We also will talk more menterers baseball with the real, not the fake Brad Adam from Mariners T coming up a little bit later in the show. Let's start though first with what we saw yesterday in our city Yeah, listen, we live here. We can gripe about our city. that It's got issues like every major city has in the United States of America. Find me a big city, a top ten city in America that doesn't have their issues. Every city does. That's what happens When you have a big city But we also can acknowledge that when our city does something right that it looks like that they put it off and have done something without a hitch. yesterday with how FIFA and their cameras and everything how they caught our city From shots of the mountains, the waters, the stadium, just everything. It was a gorgeous day yesterday. It was perfect Absolutely perfect just goes to show that this city still Despite its issues can pull off big events I've always I've talked about this before. N the biggest soccer fan. I go out, don't go out and seek out soccer matches But I love big events and we've got one of the biggest we got the biggest event in the world That's happening in our city yesterday one of a and we were treated to a great match by the way as well and a great fan base The fact the Belgians have taken over this town, similar to what the Scots did over in Boston I hope they're they've stuck around sit there and watch and go to a Mariners's game tonight. hopefully we have, you know videos that were coming out with the Scots there at Fenway Park. We get something similar. Belgian fans going to T Mobile tonight. But it just was cool. the city looks great They did a great job of shutting, you know, things down and around the stadium, building it up the waterfront. If you haven't been down there I we went there last week to see it Beautiful. I mean, it's just gorgeous what they've done down. Go to Piner Square which has always been one of the prettiest Hearts And again, they got to clean up and do some different stuff. but one of the best parts of this town. I love it. the old brick buildings and just everything about it. so much potential swite Um It just everything looked great. It's looked fantastic from the get go and fingers crossed and everything just continues to be that way. Monday is going to just be spectacular I mean, Monday is going to be insane. I mean they had say they had what sixty six, sixty seven thousand people there on Monday. What what is What's next Monday going to be like with U. S and Australia? Australian fans, the U.S fans. You know, one thing I love about about soccer is the amount of How fans get into the games with the cheering and the songs and just the the pride in one's country and all of it It's just nothing else like it And it's the one of the biggest it so appealing I think to that sport That fans that when they pan to the crowd yesterday in Seattle And I think the Belgian national anthem went first and then they did the Egyptian national anthem and Belgian fans trying to sing along to the Egyptian national anthem it was a wonderful display of sportsmanship and just everything. It was just a wonderful display of our city. It was a wonderful display of sport in general what took place there in Seattle and hopefully that it continues to be that way. And of course, it's it's been fun so far. watching everything, watching how all the fans have come over here have embraced it. and and have most of them been welcoming and been welcomed by us. and it's just been a tremendous event so far. And in particular in our city, it was it was really cool to see our city Even though it's a big massive city in America It has grown up a lot When I was a kid, it wasn't that blue collar , many of you that have lived here your entire lives. We're always just it's that little city up there in the middle of nowhere. We've grown up a lot here in the last thirty years And it's so I still think there's that chip on your shoulder, that mentality that I had is like a ten and twelve year old. that the people don't know where Seattle is Everybody knows where Seattle is now So it's kind of odd to see are kind of city thrust into that that limelight that we're seeing that we saw there yesterday. All right. As I mentioned every single Tuesday, John Canzano joins us live. There's a lot going on. This Texas tech case. will'll get into that Big news coming out of the pack twelve yesterday that John had that we'll sneak into get his thoughts also on the World Cup John joins us every single Tuesday to talk all things college athletics and sports in general. Go check out that website and go check out his YouTube page and all podcasts. channels. Before we get into a lot, we got the Soreresby case, Texas tech, the big twelve, Teresa Gold there in the pack twelve that the news that you broke there yesterday. Just give me an opening thought or two on the World Cup so far. Well, I think you hit on that that idea of civic pride, right? Like it's when you when we were kids My grandparents would come over on Sundays. Italian family would have dinner and Sunday afternoon dinner every week and my parents would run around on that Sunday morning going everybody clean their rooms. Grandma, grandpa coming over. Yes. feeling when you're putting on a major sporting event and you're part of it in Seattle And you've got fans from other countries and people who don't know anything about your city coming over You know, you want your you want everything to go well. You want to be a good host. I think that a lot of that's going on around the country in the different venues But I could hear the pride in your voice there, Puck as you talked about Seattle doing a nice job. Boy, you really nailed it with because every city does this and that's people that are are going that hate this city because there's plenty of people out there that hate this city. And you see them all the time and there's probably people in our chat room that hate this city I'm going to move. It's the worst city in the world. and yeah, okay, fine. you can have that opinion. It's the worst city in the world Every major city has their issues Every major city is going to do a clean upp of its downtown because they want to put on their best dress for people coming in town the analogy that you just brought there is that made there is Exactly right because it applies everywhere. When guests come over, what do you do? You clean your house. When people have cleaners come over that are supposed to clean your house, you clean your house because you don't want the cleaners that think that you're a slob. Everybody cleans up because they don't want, you know to look like a slob. So the fact they've cleaned up people and they've put them elsewhere. Yeah everybody does that. You do have yourself when your family and friends come over to your house I did a story in front of one of the Super Bowls that was held in Arizona. It was in Glendale and the NFL and the city Glendale and Phoenix, they had rounded up, you know, all of the homeless people in all the encampments, cleaned it all up, put everybody in a shelter. They even threw a Super Bowl party at one of the shelters where they brought in flat screen TV's and and and then and in the Athens Olympics in two thousand four, I'm in Athens and You know, they had a real issue with stray dogs in that city. likeike when you go into that city, there there'll be dogs that are kind of just strays that are roaming around the city. Um, the Athens Olympic committee and and the c and the, you know, the city of Athens. They poisoned the dogs, puck. They killed all the dogs and got rid of them. Like everybody's like, you know, so this is Mild when you talk about cleaning up because they' not trying to laugh but they kill kill dogs. They just said they put killing the dogs. Yeah They put like You know, treats out on the streets that were lul. Yeahh. Everybody does it Yeahep. N not always pretty, but they do it. It's not it's not always pretty. Well, it's funny. And I and I think Portland and people