seven games. He slugging over four thirty six and his OPS is close to eight hundred Not like he's been a disaster. His defense's been poor this year. We've talked about it all year long the question his desire to win an effort is the one of the there's a lot of laughable stuff on social media A lot of it I laugh. I mean, it's genuinely funny And in stuff like this, it's so absurd and soft mork that it's laughable. question of guy's desire away. How many injuries do you think this guy's playing through right now by the way How many I me just pick and shooes do you know I he's got like six different injuries he's been dealing with continues to play in post. mostost every single day. Yeah, let's question his desire to win. All right, you know who we're not going to question? Well, were actually we are going to question him because we're going to throw questions at him. How about that? And I learned that the pack twelve Baseball tournament next year is going to be in Cor Vallas. had no idea. Had no idea until I read it this morning Johncanzano dot com. His weekly appearance brought to you by Flatstick Pub. That's pretty cool there. Cor Valas, the Beeves hosting the baseball tournament. I'm in Yeah. I think it's interesting to see that the pack twelve is doing a couple of these things. likeike, you know, the football championship gamees going to be held not at some neutral site. It's going it's not going to Vegas. It's not going to Sofi Stadium It's going to be held at the highest seed home field They're doing that with the baseball tournament too. And I think they're going to try to create a little bit of a baseball festival, maybe a mini Omaha feel in Callas where they could close down the street and they could make it about baseball for a few days. Some really good teams in the in the conference as well. You saw Washington State make it to the to the regional. you saw Oregon State get there. you saw, you know, you've got teams like Fresno State who have been traditional baseball powers and you see, you know San Diego State and Gonzaga. This is a good baseball conference. So I like what they're doing with this. It'll create a little extra for that community as well But you, I think this is good for the conference to get back to its roots All right We teased it last week. I want to clear out for you. This is This is Jordan in his heyday. This is Dean Smith at UNC. We're going four corners. IO Okay. This is all you. You've Can we reveal your big personal news? Yeah, well, look, I've done radio for twenty years and you know that radio world It's not dead, but it's changing. and just like the world of newspapers is changed and television is changing. You know, I turn on the, you know, the TV station and I see younger and younger people on on, you know, the more established, you know, bigger markets. And so Um it's no mystery what's going on there, but Puck, you know, look, I have For the last Four or five months been under wraps. I haven't been allowed to talk about any of this. We have teased it a number of times on this show. I have not told anyone about this, U I am in effective July one launching a new show. It'll be on YouTube among other places, but we'll start with that. It is sponsored by Adidas. Adidas has come in as the presenting sponsor of the show. It's going to have a big time college football presence and impact. It'll be more of a regional show to the West cooast. We don't really have a regional college football show that is dedicated to the West Coast, but I want to give a voice to the conferences and the athletes and the teams that are in the western part of the United States. And we see all of the noise coming from the East Coast. And I think it'll be a lot of fun. It'll be Monday, Wednesday, Friday on YouTube, one hour show each day. Big guests, one big guest each day I going to come out of the gates firing. It will not be exclusive to Adidas schools. You know, that's something that I want to be really intentional about. like, you know I want I want you know, Oregon coach Dan Lanning's going to be welcome on the show as well as, you know, coaches that you know are from around the country, but Um Tuesday, Thursday, it'll be an audio podcast. that Simulcast of the show will be offered to some radio affiliates that are interested in taking it. Some of my traditional affiliates may take the show. So you may hear me on the radio still, but the primary place that it'll be Monday, Wednesday, Friday is on YouTube. So make sure you go to Johnconano. com And you know, click that YouTube menu and just make sure you're subscribed so you get that first that first episode that comes down the pipeline and then For people in the Portland market, every Saturday, one of the shows, one of the one hour shows, will air on KGW, the NBC affiliate in Portland. So a more localized version of the show will be there. I think it's the best thing for my audience. You know it dovetails nicely with what I'm doing with the writing platform. and great to have a partner like Adidas in with it. There's some others that are joining as well But I'm gonna have a lot of fun with it. I think it's going to be great Conggratulations. It's a lot a lot of work that you've put together here in the last few months. It's got to be it's kind of a