in Oregon kind of share that it's a Pacific Northwest. It's cool I think just next Monday is is just going to be off the charts the Australians who I'm sure going to travel well and they going to have a big contingency and course the US fans. Its that's going to be cool to see it on display in this city. just goes to show this city can put on a could could put on a big event. I'm curious if this ever opens up the possibility of a Super Bowl here. I don't know if the stadium is big enough to do it And clearly the time of year is not great anyways because the weather can be. Well, you know, the supervs are rewarded the owners are rewarding the cities that will invest in venues. So if your city if the city of Seattle is going to invest in someday in a upgrade of that NFL stadium or maybe a little you know, any any kind of civic movement that puts money into the stadium gets on the radar of NFL owners and they go, Hey, let's reward that city with a Super Bowl because they use it as an incentive to you know, go and help And I'll go one further too. in two thousand eight in Beijing I go to China for the Olympics. You know, China had a problem with pollution, air pollution and They did is they told everybody nobody can drive for like two weeks in front of the Olympics. So nobody could go anywhere. They really limited the traffic congestion. and then They even shot these mercury tablets into the clouds that made it rain, puck, it made it rain. And like I was walking around Beijing and I was like what is that film that is on the , you know, on the puddles. and it was they shot chemicals into the sky to make it rain to clear the air. Like, you know, hey, guests are coming, clean up Yeah canan't we just do that to like fight droughts then? I just shoot you know, shoot things in the air and create rain th. Yeah, they made it rain. They actually made it rain to clear the air because what they didn't want, they didn't want the opening ceremony to look like, oh, look at the smog over Beijing.. You brought about quickly a new stadium and that's what owners want. That's what the NFL rewards. Have you heard anything at all? any any rumors circling at all about potential ownership here Seattle. is it winding down? Heard anything at all? Well, I think there' always the initial Oh, who's going to buy the team Who are the top five candidates and everybody kind of rings what they can out of that cycle. And now we're in this quiet phase where, you know the actual contenders are talking behind the scenes and they're vetting people. So I haven't heard anything specific, but there is a process here and it feels to me like You're in that lull that happens right before you get news. And so I, you know, I am I'm curious to see what happens here in July and August when it comes to this ownership. I have always held out hope and I will continue to hold out hope as as a Seattle Seaks fan. His name hasn't been brought up a lot other than just a little bit of hearsay, but it's been very, very, very, very quiet And I'm just crossing my fingers that Steve Balmer has got a legitimate bid to buy the team because he would just be the ideal perfect owner, great be I mean it'd be a waterfuck passing of the torch, right? Paul Allen to Steve Baalmer two guys that that work so closely together back in the day there at Microsoft. All right, let's jump over the biggest news the day that's really has engulfed all of college football here recently. Texas tech and Brendon Soresby comes out, you know, the judge in Texas gives them the injunction. He's going to play. everyveryone is freaking out. We're not going to play you. We're going to take off the schedule everybody in the big twelve doesn't want to play them. They want sanctions against them Clearly they want to stand up against Texas tech And then Texas Dech comes up with the firepower of their attorney general saying you do anything. We'll sue you So he thought we were going to go down a legal battle and then it comes out late Monday night. Ss be's out. He's going to leave Texas tech and he's going to go into the NFL supplemental draft. What happened? and can we take a step back and say this was a victory for the NCAA? It was I think it was a victory for the big twelve too because, you know, there was some talk yesterday even in the pack twelve footprint that Texas tech might, you know, could they shake loose in the bigig twelve? If this Sorisy thing goes completely sideways, you know, is Texas tech inching towards not being a big twelve member? And then what would they do? And do they become like they could walk into the playoff every year if they were a pack twelve member? likeike do they start thinking that way Texas tech made a mistake. They made a legal mistake and the attorney general made a mistake. and the Big twelve really didn't have the ability to go file a lawsuit. until some legal threats were made by Texas tech, by Soreresby's attorney and by the attorney general there in that state. And then all of a sudden, the Big twelve went, hold on Now we have the ability to file a lawsuit to defend ourselves. And so, you know, it's being like in the legal circles, it's being celebrated that the bigig twelve had better attorneys than Texas tech had in the and got better advice. But you know, there was so there was PR one hundred one. This will be studied someday in classes where they go, okay Here's a crisis management situation. You got a player who did something terrible. He broke the rules You know, if your motivation is to get him back on the field, you wouldn't do anything that Texas tech and Brandon Soresby did. You wouldn't take that tactic. And you know, I kept thinking Gosh, we've heard from the The apologist of Texas Tech We've heard from lots of media We've heard from the attorneys. We've heard from the bigig twelve and other teams that won't play Texas tech. But we never really heard from Brendan Soresby. And so I'm eager here to see in front of this supplemental draft then, you know,s there's precedent here with guys that have been drafted in this supplemental draft. But I'm eager to see if he ever sits in front of a microphone And then if he does Does he say anything that makes us all go, Oh, okay, he was a kid. It was gambling. He got sucked into it. You know, we don't want to root against him as a pro. Or do we all walk away going, Nah, this guy was a bad actor. He's going to continue to be a bad actor. And I think it is a very important appearance that he will have in front of this This deadline, I guess it's the twenty second coming up. And I think if his publicist his agent D't get him in front of a camera and get him talking and saying the right things. I I don't think anybody's going to behind this kid To me, it's been a lesson of money and greed that it continues to ruin just, know all facets of life and society. and college football is not immune to that. You know, you've got a president who's supposed to be of higher learning, academic standards looking out best for students of everyone, not just athletes who only a year ago voted against allowing any athlete to bet on college sports, to bet on anything. Now that I mean, that should be just obvious. You can't do that at any level anywhere to bet on first of all, bet on sports, bet on your own team, bet on your own sport And then not even a year later, John He comes out and he does this unbelievable hostage video with him The athletic director, I think the head coach is there. I mean, there's there's a panel sitting around a table now defending Ssby and defending the school. And I just I sat back and I said, well, it's just such a sad day I'm sure academia because it's They have become not institutions of learning anymore They've just become Fortune five hundred companies. Yeah There was I wanted to to defend Brendon Soreresby, right? We talked about this last week. I said, look I don't consider him like the nineteen nineteen black sockx. don't even look at him like Pete Rose or somebody else who might have been gambling on an event as a professional. I want to view him as a kid. I want to view him as a college kid who is in this you know mercurial world that is shifting beneath his feet and he just made a stupid judgment thing and gosh, should his life be ruined for it I wanted to slide to his side of the argument. I kept saying, lookook, you know, suspend him for eight games, suspend him for ten games. put him on a program that gives him a path back anythingthing that you can do in that way But they never really gave me anything to hold on to from that from that perspective. Like I wanted to hear Sors be talk I wanted to I wanted to like him. I wanted to empathize with him and him to say, look, I started wagering on these games Here's how it happened I got sucked into it. I realized I at some point I had a real problem. I never played in these games that I was wagering on. But here's what I was doing and just have him be kind of hat in hand and at that point, I could say, okay, it' it's a ten game suspension It's eight. We can reduce it to eight if, you know, you follow these steps. But he never really gave me that and Texas Tch went further. You're right about that video. It was just hypocrisy and apologist. and it was like it was like a spoof on Saturday night live. Yeah I've had enough of this Cody Campbell. I just really have. just he I just Cody Campbell, I know Cody Campbell And I don't know him person, but I know who he is because Cody Campbell is no different Th this over Zealous has a lot of money Pick your club sports down who thinks his status and his money earns his kid playing time and earns him a right to have a say on the team And you know what? I guess probably if he's going to give the amount of money he's given a Texas tech, He probably does. But I think there's a way to do it and he's doing it in just this most obnoxious way. You know, sending tweets out goingo after the commissioner of the bigig twelve You know, it's just he's obnoxious Yeah He really is. I think you can be a fan and in this day and age of college athletics and give money, but don't be this guy And this guy has got all this money in the world and he wants to buy his way into the party and and the blue bloods of college football they don't want him in the party. And they don't want to school in the party. Texas teech is not well regarded in its conference. You can tell and you could tell from the reaction everybody it was it was like, here they go again and And you're right on Cody Campbell. It's something I've been thinking about because you know, who do we have here in the Pacific Northwest? We've got Phil Knight, right What if Phil Knight walked around like he owned the place? Like, you know, and Pil Knight was tweeting and being heavy handed. Filnight doesn't do that because when you've got real clout You don't have to take the sledgehammer out or gettingting your shoe on the table and start you, you know start trying to, you know, manipulate things publicly. You just walk into the room understated. And what do we say when we see Phil Knight in his acid washed jeans wearing his sneakers and his sunglasses and his hat People say to me, that's Phil Kight. you know, like he's not traveling with an entourage And so I do have some respect for a guy like Uncle Phil who is, yeah, he obviously has clout. He obviously has his fingerprints on things that happened at the University of Oregon that have helped them win. But he's not out here trying to like overtly change the conversation in the room and be the loudest voice in the room. And there's something about that, I think, that needs to be noted today I think I think it's a great point because how many millions does he give every year I don't know who that guy is. I don't know if I don't think Washington just bring it back here to Seattle has a whale like that. Do they have a handful of them? You don't hear about them. You know, in all these different schools, but you hear about this guy. this guy's just he's all over the news and, you know, giveiving press releases and statements. I just You know he's meeting with the administration about a. I don't need him meeting with the administration to try and solve college football. But you know, you're hitt on something that You know, years ago, I had a conversation with Bob De Carlas, who was the athletic director at Oregon State And he was saying he had to make a hundred phone calls to raise the money that Oregon can raise with one phone call. All right And we were talking about whether that was necessarily healthy to have a donor who had that much influence, that much money, that much power. Yes, it made your job easier as an AD, but You've also got somebody in the room who's got to have a voice and want to return on their investment and want to be consulted on decisions. And so In this era With NIL in the portal And revenue share You have had these characters like Cody Campbell pop up or the guy from Papa John's years ago pop up who have or the Miami booster Ruiz who pops up Why? Because their money suddenly is buying them access to that room in a way that it never did before. It's a far healthier model and you might argue that The University of Washington has that model You know, they've got wealthy donors, but you don't have someone in the room going, well, I need to be consulted when Washington goes to make a decision Did Well, the one thing about Orggan that I was thinking about Pil Knight, did they does he still ask the first question No He doesn't haven't seen in a news conference in a while. In fact, he did it for a bit, right? whereere you ask No he did a He did a few times. did a few times. He always came into the news conference And He would sit in there, but you have to understand too You know, his father was a newspaper man His dad was the publisher of the Oregon Journal and was a newspaper guy. And soil Phil understands what's going on in that news conference in a way that maybe other people don't He's mostly been understated. and I think the times where he is Ased a question. it's because Um there have been a couple of times where a coach will call on them and say, Phil, you get the first question today, you know And and I but I don't think he needs that And you know, he's eighty eight years old I last saw him at the Oregon Indiana regular season game last year. I did not see him in the CFP. I did not see him on the road. I did not see him traveling I have seen him less frequently And when I saw him the last time You know, he was on a golf cart And they brought him to the press box and they kind of were like, hold the elevators, Phils here And then he got out and he had a cane and he had his grandson with him and I got onto the elevator with him and You know, I looked at him and I thought, you know, he knows how many games does he have left? rightight? He's eighty eight He looked over at me and remember, Oregona Bit Penn State earlier that season And I had picked Penn State in that game And Phil looked over at me as the elevator was going up and he said, I'm still waiting for that retraction And so it's just I like his humor. I like who he is I think if any of us had twenty billion dollars, we would all be very difficult to deal with. And I think in that world, you kind of have to acknowledge that He He works with a scalpel not a sledgehammer. Why can't Oregon state speaking whales get the Nvidia nerd to get ponyum Jensen Hang. Yeah, he and his wife, both Oregon state grads They fell in love there, they met there, they met in the dorms. NvIia has put fifty million dollars into an AI center that is this fantastic technology engineering building that is gone that is been like being completed right now They I asked Jie Murphy, the president of Oregon State. I said, C you make him fall in love with football? And she says, that's the mission. Like, you know, you, so you have to take a guy who maybe isn't into football and help him find a lane. And I've always thought like could Oregon State really lean into AI When it comes to recruiting, when it comes to play calling, could they be