little terrifying, agonizing and but exciting at the same time, I would imagine. Yeah, and here's the thing, like, you know, justust like with the newspaper, I held no ill will when I left the newspaper, but I felt like the ship was teetering, right? And I needed to get off and go do my own thing And you know, I had a similar feeling with radio. I think as you did as well that, you know, look, it's not dead. That format's not dead It's not the same as it was twenty years ago when I walked in the door, but a new operator bought The station that was broadcasting my show primarily in Portland. My contract ran through July one. It's coming up uh, the, u the end of the contract And in December, they just, you know, they more or less just came to me after twenty years and said, Hey, if you're not resigning, we're pulling you off the air today And you know how that works. Like I had no non compete in my contract. I would have been happy to work through July one But they just, I guess they didn't know me. they didn't understand me. And you know, and so they just said, okay, you're not going on the show today. And it happened to be this is what kind of urked me It happened to be a Friday where we were doing a fundraiser for the BFT Foundation, the five hundred one C three that helps kids with art, music, education and athletics And the new operator who came in didn't know it was the radion Friday. they literally wouldn't let me go on air that Friday to go do the fundraiser. It was just a it was just such a classless move that maybe just underscored to me that I was making the right decision.. It is that industry and I can only just speak to the radio industry but I assume newspapers and TV stations have followed the kind of the same script. It's just's changing a more cold and calculated business It is lost. It's like I want to say family oriented, but this communal type of atmosphere that used to work there where everybody was enjoying their work They liked going there Everybody was kind of go you know, rowing the boat in the same direction. It just was a, you know, when I started radio, it was so much fun and for, you know, half the time and more than half the time, the majority of the time, it was great. But then, you know, as bigger corporations come in And you know, like Iheart end up buying it. It's just, you know, eventually these big media companies strip it down And it's sad. and I hate to see it. and I don't want people to lose their jobs. I don't hope people ask me this all time. I bet you hope KJR thinkinks, I don't I I honestly do not I worked twenty plus years there. Great times. I loved it there. It was a dream job. It was fun But I separate KJR. from IHart I hard I cannot stand. I mean, like that is a whole different thing. But that's you know they' what they're ultimately going to end up with like I still think that there are some shows. like my show existed as its own ecosystem. Literally I had somebody from the company that purchased the two hundred and fifty stations that were owned by the entity that was broadcasting my show and somebody there say, Well, your show is its own ecosystem. Gosh, you have advertisers that have been with you ten, fifteen years. you have You you operate sort of like this island within that world. Those shows still exist out there and those are you know, those are our friends that are doing those shows that you have worked with forever and you wish them no ill will. you want to support them and what they're doing. What's going to ultimately happen here because I can see it coming is you know, they all want to save money. And so what are they doing? They're all moving towards syndicating shows. They're getting away from local programming.. I found it really interesting that the company that bought that acquired my station, you know, in the same breath almost where they were telling me, hey, we're going to pull you off air today They I said to them, well, you know, I'm probably just going to syndicate this myself You know, I much like the writing thing, I realize at some point you don't need them anymore.. And And so The minute I said that, the guy said, Well, we'd be interested in carrying that show. And I just thought to myself like You know, if you're interested in carrying that show, let's carry the show. Let's talk about that saves the money. It just anything they can do to save money. You're going to turn on the radio one day and you're going to hear the same show in Des Moines that youar in Boise, that youar in Miami, that you it's going to be the same show everywhere. And that's what and that's what makes, you know, the newspapers or TV or radio so personable because it it's in that market, right? You're in Seatle. you're talking about Seattle spports I don't, I don't You know, I don't know how much time people will spend I'll spend thirty seconds on it today talking about the Yanestrade, but that's a national storyline. I'm you know it's hyper focused on Seattle. The biggest thing that the crime that's happened in radio to me over the last twenty plus years has been what has happened to smaller markets that I when I graduated from Washington Washington State, I went and worked in in in seaside in Astoria, Oregon. calling small games in small radio stations, Longview, Washington, Th