the first school that says, hey, I'm an AI play callaller Could we Be they're going to have this computer on campus. It is going to be the fastest largest AI computer on any university in the country. And you know, Nvidia is putting it in. They are pouring resources into it Um, you know, the University president Oregon State, you know, her background is in engineering And she's done remarkable things in sort of in that space. And But she's balancing too the idea that You know, what's good for the football program is also good for the university. and so she is trying to get him out and get him to games and I do think he will become more involved, but you got to be really delicate with those conversations if it's not a natural fit. And so I think I think that's something they're trying to do, you know, every day It's I was just trying to look I think one hundred million, if he just gave a hundred million, which is You know out of his, I think his net worth is a little over two hundred billion dollars zero point zero five percent. I think he get I think he eventually gets there., you know, I do. I think he will get there just had we hand them. here's one hundred million dollars do with it NVvidia field. sorry research stadium. You're out. It's now the Nvidia AI Field Well, I don't know the I don't know if that would move the needle for him is because he's he doesn't need the marketing and exposure. What he needs is a passion project. And so what I would say to him, hey, I go, hey, look, anytime we're going to make a hire We're not going to hire a search firm. We're going to use your super compomputer. We're going to use that super compomputer to game plan. We're going to use it to to analyze our recruiting and our revenue sharing. And you know, were we're going to become the coolest Dekiest football program in the country. L I think you could go all in on that I think it's yeah, yeah. you could have the Yeah use their software their software to end up You know, Yeahah, callalling plays and all that. All right. Let's let's move on. T Thesa Gould. She gets the extension it matches the Grand of Rights deal. How important is this? So what what more information can you shed in on the the news that came out yesterday? Well, I talked with Elizabeth Cantwell, the president at Washington State a while ago about this. and she assured me, she said, Hey, look, Thes is getting an extension. It's just a formality Same went with Utah stateates president, told me the same thing, Texas states president told me the same thing. Oregon State's president. everyverybody was echoing the same sentiment. Boise state. everybody said, Theeresa hass done a terrific job. If you look at what she did after getting appointed, right She inherited the confference of Oregon State and Washington State She was there for the lawsuits that won the two hundred fifty five million dollars settlement She you know, put together the football schedules, She fought with the Mountain West conference, eventually litigated against the Mountain West and settled as we know now U She went after, you know, the the CFP to get a bigger distribution for Oregon State and Washington state She has fought a good fight and done it mostly in the commissioner space with a pretty low ego And so I just think it was a matter of The conference had media rights, it had expansion, it had all these affiliate sports. It had a lot of business to take care of before it got to this extension. I think it's interesting that they're announcing it here what just a couple of weeks in front of the relaunch of the conference. Yeah, but they lined it up as a five year deal, puck. It's five years I thought she would get two or three, you know, they gave her five and that it matches the grraant of rights. It matches the media deal. They're basically saying We're good with her leadership through whatever's going to happen in twenty thirty one And so you know just a lot of buy in. And Kelly Dampfis, the president of Texas State yesterday, I was texting with him You know, he said to me that he goes, look, look at where we are a year from a year ago Look at he saidays it was like a miracle that this conference exists in the form that it exists. I don't think people truly grasp that. The SEC and the Big ten one of the pack will just go away and die Everybody else was like, just accept your relegation. justust go away They didn't. And so, you know, if they get a team in the playoff this year, Puck. I think it it should be celebrated as this, you know, it's a it's a comeback story And and you know, forget who cares if they win again Get to the playoff. It's a comeback story. Okay rememind me of that of that scenario in the playoffs there is there is talkk of it expanding. I'm going to get to that a second with this new conference. give me the scenarios once again. Someone asked me this weekend and I'll be honest with you. so much changes in college sports and I'm like, well It's not an automatic bid, but they they can get in if they're in the, you know, the top whatever it is to fifteen or twelve. What is the scenario now if it would remain U twelve What does it look like for this new conference? The simplest way is that one of the group of six schools, the highest rated group of six school is going to get in not it's not necessarily the conference champion from the G six. and that's where people kind of go, Oh, it's not guaranteed if you get in. but In any model that you look at, the conference champion from the PC twelve or the confference champion from the American or the conference champion from the Sunbelt or the Mountain West, one of these schools is going to be the highest rated team and presumably would be in the top fifteen, sixteen and make it. So I'm not getting too caught up right now in sort of the nuances of it until we get to like week nine and North Texas is sitting at twelve and we're going, o, if they don't win, what happens? But, you know, the top rated group group of six teams going to get in and there's going to be somebody that is ranked inside of those those top fifteen spots sixteen spots Well its can be interesting to see of just what this whole new campus or excuse me campus conference will look like coming up this fall. Do they have anything planned at all for this july first when it officially I becomes the brand new rebranded Pack twelve They've been really strange about that and I've really pushed them, you know, there's a couple of things that are out there that they need to resolve. One is I think they're going to announce in the next week that the the conference basketball tournaments They've got a deal with MGM. I'm told they have a deal in principle. They won't They're going to announce the venues. It's either MGM Grand Garden Arena or it's Micolob Ultra arerena over at Mandalay Bay and it's going to be a two year deal for the men's and women's basketball tournaments. Now why two years? Well, they want to get back to T Mobile and T Mobile for the next two years has the big ten playing there. So keep an eye on that. that's coming I think that could come in the next week where we're going to get an announcement on that U the conference baseball tournament is going to be held at Oregon State. the, you know, Rick Hart, the a deputy commissioner of the Pack twelve was doing so he's doing sort of his tour, his ambassador tour around the P twelve. He was at Fresno State yesterday. He let that slip in the news conference that they'll be holding the baseball tournament at Oregon State. in that first year of competition. And then you know, media day, right? Here's another thing. They're not going to do a traditional football media day where they bring everybody to Vegas and they spend five hundred thousand dollars renting out a stadium or a ballroom and they spend a bunch of money. They're going to do something different. They won't say what that is. I think the individual schools will do things locally The thinking was Why just do what everyone else does We're going to get lost in sort of the shuffle anyway of the Power five. So why not try to save that money and do something bigger and different? So what is bigger and different? I don't know. is it It can't just be as simple as, yeah, we're going to hold a Zoom call or whatnot. But I look at the flex schedule. I look at the way they rolled out the logo. they kind of snuck it out during the spring game. They're trying to do some things different. and I'm giving them a wide berth in that way. So I'm just looking july first is a Wednesday. Okay I mean, they they whatever their partners are with TV at this point, you know, they've talked about having a reband a rebranded streaming thing is there Yeah. They've got to do something. There's got to be something a coming out party eight something that there can be twenty four hours, they own all the properties of the Pack twelve, right Yes. So all of it everythingthing that has USC, UCLA. Yeah, they need to have a twenty four hour day where they celebrate the history of the conference replay a bunch of all the old games. Yes, it doesn't all these teams it involves you know, schools that are elsewhere But throw in a great Bise state game and a fresno game and and mix it all in. I mean, have all of the of the past, you know, greats from these schools do interviews. I hope they have something planned. I hope it's just not hey, July first comes and they're like Hey, we're back, email Yeah, that would be disappointing The other thing too is when I asked them about July one or they ask them about that fourth piece of their media deal, which is that streaming or app or whatever whatever they're going to do with that. They tend to think about it in terms of competition So you know, I said, hey, aren't you going to promote this streaming app or this platform that you're created that Pack twelve Enterprises is going to produce all these games? And they say, well, we don't have games starting until August And so They they're one hundred percent going to go to this This stream I think it's going to be a Pack twelve app. I think you're going to be able to stream it online It's going to be free to everybody. It's going to have all the Olympic content. It's going to have the extras. But you why not watch that on July one and be like, Hey, here's how you sign up, go to the website, go here. And by the way, for the next twenty four hours, guess what's streaming there. You're right. All that old content. Here's OJ Simpson Here's Jackie Robinson. Here's Bill Walton. and by the way, we're bridging into this new era. I like your idea. I hope they're watching your show. Well, yeah well you know, they're one of four. All right. How many different injuries is Josh Nayler dealing with more than the shoes that he has Callen JP appe here to hly b. That's we lot to. Yeah, we have lots to cover. lotots of the cover here We have extended time today or is this just are we going to be quick? We've got We've got an extended time but now l I know I'm distracted because there's a fly that is in my in my room now that is flying around. You may see it Limback Lumber stududio sign. I don't know where it's at. I can't see it. Hey, are you like me When there's a fly, not really a fly, but definitely spiders in the house. The girls make you go. deeal with a spider Yeah don' room in their bathroom. I'm like The two females in my house are one of the strongest two females I've ever met mentally and physically yet a spider comes and my God. It is like we are under attack. It's World War three. And if I don't, then they're all upset because like dad, he's loose in the room He l He's gonna get it. He's gonna like crawl in my mouth when I sleep Well, that's why always always my reminder because I have both of my the women are mouth breathers spiders youve probably taken in every single night E them, don't even know you're a spider. you're gonna to turn into a spid. Exactly. What was the Jeff Goldblue movie? the f turns into the fly. Fly Spider Fies similar turned into a fly. That is one of the stigmasgust That was backack then because that was like in the eighties, right? moovies ever. Yeah. that pretty good lot of effects back then. Yeah wereerewolf in London. Remember that one? That was a pretty good one too. wereerewolf in London great. It was pretty darn good effect. I liked it. I knew it wasn't quite real. So you know, it's a matter scared fine. Now it's it's too real soon. I agree. Don't watch them You know, there we go we just sidet traacked This's fine You know what's, Brad. You know who's, you know,' real Colt Emerson is real. He might How about the start to his professional career eight seventy five OPS He's got a want for gooldsmith out there in the crew. He's got a one hundred forty five OPS plus. He likes that because we need more. We need more than just the regular OPS. He's slug in five and sixty six Here's the stat that I looked up at this morning that I love. It just gives an appreciation for him. This team has been lacking for a long time. guysuys that can just hit it in the gap doubles. Yes He's already seventh on the team and doubles. He's got five doubles. in seventy six at mats. Let me put that in in perspective with the team Coolio has got fourteen. He's done that in two hundred and ninety four at bats. Randy leadaves the team with eighteen with two hundred sixty one Can zone is that a fabulous year. We'll get him twelve doubles in one hundred and sixty one ABs. Cole Young The guy that Julio doesn't want his sister to date And I have a teenager in my house who can I get a young jersey? Yeah No one. No one anyone a Cole Young near, anyone two hundred and sixty five at bats, ten doubles and Josh Naylor eightight doubles in two hundred and sixty nine I at bats. He is and six home runs Don't forget the six home runs. It's unbelievable. You know, we're talking him on a clouse. inccredible start. And the guys are asking about the power. likeike are you surprised at the power you've shown so early in the career and he's talking and when you hear him talk, It's like he's thirty You have to remind yourself how young he is. Pucky's like, Well, you know, as you play, you get experienced, you get older, you know, things start to happen. And I stopped him. and I said, Well, hold on As you get old you're twenty. What do you mean as you get older?es just like Yeah Yeahah, I don't know. It's just because he's played so much high level ball, you know, ever since he was what like twelve probably on the national team that went overseas to Korea where he played a national team at twelve years old, you know? He's probably been doing an interview. really twelve years old was playing on a national team that went to Korea. Yeah. I believe it was Korea. It was somewhere in Asia Yeah. so it's like this guy's been on the radar, you know It's just s Yeah, it's just the maturity is is crazy. And for him to come in and play short stop and play it well And to hit like he's doing, it's just I mean, it it's it's really impressive. I mean yes, he is going to struggle. L will, you know, figure out something maybe it happens, but yeah for For the start and for the power, it's just been You know, outside of Junior and A Ron. He's, you know, the best twenty year old I think they've ever had Hyer Yeah know, so It's it's very important. You know what? I have never thought of that, but Yeah You're correct Yeah. I mean, Junior is the best, the best twenty year old prospect that they have well, I mean,, would you mention Julio Griffy in the run. Yeah. Well whoi have two, That's a good point It's it's exciting. And, you know It'll be interesting to see, you know, how Decisions are made how the infield shakes out. We believe JP Crawford's coming back On Tuesday Yeah taken A lot of ground balls at third base on the road trip So we'll see kind of what happens there, what they want to do with that situation Um could be very interesting This. what do you think Al should be back? So So as we sit here and talk Tuesday morning, nothing is officially has come out. We Cal has told the Seattle Times Adam