are gone. They're all they're just gone now being replaced by bigigger corporations that come in and then just have the same voice that voice tracks everything. And we've lost out on doing local play by play You know, where where people would graduate from college, they they cut their teeth on that You know, how many how many small town newspapers are there anymore? Are people graduating from a journalism school and moving to Boseeman Montana to go right for the Boseman free press. I don't know. I don't think so anymore. they're dwindling, they're falling apart and that's sad to me. There's nobody coming behind this generation of of, you know, people who are working in these jobs now. and and everybody's stretched so thin. I do think it's why you've seen some independent voices that have popped up. I think it's why readers have come to read me at Johnczano. com. I think it's why you have an audience here at Puck Sports that people go, okay, I trust that this person is sourced They know what's going on. They're going to talk to me about what's going on.. My aim with the new show, you know, look, There was a reason that that I ended up in the office of John Miller, the Adidas president I like what he's doing They're bold. haveave you seen what they're doing with the World Cup? I mean, I I went I want to be with that group. and what I loved about it is I had a conversation with Miller And he said, I need you to be free to do your show. You don't have Adidas breathing over your shoulder. You don't have him telling you what to say. He says, We're just there because we know you're going to do a good show And I appreciate that. Like, you know, that is very different than what the feel you get in a lot of radio stations that have sponsors, corporate sponsors looking over your shoulder. And so I'm excited to see what it can be. I think the show will go on the road to some fun new places. it'll be cool. Very, well, congratulations. canan't wait. So just Monday, Wednesday, Friday it starts july first. on YouTube, regional collollege football show, one hour show on YouTube sponsored by Adidas. That is correct. Yeah, I'm an extra large and a size ten by the way. And And then the Tuesday Thursday, the Tuesday Thursday audio, ye. Yeah will be an audio podcast because because what I want is look Here's my thing. like I went to my seven or eight radio affiliates in Oregon and I have said to them, hey, I'm doing this show. If you want to simulcast it and you want to take the audio, Have at it more the merrier. Like I just think it's great. And then KGW I sat down with KGW and said, here's what I'm doing. And they were like, we'd love to air one of those shows on a Saturday. And so you know, in the Portland market, I think people will be able to see it on TV. And on YouTube, it'll be you know, wherever you need to see it. And guess what? You don't have to pay to see it Come come come watch. Great. Well, congratulations Let's stick to since it's gonna to be a college a themed of a college football show Let's go to college football to save the Coege Sports act. It is it's cleared its first hurdle Now we'll go to the floor House and Senate. We'll see what happens. Dum Where are we at with it Will it be tweaked And will it appease the big ten and the SEC Yeah, it's this is this is a wonderful thing, right? It It's an attempt to hold the Big ten and the SEC in check. That's you know, Michael Baumgarner, the senator there from your state in Washington told me that you know, they don't want the SEC and the bigig ten to run away with this. And And I think it's important that we notice that This seems to be lawmakers in states like Texas, where Senator Cruz is from Texas. He's co sponsoring this bill. You know, yeah, he's got Texas A and M and he's got Texas and in the SEC But he pointed out, you know, he's got Baylor. he's got SMU. He's got Texas tech. He you know, there's Texas state The vast majority of schools in all of these states are not in the SEC in the Big ten. And so there's a whole bunch of support here I think they're ultimately going to force the hand of the SEC in the big ten. If those entities want to split off, if a TV network thinks there's value taking the best schools from those conferences and creating something new I think there's going to be a have at it moment And I think what we really are facing is this existential crisis for college athletics. Does Greg Sanki, the SEC commissioner and Tony Petiti, the big tank commissioner, do they want to be the people who dismantled colloege football Or are they going to fall in line with the rest of this? But I think the lawmakers are going as full steam ahead as they can, trying to get this legislation passed. And you know, look, it's a big newsday in Portland. Blazer's got a new coach. I'm sure we'll talk about that. This Cege Save College Sports A is one of the most important things going on nationally Like a lot of people, I don't have a lot of faith that lawmakers can fix it But I'm glad somebody is trying to galvanize everybody who's not in the SEC in Big ten against the SEC in Big ten. This is good for the ecosystem. So what what would actually prevent because the first thing that comes to mind and you repost it, I read it. It is a terrific piece that was