Jewe that hey, I'll be back on Tuesday where they open up the series against Baltimart. We JP said the same. And J and JP said the same and they made the move with wisdom. they haven't made a yet a move right to get Cal back And you're right. And then and then JP has been taking a lot more reps their third base. Listen this this was this was a kind of a weird story like because this happened like three weeks ago, right Oh at least, right? When you went at least maybe even a month ago. And then it just kind of like Nothing happened like went on the IL. So it was like o. Well no, but he was he played for a while before he went on the IL after he said I'll play third base and then they never did it Well, it's it's something that they You know, and Jerry taled about it when he came on our show. that they want to be sure that he is ready. You can't could but you just don't want to say all right, the next day you're playing third That's why it was good for him on this road trip getet a lot of ground balls at third and get a lot of reps at third. So I think once They feel comfortable. he feels comfortable You know, this move is is more imminent I'm sorry that I'mistracted. All I' at right now is the twenty seventeen twelve U US National team. Oh there you go. There you go. Where'd they go? Was it you right? W it great Yeah they won the gold medal Where's I'm get my head my senior in here. comeome here head And she doesn't want to be on. There she is Hi. Hello How are you? Congratulations. He went to Wazu so he thinks Yeah ye. G cgs. So what was your what was your life advice Puck for graduating high school down, let her rip headad down, let it rip And this is my junior, so I like that. So you remember that for next year? Well, Puck will repeat it next year. Yeah, perfect Thanks. All right. good luck on your final. goodood luck doing nothing. seniors go to, you know, it's a breakfast today Puck. That's their day today. They don't do breakfast. They don't do any love today Okay, no one whyy did they even have school on the last week? Be bye I have no idea just to get the days in It doesnt make my son on Tuesday was like ridiculous. Can I not go today? I just want to go play golf. I'm like, not a bad idea. And while, mom is out of town on a business t. She' like why don' just canan we keep it between ourselves? Yeah I't know I'm like, I can't go with you. I was like, that's fine I'll just go down take the bus down I'm like, well, you know No, you have to go. you know, we're not doing anything. We're watching movies. Let's if we're just watching movies, can we just stop it and get out early The fact is we're still in like this Yeah and rest of June that shouldn't be in school anymore. I agree. Next Monday is the official last day. They want kids to show up for like a half day on Monday. Oh you guys you have to go this whole week at least in Seattle around on Wednesday. Well Sattle gets at least something right over Bellevue There you go. And tomorrow's grad day, where you dub the graduation she walks for tomorrow. So yeah, very excited Very excited. What are we talking about? All the infield I I would not be shocked. think he starts at third b tonight. I don't know about tonight, but I would not be shocked if he plays there this h stand just because of what he's been doing, what he's willing to do, what Colt has been doing Well, he's a better shob CQuite num right now for. He's he's He's better. probablyroably. Then it's an interesting lineup, right? You got Co at nine where do you put JP. Cole Youngs and a nice job leading off. I would leave Cole young I off right going to move Cole Young. He's got a he's bat in three hundred sixty and he's slugging out of his mind right now. as damn your It's like six hundred sixty Yeah Yeah I'm going to leave Cole young up there. I think he's earned the right to do it. He's been one of your most productive hitters of the season. I think he's comfortable up there. I like getting him more ABs anyway. He's got sneaky power. He does sneaky power. He's got power. That's a nice pop. Y. And I just think that yeah, I think leave him up there and I think you now have someone down and I would probably move Emerson. I'd probably put JP Ninth They move Cle to eight. Yeah. I like having JP be the guy at the He's he's comfortable in that role. You get down there. He's going to give you a great at bat. He's going to turn the lineup over for you right mayaybe they won't do it because it's too much of a change, but I hope they don't the bandit off and go and see what. We'll see. And you know, Cal comes back as he says he is. I like when the players say they are Do they really Are they going to or they just want to? We'll see, but He'll be I'm sure he'll be in there. And he hits You put him second right away, probably, just move everybody down. probably conversation with the team just or with him and just ask them. like what are you where do you where are you comfortable? You want to go right back to where you normally were. I I've always long maintained I'd like to see him be the clean upp hitter. But again I'm going to die on that hill. I'm old And I watch baseball through the lens of someone who who grew up and was born in nineteen seventy five. So Whatever. I'm with you I get it. I understand what they want to do with it and the whole process behind it getting the more ABs. He is your best when he's on, he's your best slugging hitter on your team. Y. And I want my best slugging hitter on the team hitting cleanup. Well, to your point, how about the nationals and James Wood who is an unbelievable player This guy is unbelievable. God created a baseball player that he's like There you go. And he's hitting leadoff. So all of his home runs are solo shots. Yeah I just I get it. I don't get it. You know, it's Mor Bic gets on. I get that, but totally the end. Oh my gosh. Holy cow. How how they not locked him up I think he got away the and he was he was that deal right? That was the Pod' deal. that was Sooto. How about that that gave him everything back, right? CJ. Abrams. He's going another all star short stop and Wood and Mackenzie Gore That' a really good left handed pitcher who they flip. to Texas and got some prospects but yeah, how about that deal And how does a guy in San Diego have his job Right W think like that He's traded away everybody. It's not like they've been shopp liver. They've been running the teams at at the end there. They just have to battle up against the really that doodgers every year. But their farm system was so good for years and he traded all of them away. Yeah, I did it, but you got to takeake a shot Yeah. You got to take a shot I mean, and they think that's what this organization hass been a little guilty of is not taking shots sometimes when the when the door has been ajar, but Hey, I think I you know, I talked about this all the time. and I think gosh did Somebody said it someomebody with a mariner said, I can't remember who said the same thing we talk about like, hey, Cal's coming back Donan's coming back. J they're adding two m rrounds at the break I laughed out loud when I saw And what they were saying was a straight face Yes, Ohh yes Yeah, and I'm just like mhm But it will be interesting, right at the deadline. I think Brass should be out until then. Donovan is somewhere in Arizona doing some something We know if he's this with all being on. Is he alive? Yes. he's in Arizona rehabbing. We're not sure exactly what activities he's doing, but he is They're being real similar with Brendan Donovan. Yeah. Well, it's it's one of these things where, you know, you have Double sports Hnia surgery And you just don't know how You're going to respond to that And so we needs more time and they're trying to figure out what exactly he needs and how long, we don't know Because as a sports fan sometimes and I'm guilty of it and I know everyone knows this. I can get glass half empty. Especially on injuries. you Yeah, really on injuries I have prepared, I'm just telling you. what do you think taking one for the team here because I I'm not going to be disappointed when I get the press release. that Donovan and Brash are not coming back because hold on, I've already And maybe others should do this too prepared myself for that tweet or that email to come out that they're not coming back this year So I'm just telling If they do, I'm going to celebrate more than anybody else in this town because I'm already I've meant I've stared at the ceiling, Brad Adam. prepared myself for the news that neither of them are coming back this year. You think Brash's lat injury is more serious than they're letting on Yeah. I think yes And the fact that it's taken Carlos Vargas this long to come back from essentially the same thing Yeah Yeah, I don't feel good about it. I don't feel good about either of them. I just don't at all but they it's, you know, we saw on the road trip, you know, and people get so focused on the six man rotation that they forget and I'm guilty of it as well, forget about what that does to the bullpen. being down an arm in the bullpen. It's really taking its toll. And so now you start to see guys can't get through seven innings guys. R. Like if you're going to do that You have to really through consistently. I know So you's been hard cover two innings. These guys are going five and six like it's still in the then the five man And then it gets difficult because then you can burn up arms and then you've got nobody to pitch certain knights. veryery difficult to do down a man. So they again, they're going to reassess. They're going to figure things out right now Thursday is a TBA or TBD, However you want to say that for the Mariners and not quite sure who's starting. So we'll side. I'm in the minority on it because I understand what it has done to the Bllen. I am a fan of this six man rotation. I think that there's going to be benefits to it once to see. We get to the playoffs. I agree. And I think we're going to look back and go. Oh, they're healthy and they're fine Right. I think there's been more benefits than negatives to it. Again, I'm minority on it T me, the six man rotation hasn't been the issue. The issue is these guys not getting I guess it's a byproduct of it, but these guys getting in late in the games. But the problem with that that was an issue when they were five man They weren't getting deep into games and they're piecing it together with the bullpen. R. they But you know who is getting date Bryce Miller he should have gone deeper eight innings. That's he's ninety one pitches. I mean C Let him go. You know we not see a complete game please. Is it okay to have a complete game? I know. I' to throw thirteen, fourteen more pitches Possibly But yeah, that was a good outing. and in that same series We saw them push Logan through six at one hundred and five pitches, Kirby through at one hundred and four. So They're starting to kind of You know, let them get a little longer leash on that and not just always take them out around ninety, ninety five or so. So I think they realize how how important that inning is likeike if you get that sixth inning that's big. Th those three outs are really big for six. you got to get. Yeah, but it's I love how six innings now is the gold standard in N willB Hey, it's a quality start Six Snings, three runs or less. shouldhn't be It it just should should not be a stack. It's a good start find That's not a quality start quality start get through seven get seven in existence should be stand. I'm amazed when I see these pitchers like ninety one, eight, you know, one hundred four like that's a lot. I'll watch a I'll watch a youth baseball tournament this past weekend. kids are pitching eighty five. Im like I remember Randy back in the day. No that's good. I was in Baltimore and it's just a random How about this? they've they've redone their press box and My D downy says, only like three tables. So everybody kind of shares when they eat, which is not very good food either. but that's who cares. So I'm sitting down And this guy's up there getting his food and he's sitt down right right in front of me. He's like, Hey, how you doing? I'm Jim Palmer. I'm like, Hey, I'm Brad. How you doing Jim? And so we're talking. and my mom really loved my mom Jim. Was it the jockeies? jockey underwear? Jim's a nice enough guy. He loves to talk about himself. So of course. Oh my wouldt did. Oh my God. I guess. But he's telling me his first start, he said he threw one hundred seventy seven pitches. Oh yeah It'sike do I believe him? Maybe, you know, back then, you're right, maybe We know Ranny Johnson threw over one hundred and fifty several times So he said the pigeon coach said, we're going to, you know get you to throw less pitches next time or whatever. He went through like, I don't, seven or eight innings is what he said. But ain't quoting all his stats he's g, you know, and I'm just like just just trying to eat and that's that's Just trying to eat my cottage se justot and be left alone because they had they had G Gree Heritage night on I think it was Monday. Yeah And then Tuesday we get the Greek food meal. and I'm like, this is clearly lefto from Monday Night's Creek H of course. This is Tuesday's media meal. I'm just trying to get through the lamb and just in Jim's just Tell me how he's won different different Si youngs in like three different decades or games in three different decades. and I'm Good for you. goodood for you, buddy. Yeah, what just wonderful. Just let it Yeah You know, I mean, the gamees changed so much. pitching has changed so much. But yeah, that's a good point though. I mean, they're going to need to maybe push these guys a little bit. And to your point, I think they can because now they have an extra day rest. So So what What you what ultimately, what do you think they're going to do? I don't see a scenario where they can go they can't go back to the piggyback. There's just no way way Miller is pitching. So that's unless you change the people in the piggyback piss off two others. Yeah. Wh Who wants A A Peton Jerry and Justin everyone comeome on in guys who wants to be pissed off? putut them up like a lineup. They like who wants to be man. So let's say that's out if they don't stick with the six man. Th what then then the only o the only option that's viable is that Luise goes into the bullpin which I don't think will happen. I think they'll stick six man. The only reason I think they would try the piggyback again, it was effective and it did help the bullpad So if you're saying, hey, we're really gased and we just don't have the arms right now Brashdaell. Lets Emunos you know came out with a lower back injury. you know, he has not looked like himself this year. So if it only helps him in one start to do it Yeah, but I mean, it gives them an entire gives everybody an entire day off. hopefully if it works well, right? You get an entire day they both get their teeth kicked them No So you you think maybe there an option for two different but but two different parties though I agree with you. I don't know how you could tell Bryce he's going to go back. It can't be Bryce Miller. So is it Kirby and Castillo? is it May casting Mbe they maybe they rotate the guys each get a little break, you know? It's funny to me because people would jump on the mariners and say Hey, well listen this this six man's not working because look at Bryce or look at Brian W Brian Wu has not been good on the road. year all year long. This has nothing to do with a six man rotation. No with his struggles. He was bad in Sain. Louis earlier this year. They were they were in a five man. They were not in a six man at that time. No, he's just the opposite of Logan. Logan is really good on the road and he's not pitched well at home W couple of a year ago. Right And Casto in this year, you know, his outings after and during the piggyback were much better So You know, maybe a little fresher arm, you're getting pitches, you get an extra day? you know, I don't know. All this they're going to consider obviously and try to bout was best best for