written by Pat Fy What would prevent the big tenin of the SEC of just saying? Okay ' We're just going to leave and create our own league. We'll team up with ESPN. and Fox and we'll bring you will'll bring Notre Dame and we'll just create a super League and we'll we'll leave in they'll leave the NCAA. Let me if they were to do that Would it just be for football And if it's just for football, what does that mean for the other sports because I would if I'm the NC of of AAA, I would say to those schools, you do that Y your other sports are out. They're not coming. We're not going to rep they're not going to be represented under the NCAA banner. Yeah, I would force I would not make it easy on the SEC and the Big ten. Now, it can't just be the SEC and the Big ten leaving together. I believe there would be so many lawsuits. there would be an antitrust lawsuit. I think they would have to leave to form something else They would have to defect and say, Hey, we're out of the big ten, We're out of the SEC. were' forming something else and not take all of the members with them. Like is Purdue going? No, Is Vanderbilt going? Is Mississippi State going? L I have questions here about how many How many teams and how many schools would be involved I think there's also There's a there's a consciousness thing that Greg Sank, Greg Sankke came up on campuses He was the in charge of the inner murals at his first job, right? He understands college culture and campus. I don't think he wants to be The commissioner that blew up collllege football. But if you're the rest of college football It's time to call their bluff. You didn't do it with the CFP. You took bad distribution model. You put yourself at a horrible disadvantage. You should have galvanized then. But I think in the last eighteen months, we've seen the Big twelve and the ACC suddenly wake up and go, wait a minute We're closer to the Pack twelve and Mountain West than we are that Big ten and the SEC. We are losing sight of them from the front windshield of this vehicle. And so I think there has just been a real awakening here and it's really a power too But I think if you're the rest of college football, you've got strengthen numbers, you have geography, you have more lawmakers in your corner This is the this is the line in the stance hand moment for college football Is there any language at all and any discussions you've had with Bumgardner or Cantwell or Cruz? to regionalize it or no.an they Can government get into that I think that they're hoping that that's a byproduct of it. I mean, Michael Baumgardner told me that the fact that you've lost regionality is absurd. Aen you know, part of the This bill, it made noise, you know maybe four or five days ago, you know, where they put in a provision that said, hey, if you're in excess of seven hundred million in media rights or in revenue, then you can't make expansion and realignment moves. Well, everybody went, o, does that mean Washington State Organizate can't get to a power conference? It doesn't. It doesn't. There's language in there that says, you know, only An independent like Notre Dame would be locked in place And anybody who's in one of the Power four conferences would be locked in place. But I have problems with that even because It locks Stanford and Cal in the ACC Like you just been given a life sentence. like you so I kind of think like maybe As this legislation moves forward, what's going to happen naturally is people are going to go, Hey, wait a minute, is this such a good idea to have Stanford and Kell in the ACC. No, let's get them back out west Maybe, you know, is that a new entity? Is it Is it the PC twelve We don't know, but you need to get back to regional competition, particularly in the Olympic sports. It just this is insane When does it hit the floors? It's in late July? I Yeah, yeah. And I think, you know, I was told here's what The quote that I got, it was like, hey This has been a spectacular few days for this bill. There's still a long way to go. And so I think, you know, we're going, you know, what what will ultimately be the thing that comes up to vote, Will it have new amendments, new provisions? I thought it was really fascinating because I always watch those Saturday morning cartos, how a bill becomes a law, conjunction junction. what's your function? you know I thought I knew And then as I'm talking to the lawmakers, I realize I know less about that than I should. L I'm kind of embarrassed to say that. And so I I was like, well, wait a minute What's getting voted on? How does it get off the house floor? What are they What are they ultimately passing through? Why are people making amendments to this thing as it's moving along the process? You know, it doesn't, it flies in the face of logic. but U I think what we're ultimately going to see is we're going to see something presented at the end of the rainbow that the Big ten and the SEC are not going to be totally happy with. And I think that's good. Yeah, I do too Someone has to rein it in And usually when government gets involved in things like this, it's not good. We'll see where it goes, but there needs to be some regulation for the just the the sanity of the entire, whether college football all of college athletics. All right.. Let's move on real