the guys. Dpends on phase two and stuff, so Okay, we brought up earlier the shoes or injuries for Naylor. How many different injuries is Josh Naylor dealing with right now Well let's say it was the He's got a shin, he's got a hand and a hand back back It's just I mean, he has got everything to be something else, right? Te maybe the fall a ball of his toe too. I don't know. he's pretty banged up over there. But again, his same with Randy. Randy was banged up hurt the himy the last couple of games. I mean, they had four guys out four stars out. I mean, that was just they avoid something there with Randy Yes. boy. when he did it, you're like, that's a Hmy. That's like, you know, that's six weeks at least, right he passed a lot of strength tests that night just a little tight. So he got yesterday. got last two days yesterday's off they. I mean, I imagine he would be good to go today as well. So you know, hopefully knock on wood, they're all back today except for Donovan. So you're getting closer to the team you you know, had planned to be in spring training. Yeah down a couple of relievers, I know, but getting closer offensively. And you know, you look at the team and you could say they have not played as well as as they should or we thought they would and they would agree with that Still a game over five hundred first place, you know, they're trading water and doing well for what they have, I think. And then when people get back, I think that's when we start to see the separation in the division I hate to look back to last year and say, well, look at what they did last year and it's going to be the same thing, but the great baseball mind of The go to guy Jim Moore had pointed out to me that I didn't even realize great I use it loosely. We We love Jim. So I use it loosely. I understand. They had I just want to make sure you have to sometimes with him, you've got to double check his work because he's not always the best at it Yeah, but he's right This time a year ago they have the same record Did you know that? There you go. I knew it was close. Exactly thirty seven and thirty six on J. I'm using it on the show tonight. I'm using it. so. thirty seven and thirty six and then that's kind of where they started. That's where they pulled away a little bit. they they They get to July and their' three games over five hundred and then they kind of then they from July is really that month. they get to six games in then August they go to sevent And Julio heats up and everybody's back and they go crazy. And then and I'm not saying you can look back and go well and everything's going to repeat because not right, but I think There has been this this panic all year long. I haven't reached that panic yet. I guess maybe I'll reach that panic intember if they continue to play like this, but I just look at the run differential. They got the second best run differential in the American League R And the team that's chasing them in the American League West is it's like minus thirty in the eight. And can we talk about their recent week in Vegas. like how does home? How does that count? None of that should count. The Rockies scored what twenty three runs in a game there. I mean get used to it. That's what it's going to be like. No, it's going to be a Dome. I think it'll be much, much better instead of an outdoor playing They'll have legit hopefully have legit fences. Where are they going to have that That's a joke. Nick Kurz is now, you know, an NVP front rununner after that week. What a joke But whatever I get it whatever All right, happy last few days of school for you and then the real adventure starts to get a full household there at the Adam E States. All right on this day, june sixteenth is sad day for the Sonics in a way and really greatreat day the start for a second run for the Chicago Bowls. in nineteen ninety six, the Bowls capped off a seventy two and ten season by defeating the Sonics in game six of the NBA fininals eighty seven to seventy five. amazing. that was the score back then. It wrapped up the Blls fourth championship overall. the first of their second three people. Also happening on this day june sixteenth in the NBA nineteen seventy five. one of the biggest trades happened in the league The Milwaukee bucks trraded Cemabduual Jar to the Lakers for four players that included Players like Elmore Smith, Brian Winns, junior Bid Bridgeman, who was a good player and Dave Myers, but none of them were Kareem. And of course the Lakers in the eighties and they their dominant there. All of that happening on this day, june sixteenth which is brought to you by ive social. We conclude every single daily puck jp with one last word. We call it Hey what the puck And it's brought to you by Terssuli Construction from emergency response, also to full scale rebuilds and remodels. He'll take care of you. Also visit Turuli I was thinking about this as the the championships were wrapping up the NHL and the NBA and I probably do this every single year and I'm just going to continue to do it until the other professional sports change Why can't Other sports take a page out of what hockey does in their handshake line at the end of their games, especially when we get into the championship and just get in line and shake hands It's weird It's a simple move. It's done at every level in American sports until we get to college and the pros Yeah, I understand it. You're miserable at the end. You don't want to lose. And the last thing you want to do is Go and congratulate the team that just beat you That's what you do. You show respect for the game, you show respect for the opponent by getting in a line and shaking the opponent's hand. and say, you know what You got us this time. Maybe don't get us the next time And the NBA and everyone wants to point to the NBA it's because the NBA and the NHL happen at the same time It's not just the NBA And there's racial undertones to this too as well. and people want to need to acknowledge it. The NHL does at the same time. That's predominantly an all white sport. The NBA usually does not do it at all. and it's a predominantly black sport. So people want to draw the lines and say it's more sportsmanship. NFL doesn't do it Major League baseball doesn't do it No one does it except for the NHO But if you go back into high school, into middle school and you sports, everyone does it. It's just weird in this culture that we get to college that we don't do it in college anymore. College will do it You know, most teams come out to the middle of the field, not in a line anymore and shake hands Bring back sportsmanship Take a page out of what hockey does and line up and shake hands You know, the sppurs when they lost the other day, they retreated they quickly went off floor. I don't know. There's been reports that some of the players met some of the next players in the hallway and shook hands and there's other reports that Victor Wimbinyama didn't do anything. I don't know. I just think it's a lack of respect stay on the court Yes, they're going to celebrate. I heard this. Well everyones celebrating So did the hurricanes? not like the hurricanes won the other day and then They immediately were all hugging and then they there was They couldn't get back in their in their line to go shake hands. Vegas waited there. For them And they shook hands And I just don't know why other sports can't do that It's the it literally is one of the coolest things in professional sports, what they do And it's just it's just a sign of respect And again, they're not new. It's not it's not something new the NHL has done that happens a lot in other sports And I don't know why these other leagues and the MLB and football, the NFL and college and And in the NBA can't take a page out of what the NHL does. It's just sportsmanship It should be taught It is taught at every level, but then we just goes away once we get into the pros in most American sports That's hey, what the fuck brought you by Tasula Construction, restestoring what Matters and builduilding. what's next?