quick. before I get that Blazers news we'll we'll get to it Give me your thoughts. We don't talk a lot of golf on here, but this is not a golf story. This is a behavior, a crowd story. This has become a societal issue This day and age that we're in now in twenty twenty six, how we view sports, how athletes are treated now is much different than it than it used to be. What did you make up following the Wyndham Clark a story coming out of Shinack Hills and and how the crowd reacted to him and booed him and were constantly being negative to him. and and cheering on Scottty Schuffler U Well, I mean, the big picture is Scottty Scheffler's chasing a career grand slam He's doing it on his thirtieth birthday The fans love them He's likable. He's on the tea boox at the first tea there entering that final round. He's standing by Wyndham Clark and the people the gallery is singing him happy birthday So there's a There's a hero in this story and there's a villain in this story. and Wyndham Clark has earned that Distinction is the villain He has been very good on the golf course in these majors, but he's also been a baby. He, you know, he tears up the locker room after, you know, hitting a bad shot, you know, what was it two years ago He throws a club on the course. He He's just not well liked. and You know, the fans were jeering them and Booing them. Some of that is the loss of civility that we've had as a society and the fact that we think that, you know, that gallery rope, you know permits us to say anything we want or tweet anything we want But I think really at the root of this is he makes a good villain and he's not well liked. And so everybody's criticizing his ball drop and you know, o, would he break he didn't break a rule. It's playing within the rules. But I just think it comes down to New York didn't like him and the gallery wanted Scottty Schuffler to win that thing. They didn't come there to see him win. They didn't come there to see the Joker win, right? B Batman and Robin need to win that thing I know I'm going to probably be criticized for this and be in the minority when I say this. I think I think Scottty Scheffler let a moment slip past him. I think Scheffler when it was going on and on could have done something said something, stop play and been like, stop it But again, I know that's not his responsibility. He's in the middle of trying to win a major. He's locked in. He cannot control the crowd, but the crowd is so pro him. And you can say, well, it's kind of if they get on him, maybe he'll hit a bad shot. I totally understand. But that sport is different. There's there's supposed to be a decorum with that sport You govern yourself It's very different than all the other sports. I thought there was a moment. I would just say this to Scheuffler. I thought there was a moment lost for him to be above the anarchy that was taking place and maybe say something on a hole on a tea boox on a green. We had to see if they would calm it down. but I wondered when I saw that If Shefford didn't like Wyndham Clerk Like maybe the players don't like him either. You know, he was banned from that course where he tore up the clubhouse. He had to apologize, He had to do anger management You know, like It's interesting to me because I think golfers have always been and tennis players too have always been viewed as, oh, there's a different etiquette to the game. It's a gentle, it's a peaceful. It's it's a classier game But I think, you know, they they probably were breaking tennis rackets and throwing golf clubs back in the day. It just wasn't on wasasn't on social media. I guarantee these those back in the day, those lockers, what happened at Oakmot has happened a million times. A million times. But we didn't have cell phones taking pictures of it. I mean, you tell me Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods didn't just obliterate a locker room after a bat. I mean, come on. you know, he he, you know w Macarro smashing rackets on the court Yeah. But he he's not helping himself either Puck Let's, you know, Scheler could have stepped in and done something classy and got, hey, everybody settled down. you know, come on. Even his post game in his post match stuff, he's like he takes two questions like I'm done talking about this. Yeah. like really? But but if you're Wndhem Clark, like he goes to the event in Canada. He wears a USA hockey jersey when he's goinging out to the course. L That's funny.. It's funn He's a villain He's okay. Lex Luther. I like Gene Hackman as Lex Luther, you know, Rase. Yeah. All right, Blazers got a new coach. I know nothing about this in this Mica Nori. I'm not really interested in Mica Nori's history. What I'm interested in is that the guy gets hired and the Blazers give him a one year contract with a team option. Well that's that's G, you got to be feelelt real confident about your future there I think they hired an interim coach, you know, like the first time in history that that has happened. Look, he's got an interesting story. He was a baseball player in college. He ends up as an assistant coach in, you know, he ends up in the NBA as an assistant I think so a lot of people saw this coming. I think big name coaches that you had to pay for were going to be off the table. I just kind of wonder though, you know, looked I'm waiting for Tom Dundan to do something that that I go, oh, that was smart You know, he lost Tiago Spllitter who I think at least would have given you continuity. You could have probably got him back with a one year Extension Why let Splitter go to the bulls and then you end up with Nori who by the way, team option for year two. Okay, let's say he goes out and he kills it and the bllazers want to keep him I mean, Given what we know about the NBA, anybody there believe anybody in this audience believe that Mike and Nori wouldn't just go, I'm not going to coach. I'll sit out a year and force the bllazers's hand. like, you know, he's not going to be okay doing this. And I just don't know You're trying to attract free agents. It just kind of tells me that Tom Dundon punted He wants to You know, he's going to punt. I think they're going to punt the, you know, here with the draft. I think they're going to punt with free agency. They're going to punt with trades. They will do nothing. I think that locks them into anything in the next year or two while they try to figure out that arena thing. And, you know, there's there's a standoff looming potentially with the city who I think has misplayed this and Dundon's group who wants you know, a formal offer in front of them. They want to know, they want to see the city's cards and the city to this point has said, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, we're on board. You're going to get what you want. . The clock's ticking here Last thing for you. I'm not sure you're aware of this, but on this date, june twenty third, nineteen seventy two Title nine was officially signed into law They say there's there's there are reports. they say that since it went into law There you go. perfect little. nice job a product placement there with the girl dad coffee mug I was that highigh school sports participation among females has increased and it is increasing over a thousand percent. You obviously have daughters. I have a daughter that that's played sports I think you look back and it's hard to imagine a time before nineteen seventy two. And thing the thing that I am blown away about when I go to sporting events, girls sport events, women's sporting events, The quality of play From when I was in high school to now It is just such an astronomical jump And it's so cool to see it's so cool to see young girls Be so competitive. likeike competitive as any guy that I see on a field on a court And they've got that same DNA now. and I just love watching them We've watched that. L there's not many things in our lifetime that we've got to see evolve like that. becausecause you can remember like, you know A game a women's college basketball game in nineteen eighty nine was not a thing of beauty You know, it was station to station it and now we're You know, in the last couple of years, we've been locked into the women's elite, the women's final four. So we've got to see that. There's not much in sports that I think you could say has accelerated in that way. And my youngest daughter is the greatest example of it. I tried to talk to her about that. and tell her about the opportunities and You know, what wasn't available. And she looked at me in disbelief. and I thought, wow Like she has no idea at the age of ten about, you know, what opportunities were not there And she she's a competitor. She's a killer. Look, lookook out. Yeah. All right, we'll be looking out. All right, congratulations again. That's gu it's coming up. I'm just looking at the summer. you know, summer started and I swear. So and they and two of them came to team Mile to present them And he got, you know, choked up emotional talking about them and the cleats and how much they mean. and he promised he'd wear them. and he wore them the next day and just dominated. Yeah seven, seven shut out So then he's got two more pairs that he's he's going to wear But when we talked about it and I did his line at the post game, I said, hey, It's gota be his shoes and would appreciate And I'm like, does anybody he anybody out there at that? So you're playing playing tell everyone who you're playing with. O old buddy this speaking of a blast from the past back fromer like ero eight zero nine Utility infielder Josh Wilson. was good little It was littley nicknamed the paper boy because he looked like he was twelve years old. It's good to see these guys before the interviewer We're just going to play gol. All right. A you Is this part of Fairways and fastballs? Oh is update back. I appreciate you Update. Yeah. I've been talking to stations trying to get find a home and it's just a little too late this year Most of the sponsors have spent their yearly budget for ads. so we' We're feeling strong about next year. I think I've got a partner and we're going to talk in off season and hammer out. hopefully like a ten episode U show, so I'm very excited available anytime Appreciate that. I'm available to play. Anyim you want to go play great course I don't know if you see the rund downown there, but we brought up his shoes. I mean this online, you seen this like online discourse like people like fed up with Josh Nayler all of a sudden. All of a sudden Josh Nayler has come into the crosshairs of people And they've now all the rage is now now' Josh Nayler is mailing it in Yeah. I'm sure that's I'm I'm sure that's exactly what Josh Naylor is doing. He's decid just to got my money and I'm done playing. That sounds about right for Josh Nayler Yeah not a competitor that doesn't want to win. Yeah. Yeah, fans are funny. Do doesnn't burn anymore. There's no burn any desire Fans are funny puck. I don't know. Now he has made a few throwing errors lately. has been good on defense. I mean and it's, you know, when you have throwing errors, especially if you're flipping the first No, you know, I guess it doesn't look good you make that error, but obviously that yeah, there's nothing to that Well see I mean. I don't know why iseve hereere's the thing about I don't know either. I think what happened though was last year. I think he set the bar so high for himself because it was. He was not regarded as a good first baseman when he came over. R. That was one of the negatives about him. thesey' not really that good on defense And then he got here and people were like Oh Jesus. He's actually pretty damn good. Remember sameame thing with Ty France. Remember when Ty got here? Yeah like where this guy going And he's like something for short portly little first basement, don't we? We do M can field. Yeah. How how about our guy JP at third He's looked good. veryery impressive. right He look good. Yeah. They're weathering the storm. I just sa how how many more injuries they can they can take I know. it's can out of control when he pulled the Hmy if we're running a first, you're like, come on man. Uncle Especially the game he does It's a home run off a left the opposite field like this is now the crowd like me waves their hands as. why isn' he playing every day So you can use that. so he made a nice play right field, but he's on the trip. So he's very confident that he'll be able to play hopefully today. So I' try to think who Who is not who's banged that Rill' better. Yeah I think they're all J all available, right? Just a lot of nagging stuff you know, with Randy Band Rerated. Yeah. And he's eligible to come off today Yeah. So hopefully we'll get good news there And then eventually, hopefully, you know, Donovan comes back and he's been working out at T Mobile, which is great Yeah, that's that's that's just going to take some time. but he' getting closer. Here's the good news is is least it was in a scrum, but when Miller talked about it after his last start, at least it wasn't just you asking a question. Hey, I was a start. How do you like the pigyback? I don't like it at all, Brad. I don't like Last he did it in a group interview. He gave a very similar answer and I just think that everyone kind of had the same reaction when you if you read it or just saw it like L he's not It's not happy. I mean, I don't know how anyone can be happy with with it right now, especially when he was pitching the way he was pitching. It's It's it's I don't know tough a tough decision what they're doing putting the players in just a tough spot Everybody is. But at least this time there's better communication and it's going to be quable where everybody's going to be doing it. So I'm not sure what the next tandem Yeah, who is whoem do they dw names out of a hat that they've got it. What would be the great way to do it? A better way than that. L you and I would do that. I' know a draft but just like a draft. All right, Gilbert, Logan, you got the number one pick. Who do you want? Yeah, who do you want? Yeah, do they match styles or they want contrasting styles or And they're all somewhat similar, you know, being all righties and a lot of fastballs. So I don't know. I guess it depends on You know this off they they map it out to be the next piggyback. So listen, you get you got to spend time with these guys and I' mean they're not sitting there breaking bread and having drinks and all that stuff with them likeike off the field. Maybe you are. I don't know. don't need mayaybe they'll be at episode one of Fairways and fastballs next year but But you're around these guys, you built a trust around them you know, traveling to these, you, especially on the road, right How are they? what's the mood with the team Overall, yeah Um I think that it's kind of like We are as fans They they know that they're right now in a in a good spot for The injuries and the adversity that they've had to overcome. I think that like us, they know that their best baseball hopefully is ahead, hopefully. They know that, you know, They're the best team in the West, the favorites in the West. Nobody's really worried about where they are now. Oh You know, it was I can't remember I was talking to somebody in June and I said, Hey, you, you know, you're still in first They like Oh I don't even Look at standings, I don't even care about standings, you know, just they're really focusing on themselves, you know and And I think that they're, you know, coming off last season, the experience really helped. They know what that looks like. Um, and I think that they're know that they can get to that level of play justust get healthy, get ready to go. I think this's going to be a second half situation. They might add something at the deadline. But I think you know, when Donalin comes back Hopefully Brash in August, Chriswell. I think that Well really come together August, September and that's obviously when you want to pek and go to but but this is just I mean nothing, nothing right now for these guys, you know, which is good All right, as we as we wrap up and come full circle and we've talked golf and baseball. I can't help but every time Then I watched the fifteen. renditions reruns of Live fromrom put Siley Kaufman out on the course to hit a shot that there was in the beginning of day. So I just was when I read that, I was thinking, yeah, so this new owner really because that's the big story line, right? The new owner is going to demand a new stadium. Really? they are Well wait. listen. if I'm wrong on that one they a new owner comes in. they said, I want a new stadium that I'll lead crow. I just don't think that's going to happen. Also we we touched on it and we talked about the piggyback situation. of fact. We're not calling it piggyback. We're calling it that. we're call tag team. sorry I forgot Piggyback stag team, Mner st tag team I'm going to get a copyright violation from playing that song too much today. I'll tell you that.. Logan Gilbert announcing today that I guess nothing official from the mayors Logan Gilbert saying that he is going to they're going he's going to tack te on Saturday and then Emerson Hancock It's the stupidest thing in the world. I mean, this is gotten now comical. It's so bad. I don't know what they're doing, but they are just The guy in his last week was the pitcher of the week just went to andzero with an ERA of one point three five. He's been fantastic. and now you're going to tell him. Hey, you're going to get to sixty five pitches and now you're done. dont we don't care how you're pitching Just I mean, I could kind of live with the Miller Castillile thing. The fact they're making everybody do this again Either they're going to look like geniuses at the end of the year or they're just going to get completely butchered and fried. I don't know why you want to screw off with Logan Gilbert right now. Don't do anything to Logan Gilbert. Leave him alone. Touch up. He's on a roll. And Id said that gave a stat to John a re I'll give it again here. Since its passage, female participation in high school sports has grown over a thousand percent It's amazing we lived in a world before nineteen seventy two where we didn't have this, but I think the influx, the the growth of women's sports s andince I've been in junior high and high school to where it is now. to see so many girls playing sports in multiple sports and the way they play, the competitive DNA that they have and have had an established It's great. The growth of the sport is awesome to watch your kids to watch your kids play all sports to watch your boys play to watch your girls play is tremendous. but I just think to see because it's again, it's always been the guys or the competitive ones and the girls are going to be the docile ones and you've seen that change. and change for a good thing. So an important date In our sports history happening on june twenty third, nineteen seventy two. onn this day brought to you by Hive Social, the official Puck Sports social meetu b All right, every day we give you one final word, we call it Hey, what the Pug. Visit them at Tersuli Well, I don't know if you saw but yesterday guy that is can rub people the wrong way would be Jazz Chishm of the New York game. So he's got a tutsie pop in his mouth. No, that's a blow pop you are Washington. Remember he had the toothpick? You brought up a titssie roll or Yeah from the dog. It's a totsie bob. Yeah. I love a Totsie bob Dangerous though, to be playing with that in your mouth. So he's getting a lot of criticism from fans from media, from Aaron Boone himself saying it's not tolerated. That will never happen again. Listen, it's a bad look. It doesn't look great. You don't see players do it. I do find it funny that this is the thing. This is what breaks people. Is him having a lollipop in his mouth Okay. I mean, honestly, what Him having a lollipop in his mouth like that Or a guy that has three cans of chew in his mouth or seeds Like, tell me that honestly, just tell me the difference because I've seen this happen a lot in baseball I'm like No one Aronado, I think is the one that does it the most. He's a bag or is it machado? He's a bag of seeds in his back pocket that he constantly is putting in his mouth What's the difference What's the difference of him of a guy having seeds or chew or a lollipop? Now you're going to say, well, what's the line? There's always got to be a line. I just think in this day and age of baseball where people want more expression, more fun. You know, where people have no problem with the bat flip and pipping a home run and showing up their opponents. This is what breaks the internet H having a lollipop in his mouth I don't think it's that big of a deal. personally Do doesn't get me up in arms. I'm not a Yankees fan. but again, is it a great look? No because it looks different than seeds and bubble gum and all that I don't know Itesn't seem like it's that big of a video. Just trying again, just trying to find something to be anry angry about some type of I mean, New York radio' probably having a field day with this today ot that big of a deal to me.
